ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 25, 2019

Former quarterback Lance Quaid just inherited the most losing team in the NFL. He’s got only a few weeks until draft day to turn things around, and after firing more than half his staff, he can’t do it alone. Thankfully, his HR manager is more than capable, if only she’d stop focusing on “due diligence” and stop looking so sexy while she’s yelling at him.

Charlotte James has made a life out of following the rules. But nothing could have prepared her for Lance Quaid––he’s a human resources nightmare. The man is brash, has no filter, and, as her new boss, is constantly relying on her to cover his ass. Which is admittedly quite nice.

When Lance begs her to join him on a trip down the coast for his brother’s wedding so they can finalize details––on a strictly business basis––she agrees…after they fill out the necessary forms, of course. Away from the office, though, sparks start flying as the team starts coming together. But both of them know anything more than the weekend would be a colossally bad idea––after all, the extra paperwork would be a nightmare.

REVIEW: THE WEDDING DEAL is the first instalment in Cindi Madsen’s contemporary, adult HEART IN THE GAME romance series. This is former NFL quarterback and team owner Lance Quaid, and HR manager Charlotte James’ story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Lance and Charlotte) THE WEDDING DEAL follows the building but forbidden relationship between the former NFL quarterback and San Antonio Mustangs’ owner Lance Quaid, and the team’s HR manager Charlotte James. Upon the recent death of his beloved grandfather Lance Quaid inherited the struggling NFL San Antonio Mustangs. Already at the end of his rope Lance fires the majority of the team executive and coaches but retains his feisty HR manager Charlotte James. Lance and Charlotte must pull together in an effort to reorganize and recruit for the upcoming season but Lance’s brother’s wedding throws a kink into their tight schedule. Needing a plus one to keep his mother off his back, Lance invites Charlotte to Nag’s Head, North Carolina where their search for a new executive and quarterback continues. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Lance and Charlotte, and the potential fall-out as Lance’s issues of trust come to a head with the reveal of team secrets and Charlotte’s past.

Charlotte James has a head for statistics; a mind for numbers and in this she is a stickler for rules and regulations, so much so that her relationship with Lance is directly affected by her need to recite and follow the rules. Lance Quaid struggles between head and heart knowing to get involved with a member of his staff could bring about another round of publicity that will affect negatively against himself and the team.

The relationship between Lance and Charlotte begins acrimoniously as Charlotte continues to speak her mind. A case of instant attraction tempered by Charlotte’s almost obsessive-like quality to quote and obey the rules, Lance battles his need for a woman whose secrets are about to be revealed. The $ex scenes are passionate but limited, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Charlotte’s friend and roommate Shannon, and Lance’s large extended family including his parents Maribelle and Chuck, brother Mitch and fiancee Stacey, and her bridesmaids Grace and Bridget; sister Taylor and husband Scott, nephews Aaron and Austin, as well as an assortment of prospective team members and executive.

The world building focuses on the game of football- behind the scenes as our leading couple struggle to rebuild a team that has fallen below expectations. There is plenty of rules and regulations, legalese and statistics as Charlotte is not above laying down the law and offering her opinion.

THE WEDDING DEAL is a story of family, friendship, betrayal and trust. The premise is engaging; the romance is flirty and fun; the characters are sexy and sassy but I did have an issue with the frenetic change in third person perspectives so much so that I had to re-read several passages in order to clarify which point of view was presented.

••••••••••

REVIEW: HARD LOVING COWBOY is the third instalment in AJ Pine’s contemporary, adult CROSSROADS RANCH romance series. This is twenty-five year olds, rancher and wood worker Walker Everett, and sommelier Violet Chastain’s story line. HARD LOVING COWBOY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed when necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Violet and Walker) HARD LOVING COWBOY follows the building relationship between twenty-five year olds, rancher and wood worker Walker Everett, and sommelier Violet Chastain. Violet is the new sommelier at Crossroads Ranch new Crossroads Winery, a position that brings her face to face with brooding and secretive Walker Everett, a man struggling with demons from his past. But a case of mistaken belief forces our couple into a fake relationship, a relationship that will turn into something more. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Violet and Walker, and the fall-out as Walker’s past continues to haunt and control his present.

Violet Chastain is on a mission to make enough money to help her mother. With a potential end date to her time at Crossroads Winery getting involved with Walker Everett is all kinds of wrongs. Walker Everett doesn’t do relationships, in fact he struggles with the family he loves and adores but Everett’s history is dark and damaging, and in this, our hero continues to battle memories of the past.

The relationship between Walker and Violet begins as employee and employer but both Walker and Violet’s time at Crossroads Ranch comes with an expiry date, a date neither one has revealed to the other. Walker tries to keep his distance from the woman with whom he will fall in love but one night of fear and anger threatens everything Walker has struggled to overcome. The $ex scenes are passionate and intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

All of the previous story line couples and characters play secondary and supporting characters including Walker’s siblings Jack and Ava (Second Chance Cowboy #1), Cash and Olivia (Saved by the Cowboy 1.5), Luke and Lily (Tough Luck Cowboy #2), and Walker’s Aunt Jenna. We are introduced to Violet’s parents Gabriel and Camille Chastain.

