***Destiny’s Dark Light is a M/F paranormal romance featuring star-crossed lovers, witches, Southern flair, mild sexual content, and violence.***

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: DESTINY’S DARK LIGHT by Sara Dobie Bauer is a contemporary, adult, paranormal romance story line focusing on Cyan Burroughs, a white witch (Loach) whose birth has been prophesied to save the world in a battle with the dreaded Dorcha, a dark and powerful sorcerer.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Cyan and Liam) DESTINY’S DARK LIGHT follows Cyan as she struggles with her destiny. As a seer, Cyan’s aunt Sybil paints the future, and the future reveals the man with whom Cyan will fall in love. But all does not go according to plan as Cyan’s powers have yet to reveal, and the man with whom she will fall in love, is in love with somebody else. An fatal trolley accident reveals powerful sources at work, power that will release Cyan’s dormant magic, bringing the Dorcha into his very own powers, thus beginning the War to destroy them all.

Liam. Cody has just lost the love of his life to a tragic trolley accident but when his best friend suggests there may be magic and witches in modern day Charleston, Liam soon discovers that not everything or everyone in his life is as it appears to be. Enter Cyan Burroughs, the woman with whom Liam will fall in love, a white witch whose family magic reveal more than anyone could have imagined.

The relationship between Cyan and Liam is one prophesied by fate but there is always a fine line between good vs evil; light vs dark. Liam believes he is in love with somebody else but Cyan finds herself falling for a man she barely knows. I struggled with the relationship especially as it pertains to Cyan’s immediate and intense love for a man she never knew but a man who has been prophesied to be her fated love. Cyan’s attraction was instant; her love was immediate, and in this there is little to no build up or angst of attraction, want and need. The palpable desire is missing; there is no passion or seduction.

DESTINY’S DARK LIGHT is a story of magic, power, witches and love. Liam Cody is a man who is unaware that his destiny has been foretold, a dark and dangerous destiny that threatens the woman with whom he will fall in love. Cyan Burroughs knows she must destroy the Dorcha before the Dorcha destroys everyone she loves, but can Cyan kill the man who stirs something deep within our story line heroine. The premise is intriguing; the characters are colorful and energetic. An entertaining and interesting story line that faltered with a lack of passion and angst between our leading couple.

Goodreads

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 18, 2019

New York, 1955. Former socialite Henrietta (“Rhett”) Bishop, destitute after her father gambles away the family fortune, takes a job at Redclaw Security. But Redclaw is no ordinary operation. Part detective firm and part enforcement agency, Redclaw regulates matters involving the growing population of shifters who have emerged since the onset of the nuclear age.

Peter Knight is a nuclear scientist shattered by the death of his wife. Blacklisted by the government and scientific organizations, he drowns his sorrows while searching for the people behind his wife’s murder.

When Rhett is assigned to recruit Knight, their meeting is more than either bargained for—a rival organization will do anything to secure Knight for themselves. Following a lead to locate a missing cache of alien technology stolen from Redclaw, Rhett is thrown back into her previous glittering life with Knight as her pretend boyfriend. But when someone from the past turns up to start a bidding war on the artifacts, Bishop and Knight wind up in a fight for their very lives.

•••••••••

REVIEW: This book is before the first book ( The Panther’s Lost Princess ….Redclaw Security book 1) It tells of how the Rhett finds out that it’s more than “just” a detective/security firm.

Rhett has been a social outcast and has been ever since her father lost the family fortune, (well he didn’t really lose it, he was laundering money, and when found out, he committed suicide) and other jobs haven’t lasted long, so she needs this and will type all day long if she has to.

Rhett (or Henrietta) comes to terms with the fact there are things out there that the “humans” don’t need to know about. (After seeing a few odd things, and then rescuing her co-worker from a “snarling and hairy man” her boss Ryker tests her and declares her a success!! And so Rhett becomes an agent.

So Rhett’s first assignment is to find (and possibly recruit) the nuclear scientist, Peter Knight. Redclaw has worked out that the nuclear age is triggering dormant genes in humans (causing mutations, werewolves, and artifacts to act strange.)

