ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 12, 2019

What do you do when you wake up in bed next to an Adonis god with a wedding band on your finger and no recollections of the night before?

Except for maybe one single memory where you lost a hand of cards to the sexy stranger and agreed to marry him. Seriously, how drunk was I?!

Well, whatever the case, you sure as hell do not agree to stay married to the Greek God and be his wife!

I mean what if he had a crooked dick or something. There was bound to be a catch, right?

Because why the hell would he want the plain-Jane-ME as his wife?

Ah, he did say he needed to get married and it would save him all the work of actually having to find someone, date them, propose, and go through months of wedding planning.

But like how the freaking hell is that a valid reason?!

Well, he did ask for a weekend to prove to me that we were perfect for each other. Should I agree? Especially when my body was reacting all on its own and going into instant combustion every time he touched me.

REVIEW: MARRIED BY MISTAKE is the first novella in Lindsey Hart’s contemporary, adult ALPHALICIOUS BILLIONAIRES erotic, romance series. This is thirty-five year old, billionaire software CEO Brock Williams, and receptionist June Lashinsky’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (June and Brock) MARRIED BY MISTAKE follows in the aftermath of one-night in Vegas where two strangers – thirty-five year old, billionaire software CEO Brock Williams, and receptionist June Lashinsky-find themselves married after a losing poker hand, and a promise of marriage. What ensues is a weekend together for June and Brock as Brock seduces the woman with whom he will fall in love.

Neither Brock nor June remember the night before but waking up beside a beautiful stranger, wearing matching wedding bands, meant desperate times called for desperate measures. When Brock suggests giving their relationship a chance, June is ready to run towards annulment or divorce. A little white lie forces June to run, a lie that for all intents and purposes is nothing compared to the relationships from her past.

MARRIED BY MISTAKE has a little bit of everything: fun, romance, $ex and conflict. We are introduced to June’s feisty best friends Mindy and Lacy whose frenetic energy is over the top and energetic. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the characters are colorful and dynamic; the romance is a quick build to happily ever after.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 15, 2019

When ER nurse Nora Sellers is hurt in a hospital scuffle, firefighter Zach Walker blames himself. Blaming himself is nothing new. He’s been blaming himself for years for the trauma his baby sister endured as a teenager. Though with his happy–go–lucky attitude no one would know it. He’s good at his job, he’s a good brother, and a good friend, but Zach decided long ago he wasn’t husband and father material.

Even so, when Zach learns Nora is a single mother with a house that needs his help, he can’t walk away. After a few days with Nora and her ten month old son, he knows he doesn’t want to.

But Nora’s wary. She learned at a young age that the only person she can count on is herself. Now with a baby, a job, and a fixer–upper house, the last thing Nora wants is a sexy firefighter, making her heart flutter. But Zach is more than what he seems, and the more she gets to know him the harder he is to resist.

She’s been brave all her life. Can she be brave one more time and take a chance of a lifetime with her heart?

REVIEW: WAITING FOR YOU is the fifth instalment in Claudia Connor’s contemporary, adult THE MCKINNEY BROTHERS (McKinney/Walker crossover) romance series. This is firefighter Zach Walker, and single mother/ER nurse Nora Sellers’ storyline. WAITING FOR YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion. Zach is Nick’s brother (Worth the Wait #4), and Hannah Walker (Worth the Risk #2).

Told from dual third person perspectives (Zach and Nora) WAITING FOR YOU follows the building relationship between firefighter Zach Walker, and single mother/ER nurse Nora Sellers. A freak accident in the ER found Nora Sellers struggling to look after her son, and the repairs at her new ‘fixer-upper’. Feeling guilty for the injuries incurred by our story line heroine, firefighter Zach Walker offered his services to help Nora with the big and little jobs around the house including help with her ten month old son Will. What ensues is the building relationship between Zach and Nora, and the potential fall-out as Nora’s past resurfaces bringing issues of trust back to the present.

