ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 25, 2020

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men series comes an irresistible and suspenseful romance between a tough Texas Ranger and his first love–a woman in danger who insists she doesn’t need his protection.

Hill Gamble is a model lawman: cool and collected, with a confident swagger to boot. Too bad all that Texas charm hasn’t gotten him anywhere in his personal life, especially since the only girl he ever loved has always been off-limits. But then Hill is assigned to investigate her father’s mysterious death, and he’s forced back to the town–and the woman–he left behind.

When Hill left Loveless, he broke Kody Lawton’s already battered heart. And now that he’s working on her father’s case, avoiding him is impossible. She can handle Hill and her unwanted feelings–until he puts his life on the line to protect her. Suddenly, Kody realizes that Hill could be taken away from her…for good.

••••••••

REVIEW:The second in the Loveless series by Jay Crownover is one of lose, love and vulnerablilty..

Kody Lawton has known pain and lose, she is old friends of both, but when her father turns up dead, the one person in the world she never wanted to see is the one she secretly needs the most. Kody is a spitfire through and through, she takes care of herself and doesn’t trust many people. She learned the hard way what that trust can do when it’s broken.

Hill Gamble left the town of Loveless in his near view mirror for a good reason, and his reason for being be is just as good.

Kody Lawton.

The one woman that wants nothing to do with him might need his help more than either of them know. Hill has lived his life on the straight and narrow, a Texas ranger to boot, he has returned to Loveless to help in the investigation of the Lawton patriarch. However, his ugly past and all too complicated present collided and long ago emotions that he thought he berried are making their way to the surface…

Jay Crownover writes an adventure that will twist the heart, engage the mind and warm the soul. A cowboy romance about forgiveness, love and hope all rolled into a plot with twists that no one could see coming. I very much enjoyed this story, just as I look forward to more that will hopefully come.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 25, 2020

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Donna Grant comes a new story in her Dark Kings series…

Destinies can’t be ignored. No one knows that better than Annita. For as long as she can remember, it’s been foretold she would find a dragon. A real-life dragon. She’s beginning to think it was all some kind of mistake until she’s swimming in one of the many caves around the island and discovers none other than a dragon. There is no fear as she approaches, utterly transfixed at the sight of the creature. Then he shifts into the shape of a thoroughly gorgeous man who spears her with bright blue eyes. In that instant, she knows her destiny has arrived. And the dragon holds the key to everything.

All Royden wanted was to find an item his brother buried when they were children. It was supposed to be a quick and simple trip, but he should’ve known nothing would be easy with enemies like the Dragon Kings have. Royden has no choice but to trust the beguiling woman who tempts him like no other. And in doing so, they unleash a love so strong, so pure that nothing can hold it back.

••••••••

REVIEW:DRAGON LOST is the 16.5 instalment and novella in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal, fantasy, romance series and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is beige Dragon King Royden Dreagan, and Annita Dragoumis’ story line. DRAGON CLAIMED can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order.

SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Silver Dragon Mikkel had declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides but someone or something is determined to push the Dragons back into another war; Mikkel wanted to become King of the Silvers, Queen Usaeil of the Light Fae had set her sights on claiming King Constantine as her mate, and the Dark Fae want the Dragon’s hidden weapon in order to rule Scotland and the rest of the world. With the emergence of a group known as the Others, the Dark Kings are facing several supernatural enemies determined to destroy them all.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Royden and Annita) DRAGON LOST follows beige Dragon King shifter Royden as he searches his cave on the isle of Crete, for a family heirloom lost hundreds of years before but Royden is stunned when a Greek beauty witnesses his shifting, and accepts that there are dragons in the world. Annita Dragoumis has always known her destiny was to find a dragon but our heroine had no idea if the dragon was a fantasy, a reality or a small toy left behind by a heart broken child. Meeting Royden meant her destiny had been fulfilled but Royden struggles with the knowledge that Annita is aware of the dragons’ existence. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Royden and Annita, and the potential fall-out as Annita must chose between her family back home, or starting over with Royden at Dreagan in Scotland.

