Nine months later, I move to a sleepy little town, hoping to escape the demons of my past. As I attempt to claim back my life, Jude Montgomery enters my world, and things begin to change.

I thought running would appease the nightmares, but I soon discover my past won’t let go. Things are not what they seem, and I begin to question the world as I know it. Jude may hold the answers, but will my love for him blind me to the truth?

Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas? In my case, yes, it does.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 31, 2019

Danger awaits Marine-turned-lawyer Jake Wolfe on his vacation to sunny San Diego and Cabo San Lucas. There he finds sugary white sand beaches, warm turquoise water, boat trips among gray whales, and … cold blooded murder.

It was meant to be a relaxing holiday for Jake and his adopted war dog, Cody, but violence erupts when he crosses paths with a criminal cartel urgently seeking to reclaim a deadly package.

Jake learns the missing item is a threat to US citizens and vows to stop the cartel from possessing it, no matter what vigilante justice actions he might have to take.

Time is running out and thousands of innocent lives are at risk. Will the two combat veterans be able to retrieve the dangerous item before the killers do? The clock is ticking, but Jake hopes that if anybody can help find the package, it has to be his highly-trained and ultra-intelligent dog, Cody.

•••••••••

REVIEW: SAN DIEGO DEAD is the fourth instalment in Mark Nolan’s contemporary, adult JAKE WOLFE military, suspense series focusing on former Marine, above Top Secret clandestine Black Ops specialist and attorney Jake Wolfe.

NOTE: SAN DIEGO DEAD includes scenes of violence and implied torture that may not be suitable for more sensitive readers.

Told from several third person perspectives including Jake Wolfe, SAN DIEGO DEAD follows in the wake of Jake Wolfe’s latest mission wherein our hero took down a known Albanian pirate who sold stolen watercraft to the Mexican cartel. Extending his mission in Cabo San Lucas, in an effort to enjoy some downtime with his lady love Sarah, Jake and Sarah, along with Jake’s Marine buddy Pez, will become the target of the cartel, bringing danger and death back home to everyone he knows and loves. From terrorism to human trafficking, drug smuggling and international espionage Jake Wolfe demands entrance into a world that threatens the people back home when the hunt for an unknown ‘package’ becomes personal and deadly.

SAN DIEGO DEAD is an energetic and dynamic story of action and suspense. Along with his military support dog Cody, and the help of numerous secret government agencies, Jake is determined to take down those who have threatened so many lives.

From the outset, Jake Wolfe is a man who expects trouble at every turn: suspicious of everyone, mistrusting on instinct, our hero must endure the loss of friends, and the possibility of losing the woman he loves as his first priority is to the United States of America.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, aggressive and spirited characters (several of whom we have met in previous instalments) including Jake’s handlers with the US government Secret Service Agent Shannon McKay; Veterinarian Sarah Chance; Jake’s former Marine buddies Sammy ‘Pez’ Lopez, and Lieutenant Terrell Hayes; Secret Service agents Yvonne Greene and Easton; Cody the wonder dog; SFPD Sergeant Beth Cushman, as well as the requisite evil including cartel leader El Rojo, and the Angel of Death.

SAN DIEGO DEAD is a dramatic, intense and action-packed story with plenty of military and Black Ops jargon but for a man practised in the art of secret military operations and mission, Jake Wolfe is easily found by everyone bent on destroying his life. The premise is intriguing and suspense filled; the characters are numerous and impassioned.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 4, 2019

Billy Winston’s family is going to see him happy and in love if it’s the last thing they do.

No one deserves a happily-ever-after quite as much as the second oldest Winston brother and his lady love, Claire McClure (aka Scarlet St. Claire). Cruelty and circumstance tore them apart almost twenty years ago. Secrecy and bitterness kept them separated.

But you know who’s tired of their separation and stubbornness? Everyone. Especially Billy Winston’s family. And now they’re going to do something about it.

Well-meaning interference means the star-crossed lovers can’t stop tripping over each other in the hills of Tuscany, the catacombs of Rome, and the waterways of Venice. Billy and Claire find themselves thrown together and at the mercy of the Winston siblings’ shenanigans.

But will their forced proximity bring them together? Or push them even further apart?