Peter wants nothing more than to find his wife’s killer. But he can’t get any answers he’s been blacklisted and thrown out of the organisations he worked for. Peter feels like he had nothing more to give, nothing to lose, he’s given up. His only comfort is the bottle of alcohol.

The plot moves at a steady pace, Rhett and Knight both have an agenda, both don’t want to fall for one another. But as a rival organisation try to obtain (by fair or foul means) Knight, each will see the other in a different light. It’s a slow blooming romance, but with a strong storyline, you don’t always need endless amounts of sex.

It was good to find out more of the origins of Redclaw. And how it started from it’s humble beginnings. If knight and bishop are in the next book, then count me in.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 10, 2019

A vow. A contract.
A marriage of fire and ice.
But just when Eric de Vries and I found our forever, the entire world conspired to keep us apart.

A kidnapping. A trial.
A madman bent on revenge.
Now caught in a web of our own passion and a father’s obsession, the harder we struggle, the tighter we’re caught
.
They say love conquers all, but it feels like we’re the conquest.
As the walls close in, I have to wonder…are we really meant to be?

Or is this love just a trap?

••••••••••

REVIEW:THE LOVE TRAP is the third (and final ?) instalment in Nicole French’s contemporary, adult QUICKSILVER romantic suspense trilogy focusing newlyweds, attorney and billionaire heir to the De Vries Dynasty Eric de Vries, and attorney Jane Lee Lefferts-de Vries. THE LOVE TRAP should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book two THE KISS PLOT.

WARNING: There are scenes of violence and assault that may not be suitable for more sensitive readers.

Told from first person perspective (Jane Lee Lefferts-de Vries) and third person Eric de Vries using present day and memories from the past, THE LOVE TRAP picks up immediately after the events of book two THE KISS PLOT wherein Eric has been arrested on trumped-up charges, and Jane is heading to Korea to search for her missing mother. Two hundred years of money, power and control by a secret society with connections to the de Vries’ dynasty finds Jane’s life hanging in the balance when Eric refuses to play the game. The oligarch’s have forced their way into the lives of the rich and famous, lives that are threatened and destroyed when rules are broken, and jealousy turns to murder in the blink of an eye.

THE LOVE TRAP is a dramatic story of love and betrayal; vengeance and greed; power, dominance, secrets and lies. Nicole French pulls the reader into a heart breaking, dark and gritty tale of loss and retribution; an intense love story threatened by resentment, spite and the antagonistic but psychotic minds of the powerful few.

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository / Google Play / Apple

Description:
Evelyn is a woman who has everything–a successful career as a TV producer, and her best friend—sexy firefighter Owen Hanson—who looks mighty fine as her plus-one to awards dinners and backyard picnics. But something is missing and it’s not just the sex.

Owen Hanson is living the dream—a Chicago firefighter who volunteers at a youth center on the Southside and he’s got his best friend Evelyn—who knows him better than anyone. When Evelyn starts hinting about wanting something more, Owen panics.

Sex changes everything but taking their relationship to the next level surpasses even their wildest dreams. Until Evelyn’s ex-husband shows up and could make even the most perfect couple crash and burn…

Each book in the Daring Divorcees series is STANDALONE:
* One Night with a Millionaire
* My Best Friend’s Ex
* My Forever Plus-One

Review:

My Forever Plus-One by Shannyn Schroeder is book three which is also a standalone book in the Daring Divorcees Series. Evelyn Rhodes and Owen Hanson are best friends who met in a divorcee support group.  They have been each other’s plus-one, through thick and thin for a few years now. Always relying on the other in times of need and always having each other to fall back on. They end up sustaining their friendship even with a few bumps in the road. But can their friendship withstand taking it to the next level?

Evelyn is a tv producer and Owen is a fire fighter – and over time their friendship has changed into something more. Evelyn didn’t start to think of Owen in any way other than friendship until last summer when their New Beginnings group leader, Nina, suggested that they should be more than friends.  Ever since then she started to see him in a whole different light.  Even though they each have some issues to work through in their relationship they eventually get there in the most heart warming way!

The concept of this series is amazing. A divorcee support group that meets each week and where each character that is there gets their own story. This is a new to me concept which I just fell in love with! And even though I have come in late to the show, I will be going back and reading the other books in the series.

