ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 31, 2020

I’m not the same Bebe Grimshaw I was years ago. The woman I was spent years behind the bars of the highest security women’s prison in the nation, my punishment for hacking nuclear codes as part of a crime syndicate I’d gotten in way too deep with. The woman I am today doesn’t regret what I did, or the fact that I got caught, but I am remorseful for the years I lost with my son, Aaron. Released from my sentence early thanks to Kynan McGrath, I joined his team at Jameson Force Security and now put my skills to use helping people.

I’m just trying to get back a piece of what I lost, focusing solely on raising Aaron and my work at Jameson. As long as I have my son and my career, I’m content. But life has a funny way of letting you know exactly what you need, and when a devastatingly handsome stranger named Griffin befriends Aaron at the park, I have to consider I might be missing something. A part of me that was locked away long ago reawakens, and I find myself looking at Griff in a way I’ve not looked at a man in more than a decade.

Just when I think things are starting to look up, my world is turned upside down. Turns out that meeting wasn’t an accident, and things aren’t going my way at all.

Griffin Moore is the man sent here to kill me.

REVIEW:CODE NAME: HACKER is the fourth instalment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult JAMESON FORCE SECURITY erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Jameson Force Security. This is Griffin Moore, and IT hacker Bebe Grimshaw’s storyline. CODE NAME : HACKER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Bebe and Griffin) CODE NAME: HACKER follows Griffin Moore as he is hired to take down our story line heroine. Several years earlier, Bebe Grimshaw, a single parent, was desperate and found herself working for the Russian mob, forced to hack the US government in an effort to steal nuclear codes. Unable to live with the guilt and the potential for worldwide disaster, Bebe intentionally got caught but seven years later, Bebe’s past has placed a target on her back. Enter Griffin Moore, the man hired to kill our story line heroine but a man whose secret is about to be revealed. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Bebe and Griffin, and the potential fall-out as both Bebe and Griffin find themselves staring down the Russian mob.

Bebe Grimshaw got early release when Kynan McGrath of Jameson Force Security vouched to our story line heroine. Hiding in plain site, Bebe would soon discover that her friendship with Griffin Stolz aka Moore would threaten everyone she loves. Griffin Moore knows a thing or two about an undercover investigation and has no plans to kill our story line heroine but once the truth about his assignment is revealed, the Jameson Force Security team work behind the scenes in an effort to save them both.

The relationship between Griffin and Bebe is predicated on a lie. Griffin has been stalking Bebe for several days and positions himself to be in the right place at the right time in an effort to befriend our heroine at her most vulnerable. Bebe struggles with Griffin’s ability to walk into her life, a life in which she is responsible for more than just her own. The Sex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, several of the Jameson Force security team members play secondary and supporting roles including Team commander, security specialist and former British Special Forces agent Kynan McGrath, Cage Murdock, Merrit Gables, Saint Bellinger, Cruce Britton, psychiatrist Dr. Corinne Ellery, and strategist Dozer Burney; PA Anna and Bebe’s son Aaron.

CODE NAME: HACKER is a story of secrets and lies; betrayal and revenge; family, friendships, and love. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the characters are colorful, energetic and strong; the romance is captivating and seductive. CODE NAME: HACKER ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

Description:
Anything is possible in Silverlake, Texas when love takes the reins…

Rhett Braddock swore to himself that he’d never return to Silverlake. But when the opportunity arises to buy a piece of his lost, happier youth, he’s drawn to the community–and the family–he once loved. Mending fences might not be as hard as he thought–until he ends up in bed with his best friend’s sister.

Julianna Riggs is over Rhett Braddock. So what if he’s a self-made billionaire? His less than flattering dash the morning after they spent the night together made it clear he wants nothing to do with her. Besides, she has her horses and the Riggs stables to save.
So when Rhett buys the Riggs property as a favor to her brother, Jules makes him feel as welcome as a skunk at a garden party … but is it possible that Rotten Rhett isn’t so rotten after all? Or is the Texas heat melting her resolve to hate him?

Review:

Home With You by Liza Kendall is the 2nd book in her Silverlake Ranch series.   I enjoyed the first book in this series, and I am happy to say that I loved this one too, and have added Liza Kendall to my list of must-read authors for fun pure romances.

