ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 17, 2019.

When I walk into a room, people look twice. Once because I’m the Crown Prince of Androvia, and twice because I’m that guy—the one who makes your panties wet with just a smile. My life is grand until the unexpected death of my father. To claim the throne, I’ve got to find a wife in twenty-four hours or be forced to marry the woman who cheated on me.

A chance encounter with the daughter of my sworn enemy changes everything. The first time I saw her, she was chained to a dungeon wall. The second time I saw her, I took her to my bed. The third time, I proposed marriage. If she accepts, I’ll rule her body the same way I intend to rule my kingdom—with an iron hand and no mercy. The stakes are high for both of us. If she turns me down, I could lose the throne to my traitorous uncle. Even worse, if she accepts, I might lose my heart.

REVIEW: How have I never read Jeana E. Mann before?! A deep drama, dark romance with character just as intense and interesting than the cover itself.

Crown Prince of Androvia, Henry is everything you would expect in a prince. Handsome, rich, and lustfully hot. On a special trip to the States, Henry meets the elusive Everly at, none other than, a up-scale ultra-exclusive sex club.

The connection and spark between these two set the book pages on fire! The kicker in this is Everly is not just an everyday, normal woman. No. She is the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. An evil, vile man who will stop at nothing to get power, and sacrifice everything to meet his end goal.

Henry wants Everly as much as he wants his next breath of air, and the dominant in him desires her in a way he has never felt before. Everly’s life is drama, danger, and more drama, but she craves a life of freedom and protection.

This was such an amazing romantic suspense story that I could really sink my teeth into. While there is BDSM play and other such moments, what I loved most was the connection between the characters. You can feel what they are going through, the drama, the internal struggle. Jeana weaves a story web that any reader would love to get snared in.

He picks me up by the waist, pushing me into the wall behind us, crashing me into the paneling. I wrap a leg around his hip and grind against the steel rod inside his trousers. A primeval growl rumbles from his lips. Hot, wet kisses trail down the column of my neck. I dig my fingers into his short hair.

“I take it things didn’t work out between you and your wank of a boyfriend.” He slips the straps of my gown over my shoulders, baring me to the waist, trapping my arms with the delicate fabric. The breath behind his words burns against my collarbone.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 17, 2019.

Working at Bliss Lingerie, Sarah Harrison deals with all sorts of—interesting clientele. Yet no one sparks her interest more than Jared Gaines, the ultra-rich, ultra-sexy businessman who frequents her shop, buying delicate little “gifts” for the women in his life.

But one day, Jared sends her a gift from Bliss. Then another—and another. So when Sarah walks into his office demanding to know why he can’t stop sending her gifts, he makes her an offer she somehow can’t refuse: be his fake girlfriend for the weekend while attending his brother’s engagement party.

Next thing Sarah knows, she’s in San Francisco, pretending to be in love with Jared. Not that it’s a hardship. Once you get the man away from the office, he’s much more relaxed. Sweet. Funny. Even…thoughtful? Oh, and sexier than ever, of course.

Their pretend relationship feels very real, very quickly. Soon Sarah’s in over her head. Could what she and Jared share turn into something real? Or is it all actually…fake?

•••••••••

REVIEW: FAKE DATE is the second instalment in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, adult DATING romance series. This is thirty four year old, acquisitions billionaire Jared Gaines, and twenty four year old, lingerie sales clerk Sarah Harrison’s story line. FAKE DATE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jared and Sarah) FAKE DATE focuses on the building relationship between thirty four year old, acquisitions billionaire Jared Gaines, and twenty four year old, lingerie sales clerk Sarah Harrison. For close to six months Sarah Harrison has been the go-to personal shopper for businessman Jared Gaines, a man whose taste in lingerie is exquisite and expensive. Believing Jared is nothing more than a manwh*re with numerous mistresses Sarah remains overly professional in the face of her unwanted attraction to a man she doesn’t like. When gifts of lingerie, expensive shoes and flowers arrive at Sarah’s door, our heroine battles between head and heart believing Jared is treating her no better than the women he leaves behind but Jared need a plus-one for his brother’s engagement party, and Sarah is the perfect woman for the job. What ensues is the fake girlfriend but building romance and relationship between Sarah and Jared, and the potential fall –out when Jared’s secrets all but destroy Sarah’s faith in a possible happily ever after.

