ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 25, 2019

Her new client is the bad boy of rock.

Security agent Julia Slate is going undercover. Her assignment? Protect rocker Bran Copper. He’s sexy, has a reputation for living life to the extreme, and he’s also the target of one very obsessed fan. Julia’s job is to keep Bran safe…and the catch? Bran can’t know that she’s his bodyguard. Bran’s manager has hired her because the star refuses to get protection. Bran just wants to be left alone. With his stalker escalating, that isn’t an option.

It should be easy to keep him at arm’s length.

Julia pretends to be Bran’s new assistant as she moves into his mountain home. She acts shy and reserved, a delicate flower who isn’t a threat…when she can totally kick butt any day of the week. She will stay with Bran twenty-four, seven, and make sure he’s safe. It’s supposed to be business only, and there is no way the guy is her type. He’s everything that she doesn’t want in a lover. Right? But…the more time they spend together, the more she realizes that the bad boy? It’s just an image he projects. There is a whole lot more to the real man.

But she’s lying to him.

Bran has been betrayed over and over again, and now Julia is lying to him, too. She thought her lies didn’t matter. She thought she was keeping him safe, but she never expected to give her heart to the man she’s been hired to protect.

He’s never met anyone like her.

Bran’s new assistant is gorgeous, smart, and…making him crazy. He’s used to women throwing themselves at him, used to people not caring about who he is—just that he’s famous. But Julia isn’t like that. She touches something inside of him, she makes him want, makes him crave everything that he’s never had. Soon Bran can’t imagine ever letting her go. He needs her, he wants her, and what Bran wants…he gets.

s the threats keep mounting, as the stalker closes in, will Bran be able to forgive Julia when he learns the truth? Or will they crash and burn? Because THE HEART YOU BREAK…it could be the one that matters most.

REVIEW: THE HEART YOU BREAK is the fourth instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary, adult WILDE WAYS romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Wilde Securities. This is former fire fighter and security agent Julia Slate, and rock star Bran Copper. THE HEART YOU BREAK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Bran and Julia THE HEART YOU BREAK follows Julia Slate as she is assigned protection duty to rock star Bran Copper, a musician whose stalker is getting too close. Bran doesn’t want protection, in fact he is using himself as bait to pull in the person trying to destroy his life but baiting the bad guy affects more than our story line hero. Julia Slate goes undercover as Bran’s assistant, a position that places our heroine up close and personal with rock’s newest bad boy. What ensues is the building relationship between Bran and Julia, and the potential fall-out as everyone working the case at Wilde Securities becomes collateral damage as the stalker is determined to take down our story line hero.

The relationship between Julia and Bran is one of immediate attraction but Bran doesn’t want an assistant; doesn’t want security; and definitely doesn’t want another female groupie destroying his life. Julia Slate struggles to keep her under cover assignment on the down low but falling for Bran Copper finds Julia out of her element, and distracted when she is needed the most. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Julia’s fellow security specialists: Cole Vincent, Rick Williams, Eric Wilde, and town sheriff Gideon Warren.

THE HEART YOU BREAK is a story of betrayal, deception and vengeance; of struggle and acceptance; of love and a happily ever after. The premise is energetic and engaging; the romance is seductive and intense; the characters are colorful, dynamic and strong. I guessed the identity of the stalker early on but the author threw in a secondary possibility in an effort to deflect attention from the requisite evil.

REVIEW: CALCULATED RISK is the first instalment in Janie Crouch’s contemporary, adult BREE AND TANNER THRILLER romantic, suspense series focusing on thirty-three year old, sheriff’s deputy captain Tanner Dempsey, and twenty-four year old, computer genius Bree Daniels aka Bethany Malone. There is a slight cross-over with the author’s Linear Tactical series.

A secret message begging for help finds Bree in possession of her cousin Melissa Weathers’ twins, as she struggles to find food and shelter before it’s too late. What ensues is the building relationship between Bree and Tanner, and the potential fall-out as Bree’s past demands payment and more.

Bree Daniels’ has never known peace and quiet. A child genius and prodigy Bree would become the pawn for a terrorist ‘Organization’ determined to control the world by funnelling information to radical groups and revolutionary governments. When Melissa begs for help, Bree knows her whereabouts and safety have been compromised again. Tanner Dempsey knows Bree is lying about the who, how and why of her current circumstance but the people of Risk Peak take Bree under their wing in an attempt to protect a young woman who would become their own.