Rhett Braddock, our hero, returns to Silverlake, Texas after being away for many years. He returns to help his best friend, Grady, whose father is ill and has fallen on hard times financially;  Rhett, who is now very successful and wealthy, buys some of the Riggs land, mostly the stables/horses; bringing back wonderful memories, especially of Frost, his horse before he left town, who his brother sold to the Riggs. Rhett is also determined to mend fences with his family, Jake, Lila and Declan.

Julianna Riggs, our heroine, is shocked when she discovers that her father sold part of their ranch to Rhett, since she is the one who handles the stables and the horses.   Jules tries to avoid Rhett, as she has never forgotten their one night stand a few months ago, when Rhett walked out before she woke up. She has always had a crush as a teenager on Rhett, but she hates him right now.  Every chance she sees him, she is very belligerent and angry that he has taken away her rights as being in charge of the horses.   Rhett, knows he was wrong leaving her that night, but he feared that his best friend would turn on him if he knew about his one-night stand with his baby sister.  Rhett, does everything in his power, to make Jules understand, and tells her she is still in charge running the stables; he just wants to help increase the profits for the Riggs ranch, and spend his own money to improve things.  Despite all of that, Jules still gives him a hard time, even if she feels the attraction to Rhett very much still there.

What follows is a wonderful heartwarming and emotional small-town romance with a couple we loved from the start.  I loved Rhett and Jules, but throughout most of the book, we were not sure if they could ever get past their issues.  Rhett’s fears of worrying about Grady’s reaction, incensed Jules, each time they react on their feelings for each other, constantly pushing them back another step. I loved seeing Jake and Charley again, and Lila was a hoot throughout the book, especially trying to push Rhett and Jules together. It was wonderful to see Rhett and Declan finally come to terms and be the close brothers they once were.  I also got a kick out of Jules dog, Beast, and loved Rhett’s feelings for Frost, his old horse.  There are some emotional moments.

Home With You is an emotional sweet romance that brings together a couple that was destined to be, and a family that needed to pull together from the past and forgive.   Liza Kendall has created a wonderful group of secondary characters, whom I look forward to learning about them all in future books.  If you enjoy pure romances with a family and small-town background, I suggest you read Home With You.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 24, 2020

**A King Series Spin-Off**

Born into chaos. Baptized in the gutter.
I was raised by the violent laws of the streets, spilling blood without the hindrance of useless emotions or connections.
Unfeeling. Unloved. Alone.

My life was perfect.

Until her.

While on a manhunt for a mysterious enemy, one hellbent on taking both my business and my life, I find Mickey. She’s covered in mud, rambling nonsense, and clearly out of her mind.

She’s also a distraction I don’t need.

That is until I discover a connection between the girl and my enemy.
Mickey isn’t a distraction anymore.
She’s the perfect weapon.
One I’ll use to exact my revenge.

The plan is an easy one, but there’s something about Mickey that’s making it more and more difficult.
A familiarity I can’t place. A need I can’t explain.
A want I have to deny.

After all, she’s not mine to keep. She’s a tool. My pawn.
My sacrifice.

REVIEW:PIKE is the first instalment in TM Fraziers contemporary adult THE PAWN dark, romance duet focusing on Pike and Mickey. THE PAWN DUET is a spin-off from the authors KING series. PIKE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the KING series . Some of the timeline and characters overlap between series.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Mickey and Pike) PIKE focuses on the mystery surrounding a young twenty-three year old woman Mikaela aka Mickey, and her connections to the group trying to destroy Brantley King aka The King of the Causeway. Four years earlier, Pike found a young woman battered and bruised with no apparent memory of what happened or why, but rescuing said woman brought Pike up close and personal with a gang he would face several years later. When Mickey sacrificed herself to save Pike, Pike had no idea if he would ever see Mickey again. Fast forward to present day wherein Pike must face the past, when he discovers the young woman he rescued is part of the same gang threatening to destroy them all. Now a prisoner without bars, Mickey comes full circle when she faces the possibility of losing it all. What ensues is the acrimonious relationship between Pike and Mickey, as Pike, King, Preppy and Nine are targeted for territory and control.

Mickey lost everything four years earlier, and in an effort to protect a man she did not know, Mickey voluntarily walks into the dragons den knowing there would be no turning back but Mickey has plans to destroy the people who currently control her life, plans that may now involve someone she once loved. Pike grew up on the mean streets of Logan Beach, and as such was deeply rooted in the fight for power and control but a rival group is determined to ascend to the top, setting their sights on Kings territory.