Jared Gaines doesn’t do relationships; having been burned in the past, Jared refuses to fall in love, having hardened his heart to romance and love. Meeting Sarah Harrison sparks something deep within our story line hero, something Jared struggles to accept or acknowledge. Sarah Harrison has raised her younger brother and sister since the death of their parents four years earlier. Having spent no time on herself Sarah battles with Jared’s offer of a fake relationship knowing that her heart has already started to fall for the man who struggles with family and friends. Watching Jared falter with basic social skills, Sarah quickly discovers that Jared has closed himself off from said family and friends.

Jared’s personality and actions will be difficult to accept for many romance readers. Oft-times immature and cold, Jared struggles with ordinary and everyday social encounters including his treatment of our story line heroine. Demanding and petulant, almost child-like in nature, Jared steps over the line on one too many occasions, and Sarah must remind him about his poor behaviour, and treatment of other people, and herself.

The relationship between Jared and Sarah begins as a business arrangement wherein Sarah becomes Jared’s personal shopper at Bliss Lingerie. Jared’s attraction to Sarah finds our hero ‘using’ Sarah to ‘shop’ for his many ‘women’, only for Sarah to discover that she has been the only woman for several months. The $ex scenes are passionate and intimate but mostly implied, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Sarah’s sister Andie, and their brother Brent; and Sarah’s co-worker Bethany, and boss Marlo; Jared’s brother Kevin and his fiancée Rochelle, their sister Candice, their father Marcus Gaines, and his wife Mitzi. We are reintroduced to Sarah’s friends: Caroline Abbott ( Save the Date #1), Stella, and Kelsey.

FAKE DATE is a story of family, grief, acceptance and love. The premise is entertaining; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic but Jared’s actions and behavior are questionable and problematic.

“Mr. Gaines,” I say, pasting on my best customer smile when he lifts his gaze to mine.
His dark brown eyes flash with an unfamiliar gleam and my breath catches in the back of my throat. “Back so soon, I see.”
“You know I can’t resist you, Miss Harrison.” His smile is slow. Wolfish, if that’s really
a thing. I read it in a romance novel once, thought it was kind of silly, but right now, it’s working for Jared.
His entire demeanor right now reminds me of a predatory creature. His face is all hard lines—stern, straight nose, granite jaw, sharp cheekbones, steely eyes. Yet his mouth, his lips are soft. Full. Lush.
Kissable.
Shaking my head at the wayward thought, I return his smile, trying my best to remain
polite. Professional.
“Is there anything in particular you’re looking for this afternoon?” I’m surprised by how steady my voice is, considering I feel like my insides are sloshing back and forth, like I’m on a boat in the middle of the ocean.
“You don’t have anything pulled aside for my appointment?” He raises a single brow, the expression on his face practically daring me to say no.
Well, guess what? I’m about to say it.
“No, I didn’t pull anything aside.” I shrug when he glares at me. “You never told me the nature of your visit.”
He glances about, making sure no one is around, I’d assume. And lucky for him, there’s no one in the store currently. It’s the middle of the week, early afternoon. We normally don’t get too many customers at this time.
We are the only two people in here. Even Marlo has disappeared.
“Perhaps you can show me some of your newer items,” he suggests.
“I can do that.” All new arrivals are at the front of the store, so we’re in the right spot. I lead him to a table showcasing our latest bra and panty design. “Celestial is the theme for spring into summer.”
I point to the bras made of thin, sheer netting and pink silk, tiny pale pink stars stitched in a scattered pattern across the tulle fabric. They leave nothing to the imagination, and the panties are the same.
“They hide nothing.” He holds up a pair of brief-cut panties, turning them this way and that. Every time he holds underwear in those big hands of his, I melt a little inside. I don’t know why he affects me like this.
“You’re right. They don’t,” I agree, grabbing a thong and flipping it over to the thin
string of lace that makes up the backside. “But they’re terribly sweet.”
“Sweet?”
I glance up to find him watching me. “Sweet yet sexy,” I counter, my cheeks going hot
from the way he’s studying me so carefully.
“You like the celestial theme?”
I nod. Press my lips together so I don’t say something I regret. Like, I love this theme, or Do you want me to model the panties for you?
Yeah. That’s a bad idea.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 17, 2019

