ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 28, 2020

Courtney Baker is ready to put small town life—and the man she can’t have—behind her. Years of secretly crushing on her best friend’s older brother have led nowhere and she’s finally ready to move on. It would have been a great plan had she not drunkenly blurted out all her feelings and kissed him. At least she’ll be able to forget all about it when she leaves town in less than 48 hours.

It takes a lot to surprise Dean Jones, but a kiss from the girl he’s been secretly attracted to for years does just that. All it takes it one kiss for him to realize he doesn’t want to let her go. But she’s his sister’s best friend and that’s a line he knows he should never cross. Never mind that she seems determined to leave their small town—and him—behind.

When a storm and a broken car stop Courtney from leaving town, Dean sees perfect opportunity to get her out of his system. But can one night ever be enough?

REVIEW: AND THEN ONE DAY is the fourth instalment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult MAGNOLIA SOUND romance series. This is auto mechanic Dean Jones, and dental hygienist Courtney Baker’s story line. AND THEN ONE DAY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Courtney and Dean) AND THEN ONE DAY follows the best friend’s brother relationship between auto mechanic Dean Jones, and dental hygienist Courtney Baker. Courtney Baker has been in love with her best friend’s older brother since she was a teen but Dean Jones is six years older, and Courtney believes Dean considers her nothing more than an annoying little sister. The loss of her job, and her parent’s decision to turn the family home into an Airbnb, finds our heroine looking to make a move, away from the people she knows and loves but when her car breaks down on the way out of town, Courtney will find herself moving in with the Dean Jones, the man she has always loved. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Dean and Courtney, and the potential fall-out as Dean’s sister Scarlett conspires to keep Courtney in Magnolia Sound, a conspiracy that threatens Courtney’s love for Dean Jones.

The relationship between Dean and Courtney is one of best friend’s older brother, secret crush. Dean had no idea that Courtney saw him as anything other than Scarlett’s brother, and Courtney has pined for Dean from afar, always on the side lines looking in. Dean struggles with their six year age difference, and Courtney battles between head and heart knowing a relationship with Dean could threaten her friendship with Scarlett Jones. The romance is passionate; the $ex scenes fade to black and are all implied.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Dean’s siblings: Scarlett and her husband Mason (In Case You Didn’t Know 3); brothers Kyle and Hunter, their father Dominic Jones, and grandfather Tommy Flynn. Scarlett is desperate to keep her best friend in Magnolia Sound but her plan backfires as it threatens their friendship on so many levels.

AND THEN ONE DAY is a story of family, friendships, unrequited love, secrets and lies. The small-town romance premise is engaging; the romance is sweet and fun; the characters are energetic.

