ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 20, 2020

Persephone Abbot is in my debt.
Exactly the way I want it.

The sins of the father should not be inherited by the daughter. It’s unfair, I know, but since when has life been fair?

The events that brought us here began on Halloween night more than five years ago in that chapel ruin. I saved her that night. Carried her home through the storm that was the omen warning of what would come.

I didn’t know it then, but I do now.

Her father destroyed something precious. Someone innocent.
I don’t believe in an eye for an eye. I won’t just balance the scales of justice, I’ll tip them so far in my favor his legacy will topple.

I’ll take that which is most precious. His daughter. I’ll own her. Make her mine.

But I’m not the only monster lurking in the dark corners of her world. She’ll sleep in the bed of the beast but I’ll keep her safe. Protect her fiercely.

And maybe I’ll keep her.

Set in the Benedetti Mafia World, Descent is a brand new Standalone Enemies-to-Lovers Romance.

•••••••••

REVIEW: DESCENT by Natasha Knight is the second instalment in the author’s adult, contemporary, dark, erotic romance series set in the Benedetti Brothers Mafia World. This is businessman Hayden Montgomery, and Persephone Abbot’s story line. DESCENT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. You do not have to have read the previous series to follow the story or timeline.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line content, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Hayden and Persephone) DESCENT follows in the aftermath of an accident that left Persephone’s father clinging to life. With the family business and empire crumbling and nearing foreclosure Persephone’s only option to sign over control to the enemy, a man who is hoping to destroy what’s left of the Abbot empire. Enter businessman Hayden Montgomery, and the man with whom Persephone will fall in love. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Persephone and Hayden, and the potential fall-out as sins of the past threaten to destroy them all.

Persephone Abbot never knew to what extent her father had failed but a vendetta against her family finds our heroine facing a life of indentured servitude to a man who is seeking revenge- a debt owed with her life and her self-esteem; a humiliation that would continue for as long as Hayden wanted. Childhood friends with the Montgomery siblings, Persephone would be destroyed when death would take one of their own.

Hayden Montgomery not only wants vengeance but he will take everything including our story line heroine in an effort to get what he wants, and done. Believing Persephone’s father betrayed the family, Hayden seeks revenge by destroying the one person that mattered –Persephone herself.

The relationship between Hayden and Persephone is a contemptuous at best; a forced enemies to lovers relationship in an effort to take control of what was, and what will never be. Every aspect of Persephone’s life will be controlled by a man determined to get revenge, control that pushes the boundaries of questionable consent, and forcible $ex. The $ex scenes are aggressive and rough but I struggled with the use of a certain four-letter word in my ‘romance’ story lines.

We are introduced to Persephone’s younger sister Lizzie and their father Quincy Abbot and their step-mother Irina; Hayden’s twin brother Ares, and their brother Jonas, as well as their father Jeremiah Montgomery. There is a cameo appearance by Dominic Benedetti, his wife Gia, and mobster Angus Scave.

DESCENT is a story of fracture family dynamics; of secrets and lies; unforgiveable sins and retribution. The premise is dark and gritty; the characters are edgy, tragic and broken; the romance is questionable but passionate.

It’s fitting, actually. Almost poetic.

A Valentine Proposal by Viv Royce – a Review

A Valentine Proposal by Viv Royce – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play

Description:
Just as free-spirited bookstore employee Cleo Davis faces closure of her beloved shop, the owner informs her it will continue as part of the successful Stephens chain. When the chain’s risk assessor, the very reserved, very attractive Mark Stephens, enters the store to look over her business plan, Cleo clashes with him right away. Oil and water have nothing on them.

Mark has always followed the rules. But the minute he steps into vibrant and spunky Cleo’s store, he knows he’s in trouble. One moment he’s in her “craft corner” painting bookends with kids, the next in a bidding war with Cleo at a charity auction. He can’t deny that opposites attract, and Cleo’s vivacious personality has him rethinking his life in more ways than one.

But when Cleo’s store officially becomes part of the bookstore chain, Mark will become her boss…and completely off limits.

Review:

I really enjoyed A Valentine Proposal by Viv Royce.  It kept reminding me of all those Hallmark movies that are so popular right now.  I wouldn’t be surprised if it actually got turned into one of those movies one day.  Set in a small town, girl next door type heroine, big city bookstore chain hero type, the two meet, clash over their thoughts for the town’s bookstore, have an instant attraction to one another, but are on opposite sides of the fence regarding what should happen in this small town regarding the bookstore that our heroine just happens to work at.