The relationship between Royden and Annita begins cautiously but there are some details to Annita’s destiny that now even Annita has been apprised. Both her mother and father know some details of the ‘seer’s’ predictions but Annita was never to have known about her future destiny. Royden struggles with his attraction to Annita knowing that the war with the Others could destroy them all but the heart wants his happily ever after, and Royden offers up a lifetime to his future mate. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Annita’s mother and father, and through memories of the past, Annita’s great aunt Chara, a seer who proclaimed Annita’s destiny to find her Dragon King.

DRAGON LOST is a fast paced story line of destiny and love. The premise is engaging; the romance is tender and captivating; the characters are colorful and dynamic but saying that I struggled to understand where Royden’s story line fits into the series other than to gift another Dark King with his fated mate.

You Had Me At Wolf (Wolff Brothers #1) by Terry Spear-a review

You Had Me At Wolf (Wolff Brothers #1) by Terry Spear-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo / Google Play

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 25, 2020

First in a thrilling new series from USA Today bestseller Terry Spear featuring the hot, powerful Wolff brothers!

A wolf on a mission cannot be deterred…
The hot, powerful Wolff brothers have moved to the outskirts of Silver Town and opened a ski lodge. They’ve always wanted to live in a wolf-controlled area, and now they have their chance. They’re settling in for a quiet winter, when their lives suddenly become way more exciting than they’d ever planned.

Private Investigator and Gray wolf shifter Josie Grayson is hot on the trail of a dangerous criminal hiding out at the ski lodge when her partner takes ill and must leave her to pursue the mission alone. Blake Wolff steps in–he can’t resist the allure of this brilliant and focused she-wolf whose presence awakens a long dormant yearning in his heart.

As pursuit of their quarry heats up, Blake has a mission of his own…to convince Josie that there’s more to life than work…and that she’s his perfect mate.

••••••

REVIEW:YOU HAD ME AT WOLFF is the first instalment in Terry Spear’s contemporary, adult WOLFF BROTHERS paranormal, romance series-a spin off from the author’s Silver Town Wolf series. This is Private Investigator, former special agent in the US Army Criminal Investigation Command, and Gray wolf shifter Nicole Grayson, and Wolff Timberline ski lodge owner Blake Wolff’s story line. You do not have to have read the original series to understand or follow Wolff Brothers.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Nicole and Blake) YOU HAD ME AT WOLFF follows the building relationship between is Private Investigator, former special agent in the US Army Criminal Investigation Command, and Gray wolf shifter Nicole Grayson, and ski lodge owner Blake Wolff. Nicole Grayson, a gray wolf shifter is an insurance fraud investigator, and her latest assignment took her to Silver Town, a shifter run town, where the Wolff brothers owned and ran a local ski lodge. When her partner in the investigations took sick, Nicole found herself face to face with Blake Wolff, and the Wolff extended pack and family, as our heroine investigated the case of insurance fraud involving a once-dead client who is very much alive. What ensues is the building relationship between Nicole and Blake, as they work together to reveal the truth.

The relationship between Blake and Nicole is one of immediate attraction but Nicole is only in town for a short time as she investigates a case of fraud. While Nicole had no intention of extending her time in Silver town, the developing relationship between herself and Blake forces Nicole to reconsider the future, and the future of her own extended family. Blake knows that Nicole is the one but they must first uncover the truth with the help of his Pack, and extended family. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Blake’s large extended family including his brothers Landon, Brandon and sisters Kayla and Roxie, Pack leaders Darien and Lelandi Silver, Nicole’s brother Nate, as well as several members of the Silver Town Pack previously introduced in the original series.

YOU HAD ME AT WOLF is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love. The slow building premise is entertaining but so much of the story line felt like filler-from the many detailed dinners to side stories, that had nothing to do with the overall premise. The characters are numerous, colorful and energetic; the romance is passionate but I didn’t feel the palpable sexual attraction.

