Against his better judgment, Storm agrees to hold off on bonding while they travel to Arizona to help his uncle figure out what is behind an unnatural death on the reservation. The more powers Evalle loses, the more she realizes linking to Storm could be lethal. Storm has a breakthrough on the unnatural deaths only to realize he’s put a target on Evalle’s back.

Review:

Evalle and Storm by Dianna Love is book 10.5 of her wonderful Belador series.  I love this series, and can’t wait to dig in and enjoy each and every book of this series. In Evalle and Storm, Dianna gives us another exciting and tense story, even though it is a short story (a bit more than a novella). I love Evalle, who is one of my favorite kick ass heroines.

When the last book left off in Treoir Dragon Hoard, the gang saved Evalle, but the cost for her was mind boggling; she could no longer shift to her Gryphon.   Evalle and Storm is a story we have been waiting for a long time; a tense but romantic story of our favorite couple.   Storm can see how Evalle is not handling her loss of her Gryphon, and sees she is slowly losing her other powers.  He tries to convince Evalle to bond with him and he can help her bring back her powers; but Evalle is afraid that if she bonds to Storm, she may infect him with whatever is still growing inside her.

When Storm is called by an uncle to help a serious deathly situation in Arizona, he and Evalle fly to investigate.  As Evalle keeps weakening, Storm is concerned and despite his working to solve a dark majak murder, he is hoping a seer or their medicine man might be able to help her.

What follows is an exciting adventure that will put both Evalle and Storm’s life in danger.  But most of all, it is a beautiful romance between two people we have rooted a long time for.  We know Storm will do anything to save Evalle; but will Evalle be able to rise up and save herself?  Another wonderful part of this story, was a sweet chapter early on revolving around Feenix, our wonderful adorable cute Gargoyle pet of Evalle’s.  In my last review, I asked Dianna to give us more of Feenix, and I was so pleased to see this happen.  More more Feenix..  ?

Evalle and Storm was an exciting and romantic story line, with a frantic climatic finish.  Dianna Love always gives us great stories, and wonderful characters.  I loved how she devoted this book to Evalle and Storm.  Very well done.

If you love paranormal, urban fantasy, exciting adventures and romance, with fantastic characters you should be reading this series, as Dianna is one of the best.  You need to start with the first book, in order to know Evalle (one of the best kick-ass heroines) and meet all the Beladors.  If you have not read Dianna Love, what are you waiting for?

•••••••••

REVIEW: IGNITE is the fifteenth full-length instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal, fantasy romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. This is copper dragon V aka Vlad, and registered nurse Claire. IGNITE should not be read as a stand alone as the current story lines continue to follow an ongoing series arc.

SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Silver Dragon Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides but someone or something is determined to push the Dragons back into another war: Queen Usaeil of the Light Fae has set her sights on claiming King Constantine as her mate, and the Dark Fae want the Dragon’s hidden weapon in order to rule Scotland and the rest of the world. With the recent introduction of the Fae executioners known as the Reapers, the number of interconnected series continues to expand.

Told from several third person perspectives including V and Claire, following numerous intersecting paths IGNITE focuses on the prelude to war. Vlad aka V, the copper dragon struggles with his purpose in the new world. For years, Vlad remained within his mountain, in a deep slumber, to protect those he wanted to destroy. With his magical sword missing, and his memories shattered, V kept to himself until the time came, to once again, search for the sword. Meeting Claire, stirred something deep within our story line hero, something he struggled to accept or need. Falling in love and finding his mate while the Dragon Kings were on the verge of war, found V considering the future, including the future with our story line heroine. With the return of his sword, and the power within, V once again, battles with what he wants, and what he needs to do.

Meanwhile, Queen Usaeil is determined to make Con her mate, to rule everyone and everything with the King of Kings by her side but in order to claim the supernatural throne Usaeil must first destroy those who stand in her way. As the Dragon Kings prepare to go to war, they discover that friends and adversaries must merge together in order to take down the evil that approaches. Friends become enemies, enemies become allies in an effort to reinforce for the battles ahead.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including many of the previous story line couples, a few Reapers and their leader Death, as well as another look at the group known as the Others. A surprise awaits Claire and V, an unexpected and unnatural piece of news that adds strife to an already tumultuous situation.