PIKE is a story of betrayal and vengeance; of coercion and domination; of secrets, lies, acknowledgement and revenge. The premise is dark and gritty; the characters are familiar, broken, and battered; the romance is virtually non-existent as our couple try to navigate the who, what, how and why. PIKE ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

NOTE: The excerpt is intended for mature readers due to content and strong language

I raise the gun in both hands, aiming it at his chest. “I have to go. You can’t stop me,” I say, with all the resolve I have left. “You’re going to trade me and ambush them, but don’t you think they have the same plans for you? I have to go, and that way, fewer people will die. YOU won’t die. So, just let me leave. I have a plan. It will work. I’ll take them down for both of us.”
“No.” Pike looks from me to the gun. “And as I’ve told you before, you’re not going anywhere.” His words are dark and menacing. An amused smile turns up the corners of his lips.
It’s infuriating. He’s infuriating.
I straighten my shoulders. “What’s so funny?” I ask, swallowing down the rising fear in my throat. I remind myself of one important fact to keep from choking on that fear.
I’m the one holding the gun.
Instead of freezing or retreating as one would do in this situation, Pike takes a bold step forward, catching me off guard. I stagger backward, but I’m not fast enough. He reaches out, and at first, I think he’s going for the weapon, but he doesn’t. He confuses me as he wraps his hands around mine, tightening my grip around the gun. He lifts my hands and bends slightly at the waist, forcefully pressing the barrel against his forehead. “You wanna shoot me, Mic? Then, fucking shoot me,” he dares, with wild blood shoot eyes.
My mouth drops open, but words don’t come out. I expected Pike to defend himself. To come at me. To step aside and let me leave, even though it was the least possible of all the outcomes. I didn’t plan for this.
I can do this. I have to do this.
“Not what you were expecting?” His tone is both mocking and rage-filled. “I know what that pretty brain of yours is thinking. You want me to attack you and make pulling the trigger easier on that conscious of yours.” He bites out a laugh. “Not gonna happen. If you want to do this, I’m not going to stand in your way, but you’re not fucking leaving either. So, come on. Shoot me. Go ahead. Do what you planned to do.” His eyes narrow with determination. My hands shake in his. “Pull the fucking trigger!”
The air around us is thick and charged. My skin breaks out in a sheen of sweat. My adrenaline spikes and I feel all too alert. Too aware of what’s taking place between us.
I grip the gun tighter and gaze into his dark eyes, his pupils are large and covering every hint of color within them. Behind the anger and determination, there’s something else that I didn’t expect. Something that I’m all too familiar with. Hurt. Pain that mirrors my own. Desperation that calls out to me like a piece of my soul trapped within Pike.
“Shoot me!” he cries, his face red with anger, teeth bared like a wild animal. “Fucking shoot me!”
With those words, my fiery resolve dissolves into ash.
I step back, needing to put some distance between us, but Pike doesn’t have the same thought. He follows me backward, keeping his grip tight on my hands and the gun between them.
“I…I can’t do this,” I whisper, releasing my grip on the gun.
Pike releases his hold on me, catching the gun before it can fall to the floor.
Shit.
I look to the window, but it’s too high, and Pike is directly in front of the only door. There’s no escape. So much for being brave. Instead, I’ve signed my own death warrant. My heart races erratically with the realization that this is it. It’s over.
I’m over.
“This was a really stupid fucking move for someone who claims to be so smart, ” Pike sneers. He raises the gun.
I pinch my eyes shut, waiting for the feel the bullet of his wrath to pierce my skin. I hear a thud, and my eyes fly open and land on the carpet where Pike’s tossed the gun to the floor.
My eyes meet his in silent question. Why?
He answers by charging, a one-man stampede I can’t avoid as he barrels toward me. His chest crashes against mine, and my head connects with the wall with a thud that rattles my bones. I’m dizzy as fear lands in my gut like a ball of fire. My pulse races as his closeness consumes me. The smell of cologne and cigarettes lingers between us—a trace of whiskey on his breath.
“You’re going to regret not pulling that trigger,” he sneers. The darkness in Pike’s eyes tells me that, gun or no gun, I’m not getting out of this unpunished.
Or possibly even alive.
I swallow hard.
He cages me in with his hands against the wall beside me, engulfing me in the heat and rage radiating from his hard body. I feel his heart beating fast beneath his chest now pressed against mine. “What to do with you now?” Pike muses, his breath ragged. His voice full of promise and warning. He brushes his lips over my temple. I tremble at the contact. “You’re going to pay for that little stunt, Mic.”
He’s close. Too close. I’m entirely rigid, frozen in place. This wasn’t supposed to happen. How did I let this happen? I’m the most terrified I’ve ever been, and yet there’s something else I can’t understand. Something else between us that’s charging the air, causing me to shake, and it’s not just from fear. Hatred mixed with need. The yearning I’ve denied for him is no longer lying dormant. It’s as real as the ache growing in my stomach, the wetness between my thighs. If I thought the room felt charged before, it’s damn near on fire now. The flames of desire and hate lick at the walls around us, setting everything ablaze, making the small room feel smaller, closing in around us.
My nipples harden as they brush against his chest. I suck in a gasp.
He doesn’t miss my reaction. He looks to where my nipples are straining against my shirt with heated eyes.
The only sound in the room is our mutual heavy breathing as he slowly pulls his gaze from my chest. His eyes lock on mine. For a few seconds, we just stare at each other—foreheads lined with confusion and anger.
A silent dare.
My mind, on the other hand, is anything but silent.
“Should I kill you or fuck you?” he muses. And I’m honestly not sure what scares me more. His anger or his desire. He brushes the backs of his knuckles against my jaw. “Maybe, both.”
“What do you—” I don’t have time to finish my question because his lips are on mine. He hoists me in the air, and my legs wrap around his waist on instinct.
It’s an angry joining of clacking teeth and biting lips. A war we are still fighting both with each other and ourselves. He growls at me when I pierce his lip, drawing blood. He licks the blood with his tongue then kisses me again, this time harder. A punishing kiss that has me growling at him in return. His coppery blood on my tongue tastes like victory. He licks his way between my lips, pushing his tongue into my mouth, licking and devouring with rough determined strokes. With a jerk of his hips, he presses the massive erection beneath his jeans between my legs, the pleasure that courses through me has me momentary seeing stars. I grind down on him in return.
He hisses in response, baring his teeth against my lips. “You’re going to pay for that, Mic,” he warns, taking my mouth in another kiss that has us grunting and growling at one another like starved animals fighting over the last scrap of food. But neither of us is about to give up. He pushes me back onto the bed, falling with me over my body, my legs splayed on both sides of his hips as he presses his cock again between my legs. I arch my back, needing to feel more. Needing for there to be nothing between us but desire. For each other, and to win. But, this is no longer a game we’re playing. It’s a battle. A war neither of us can win.
But, one in which we will both go down fighting.

