HUNTER (IMMORTALS OF NEW ORLEANS)

Hunter Livingston’s trip to Hell had been a calculated risk. Best case scenario, he’d save a friend and come out unscathed; at worst, he’d burn in flames for eternity. But finding the high priestess had never been part of his plan, nor was rescuing the near-dead stranger he’d found lying by her side. Drawn to the mysterious woman, he’d sworn to protect her from the rogue pack who sought her body and the demon who sought her soul. But after an attack on his own pack, he questioned his loyalty to the one who could be his mate.

With royal blood flowing through her veins, Dr. Willa Jacobs had long hidden her Lycan heritage. Deep within the rainforest, she’d unearthed a discovery that drew the attention of both humans and forces of evil. Rescued by the charismatic Alpha, she’d known her kidnappers would never give up looking for her or her research. Determined to protect her savior and his wolves, she’d had no choice but to leave him. But as the dominant Alpha stirred her beast to rise, her emotions warred, and she was more determined than ever to see her adversaries burn in Hell.

From Wyoming to Louisiana to deep within the Guatemalan jungle, Hunter and Willa spiral into an erotic and dangerous journey where they question who is foe or friend, and must fight to destroy their enemies. As Willa grows closer to the sexy Alpha, will she accept her true nature, embracing the strength of her abilities? If they survive, will Hunter claim his mate, accepting the hellfire that runs through her veins?

REVIEW:HUNTER is the tenth instalment in Kym Grosso’s adult IMMORTALS OF NEW ORLEANS, erotic, paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is Alpha wolf shifter Hunter Livingston, and ancient Lycan Dr. Willa Jacobs’ story line. HUNTER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order, especially the last few instalments, for backstory and history as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

NOTE: There are some scenes of violence and MFM sexual situations that may not be suitable for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual third person perspectives ( Willa and Hunter ) HUNTER follows in the aftermath of Willa, Viktor Christianson (ancient vampire) and Ilsbeth’s (High Priestess of New Orleans) rescue from Hell. One week earlier, Viktor Christianson has been attacked by demons, and Hunter opened the gates to Hades in an effort to save his vampire friend but Hunter had no idea what he was about to uncover. Viktor was not the only supernatural imprisoned by the Demons. Enter the High Priestess of New Orleans and many a supernatural’s bane of existence Ilsbeth, and Dr. Willa Jacobs, Hunter’s fated mate. While Hunter took care to save Willa’s life, Viktor offered to shelter Ilsbeth upon her return to Earth. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Hunter and Willa, and the potential fall-out Willa, Hunter and Viktor must return to Hell in an effort to procure Willa’s freedom, and that of her brother Julian.

Dr. Willa Jacobs is much more than she appears to be. An ancient Lycan with powerful magick, Willa is desperate to remain hidden, on the run, from the supernatural beings hoping to use her powerful blood for rituals, rites and food. Desperate to protect the pack, and the Alpha with whom she will fall in love, Willa struggles to stay one step ahead of the rogue wolves who are seeking to take her back to Hell. Hunter Livingston never expected to find his mate in Hell, a mate who is reluctant to submit to our story line hero but Hunter suspects Willa is hiding the truth behind her imprisonment in Hell, a truth that could very well end up destroying her life.

The relationship between Willa and Hunter is one of immediate attraction. Hunter suspects Willa is his fated mate but Willa refuses to place Hunter and his Pack in danger as she is hunted by a group of rogue wolves who have been tasked to bring her back to Hell. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense: there is an MFM sexual relationship with Viktor Christianson.

The colorful and energetic cast of secondary and supporting characters include Viktor Christianson, and the High Priestess of New Orleans Ilsbeth; Willa’s brother Julian; as well as several vampires, wolves, demons and fae, many of whom we have been introduced in previous story lines.

HUNTER is fast paced, detailed, industrious and spirited story line that continues to build upon previous instalments. The premise is intriguing, enterprising and engaging; the characters are captivating and dynamic; the romance is seductive, powerful and bewitching.

Against the Rules by Laura Heffernan – a Review

Against the Rules by Laura Heffernan – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository / Google Play / Apple

Description:
RISK EVERYTHING …….

Holly has taken herself out of the dating game since breaking up with her cheating, thieving ex. She barely notices Marc, who comes into the game store every week, hoping to get her attention. Her friends insist it’s time to take on a new role, to leave Quiet Holly behind and embrace her inner flirt. And on paper, Marc’s great: cute, funny, and a hardcore gamer just like Holly is.