The world building continues to focus on the Everett family dynamics; the siblings struggle to move on from the past, a past tainted by abuse, neglect, addiction and loss.

HARD LOVING COWBOY is a story of family, struggle, hope and dreams. The premise is captivating and entertaining: the characters are energetic and charismatic; the romance is seductive. HARD LOVING COWBOY is an emotional and heart breaking story of one man’s struggle to move on from the past, and one woman’s battle to prove said man is worthy of love.

There are two words that described Kai.

Remote and Deadly.

And until six months ago, he was fine with that description. But when the vampire assassin spots a curvaceous woman, a human no less, who would come to fill his thoughts, he would gladly shake his persona for a moment in time with her. Instead, he kept his distance, watching out for her and learning more about her every time their paths crossed. But he had yet to speak to her. When a turn of events thrusts her into his solitary life, he must decide whether to complete his assignment, or protect her.

Olivia Sabin had dedicated her life to her work; finding a cure for cancer. She had hidden behind the mask of a scientist who cares little about anything beyond her laboratory, and for a long while she believed it herself. But when a mysterious man came to frequent the diner she visited nightly, her awareness of him devastated her concentration, and she came to look forward to the glimpses of him, however brief.

When she stumbles upon a horrific experiment at work, she knows he’s the only one she can turn to. She’s willing to sacrifice everything in order to protect him and others of his kind from the same fate. But first, she needs to find a way to get him to hear her explanation.

***Paranormal Romance featuring HOT Vampires and Shifters. Contains explicit sex scenes and each book in the series ends with a HEA.***

•••••••••••••

REVIEW:

Kai is an assassin, he’s also a vampire, he works for a company of assassins. But he lives alone, he prefers his own company, but has a family of sorts within the company.
Whilst on assignment he glances at a woman, and has to take a second look, and a third one. For some reason he’s interested, and as she’s a human that’s a rare thing. He uses them for his feeding (blood), but they don’t usually warrant a glance. He begins to watch her from a distance, he makes sure she gets home safe. And then takes it one step further, he begins to sit in the restaurant that she eats in. He is totally under her spell, he needs to pluck up the courage to talk to her (a vampire that’s scared of a human female) then when an assignment comes in to check out his female (they think she’s created a weapon to destroy shifters and vampires) it’s the excuse he needs to talk to her and to discover if she’s their enemy or not.

Olivia is a scientist, she’s trying to find a cure for cancer (she lost her sister through leukaemia) when searching through her computer, she comes across a file, and when she opens it, she’s shocked at what she finds …… her research is being used as a weapon to kill !!!!
She needs to delete all her work from the system and then she needs to tell someone. And she knows exactly who to tell …. she had noticed someone following her and then in the restaurant where she eats. He looks a capable type, a man who knows people to help, so she makes the decision to talk to him the next time she sees him…..

The book continues in a fast pace, full of action. Full of misunderstandings, wires are crossed and opportunities missed.
Olivia is introduced to a group of assassins that soon turn into family, and Kai, well she’s like more, Will she get it ??? You’ll have to read the book to find out ?

A new series is always a gamble….
But this gamble paid off, and I can’t wait to read more. There are so many characters and all need a story ?

Reaper
Dark Assassins Book Two

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon. uk / Amazon.au /

Add to Goodreads

A wolf-shifter and his powerful human.

Reaper had expected it to be an easy assignment. Break into a biotech facility with minimum security and rescue a group of immortals who were subject to deadly experiments and eliminate those who might try to fight back. But the moment he walked into the glass prison and spotted a human woman being held with the immortals, his mission changed.

She became his mission.

Before Reaper had a chance to explain that he was there to help her, she blinded him and the rest of his team and slipped away. Although she had escaped him, a protectiveness that he’d never felt washed over him, and he became determined to find her.

Ara has always depended on herself, but there was something about the shifter that made her want to trust him. She recognized him as someone who was capable of protecting her as well as understanding her secrets without turning her away, but before she could allow herself to trust him, she ran.

But with no resources and running out of ideas about how to protect herself, will she be able to lower her defenses and allow the shifter to help her?

••••••••••••

REVIEW: Reaper was in the previous book (Kai …. Dark Assassins book 1) he’d seen the story evolve with Kai and Olivia (and was a little jealous) and vowed that if he ever had a mate, he’d tell her how he felt.
Reaper is a wolf shifter (bigger than your average normal wolf) and also works for the same company Kai works for. Also a bit of a loner, he interacts when he has to, but generally works alone.

Ara had been captured and used as an experiment (she was also in the previous book) her blood constantly taken, beaten and threatened in a daily basis, she became a timid and scared creature. And when Reaper and his team came into rescue the shifters and vampires being held by the people Olivia use to work for (Kai’s mate) Ara finally found the nerve to escape, but not before she came face to face with Reaper (he made her feel safe) but after being abused and beaten Ara wasn’t ready to trust someone, and ran from him.

We find out in the book that Ara is a witch (and she becomes pretty powerful) and the men that held her captive wanted her blood , and to see her abilities.

Reaper and Ara have a lot of work to do before they get their happy ending (she doesn’t trust, and he just wants to keep her)

Another great story, we see characters from the previous book, we get an update on Olivia and Kai.