The relationship between Bree and Tanner is one of immediate attraction but Bree is in no place to start a relationship or fall in love. Tanner wants nothing more than to protect the woman with whom he will fall in love but a woman whose secrets are about to come crashing into the town of Risk Peak, Colorado. There are no $ex scenes-at this point their relationship is only beginning.

We are introduced to a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters: Bree’s cousin Melissa Weathers, and her twins Christian and Beth; Tanner’s brother former Special Forces soldier Noah Dempsey; Linear tactical security specilists Zac Mackay, and Gavin Zimmerman; sheriff’s deputy Ronnie Kitchens ; sheriff’s inter-county task force on communications member Scott Watson ; construction worker Bill Steele; owners of the Sunset Diner Cheryl and Dan Andrews; Organization head Michael Jeter.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 26,2019

He wanted to be left in peace…

West Morgan knows all about second chances. After bouncing from foster home to foster home, he finally landed at the Rawlings Ranch as a teenager. There he found a home, something he’d never thought possible. Now an adult, he realizes he’s been given much more: a family and, most importantly, peace. But when his mentor dies and leaves the property divided among his foster brothers and his mentor’s daughter, Tara Rawlings, the fragile future he’s built for himself is threatened.

She wanted to be free of her past…

Tara Rawlings swore she’d never end up with someone like her father, a man completely focused on the ranch to the exclusion of his loved ones. She created a new life for herself in San Francisco, running an interior design company and getting married, then divorced. When she returns to settle her father’s estate, she finds that her birthright is in jeopardy. And the only way to save it is to work with West Morgan, the one man she has always resented—and always found irresistible.

Can they save the ranch without killing each other … or falling in love?

••••

REVIEW:A Cowboy’s Salvation is book one in the Redemption Ranch Series by Megan Ryder.

Tara Rawlings had her own life, her own interior design company in San Francisco, even her own marriage and then divorce. She is currently in the process of putting her life back together. When her father passes away, she realizes that she hasn’t been home to the ranch in years, she was even avoiding phone calls from her father, at least until she got her life back on track. Then she get the phone call that her father has passed away and she must return home.

Her relationship with her father was strained, to say the least. Her father always put the ranch first. Her mother felt it before she passed away, and Tara felt it when shortly after her mothers death she was sent away to school . The reason behind her father sending her away – a better education and life. What hurt her the most is she felt pushed away and replaced by the foster boys her father took in and raised. She had no desire to return home, but she had to go and claim what is rightfully hers, her family legacy.

West Morgan was a troubled teen stuck in the chaos of foster care. That is until he was taken in by Douglas Rawlings of the Double R Ranch. The ranch became home to three fosters, who considered themselves brothers. Douglas raised them into strong, capable men. And when Douglas passes away, they are worried that the place they have called home most of their lives will be taken from them. And that it will all be given to Tara, Douglas’ privileged “princess” daughter.

When Tara returns home, the first person she sees is West Morgan, she has nothing but ill will towards the man that took her place with her father. That is until they find out that the ranch was equally split among the three boys and Tara. With the boys refusing to sale, Tara must come up with a plan to save the failing ranch and return to her life in San Francisco But life is never that simple, and once two people begin to open up with each other, anything can happen.

I enjoyed the tit for tat relationship West and Tara had. West was strong and stubborn in his morals and beliefs. He runs the ranch and everything must be done his way. But once Tara comes along and shows him that there are other viable solutions to saving the ranch, he slowly begins to come around to the idea. They both had pre-conceived notions of the other. When West tells Tara that she must work the ranch if she wants to make changes to it, their world begins to change.

Can they save the ranch that they all have come to love and protect Tara’s families legacy? Will Tara be able to have her life in San Francisco and at the ranch?

Wonderfully written, the landscape that Megan paints makes me want to go to the nearest ranch and just hang out. The “brothers” are super fun, and typical brotherly antics leave you laughing out loud. I can’t wait to read the next brothers story! Highly recommend if you want a quick read and a steamy, loveable cowboy romance.

Plus West sounds hot – so there’s that!