Claire is not a strong heroine, in fact, she longs for someone to love and love her back. Searching for ‘The One’ becomes tantamount for Claire, so much so that her search consumes her days and nights. Afraid of forever being alone Claire searches for her happily ever after. IGNITE reveals the ‘blogger’ behind the (Mis)adventures of a Dating Failure, a revelation that was a little disappointing and a bit of a let down- I was hoping for something more prophetic or extraordinary. The premise is revealing and engaging; the romance is fated and passionate; the characters are dynamic and animated. IGNITE begins to prepare the readers for the end of the series-an end that will reunite several series and characters we have grown to love throughout the years.

REVIEW: PARK AVENUE SUMMER by Renee Rosen is a stand alone story of women’s historical fiction focusing on a young woman in 1965 whose short lived career as the personal secretary to Helen Gurley Brown jumpstarts a life of love, loss, and professional success as a world renowned photographer.

Told from first person perspective (Alice) PARK AVENUE SUMMER follows twenty-one year old, single woman Alice Weiss as she ventures to New York City in 1965, to experience the life her late mother had always promised. With the help of her mother’s one time best friend Elaine Sloan, Alice will be hired as the personal secretary to Cosmopolitan’s new editor in Chief, Helen Gurley Brown, who along with Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem changed the world. Sandy’s REVIEW:

AMERICAN WITCH is the first instalment in Thea Harrison’s contemporary, adult AMERICAN WITCH paranormal romance trilogy set in the world of the Elder Races. This is forty year old, Molly Sullivan and attorney Josiah Mason’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Molly and Josiah) AMERICAN WITCH follows Molly Sullivan in the aftermath of discovering her husband’s latest affair, a discovery that triggered Molly’s latent Powers as a witch. Unable to control the emerging magic, Molly’s Powers are a beacon to the local coven, a coven lead by the new DA, and Powerful witch Josiah Mason. An attack against our heroine leaves Molly battling for her life, a life that is threatened by the man she once loved. Enter Josiah Mason, the man with whom Molly will fall in love but a man who struggles to move on from the past.

Josiah Mason only wants one thing –to end the life of the man who destroyed everything he loved. With his coven hoping for vengeance of their own, Josiah has no time to babysit a fledgling witch, a witch that calls to his heart and his soul. Molly Sullivan, on the run to stay one step ahead of those hunting her down, discovers not everything will go according to plan, and in the end, she is forced to run from the man with whom she is falling in love.

The relationship between Molly and Josiah is one of immediate attraction but Molly is unaware of her burgeoning Powers. Josiah battles between head and heart as it pertains to our story line heroine, a woman who struggles to gain some semblance of the life that is quickly spinning out of control. Molly refuses to be dependant upon Josiah Mason but the palpable sexual attraction is hard to ignore. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to several members of Josiah’s coven including Anson, Henry, Richard and Maria; as well as Sarah, a witch of immense power, her nephew Sam, and the Everwood, California coven of witches.

AMERICAN WITCH is a story of power and control; betrayal and revenge; magic and mayhem. The premise is engaging and enchanting; the characters are colorful and dynamic; the romance is fated and complex. AMERICAN WITCH is an energetic and gripping introductory story from the pen of Thea Harrison.

______________

Barb’s Review:

American Witch by Thea Harrison is the 1st book in her new American Witch series, which is slightly part of her wonderful Elder Races series.  When I started this book, I was not sure what to expect, other then knowing anything written by Thea Harrison would be a great read. I am happy to say to no surprise, I loved American Witch.

Molly Sullivan, is a close to 40 year old housewife and our heroine, and has recently been feeling strange things that she cannot explain.  When she is preparing a party for their anniversary, she finds hidden in one of their draws the proves her husband of 20 years has been cheating on her.  Molly’s anger surges as she loses control of her feelings, and lets it out at her husband in front of the party guests; then she takes everything and leaves the house, while he is still trying to keep the party going.

Josiah Mason, our hero, is the new DA in town, as well as a powerful witch.  He recognizes that Molly is awakening her witch powers, which he can tell are very powerful.   Josiah and his coven have been secretly trying to find someone, who has killed many people, including families from their coven members.  They have all worked together secretly for many years, looking for this evil villain.