One Woman begins where One Man ended, with Emma one step from death and Jax the only man who can save her.

••••••••••

REVIEW: ONE WOMAN is the second instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult NAKED erotic, romantic suspense trilogy focusing on thirty-four year old, billionaire financial planner for North Whiskey Jax North, and twenty-eight year old hotel heiress Emma Knight. ONE WOMAN should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one ONE MAN.

Told from dual first person perspectives ( Jax and Emma) ONE WOMAN continues to focus on the search for the truth. In the aftermath of Emma’s father’s death, and the perceived suicide of Jax’s brother Hunter, Jax and Emma struggle to come to terms with what happened and why. While Emma’s brother Chance is desperate to keep Emma away from Jax North, there are other players in the game whose sole purpose is to destroy our leading couple. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Jax and Emma, and that potential fall-out as Emma’s past, Chance’s business partners, and Jax’s family push at the proverbial envelope in an effort to tear our couple apart.

The relationship between Jax and Emma is sexually erotic, sensual and vulnerable. Emma must put her trust in a man who, in the beginning, targeted our heroine for the death of his brother; and Jax must come to terms with his attraction and growing love for the daughter of the man out to destroy them all. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and intense.

ONE WOMAN is a story of family, betrayal, and vengeance; power, money and control. The premise is engrossing, intelligent and spicy; the romance is provocative; the characters are strong and edgy. Rick Savage returns as part of the Walker Security Team-Savage’s story begins with Savage Hunger in December 2019. ONE WOMAN ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

Jax’s jaw tenses, he cuts his stare, and that says all I need to know. “What are we doing Jax?” I demand. “We’re poison to each other.” I turn away and charge toward the bedroom, and I don’t stop at the door. I already found my suitcase and took it to the bathroom. I had to brush my teeth because I imagined myself kissing Jax. I imagined all these wonderful things with him, but that can’t happen now.

I hurry through the room, and I’ve made it halfway to the bathroom, just past the bed, when Jax catches my arm. Heat rushes up my arm, and it’s not all about anger. It’s about this man touching me. It’s about this man and how much I want him, how much I even feel as if want has transformed to need. I whirl around, intent to confront him, but I fail. He drags me against him, all those hard muscles absorbing all the softer parts of me, and the words linger on my tongue, but never leave my mouth.

“What are we doing?” he demands, and he doesn’t give me time to reply. “This.” His mouth closes down on mine, and I try to fight, no, I tell myself to fight, to push back, to save myself before I go down and never find my way back up. But I don’t fight. I don’t even try to save myself.

His mouth closes down on mine, and the taste of him, all man and demand, undoes me. I sink into his big, powerful body, as my tongue meets his. I’m all in, kissing him like there is no tomorrow, and maybe there isn’t, maybe there can’t be, but right now, right now, I reject that idea. I drink him in the way he’s drinking me in until his mouth is gone, his breath a warm whisper, as he says, “That. Over and over again, with no end I want to imagine. We’re not bad for each other. We’re not poison. Say it. We’re not poison.”

But I can’t say it.

How can I say what I’m not sure I believe?

Love on Lexington Avenue by Lauren Layne – Reviews, Excerpt & Giveaway

Description:
There are no good men left in New York City. At least that’s Claire Hayes’s conviction after finding out her late husband was not the man she thought he was. Determined to rid her home of anything that reminds her of her cheating husband, Claire sets out to redesign her boring, beige Upper East Side brownstone and make it something all her own. But what starts out as a simple renovation becomes a lot more complicated when she meets her bad-tempered and rough-around-the-edges contractor Scott Turner.