T.M. enjoys writing what she calls sexy‘wrongside of the tracks romance’ with morally corrupt anti-heroes and ballsy heroines.

Her books have been described as raw, dark and gritty. Basically, what that means, is while some authors are great at describing a flower as it blooms, T.M. is better at describing it in the final stages of decay.

Description:
Werebear shifter Annette Garsea is a caseworker for the Interspecies Placement Agency. When a selectively mute and freakishly strong teen werewolf is put in her custody, Annette has to uncover the young girl’s secrets if she’s to have any hopes of helping her. And not even the growling of a scruffy private investigator can distract her from her mission…

Bear shifter David Auberon appreciates Annette’s work with at-risk teen shifters, but he’s not sure if her latest charge is so much a vulnerable teen as a predator who should be locked up. All that changes when he, Annette, and her motley band of juveniles find themselves dodging multiple murder attempts and uncovering a trafficking cartel that doesn’t just threaten the kids, but risks discovery of the shifters by the wider world of homo sapiens.

Review:

Bears Behaving Badly by MaryJanice Davidson is the 1st book in her Bewere My Heart series. We meet our heroine, Annette Garsea, a werebear shifter, who works for the Interspecies Placement Agency as a social worker; usually working with juvenile delinquent children.    Dev, one of her young charges, is a werefox, and is always running away and getting into trouble; but he also likes and trusts Annette.

David Auberon, our bear shifter hero, is an investigator who arrests the young children in her custody; when he arrests a young girl (wolf shifter), who doesn’t speak, it is Annette who tries to come to her rescue.  She recognizes that something terrible happened to Caro, and is determined to discover what it is; especially since Dev tells Annette about Caro being like a sister to him.   At first David, doesn’t have much sympathy, but because of his immediate attraction to Annette, he begins to work with her find out what is going on with the missing kids.  When attempts are made on their lives, and dodging multiple murder attempts, they uncover a trafficking cartel kidnapping these kids. Both David and Annette are in a race to save the children.