Another fast paced book, full of action and angst. Full of missed opportunities to tell each other how they feel. And more on the people that are trying to the vampires and shifters.

Seth
A Dark Assassins World Novella

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon. uk / Amazon.au /

Add to Goodreads

Immortals have been a part of Seth’s world since he barged into Kai’s life at the age of twelve. And having a group of shifter and vampire assassins he considered family, he thought that he’d seen it all and that nothing would surprise him. But the one night he met Aubrey changed his world, and he’d never been so happy to be wrong.

Aubrey was used to seclusion, even before she had been turned into a vampire. She’d never dreamed of a life outside her tiny little world, but that was until she met Seth. Before she could understand her reactions, she ran from him. But she couldn’t stay away. The more she gets to know him, the stronger the connection between them solidifies.

When Seth tells Aubrey that he is her mate, will she take a chance and keep him forever?

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: A short story involving the youngest member of the Dark Assassins company and family.

Seth has known about vampires and shifters since he was 12 years old, he’d been unofficially adopted by Kai ( vampire and hero in book 1) then quickly accepted by the rest of the “Dark Company” members.

His parents aren’t exactly maternal, and leave him to his own devices.

He wants to help Olivia with her research so goes to school with the intentions of helping her.

Whilst studying at college, Seth is aware that he should make more of an effort to have human friends, he tried one date….. and that was a disaster!!!

Aubrey has been a vampire for a little while now (she was “turned” by her mothers latest “boyfriend”) after leaving her mother, Aubrey has been on her own, it’s safer for her that way, the only friends she has is Cole (a human male) and a cat called Hades.

Deciding on a college course is a big deal for Aubrey, the idea of mixing with people terrifies her.

The story moves pretty quick (Seth knows Aubrey is his mate, and wants them to be together, he also wants her to turn him into a vampire, so they can be together for a long time) Aubrey isn’t sure, and moves at a slower pace.

It’s a novella, so the story has to move along at a quicker pace.

We catch up with precious couples, we also catch up with other characters from the previous books.

Must admit, it’s not my favourite in the series so far (is it because it’s a short story ? Maybe) but I’m glad Seth got a story. And a little disappointed that we had no kidnappings or people trying to kill each other ?

Xander
Dark Assassins Book Three

Add to Goodreads

Half-human, half-shifter.

Xander has secretly yearned for a mate for most of his immortal existence, and yet after three of his friends found exactly what he’s always wanted, he’d come to believe that he’d missed his chance at happiness.

Until he heard her voice.

Frost is a wildlife biologist and tracker and she has been assigned, despite her adamant protests, to lead mercenaries into the mountains of Snowfall, Colorado for the sole purpose of killing immortal shifters.  In order to protect those who have no idea the kind of danger they are in, she agrees.  As she leads the armed men on a wild chase around the snow-covered pines, she could sense that she was running out of time.

Until she heard his voice.

Xander understands exactly who Frost is the moment he hears her thoughts.  With the help of Kane and Gunnar, they eliminate those in her group as they try to keep her safe.  But during the fight, she is hurt and all of his protective instincts flare to life.  As Xander learns more about her, he realizes that Frost might be the key to the creation of the immortals, both vampire and shifter.

But when she becomes a target from those who want to destroy the Dark Company and Xander’s family, how far will he go to save her?

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: Xander always seemed more open to the idea of a mate. But he’s convinced himself that his has died, or that he just couldn’t be as lucky as Kai (book 1) Reaper (book 2) or even young Seth (book 2.5) he just has to be content with his family….

Frost is a tracker and works for a company who takes people out into the wilderness. She’s also a wildlife biologist, she loves her job, it gets her away from people and the town. She prefers her own company or the company of animals.

Being hired to track animals for a group of mercenaries, Frost is against the idea from the start, but leads them around the forest in the hopes of losing them.

But what she bumps into is a whole lot more ….

As soon as Xander “connects” with Frost, something inside him settles. He’s found his mate, and she’s in trouble !!! Dispatching the threat around her, he also places her in harms way, and she’s shot!!!

We have a name for the society that want to end the Dark Company (that’s the name for the vampires and shifters who work under ghost their leader) it’s called Nightfall. It’s a company run by shifters only (they look down on both the humans and vampires with equal distain)

And the secret that Frost holds… well she isn’t all human that’s for sure ….. is she the key to unlocking the questions about the shifters and vampires ? Was the first shifter born or made ? And what of the vampires ?

Now, I must admit, I was expecting more, and I was a little disappointed with Xander’s book. It felt a little rushed (was it because of Seth’s novella?) and it didn’t flow as well as book one and two. We had the action, some drama, but no real angst, no real indecision as to where they each thought they were their mate. And the interaction with secondary characters felt a little stilted !!!!

Jade
Dark Assassins Book Four

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon. uk / Amazon.au /

Add to Goodreads

Jade never wanted a mate. She loved being an assassin and she had a family in her fellow assassins, their mates, and little Silas. She truly had everything she needed. But when Ghost assigned her to track the same immortals who tried to kill Xander’s family, she couldn’t refuse.

But the complication arises when Ghost requests she partner with Noah, a human and ex-special forces soldier. Jade has never worked with a human before, much less one that hated her from the moment he laid eyes on her. But she was a professional and if she could play a part in destroying the immortals who threatened her family, she could accept the human. If only she knew how to fight her attraction to him.

