Review:

Feels Like Falling by Kristy Woodson Harvey is a wonderful fun and emotional stand-alone novel revolving around two women, and their family and friends.

Gray Howard, one of our wonderful heroines, is a very successful business women, who started her own company years before, becoming very wealthy along the way.  Gray is in the midst of getting a divorce from her husband (who also works for the company), who left her for a younger woman; they have a young son, and are currently fighting over terms of the divorce, with him wanting half of the business that Gray started.  Gray has some great friends that support her during this difficult time.

Diana Harrington, the second and equally wonderful heroine, is coming off a recent breakup with her boyfriend, and loses her job.  Diana is struggling to make ends meet; she is in dire straits, with no job or home, distant family, and sleeps in her car.  She meets Gray, who happened be there when Diana lost her job.   When Gray sees Diana sleeping in her car, she offers her a place to stay at her guest house, and a fantastic friendship begins.   I loved both Diana and Gray, who were so supportive of each other, and the banter between them was awesome.  I did love Gray’s best friend Marcy and her partner Trey, too. The friendship between these two women, as well as the female friends for both Gray and Diana made this such a wonderful fun, as well as emotional read.

Diana accepts a job taking care of Gray’s son, cooking for the family and being a perfect friend as well as employee.  Later, she will meet someone from the past, who comes back into her life, as well as opening up to reconcile with her family.

Gray recently lost her mother, and her sister is distant, leaving her to utilize her friends for support. Gray originally hated Brooke, her ex’s young girlfriend, but later on things change, surprisingly, as the heated relationship between her and her ex improves.  When Gray takes her son for a tennis lesson, she meets the handsome tennis teacher, who shows an interest in her.  A slow build romance between Gray her hot young hunk, with her trying to keep it private, knowing nothing can come from any possible permanent relationship.

Feels Like Falling was a fabulous heartwarming story of friendship, love, forgiveness, heartache and absolute fun as we enjoy the camaraderie of these wonderful supportive friends that make life better for all.  Thank you, Kristy Woodson Harvey for a wonderful story that I enjoyed thoroughly.  You should be reading Feels Like Falling.

Review:

Fake It Till You Make It begins with Sloane De Carlo having the ultimate meltdown the morning after she had, after lots of drinking, made her very personal blog public.  It had also gone viral.  Thankfully, her best friend talked her down.  Besides, Antarctica is cold.  And, one good thing came out of this mess:  a book publisher had contacted her about a book based on her blog.

Later, Sloane was out and about and went into her hometown’s only bar, Cassidy’s Place.  Her hopes of not being noticed were dashed when “Guy’s” sister, resident former prom queen and mean girl, Carol sauntered in with a few people……….along with her brother, Marcus, a.k.a, “Guy”.  Of course, Carol makes some passive/aggressive comments and invites Sloane to join them.  Seemingly having no other choice, Sloane does just that.  It doesn’t take long for Sloane to head to the bar to escape for a moment to talk to the only person in Arbor Bay who knows the true identity of “Guy”:  Brady Knox. She had drunkenly (I see a pattern here) told him one night about her crush, and she hoped he didn’t remember, but he did.  Sloane heads back to the table, albeit reluctantly.  Brady doesn’t like how Carol treats most people and knows that Sloane needs saving, so he does the only thing he can think of.  He heads to the table and kisses Sloane in front of everyone.

Brady has his own reasons for the display, but he figures that helping Sloane will kill two birds with one stone.  He and Sloane devise a plan:  Brady will be revealed to be “Guy”.  They will have a fake relationship and then break it off in a few weeks.  No harm, no foul.  However, as things progress, the two of them find themselves attracted to each other, but know that it’ll never go anywhere.  You know what they say………fake it till you make it.  But Carol has other plans.  One thing is for sure:  mean girls are a bitch.

Fake It Till You Make It is a nicely written story.  Sloane experienced a tragic loss at an early age, leaving her to be raised by her older brother.  She never realized how she had closed herself off until Brady became part of her life.   The two of them together make for some laugh out loud moments, along with some personal revelations that tug at your heart.  If you’re looking for a quick read with a little steam, a little humor and a little drama, you’ll not go wrong with this one.  Well done, Anne Harper.

REVIEW: Seductive Scot by Cecelia Mecca and Julie Johnstone is the third novel in the Highlanders Through Time series. This is the story of Reikart McCaim and Lady Deirdre, daughter of the Earl of Fife.

If you read the first two novels in this series, you’ll recognize the brothers of Reikart McCaim, from Ian who is still with him in the future to the two, Rhys and Greyson who are in 1286. If you haven’t read them…more’s the pity?

What you haven’t been told about Reikart is that he’s damaged himself with guilt over the accidental death of a woman he was with in the future. He had a car accident, being a little reckless and she died. But it wasn’t all his fault, but he has conveniently or perhaps inconveniently forgotten everything that was not his fault. So, although he still has had sex with women, he refuses to truly care for any of them. In fact, he’s been very careful to pick only those who want an evening of uncommitted fun.

You should also be familiar with the character of Lady Deirdre. She’s been portrayed as a possible villain. However, we find that while she believed in her brother, Yearger, she was unaware of his plans and schemes and didn’t know he was an actual villain. There are, however, some truths she must face and does.
I don’t like spoilers, and this is a great series, so I won’t tell you everything, just the things I found fascinating and so very well written.