Once in a Blue Moon by Amanda Ashby – a Review

Once in a Blue Moon by Amanda Ashby – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple

Description:
Florist Laney George has a successful business, amazing friends and big, big dreams––oh, and a broken heart. But she’s working through that last one. Then the man she hoped to never see again shows up––and Laney’s carefully ordered plans are experiencing technical difficulties.

Celebrated Author Adam Fitzpatrick planned to be in St. Clair for no more than a day. Sign the books, and get out. Same story, different day. What he didn’t count on was Laney George, who happens to be the star of his somewhat fictional tale. She broke his heart years ago, and he’d gone a bit mad. Okay, maybe a lot mad––and he put everything in his book, never imagining it would be a world-wide best seller.

Now that he’s seen her again, he wants answers. But it isn’t just her that draws him in. It’s the town, something is happening and for the first time in years…he can write again. If only he could convince the woman who hates him most to start a new chapter in their story.

Review:

Once in a Blue Moon by Amanda Ashby is the 2nd book in her Belles of St. Clair series. Laney runs a flower shop in a small town, she loves the job and where she lives. But when Laney has an itch, she just has to scratch it, that leads her to all sorts of predicaments… adopting a dog, marrying a man after one date, and buying property to boost her flower sales. She’s also a widow, almost five years now, and she still misses him.

Adam is a famous author, but he never forgot St. Clair or a certain someone in that little town. She broke his heart and he wrote about it…..

When Adam is seen in town, Laney panics, will the town put the clues together and find out she was the one who stalked? Except it wasn’t really her stalking him, everything he wrote about her was lies, (well some of the milder things were her, but only fun and silly things) it was his way of venting, she’d broken his heart and he’d been angry. She hadn’t let him explain himself.

But that hasn’t stop Laney from worrying about the community putting all the clues together and working out that Laney was the infamous “Nina”. And I got the impression she was upset that he had twisted what they had into a story. But again I feel we were missing pieces but that they will be added along the way.

The characters were nicely written. I had to laugh at Adam, realising he could write whilst being around Laney, but battling his anger and then guilt regarding Laney. Could he convince her to give him another chance?

Laney was a hoot, she usually acts on itches she gets, but with Adam, she was determined not to. Her quirky manner was fun (weaving flowers through her dogs collar and painting it’s “nails”) regarding Adam with scepticism, if he wrote about them the first time, what’s your stop him from doing it again?

This is book two in the series.  I’ve read the first book, but I don’t think it makes to much of a difference if read out of order.

ABOUT THE BOOK:Release Date February 24, 2020

The beginning of my sophomore year in college was off to a rough start.
On the first day of orientation, I had an altercation with an infuriating British dude in a campus bathroom.
(The ladies’ room was out of order. So, I used the men’s room. Don’t judge.)
I got home later that night and realized that the foreign student we were expecting to rent a room in my parents’ house was allergic to our cat.
So, the spare room went to someone else: Caleb—the British guy from the men’s room.
And so it began…my love-hate story with Caleb Yates. Or was it hate-love in that order?

The guy knew how to push every one of my buttons.
Sometimes I’d email him to express my aggravation and disdain.
He’d actually rewrite my own words and send them back to me.
That was the type of infuriating person Caleb was.
So frustrating.
And…
Sometimes incredibly funny and endearingly sweet.
And hot.

He eventually grew on me, and Caleb soon became one of my best friends that year.
Too bad he was headed back to England soon, so nothing could happen between us—for so many reasons.
I definitely couldn’t fall in love with him, especially since all we had was just one year.

REVIEW:  JUST ONE YEAR by Penelope Ward is a contemporary, new adult, stand alone romance story line focusing on nineteen year old Teagan Carroll, and twenty-two year old, British exchange student Caleb Yates.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Teagan and Caleb) JUST ONE YEAR follows the building friendship, relationship and love between nineteen year old Teagan Carroll, and twenty-two year old, British exchange student Caleb Yates. Caleb Yates is older than most college freshmen but a year in Boston meant a year running from his problems back home. Finding himself a temporary member of the Carroll household brought Caleb up close and personal with the woman with whom he would fall in love. What ensues is the back and forth, yin and yang, up and down building romance and relationship between Teagan and Caleb, and the potential fall-out as Caleb’s time in America comes to an end.