This second-chance romance brings back the entire Winston gang, playing cupid in one last story of love, hi-jinks, and family collusion.

•••••••••

REVIEW:BEARD NECESSITIES is the seventh full-length instalment in Penny Reid’s contemporary, adult WINSTON BROTHERS romance series focusing on the Winston siblings of Green Valley, East Tennessee. This is thirty-four year old, Congressman Billy Winston, and thirty-two year old, country singer Claire McClure’s (aka Scarlet St. Claire) story line. BEARD NECESSITIES can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading book six BEARD WITH ME for some of the history between Billy and Scarlet. The author recommends reading books 0.5, 2, 3, 5, and 6 of the Winston Brothers series to learn more of the backstory involving our leading couple, and their warring families.

SOME BACKGROUND: At the age of sixteen, Billy Winston was beaten within inches of his life by the Iron Wraiths MC but Scarlet St. Claire would never know the truth until eighteen years later, a truth that would reveal how much Billy was willing to risk to save the life of the young woman he loved.

Told from three first person perspectives including Cletus, Billy and Scarlet BEARD NECESSITIES follows the rekindling romance and relationship between Billy Winston, and Claire McClure (aka Scarlet St. Claire). Eighteen years earlier Billy and Scarlet’s world imploded when following years of abuse at the hands of her father, Scarlet walks out of Billy’s life, and into the arms of someone else. Fast forward to present day wherein, Scarlet, now known as country singer Claire McClure, would join the Winston clan in Italy, a family get together organized, in effort, to bring Billy and Scarlet back together. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Billy and Scarlet, and the potential fall-out as secrets and lies threaten to tear them apart, once again.

Congressman Billy Winston is considering running for Tennessee state senator but struggles with a family history that could threaten everything and more. With his brother Roscoe recovering from an attack; and Billy recovering from donating bone-marrow, the family heads to Italy for Billy’s health, and to push together two people who haven’t stopped loving one another for close to twenty years.

The relationship between Scarlet and Billy is acrimonious and antagonistic. Years of secrets and lies have destroyed any semblance of a happily ever after; their love for one another hidden behind layers of heart break, pain, betrayal and mistrust. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including all of the Winston siblings and their spouses, as well as Duane Winston’s in-laws Sheriff and Mrs. James.

BEARD NECESSITIES is a story of family, betrayal, secrets and lies; of revenge and hate; second chances and a happily ever after. Penny Reid pulls the Winston family together in an effort to reconcile estranged brothers, and lovers, and in doing so, reveals a complicated past between our leading couple. The premise is sensitive, inviting and engaging; the characters are sassy, dynamic and animated; the second chance romance is tender and emotional.

Strolling to the desk, I set down the milk and cookies, crossed my arms and turned to face my brother. “You’re pointing out that Scarlet and I will see each other during various family functions.”
“Correct.”
“And, therefore,” I continued reasonably, “I need to be nice to her.” I knew that already, and tonight—after watching her face crumple and feeling a part of my soul shrivel at the sight—I’d finally accepted it. I would be nice. I would be so damn nice. I’d be a saint.
But then Cletus said, “No, Billy. Not nice. Nice is for tea parties and doctor’s visits. You need to woo her.”
I blinked once. “Woo her.”
“That’s right. You need to woo the pants off her, hopefully literally, and then make that woman yours. Permanently. Once and for all. Put a ring on it. Woo is where it’s at. Jenn still has the centerpieces from our wedding if you’d like to borrow them.” During this enlightening monologue, he’d moseyed over and picked up the glass of milk and a cookie, dunked the cookie into the milk, and then took a bite just as he’d finished his listings of delusions.
“That’s never going to happen.”
“Why not? Those centerpieces are lovely. You don’t know your color scheme yet. Ask Scarlet before you decide.”
I ground my teeth. “Scarlet and I are never going to happen, Cletus.”
He shook his head firmly. “I’m disappointed in your lack of ambition, Billy. I thought we’d be on the same page. But I see now, I’m going to have to take a tough love approach.”
“Cletus—”
“I’m going to give you one chance,” he said, then pushed the rest of the cookie in his mouth and spoke around it as he continued, “One more chance is all you get. I’ve waited long enough for this and you know my feelings on delayed gratification.”
“Pardon?”
“It’s overrated.” He took a gulp of milk and picked up another cookie.
“No, Cletus. One chance on what?”
“I’m giving you one chance. One.” He pointed the cookie at me. “Tomorrow, you’re going to go find her, apologize to her for whatever that kerflufflefuck was I walked in on. Tell her you were suffering from temporary insanity, hopped up on illicit drugs, abducted by asshole probing aliens, whatever. I’m giving you one chance to make this right, and if you don’t take it, you are not going to like what happens next.”