I thought both David and Annette were a great couple, as their relationship escalated the more time they spend together, and their chemistry was off the wall.  I have to admit though they were funny at times, they also bordered on being very quirky; and Davidson had such great group secondary characters like their friends Nadia, Oz and Pat, who were even wild and crazier.  Those parts were very funny, but at times confusing too.  I really did like Dev and Caro, which made it more important for them to be helped.

What follows was an intriguing mystery and adventure, that had a lot of tense, suspenseful and exciting moments.  As the story raced to its climax, the danger rises, with lives on the line, as well as a few surprises along the way. Though I did like David and Annette together, some of their humor was a bit wacky.  Bears Behaving Badly was a good start to this new series, which I look forward to seeing where Davidson is taking us in the next book.

While David tore the intruders to pieces, Annette jacked shells into her .12 gauge. Twenty-inch barrel, six-round mag, and a place to attach a bayonet, not that she’d ever felt the urge.
She eschewed buckshot; slugs had the advantage of range, greater accuracy, would shred their target at 1,800 feet per second, and could knock a full-grown werewolf off all four paws. Slugs would also, to use the technical term, incapacitate like a bastard.
Annette stepped out of the room, socked the gun to her shoulder, fired at the
(sixty pounds, six-inch bite-wound radius, four feet at the shoulder, sees the gun but tries for my carotid anyway because he is a clear IDIOT)
werewolf, and moved slightly to her left as the werewolf’s momentum carried him another eighteen inches while the slug rearranged his coronary arteries.
To her left came a choked snarl that was chopped short. David had pulverized the werewolf’s vocal cords as he went in for the final strike. While she’d run for the gun case, he had killed the other one before he’d gotten a dozen feet from the car, now parked haphazardly at the far end of the yard.
“Oh, hell,” she said, popping the safety and inhaling. Blood, cordite, fear, blood, triumph, scones. “We live to bite another day, hurrah for us, but we’ve killed all our leads.”
Welp, as Mama Mac would say, better them than us. Then she’d bake a Bundt cake.
I would love a Bundt cake.
“Pat!” she called. “Sound off!”
“I’m good, we’re all good back here!”
“You okay, Annette?” David asked hoarsely. “You hurt?”
She turned to see David, all six-foot-plus of him, bloodied head to heels. He wiped his face with the back of a bloody hand, which was an exercise in futility. His dark hair was sticking up like he’d used gore for mousse, and he was all powerful arms and broad chest and long, blood-spattered muscles and, um, long…long…
Feet.
Do not gape at the man like a slack-jawed yokel, you slack-jawed yokel! Shifter nudity taboos were, by necessity, far more relaxed than anything in the Stable world. But it still wasn’t polite to stare, no matter how fine the Shifter in question was. Quite the opposite; it could be construed as a challenge.
“I’m all right. Are you?” She stepped closer, and there was no way, no way to stop herself from reaching out. “Well, hell. At least one of them got his teeth into you.”
“Worth it.” Now he stepped closer. Don’t read into it. Maybe he’s worried you can’t hear him from two feet away. He’s so considerate! “Are you sure you’re okay?”
She looked down at her sweater. “None of this is my blood, David.”
“That shouldn’t be as hot as it is,” he said, and cupped the nape of her neck and kissed her. Neither the time nor place, her inner Girl Scout primly pointed out, but damn, the man had a nice mouth. Mmmmm…Skittles…
Just as suddenly, he drew back, leaving her gasping. “Sorry.”
“That bad?”
He shook his head. “Christ, no. But I should’ve asked.”
“Is that an apology?”
“No.”
“Well then. This serves you right.” And she kissed him back. She was pressed up against him, more blood smearing on her sweater, and he was right—it shouldn’t be so exciting. But it was. It didn’t matter that she’d never shifted. Some urges were difficult to deny. For example, the urge to slide her hands down from the small of his back to the springy muscles of his ass, because for some reason men often had the most wonderful asses and David was walking around with a top-notch booty. It wasn’t fair.
She broke the kiss. “Dammit.”
“Yeah, our timing sucks. And I’m glad you’re okay, and you were right to go for the shotgun, but…” He trailed off, then added shyly, “I was kinda hoping to get a look at your beast.”
“Next time.” She took advantage of their proximity to take a closer look at his wound, while resisting the urge to stretch up and taste the spot behind his ear. “Not deep, at least. But you’ve definitely got more holes in you than you did this morning.”
“I’m fast, not infallible.”
“Noted.” Fast was an understatement. It hadn’t been two minutes since they’d gotten out of the car. “Let’s go check on the—”
“Okay, okay! I get it. Caro, you were supposed to drag me clear of the fight. Well, fight’s over, so it’s okay for me to leave the room, so you can just…dammit!”
Annette turned in time to see Pat limping into the kitchen while Caro, in wolf-form, gently clamped her teeth around his calf to hinder his momentum.
“Annette, will you tell her to step off, for the love of all that’s annoying?”
She went to one knee and stretched out a hand to Caro’s wolf, a beast the color of midnight with eyes like hurricane lamps. Such unusual coloring for a gray wolf Shifter. “Thank you so much. You did exactly right. You can let him fend for himself now.”
Caro dropped the bite and made a noise that sounded suspiciously like Hmph!
“Pat, are you okay?” She went to her roommate and started feeling him for injuries. “Does this hurt? Does this? How many of me can you see? Does…ow!”
“I’ll slap your hand again if you keep that up. You know I’m hyperticklish. Why is there blood on your face? Were you so hungry you just started biting them as a biped? Because yuck and I’ll have to get to work on an intervention.”
“It’s just back spatter from the shotgun,” she soothed.
“On your face? In the shape of fingers? Like someone grabbed your face? With their fingers? And snogged you silly?”
“Don’t say ‘snogged’ like you’re British, and can we please realign our priorities?”
“You want to talk priorities? Bad enough I’m ruining my favorite apron to shield the eyes of the tender minors in our care—”
“Pat,” she said, exasperated, “literally no one cares about your dick.”
“My Instagram begs to differ.”