Zach Walker doesn’t do relationships, and struggles with the what-ifs and whys. Meeting Nora Sellers gives Zach a hope for the future, a hope that will be dashed by Nora’s inability to let go of the past. Nora Sellers battles between head and heart as it pertains to letting Zach Walker into their lives. A single mother with no family of which to speak, meeting Zach and his extended McKinney/Walker family is more than Nora is able to handle.

The relationship between Zach and Nora is one of immediate attraction but Nora’s only concern is her ten month old son, a child whose only support system is our story line heroine. With only a week on the job, Nora will come face to face with her future, and the man who would steal her heart. Zach Walker knows he wants Nora Sellers but convincing Nora he is no longer the player she believes him to be, is a lot harder than expected. The $ex scenes are passionate but mostly implied, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Abby and Matt (Worth the Fall #1), Hannah and Stephen (Worth the Risk #2), Nick and Mia (Worth the Wait #4); several co-workers from the hospital ER, and Zach’s fellow firefighters, as well as in the introduction of Zach’s brother Luke.

WAITING FOR YOU focuses on family, friendship, brotherhood and love. The premise is entertaining, engaging and captivating; the characters are charismatic and spirited; the romance is seductive and flirtatious. WAITING FOR YOU is a wonderful and inviting story of romance and love.

One week.
Private cabin.
Famous physicist.
Still an unrepentant slacker.
What’s the worst that could happen?

Mona’s meticulously planned allotment of relaxation is thrown into chaos by the unscheduled appearance of her older brother’s band of friends, including the one person she’d hoped to never face again. Abram still makes her feel entirely too much, which is one of the reasons she disappeared after their one week together. But now, trapped on a mountain of snow and things unspoken, Mona will have to find a way to coexist with Abram, chaos and all.

••••••••

REVIEW: SPACE is the second instalment in Penny Reid’s contemporary, new adult LAWS OF PHYSICS romance trilogy focusing on twenty-one year old physics genius Mona Tang DaVinci, and twenty-five year old musician Abram Harris Fletcher. LAWS OF PHYSICS is the second trilogy in the author’s HYPOTHESIS series but can be read as a stand alone series without any difficulty. Abram was first introduced in the Elements of Chemistry series (a subset of the Hypothesis series).

NOTE: SPACE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book one MOTION. If you have not read MOTION, there may be some spoilers in my review.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Mona and Abram) SPACE continues to focus on the relationship between on twenty-one year old physics genius Mona Tang DaVinci, and twenty-five year old musician Abram Harris Fletcher. Two and a half years earlier Mona Tang Da Vinci pretended to be her twin sister in an effort to protect Lisa from the fall-out of a recent arrest for drugs, an arrest that pushed Mona into the orbit of Lisa’s guardian Abram Harris. With Lisa’s return, Mona knew she had to exit quickly but exiting meant leaving the man with whom she had fallen in love. Fast forward to present day wherein Abram, now a rock star going by Abram Fletcher struggles between fury and love for a woman who destroyed everything good in his life. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship and attraction between Abram and Mona, and the potential fall-out as there time together comes to a close.

SPACE is a story of betrayal and forgiveness; of secrets and conflict. The palpable sexual attraction and chemistry between our leading couple is tempered by regret and resentment, guilt and resolve. An addicting series, a wonderful tale, a lesson learned SPACE follows a brilliant but awkward young genius as she must come to terms with the potential loss of the only man she has ever loved; and of a heart broken and angry musician whose muse pushed him away as though nothing had happened.