Scott bluntly makes it known to Claire that he only took on her house for a change of pace from the corporate offices and swanky hotels he’s been building lately, and he doesn’t hesitate to add that he has no patience for a pampered, damaged princess with a penchant for pink. But when long workdays turn into even longer nights, their mutual wariness morphs into something more complicated—a grudging respect, and maybe even attraction…

Sandy’s Review:
LOVE ON LEXINGTON AVENUE is the second instalment in Lauren Layne’s contemporary, adult CENTRAL PARK PACT romance series focusing on three friends: Naomi Powell, Audrey Tate and Claire Hayes-three woman who would discover there were all in a relationship with the same man. This is thirty-five year old, widow Claire Hayes, and renovator Scott Turner’s story line. LOVE ON LEXINGTON AVENUE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalment is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading book one PASSION ON PARK AVENUE for back story and history.

SOME BACKGROUND: Approximately one year earlier, Claire Hayes, newly widowed discovered that her husband of seven years was having numerous affairs including affairs with the two women who would become her best friends. The Central Park Pact was an agreement to never let one another fall for a womanizer like the man with whom they had all fallen in love.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Claire and Scott) LOVE ON LEXINGTON AVENUE follows Claire Hayes, one year after the death of her philandering husband. Having just turned thirty-five years old, wanting something new in her life, Claire decides to renovate her Lexington Avenue home with the recommendation of her new best friend Naomi Powell. Enter contractor/renovator Scott Turner, and the man with whom Claire would fall in love. What ensues is the acrimonious but building relationship between Claire and Scott, and the potential fall-out as the renovations to Claire’s home, come to a close.

Scott Turner never expected Claire Hayes- a smart-mouthed, young widow who struggles with her place in the world. Not one to do relationships, Scott finds himself attraction to Claire Hayes, but a ‘friends with benefits’ relationship is all he is willing to offer. Having been burned in the past, Scott isn’t willing to lose his heart to anyone else. Claire Hayes has struggled with what happened and why. Having turned what could have been a disaster into a triple friendship with the other women scorned by her cheating husband, Claire battles her attraction to Scott knowing their time together comes with a deadline.. Believing herself too vanilla and boring, Claire begins to step out of her comfort zone with the help of the man with whom she will fall in love. The $ex scenes are all implied.

We are reintroduced to Naomi Powell, and her significant other Oliver Cunningham (Passion on Park Avenue #1), Audrey Tate and her best friend Clarke West.

LOVE ON LEXINGTON AVENUE is a story of friendships, support, struggle and love. The premise is engaging and energetic; the romance is passionate and sweet; the characters are a little broken, colorful and fun.

Barb’s Review:

Love on Lexington Avenue by Lauren Layne is the 2nd book in her Central Park Pact series. I really enjoyed the first book of this series, and the wonderful friendship between the three heroines of this series.  I am happy to say that I enjoyed Love on Lexington Avenue as much as I did in the first book.

Claire Hayes, our heroine in this book, is the wife of the deceased man each of the ladies bonded over. Claire is determined to change the design of her brownstone home, which continues to remind her of her cheating late husband.  Claire thinks she is boring and living a vanilla life, even if her two friends who have become very supportive of each other tell her differently.  A brief refresher:  Naomi, our last book heroine, was one of Claire’s husband’s mistresses and Audrey, was another.  All three support each other to make sure none of them fall for a man like their “ex”.

Scott Turner, our hero, is the contractor who will change the home (he is friend to Naomi’s boyfriend); both of them get off on the wrong foot when they first meet.  Scott comes across as short tempered, arrogant and negative on any ideas that Claire might have. Claire learns that he is considered one of the best and most successful contractors worldwide, and decides to allow him to make changes, as well as give back the same attitude to him.  The banter between them was really good, even if Scott was rude to her at times.  But soon after they begin to work together, they both begin to feel the attraction to each other, even if they are determined to ignore it; especially Scott who enjoys spending time with other women, with no commitments.   Claire decides that she wants to go out and see if she can flirt with a guy, and approaches Scott to help her pick a man for a one-night stand; she wants to feel sexy again.