This book was light hearted, warm and caring! All the feels you want from a friendship turn lover’s story! Throw in how hilarious Owen’s mom Carol is and you have yourself an amazing read!

Review:

Claiming the Cowboy for Christmas by Kadie Scott is the 4th book in her The Hills of Texas series.  Ashley is glad to be home, she’s missed her family, especially her twin Taylor. Two years has been long enough. But if she stays that’s a whole different matter.

Taylor is marrying Ashley’s ex!!! Could that be anymore awkward? To outsiders and Taylor, yes it is, but to Ashley, her and Eric broke up a long time ago. She’s moved on, she’s happy for the couple, the only reason she stayed away…..  to give the gossips time to move on….. no such luck!!! Ashley is met with awkward silences and pitying looks!!

Taking Taylor out on her bachelorette party is an ideal way to put the gossips to bed for go. But as it goes from bad to worse, Ashley is wanting to head back to Dallas, pretty darn quick. Thank goodness she’s only here till the New Year, surely she can survive till then?

Jennings Hill has always loved Ashley, from the first day at preschool until the day she dumped him to be with Eric. They were best friends, did everything together, and then he had to watch his best friend change to please the boyfriend. So to hide his feelings from everyone (including himself) he began to antagonise Ashley. Never getting close to her. But that’s all about to change, dancing with Ashley has set the gossips in motion. What’s a guy to do? Does he help an old friend out? Or does he just walk away and leave her to deal with it?

Jennings asks Ashley if she’ll looking into a case of fraud for him, and Ashley quickly agrees, they might not be friends now, but they were a long time ago.

The more time they spend together, the more Ashley sees him in a different light. Yes, she may have had a slight crush on him, but he was her best friend, she really shouldn’t be imaging him in that way!!!

Jennings on the other hand thinks Ashley still isn’t over Eric!! He’s frustrated, why can’t she see what’s in front of her?

So ……will Ashley stay in Texas? Will she convince Jennings that she is totally over Eric? And will Eric finally get the girl he has always longed for?

SNOWFALL ON CEDAR TRAIL
Sweetwater Springs #3

Genre: adult, contemporary,romance

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 8, 2019

Last Christmas was tough for Halona Locklear and her seven-year-old son Theo, who hasn’t spoken a word since his father’s death. This year, Halona wants nothing more than to give him a good holiday and to hear his sweet voice again. Enrolling him in the Mentor Match program might help, but when Theo gets matched with Sweetwater Springs Chief of Police, Alex Baker, Halona realizes that the handsome hero might know secrets about her past that she is determined to keep buried.

Chief of Police, Alex Baker, re-opens his father’s hit-and-run cold case every December, hoping to finally solve it. This year, his plate is full with being a Mentor Match to a young seven-year-old boy as well. His biggest obstacle, however, is fighting his attraction to the boy’s mother, Halona. As Alex gets close to solving his father’s cold case, he learns that those closest to him may be in danger — including Halona. Alex has already lost one of the most important people in his life; he isn’t about to lose her too, even if it means walking away to keep her safe.

•••••••

REVIEW: SNOWFALL ON CEDAR TRAIL is the third instalment in Annie Rains’ contemporary, adult SWEETWATER SPRINGS romance series focusing on the people of Sweetwater Springs, North Carolina. This is police chief Alex Baker, and widow, single mother and florist Halona Locklear’s story line. SNOWFALL ON CEDAR TRAIL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Halona and Alex) SNOWFALL ON CEDAR TRAIL follows the building romance between Sweetwater Springs’ police chief Alex Baker, and widow, single mother and florist Halona Locklear. Halona Locklear’s life changed the day her husband died but our heroine kept secrets from the people she loved including her young son Theo, whose selective mutism began the day his father passed away. Hoping to get Theo into the Mentor Match program, Halona discovers that her brother’s best friend, and the local police chief Alex Baker, has been assigned to ‘mentor’ her troubled young boy. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Alex and Halona, and the potential fall-out as Halona struggles with the past, and blames our hero for the things out of his control.

Meanwhile, Chief Alex Baker has yet to move forward since the hit and run death of his father, the former police chief, a man whose death eleven years earlier, is suspicious and, as yet, unsolved. Every Christmas, upon the anniversary of his father’s death, Alex reopens the investigation, and this year a new clue will come from an unlikely source.