“Do not think I won’t pick you up and throw you in my truck, head first and everything. I’m two seconds away.”
I stopped and stared at him.
Shit. He meant business. He was glaring at me with eyes that said, “Do not fucking fuck with me, you fucking twit.”
Well. Then.
I sighed. I’ll try reasoning instead. “You’re going to drive me to your house, and then I’ll pack whatever I need and call a cab to take me all the way back to where I’m paying rent. It’s not worth it. Just let me grab a cab now.”
A savage curse bit out, and then his eyes flashed.
His singular warning had been when he told me he was two seconds away. In a flash, he grabbed me, and I was airborne, right into the back of his truck. But he wasn’t done. He leapt up, grabbing the seatbelt over me, and pulled it around me, clicking it in place. He had the door shut, locked, and he was already going around the front before I could even push myself upright and then start to reach for my seatbelt.
By then, he was inside, the engine on, and he shoved off into traffic.
“This is stupid.”
“You’re right. You’re being stupid.” Cursing, he ducked down as a car sped past us. They knew he was driving because they came up on his driver’s side, their phones up and ready to go. It was a car full of teenage girls. “Dammit.”
“Where do you live?”
He opened his mouth, then caught himself. His eyes narrowed in the rearview mirror. “Why?”
I just smiled. “No reason.”
He continued to study me in between still watching the road, and with a soft growl, he shook his head. “I’m not buying it. What? You’re going to tell those girls who are trying to get a picture of me?”
“What’s the difference? I’ll know when you take me to your house. What’s stopping me from posting it on Twitter, or even posting your phone number?”
A litany of curses spewed from him, and the back of his neck was getting red. I was having a heyday with this. It was more fun than I could remember having in a long time.
Until he announced it, “I liked your mom.”
“What?”
“Your mom.” He moved into the far lane, settling back.
I was thinking we had a bit of drive from here, and he settled an arm back on the passenger seat headrest.
“I always liked her. She made me cookies and muffins. And I remember when she tried to teach us to bake cakes from scratch. You were horrible and your cakes tasted terrible, but we’d lie to you. Both of us.”
“You did not—” But I was remembering, and even I hadn’t wanted to taste my cakes.
A tug at my mouth. “She’d wear that ugly yellow apron. She hated that apron.”
“What? I loved that apron. Always felt like it was sunshine. Made me feel warm, even in the winter.”
I noted softly, “That’s why she wore it. For you.”
His eyes lifted to the rearview mirror, holding mine a second again. He swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down. “Yeah.” His voice came out raspy. “She was a good woman, and a good mom. She was a good wife. I could always tell.”
I snorted. “Why? Because she wasn’t wasting away like yours?” Then, I winced. That sounded even bitchier to my own ears, more than I thought it would be. “Shit. I’m sorr—”
“Because you guys laughed.” He kept on talking about my family, ignoring what I’d so blatantly pointed out about his own, his face hard. “My parents laughed when they were drunk, and only when they had a party. When there were other people there to laugh with, never the two of them, never the three of us. I was their only kid. I wouldn’t have known better except I half grew up in your home, too, and what I remember the most about growing up was that you guys laughed.”
My throat burned.
“Yeah, we did.” I looked out the window. A hollow feeling starting to dig in my chest. “Until she died. We didn’t laugh much after that.”
“You laughed until then?”
I nodded. I felt the chinks in my armor widening.
I remembered how he did adore my mom. The two acted as if they were conspiring together during our baking lessons, and any time he was in the house. He congregated around her. She congregated closer to him.
“You’re the son she never had.” Then, feeling bad about my shot at his mom, “Your mom cooked for us. I remember that one time she tried to teach us to make lasagna.”
He cracked a grin, barking a laugh. “You sucked at that, too. I never knew lasagna noodles could come out hard like rocks until yours.”
Fuck him, but I was grinning. I couldn’t help myself.
Those were good times, good memories before the shit ones came. And they came soon after that lasagna disaster.
He quieted. “It wasn’t the same. My mom versus yours. We had baking lessons at your house once a month, every first Sunday. My mom tried to teach us how to make Caesar salad, the only second cooking session she gave us, and that one we all got fine. It’s hard to screw up.”
“Says you. You’re perfect at everything.”
He didn’t reply.
I didn’t expect him to. It was true. He knew it. I knew it. The entire nation knew it.
Then from him, “Not at being a friend.”
My stomach kicked.
Hell no. No way. He wasn’t getting back in. No fucking way.
“Oh. God.” I groaned, throwing a hand up to hit my forehead. “Can we not? Can we save the dramatics until I’m able to call a cab to take me back to my place? For real. Enough bonding or whatever it is we were just doing.”
He growled, “You are such a goddamn bitch.”
I retorted, “And you are such a goddamn prick. Drop me the fuck off!”
“With fucking pleasure!”
He gunned the engine, shooting forward in traffic, and weaving until we were nearing my exit. When he took it, I relaxed. The rest of the way was tense and silent, and I knew both of us couldn’t wait to be rid of the other. Then he pulled over to the curb. He didn’t make a move, his only action just unlocking the door.
His head was turned halfway to me, his jaw clenching over and over again.
Fine.
I shoved forward, my head only swimming a little bit as I climbed out of his truck. Once I shut the door and turned around, he’d already hit the engine, tearing away from the curb.
I only had the clothes on my back, on the side of the street, but I’d never been so fucking grateful to be away from him.
Now, turning to the house I wasn’t sure I was still invited to live in, I saw that all the lights were off. Lovely.