When Josiah finds Molly, he explains what is happening to her, and though at first she wants nothing to do with him, she knows she will need help to learn how to control her new powers.  Josiah tries to help Molly, though he knows he cannot stay to help her, as the coven has managed to keep themselves secret.  After Molly’s husband viciously attacks her, to get back papers that she took when she left, she managed to escape alive, and Josiah takes her to the coven’s safe house.

Despite his attempt to not allow himself to become attracted to Molly, Josiah finds it very difficult and their chemistry together is hot.  Josiah needs to find the person whom they have spent many years searching, and he needs to help Molly leave town, since the safe house was compromised.  He gives her money to leave, and she ends up in California meeting an older women she has visions about in her dreams.

What follows is that while Josiah works with his coven, Molly learns how to use her powers from the elder woman, Sarah, and the other girls in their coven.  Slowly, day by day her powers grow, and she learns how to control them.  She also becomes very close to Sarah and the other witches, and loves living there.

A terrible accident severely injures Josiah and Molly flies home to check on him.  Her life is in danger, as the villain senses her powers and is determined to take them.  The ending was an exciting action packed thriller, with Molly needing help from her coven and Josiah’s to survive.  Will Josiah give in to his love for Molly and give up his quest?  You will need to read this book to find out.  Thea Harrison once again gives us another wonderful new arc in the Elder Races Universe.

•••••••••••••••

Sandy’s REVIEW:

DRAGON FIRE is the third instalment in Juliette Cross’ amazing adult VALE OF STARS paranormal, fantasy series focusing on a dragon hybrid species known as the Morgons. This is Morgon Kieren Moonring, and Sister Liana’s story line. DRAGON FIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and history.

NOTE: There is a novella companion series entitled NIGHTWING (Soulfire #1 / Windburn #2) that introduces several of the characters and some background history into the war between the Morgons and humankind. I would strongly recommend reading the Nightwing companion series before starting the Vale of Stars series.

Told from three first person points of view (Kieren, Liana, Dakian) DRAGON FIRE follows in the aftermath of an injury that almost killed our story line hero. Healing and in hiding at the Sisters of Saint Portia convent Kieren would meet his future, his mate in the guise of Sister Liana, a woman with secrets of her own. An attack by the Larkosians, a rogue group of Morgons, against the Sisters of Saint Portia finds Kieren and Liana on the run, hoping to find help along the way. What ensues is the building relationship between Kieren and Liana, and the potential fall-out as Liana becomes the obsession of the Blood King’s right hand man, obsession that burns with vengeance and retribution.

DRAGON FIRE is a story of power and control; destruction and obsession; family, friendship, and fated love. Liana struggles with the death of her father, and the revenge that forced our heroine into a life with the Sisters. Kieren knows it is only a matter time before his enemies discover his whereabouts but our hero has no idea that betrayal was but a dragon’s flight away.

The relationship between Kieren and Liana is one of immediate attraction but Kieren believes Liana is off-limits, a Sister of Saint Portia, a woman raised to serve and obey. A series of shared dreams and fantasies finds Kieren hoping for a future with the mate of his heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and strong, secondary and supporting characters including Demetrius and Shakara (Dragon Heartstring #.5), Kol and Moira (Waking the Dragon #1), Conn and Valla (Dragon in the Blood #2): Lucius and Jessen (Soulfire), Lorian and Sorcha (Windburn), Bowen, Craven: Bastien Silverback and his ‘bastards’ Madera and Rafe. The requisite evil has many faces including the Blood King Larkos, and Larkosian Lieutenant Dakian.

DRAGON FIRE is the prelude to war, a war between the Morgons and the Larkosians, a war meant to kill and destroy. DRAGON FIRE is also a story of discrimination and specieism, dominance and rule, authority and control. The Blood King Larkos is demanding his seat on the throne, and in doing so, sets out to destroy everyone and everything in his way, but most especially to rid the world of the human vermin. The fantastic premise is engaging and energetic; the romance is seductive and moving; the characters are strong, complex and spirited.