All Noah Hale wanted was to kill the immortals who lured his best friend and fellow ex-Navy SEAL to his death. He had no desire to be teamed with a beautiful tracker who mesmerized him the moment she turned her emerald eyes his way. But in order to stop other soldiers from pursuing the same fate, he needed to swallow his pride and work with a group of immortals he didn’t trust.

As Jade and Noah track the group of shifters through the mountains of Colorado, the danger lurking around every corner threatens everything they both hold close. Will they be able to find a way through, together?

•••••••••••••

REVIEW:  Jade is a red fox shifter, she loves her “family” of assassins, and their growing family of mates. She has sisters in the mates of Kai, Xander, Seth and Reaper. There isn’t much she wouldn’t do for her family, so when her boss Ghost asks for her help on tracking down some of the Assassins that attacked Xander and Frost (book 3) in the last book, Jade quickly agrees, but there is a proviso, she has to work with a human.

Noah isn’t too keen on shifters or vampires, his best friend enrolled them into a research program, from there he watched his best friend die a horrid death, he blames the shifter community, so it’s so keen to work with them, but he wants the culprits who killed his friend to pay, and wants that organisation closed down for good. Going to another shifter organisation seemed the only logical solution (you have to fight fire with fire, humans weren’t going to be of any use, it had to be immortals)

What he didn’t bank on was meeting a gorgeous redhead, a small package perfectly put together, did he want to know her? Hell yes, did he think she was up to the job? Hell no, but Noah was going to find out how efficient Jade was …..

Again, the author seemed to take the easy route (Jade knows Noah is her mate, and Noah is happy with it? Didn’t he just admit that he didn’t like or trust shifters?) a little dislike and indecision would have made it a little more believable.

The story moves at a relatively good pace, we have the good guys, we have the bad guys and then we have the love interest. We catch up with previous characters and couples from previous books.

We have a few fights. And we have a little soul searching from both sides.

Hunter
Dark Assassins Book Five

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon. uk / Amazon.au /

Add to Goodreads

Half-vampire and half-shifter.

The one definitive belief panther-shifter Hunter and the other immortals understood about shifters and vampires; vampire venom is deadly to shifters and vice versa. But Hunter never worried about testing the theory because he never wondered if he had a mate, even after a few of his family had found their own. As he and two others stumble upon and eliminate several rogue shifters, part of a larger group determined to kill each of the assassins, Hunter also stumbles upon the one woman destined to be his. There’s only one problem. She’s part vampire.

All alone in the world.

Despite everything, Neri made a life for herself after she escaped from a facility using her as a test subject. She has no past, no family, and no connections to the world as far as she can remember. She stays to herself and finds a routine, telling herself she isn’t lonely. But everything changes when she spots Hunter and her first true memory revealed. He was there the day someone injected her with an experimental drug and changed into this cold being.

As Neri and Hunter navigate their newfound relationship, their journey becomes even more complicated when they learn Neri’s venom is deadly to shifters. But with help from the other immortals, Hunter and Neri reveal her past and realize the extent of the threat Dark Company has been dealing with for years.

But can their relationship survive with so much stacked against them?

•••••••••••

REVIEW:  Hunter is a black panther shifter, never expecting or wanting a mate. Happy with his job and life. He loves his “assassin” family and there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do to keep them safe.

Nerissa or Neri as she now likes to be called. Was held captive for experiments, her shifter half warring with the human in her. But because of her being only half a shifter, she doesn’t show the qualities her captor needs, she’s expendable, and she’s coming to the end of her usefulness!!! Her captor injects her with a lethal dose of vampire venom (it’s a death sentence for shifters, and vice versa) and leaves her to suffer in pain ……

When Hunter and Neri first meet, it’s on a battlefield, Hunter and a few of the assassins were ambushed, noticing movement out of the corner of his eye, Hunter spots a woman …..

But Neri panics as a huge male approaches her, she begins to relive her ordeal, and Hunter is dragged into her memories. She was being experimented on the same time Ara was, she was in another room, Hunter feels guilty as he felt a pull towards that room, but never investigated. They rescued the captured shifters and found Ara (eventually), but left Neri behind.

Hunter recognises Neri is his mate from the second he sees her. Neri isn’t so sure …. how can they be ?? She’s half vampire, half shifter now, they can’t be together, her venom is lethal to Hunter ….

We still have Nightfall (that’s the enemy trying to kill off the Dark Company) playing their part, but they have a new leader now, so what do they want ? And are they still trying to kill off Hunter and the assassins ?? We also have the doctors that are experimenting on shifters and vampires.

Neri now has the ability to teleport herself and anyone she holds onto. Being a hybrid is also coming in handy (she can walk in the sun, she doesn’t need blood to survive, but her body temperature is cooler than most)

This story deals with differences and how they are overcome. We catch up with all of the previous characters from the books before Hunter’s.

So if your looking for a male who realised that his life was empty before he finds his “one”, then Hunter is for you.

