REVIEW:Not read any of the previous books, but that doesn’t matter in the least.

Sloane or “The Angel Of Death” as she is known Is an assassin, a killer for hire, and she’s good at her job, methodical and clean, her daddy taught her plenty of lessons and not all of them were easy, but they were valuable. Five long years and now she’s at the top of her game, this should have been an easy job …..

Ivan is a Bratva Boss, ruthless and cold. No time for a life, the Bratva is his life, and he can’t see that changing. His only other love is his brother, there is nothing he wouldn’t do for his younger brother. A business deal has gone wrong, and now he has to tie up loose ends, why can’t people just doing there jobs?!

Now, I’m not a big mafia reader, to romanticise criminal bosses in my book is a big no no, but I’d give it the benefit of the doubt. (Violent in places, I had to skip a few parts). The plot is a good one, Sloane is hired to kill someone (at first I thought it was Ivan, that is later) she does that easy, but spots an opportunity to make more money (a flash drive) this is then when it gets interesting. Ivan is also fighting a hostile takeover (a rival gang has moved into his territory, and has taken something from him) he has to show force, and can’t have his attention divided at the moment.

It’s very well thought out and written, it’s making me want to read the previous books. Very descriptive, and a fast paced book. Written in the hero/heroine’s point of view. We have a sort of romance book, but I didn’t really get that vibe, there was lust and attraction, but not a real connection between Ivan and Sloane.

So….. will Ivan let Sloane go after he finds out why she’s there to kill him? Will Sloane want to be freed? And what type of torture will he use??

I was only six years old the first time I fired a gun. Eight when my father forced me to hold my breath again and again in a bathtub full of ice water. Twelve when he made me survive three nights alone in northern Maine in the winter.
I know my father wasn’t right in the head. The problem is that when you work for the CIA most of your adult life, it’s hard to distinguish between paranoia and actual threats.
It took me longer than it should have to figure out something was wrong. That some of the things my father was seeing weren’t actually there. The cars “following” us. The “messages” he was being sent.
I had no frame of reference. I’d never attended a normal school. I had no friends. My father was my whole world. He was the smartest, most capable person I knew. The idea that he might be crazy was just . . . too horrible to accept.
I push those memories to the back of my mind. I can’t get distracted.
I’ve cleared the ground floor of the west wing. If Ivan Petrov’s rooms are on this side of the house, they must be upstairs.
I climb the stairs, entering a hallway that seems to lead to several bedrooms. All the closed doors are identical. Which one is Ivan’s?
As I keep walking, there’s a break between the doors, with a library on the left, and what looks like an office on the right. And then beyond that, at the end of the hallway, a set of double doors.
Bingo.
If there’s a master suite beyond those doors, it surely belongs to Ivan Petrov.
Does he lock his doors at night?
I carefully test the old-fashioned handles. They move easily beneath my hand.
With aching slowness, I crack the right-hand door.
It’s dark inside the suite, the blinds drawn. I slip through the door, closing it silently behind me. I stand still, letting my eyes adjust to the gloom.
I believe I’m in a sitting room, with the bedroom somewhere beyond.
Holding my own breath, I think I can hear the slow inhale and exhale of someone sleeping close by. It’s the breathing of a large man, broad in the chest. Large lungs, a vast, slumbering body.
Ivan Petrov. I know it.
I’ve watched him from a distance. I’ve seen his intensity, his ferocity. The way his men snap to attention when he comes close, the way they obey his orders without question. I’ve seen his vigi- lance, the look of intelligence on his face. And, of course, I’ve seen his massive, powerful body. He wears a suit every day, but I’ve seen the round muscles of his shoulders and biceps even beneath the thick material of the suit jacket.
I don’t want to get in a scuffle with this man. Nor do I want to risk firing a gun in a house stuffed full of his soldiers, not even with a silencer and a pillow wrapped round it.
So I’ve brewed up a special cocktail for Ivan Petrov. I take it out of my pocket now.
A single syringe of clear amber fluid. Once I drive it into his neck, he’ll be immobilized in moments. It will flood through his bloodstream, turning his limbs to stone. His chest will seize up until he won’t be able to draw a single breath. Remembering his mass, I’ve used enough paralytic to freeze a racehorse in its tracks.
It won’t look like an accident, but that wasn’t a requirement of the job. I just have to kill him and get out without getting caught.
I move through the sitting room, into the bedroom beyond. With the minute amount of light coming through the cracks in the blinds, I can just barely see Ivan’s vast form, laying on the bed. He’s sprawled out on his back, one thick arm flung up over his head. His heavily muscled and tattooed chest is bare. There’s a patch of dark hair in the center of his chest, and a thin line trailing down the center of his stomach, disappearing under the sheet.
I suspect he’s completely naked under there, without even a pair of boxer shorts. I can’t help glancing toward the bulge under the thin sheet. It’s a shame to kill a specimen like this, right in his prime.
But there’s half a million dollars on the line. And if I don’t kill Ivan Petrov, someone else will.
So I might as well get my money.
I approach the bed. Nothing could be more silent than my feet, taking step after step across the thick oriental rug. I wear the same kind of shoes that rock-climbers wear—thin, flexible, grippy. Little more than leather slippers, and quiet as bare feet.
Petrov’s head is thrown back on the pillow, his throat exposed. His dark hair tumbles across his eyes. His lips are slightly parted. His breathing hasn’t changed—it’s still a steady metronome. But I’m about to put a stop to it.
I slip the cap off the needle. I grip the syringe in my fist, my thumb above the depressor.
As I raise my right hand in the air, above his neck, I can’t help glancing one more time at Ivan’s face.
His dark brown eyes are open, staring up at me.

