ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 12, 2019

Even for a top-gun banker, temptation this hot is quite a gamble, in a sexy Wall Street romp from New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne.

An alpha among the wolves of Wall Street, Kennedy Dawson rose to the top of the pack by striking the right contracts at the right times. But there’s one deal that’s been giving him a run for his money—a pact to never again let his assistant, Kate, get under his skin. She may be smart, gorgeous, and sharp as a whip, but she’s definitely off-limits.

Kate Henley isn’t a banker, but she knows a thing or two about risk management—specifically, about managing her attraction to her smolderingly sexy boss. She already fell once, and Kennedy showed no sign of paying a return on her investment. So when Kennedy’s brother starts pursuing her, Kate figures she has the best of both worlds. Jack is charming, rich, very attentive, and the spitting image of his older brother.

It’s also making Kennedy think twice. But to win Kate’s heart, he’ll have to broker the deal of a lifetime…and prove he’s worth the risk.

Description:
Special Agent Gideon Reynolds has tried hard to put his past behind him. He escaped the violence of his cult upbringing when he was just thirteen, and since then routine and discipline have been his way of making sense of the world. But when a petite blonde woman crashes into his life, he begins to realize that a little bit of chaos might not be so bad.

Daisy Dawson has had more than her fair share of pain too—but she’s done being a victim. Daisy’s determined to explore every new experience she can—including getting to know the dark and serious FBI investigator she meets when she fights off a masked attacker one night.

It soon becomes clear that Daisy’s attack was just the beginning. Now the bloodied bodies of young women are showing up all over California, and, as Gideon tries to find the killer, it’s clear that Daisy is in more danger than they ever realised…

Review:

Say You’re Sorry by Karen Rose is the 1st book in her new Sacramento series. Upon discovering Karen Rose a couple of years ago, I have enjoyed reading her books, and now with Say You’re Sorry being the first in a new series, I was excited to be able to start from scratch. Say You’re Sorry is another one of her exciting, action-packed and intense romance suspense thrillers, which once again kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

We meet Daisy Dawson at the start, as she and her friend Trish are coming back from an AA meeting.  Daisy is attacked from behind, and because of her training as a teenager by her father, she was able to escape.  We remember Daisy from a previous series, as she was a sister of the heroine.  Trish calls Rafe, her neighbor and friend to help, as he is a detective.  When Rafe looks at a necklace that Daisy ripped off of the attacker, he recognizes it.

Special Agent Gideon Reynolds, our hero, gets a call from his friend Rafe.  The necklace recovered brings back horrible memories of his childhood, when he suffered the violence of a cult, as well as his escape.   Gideon managed to build a life, especially being part of Rafe’s family; but he has not been able to let go of the past, as his mother and sister were left behind.  For seventeen years, Gideon has unsuccessfully tried to find where the cult is, even getting the FBI and other organizations to help his research to no avail.  Until he meets Daisy, and sees the necklace which was a duplicate of the cult design.

In a short period, they will discover that a serial killer is killing women, and Gideon will be assigned to the case to protect Daisy.  We also get the POV of the evil villain, who is a crazed scary monster.  What makes this book so captivating is how it revolves around a vile serial killer, a background of a dangerous cult, and a sweet romance.

What follows is an intriguing, intense, suspenseful  and at times mind-boggling story that had us holding our breaths throughout.  There were a number of twists revolving around a killer continually torturing his victims or seeing the horrors of Gideon’s past and knowing how badly the members were treated; we were totally captivated by this story.

Gideon was a great hero, determined to protect Daisy, whom he was beginning to fall hard for, as well as search for information to find that cult and save others.  Daisy was a fantastic heroine, who learned to take care of herself from a PTSD father who always trained his children to be able to fight or able to shoot guns.  She also was strong enough stop drinking and join AA, which she has been sober for many years.  Daisy too fell hard for Gideon and they made a great team.  I also loved the amazing group of family and friends, who were always there for both Daisy and Gideon.

Say You’re Sorry is an intense thriller from start to finish, with non- stop action all the way.  As I have said before, Karen Rose never fails to give a fantastic well written thriller that is intense, always on the edge, with fantastic characters, evil villains and a wonderful couple you care for. If you love suspense, with a touch of romance and a thriller all the way, then look no further then Karen Rose.

Good. She was waking up. Took her long enough.