Review:

Power Divided by S. Behr is the first book in her new YA fantasy The Evolutionaries series. This is a new author for me, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I did enjoy Power Divided.   The story starts with a bang, as our heroine, Violet, who is the princess of Neyr (part of the Nine Realms of Amera), has to show her unique abilties, when everything goes haywire and her father lies mortally wounded. Amerans have many extraordinary abilities, such as flying in air, able to live under water, absorb energy, etc.

A distraught Violet runs away only to find herself in the middle of nowhere, with no food or water, and a cute adorable baby fox to help her find her way.  In a cave, she comes across a wall/door, and as she presses her hand on the wall, it automatically opens up for her and her fox companion, who is injured.  It is here we meet one of the best characters in this story, Hailey, a holographic (AI), who will help the injured fox (named Jane), and explain that she is in the “Ark”, a treasure of history locked up, with information of everything before the ice age destroyed the world.  Once she is in this Ark, the storyline does slow down a bit, as with all first books in fantasy, there is a lot world building.  But less then a quarter of the way into the story, it begins to pick up and become very exciting.

Violet is in her glory for a few weeks, having always loved history, as Hailey helps show her how the world evolved, until she knows something is wrong, and she needs to go home; especially with a new group of people trying to access the Ark.

When Violet arrives back home, she is happy to find her father still alive; but she will also learn why she has never been able to master an ability; which not only angers her, but causes a rift between her family.  But Violet has to be strong, and step up as the princess she is, now that Amera has been visited by a group (Hg-1) who have come to get help, as they are being threatened by another group that is determined to destroy them.

The best part of this story is the wonderful secondary characters that Behr has created.  We meet the group who have arrived for help, such as twins Kai and Lance, and young Penelope.  We also get to know more about the Amerans, which include Violet’s friends, such as Lily, Rall and princes from other Ameran realms, such as Leo & Siri.   I really liked all the characters, which always makes the story so much more enjoyable.  Of course, I absolutely loved Hailey, who was so much fun, and Jane, the baby fox.

What follows is an exciting action filled suspenseful adventure that will have us holding our breaths in the last third of the book, with a surprise attack, destruction, death and the amazing abilities by those we began to care about to survive.  I loved Violet, who became such a great heroine, as well as bringing everyone together as a team.

I really enjoyed Power Divided, and amazed how well S. Behr wrote this story, being her debut novel; especially being Fantasy and all the world building. I for one, cannot wait to read the next book in this series.  If you love fantasy, then I suggest you read  Power Divided.