Scott will take her to a bar, but begins to feel jealousy when other men come on to her.  Claire begins to see another side to the grumpy Scott, and slowly falls hard for him.  They will give in to their sexual tension between them, with the knowledge that there is no future.  Best laid plans do not always work out. lol

Love on Lexington Avenue was a sweet, fun, slow burn romance that was so very well done by Layne.  I loved Claire and Scott over time.  I adored the fantastic friendship between Claire, Naomi and Audrey, with each of them going out of there way to be supportive and help them past their grief, anger and just being there for each other.

The story was very well written by Lauren Layne, with the fantastic concept of these women who did not know each other in the beginning but became the best of friends; and Layne also has created some wonderful secondary characters.   Love on Lexington Avenue was a fun story, with lots of charisma, and I cannot wait for Audrey’s story next.  I suggest you read this series, and start with the first book, Passion on Park Avenue.

SATURDAY, JULY 21It would have been downright tacky to say so out loud, but anyone who was anyone in New York City knew that the funeral of Brayden Daniel Hayes was the social event of the summer.
Not because Brayden was at the top of Manhattan’s A-list.
He’d been more on the periphery, the type of guy who was in the solar system but was a forgettable moon, orbiting around someone else’s more impressive planet. Brayden had money, but not big money. He’d been on the attractive side of average, but still average. Well-liked, but not adored.
For most of his relatively short adult life, Brayden Hayes had been solidly in the oh yeah, that guy category of society. The type who came and went through life without causing much of a blip.
Except, of course, if the way one left said life was an accidental drowning.
At the age of thirty-five.
With two empty bottles of sauvignon blanc rolling around one’s sailboat. To say nothing of the rumors of what he’d been doing before he’d set sail. Or who he’d been doing.
That kind of death could catapult just about anyone to Page Six for the season.
And so, on a sunny afternoon in July, Manhattan’s elite sat in Central Presbyterian Church on Park and Sixty-Fourth, their expressions the perfect masks of somber respect, even as they quietly exaggerated their closeness to the deceased.
Did you hear? He’d just accepted my dinner party invitation the day before they found him. I should have known something was up. When we caught up just last week, he wasn’t at all himself. He and I dated once, years ago. I can’t help but think what might have been . . .
Others had never met the man, and so merely gossiped amongst themselves, wondering if the rumors were true that his body had been found naked. If it was true that it was an NYU undergrad who’d called the Coast Guard when he hadn’t met her at the dock as they’d planned.
But at the heart of all the hissed whispers beneath black hats and somber suits was one delicious, looming question mark.
Where was Claire Hayes?
As it turned out, not everyone was at Brayden’s funeral.
In the front pew of the church, where Brayden’s family sat stoically listening to placid words of a life ended too soon, a prime front-row seat stayed conspicuously, shockingly vacant.
Even as the theories on why reached a fever pitch, three women who’d only just met sat a mere few blocks away on a bench in Central Park, having two vital things in common:

1. Matching Louboutins.
2. A very intimate connection to Brayden Hayes.

And so, as strangers who’d barely known the man began filing out of the church, murmuring plans of mimosas and imminent returns to Hamptons vacation homes, these three women who knew him better than anyone were making a very different sort of plan altogether.
The wife.
The girlfriend.
The mistress.
They had a pact.
To never, ever let one another fall for a womanizer like Brayden Hayes again.

His eyes have the power to undo all the hurt caused by my family.

“Don’t let them see you cry.”

After months of refusing I finally agree to move to America, where my fiancé’s waiting for me.
Just like my mother, an arranged marriage lies in my near future.
Just like my mother, I’m probably going to be shoved aside in a couple of years after providing the Cutler family with an heir.