“Hi—hello,” she said, stepping forward but not out of the way, drawing my attention.
She was still staring at me, her face still pale, but her eyes had turned searching instead of stunned.
“I—” She stopped herself, swallowing, her gaze dropping to the front of my coat, a cute little frown furrowing her eyebrows. In the next moment, she was pulling off the glove of her right hand. Abruptly, she shoved the ungloved fingers toward me, returning her eyes to mine. “I’m Mona.”
I suppressed my disbelief at her small action before it could break my outward mask of calm. I wasn’t calm. Just to be clear, I was the opposite of calm.
The fact that she was introducing herself to me now meant that she thought I was too stupid to figure out her lies over the last two-and-a-half-fucking years. She was arguably one of the smartest people in the world, after all. To her, people like me must seem like housebroken pets. So it shouldn’t have surprised me. But it did. The tension and tightness around my ribs reappeared, squeezing uncomfortably.
Dropping my attention to her bare hand, I pressed my lips into a tighter line, dismissing the way my pulse jumped at the sight of her wrist, the olive tone of her skin under the yellow string lights overhead. Glaring at her outstretched offering, I considered telling her to go to hell.
I considered it, but I wouldn’t.
I didn’t trust myself to speak, that was reason number one.
The other reason was harder to explain, or use as a justification, or admit to myself. Staring at her hand, I braced against a sudden flare of hunger. She might consider me a lower life-form, but that didn’t change the fact that I wanted to touch her. I wanted to touch her more than I wanted to tell her to go to hell, and that was fucking pitiful.
But there it was.
Acting on the compulsion, I lifted my right hand and tugged off the ski glove, sliding my warm palm against her much colder one. Her hand felt good in my hand, the right weight, the right size, the right texture, and I inhaled freezing air.
Mona also seemed to suck in a slow but expansive breath as our hands touched, held. This brought my eyes back to hers in time to see her lashes flutter. Pink colored her previously pale cheeks. The sound of the wailing wind, the sting of the air and frost momentarily melted away, leaving just her, her soft skin warming against mine, her beautiful face filling my vision.
So beautiful.
She really was. She was stunning. I hated that she was still so beautiful to me.

Forever Be Mine by Lauren Smith – a Review

Forever Be Mine by Lauren Smith – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / iTunes / Google Play

Description:
What’s love got to do with it?
Her life was a Tina Turner song. Celia Lynton had been told her entire life that she couldn’t marry for love, marriage should be a business agreement, poor men were only after the family fortune, blah, blah, blah. But now, there is no fortune. There’s only debt, and an urgency to find a way to pay her younger brother’s tuition at a school that can tend to his special needs. So yeah, there’s going to be a marriage. One of convenience. Just like her parents wanted. She’ll marry a future Scottish earl—a very rich future earl—and her brother will get to attend school. There’s just one problem: Celia is in love with another man.

You can’t always get what you want.
His life was a Rolling Stones song. Carter Martin has loved Celia since they were kids. Never mind he’s too quiet, too studious for someone who lights up a room when she smiles, add to that his father works for her family. Being the son of the “help”, he could never be good enough for her. So he’s worked hard his entire life to show his boss, the Earl of Pembroke, that he can take over his father’s position as Steward of the estate some day and take care of the family who has taken care of his for generations. Little does he know, Celia has a plan of her own…an intimate trip to Italy where they won’t be able to keep their hands off each other. How can he resist the only woman he’s ever loved?

Review:

Forever Be Mine by Lauren Smith is the 4th book in her Love in London series.  I have not read the earlier books in this series, but this read very well as a standalone, and I loved every moment of this wonderful sweet contemporary romance.

We meet our heroine, Celia Lynton, as she makes plans with her friend Callum, a future earl, to get married.  Seems Celia’s father lost all their money, and the family has moved in his brother; causing Celia to make arrangements to help her autistic brother Matthew to go to the school of his choice.  Callum will pay Matthew’s tuition and Celia will bear him the heir he needs to become the earl.  The problem is that both Celia and Callum are in love with someone else, but for both, duties come first.

Carter Martin is following in his father’s footsteps as steward of the Earl of Pembrooke’s estate.  He is in love with Celia, but he doesn’t make enough money to help her pay for Matthew’s tuition.  When he learns she is marrying someone else, he is despondent, but Celia invites him to take a trip to Italy for a month at her Aunt’s place, and enjoy their last days together.

What follows is a beautiful heartwarming story, as we watch both Carter and Celia show how much they love each other.  The chemistry between them was hot and steamy, but most of all their love was so  sweet, it was tearing our heart out (as well as theirs) that they would never be together.  But sometimes magic and miracles do take place.