Wicked Hour by Chloe Neill – a Review

Wicked Hour by Chloe Neill – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository / Google Play / Apple

Description:
Vampires were made, not born—until Elisa Sullivan came along. As the only vampire child in existence, she grew up with a heavy legacy, and tried to flee her past. Then circumstances drew her back to Chicago, and she stayed to keep it safe. With shifter Connor Keene, the only son of Pack Apex Gabriel Keene, at her side, she faced down a supernatural evil that threatened to destroy Chicago forever.

After the dust from the attack has settled, Elisa is surprised when Connor invites her to a usually private Pack event in the north woods of Minnesota, and by the warm welcome she receives from some of Connor’s family, even though she’s a vampire. But the peace doesn’t last. The shifters tell tales of a monster in the woods, and when the celebration is marred by death, Elisa and Connor find themselves in the middle of a struggle for control that forces Elisa to face her true self—fangs and all.

Review:

Wicked Hour by Chloe Neill is the 2nd book in her Heirs of Chicagoland series.  I looked forward to reading this book, especially after I loved the first book, Wild Hunger.  I am happy to say Wicked Hour was equally as good as the first book, and I cannot wait to continue reading more of this wonderful series.

Refresher:  Elisa Sullivan, our heroine, is the only vampire child ever born, and her parents are the powerful leaders of the American vampires that lead the Chicagoland series.  Connor Keen, our hero, is a werewolf and the heir apparent to the North American Central Pack Apex (Alpha).  Both Connor and Elisa have known each other since childhood, though they did not consider themselves friends,  as their families maintained a peaceful friendship, despite the different species (vampire – werewolf).  In the last book, Connor and Elisa become friends, now that they are no longer children, and the chemistry between them continues to heat up.

In Wicked Hour, Connor needs to go to visit the Minnesota Pack, because of an initiation, and also some concerns.  He convinces Elisa to go with him, as she is very good at reading people, as well as Alexei, another werewolf loyal to Connor and his pack.  What they find is a clan in disarray, with the elders and the younger generation becoming separated, especially after the death of one of the younger females.  Connor and Elisa will also discover that the elders are ignoring signs of a dangerous species that is hurting and killing others.  Both will have to find a way to stand up to the clan, and earn their respect, especially since they do not like a vampire in their mist.