BARB’s Review:

Dragon Fire by Juliette Cross is the 3rd book in her Vale of Stars series.  I could not wait to get my hands on this book, as I have come to expect a fantastic story from Juliette Cross, every time.  I have read all her book, and each and everyone of them have been exciting, action packed, sexy and simply fantastic.  I am happy to say that I loved Dragon Fire.

In Dragon Fire, Kieran Moonring, our hero, is recovering from serious injuries he suffered when saving his brother’s mate in the last book of this series.  Kieran is a wanted man, having killed a powerful senator’s son and has been hidden at the Sisters of the Light convent, where he has been healing for many months.  Kieran knows he can never become involved with any of the sisters, though he finds himself very attracted to one of them.

Liana, has been the main caretaker for Kieran, and finds herself having difficulty in fighting off her attraction to him.  Kieran has decided it is time for him to return home and face the charges against him, as well as join the fight to stop the Blood King Larkos and his Larkosians. He also knows he can longer stay around Liana, as his dragon also wants to keep her as their mate.  Liana has dreams about Kiernan, which she does not know is part of his dreams too.

But before he leaves, all hell breaks loose as the Larkosians have attacked the convent, and Kieran was able to get Liana and himself to safety.  As he quickly grabs Liana, she sees the evil of these man who are brutally raping, killing or kidnapping the other sisters.  Kiernan gets help from one of his brother’s men, and he is able to bring Liana back to Kol’s (last book hero) house, in the safety of his Morgon family and friends.   Liana will learn the truths of the evil outside the convent; become friends with the mates from earlier books, as well as try to push Kiernan to succumb to their feelings.  The chemistry between them was scorching hot, and started burning the pages ( ok I do read on a kindle ?), especially with the  possible onset of soulfire.   I really loved them together.  Things do progress between them when Liana explains that she is not a true sister, but was forced to stay at the convent as punishment for killing the man who killed her father.

What follows is a very exciting, action packed adventure that will bring back many of our favorites from the first two books, as well as from the original Nightwing series.  I loved seeing them all.  Just when they face the senate to free Kiernan from the charges, the evil Blood King and his Larkanians attack to take over the senate.   As the Morgon men join hands to fight off the enemy, Liana’s finds herself in a horrific dangerous situation that will have us holding our breaths.  Will either Kiernan or Liana survive?

Dragon Fire was a fascinating read, from start to finish. Liana and Kiernan were a super couple, and it was great to spend time all the other super people we met previously This is a wonderful series that you should not miss. Juliette Cross has once again created another wonderful story that has a bit of everything; hot sexy couple; action, suspense, great secondary characters, evil villains and excellent writing.  Dragon Fire was wild, crazy exciting, action packed and steamy adventure.  If  you have not read Juliette Cross, what are you waiting for?

His promise eased the visceral fear ripping through my bones. I’d never
seen violence like that. Not even in my father’s line of work.

Kieren knelt suddenly and ripped at the bottom of my gown. He glanced up,
his eyes a burning blue, his pupils elongated into serpentine slits. Rather
than cause more panic, his dragon’s presence made me feel safer. “I’m
sorry. I need to bind you to me.”

“To…to fly?”

“Yes.” He finished ripping off material up to my thighs, then wove it into
one long strip. His gaze flickered down my legs. “We’ll need to find some
place to hide nearby. To get you proper clothes. You’ll go hypothermic if
we fly too long. It’s cold up there.”

Glancing back where a yellow haze lit the sky in the distance, I blurted,
“But my sisters. We have to go back—we have to—”

“Liana.” His voice was gruff and hoarse, either from the smoke or from
emotion. Or both. “If I could, I’d save *every* one of them. I can only
carry one without a harness and for any length of time. As it is”—he craned
his neck back to look up at the sky—“those Morgons are likely flying nearby
above the woods.” His gaze fell back to mine. “There’s a chance we may not
even make it ourselves.” His tone softened but sent an even colder chill
through me. “Especially if we stay here much longer.”

He eased forward. On instinct, I stepped back, my body reacting without my
brain. He paused, once more tilting my chin up so I’d look at him.

“I know you’re afraid, Liana.” He caressed the back of his fingers up
across my cheek. “I’d never hurt you. I’m not one of those men you saw back
at the Temple.”