West had Tara right where he wanted, pressed up against him for a slow dance playing on the jukebox. Probably the last one before the band started playing for the night, unless his other brother decided to sing. Ty was partial to ballads. He said the girls loved sad love songs and the soulful men who sang them.
West pulled her close and she relaxed against his body, her hands winding around his neck to tangle loosely in the strands of hair there. She leaned into him, her lower body rubbing up against his, igniting the embers to a fire that never seemed to go out around her. His blood pounded in his veins, a slow molten burn that spread throughout his body and settled low in his groin. He settled his chin on her head and breathed in the fresh citrus scent of her hair and peace settled over him, a peace he had experienced in only one other place.
“You need a haircut, cowboy,” she murmured against his chest.
He let his hands drift lower down her back, just above the curve of her ass, to pull her even closer. “I’ve been busy.”
She ran her fingernails along his scalp, a gentle bite that sent a tingle through his nerves. “Don’t cut it on my account. I like you a little bit messy. You don’t seem so perfect this way.”
He grinned and plunged his fingers into her blonde waves, artfully arranged, messing up the long strands until she looked less sculpted. “Then you won’t mind if I return the favor. Now you look like we just had some fun in the barn.”
She closed her mouth and swallowed, watching him warily. He spread her hair over her shoulders, watching the lower strands brushing the tops of her breasts. Her tongue swiped out and licked her lips and he groaned, dying to take her lips in a kiss, but not here, not in front of everyone.
“You’re killing me.” He pulled her close again and closed his eyes, thinking about cows, manure, anything but the sweet smelling, sexy lady he had pressed up against him, swaying so gently in all the right places. Even thinking of Douglas didn’t douse the slow fire burning in his veins. She rotated her hips, grazing his groin in a move that was too targeted to be an accident. He stilled her hips and she chuckled, the sound vibrating against his chest.
He playfully slapped her ass. “Bad girl. Settle down or I’ll have to treat you like Black Jack.”
She lifted her head and smirked at him. “Is that a threat or promise?”
Before he could answer, the music stopped, and she started to step away, but he tugged her back. He bent down and whispered, “You just wait until we get home, lady. We’ll see if that was a threat or promise.”
She shivered but the secret smile remained on her face.

Drakon’s Knight by N.J. Walters – a Review

Drakon’s Knight by N.J. Walters – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play

Description:
Drakon Jericho Drake, the child of a pure-blood dragon and human, has a simple plan: Kill the leader of the Knights of the Dragon and start a war. Except, when he meets his target, Karina Azarov, she can’t remember who she is. Worst of all––he can’t kill her. His dragon side has just claimed the dangerous woman as his mate.

Karina has no idea why these Drakon’s have taken her to their home. And she most certainly does not understand why she’s so drawn to her captor. Maybe because he’s strong, intelligent, and caring, in his enigmatic sort of way. One thing she knows, he’s not going to hurt her. If only she could remember something from her past that would explain why these Drakon’s hate her so much. But if her memory returns, mated or not, he may get his war.. And one of them will die.

Review:

Drakon’s Knight by N.J. Walters is the 7th book in her Blood of the Drakon series.

I’ve read books 1 and 4 there is a little story going on from book to book, but I don’t think it makes too much difference to the story.

Jericho has lived with hate for the society (Knights of the Dragon) for as long as he can remember, and now he wants a war. Kill the leader and a war will definitely start. His target is simple ….

Poor Karina can’t remember who she is and how she got here. (A car accident has given her amnesia) But looking at the man in front of her, she knows she is safe with him.

He isn’t happy, his dragon half has claimed this bloody enemy as its mate, and once a mate is chosen, he can’t harm her….

Jericho needs to distrust Karina, she is his sworn enemy, but looking at her he sees another side to her, maybe she isn’t the evil that he thinks she is, but he can’t get past his hatred of the society. He’s suppose to kill her and start a war.

And what happens if and when Karina regains her memory, will she be able to look past the dragon to see the man? Or will she see the killer of her family and friends? Or will she use the fact his dragon can’t kill her and gain information for the society?

Again another good story, plenty of action and suspense. The characters weren’t as good as some of the other stories I’ve read. Karina felt a little one dimensional and I didn’t really connect with Jericho.

Until one particular bridezilla walks into the stationery store who’s fiancé happens to be the boy Caroline shared her first kiss with. Alexander Wilder is all grown up now, helping run his family’s successful luxury hotel chain, and is somehow even better looking than she remembers.

When Caroline just happens to catch Alex’s fiancée half naked with another man well, of course she has to tell Alex. Of course, he breaks off his engagement.