What follows is an exciting action filled adventure, especially in the last third of the book as the danger escalates with this new species trying to take over, including killing humans. Connor and Elisa will discover how this new mutant is being created by a magical spell, and must find a way to defeat them, as well gain the trust of the clan.

I thought Elisa was a wonderful heroine; strong, smart, sensible and truly likeable. She does have a secret that Connor knows about; she feels she has a monster inside of her, but when she is in danger, her monster is what will help her fight like a berserker.  As the danger escalates putting their lives in danger, it is Connor who persuades Elisa to use her gift to help save their lives.  It was nice to see her accept her other part, and I look forward when she will be able to use this more when needed.

Chloe Neill gives us another great story, with a wonderful couple, great secondary characters, which include, LuLu, Alexei, Theo and Elisa’s strange cat, Eleanor of Aquitaine.  Wicked Hour was well written by Neill and continues this wonderful Urban Fantasy/Paranormal series, which I can’t wait for the next book.

When their mother’s illness forces the sisters home to North Carolina for the holidays, they’ll rediscover what really matters.

One thing’s for sure—they’ll need the strength of family and the power of sisterhood to remake their lives and reimagine their dreams.

Review:

Meg and Jo by Virginia Kantra is a modern retelling on the classic Little Women which inspired this heartwarming modern tale of four sisters.  For those of you who have read Little Women, the story revolves around the sisters, Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth; in Meg and Jo, this story centers on Meg and Jo, hence the title.

Meg, is the steady and reliable sister, married to John and has two children.  Jo, who wanted to be a writer, moved to New York, only to see her career at a standstill, and to make ends meet, she works as a prep cook for a renowned chef; as well as running a secret website as a food blogger.

With Christmas near, Meg is determined to help her mother and do everything to the point of exhaustion, even turning down her husband’s offer of help.   When the March’s mother Abby, falls and gets hurt, Meg finds herself unable to keep up.  Her husband John, will step up to help more with the kids, as Meg loosens her rigid schedule.

Jo asks her boss to have a few days to go home to North Carolina to help Meg.  When she returns to New York, she runs into her boss a few times during after hours, and slowly, their attraction begins to sizzle and an affair begins.  When Eric (chef) discovers that Jo is running a blog site, and some of his family recipes appear there, he is miffed. At the same time, the mother, Abby needs surgery and then rehab, so Jo quits and returns home to help Meg.

We do get to see Amy and Beth a few times, each having their own things going on; Amy is in Paris on an internship and Beth being offered a role in a play.  It was always nice to see all the family come home for Christmas, as well as for the mother’s surgery.  From what I understand, there will be another book centering on Amy and Beth.  The March father was rarely around, as he travelled to help others, not really being there for the children or the mother.  I was not a fan of the father.

I really loved both Meg and Jo, as they both made great heroines, and the sisterhood between the 4 girls was awesome.   Jo’s storyline revolving around her food blog recipes, as well as well as the heavy traffic from new found fans was well done, and fun to read.

Meg and Jo was a heartwarming and enjoyable story of family, loyalty, daily family problems and the sisterhood we came to love.   It was also sweet to see Meg and John become even closer and Jo and Eric’s wonderful relationship.    Meg and Jo was a sweet, realistic and fun story that was very well written by Virginia Kantra, which I suggest you read.

Bound for Glory by Tess LeSue – Review, Excerpt & Giveaway

Bound for Glory by Tess LeSue – Review, Excerpt & Giveaway

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository / Google Play / Apple

Description:
An unwilling legend and the woman who made him one face off in this epic conclusion to the Frontiers of the Heart series.

He has many names. They call him Deathrider, White Wolf, The Plague of the West. He’s the ice-eyed killer of the plains; the ghost of the trail; the restless spirit who haunts the frontier from California to Missouri, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. They say he seeks vengeance for his murdered people; they say he never sleeps; they say he moves silently through the night and changes form to run with the wolves. And that he is as beautiful as Lucifer.

At least, so they say. Ava Archer wouldn’t know; she’s never seen him. But that doesn’t stop her from writing about him. The Plague of the West is her bread and butter, and after more than a dozen dime novels, she thinks she probably knows Deathrider better than he knows himself, even if she wouldn’t recognize him on the street. If only rumors of his death would stop getting in the way of a good story….