“I-I know.” I swallowed hard. “I’m just—”

“It’s all right. I’m going to protect you.” He held out a hand. “Come
closer, Liana.”

Now his voice was a soothing, calm melody against the horror filling the
night in the distance. He offered me his hand, wanting me to feel safe, to
have the choice to take it. Of course, I knew he was safe. But my survival
instincts were running riot with the images of Sister Mandia and Sister
Janice. Gulping hard, I lay my hand in his, the warmth engulfing mine.

He pulled me close, chest to chest. “Wrap your arms around my waist.”

I did, pressing my cheek to his scarred pectoral. If I wasn’t so
horror-stricken, I would relish this moment. I exhaled a deep breath, the
terror shivers ebbing. He was so big and hard and warm. He quickly looped
the fabric around and around several times until he tied the ends in a knot.

“This obviously isn’t a proper harness,” he whispered above me. “And even
without it I’d never drop you, but it will keep you to me should I have to
fight mid-air.”

Gasping, I shot my head up. He was looking back toward the Temple, a yellow
haze beyond the woods.

“Fight mid-air?” I croaked.

He looked down, cupping my face with large, warm hands. Dropping his head
lower, his lips a scant breath from mine, he murmured low, “No one will
hurt you.” A soft, tender brush of his mouth over mine. “I’ll kill every
one of them.” Another soft sweep of his lips. A nip at my lower lip. “I’ll
tear them all to pieces before they touch you.”

More growl than words, I should’ve been more afraid. Of the dangerous
violence simmering just beneath the surface. But I wasn’t. I opened my
mouth against his and pressed closer. His answering groan rumbled from his
chest to mine as he slid his tongue inside with a predatory sweep. His kiss
became deep, devouring, invading, as he banded his arms around me,
squeezing my soft body against his hard one. He bracketed his legs outside
mine, hard thighs pressing against my hips, continuing to kiss me with
bruising intensity. When I’d loosened enough to slip my tongue inside his
own mouth, he snapped away. Pulling back, he studied me with those keen
eyes. I had no idea what I looked like to him—shaken, dazed, and panting,
but all for an entirely different reason than when I’d fled the Temple.

His arms wrapped all the way around me, his fingers gripping my ribcage and
waist. “Hang on.”
That was all the warning I had before he bent his knees, whipped open his
wings, and shot up into the night sky.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 23, 2019

After years of estrangement, Mercedes Laughlin has finally reconciled with her older brother. It should be the happiest time of her life, getting to know Truck and his new wife…and it would be, if an ex wasn’t causing her trouble. Add in Truck’s boss, Colonel Colton Robinson, an amazingly distracting man whom she met under embarrassing circumstances, and Macie’s got a bit more on her plate than she can handle.

From the moment they met, Colt was fascinated by Macie, and helping her through an anxiety attack at her brother’s wedding didn’t diminish the appeal. He’d do his best to sweep her off her feet, if not for a little voice telling him to tread lightly—until a frantic phone call changes the plan. Macie’s being targeted, and Colt’s determined to keep her safe while he and her brother eliminate the threat.

Colt isn’t about to let his friend lose his sister again so soon…or miss his own chance at a happy ending with Macie before they’ve barely had a beginning.

REVIEW: RESCUING MACIE is a contemporary, adult story line in Susan Stoker’s DELTA FORCE HEROES military, romantic suspense series, and the latest in the 1001 Dark Nights multi-authored anthology. This is forty-three year old Colonel Colton Robinson, and thirty-three year old, author’s PA Mercedes ‘Macie’ Laughlin’s story line. RESCUING MACIE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary. Macie is Ford ‘Truck’ Laughlin’s sister (Rescuing Mary).

Told from dual third person perspectives (Macie and Colton) RESCUING MACIE follows the quick building relationship between forty-three year old Colonel Colton Robinson, and thirty-three year old, author’s PA Mercedes ‘Macie’ Laughlin. Two months earlier Colonel Colton Robinson fell for Mercedes Laughlin at Ford Laughlin’s wedding, but a one-night stand, of a sorts, ended with Macie ghosting our story line hero. A break-in at Macie’s apartment finds our heroine on the run, and her lifeline is her brother’s commander Colonel Colton Robinson. With Colton in her ear, Macie battles anxiety and fear as her would-be intruders are desperate to take down our story line heroine. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Macie and Colt, and the potential fall-out as Macie’s past demands what was lost.