At least Caroline has her friends to save her from crazy ex-fiancées. But she also has the sudden interest of…Alex? Caroline knows they share a connection, but is he on the rebound? Or after seeing her all these years later, does he really want something more?

•••••••••

REVIEW: SAVE THE DATE is the first instalment in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, adult, romance series. This is twenty-five year old, stationary salesperson Caroline Abbott, and twenty-eight year old, billionaire hotelier Alexander Wilder’s storyline.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Alex and Caroline) SAVE THE DATE follows the second chance romance (of sorts) between Caroline Abbott, and Alexander Wilder. Caroline works for a local stationary store, NOTEWORTHY, and her latest wedding client is none other than her ‘first kiss’ Alexander Wilder, her brother’s childhood friend, and the man with whom she will fall in love. Alexander seems oblivious to his fiancé ‘s actions, including the affair discovered by our story line heroine. As Alex prepares for a trip overseas, our hero is informed, by his father and company CEO he needs a ‘fake fiancé ‘ to improve his image as he negotiates the purchase of new property. With his fiancé no longer in the picture, Alex offers Caroline a trip to Paris in an effort to secure his business negotiations. What ensues is the building relationship between Alex and Caroline, and the potential fall-out as Alex struggles with the possibility of sabotage at a personal level.

The relationship between Alex and Caroline is a rekindling romance between two people who were one another’s first kiss, a first kiss where shortly afterward Alex ghosted our story line heroine. Years later Caroline will come face to face with her childhood crush only to discover Alex was engaged to someone else. The limited $ex scenes are passionate and seductive, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text but I struggled with the lack of perceived palpable sexual chemistry.

We are introduced to Alex’s former fiancé Tiffany Ratcliffe, and his father Mr.Wilder; Caroline’s boss Iris, co-worker Cassie, and best friend Stella; and French businessman Alain Descheaux and his wife Sabine, as well as their son Louis, and his wife Manon.

SAVE THE DATE is a story of family, friendship, second chances and love; a story of perception, power, and wealth. The premise is engaging and inviting; the romance is tender and suggestive; the characters are captivating and colorful. SAVE THE DATE is a energetic and spirited story of fated love.

I head straight for the pickup counter, where I see my skinny vanilla latte waiting for me, my name written on the side of the cup in Stella’s familiar scrawl. Without hesitation I grab it, inhaling deeply before I take a sip. Just a tiny sip so I can savor it. I close my eyes for a second, maybe two, and when I open them, I find a guy standing there.
Watching me.
And he’s not just any guy. He’s cute. Wait, no. Not cute. He’s…hot. Dark hair. Blue eyes. Wearing a suit that fits him perfectly. I know just from looking at the fabric that it’s custom. Expensive.
He’s smiling at me. And I’m scowling at him in return because the caffeine hasn’t quite hit my bloodstream yet, so I’m not on top of my game.
“You looked like you were having a moment.” His voice is deep. Rich. His face…vaguely familiar?
I stand a little straighter. Take another sip of my coffee as I contemplate the man in front of me, because for some reason I still can’t come up with anything to say.
Listen, I always have something to say. But this guy. This gorgeous, well-dressed maybe-stranger, is leaving me a little…
Dumbstruck?
Huh.
“That moment you were just having. With your coffee,” he continues, gesturing at the cup I’m clutching in both of my hands, like it’s my baby. Which this morning—every morning—it is.
“She loves coffee,” Stella says from behind me.
Glancing over my shoulder, I give her a look, one that says shush.
“I can see that.” The amusement in his voice is obvious. He thinks it’s funny. The sacred moment I was having with my latte made him smile.
I wouldn’t mind coming up with other ways to make him smile.
Whoa. Where did that thought come from?
“What I want to know is, how did you get such special treatment?”
I blink at him like I’m an uncomprehending idiot. “Excuse me?”
“Well, I’ve been here for the last fifteen minutes. First, standing in line.” He gestures at the line of customers that trails out the door. “And now, waiting for my order.”
Guilt fills me. Just a tiny bit. Sweet Dreams Café is the most popular bakery and coffee shop in Carmel-by-the-Sea. All the tourists love it. All the locals love it too. It’s been in Stella’s family for generations.
“Yet you skip past the line, walk straight in here and grab your ready-made drink within a few seconds of your arrival. Do you have a Fast Pass?” A brow lifts, and I’m hit with a quiver. Like Cupid just drew back his bow and shot that arrow right in my heart.
Or perhaps that arrow struck me in, ahem, other places.
Who knew a brow lift could be so sexy?