“You sure this is what you want to do? Moving?” he asked, his voice low and deep and…concerned.
Looking at him, she sighed. “I was.”
“And now?”
“Now that it’s really happening, I’m…I mean…I wish…” Damn. This was all too depressing to talk about and totally not what she wanted to be doing either. Shaking her head, she said, “Can we change the subject? Please?”
“Sure,” he said with a nod, reaching up to caress her cheek and man-oh-man did it feel good.
Swallowing hard, she studied his face. God, he was so handsome. Why was he still single? Why weren’t there women banging down his door?
Although, that would make things pretty awkward if that were to happen right now.
So many thoughts raced through her head and she finally asked, “What are we doing, Dean?”
For just a second, he seemed as if he was going to move away–like he was doubting what was happening–but luckily it didn’t take long for him to get over it.
“Whatever it is that you want, Court,” he said and she swore she could have orgasmed right there on the spot.
Whatever she wanted? For real? Like…anything? She wondered.
If I only have tonight, then I’m going to go for it all…
Before she could lose her nerve, she moved away from him and instantly missed the feel of his hand on her skin. Standing, she moved in front of him and did her best to hold his gaze as she reached behind herself and unzipped her gown. The sound of the zipper going down seemed overly loud in the room, but Courtney didn’t stay focused on that. It was the look on Dean’s face that mesmerized her.
She swore she saw his hand twitch–as if he couldn’t wait to touch her–but she needed to finish what she was doing. This was her first attempt at a striptease, and dammit, she was going to do it without turning into a trembling mess!
Once the zipper was down, she wrapped an arm around her waist to hold the strapless gown in place–all the while not breaking eye contact. Licking her bottom lip, she dropped her arm, and thankfully, the gown floated down over her breasts, over her hips, and to the floor–leaving her standing in a deep purple thong that matched the gown and her stilettos.
Dean’s hand reached out and landed on her hip as he looked up at her to make sure it was okay. Nodding, she silently willed him to stand and touch her everywhere he could at once, but he was a man who clearly enjoyed taking his time.
And hopefully he would.
Later.
Right now, she wanted the wild and frantic man who kissed her near the boardwalk earlier.
“Dean…”
He stood, his hand still on her hip as he took in the sight of her. She’d been naked with men before, but for some reason, standing here in front of Dean in a thong and heels left her feeling way more exposed than ever before.
“Damn, Court,” he finally said, slowly licking his bottom lip. He met her gaze and his expression was heated and intense and she braced herself for what was to come.
“Don’t hold back. Please.”
As soon as the words were out of her mouth, it was madness. His arms banded around her as his lips claimed hers in a kiss she could only describe as carnal. With his hands on her ass, he lifted her out of the puddle of her dress and she wrapped her legs around his waist. They were a tangle of lips and limbs and it wasn’t elegant or pretty, but it felt so damn good that she was ready to go up in flames.
She figured he was going to lay her down on the sofa and was surprised when he started walking. His lips left hers to kiss along her jaw and neck and her head fell back to give him better access. Her eyes closed and didn’t open until he stopped moving.
His bedroom was dark. That was the only thing she noticed. As Dean slowly lowered her to the bed, she only had eyes for him. Standing back, he stripped off his tuxedo jacket and then the tie.
Looks like I’m not the only one doing a striptease tonight…
Part of her wanted to sit up and help him, but it was hypnotic watching his hands work–slowly unbuttoning his shirt, taking off his cuff links, his belt…
Oh, my…
Clothes hit the floor and when he was finally down to black boxer briefs, her eyes went a little wide.
He was perfection.
She knew Dean had tattoos, but she’d never seen how many. The ones on his arms were visible whenever he wore a t-shirt, but the ones on his chest were completely new to her. Reaching out her hand to him, he joined her on the bed, lying beside her.
Without a word, she rolled toward him and placed her hand on his chest with a whispered, “Wow.”
He smiled but she could feel the rapid beat of his heart under her palm. “You like?”
“Um…yeah,” she said, laughing softly. “I had no idea you had these.” His right arm had a cluster of red roses and a cross with his mother’s name on it, and his left had a very intricate tribal design. On his chest, however, he had a massive lion’s head and the artwork–even in the dim lighting–was spectacular. She was tempted to ask him to turn on a light but figured there was time for that later. Right now, she was simply enjoying having the freedom to touch him.
After several moments, she looked up at him and gave him what she hoped was a sexy smile right before she pulled him in for another kiss. This one was slower, sweeter, but as soon as Dean rolled her onto her back and covered her body with his, it changed–grew more urgent–and pretty soon all Courtney could think of was how much she wanted him.
All of him.
She began to move beneath him, rubbing against him, and just as she had thought earlier, she was all for him taking things slow later. Right now, however, she couldn’t wait. Hell, she’d been waiting for more than ten years to be like this with him and she was beyond impatient.
Her hands began to score down his back until she reached the waistband of his briefs and began pushing them away. His deep chuckle against her lips told her he got the message. But when he still made no move to help her, she broke the kiss.
“Dean?”
“Hmm?”
“Lose the boxers,” she said breathlessly.
“Yes, ma’am.” And as soon as he was done, he surprised her by ridding her of her thong and of her breath when his mouth trailed a hot path from her breasts and downward. As soon as he settled in to please her, Courtney forgot about everything else and enjoyed the ride.

Master’s Mistress (The Angel Eyes #1) by Jamie Schulz-a review

MASTER’S MISTRESS (The Angel Eyes #1) by Jamie Schulz

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk / Amazon.au /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 1, 2020

A man bound by chains. A woman burdened by regret. Will love set this tortured pair free?

In this nightmarish future where women own men, Bret Masters refuses to serve anyone. But after spending years evading slavers in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest, he’s furious when he’s finally caught and sold. So, although his mistress has a pretty face and deliciously tempting curves, he vows to escape.