Caleb Yates struggles with the demons from his past but for a short time he is able to push the demons aside as he navigates college life in America. Boarding at the Carroll home, Caleb feels like part of the family, a family wherein his attraction to Teagan is hidden behind friendship and sisterly-love. Teagan Carroll has always felt like she never belonged having never known her mother, a woman with a questionable reputation. Hiding in plain site only made matters worse when her attraction to Caleb felt one-sided and wrong.

The relationship between Caleb and Teagan begins acrimoniously when Teagan finds herself in the men’s washroom, only to come face to face with Caleb Yates. From that moment on, the push and pull between Teagan and Caleb is often offset by Teagan’s jealousy, and Caleb’s friendship with other girls. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

JUST ONE YEAR is a story of family, friendships, and relationships; a story of secrets and heart break; of regrets and love. The premise is heart warming and engaging; the characters are real and unforced; the romance is flirty and tender.

REVIEW:ONCE A MYTH is the first instalment in Pepper Winters’ contemporary, adult GODDESS ISLES dark, romance series focusing on billionaire Sullivan Sinclair, and his captive Eleanor ‘Jinx’ Grace. The GODDESS ISLES series is set in the same world as the author’s MONSTERS IN THE DARK. Tess Snow makes a cameo appearance.

WARNING: Due to the nature and dark content of the story line premise, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Eleanor and Sullivan) ONCE A MYTH focuses on the sex trafficking of female slaves. At twenty-one years old, Eleanor Grace was kidnapped, violated and drugged on her way to becoming a sexual slave. A prisoner in a gilded cage, Eleanor, along with several other girls, are either the willing sexual partner in a fantasy island paradise, or find themselves forced into a lifetime of suffering and pain. Purchased by billionaire Sullivan Sinclair, Eleanor is defiant to the end but a defiance that will come with price. Four years a slave, Eleanor is about to discover that all is not well on the island paradise or with the man who is now controls every aspect of her life.

ONCE A MYTH is a dark, raw and gritty story line as only Pepper Winters’ is able to write. An emotional, heart breaking and staggering story of one woman’s life as it slowly spirals out of control, a life that is no longer hers to command. Strong willed and energetic, stubborn and challenging, Eleanor’s insubordination makes her the perfect foil for any number of men willing to pay the price but it is Sullvan Sinclair who may pay the biggest price of all.

Pepper Winters pulls the reader into a thought-provoking story line of sexual slavery, power and control; of abuse and assault; of loss of freedom with no way out. ONCE A MYTH is a tragic, powerful and ill-fated story line.

“You’re saying you’re a loss?”
“I’m saying I’ll cause you untold problems if you keep me here.” I narrowed my eyes. “I’m not afraid of you.”
He stepped toward me quickly, crowding me, bringing naked, masculine flesh and scorching body heat.
I back pedalled, losing ground, hating myself the second I tripped.
He laughed coldly. “Not afraid? I think you’re fucking petrified.”
Digging my toes into the sand, I cocked my chin. “I meant what I said, Sully Sinclair. Keep me trapped against my consent and I will make you pay. I’ll find some way to curse—”
“Curse me?” His arm shot up, his hand sinking into my hair. In a single heartbeat, we went from apart to linked. His fingers curled tight around the strands, tugging my scalp, sending more chills scattering. “You’ve already cursed me. You cursed me the second you arrived.”
I tried to pull away, but his hold turned aggressive.
“Let me go.”
His eyes flashed navy in the darkness as his tongue ran over his bottom lip. “Let you go? I should, shouldn’t I?” His stare landed on my mouth, and lust became a sapphire fire in his gaze. “Too bad I’m not going to.”