Review:

Ash Bringer by Courtney Leigh was good. The first book in a Storm of Fire series, is always a hard one, if it’s not strong enough, then people won’t be interested in reading anymore. It’s written by the characters points of view (not a big fan, but today it works)

Everly needs to win the Red Race, it’s the only way to free the only person other than her parents (who are dead) she’s ever loved. He’s been like a father to her, so him being wrongly imprisoned doesn’t sit with Everly at all, she can’t break him out, but if she wins the race through the maze, she can have anything she wants, and Everly knows exactly what she wants!!!

Draven knows that his kind don’t belong here, (but they did once, a long time ago) but the humans weren’t strong to hold onto this place, so it’s now belongs to the Draak, and so does everything on Earth. To Draven human women are vessels to use, and anyone not loyal to his race, are vermin to be exterminated!!!

That was a hard book to read, it was amazing stuff, but the animosity that Draven had for humanity was sometimes overwhelming to read, his disregard for human life, and they were all either pets or pests, and so took it out on Everly!! I have to admit I didn’t think he’d ever get past the revenge he wanted for the death of his brother, but like most arrogant alpha males, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.. And fall he did, the brand he placed upon Everly was meant as a punishment, however, it backfired. He felt her emotions, dreamed her dreams and got an insight into his infuriating “pet.”

Everly held her own through most of the book, entering a race to the death for her adoptive father. Winning the race, only to be told her one wish wasn’t to be granted, instead she was to be “branded” and used like cattle (her thoughts) she was prepared for physical torture, to be “used and abused” she certainly didn’t go down without a fight, she fought him physically, and mentally. She didn’t want to understand him, but living under his roof, Everly saw a different side to him, and the Draak in general, they weren’t all killers, they are nurturers, they love their family and the human women who bear their offspring.

The hierarchy of the Draak takes a little getting use to, Draven although the strongest, isn’t the leader, that title belongs to a brother, he’s a fighter not a diplomat. And both have decisions to make, there is a war coming, the rebel humans are fighting back.

So will Everly be able to get past her loathing of the Draak? Can she forgive her “captor and master” for killing her father? Can Draven look past his loathing of the human race?

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 6, 2020

General Malik Xett doesn’t have time for romance. His one and only concern is curtailing the power and influence of the ruthless Sarronti elite. Still, the human female working with him lingers in his mind and fuels his imagination.

Though Kara O’Leary has been attracted to Malik since they first met, she never dreamed he returned her feelings. One kiss ignites a hunger neither can deny, but the timing couldn’t be worse. Hostilities rapidly escalate and new threats are revealed. How can Malik and Kara bring freedom to the “world below” when all they can think about is each other?

••••••••

REVIEW: SLAYER is the first instalment in Cyndi Friberg’s adult SHADOWBORN REBELLION sci-fi romance series-a spin off from the author’s Outcast series, which in turn is a spin-off from Battle born, which is a spin-off from the Shadow Assassins series 😉 . This is Sarronti General Malik ‘Slayer’ Xett, and human engineer Kara O’Leary’s story line. You do not have to have read any of the previous series to understand or follow the current story or timeline.

SOME BACKGROUND: The humanoid aliens known as Rodytes needed a home and settled on two uninhabited planets but to their shock a race of elf-like creatures, known as the Sarronti, live underground away from the light. Without any available mates, the male only Rodytes sent teams of Outcasts to kidnap or persuade any and all human females from Earth in an attempt to repopulate and find mates for their struggling males but procreation came at a price including the need for genetically matched DNA, a mutual metamorphosis, and magical intervention. A test for compatibility is filed and there may be as many as five males matched to a single female DNA. Thirty percent of the females returned back to Earth, and the struggling males begin vying for the female’s affections. Outcasts are battle born-their mothers were Bilarrian prisoners forced to breed, with their Rodyte captors, in the hopes of restoring magic to the Rodyte people. To complicate matters, the planet they now inhabit hides a secret deep beneath the planet’s surface, a secret that is determined to take back what once belonged.

Told from several third person perspectives including Malik and Kara, SLAYER follows two paths: the building romance and relationship between Sarronti General Malik ‘Slayer’ Xett and human engineer Kara O’Leary, and the attack against several settlements in an effort to dissuade the Rodyte Outcasts from establishing a home. Kara O’Leary would quickly discover that finding a suitable mate meant meeting and dating males, who although were DNA compatible, were otherwise not her intended mate but something about Sarronti General Malik Xett immediately caught Kara’s attention. An injury would find Kara in the arms of Malik Xett, and their fated relationship would begin. What ensues is the building romance between Malik and Kara, and the potential fall-out as a war with a rogue faction of Sarronti is about to spiral out of control.