He took a drag on his cigarette and blew the smoke into her face. A coughing fit ensued and by the time she’d calmed down, her dark eyes were open and staring up at him.
She was scared. This pleased him. He smiled down at her. They were always scared and this always pleased him.
He sat back in his chair, watching as she struggled against her bonds. They always did that, too. But they never got free. He tied a very strong knot. It was one of his best talents.
He waited until she’d given up, until her gaze fixed on his face and recognition set in. “You,” she whispered. “From the diner.”
“Me,” he replied agreeably. From the tired old diner on the outskirts of Portland. Getting her home had been a pain in the ass. She took up much more space than he’d expected. She was curvier than most of the guests he brought home. It would be a nice change.
She yanked on her bonds again, a token effort only. Her lips trembled. “Where are my clothes?”
“Burned.”
“Why?”
He stood up, pulled lazily at his tie, aware that she was following his every move. “Because you won’t be needing them anymore.”
She shook her head, appropriately agitated. “Why are you doing this?”
He unbuttoned his shirt as her eyes flicked all around the room, looking for help. Looking for escape. There would be none. He grabbed her hand from where he’d tied it to the headboard and ran his thumb over her left ring finger, following the indentation that was all that remained of her wedding vows.
“Does he know you’re gone?” he asked softly.
Her gaze flew to her ring finger and she tried to pull her hand away, but, of course, she couldn’t. Slowly she nodded.
“Did he let you go?”
Another nod, but her eyes flickered away. He squeezed her hand hard enough to make her gasp. “Do not lie to me, Miriam.”
He was surprised when her eyes flared with a sudden fury. “That is not my name,” she ground out. “My name is Eileen.”
“The locket says Miriam.” He held up the heart-shaped silver charm, letting it dangle between them, watching it gleam as it caught the low light from the bedside lamp. He set it to swing, like a hypnotist’s watch. “Did you steal it?”
She swallowed hard, momentarily mesmerized by the swinging locket. Then her jaw hardened. “No.”
“Then, if it’s yours, you are Miriam.”
She closed her eyes. “No, I am not.”
It was really immaterial at this point, but her little show of temper had intrigued him. “Then who is Miriam?”
A tear ran down her cheek. “Who I used to be.”
“Ah. So your husband is looking for Miriam. Not Eileen.”
She clamped her lips shut, giving him his answer.
Good. He hadn’t been terribly worried that anyone would be tracking her down. The woman had a solitary, hunted air to her, like she always looked over her shoulder. Like she was hiding. That worked for him.
He ran his thumb over the locket, feeling the etched lines of the engraved Miriam on the back, then the symbol on the front. “An olive tree, two kneeling children, all protected by these beautiful outstretched angel wings.” She’d winced at the word “protected.” If it had been a talisman, it was a piss-poor one. It certainly hadn’t protected her. “What does it mean?”
Again her jaw tightened and she looked away. He gripped her chin and yanked her back. “Don’t ignore me,” he warned.
She clenched her eyes shut, so he covered her mouth and pinched her nose closed. “Look at me,” he growled, all fascination with her gone. He was angry again, which was how it was supposed to be. Her eyes flew open, terrified as she began to struggle to get free. He removed his hand and allowed her to breathe, smiling at her frantic gasps for air.
He gripped her chin again, much harder this time. “Say you’re sorry, Miriam.” He gave her a hard shake. “Say you’re sorry.”
Stubbornly she clamped her lips together.
His lips curved. Excellent. He’d make her say it before he was through and he’d enjoy every moment of the effort. Because they always said it, sooner or later.
Usually as they begged him to let them die.

Ryder (Delta Squad #2) by Diana Gardin-a review

Ryder (Delta Squad #2) by Diana Gardin-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo / Google Play /Apple /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 12, 2019

I’m a Navy SEAL and a member of the elite Night Eagle Security team, so you better believe I take every one of my missions seriously. But this one is different. I’m protecting Frannie – she’s beautiful, fiercely independent, and on the run from her criminal ex-husband. I know he’s dangerous, that he’ll do anything to get Frannie back. But there’s no way I’ll ever let that happen…

Trouble is, I can tell Frannie is hiding something from me. Something big. Since she barely got away from her ex alive, I understand that she’s wary, but I can’t help her if she doesn’t let me in. And no matter how badly I want a future with her, I swore I’d never allow myself to be with someone who doesn’t trust me. But when Frannie’s secret comes out, I have to decide whether her betrayal is enough to make me walk away…or if I’ll protect the woman I love no matter the cost.