Hunter (A Dark Assassins Novel Book Five)
***
#1
Excerpt from Chapter One
© 2019 Valerie Ullmer

Hunter trudged through waist deep powder, grumbling about the situation he was in and cursing whatever deity who made it snow four days into September. He was used to all weather, and the cold wasn’t the issue, it was the fucking drudgery of miles and miles of hiking through the stuff as he babysat Drew that grated on his nerves.
It wasn’t as though he begrudged Jade her happiness at finding her brother after all these years. But they realized after Ghost had hired him as an assassin, the man had never grown up. He pranked all of them although each of the assassins had threatened him to knock it off or risk bodily harm. They would never kill him, but Hunter was thinking about breaking his jaw for the fact the crunch as his fist connected would satisfy him for half a second before he healed.
“You can’t begrudge me a little fun. I’ve been looking for Jade all these years and I took my responsibility to my family seriously.”
That excuse lasted for about fifteen minutes and other than Jade and her mate Noah, the others avoided Drew as much as possible.
Hunter blinked and his gaze darted toward the left when a movement caught his attention. Less than a second later, he bit back a laugh when Kane took a header in the snow, sending up a puff of white into the air as he slammed down face first on the ground.
When ginger hair, brighter than Jade’s, popped up, Hunter smiled. But as Drew stood, he wiped the snow off his shoulders several feet from where Kane lay, and Hunter cleared his throat before he sent a disappointed look toward the ginger.
Ghost assigned he and Kane to training duty, despite their protests. Ax, Thomas and Isaac, Gunnar, and Reaper and Ara had tried to work Drew through the assassin’s training regiment and all of them failed. Drew either ignored what they had to say or refused to take part in the exercises until they’d given up and threatened Ghost if they had to deal with Drew ever again.
Ghost then foisted Drew onto Kai. Hunter expected Drew to be dead by the end of the day. Kai was the most patient of the assassins and after two days of unrelenting training, he had given up on Drew and walked away without a word. Hunter hadn’t been there, but Drew still flinched whenever they mentioned Kai. Kai had a similar reaction to the man, snarling whenever he came near.
Jade and Noah couldn’t train him. Jade would never endanger her brother, even to teach him the basic of hand-to-hand combat or even tracking. They would end up catching up on all the years they missed from each other’s lives. And Noah, not wanting to do anything to hurt Jade, steered clear of Drew, especially after their tumultuous beginning.
Hunter didn’t mind the tiger shifter… for about ten minutes at a time. He knew the sooner he and Kane trained him to Ghost’s standards, the sooner he could steer clear of him.
Kane bent his arms to prepare for lifting himself up off the ground when all three assassins sensed movement toward the west. They all stopped and opened their senses for clues who was heading toward their position.
Hunter scented shifters, multiple, converging fast.
I’m guessing three. Not bothering to cover the noise. I’ve got point.
Hunter cut through the snow with Kane on his right and Drew on his left. As he caught sight of a black glove out of the corner of his eye, he glanced down and cursed. They were in their black tactical gear. Hunter had chosen it because Drew needed to get used to moving around with weapons and ammunition, as most of his assignments would be raids and possibly combat situations instead of stealth, which most of them specialized in.
They hadn’t planned on running into any trouble so close to the mountain where most of the assassins claimed land and built homes of their own. Because of this, Ghost moved his base of operation to Snowfall from Denver and claimed his own piece of land in the same area.
These shifters should have realized they trespassed in dangerous territory. But if they were from Anzû’s group, Hunter knew they didn’t have enough sense or training to avoid a fight.
Keep one alive. We need intelligence. Drew?
Drew, without taking his eyes from the target’s position beyond the pines and evergreens, nodded once.
Hunter knew the kid had skin in the game. Because of Jade and the threat to her earlier in the year, a warrior replaced his teasing personality.
Knowing Kane was always ready for a fight, Hunter turned his attention toward the tree line and observed as three shifters stumbled through before two more followed. They stopped in their tracks and their eyes widened as they took in three immortals, all decked out in black.
Hunter wondered for a second if they would split up and run, making the assassins chase them through the fucking mountains. A growl escaped his throat and the new additions seemed surprised by them and the hostility coming from him.
The shifter in front gave a war cry before all five of them charged.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 19, 2019

Vengeance and revenge are the only forces driving vampire soldier Noah Siosal since losing his brother to an enemy he’s been unable to find. He’s searched every corner of the globe, going through adversaries and piling up bodies until finally getting a lead. The last place he wants to be is in a ridiculous anger management group with people expressing feelings instead of taking action. Until one fragile human, a green-eyed sweetheart being stalked by danger, catches his eye. One touch, and he realizes vengeance can’t be anywhere near her.

Anger and self-preservation are the only motivations Abby Miller needs or wants right now. Falsely accused of attacking the man who’s terrorized her for years, she’s forced as a plea bargain to attend an anger management counseling group with people with some serious rage issues, while learning true self defense on the side. Yet a man, one more primal than any she’s ever met, draws her in a way and into a world deadlier than she’s ever imagined. He offers her protection, but she finds the fight is really for his heart, and she’s ready to battle.