Kara O’Leary struggled to find a place with her human family, and the option of starting a new life on an unknown planet gave Kara a hope for a better future. Like Earth, not everyone is happy with the newcomers or the numerous factions of alien outposts, and as such, specieism, racism and discrimination are about to take hold placing the planet and its’ population at war. Kara O’Leary caught the eye of General Malik Xett from the moment they met but Malik kept his distance until he could keep it no more.

The relationship between Kara and Malik is one of immediate attraction but neither one was willing to take the next step until a potential suitor with a history of aggression places Kara’s life in danger. Kara, although genuinely attracted to General Xett was unwilling to commit to a happily ever after, and needed more time to establish herself and start a new life on a planet she would soon come to call home. Malik knew Kara was his forever mate but bided his time in the hopes that Kara would accept him, as well. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large colorful, energetic and magical cast of secondary and supporting characters including Malik’s mother and Sarronti Prime Healer Arpovae, his brother Salvo (with the ability to conjure portals), and their cousin Jaron; Ayran ‘Scorcher’ Marr; as well as Kara’s friend and cook Natalie Marino. We witness the return of Overlord Kage Razel and Lady Eza, Warlord Torak (Outcasts Series); and the requisite evil Tajon Marr, and Sarronti elite Kantor Alonova and Indrex Farr, whom we also met in the Outcasts series.

SLAYER is a story of family, friendships, discrimination and love. The Sarronti caste system is heart breaking and yet familiar in many of today’s less than progressive societies. The Ayrontu, the highest, most prestigious designation is an ascribed position from birth, and it is the Ayrontu that are determined to remove the unwelcome intruders. The premise is engaging and intriguing; the characters are dynamic and captivating (Jaron is flirty and fun); the romance is seductive and spicy.

With time running out, Jo gets swept up in the fighting and must join with Syn and the Brotherhood against true evil. In the end, will love true prevail…or was the prophecy wrong all along?

••••••••

REVIEW: THE SINNER is the nineteenth instalment in JR Ward’s contemporary, adult BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD paranormal, romance series. This is Band of Bastards mercenary and vampire Syn, and journalist Jo Early’s story line. THE SINNER can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and history as THE SINNER ends this particular arc of the series.

Told from several third person perspectives including but not limited to Syn, Jo, Butch and Devina, THE SINNER follows several paths -the building relationship between Syn and Jo; Butch’s destiny as The Dhestroyer; the reappearance of Devina and the revelation of her true identiy, and the inevitable end of the war with the Omega but the beginning of another.

Journalist Jo Early has been investigating the paranormal including the possibility of dragons and vampires but our heroine never expected to come face to face with a man who may or may not have been sent to kill her. As well as investigating the supernatural, Jo begins looking into a series of brutal killings that are linked to the mob, an investigation that places Jo in the direct line of fire. Syn considers himself a mercenary for hire. Working with the Brotherhood, as well as taking side jobs in an effort to quell his need to kill, Syn finds himself facing his future when a half-breed vampire, just entering her transition, is Syn’s fated mate. What ensues is the building but heart breaking relationship between Jo and Syn, and the potential fall-out when secrets and lies are revealed.

Meanwhile, Brian ‘Butch’ O’Neal aka the Dhestroyer knows his destiny to take down the Omega is about to come to fruition. Believing he will meet his maker, Butch struggles knowing he may not survive the upcoming battle, a battle meant to end the war.

The relationship between Jo and Syn struggles in the face of preconceived notions and Syn’s battle with the demons from his past. Jo suspects Syn is one of the mythical vampires but has no idea that her fate is in the hands of the BDB.

THE SINNER is a detailed and complex story line that ends this particular arc of the series, and sets the stage for the next. As the Band of Bastards begin to find their own happily ever afters, a promise of war is on the horizon, a promise that comes with a surprising revelation. The reader learns about Jo Early’s heritage and her connections to the BDB. We are witness to the Dhestroyer’s purpose, and the end of the Omega. The premise is entertaining and edgy; the characters are broken but spirited; the romance is tense and not without some issues including secrets and lies.