•••••••

REVIEW: RYDER is the second instalment in Diana Gardin’s contemporary, adult DELTA SQUAD romantic, suspense series focusing on the elite Night Eagle Security Team make up of former military personnel and Delta Squad Navy SEALs. This is Navy SEAL Thorn ‘ White Wolf’ Ryder, and ER nurse Francesca ‘ Frannie’ Phillips story line. RYDER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading book one-Lawson-for backstory and cohesion, where Frannie’s story begins. The DELTA SQUAD series is a spin-off from the author’s RESCUE OPS series but you do not have to have read the previous series to follow. Some of the characters from the Rescue Ops series cross over for familiarity.

NOTE: Due to the subject matter, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Ryder and Frannie) RYDER follows the building relationship between Navy SEAL Thorn ‘ White Wolf’ Ryder, and ER nurse Francesca ‘ Frannie’ Phillip. Months earlier Frannie Phillips, a victim of ongoing domestic abuse, found herself on the run, in the hopes of escaping horrific abuse. Fast forward to present day wherein, Frannie, now struggling to stay one step ahead, is secreted away by the Night Eagle Security team, to an unknown location as the FBI, police and NES hunt for the man who destroyed her life. Enter Navy SEAL and NES security specialist Thorn ‘White Wolf’ Ryder, and the man with whom Frannie will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Frannie and Ryder, and the potential fall-out as betrayal, secrets and lies place Frannie and Ryder in the direct line of fire.

Thorn Ryder is a man of many secrets including a devastating loss, and a passion to help those unable to help themselves but ‘babysitting’ Frannie Phillips comes with too many complications including the desire and palpable sexual attraction that exposes the couple to potential conflict. Frannie Phillips knows pain and suffering, love and loss but meeting Thorn Ryder gives our heroine hopes for a second chance but Frannie keeps hidden a secret that if revealed could ultimately destroy any chance at a happily ever after.

The relationship between Frannie and Ryder begins as a working assignment. Ryder is contracted to protect the woman with whom he will fall in love; Frannie’s often times TSTL (too stupid to live) attitude threatens her safety on more than one occasion. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to Navy SEAL Lawson “Sleuth’ Snyder and former police detective Indigo Stone, NES boss Jacob ‘Boss Man’ Owen, and Delta Squad security team Bain ‘Bull’s Eye’ Foxx, and Ben McBride; police Sergeant Russ Walker; Frannie’s best friend Lobelia Novak, and Frannie’s soon to be ex-husband Eli Ward; Lawson’s sister Lilliana Snyder, as well as young troubled teen Nevaeh.

RYDER is a story of family, friendships, heart break and betrayal. The premise is real, raw and engaging; the romance is captivating and intense; the characters are energetic and colorful but I struggled with the heroine’s constant need to remain independent in spite of the struggle and ongoing threats against her life.

THE LOST VAMPIRE PRINCE
(Evil Rising #1)
by Melody Raven
Genre: adult, contemporary, erotic, paranormal/fantasy romance

ebook ONLY 99¢ or £0.99

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.au/ Amazon. uk /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Re-release Date January 4, 2019

Nicolas is the embodiment of royalty. Strong. Powerful. Deadly. The only thing he’s missing is his throne.

Decades ago a vampire mutiny murdered his father and forced him into hiding, but all that is about to change. A mortal woman smart enough to learn the truth about him and naive enough to trust him is the perfect pawn to sneak him back into the monarchy.

Nothing is going to stop Nicolas from getting what is rightfully his. Not lust. Not love. And not Anna. At least that’s what he thinks.

••••••••••

REVIEW: THE LOST VAMPIRE PRINCE is the first instalment (and re-release) in Melody Raven’s (Mallory Crowe) contemporary, adult EVIL RISING paranormal romance series. This is seven-hundred year old vampire Nicolas Zolkin, and twenty-eight year old, college teacher Annabelle Roberts’ story line.

NOTE: THE LOST VAMPIRE PRINCE was originally released as Finding Fire by Mallory Crowe.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Annabelle and Nicolas) THE LOST VAMPIRE PRINCE follows the enemies to lovers romance and relationship between seven-hundred year old vampire Nicolas Zolkin, and twenty-eight year old, college teacher Annabelle Roberts. Annabelle Roberts is an active member of a group of vampire hunters but it has been fifteen years since her last deadly encounter with any of their kind. Having watched a vampire kill someone she loved, Annabelle continues to search for answers when a mysterious phone call directs our heroine to Nicolas Zolkin, a seven hundred year old vampire, and the man with whom Annabelle will fall in love. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Annabelle and Nicolas, and the potential fall-out as our couple come face to face with both of their pasts.