Those damn stories make Nathaniel Rides With Death’s life an absolute misery. Thanks to his unwanted notoriety, he’s hunted like an animal by an endless stream of gunslingers looking to make a name for themselves. When someone close to Nate is shot by one of the gunslingers, Nate decides it’s time to hunt down the novelist at the root of all his troubles. He has a plan to end this farce once and for all….

Review:

Bound for Glory by Tess LeSue is the 4th and final book in her western historical romance Frontiers of the Heart series. We meet our heroine, Ava Archer, who is a famous author, who writes about the wicked west and her tales of the infamous, Deathrider or Plague of the West.  Ava has written many tales in her books about the dangerous Deathrider, who kills at will, and even rapes women along the way.  But Ava bases her stories on the gossip of others, and has never really met him.  Deathrider (Nathaniel), whose life is a mess, based on the untrue stories written by a woman who has ruined his life, with her false stories about him; constantly running from those hunting him.

Ava finds herself in the middle of a hunt, that will bring all the criminals to win a large monetary prize, if they bring back the real Deathrider. Ava is pushed to also join the hunt, especially when a true evil man, Kennedy Voss, wants her.  As she tries to avoid him, she comes across a naked man, who is in bad shape and blind.  Despite her need to move on, Ava agrees to help the desperate man to get him to the next town.   Unbeknown to both of them, they will be surprised when their true identities is revealed.  The injured man is Deathrider, whom Ava thinks is an apache, and Nathaniel, has no idea she is the woman who has caused all his grief.   When Kennedy Voss catches up with them, he forces Ava to join hands with him and pretend that ‘apache” is Deathrider (which he truly is), and they can claim the prize.   There were many comical parts during this adventure, especially when they both discover who the other is.

What follows is a fun adventure with some danger, excitement and the humorous banter between Nathanial and Ava.   I really liked them together, even though we did not think they could their relationship would ever work.  Will Deathrider ever be able to forgive Ava?

I do not want to give spoilers, as it is a fun sotry that you need to read.  It was a very exciting and intense but satisfying conclusion.  Bound for Glory was a sweet fun historical western that was adventurous, romantic and humorous, with a great couple. The adventure was not only wild crazy, but a lot of humor along the way.   When they meet dangerous criminals during their travels, the situation becomes tense, and they manage to escape.  Though their relationship grows, Nathaniel discovers more about Ava that threatens to ruin any possibility of them being together.  But Tess LeSue writes a wonderful conclusion, also giving us a glimpse at the previous books couples.    Very well done.

There was a naked man in the desert.
Ava Archer knew trouble when she saw it, and this was trouble with a capital T. She was alone in the desert, her horse was played out, her canteen was bone-dry, and she was out of bullets. This was no time to be running into natives. Even a solitary one. If she had any sense at all, she would turn right around and run in the other direction . . . but Kennedy Voss was in the other direction, and Kennedy Voss was a mean son of a bitch. Besides, she was desperate for water, and maybe this Indian had some.
She’d thought she’d known thirst before—but this was something else again. She felt made of grit and sand, her every pore a desert in miniature, her tongue thick and swollen in her cottony mouth; even her eyes and nose had dried out. And every thud of her horse’s hooves on the ground made a drumbeat: Water. Water. Water. Water.
So Ava kept on toward the man, pulled by the hope of water. As she plodded closer, she reassured herself that at least there was only one of him, and from what she could see, he was in bad shape: he was squatting under the screamingly bright September sun, naked from the waist up, his body a patchwork of bruises, and both of his eyes swollen shut. Ava doubted he could see her. But he knew she was there, because he rose to his feet at the sound of her tired horse dragging his way.
Oh dear. He wasn’t mostly naked, she saw as he stood: he was completely naked. He was also tall, wide, and terrifyingly powerful. A warrior. He was the color of rosewood, his muscles as hard as if he’d been carved from a tree. And he was covered in tattoos, including a sprawling, intricate pattern in the shape of a bird, which stretched its wings the breadth of his thickly muscled chest. His hair was long, loose, and coated in dust; it fell down his back in tangles to his shoulder blades. He was bruised all over, she realized as her gaze drifted down, wincing as she took in the black blotches on his legs. There was a particularly nasty one on his hip, right next to . . .
Ava tore her gaze away. Hell. She was alone in the desert with a naked man. A big, powerful, wounded naked man. And she was heat struck and ill with thirst, barely able to think straight.
She couldn’t have stumbled onto a little old lady instead? Or a nice family, with a pack of kids? A pack of kids and an icy-cold barrel of water . . .
Ava rubbed her hand across her dry mouth. She felt skin flakes come away on her fingers and winced. She needed to get hold of herself. She was growing delirious. This here was just an injured man. Probably an Apache, considering she was somewhere near the Apacheria. Probably. Maybe. Who knew where the hell she was, to be honest. Purgatory seemed likely. Little old ladies and nice families didn’t go wandering around Purgatory—this was the best she could hope for. She should have been grateful that he was just one beat-up Apache and not a whole party. And at least he wasn’t Kennedy Voss. Without even realizing she was doing it, she glanced over her shoulder, as though thinking about Voss might summon him. That man gave her the willies. Voss was likely to be somewhere nearby (she hadn’t had that much of a head start on him), and here she was about to die of thirst right in his path. She didn’t have time to be distracted by naked strangers.