I found I had an instant attraction to our would-be couple of Cleo and Mark.  Even though they are at odds with each other regarding the bookstore, you can feel their instant attraction and feel the chemistry between them coming off the pages.  Their interactions with each other are fun, flirty and sexy at times.  Cleo being the door next door type isn’t afraid to get dirty, have fun and throw caution to the wind.  Matter of fact when Mark first encounters her she’s laying on the floor, inside a castle made out of books looking for a stuffed teddy bear for one of her customers.  It was quite comical and set the tone for our story’s couple.  Cleo and Mark’s  adventure takes flight from there and never wavers or dulls.  That being said, it was fun watching Mark let go of his stuffy big city boy mentality and start to adopt Cleo’s small town ideas for her bookstore.  This other side of Mark was a pleasant surprise in their adventure and I really liked this side of him.  Cleo and Mark seem to balance each other out in all the right ways.

I found that both characters are able to hold their own in a scene, thus allowing for a good flow to their adventure all the while keeping you the reader invested in the story.  Viv Royce does a wonderful job keeping you the reader invested in the story because she’s created two characters who are well rounded with enough back story that they don’t feel one dimensional.  When this happens it helps to give more depth and heart to the story and this one had it in spades.  If you like stories with a small town feel, a little drama and angst between our hero and heroine then A Valentine Proposal is for you.

Until next time,  happy reading everyone!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date: January 20, 2020

There’s no turning back. I can’t go home a failure–again. Everyone wants to use me, make me their pawn, but I have other plans. I will win this election or die trying.

Randi Sawyer
It started with a shady business proposal I should’ve turned down. Now here I am pretending to be someone I’m not, and bonus, I’m at the mercy of a man whose joy comes from my failures. The deeper I sink into DC’s seedy political scene the more I realize I can’t trust anyone if I’m going to make it out alive. Until him. Secret Service agent Trey Benson is bitter, jaded, and oh so hot with his mischievous smirk and cocky attitude. He hates me, just like everyone else, but he might just be who I need to survive this mess I’ve landed myself in.

Trey Benson
Forced onto her protection detail, I’m certain she’s just another Political Barbie in this city. I should know–I’ve dated most of them. Except she’s not. Funny, foulmouthed and crazy as hell, not to mention drop-dead gorgeous, Randi Sawyer just might be the one person who can make a difference in DC–and in me. Too bad the boss says she’s off-limits, that it’s too risky for her career and mine. Good thing I’ve never been great at sticking to orders.

Power Play is the first book in the five-book Power Play series. Each book cannot be read as a standalone. All five books follow one main couple’s relationship as it grows through a five-year time period.

••••••••

REVIEW: POWER PLAY is the first instalment in Kennedy Mitchell’s contemporary, adult POWER PLAY erotic, political romance series focusing on attorney / small town Mayor Randi Sawyer, and thirty-eight year old, Secret Service agent Trey Benson.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Trey and Randi) POWER PLAY sets the stage for the author’s five-part Power Play series. Randi Sawyer was born on the wrong side of the tracks to a mother whose addictions are destroying their lives. As a single mother of a teen-aged girl, Randi struggles to make ends meet until the day presidential hopeful, and the bane of Randi’s existence Kyle Birmingham makes Randi an offer she cannot refuse but an offer that comes with caveats. Seeing an opportunity, Randi makes a counter offer whereby our heroine will become the vice-presidential running mate to a man she disrespects and despises more than anyone could imagine. But..the counter-offer pushes aside another very powerful man, a man who is determined to destroy Randi’s life. With the run for office in full swing, Randi is assigned security, security that doesn’t want anything to do with our story line heroine. Enter former US soldier and Secret Service Agent Trey Benson, and the man with whom Randi will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Randi and Trey, as Randi battles the odds and Kyle Birmingham, on the way to the Oval Office.

Trey Benson has loved and lost. As a member of one Washington’s political elite families, Kyle refuses to follow in the family footsteps thereby relegating himself as the black sheep and outsider. Having seen his share of stuck up, snotty Washington posers, Kyle immediately paints Randi Sawyer with the same brush he paints most of the wanna-bes in political life but no one knows the real Randi, and Kyle is about to get a lesson in judgement he will never forget. Randi Sawyer is desperate to make good on a promise to her daughter, a promise that now comes with the possibility of hiding the truth about family and relationships. Once Randi accepts Kyle Birmingham’s offer, she finds herself tied to a man who holds all of the power, power that could very well destroy our heroine’s life.