Being a Korean girl from a culture that’s very different from the west, it makes me stand out like a sore thumb. There’s nothing I can do but to accept the fate arranged by my father and his mistress. My marriage to Lake Cutler will be a business deal and nothing else.

My plan is simple.
Make him hate me enough to break off the engagement, so I can return to Korea.

But I didn’t account for those caring brown eyes.

What started as a mission to save myself from an unhappy arranged marriage soon turns into a battle to not lose my heart.

I dare him to walk away, but instead, he shows me any bridge can be crossed.

REVIEW:Lake by Michelle Heard is book three in the Trinity Academy Series. Lake Cutler, Falcon Reyes, and Mason Chargill are best friends since childhood. They are the heir apparents to CRC Holdings and the gods of Trinity Academy. Trinity Academy is an elite school for only the extremely wealthy. Lake and his friends have everyone’s utmost respect. They should – their grandfathers started Trinity Academy. And this is their last year before joining the legacy of their fore fathers. Lake Cutler has an agreement with his two best friends. At the end of the school year – Mason will take his place as President of CRC Holdings, Falcon will start a new business, and Lake will complete the business deal by marrying a wealthy investors daughter from Korea.

Lake has never met Lee-Ann Park but he is willing to do his part and marry her to secure the three friends financial futures.

Lee-Ann was sixteen years old and working two jobs while going to school, to help her mom make ends meet. When she is called home one day by her mother, she meets the man her mother says is her father, Chairman Park. Her mother has been allowed to raise her for sixteen years and her father Chairman Park, has just shown up to let her know that when she turns eighteen she will marry Lake Cutler, in America, whether she likes it or not. Using Lee-Ann’s mother as leverage, Chairman Park and his mistress have only one goal, making this marriage work for their own financial benefit. Lee-Ann does as she is asked for the sake of her mother. And after spending several months in contact with Lake, she makes the trip to America to finally meet him.

Lee-Ann has one goal – to make Lake hate her enough to call off the wedding so she can return to her mother in Korea. She has no idea she will be met with the most kindest of souls in Lake Cutler. And she quickly falls for her future husband.

Lake Cutler will do anything for his best friends. Even agree to an arranged marriage. He has spent the last several months preparing to meet his future wife. He texts with her and once a week they video chat. But he can’t stop the strange feeling that is eating away at him that something seems off. But he will do everything in his power to make Lee-Ann comfortable and feel safe when she is with him. Lee-Ann is a shy character who amazingly adjusted quite quickly to life in the United States. I enjoyed her experiencing new things and adjusting to her life that has taken a drastic turn. The only downfall was that the book felt rushed.

I enjoyed the relationship between Lake and Lee-Ann, I also loved how the other characters welcomed her into their lives. But it happened very quickly. I wish it would have taken more time to develop all the relationships. You can feel the love between Lake and Lee-Ann grow and I look forward to hopefully reading more about all the characters in the future.

I hope there is follow up books for all of the characters on where their lives take them. Because they are the type of characters you are just never ready to put away!

Well worth the read and book three in the Trinity Academy series.

“Chairman Park would like to know when you’ll start working at CRC Holdings.”My eyes dart to Mr. Reyes, who responds for me, “Lake will only be active as a shareholder.”

When the secretary translates the answer, the boring lunch transforms into something I’ve only seen in a drama.

Mr. Park shakes his head hard, and with a loud voice, starts saying, “No. No. No!”

He begins to ramble in Korean, which has me leaning into Lee. “What is he saying?”

She glances at me then back at Mr. Park, but begins to whisper, “He says you have to join the company. He won’t invest unless you do. He feels his investment should be looked after by my husband.”

“That was not the arrangement,” Mr. Reyes says, his voice calm in comparison with Mr. Park’s.

When Mr. Park begins to speak again, Lee whispers, “He wants it added to the contract that you’ll work at CRC Holdings.”