About the book: Release Date February 11, 2020

Asher Davis. My first crush.

My first kiss.

The boy who ripped my heart out of my chest again and again. Over and over. I let him have it every single time.

Willingly.

We are that toxic high school couple you hear about, the one you witness in the hallway avoiding each other. You laugh at them in class when they’re forced to work together, their gazes full of hatred. We are the couple you gossip about when they win homecoming prince and princess their sophomore year…

The back and forth is what kills me the most. I’m not his princess, I’m the girl he toys with when he’s bored. And he’s definitely not my prince, no matter how badly I want him to be.

Our senior year and we’re months away from never having to see each other again when disaster strikes—and brings us closer together. All it takes is one touch, and I’m burning for Ash. Hotter than I ever have.

But will that burn turn into a devastating fire? Or can we actually make it work this time?

REVIEW: CLOSE TO ME is the first instalment in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, young adult THE CALLAHANS romance series focusing on the Callahan siblings-a spin off from the author’s ONE WEEK GIRLFRIEND series. This is high school students Asher Davis, and Autumn Callahan’s story line.

Told from several first person perspectives including Asher and Autumn CLOSE TO ME covers four to five years in the life of high school students Asher Davis, and Autumn Callahan. Autumn Callahan is the eldest child and daughter of former NFL quarterback Drew Callahan and his wife Fable, and as such finds herself often on the outside looking in but her four year, love/hate relationship with high school quarterback Asher Davis pulls our heroine into the vortex that is about to suck Asher Davis into the depths of h*ll. When trouble at home finds Asher living with Coach Callahan, his relationship with Autumn is stepped up to the next level, no longer a love/hate relationship but a teenaged love affair wherein Asher’s past is determined to destroy them all. What ensues is the building friendship, relationship and romance between Asher and Autumn, and the potential fall-out as Asher’s home-life, and previous relationships affect everything going forward.

The relationship between Asher and Autumn begins acrimoniously as Asher’s attempts to befriend Autumn are met with derision and scorn. Autumn struggles to accept everything that Asher represents without ever truly understanding the totality of the darkness that controls his world. As Autumn and Asher dance around one another throughout their entire high school career, Asher’s life begins to implode leaving our hero a shell of his former self. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The colorful and energetic cast of characters include Drew and Fable Callahan (One Week Girlfriend series), as well as their children Jake, Ava and Beck; Autumn’s friend Kaya; several high school students, mean girls and wanna-bes. Jake’s story is next in Falling For Her.