The relationship between Trey and Randi begins acrimoniously as Trey struggles with everything Randi represents. Believing our heroine to be a cold-hearted women with aspirations of grandeur, Trey struggles with his attraction to Randi, an attraction that will find our couple battling between head and heart as the campaign begins to take an ominous turn. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Presidential hopeful Kyle Birmingham, and former running mate Shawn Whit; Randi’ daughter Taeler, and her father Ben; Randi’ mother; and Secret Service agents Tank and Gremlin.

POWER PLAY is a story of power and control; betrayal and vengeance; friendship, relationships and love. The character driven premise is intriguing, and fast paced; the characters are intelligent, wounded, powerful and animated; the romance is seductive and sensitive. POWER PLAY is story that makes your think about the what-ifs, and the current political situation playing out on the world stage. I will add that the use of a certain four-letter word, although not applied in the context of romance, is a bit of an issue for this particular reader.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 17, 2019

Elizabeth Shields has always craved adventure. That’s why she went to work for the CIA straight out of college. That’s probably also the reason she feels drawn to Quinn McManus, a veteran of the British Special Air Service. The big Scotsman gives off a dangerous vibe that she can’t resist. Yet, resist she must. She and Quinn both work for Cobra International Security, which has a strict policy against hook-ups between employees, and she’s too much of a professional to date a coworker. She and Quinn can never be more than friends. But when his best buddy from the SAS is found murdered on the streets of Glasgow, Elizabeth will do all she can to help Quinn cope with the loss … and find the culprit.

Quinn McManus escaped a life of poverty by joining the British Army. His fellow soldiers became his family, forging a bond stronger than blood. Now, with his best friend dead, he needs Elizabeth’s special skills to help track down the killer. He has no intention of getting physical with her. Rules are rules. But as their unofficial investigation heats up, so does the attraction between them. Still, he refuses to surrender. Because if they cross the line from friends to lovers, there will be no going back.

But some battles can’t be won, and soon the passion between Quinn and Elizabeth ignites, hot enough to melt the cold Glasgow winter. As they move closer to the truth and to each other, they find themselves in the sights of a stone-cold killer, who won’t hesitate to destroy them both to keep a terrible secret.

•••••••

REVIEW:HARD JUSTICE is the third instalment in Pamela Clare’s contemporary, adult COBRA ELITE erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Cobra International Security. This is former SAS agent Quinn McManus, and former CIA agent Elizabeth Shields’ story line. HARD JUSTICE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. COBRA ELITE is a spin-off from the author’s I-Team Series.

Told from dual third person perspectives ( Elizabeth and Quinn) HARD JUSTICE follows in the aftermath of the murder of Quinn McManus’ best friend Jack Murray. Quinn and Jack were soldiers in the British Army but upon release Quinn headed to America and joined Cobra International Security, while Jack remained in Europe working as an independent contractor but Jack’s death pulls Quinn to his boyhood home, a home that brings with it too many memories of sins of the past. With the unexpected help of Cobra teammate Elizabeth Shields, Quinn goes on the hunt for a killer, a killer that will target our story line couple. What ensues is the building relationship between Quinn and Elizabeth, and the potential fall-out as Quinn and Elizabeth rattle too many cages in their search for the truth.

Quinn McManus is devastated by the loss of his best friend but days before his murder, Jack left a message for Quinn, a message that meant nothing yet so much more. Working with former CIA operative Elizabeth Shields finds Quinn in the middle of a possible terrorist threat, and the potential to uncover what the police have been unable to do but going home meant facing his past, a past he was hoping to forget.

The relationship between Quinn and Elizabeth is one of forbidden attraction. Since meeting Elizabeth years earlier, Quinn hasn’t stopped thinking about the possible future, a future cooled by the workplace policy of no office romances. Neither one wants to lose their job but time spent together meant time to explore their mutual attraction. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to the Cobra International Security Team: Co-owners Javier Corbray, and Derek Tower; Navy SEAL Dylan Cruz; Malik Jones and Thor Isaksen; as well as Jack’s wife Ava, and local Scottish law enforcement The requisite evil has many faces.

HARD JUSTICE is a story of friendship, vengeance, power and control; romance and relationships; heart break and love. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the characters are colorful, energetic and strong; the romance is steamy and seductive. HARD JUSTICE is a fantastic addition to the author’s Cobra Elite series.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 20, 2020

Investigator, Sergeant Logan Farrell, has never been convinced the human race deserves saving. But it looks like he’s got the job anyway.