Before Mr. Reyes can reply, I say, “With all due respect, this is my future we’re discussing. I’d like to say something.”

Every pair of eyes settles on me, but I look directly at Mr. Park, and for once, he can’t just glance over me. “Are you aware of the percentage of shares my family holds?”

“Chairman Park is adamant. He wants you working at CRC Holding, or he would rather have his daughter marry Chairman Reyes’ eldest son,” the secretary says.

I can’t keep the smile from forming around my lips as I shake my head. When I stand up, Mason and Falcon instantly rise to their feet as well. Locking eyes with Mr. Park, I say, “Decisions regarding CRC Holding’s future are all made in the boardroom, Mr. Park.”

I’m well aware of the fact that I just insulted him by not using his title, and I pause a moment for that knowledge to sink in.

“I hold thirty percent.” I gesture to Mason. “Mr. Chargill holds thirty percent.” And I bring my hand up, resting it on Falcon’s shoulder. “Mr. Reyes holds ten percent. That gives us an overwhelming seventy percent voting right. We are a package deal, and Mr. Chargill will be the one to join CRC Holding.”

Somehow the secretary managed to listen to me and translate at the same time.

Damn, I need to learn Korean, so I can tell this man to go to hell in his own language.

“The Chairman asks what is stopping him from offering his daughter to Mr. Chargill.”

I feel Mason’s anger to my left, and glancing at him, I smile. “I’ve got this.”

Taking a moment to gather my thoughts, I glance at Mr. Reyes first, and when he nods, my eyes go to Mr. Chargill. The corner of his mouth pulls up, and lastly, I look at my father.

“Speak your mind, son. I back whatever decision you make.”

I lock gazes with Mr. Park. “CRC Holding does not belong to one man. It belongs to three families. Out of the four sons, I am your only option.”

“What the Chairman needs to realize,” Mr. Reyes says, “is that the men in our families run CRC Holdings and have done so successfully for two generations. Our wives do not have a say in the business.”

I button my jacket, and I feel Falcon move the chair from where it’s right behind me. “Mr. Park.” I wait for him to look at me. “CRC Holdings will not be intimidated. Our foundation isn’t built on fear, it’s built on loyalty. Consider this before you insult me again. I might be the quiet one, but that doesn’t make me the weakest.”

REVIEW: DARK MEMENTO is the first instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary adult VERONA BAY romantic suspense series focusing on the town of Verona Bay, Florida. This is pet groomer /widow/ single mother Serenity Washington, and former Marine/construction worker Lucas Jordan’s story line.

Told from three third person perspectives (Serenity, Lucas, murderer) DARK MEMENTO focuses on Serenity Washington. Eight years earlier, Serenity and her twin sister Savannah had been abducted and tortured but Savannah did not survive. Having escaped the monster, Serenity would struggle with the loss of her twin, moving forward in life. Fast forward to present day wherein someone is stalking Serenity Washington, a potential copy cat killer, who is targeting the people in Serenity’s life. Lucas Jordan has lusted after Serenity Washington since his return to Verona Bay two years earlier. A chance meeting with Serenity would discover a mysterious ‘gift’ left behind on Serenity’s car, a gift that linked back to the abduction and murder of Serenity’s sister eight years earlier. What ensues are the ongoing threats to Serenity, and the people of Verona Bay; the building relationship and romance between Serenity and Lucas; and the fall-out as Serenity’s stalker begins to kill in an effort to get closer to our story line heroine.

The relationship between Serenity and Lucas is one of immediate attraction but Lucas suspects Serenity doesn’t have time for a relationship in the wake of her husband’s death, and raising a child on her own. With the threats against Serenity closer than anyone could have imagined, Lucas offers himself up as bodyguard and protector for Serenity and her daughter. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Verona Bay sheriff and Lucas’ brother Lincoln, their brother Easton, as well as their mother Louise Jordan; FBI Special Agent Amy Lin; Serenity’s daughter Harper, as well as several friends and townsfolk including Paisley, Carol, Chloe and Bianca.