Macie Laughlin suffers with an extreme anxiety disorder, so much so, that her life is constantly spiralling out of control. Estranged from her brother Ford, Macie has no idea as the who or why of the recent attack but Colt Robinson is determined to protect the woman with whom he has fallen in love.

The relationship between Colt and Macie is one of immediate attraction but an attraction tempered by misunderstanding and miscommunication, Macie hates that her life is controlled by the anxiety that threatens her daily life; Colt battles the demons that continue to haunt his days and nights The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including most of the previous story line heroines who feel obligated to protect our heroine from the path she has chosen

RESCUING MACIE is a story of family and lies, betrayal and vengeance. The fast paced premise is engaging and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are colorful and energetic. As per Susan’s style of writing, our heroine battles an emotional and crippling disorder, a disorder that many are unable to understand.

“Everything good?” he asked.
Macie nodded.
“No, Macie,” he said as he put a hand on the side of her neck and leaned in. “Are you good?”
She couldn’t help the small smile that broke out. “I’m good,” she told him. “Really. I liked them. Annie is hysterical, and I loved getting to know Emily and Casey more.”
“And Mary? Did she behave?”
Macie must’ve hesitated a moment too long, because Colt sighed and pulled back. He reached for her hand and pulled her into the living room. He sat on the couch and tugged Macie down onto his lap. He put his arms around her waist and held her firmly.
Macie stared at him in shock. They’d slept curled up next to each other every night, and Colt never hesitated to touch her, to caress her cheek or run a hand over her hair. But he’d never simply hauled her around before—at least, not since the night of the break-in—and she hadn’t sat on anyone’s lap since she was five years old.
Not sure where to put her hands, she rested them in her lap awkwardly.
“What’d she say?” Colt asked.
“Nothing.”
“Mace,” he said more gently. “I can tell she said something. I mean, it’s Mary, she can’t help herself, it’s part of her charm.” He smiled. “Now tell me, so I can reassure you about whatever it was, and then I’ll go get us some dinner. I’m hungry.”
It was the last bit that made Macie change her mind about telling him. She had a feeling he would sit there all night if she didn’t spill. He was that stubborn. But his stubbornness was one of the many reasons she was crazy about him.
Pushing those feelings to the back of her mind, refusing to think about them right now, she said, “I’m sure she was exaggerating, or that she simply doesn’t know the truth.”
“About what?”
Taking a deep breath, Macie said, “She was just trying to make sure I knew what this was. What was happening here. And she told me about you killing a bunch of people when your friend was captured.”
She felt Colt’s thigh muscles tense under her butt, and it seemed as if the air in the room thickened with emotion.
Oh shit. Why had she told him? She should’ve made something up. She was such an idiot! Now he was going to tell her she couldn’t stay at his house anymore, that he couldn’t help her. She should’ve kept her big mouth shut!

The Trouble with Vampires (Argeneau #29) by Lynsay Sands-a review

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 25, 2019.

For close to three thousand years the imposing, impossibly handsome Santo Notte has fought in armies across the world and battled his own, more personal enemies. Of all the places he might expect to encounter his life mate, a quiet corner of upstate New York doesn’t seem likely. But as soon as he makes contact with history professor Petronella Stone, while hunting down a suspected rogue immortal, he knows that she will be the greatest adventure of his eternal life.

He expects her to be surprised, confused, even overwhelmed. What he doesn’t expect is that Pet has a secret history of her own. There’s no mistaking the mind-blowing, mutual pleasure they share. But as Pet struggles to protect her nephew from a danger lurking too close to home, Santo realizes there’s another threat to her safety—him. And claiming their passionate future will be impossible until he leaves his past behind, forever

•••••••••••

REVIEW: The Trouble With Vampires begins with Petronella Stone, known as Pet, babysitting her nephew due to both parents being out of town. She finds herself a bit surprised to see that the neighbors are out of town and have rented out their home to a group of people (Marguerite Argeneau Notte and her husband, Julius, among others) vacationing. She’s also surprised when her nephew tells her that the neighbor across the street has company who doesn’t seem very nice and he’s a bit worried about the elderly neighbor. After she and her nephew have gone to bed, she discovers someone trying to break into her sister’s home and calls 911.