It’s been five hundred years since we fled the remnants of a dying Earth in search of a new home. Twenty-four ships, each carrying ten thousand Chosen Ones. All sleeping peacefully…until people start dying in cryo.

Malfunction or murder? Hopefully, the former—a serial killer in the fleet would be drastic for morale. But Logan is determined to find the truth. Unfortunately, he’s got a new partner—and he works best alone.

Katia Mendoza, hot-shot homicide detective, has been woken from cryo to assist with the investigation. But is she really interested in solving the case, or does she have her own agenda?

Before he can answer that question, though, they become targets themselves.

Nothing like a few near misses with death to bring a couple together, and Logan finds himself falling for the alluring detective. But he doesn’t know that Katia is hiding a secret.

It’s not only humans who fled the dying Earth.

•••••••••

REVIEW: MALFUNCTION is the first instalment in Nina Croft’s adult, sci-fi DARK DESIRES SERIES: ORIGINS paranormal, fantasy romance series. This is military investigator Sergeant Logan Farrell, and homicide detective Katia Mendoza’s story line. MALFUNCTION and the Dark Desires Series: Origins is a prequel series to the author’s DARK DESIRES series set five hundred years earlier. You do not have to have read the original series to understand or follow the new time line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Logan and Katia) MALFUNCTION focuses on the search for the truth. Five hundred years earlier Earth was dying, and seventy thousand of Earth’s Chosen had set off in search of a new planet able to sustain human life. Fast forward five centuries wherein no planet has yet to be found, but several mysterious and questionable deaths in the cryo-tubes, on each of seven ships, have warranted an investigation. Enter Earth’s former military investigator Sergeant Logan Farrell, and homicide detective Katia Mendoza, who, themselves, have been sleeping in suspended animation for close to five hundred years. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Katia and Logan, and the potential fall-out as Katia and Logan become targets of a psychotic mind.

Someone or something is slowly killing several members of The Chosen but a conspiracy based in theory surrounding Earth’s twentieth century terrorist organizations forces Logan and Katia to call off the investigation, an investigation they refuse to shut down or willingly let go. Working together to uncover the truth, our couple will find themselves targeted, on several occasions, including the total destruction and annihilation of ten thousand people, in an effort to hide the truth.

The relationship between Logan and Katia is one of immediate attraction but Katia hides a secret-she isn’t what she appears to be. After several attempts on her life, Logan begins to believe that Katia is the target but no one is prepared for the fall-out of one person’s need for revenge. From a vampire pilot, to werewolf security, demons, and shifting panthers, Logan will soon discover that his life literally is in the hands of the people in charge. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

MALFUNCTION looks at some of the background and introduces several of the characters we meet in the author’s Dark Desires Series including vampire and rogue pilot Ricardo Sanchez, and Callum Meridian, founding member of the Collective. The premise is entertaining and fascinating ; the characters are energetic, playful and colorful; the romance is captivating and lively. MALFUNCTION is a wonderful addition to Nina Croft’s Dark Desires sci-fi /paranormal series.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 16, 2020

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had to hide who I am. What I am.

They had me play the sheep. They had me blend in. They marked me and sealed my power.

Now I have my freedom, because everyone who’s ever wanted me confined is dead.

I could have changed it. I could have altered the course of fate. I could have saved the unseelie queen.
I didn’t.

Vlari has always known her place: as far away from court as the unseelie queen can send her.

The youngest royal, born in an impoverished household, she endeavoured to earn her keep as an assistant. Her one aspiration? Avoiding the popular crowd of gentry fae who prey on the weak, and their dark, enticing leader, the mysterious Drusk.
Until the world implodes around her.

She has two options. Fade with rest of the unseelie kingdom, or protect a court that has never cared for her.

••••••••••••

REVIEW:This book has a different feel about it. The world the author has created is very well written. The characters are thought out well, and the secondary characters all seem to have purpose. It’s a fast paced book, and the action is all well scripted.

It’s written in the person’s point of view. And we get to see it all through Vlari’s eyes.

Nevlaria (Vlari) has never really known love and affection, no one wanted her. She never felt part of a family or community.
Ridiculed at school, it’s followed her all her life. A weak link in her family. Not to be trusted.

And now, now she is to be married off, like a piece of meat. A loveless marriage, one only of connivence. For the good of the Queen and her family. But Vlari doesn’t want that, but what Vlari wants doesn’t matter…..