CLOSE TO ME is a story of family, dysfunction, betrayal, secrets and lies; of one boy’s struggle to survive against the odds; of one girl’s need to love a boy who believes he is not worthy of love. The premise is heart breaking and emotional; the romance is passionate; the characters are charismatic, broken, struggling but strong.

“Do friends give each other hugs? The friends I have do. Sometimes.”
“There is no way I’m hugging you.” I roll my eyes.
“A truce hug then? Come on.” He lets go of the door handle and faces me fully, stretching his arms out in invitation. “I’ll leave you alone after this, okay? I promise.”
I’m not sure if he’s the type who keeps his promises. I’m guessing no.
This could be the last time I hug him. This entire encounter has been weird. Confusing. We’re a mess. We would never work, and us going ’round and ’round in circles tonight just proves that.
So what’s the harm in getting one last hug from Ash? It’s just a hug. A brief moment of bodily contact and then I’ll send him away. He won’t bug me again. He’ll get over his so-called feelings for me. He’ll give his heart to someone else or even better, he’ll discover he actually has one, and he’ll forget all about me. He’ll give it to someone else, and he’ll finally leave me alone forever.
Why does that thought make me feel so empty inside?
Deciding it’s do or die time, I walk right into his hug, my arms sliding around his waist, my head resting on his chest. I can feel the steady thump-thump of his heartbeat and I close my eyes when his arms come around me. Slowly. Enfolding me into his body so that we’re snug tight.
He holds me with a desperation, almost as if he’s afraid to let me go, and when I lift my head, tilting it back so I can stare into his eyes, I find he’s already watching me.
“Friends don’t make each other feel like this,” he says, his voice a gravelly whisper.
The hairs on the back of my neck rise. “Feel like what?”
“Like you could be my everything.”
My shoulders sag. “Ash—”
“Stop talking.” He presses two fingers to my lips, silencing me. When he’s seemingly assured I won’t speak, he lightens the pressure, gently caressing my lips. Back and forth. Making me tingle.
Making me want him to do more than touch my mouth.
I want him to kiss me.
“You have the sexiest lips,” he murmurs, and the blush returns, setting my face on fire. No one has referred to me as sexy before. “What we’re doing is fucking crazy. You know this right, Callahan?”
I ignore his question. “How could I be your everything when you told me you don’t know how to feel?”
“The only time I seem to feel is when…” He presses his fingers into the corner of my mouth, so gentle, I could almost think he never actually touched me. “I’m with you.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 5, 2020

IN LOVE WITH A ROCKSTAR?

No, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

Rebecca Cooper knows what dating a rockstar is like. It’s late nights, months on the road, and constantly sharing your man with everyone else. It’s coming second. She’s been there, done that, and walked away with a broken heart. So how it is possible she’s put herself in this position again? In love with yet another rockstar. This time, his brother.

Luke Mills is bitter. He’s bogged down by years of guilt and heartache. He goes through the motions. He’s rough with everyone around him. And then Rebecca walks back into his life. Sweet Rebecca. She shouldn’t be here. She shouldn’t have come back. But Luke sees her and can’t help the way his heart wants to respond. But, no, not in a million years—he’d never let her have a spot in his frozen heart again. Not when she was always his brother’s girl.

••••••••

REVIEW: NEVER LOVE A ROCKSTAR is the third instalment in Sarah Darlington’s contemporary, adult ROCKSTARS IN KILL DEVIL HILLS rock, romance series focusing on the rock band Sunset Revival-a spin off from the author’s Kill Devil Hills series. This is guitarist and eldest Mills brother Luke Mills, and Rebecca Cooper’s story line. NEVER LOVE A ROCKSTAR can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion. Some of the timeline and events runs parallel to the events of book one Never Trust a Rockstar, and book two Never Kiss a Rockstar.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Luke and Rebecca) follows in the aftermath of Rebecca Cooper’s return to Kill Devil Hills. Four years earlier Rebecca and Caleb Mills were in a relationship but Caleb had virtually ignored our story line heroine. A one-night stand with Caleb’s brother Luke, found Rebecca walking away only to return four years later with a three year-old child, by her side. As Caleb struggles to make sense of it all, Luke discovers that not everything is at is appears to be. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Luke and Rebecca, as our couple come to terms with what was, and what will be.