Then there’s Nathan. He’s everything twenty-eight-year-old Holly wants…except he’s also her friend’s father. Absolutely off-limits. But as she and Nathan playtest a new legacy game together, they’re growing closer. The game is complex and intriguing, and there’s no way to know how choices will pan out. What seems like a good idea could lead to disaster…or sweet victory. But in gaming, as in love, sometimes you have to roll the dice and take your chance . . .

Review:

Against the Rules by Laura Heffernan is the second book in her Gamer Girls series.

In the last book (it’s not necessary to read, but it does give you a little background to take you into this book.) Holly finds out her fiancé had been cheating on her, and he’s stolen money from her, so she dumps him….

But that has given her confidence a huge knock, so she retreats into the shop she works in (a gaming shop).  After her friends (Gwen and Shannon)  convince her to go out and have a little fun, she plucks up the courage to go out, but with whom?

Nathan is her best friend’s dad, so she shouldn’t be looking at him, but there is something about Nathan that appeals to Holly, and once they start playing this new game, she sees him a whole new light. (And to be honest, she’s always had a little crush on him)

Marc is Holly’s indecisive game customer (but is that to get Holly’s attention?) he comes in and they discuss the games. When he finally plucks up the courage to ask her out, it’s via text (but it’s the modern world and dares are now arranged that way, I suppose?)

And after a couple of disastrous online chats, Holly needs to get out into the real world and date (can’t do it all online)

So …… who will Holly choose? And what about the cheating thieving ex? You know somewhere along the line he’s going to make an appearance. Will she be sweet talked into letting him back into her life?

I’ll have to be honest, I liked this one, but not as much as the first book (She’s Got Game) the characters bounced off of one another, where in this book, I don’t get that same feeling.

I did like the game thought at the beginning of the chapter, but not sure I needed to hear so much about the Game they were playing.

Royal Holiday by Jasmine Guillory – Review & Giveaway

Royal Holiday by Jasmine Guillory – Review & Giveaway

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository / Google Play / Apple

Description:
Vivian Forest has been out of the country a grand total of one time, so when she gets the chance to tag along on her daughter Maddie’s work trip to England to style a royal family member, she can’t refuse. She’s excited to spend the holidays taking in the magnificent British sights, but what she doesn’t expect is to become instantly attracted to a certain private secretary, his charming accent, and unyielding formality.

Malcolm Hudson has worked for the Queen for years and has never given a personal, private tour—until now. He is intrigued by Vivian the moment he meets her and finds himself making excuses just to spend time with her. When flirtatious banter turns into a kiss under the mistletoe, things snowball into a full-on fling.

Despite a ticking timer on their holiday romance, they are completely fine with ending their short, steamy affair come New Year’s Day. . .or are they?

Review:

Royal Holiday by Jasmine Guillory is the 4th book in her The Wedding Date series.  I have enjoyed the first three books in this series, and I thought this was a different twist, as well as a charming story line.  So very well written by Guillory.

We meet our heroine, Vivian Forest, who is invited by her daughter Maddie (previous book heroine) to travel with her to England to help style and dress a royal family member.  This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and Maddie wants her mom with her; of course, Vivian has never been out of the country and is delighted to go.  They will be spending the Christmas holidays with the Duke and Duchess at Sandringham.

Malcom Hudson, our hero, is the private secretary for the Queen, and tends to stop over at Sandringham to eat the fabulous scones that Julia, the cook makes.   He meets Vivian, and in a short time a slow built romance will begin.  Vivian is in awe to meet Malcom, especially since she finds him so handsome and immediately becomes attracted to him.  Malcom finds himself enjoying their friendship, as he takes Vivian on various tours around Sandringham, as well as Buckingham Palace.

What follows is a lighthearted heartwarming simple story of an older couple, who have been single for many years find romance, but not a likely to be a permanent relationship as they live in two different continents.  Both Vivian and Malcolm were great, and it was so sweet and fun as we get to see them explore the many sights of England.  Very well done.  I also loved seeing Maddie again, as she played a big part in the story, and loved her wonderful relationship with her mom.  When the holiday ends, will Vivian and Malcom find a way to make things work?

Royal Holiday was a charming, fun, delightful story, with a wonderful mature couple, and great secondary characters.  I loved the scenes throughout country side and in London.   Once again, Jasmine Guillory gives us a wonderful enjoyable story.