When Vlari and Drusk meet, it brings back lots of unpleasant memories, (this isn’t the first time she’s seen him, they attended the same school, and that wasn’t pleasant either!)

Rystan Drusk is a Myst, a shadow wielder, as long as he’s in the dark, he can summon and control shadows, to conceal him, and transport him, and even destroy. But he’s a commoner (Vlari is royalty) but he has something that draws people to him, and he uses that ability to his advantage.

The attraction is all on Vlari’s side, (whenever they have met, Drusk has nothing but scorn or a sneering amusement on his face) she’s dreamed about him, and thought about him often, wondering what he’s doing now.

And when the kingdom is attacked, and everyone slaughtered. Vlari is looked upon to organise and lead. But will she? Why should she?

The ending is a surprise, and the epilogue gives us a glimpse into the next book. It’s a two book story, and I hope to read the next part in this story.

•••••••

REVIEW:Misadventures with a Firefighter begins with Cara Murphy getting ready to go out with her friends for one last celebration before school starts. She is a kindergarten teacher and loves her job and has her future mapped out. Once she and her friends hit one of their favorite bars, it doesn’t take Cara long to spot a good looking man, Noah Hughes, who piques her interest. When she approaches him, it doesn’t take long for sparks to fly. It also doesn’t take long for either of them to decide to leave the bar for a little one on one time. After a steamy night together, they both decide that maybe they will see each other again. Cara is all about hookups and is not interested in being tied down to one man. But, what can it hurt to see him again?

When school finally starts, Cara is in her room meeting her new class and their parents. As she is meeting one five year old, she is stunned to see his father is none other than Noah. Cara knows that if she continues seeing Noah that it could jeopardize her job at school. They are both insanely attracted to each other. Noah is a widowed single father who dotes on his son, but he can’t deny their chemistry. Even though Cara doesn’t really do relationships, she can’t deny their chemistry either.

Cara and Noah decide to give a relationship a shot, only to have it all backfire big time for her. She shuts Noah out as she tries to pull her perfectly constructed life back together. However, Noah has other plans. When Cara finds out that someone she thought was a good friend is the one who torpedoed her career, she is stunned. When all the cards are put on the table, they both have to decide what is worth fighting for.

Misadventures with a Firefighter is great addition to the Misadventures series. The chemistry between Cara and Noah is palpable. The few secondary characters we’re introduced to are well written. The story is fast paced and leaves you wanting more. Noah’s back story is one of heartache which will endear him to the reader and Cara’s independence is a pleasant change. She’s a strong woman who stands up for herself and didn’t need rescuing. If you’re a fan of the genre, you’ll certainly enjoy this installment. Well done, Julie Morgan!

“This isn’t a marriage. It’s a contract singed in blood.”

Dangerous and feared.
Those words describe my future husband. Who just so happens to also be my ex-boyfriend.
It’s complicated. Two years ago, he broke my heart when he left me to do his father’s bidding. After months of crying, I finally accepted he was gone and wasn’t going to look back. That maybe he’d never loved me at all. I never wanted to see Luca again.
Now a cruel twist of fate has signed me over to him in a heartless deal. I’m his. He thinks he did me a favor, but I feel like I’ve been given a death sentence. He doesn’t want to get married because he still loves me. No, he did it for money. More power.
I’m going to be a mafia wife. And there’s only one way out of it. Death.
But as it turns out, someone else doesn’t want me to marry the ruthless Luca Bianchi. And if he has his way, I’ll see that early grave.

REVIEW: It’s twisted, dark, sexy and scary, but I can’t take my eyes off the pages!!

Now this is not a story you read anywhere else besides your house, it will leave you need a cold shower or a free afternoon.

I was expecting this to be another typical arranged marriage/dark mafia romance book, but boy oh boy was I frightfully surprised.

Luca Bianchi was raised in the life of the mafia and has never known anything else, until he meets Haven. A free spirited, girl next-store college girl. With a few years younger than him there start is rocky, but Haven falls fast, and so does Luca. Nothing last forever and Luca breaks Havens heart and leaves her. The woman is heartbroken, and determined to never make that mistake again. Time goes by, and their paths cross again…

Oh this book…you feel every emotion going on, the pain from the break up, the passion of each kiss, the anger from every screaming match, and the vulnerability from each forgiving moment. Shantel can write emotion that jumps off the pages and wriggles it way right into the feels that for sure.

This one one of the first books of 2020 and what a way to start the new year off!!