ABOUT THE BOOK : RELEASE DATE December 3, 2019

Professing her love to her best friend while wearing only her favorite panty set and coat probably wasn’t the best decision Amelia Carr has ever made. In fact, it’s perhaps the worst. But when her family becomes their overprotective selves while encroaching on her life, she makes a rash decision: her brother’s best friend will just have to be her beard. Too bad, he has no idea what he’s in for.

Tucker Reinhard loves women, and they tend to love him even more. Despite the love, he never would have expected Amelia to come up with the plan she poses to him. He’ll go along with it, but only because he doesn’t want to see her hurt—even if that means fighting his best friend.

In the midst of her scheme, Amelia realizes she doesn’t know Tucker as well as she thought. And neither of them are prepared for what happens when they let the façade go and see what truly lies beneath.

•••••••

REVIEW:Reckless With You begins with Amelia Carr finally getting up the nerve to tell her best friend, Tobey, that she’s in love with him and ready to take their relationship to the next level. However, once she reveals her feelings to him, things do not go as planned. Not only does he reject those feelings, he informs her that he’s been seeing someone and things that she’s ‘the one’. Mortified beyond belief, Amelia retreats, only to have her family step up to support her like they always do.

Tucker Reinhard has been a ‘family’ member of the Carrs since he was a kid and one of Amelia’s brothers, Devin, brought him into the fold. He finds himself as protective of Amelia as her brothers. He checks on her a few times, but when Amelia is surprised in a coffee shop by a guy whom her friends want to set her up with, she immediately goes on defense and proclaims she is seeing someone………none other than Tucker Reinhard. Once she tells him what she’s done, he agrees to be her fake boyfriend, even though they both know that lying to everyone is wrong.

It doesn’t take long for Amelia to question everything she’s ever thought she knew about love: did she really love Tobey? Because it doesn’t feel like it when the feelings she has for Tucker start seeping in. As for Tucker, he finds himself, for the first time in his life, wondering what it may actually be like to settle down and have a family of his own. However, when a woman from Tucker’s past reappears with jaw-dropping news, he does what he does best………..pushes people away, including Amelia.

Reckless With You is another nicely written story by Ryan. The characters are engaging and very well written. Amelia is a bit of a loose canon at times, but steadfast in her belief that love and family will get you through anything. Tucker had a hard start in life but hit the jackpot when he met Devin Carr. Even though he knew he wasn’t to blame for his past, he was bound and determined to not make the mistake of letting a real relationship with a woman put his sheltered heart at risk. However, once he realizes that what he’s been pushing away is exactly what he needs, your heart will swell with emotion. The chemistry between Amelia and Tucker is palpable, but what drew me in was the pure emotion between not only the two main characters, but the secondary characters as well. The world that Ryan has created in this series will leave you wishing you were a part of it and I can’t wait for the next one. Well done, Carrie Ann Ryan! Very, very well done!