Luke Mills has always been in love with his brother’s girlfriend, but one night together was never going to be enough, having awoken alone, with no idea as to Rebecca’s plans. Fast forward to present day, wherein Rebecca returns with ‘Caleb’s’ son, a child Luke knows to be his, alone.

The relationship between Rebecca and Luke is one of second chances, of a sorts, between two people who have loved one another from afar. Rebecca never wanted to be a burden to Caleb or Luke but was struggling to support her child, who needed special care. Luke was quick to provide Rebecca with a home and support, as he had never stopped loving the woman he believed his brother still loved. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to Luke’s brothers Caleb (and Emma), Ollie, and their cousin Dani. The Mills’ matriarch struggles in the face of preconceived notions about her sons’ relationships with a woman she believes will ruin them all.

NEVER LOVE A ROCKSTAR is a story of family, secrets, passion and love. The premise is emotional and heart breaking; the romance is seductive; the characters are wounded and real.

Description:
A hilarious new novel full of Hollywood glitz, glamour, and scandal.

When he changes the locks, she changes the rules.

Agnes Murphy Nash is the perfect Hollywood wife – she has the right friends, the right clothes, and even a side career of her own as a writer. Her husband Trevor is a bigshot producer, and from the outside it looks like they’re living a picture-perfect celebrity life, complete with tennis tournaments and lavish parties.

But the job description of a Hollywood wife doesn’t cover divorce, which is the way Agnes’ life is headed after she comes home one day to find her credit cards cancelled and the security passwords to get into her enormous LA home changed. Oh, and there’s a guy there whose job it is to tase her if she tries to enter…which she does. Needless to say, Agnes’ husband is dead set on making sure she loses big time, but Agnes isn’t the type to just lie down and take it. In a world of fremenies and hot nannies, personal psychics and “skinny” jello shots, Agnes may be losing her husband, but could that mean getting her own life back?

Been There, Married That is a drop-dead hilarious battle of wills that will make you laugh out loud, cringe, and keep turning the pages to see what crazy disaster will happen to Agnes next…and how she’ll rise from the ashes.

Review:

Been There, Married That by Gigi Levangie is a novel about Hollywood, Marriage/Divorce and Scandal.  At the start, we meet our heroine, Agnes Murphy Nash, who is the wife of a famous producer, and has lived a glamourous Hollywood life, as well as a writer.  Life is about to change for Agnes, when she comes home and finds herself locked out.  It seems her husband is filing for a divorce, and slowly takes everything away from Agnes, including locking her out of the house, taking away her credit cards, accusing her of being an unfit mother; just to name a few things.

Trevor, her husband, is a powerful and arrogant man, who will stop at nothing to get what he wants; a divorce, custody of their daughter, no money for settlement and a new girlfriend.  Agnes is beside herself, trying to get some support, but money talks and Trevor seems to be winning everything, not to mention being a horrible person.

Been There, Married That is noted as a hilarious frantic comedy that focuses on the wild antics of the main characters.  The concept of the story line is good, but I thought the writing was all over the place, which also came across as confusing often.  I will say it was at times humorous, and  wild and crazy from start to finish, and maybe others will enjoy that style of writing.   The husband, Trevor as noted was a terrible person, but Agnes did not come across as a great character either.  Sure, you did feel sympathy for her, and there was so many absurd and laughable situations that it was hard to like anyone in this crazy story line.

Been There, Married That was a different kind of read, a bit too wild for me, but if you enjoy wild chic lit entertainment, you should enjoy this book.