REVIEW: VENGEANCE by Rebecca Zanetti is instalment 10.5 in the author’s contemporary, adult DARK PROTECTORS paranormal, romance series, and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is hybrid vampire/demon and assassin/mercenary Noah Siosal, and Abby Miller’s story line. VENGEANCE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Noah and Abby) VENGEANCE introduces a new series arc starting with hybrid vampire/demon and assassin/mercenary Noah Siosal, and Abby Miller. Abby Miller has been ordered to anger management for a crime she did not commit but Abby’s anger management class is filled with an odd assortment of strange, intriguing and otherworldly beings, one with whom Abby will fall in love. As Abby’s life continues to spiral out of control, Noah becomes guardian and protector for the woman who would become his mate. As Noah hunts for the man that killed his best friend, he struggles to keep Abby safely out of reach of her former spouse.

We are introduced to several immortals: purebred demoness Tabitha aka Tabi; vampire Raine Maxwell, Benny (a member of the Seven), Ivar the Viking; and humans Dr. Mariana Lopez, and Detective O’Connell, as well as Abby’s ex-husband Monte Lofton.

VENGEANCE has a little bit of everything: fun, humor, conflict, death, threats and love. The immortals attending anger management are quite the eclectic group of hybrids, purebreds, demons and vampires-all looking for something or someone in order to move forward with their latest assignments. The character driven premise is entertaining and spirited; the romance is fast and furious; the characters are sexy, sassy, energetic and feisty.

His hand slid around her face and tangled in her hair, tilting her head back farther.
She sighed and kissed him, warming right up. Her eyelids opened to see his intense gaze on her. She jerked, her body stilling.
Holding her gaze, he lifted lightly, his lips barely a whisper from hers. “You okay?”
She nodded, even though his hand in her hair contained her movement. “Yes. You?”
“Yes. You want more?” He held himself still, like one of those racehorses in a stall right before the gate opened.
Her nipples peaked. Fast and hard. More? There was more? She should think. Take a step back. “Yes,” she said. “More.”
He moved faster than humanly possible, ducking his head and claiming her lips. This time, there was no gentleness or coaxing. It was all fire and electricity and demand. Hard and fast, he took her mouth, kissing her in a way that took her completely out of the moment.
The rain and cold disappeared along with her fear and sadness. Only passion and fire remained. She let him guide her, opening her mouth, wanting everything he was giving. Never had she felt this. Her body went from a slow heat to a full-on inferno, her thighs trembling for more of him. For all of him.
Headlights barely caught her attention. Then a door slamming. “What the hell?” bellowed a familiar male voice.
She jumped, fear instantly swamping her. “No.”
Noah released her and turned as Monte stomped toward them, fury morphing into red blotches on a face she’d once thought handsome. “What are you doing?” he yelled, arms swinging, getting too close.
Noah partially turned and punched him right in the mouth. Monte went down, splashing through a mudpuddle, his arms windmilling.
Abby gasped, her body chilling instantly. Horror caught her. Oh God. “What have you done?”

REECE (Savage Kings MC #7) by Lane Hart & D.B. West-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / amazon.uk / Amazon.au /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 16, 2019.

Former military specialist and recluse Reece Hunt takes his job of protecting the Savage Kings MC very seriously. When one of their regular girls go missing, he won’t rest until he tracks her down and makes sure she’s safe.

While Cynthia Collins has loved every second she has spent with the Savage Kings, the problem is that none of the men have ever really cared for her. The guys are all starting to settle down and she’s not getting any younger. Whatever hope Cynthia had of becoming one of the Kings’ old ladies is quickly dwindling as she gets ready to turn thirty; that’s why she decides that it’s time to give up the club life in search of more.

After Reece shows up on Cynthia’s doorstep, her plan of leaving the MC may unknowingly become more difficult than she expected.

For reasons Reece can’t even understand, he begins sabotaging Cynthia’s plan of dating men who don’t ride Harleys or wear leather to try and lure her back to the club.

When Cynthia finds out what Reece has been up to, he’ll have to either put up or shut up. It’s been more than a decade since he let himself fall for a woman, and he’s not sure if he’s ready to go down that bumpy road again. Besides, he doesn’t have time for any distractions from monitoring the club’s security.

Reece has apparently forgotten that sometimes love has a way of knocking even the most stubborn men off their feet, whether they’re ready for it or not.

••••••••••

REVIEW:  REECE is the seventh instalment in the contemporary adult, SAVAGE KINGS MC erotic, MC romance series co-authored by Lane Hart and D.B. West. This is thirty-six year old IT specialist Reece Hunt, and thirty-year old, adult toy shop owner Cynthia Collins Smith’s story line.  REECE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Cynthia and Reece) REECE follows the building relationship between thirty-six year old Savage King’s IT specialist Reece Hunt, and thirty year old adult toy shop owner and former Club wh*re Cynthia Collins Smith.  Three years earlier Cynthia arrived at the Savage King’s MC looking for help and protection from her abusive spouse. Fast forward to present day wherein Cynthia is tired of being passed around as the Club wh*re, and is hoping to walk away from the life she had grown to love but Reece Hunt, a man who never spared her a second glance, is worried about our story line heroine, the woman with whom he will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Reece and Cynthia, and the potential fall-out as Cynthia’s past comes looking for revenge.