Santo Notte has been summoned to upstate New York in order to help track a rogue immortal. While surveilling the house across the street, he and his family (who are there to help track the rogue) see someone trying to break into the house next door and leap into action. Even though the rogue gets away, they take Pet and her nephew into their ‘rental’ to keep them safe and to make the necessary repairs to Pet’s house.

Once Santo realizes that he can’t read or control Pet, he knows she is his lifemate, but moves slowly as to not run her off for more than one reason. Not only does he not want her to run because he’s an immortal, it appears that he has been keeping a secret that he fears could put her in danger……from him.

The Trouble With Vampires is another great addition to the Argeneau series. I loved Pet. And I loved that she actually already knew about immortals. That particular backstory is one of the best yet in the series. I’ve been waiting on Santo’s story for a while now. His abduction and torture at the hands of an evil doctor, and ultimate escape, has shaped him into a bit of a brooding character. However, once he realizes that Pet is his lifemate, he tries to shake loose of the past in order to have a future with her. The chemistry between the two of them, as well as their understanding of each other’s backgrounds, will endear both of them to everyone who reads their story. The Trouble With Vampires is book number 29 in the Argeneau series, and I still love them. Every one of them. They are fun, poignant with just the right amount of steam. If you’re a paranormal romance fan, you will NEVER go wrong with one of these books. The entire Argeneau family, as well as their extended family, is one of the most endearing families in paranormal romance history, in my humble opinion. Well done, Lynsay Sands! Very, very well done!

Review:

Saving the Mail Order Bride by Linda Broday is the 2nd book in her wonderful Outlaw Mail Order Brides series.  I have become a big fan of Broday’s western historical romance stories, and Saving the Mail Order Bride is once again another fantastic story line. Refresher: Hope’s Crossing started as a town run by outlaws who wanted to begin a new clean life, and build a family.

We met our hero, Jack Bowden, in the previous book, and we felt sorry for Jack, since he did not get the warrants against him removed.  In Saving the Mail Order Bride, Jack has been captured by a US Marshall and being brought to a jail to await his probable hanging.

Nora Kane, our heroine is traveling on the same stagecoach with Jack, and when the stagecoach crashes, they end up together to escape those chasing them.  The problem is that Nora snapped the handcuffs on Jack and her to keep herself safe, and without a key they are bound together.  Jack is escaping the lawmen, and Nora is running away from someone from her past who wants something she has.   At first, neither of them get along, but in a short time, especially after they both find out that Nora is a mail order bride, and she was supposed to marry Jack.  The chemistry between them grew with each difficult passing day, as they both began to find themselves attracted to each other.  The humor between them was also great; it was just fun to watch them show their true feelings.  Jack was tough and strong, in protecting Nora, as well as loyal; Nora was equally as tough, and was determined to help Jack and become his bride.  I loved them together, as they were perfect for each other.

What follows is an exciting story line, and a sweet romance between two people with flawed pasts that will catch up with them.  When things appear desperate, they will get help from our last book’s heroes, Tally and Clay, and finally connect to Hope’s Crossing with the help of others.  I also loved when Jack and Nora rescued a young 8 year old boy from a mean outlaw, and takes the boy, Sawyer, with them, and eventually as part of their family when they arrive in Hope’s Crossing.  There is also a baby that is rescued along the way that becomes part of their family.  So nicely done

More people come to join their town, and help with the rebuilding process.  They all stick together to protect Nora, Sawyer and baby Willow. There were some great secondary characters they we got to meet, and learn to care for, such as the Tally, Rebel, Dr Mary, and Jack’s friends, Clay, Ridge, Luke, etc.   The last half of the book was very exciting, as a few times they find themselves in dangerous situations, which will bring them face to face with those who have been chasing them from the start.  Nora will try to use something valuable that she has to help save Jack.

Linda Broday once again gives us another wonderful new western historical series, with a fantastic group of characters, and a couple we fell in love with.  Saving the Mail Order Bride was a great addition to this series, as it was emotional, exciting, sweet romantic story, with a fabulous group of secondary characters and a great couple.