Bravo to Lauren Smith for not only bringing us to tears many times, but creating a wonderful couple, and fabulous secondary characters.  It was so heartwarming to see others ( uncle, friends, Earl) come forth to express what love is all about, and never let it go.  Forever Be Mine was a tearjerker, but also so sweet and emotional.  If you love pure sexy romances that pull on your emotions, you need to read this book.  Thank you Lauren Smith for this wonderful story.

After a lifetime in the same small town, this art geek still feels invisible to the guy she knows is destined for her. Finally, Angela is ready to give destiny a shove.

Logan Sawyer is adored by the whole town, even taking a place next to his father as a sheriff’s deputy, with aspirations of becoming a detective. But there’s the mysterious circumstances of her father’s death tugging at Logan’s detective instincts. Could Angela be the one to break the case wide open? Or will their secrets destroy any chance at a happily-ever-after?

 Review;

This is second book by Season Vining that I’ve had the opportunity to read.  I don’t know, maybe it’s just me but there’s something about her writing that causes me to take forever to get through the story.  Maybe it’s the way she sets up the chapters according to the each character’s POV, the backtracking to past events, etc, I’m just not sure.  Don’t get me wrong, the characters were well developed and did manage to carry the story.  I have to say I much preferred Angela and Logan’s story over Wren and Preston’s story.  Fearless and Falling was easier for me to get into thanks in part to Angela and Logan, along with Angela’s best friend Audrey. Now there’s a secondary character you want to learn more about and get to know more, because she was an absolute hoot!!  She cracked me up in every scene she was in.  She helped to move Angela and Logan’s romance along and she did it in a very fun way.

Fearless & Falling does have more of that small town feel to it this time around and we get to see more of its residents.  Angela and Logan’s romance is slow to build and at times I did find myself wanting to skip ahead hoping the pace of the story would move itself along.  It wasn’t until the last 30% of the book that I finally found the pace picked up and events started unfolding at a much quicker pace for me.   Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy a slow build romance between the main couple, but I don’t like it when it feels dragged out.  Yes there was the issue with Angela’s fathers suspicious death years ago that gets between Angela and Logan at one point causing drama and angst with their romance.  Funny enough though, it actually helped move the story along creating more depth and intrigue to the overall feel of their story.  However, for me I would’ve liked to have started to discover the clues and facts sooner, rather then later.  For me that part felt a bit rushed.

Overall Fearless & Falling is a well thought out story, with a strong main couple who were able to carry their adventure.  Angela and Logan are a sweet couple and it was fun to watch them finally really see each other.  Actually Angela noticed Logan a lot sooner, it was Logan that didn’t really see Angela and he kept asking her throughout the story ‘where have you been hiding all this time?’   I liked that she kept telling him ‘in plain sight, you just never noticed me’.  Finally though Logan did notice Angela, even if it was with a little help from the ever resourceful Audrey and her not so subtle comments and hints to Logan.

Until next time, happy reading everyone.

Titanshade by Dan Stout – a Review

Titanshade by Dan Stout – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / iTunes / Google Play / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Carter’s a homicide cop in Titanshade, an oil boomtown where 8-tracks are state of the art, disco rules the radio, and all the best sorcerers wear designer labels. It’s also a metropolis teetering on the edge of disaster. As its oil reserves run dry, the city’s future hangs on a possible investment from the reclusive amphibians known as Squibs.

But now negotiations have been derailed by the horrific murder of a Squib diplomat. The pressure’s never been higher to make a quick arrest, even as Carter’s investigation leads him into conflict with the city’s elite. Undermined by corrupt coworkers and falsified evidence, and with a suspect list that includes power-hungry politicians, oil magnates, and mad scientists, Carter must find the killer before the investigation turns into a witch-hunt and those closest to him pay the ultimate price on the filthy streets of Titanshade.