The relationship between Alex and Halona is a friends to lovers romance. Alex has been attracted to his best friend’s sister for as along as he can remember but when Halona fell in love with the local football star, Alex watched from the sidelines losing all hope for his own happily ever after. All $ex scenes are implied and fade to black.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters, most of whom we have met in previous instalments. We are introduced to Halona’s son Theo; Alex’s grandmother; as well as struggling couple Sharlene and Tony Anderson.

SNOWFALL ON CEDAR TRAIL is a story of second chances; a sweet romance between two people who have lost someone special in their lives but whose pasts will intercept in the present and future. The premise is engaging and captivating; the characters are colorful and energetic; the romance is charming and sweet

Trouble is, when we’re forced into closer quarters planning an engagement party for our best friends, I start to see his other sides.

And I fear I’m falling for the enemy.

***

I’m not out to make friends. My goals are simple — fight till the end for my clients, and my family.

The last thing I need is a vibrant, outgoing, snarky, and surprisingly big-hearted wedding planner to spend my precious free time with…except, watching Piper bond with my daughter just might break down the cinder block walls I’ve built around my heart these last few years.

Second chances don’t come around for guys like me…or do they?

REVIEW:NEVER HAVE I EVER is the third instalment in Lauren Blakely’s contemporary, adult ALWAYS SATISFIED erotic, romance series focusing on a group of former college friends. This is attorney, widower and single father Zach Nolan, and wedding planner Piper Radcliffe’s story line. NEVER HAVE I EVER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Piper and Zach) NEVER HAVE I EVER follows the enemies to friends to lovers relationship between attorney, widower and single father Zach Nolan, and wedding planner Piper Radcliffe. As a divorce attorney Zach rarely sees a happily ever after but the death of his wife has jaded our hero to second chances including his own. When mutual friends plan their ‘I do’s’ Zach finds himself face to face with wedding planner and the bane of his existence Piper Radcliffe, the woman who stirs something long thought buried and dead. Forced together for a destination wedding in London, England, Piper and Zach will take their relationship up to the next level, a level that many threaten any hard-fought attempts at friendship. What ensues is the building romance between Zach and Piper, and the potential fall-out as Zach struggles to move forward leaving Piper to pick up the pieces of her broken heart.

The relationship between Zach and Piper is an enemies to lovers. Zach rarely sees a happy ending because of the multitude of divorces he has had to preside over; and Piper is the perpetual optimist regarding marriage and love, except when it involves her own lonely heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic, language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Dina, Heather, Charlie and Jessica, Steven and Jason, Zach’s children Lucy and Henry, as well as Piper’s sister Paige, and Piper’s friend and hairstylist Adrien. We are reintroduced to Sloane and Malone (Delayed Satisfaction / Satisfaction Guaranteed #1).

NEVER HAVE I EVER is a story of second chances, of a sorts, for two people who have loved and lost but lost on a different end of the relationship spectrum. The premise is engaging and captivating; the romance is seductive, impassioned and hot; the characters are dynamic and charismatic. NEVER HAVE I EVER is a wonderful addition to Lauren’s ALWAYS SATISFIED romance series.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 8, 2019

Dean Walker is all about keeping life simple. He’s effortlessly talented and intelligent—spending his summers playing drums in the local band and the rest of the year teaching high school in the same Jersey town where he grew up. He likes his love life simple too, enjoying the commitment-free hook-ups his good looks and sexy charm have always made oh so easy.

Then he meets Lainey Burrows. And his simple, easy life gets turned upside down.

One wild one-night stand was all it was ever supposed to be, so Lainey is shocked when she discovers that her sizzling summer fling is also her son’s new math teacher. But that’s nothing compared to the most unexpected twist of all—their hot hook-up left Lainey knocked up, and now they’re about to become parents. Together.

What ensues is an addictive, insatiable, sweet and tender romance that won’t be simple, but it will be more than worth the fight.