Angel Aldridge hides her pain behind fences as sturdy and vast as her ranch. And even though her newly acquired slave is a ruggedly handsome cowboy, she’s not about to let her fantasies endanger the people she swore to protect. But between her always-watching enemies and her wounded heart, she’s reluctant to admit she may need him in more ways than one…

As the two toil side by side, Bret is surprised to discover Angel’s vulnerability and her compassionate nature. And the more time they spend together, the harder she finds it to resist her feelings and to soothe her lonely soul. But when they’re stranded alone together, the barriers between mistress and slave may not be strong enough to withstand their red-hot attraction.

Can Bret and Angel overcome their fears to sow the seeds of lasting love?

Masters’ Mistress is the steamy first book in The Angel Eyes futuristic dystopian cowboy romance series. If you like complex characters, gritty western settings, and slow-burning desires, then you’ll adore this enthralling story.

This is a planned six-book continuing series with cliffhangers and comes with trigger warnings for sexual situations and violence.

••••••••

REVIEW: MASTER’S MISTRESS is the first full-length (and second instalment) in Jamie Schulz’ adult, post-apocalyptic ANGEL EYES dystopian series. This is ranch owner Angel Aldridge, and Bret Masters’ story line. MASTER’S MISTRESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading book one JAKE’S REDEMPTION for back story and cohesion.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: Several years earlier a catastrophic war destroyed cities and towns throughout the world, and ‘changed the social order’ between men and women. In the ensuing aftermath, a second civil war between the sexes in America resulted in women becoming the dominant and controlling sex, while men were reduced to slaves to be used and abused.

Told from several third person perspectives including Bret and Angel MASTER’S MISTRESS follows the building but acrimonious relationship between ranch owner Angel Aldridge, and Bret Masters. Angel Aldridge doesn’t believe in the workings of the new matriarchal misogynistic system wherein men are nothing more than slaves to be used and abused. At a recent ‘auction’ of slaves and breeders, Jake Nichols (Jake’s Redemption .5) begs Angel Aldridge to buy his best friend Bret Masters, a man he hasn’t scene for close to five years. Angel knowing a desperate man when she sees one purchases Bret Master, only to discover Bret’s physical and emotional frailty is but the tip of the proverbial iceberg for a man who has suffered in his recent imprisonment, and in the past. As Bret’s strength and health begin to return his attitude towards Angel becomes combative and strong. What ensues is the back and forth, up and down, caustic relationship between Bret and Angel, as they navigate a world where Angel is the master and owner of a man who is beyond angry that he is still considered, by outsiders, a breeder and a slave.

In the new world order, Bret Masters is nothing more than a breeder and a slave. Wanted for his handsome looks and knowledge of running a ranch, Bret finds himself a hot commodity on the open market, a commodity that comes with demons from the past. Living and working at Angel Aldridge’s ranch does nothing but add to Bret’s already darkened view of his current situation, a situation he believes to be nothing more that a smoke-screen for slavery and more. Unable to see that his ‘imprisonment’ keeps him safe and alive, Bret refuses to consider or accept the world in which he now lives. Angel Aldridge is a woman whose past continues to control her present but her attraction to Bret is constantly dampened with each encounter with our story line hero. Never one to follow the rules, Angel pushes the boundaries of the current rules and regulations that keep men under the control of dangerous women, as she protects and treats her ‘property’ like family and friends. One of the few women who do not consider her property as slaves, Angel is respected by her workers, but threatened by the women who govern the state of the new world order.

The contemptuous relationship between Bret and Angel is fraught with issues of trust, betrayal, vengeance and lies. Bret is biding his time before he makes his escape but every planned attempt finds Bret having to ‘save’ his master from outside threats. Bret’s attraction to Angel is a battle between head and heart having experienced abuse and assault at the hands of someone he once loved. The back and forth petulant, acerbic and angry interactions between Bret and Angel were a bit much; accusations and threats preceded and ended almost every encounter. The one lone $ex scene was passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Bret’s one-time best friend Jake Nichols returns, as well as Angel’s friend Monica Avery. Bret and Monica’s relationship has to be kept secret as they live in a world dominated by controlling women who frown on a loving relationship between a woman and a man. Bret is also ‘owned’ by our story line heroine.

MASTER’S MISTRESS is a heart breaking and emotional story line about a world destroyed by a spiteful few; a world wherein sins of the past control the present and the future; where a number of women are ensuring that men are no longer the dominant sex, or ever in control. The premise is entertaining and captivating; the characters are broken, angry, struggling and depressed; the romance struggles in the face of a world turned upside down. MASTER’S MISTRESS does not end with a happily ever after nor a happily ever after for now, but ends rather abruptly with more story to tell.