Review:

Titanshade by Dan Stout is his debut novel, which is a sci-fi/fantasy/noir thriller and the first book in the Carter Archives series.  We meet Carter, our hero, at the start, when he is called to a horrific murder scene; of a Squib diplomat (one of the different species in this sci-fi/fantasy noir). Carter is a veteran detective in Titanshade, as well as one of the best; but his past history forces police management to keep him away from the media.

Carter, who is human, is forced to partner with Jax, another species, and together they must try to solve a complicated case that changes constantly; especially with corruption within the political side, the squibs, the rich oil magnets, scientists & prostitutes.  There are so many twists & turns that make this is an impossible and difficult case for Carter and Jax.

This is a very difficult  review to write, as you really need to read this book to fully understand this different and complicated world. Titanshade is a gritty, fast paced, suspenseful, action packed adventure, which has a lot of world-building.  I thought Titanshade was very well written by Dan Stout, especially since it’s his debut novel.  I have to say that fantasy noir is not really my type of read, and it took me awhile to finish this.  However, if you enjoy this noir sci-fi fantasy, then you should read Titanshade

The Empire (Filthy Trilogy #3) by Lisa Renee Jones-Review & Excerpt Tour

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 12, 2019

Passion. Lies. Family. Eric and Harper will feel the push and pull of a dynasty gone wrong. Secrets remain. Danger is everywhere. And the pull of a forbidden love will not be ignored.

Harper and Eric are now faced with trust issues. Can they survive their enemies and find a path to love and forever?

•••••••••

REVIEW: THE EMPIRE is the third instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult THE FILTHY erotic, romantic suspense trilogy focusing on billionaire/Navy SEAL and second in command to Grayson Bennett, Eric Mitchell, and heiress Harper Evans. Eric was first introduced in the author’s DIRTY RICH BETRAYAL (Dirty Rich #4) but you do not have to have read the previous series to understand or follow the story. As per most of Lisa’s series, there is a cross-over with inclusion of some of the characters from the author’s Walker Security series including Blake Walker, Savage, Adam and Smith. THE EMPIRE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately following the events of book one THE PRINCESS.

NOTE: If you have not read the previous instalments, there may be some spoilers in my review.

SOME BACKGROUND: Six years earlier, Eric Mitchell, the bastard son of Kingston Motors CEO Jeff Kingston met his father’s new step-daughter Harper Evans, a woman Eric dubbed The Princess, but a woman that stirred something deep within our story line hero. A one-night stand followed by the realization of who and what Harper Evans represented further pushed Eric away from his birth right, as the spare to the heir of Kingston Motors. Fast forward to present day wherein Harper and Eric, now in a relationship with one another, find themselves a target of an unknown assailant hoping to end them both.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Eric Mitchell and Harper Evans) THE EMPIRE picks up immediately after the cliff hanger of book two THE PRINCESS wherein Eric and Harper receive some unsettling news about Eric’s father, a man who is no longer able to defend himself. Hoping to protect themselves from further exposure, Eric and Harper surround themselves with Walker Security as they continue to investigate those closest to our leading couple. But Eric has kept secret his earlier attempts to destroy the family, and Harper knows much more about Eric’s past than she was willing to reveal.

The relationship between Eric and Harper is erotic and flirtatious, passionate and seductive. Eric’s need for Harper is fuelled by his fear of losing the woman with whom he was falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate, captivating and intense.

The world building continues to focus on the fractured family dynamics of the Kingston/Mitchell/Evans family, a family connected by blood, marriage, secrets and lies.

THE EMPIRE is a story of betrayal, power, romance and love. The premise is hypnotic, intriguing and suspenseful; the romance is provocative; the characters are larger than life, colorful and dramatic.

In life, there are people who touch our lives and leave lasting marks. There are people who cut us and do so in a way that we feel as if we might never heal. If we’re lucky, we find that one person who can soothe the ache of our wounds, if not heal them. That one person who sees our flaws as perfection. That one person who can make us whole again.