••••••••

REVIEW:Getting Played begins with Lainey Burrows out one night with her sister and brother-in-law at a bar having drinks and listening to some music. It doesn’t take Lainey, or anyone else, long to notice the hot drummer who keeps staring her way. Once the set is over, said drummer makes his way over to where Lainey is sitting and they strike up a conversation. When it starts to get late, Lainey’s family members leave the bar and encourage her to have a good time.

After Lainey and Dean, the hot drummer, have a few more drinks, they decide to head back to where he is staying while the band had been playing in the area. Lainey is a little hesitant at first, but then decides that a one-night stand might do her some good. She’ll have some fun and head back home to her life as a lifestyle vlogger and single mom and move herself and her son to the house she will be decorating and vlogging about in a new town.

What neither Lainey, nor Dean, plan on is the off the charts attraction they feel for each other. When their passionate night is over, Lainey tries to sneak out, but Dean rouses and they tell each other goodbye. Once Dean wakes later, he is so mad at himself for not getting her number, or hell, even her last name. Little do either of them know how life changing that one will be for both of them…….

Getting Played is a wonderfully written story. The characters are masterfully written. Lainey has made a life for herself and her son and has a wonderful outlook on life. She makes friends easily and is a help to anyone and everyone who needs it. Dean is an easygoing guy, smart and good looking. His circle of friends in his hometown are amazing. He does have a bit of a womanizing past, but his Grams knows that he just hasn’t met the right one. He is a teacher at the local high school and an assistant football coach. The secondary characters are well written and I can’t wait to read more about them. This is the first I’ve read by Emma Chase, but will not be the last. You are pulled into the story from the very first word. If you like contemporary romance with palpable chemistry and a scorching romance, you’ll not go wrong with this one. Well done, Emma Chase!! Very, very well done!

I find Lainey in the living room—standing on a ladder, with those long, toned legs peeking out from itty bitty cotton black shorts and a power drill in her hand, while Bruce Springsteen sings “I’m Goin’ Down” from a speaker in the corner.
And, dear God—the things I could do to her on that ladder.
Wonderful, filthy things that instantly make my heart pound and my cock throb. She’s the perfect height for me to just walk over there and put my mouth between her legs. I picture it, see it in my mind—the way she’d grip my hair and pant my name, arch her back and writhe against my face . . .
But then I catch sight of the small bump of her stomach, and reality smacks me in the head. I think about the baby—and how making Lainey lose her mind three feet off the ground wouldn’t be the safest option. My protective instinct overrides the desire to get freaky on the ladder.
“Hey, Dean.” She sets the drill on the ledge and picks up a beeping light green rectangle, running it along the wall.
“What are you doing up there?” I ask.
I don’t have a decorative bone in my body, but the room looks good—with light gray walls and navy corduroy covered couches, reclaimed wood tables and a dozen different-sized candles filling the white-washed brick fireplace. It’s clean and simple but warm, the kind of place you’d look forward to coming back to every day.
“I’m going to hang up those boards.” Lainey gestures to three square planks, with ornamental arrows burned black into the wood. “I just want to make sure this stud-finder works.”
“If you’re looking for a stud,” I wink, “I’m standing right in front of you.”
“Ha-ha. I’ll keep that in mind.”
She turns back to the wall, reaching up over her head and stretching onto her tippy toes on the narrow step. I move under the ladder to catch her if she goes ass over end, and a stab of terror slices through me at the thought that Lainey would still be doing this if I wasn’t here. Alone. Without Jason even in the room in case something went terribly wrong.
What the hell is up with that?
“I read that you’re not supposed to reach above your head when you’re pregnant.”
“That’s just an old wives’ tale.”
I wrap my hands around her hips, holding her steady.
“Maybe the old wives knew what they were talking about. Come on, come down.”
Slowly, Lainey lowers her arms and turns in my hands. I lift her off the ladder by her hips, tilting my head back and holding her above me for a moment, before sliding her slowly down. And the feel of her softness rubbing against me, the friction—it’s fantastic.
When her feet are on the ground, I dip my head and our faces are just millimeters apart. Close enough to count the sprinkle of cute, light freckles that dust the bridge of her nose.
“That’s better,” I say softly, taking the stud-finder out of her hands. “I’ll do it.”
“Okay.” Lainey’s tongue peeks out, wetting her bottom lip. “Thanks.”