Nicolas lost everything when his father, the King, was killed. On the run for most of his life, Nicolas had never intended to return to the home that brought back too many painful memories of a time long ago. Meeting Annabelle Roberts finds our hero on a cross-country trek pursuing a death wish for the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Nicolas and Annabelle is one of immediate attraction but Annabelle only wants information, the retrieval for which she is completely unprepared. There is something about Annabelle that draws Nicolas like a moth to a flame, a flame that will potentially lead our hero to his final breath. While our heroine is desperate to face the man that destroyed her life, there are times when she is painfully foolish and irresponsible with her own mortal life. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to several members of Annabelle’s vampire hunting group, as well as King Aleksander and his Queen, and vampires Marcus and Fredrick. Marcus’s story line is next in The Vampire Villain.

THE LOST VAMPIRE PRINCE is a story of family, vengeance, betrayal and blood. The fast paced premise is entertaining and captivating; the characters are colorful and charismatic; the romance is fated and seductive. My only complaint is the quick resolution to the story line conflict, and the abrupt end to the story.

THE VAMPIRE VILLAIN is a story of betrayal, secrets, the battle for power, and the struggle for control. Gena will discover the extent and circumstance of her immortality but an immortality that comes with a hidden truth. Marcus, long considered a traitor by his own kind, a vampire who once loved and lost, but has found love once again.

The relationship between Marcus and Gena is one of immediate attraction but there is something about Gena that isn’t quite human. Very few people can ‘see’ the aura surrounding the supernatural world, and it is Gena’s aura that attracts targets her for death by someone she knows. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Gena’s co-workers Ryan Stone, Joy, and her sister Hope; Anael and Tabbris; Gena’s human mother Jill; a large assortment of vampires including King Aleksander, Vlad, and security specialist Marie IronHeart Lacombe.

THE VAMPIRE VILLAIN is an imaginative tale of betrayal and revenge. The premise is imaginative and inviting; the romance is spirited; the characters are energetic and impassioned.

REVIEW: THE WEREWOLF AND THE SIREN is the fourth instalment in Melody Raven’s (aka Mallory Crowe) contemporary, adult EVIL RISING paranormal, fantasy romance series. This is wolf shifter Brock Holt, and siren Elsie Handeland’s story line. THE WEREWOLF AND THE SIREN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: THE WEREWOLF AND THE SIREN was originally released as RULING FIRE-the fourth book in Mallory Crowe’s BAD BOYS OF THE UNDERWORLD SERIES.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Elsie and Brock) WEREWOLF AND THE SIREN follows several paths including the building relationship between wolf shifter Brock Holt, and siren Elsie Handeland. Working as an accountant for Holt Automated, Elsie kept secret her supernatural heritage, a secret that would be the least of her worries when she discovers that her boss, and Holt Automated CEO is King of the Wolves. An attack against our couple by a group of beings known as ‘myotis’ finds Brock claiming Elsie to protect her life. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Brock and Elsie, and the potential fall-out as history begins to repeat itself when the Holt Pack’s new queen is threatened by an unknown force.

Elsie finds herself on the outside looking in when Brock claims our heroine as his mate and queen. Never claiming her heritage or acting on what should come naturally, Elsie struggles to accept that Brock isn’t forced into accepting her as his mate. Brock Holt knows it will be an uphill battle to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love, a woman who is both vulnerable but capable of holding her own.

The relationship between Elsie and Brock is one of immediate attraction. For two years Elsie has remained oblivious to Brock’s attraction, an attraction that now threatens both of their lives. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to a large and colorful ensemble cast of supernatural characters: Elsie’s mother Rebecca Entin, and her husband vampire Roman Entin, as well as Elsie’s sister Etta; Brock’s family including brother Russell, sister Kayla, nephew Jackson, niece Dani, Dani’s mother and Brock’s sister Gloria, Gloria’s estranged mate Derek, grandmother Lana and several members of the myotis coven including leader Lucian, Cade and Dean.

THE WEREWOLF AND THE SIREN is a story of family, betrayal, legends and myths. The premise is engaging, fast paced and inviting; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are charismatic, energetic and strong.