When following a clue leads her to Zane, she agrees to work with him and his team. She’s attracted to the gorgeous Brit, but she doesn’t have time for anything but finding answers.

When Zane and Alyssa discover the sinister truth, it’ll take everything they have to make it out of this mission with their lives―and hearts―intact.

Review:

Wolf Instinct by Paige Tyler is the 9th book in her wonderful SWAT series. I am a big fan of this series, as Tyler always gives us exciting stories that are pulse pounding action, with a great couple, and the hot men (werewolves) that make up the Alpha Swat team. Wolf Instinct was another wonderful romance suspense that Tyler does so well.

Zane Kendrick, our hero, is a member of the Dallas Swat team, and on assignment with two other members to Los Angeles looking for someone attacking werewolves.  Zane does not believe he will ever find the ‘One’ that some of his mates have found, but when he meets an FBI agent who helps him stave off an attack, his instinct senses something different about her.

Alyssa Carson, our heroine, has been working as a hunter to discover the reason why many deaths on different cases, were drained of their blood, seeming to be the work of animals (or monster).  She was a great kick-ass heroine, who not only was smart, tough, savvy, but also preferring to work as a loner.  But when Alyssa meets Zane, she realizes that they seem to be working on similar cases, and decides to work with him.

Zane quickly knows that Alyssa is the ‘One’, but he also feels that because of her FBI job and hunting, she may not be willing to become his mate.  However, the chemistry between them heats up fast and furious, as they not only made a great team, but a hot one.  How will Alyssa react when she finds out that Zane is a werewolf?

What follows is an exciting action-packed adventure that will tie in both cases, which Zane and Alyssa are investigating.  The story line escalates when they discover that vampires are behind a major organization and the ensuing deaths.  Alyssa finds it difficult to believe that vampires exist, but when lives are at stake, and Zane calls in help from the Dallas Swat members, she will call in the FBI for help against a powerful enemy. As we raced to the exciting suspenseful climax, we held our breaths as to who will survive.

What I love about this series is not only the suspense and action-packed story; but Paige Tyler always gives us a wonderful sexy couple.  Zane and Alyssa had sizzling chemistry, and were great together

The last 1/3 of the book was very exciting; I was unable to put the book down.  I loved Zane and Alyssa; and I also like Zane’s two partners, whom I hope we get to learn more about them in future stories.

Paige Tyler does it again with another intense, intriguing, fun and sexy story,  and as always Tyler manages to keep the story in the forefront, and still give us a beautiful sexy romance. Wolf Instinct is another fabulous addition to this series.  If you have not started this series, I suggest you do so, as it is a fun, exciting and sexy read and Paige Tyler is an author you need to be reading.

I just need to keep my heart in check while I do it.

REVIEW: THE KISS PLOT is the second instalment in Nicole French’s contemporary, adult QUICKSILVER erotic, romance trilogy focusing on newlyweds, attorney and billionaire heir to the De Vries Dynasty Eric de Vries, and attorney Jane Lee Lefferts-de Vries. THE KISS PLOT should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one THE HATE VOW.

Told from first person perspective (Jane) and third person (Eric) THE KISS PLOT follows in the aftermath and fall-out of Jane and Eric’s wedding, a wedding stunt manipulated by the family matriarch, meant to secure Eric’s future within the company, but a wedding crashed by a secret society intent on controlling the de Vries’ dynasty. What ensues is Eric’s battle to protect the woman he loves, as he tries to navigate the threat to his life, and the life of our story line heroine.

THE KISS PLOT is a story of power and control; a look at the oligarchy of big business, the circulation of elites, and the political machine; and one family as they battle to secure their freedom from the people in charge. Nicole French pulls the reader into an emotional, heart breaking and disturbing look at two hundred years of domination, influence, and threats by a secretive sect determined to control the world.

Nicole French is a East Coast/West Coast hybrid creature, Springsteen fanatic, hopeless romantic, and total bookworm. When not writing fiction or teaching writing classes, she is hanging out with her family, playing soccer with the rest of the thirty-plus crowd in Seattle, or going on dates with her husband. In her spare time, she likes to go running with her dog, Greta, or practice the piano, but never seems to do either one of these things as much as she should.