Eric shoves me against the wall of that alcove, and with that window beside us, overlooking the city, his big body pressed to mine, his kiss not only devours me—it speaks to me. He’s my one person and I’m his. I feel that in his touch. I feel that in the way we connect. I taste it in his kiss. I don’t know where this leads us. I don’t know if it means we can overcome the Kingston family, but I know we can overcome his demons. He doesn’t, though. I taste that in his kiss as well. There is torment, a feeling like he’s bad for me. That he shouldn’t want me and the only comfort I find in this and where we’re headed is that he isn’t pushing me away—he’s pulling me closer. And I will hold him tighter.

I sink into the hard lines of his body, slide my hands under his shirt, hard muscle flexing beneath my palms, the thick ridge of his erection pressed to my belly. God, how I want him, how I ache for more, and the next lick of his tongue just about undoes me. I tug on his shirt. “Take it off,” I order, wanting to feel him closer.

He reaches over his head and tugs it free and then fixes me in one of those scorching blue-eyed stares, the way he had the first night we met, and I’m melting right here in this office for him. He tugs my shirt over my head and unhooks the front of my bra, his gaze raking over my naked breasts, my nipples puckering beneath his inspection, and my sex clenching, empty, so very empty without him. “Better?” he challenges, his attention settling on my face.

My hands come down on his upper arms, the jaguar on his right shoulder, reminding me just how much he wants to deny his heritage. It reminds me just how much this family burns him alive. “A little.” I slide my hands down his hips and boldly stroke the line of his zipper, the thick ridge of his erection.

He groans, one of his hands covering my hand, the other hand catching my hair, a rough pull as his mouth closes down on mine again. And then he’s devouring me again and I love it. I love that I’ve drawn this deep, guttural reaction from him. I love that he’s all here with me, not in his own head, not doubting how good he is for me. Not swimming in the ocean of numbers in his head. Not in the hell of the Kingston family.

This drives me. I want to push him. I want to keep him here, with me. I squeeze his erection through his pants and whisper, “Why aren’t you inside me already?”

He turns me, pressing me to the wall like he had in the cottage, his big body wrapping my body, his hands on my breasts, fingers teasing my nipples, lips at my ear. “You were always sweeter than revenge,” he promises. “Always more addictive.” He plucks at my nipples. “So fucking addictive and I hated you for that.”

He reaches for my zipper and I squeeze my eyes shut. I don’t have to ask what he means. I understand. From the moment we met, he was in my head, in my heart, his touch imprinted on my body. The man I compared all others to, and they came up short. “I hated you, too.”

His hands press under the denim at my hips. He caresses them down my legs and then his arm is wrapping my waist and he’s lifting me. In a few quick moves, I’m naked and he’s standing at my hips, one palm possessively on my backside. The other on my belly. “Do you hate me now?” His fingers walk down to my sex and he cups me.

“Yes.” I look at him. “I still hate you for having this much control over me.” He slides his fingers along the seam of my sex, sending sensations darting through my body.

“Is that a bad thing?” he challenges, his palm squeezing my backside, his fingers slipping inside me.

“Yes,” I say, panting my way through that one word and somehow adding, “Because when I look in your eyes, like I am now, I see expectations. The wrong ones.”

He scowls and suddenly he’s turning me, pressing my back to the wall, his legs caging mine. “What does that mean?” he demands.

“It means as long as you expect to hurt me, as long as you expect you being a savant, you being different from me, to make us less, we will be. It means, you expect us to fail and so we will.” I swallow hard, my hand planting on his chest, his heart thundering beneath my palm, pounding out an emotional beat. “You think I can’t handle who and what you are. You still think I’m the princess and you’re the bastard.”

He tangles his fingers into my hair, his touch rough, erotic, as he drags my lips to his. “We are the bastard and the princess, but I don’t care anymore. I want you. I fucking need you. Do you understand me?”

Heat rushes over me, through my body, over my skin and settles in my heart and my sex. “I fucking need you, too.”

“Good, because I might have asked you to stay, but I never intended to let you go. I’m not going to let you go. I’m not going to let us go.”