The world building introduces the people and town of Verona Bay. The camaraderie, the friendships, the jealousy and the love.

DARK MEMENTO is a story of suspense, revenge and betrayal; family, friendship and love. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the romance is seductive and captivating; the characters are colorful and charismatic. DARK MEMENTO is a wonderful and exciting start to Katie Reus’ VERONA BAY romantic suspense series.

Rain slapped Serenity in the face as she raced through the woods. He was getting closer. Run. Run. Run.

Escape. Find help.

Lightning cracked, illuminating the forest. She let out a scream as he stepped up from behind a tree, his eyes wild and manic, his face elongated like a werewolf.

A scream caught in her throat as she turned and ran. Her feet slipped in the mud, propelling her forward.

Pain ripped through her skull as he grabbed the back of her hair.

“No!” She tried to scream but the word got stuck in her throat. Every time she tried to shout for help it came out as a whisper.

She fought against the mud and grass with her feet but kept slipping as he continued dragging her backward.

She wouldn’t go back there. She couldn’t go back there.

No.

Everything in front of her morphed and suddenly they were in that wretched cabin again.

He tossed her onto the floor, her palms slamming against the wood. Pain splintered through her, her heart racing out of control.

“Not done with you yet,” he growled, the sound inhuman.

Savannah sat on the table now, blood pouring from all of her wounds, her skin a grayish color.

“You should have run faster.” Her sister’s words were disembodied.

Serenity shook her head. This wasn’t real. It couldn’t be. She’d escaped. She wasn’t still stuck here.

“Be careful,” her sister whispered. “There is danger on the horizon.”

“What?” She stared at her sister in horror. She couldn’t seem to get up, couldn’t seem to make her limbs obey her. To move. To run.

“Run!” her sister screamed.

Her eyes opened with a start.

A nightmare. Just another nightmare. Though this one was different than before.

He’d never brought her back to the cabin.

Despite being soaked in sweat, a chill snaked through her, making her tremble. It was just a nightmare, she reminded herself. Nothing more.

She couldn’t be back in that cabin, stuck in hell.

Review:

For Better or For Wolf by A.E. Jones is the 4th book in her Paranormal Wedding Planners series.  I’ve read the three previous books in this series and loved them, so I couldn’t wait to see how book four turns out …..

Olivia is a psychiatrist, but things from her past have turned her into a bit of a control freak. She doesn’t have time for love, but she does have time for others. She likes to put things in order and helping others helps restore the order of things.

Connor is part of an unofficial law enforcement team tasked with making sure paranormals didn’t kill each other or, if they do, then don’t let the humans know about it. The humans aren’t suppose to know the paranormals exist. (Half of his team we’ve met in previous books)

When Olivia finds out that there is “other” beings besides humans in the world, her “ordered” world starts to crumble, but Olivia pulls herself together and says yes to helping the werewolf pack, and wouldn’t you know it, the first supernatural she meets is Connor (but she didn’t know he was a werewolf at the time, she threw a drink in his face after mistaking him for another person!!)

Connor can’t wait to hunt down the woman who threw a drink in his face, but work comes first, and going into the building he works as security for (the wedding business in book one) the last person he expects to see is the young lady who drowned him in a Pina colada!!!

Connor acts as a bodyguard for Olivia, he’s there to protect her whilst she works with the werewolf pack, (the alpha is entering an arranged marriage with a rival pack)  but there is something about her that intrigues both the man and wolf, but Connor doesn’t do relationships, he’s all for one night stands and good times, but as he spends more time with Olivia, he might just have to change his opinion.

We also have the matter of Sullivan (the new pack alpha,) he’s been shot, who and why? That’s what Connor aims to find out whilst he’s here. (Connor and his twin were banished by the old alpha, apparently twin wolf cubs are a reason to celebrate!!) But the new alpha wants them back in the pack.

The one liners in this book are snappy and quick, the interaction with previous couples was a nice touch. It had odd moments of hilarity and a few touching and tender moments. An excellent addition the the series.