Reece Hunt has lusted after Cynthia Collins from the first day that they met but was unwilling to ‘use’ our heroine the same way the other men used the whores at the club. Biding his time, Reece thinks he is too late when Cynthia disappears only to discover that Cynthia no longer wants to be known as the Club house wh*re. Cynthia Collins has been hiding in plain sight for close to three years. With the help of Reece Hunt, Cynthia has a new identity, and a possible future away from her abusive husband.

The relationship between Cynthia and Reece begins as a case of unrequited love. Cynthia had no idea that Reece felt anything but contempt or dislike, having never made a move on our story line heroine. Hoping to make up for the past three years, Reece agrees to Cynthia’s terms of ten dates, ten dates wherein our couple will get to know one another. The $ex scenes are intimate erotic, and intense.

Several of the previous story line couples play secondary and supporting characters but Miles has gotten himself into a bit of trouble landing the MC in the direct line of fire with the Russian mob. Miles and Kira’s story line is next.

REECE is a story of betrayal and vengeance; passion and romance. The premise is fast paced and engaging; the romance is flirty and fun; the characters are energetic and seductive.

The relationship between Evie and Eric begins as a business arrangement. Eric had no intentions of ever using the ‘Boyfriend Experience’ but when his best friend and app developer Dylan Stone signed him up without his knowledge, Eric took a gamble and fell in love. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are colorful and familiar including Leo and Peyton, Aiden and Daisy, Dylan and Serena from the author’s Tall, Dark and Sexy series. We are introduced to Dylan’s mother Ginny Miller; Evie’s brother Garrett, his boyfriend Aaron, and their parents Lauren and Gene Bennett; Evie’s cousin Raquel and her fiancé Graham.

They joined the short line in front of the register, and Eric glanced from the billboard listing all the fancy beverages, to Evie. “What would you like?”
“I’ll just take a regular cup of coffee.”
“Come on, you can do better than that,” he teased. “You don’t strike me as being that boring.”
She raised a brow, a glimmer of amusement dancing in her eyes. “You’ve come to that conclusion in the two minutes of meeting me?”
“Am I wrong?” he challenged light-heartedly.
“No,” she admitted, a smile tugging at the corner of her very kissable mouth. “I just don’t treat myself to a fancy cup of coffee very often. Normally, I’m too rushed in the morning to indulge myself.”
They took another step forward in line. “Lucky for you, it’s my treat and I insist you indulge.”
She tipped her head, drawing his gaze to the soft tumble of hair falling over her shoulder and how the ends curled right at the upper swell of her breast. “Shouldn’t I be paying for this, considering the circumstances?”
“Absolutely not,” he replied adamantly, forcibly keeping his gaze on her face instead of her chest. “What boyfriend worth his salt would let his girl pay?”
“I haven’t hired you yet,” she reminded him cheekily.
He grinned. He wasn’t expecting Evie Bennett to be so impudent, and surprise, surprise, he was definitely enjoying their banter, and her. “True. Which means I really need to step up my game and impress you.”
And honestly, when was the last time he’d wanted to make such an effort with the opposite sex? The answer to that eluded him, because truthfully, he couldn’t remember being so fascinated and attracted to a woman beyond her physical features. Yet there was no denying that Evie’s feisty disposition drew him in and made him want to learn more about her. Which he needed to do anyways, if she was going to hire him. And make no mistake, they weren’t parting ways until he’d sealed the deal, because she was in the market for a temporary boyfriend, and like his campy bio had promised, he aimed to please.
“What can I get for the two of you?” the barista asked, pulling Eric’s thoughts, and attention, to the girl waiting for their order.
He glanced at Evie. “Don’t disappoint me,” he said humorously, referencing the boring cup of coffee she’d mentioned.
A cute, daring smile flitted across her mouth before she looked back at the barista. “I’ll take a white chocolate mocha with an extra shot of espresso and whipped cream.”
Damn. Was it crazy that he was totally turned on by the fact that she hadn’t ordered one of those ridiculous skinny, non-fat, sugar-free lattes that made a mockery of a designer coffee? This was not a girl who’d opt for a salad if she was offered a burger or pizza, and thank God for that. His attraction to her just increased ten-fold.

Nice guys always finish last, and Coby Epstein is sick and tired of being last. After his boyfriend dumps him, Coby vows to take it slow and not jump into another relationship, no matter what his ninety-five-year-old great aunt says. When Coby sees his ex has moved on, he goes on a series of disastrous first dates and swears off men, determined to be alone. His best friend disagrees and finds the “perfect man” for him online and arranges a date. The only problem? Coby has no idea what she’s done.

Since childhood, Eli Kaplan has been his father’s greatest disappointment, a fact he’s reminded of at every opportunity. For years, he’s struggled with the knowledge that dating women doesn’t work for him. A late-night confession to his brother changes everything and Eli realizes, maybe, just maybe, he can come out, find himself, and find love. Eli takes the plunge and creates a profile on a dating website, not knowing what to expect. One night he chats with an intriguing man, and despite his nervousness, they arrange to meet for coffee. No big deal. They’ll probably never see each other again.

On the day of their first date, nothing could surprise Coby and Eli more than to discover that they live in the same apartment building, on the same floor. In a city of eight million people, coincidences don’t get crazier than that. But as the two men begin to weave their lives together with cautious optimism and hope for a future, they find an even greater thread holding their families together—one born from the ashes of a final solution that couldn’t destroy their ancestors’ courage, leaving scars that remain almost a century later. Past lives torn apart can be pieced together by a future no one could have ever imagined, where love is more than fate or coincidence. It’s meant to be.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: THE COINCIDENCE by Felice Stevens is a contemporary, adult , stand alone M/M romance story line focusing on personal shopper Jacob ‘Coby’ Epstein, and court officer Eli Kaplan.

NOTE: THE COINCIDENCE contains same-sex scenarios that may not be suitable for all readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Eli and Coby) THE COINCIDENCE follows the building relationship between personal shopper Jacob ‘Coby’ Epstein, and court officer Eli Kaplan. Eli Kaplan knows something is missing in his life but has yet to come to terms with the possibility of being gay. Meeting Coby Epstein, a man whose most recent relationship crashed and burned, found Eli thinking about a future with a man whose family history had crossed over with his own. What ensues is the slow building romance and relationship between Coby and Eli, and the potential fall-out as Eli struggles to come to terms with a father who sees him as a failure and nothing more.

Eli Kaplan is close with his brother Darren, a successful lawyer, married to a wonderful woman, and the mother of his two children but Eli finds himself wanting what his brother has, someone to share his life and his love. Lonely, Eli agrees to let his sister-in-law set him up but comes to discover his future lives in the same building as does he. Coby Epstein wants nothing to do with relationships but meeting his neighbour finds our hero battling between head and heart, and the possibility of what may never be. Helping Eli come to terms not only with his sexuality but with a father who expects more than Eli is willing to give, Coby and Eli begin a slow seduction towards their own happily ever after.

The relationship between Coby and Eli is one of immediate attraction; a slow building romance wherein Eli discovers who he is, and what he wants. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Coby’s mother Jennifer, and his great-aunt Fay Rubin; his best friend Addie and Dr. Dave, as well as Eli’s brother Darren, his wife Isabel and their two children, and their parents Ezra and Mrs. Kaplan.

THE COINCIDENCE is a story of family, friendship, history and love. The premise is heart warming and seductive; the characters are relatable and real; the romance is intimate and intense. THE COINCIDENCE is a story of fate, coincidence or not, but a fate that has brought two families together, once again.

An Unwilling Earl by Sharon Cullen – a Review

An Unwilling Earl by Sharon Cullen – a Review

Description:
Jacob Ashland’s life has taken an unexpected turn. He’s now the Earl of Ashland and expected to marry. But he’s done that before and had his heart ripped from his chest. When Charlotte shows up at his door needing protection, he offers to marry her––in name-only.

Charlotte, an orphan, suspects her sinister cousin of terrorizing London. When her maid disappears, she fears for her own life and runs away. Lord Ashland offers marriage, and it’s the perfect solution. But it isn’t long before she finds herself falling for her new husband.

Unfortunately, he won’t allow himself to love anyone ever again. And she knows her dark secret could destroy everything.

Review:

An Unwilling Earl begins with Jacob Ashland having unexpectedly inherited an earldom and he’s not excited about it.  He likes his quiet life as a solicitor and doesn’t want to give that up.  When Lady Morris shows up unexpectedly at his home, she tells him that her ward, Charlotte, is missing and would like him to find her.  He tells her that that’s not what he does, but she is insistent.  Lady Morris leaves in a huff because she is not used to anyone telling her no.  As he’s walking, pondering how his life has changed, he sees a young boy in danger of being trampled by horses and leaps into action to save him.  Once he makes sure the lad is safe, he notices his disheveled appearance and gives him some coins to get a hot meal.  The boy leaves, but for some reason, Jacob can’t shake the encounter.

When Jacob reaches his friend, they discuss not only his new earldom, but also a series of grisly murders happening in town.  The two of them fancy themselves as amateur sleuths.   When the talk turns to his friend’s mother hosting a ball in Jacob’s honor, Jacob is not happy about it.  He leaves telling his friend they will discuss it later.

Charlotte makes her way back to her ‘home’ in the poor part of town shaken to her core at almost being trampled by the horses and intrigued by the man who saved her.  She hopes that he didn’t notice she was a she because she’s hiding from those who would be searching for her.  She tells her roommate about the encounter and knows it would be best to just let it go, but she can’t.  When Charlotte makes the decision to see if she can spot the handsome man again, little does she know how much her life is going to change.

An Unwilling Earl is a nicely written story.  Jacob’s backstory is sad and has held him back and left him grieving and lonely.  Once Charlotte appears at his home, he feels the need to protect her, as he’s guessed that Lady Morris is the reason Charlotte ran away.  He convinces Charlotte to let him help her, but he knows he will have his hands full.  While he and Charlotte become more comfortable with each other, she eventually tells him the real reason she ran away and it doesn’t take him long to know that she’s in a no-win situation when it comes to her family.  The two embark on a mission of sorts to see who is actually responsible for the grisly murders in town and it doesn’t take long for danger to knock on their door.

An Unwilling Earl is a story of second chances and reckoning.  If you’re a fan of the genre, you’ll enjoy the read.  This is the first I’ve ready by Sharon Cullen, but look forward to the next.  Well done, Sharon Cullen!