Reikart and Ian do the chant again, after seeing that their cousin would take care of their father and the family shipping business, just in case…
Reikart actually lands on top of Lady Deirdre in 1286. So, is there some design in where the cross and chant lands someone traveling? Hummmm… food for thought! Anyway, he was immediately being attacked by those invading the castle. No, I’m not going to go into why…that little wonderful part you’ll just have to read for yourself. However, he was defending himself and the lady he’d landed on, with encouragement from her. He was in trouble when a familiar voice stopped the fight. Low and behold it was his brother, Rhys! Okay, that’s enough spoilers.

Here’s the questions I came up with. Is Reikart attracted to Deirdre and her to him? Can these two characters forgive themselves for their human failings enough to live life? How does all this wonderful healing come about? Can they recover the imperative fae cross? How will they get away (truly unique answer)?

These are just a few of the details of this marvelous story. Authors Johnston and Mecca do a marvelous and inventive job of giving us pivoting plots, ingenious saviors, family situations and love and so very much more. Yes, of course the romance is sizzling…how could it not be? BTW, I love the cover!

REAPER is a story of family, friendships, duty and love; betrayal and vengeance. The premise is dark and gritty; the characters are dynamic; the romance is seductive and intense.

The SAVAGE trilogy is a spin-off from the author’s NAKED and Dirty Rich series with the appearance of several characters from the author’s Walker Security series. SAVAGE LOVE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one SAVAGE BURN. Lilah Love and Kane Mendez from the author’s Lilah Love series cross over with the current time line.

NOTE:If you have not read books one and two, there may be spoilers in my review.

SOME BACKGROUND: Eight years earlier Rick Savage destroyed Candace Marks’ heart when he sent a ‘Dear Candace’ letter while on assignment overseas but what Candace never knew was that Rick Savage was recruited by a covert CIA black ops unit, a unit whose former members are now in prestigious and powerful places in the US government. When a debt is called in, Rick Savage must face the inevitable including the woman whose heart he destroyed.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Rick and Candace ) SAVAGE LOVE follows in the wake of an attempt on Candace’s life, and the continuing investigation into the people and persons targeting our couple including the possibility of Candace’s current yet former fiancé. While Rick calls in help from Walker Security, Candace must make preparations to face the man who has quite possibly ordered her death. With her father missing in the Middle East, and her fiancé making a run for political office, our heroine struggles with issues of trust, including the man with whom she is still in love. What ensues is the continuing rebuilding relationship between Candace and Rick, and the potential fall-out as best laid plans fail when an unknown combatant / assailant enters the picture.

SAVAGE LOVE is the culmination of three instalments focusing on the who, how and why of Rick’s disappearance and his estrangement from the woman he loves; on the political machine that is US politics; and on the power, control and financial gain of murder, espionage, war and love. Lisa Renee Jones pulls the reader into an impassioned and spicy story that will captivate and seduce.

One final observation, with the appearance of Lilah Love and Kane Mendez, I am hoping their particular part of this story continues in the next chapter of the Lilah Love series or has a resolution in another series. As I have not read the fourth instalment in the Lilah Love series, I do not know if any of the Savage Trilogy has crossed over to the other side.

I don’t just kiss Candace, I ravish her, I drink her in like a man lost in a desert, dying of a thirst he cannot quench. And I was until I found her again. What’s worse is, that desert was of my own making, a desolate fucking desert I’m done with because, thank fuck, she’s not done with me.

Hugging her close, I hold her like this moment is it, like this is the last time I might ever hold her again. I kiss her just the same, like I will never kiss her again. I’ve never kissed her with that kind of desperation before now, and not because I didn’t love her. I just always took for granted that tomorrow would come. And I always intended to come back, but I didn’t and now I know, shit happens. People die, tomorrow is not always guaranteed.

She knows this kiss is different, too. It’s in the way she kisses me back, the way she twists her fingers around my T-shirt. In the way she jerks back, parting our lips, searching my face. In the intensity of her green eyes when they meet mine, the sudden parting of lips, now swollen from my kiss, at what she finds, she orders, “Do not kiss me like this is goodbye, Rick Savage, damn you.”

She tries to dislodge herself from my grip but I hold onto her. “Don’t run.”

She gapes. “Run? Me? I’m not the one who ran.” I physically flinch with those well-deserved words, but she’s not done. “If you want to say goodbye, just say goodbye, Rick.”

“I’m not saying goodbye, Candace.” I catch her hair around my fingers and drag her gaze to my unguarded gaze. I let her see the torment in me. I let her see the guilt. I let her see the dark need in me that isn’t going away like I’m not going away. “This is not goodbye,” I repeat. “This is me making sure that you’re properly kissed, fucked, licked, and loved, the way you deserve to be.”

“It feels like goodbye.”

“No, and one day you’ll trust me enough to know that a dark night doesn’t take us there again. I promise you, you will. Soon.”

“How soon?”

“New York. It’s going to change everything.”

“Can we go now?” she asks hopefully, but we both know we can’t. We both know we have to see tomorrow out.

“I wish we could, baby. I wish we could.”

My mouth slants over hers, my tongue licking deeply, possessively and I make sure every answer she wants is right there in this kiss. I make sure she knows that I’m not fucking living another day without her. She moans into my mouth and when my hands settle on her spine, she arches into me. I rotate her toward the couch, pressing her against the back, my hands finding that soft smooth skin under her T-shirt.

Goosebumps lift on her skin and I tear my mouth from hers. “You have always been exactly what I need.”

“Am I?”

“Oh yes, baby. You are. I felt you even when you weren’t with me. Every day I was away, I felt you. I missed you. I needed the hell out of you.” I catch the hem of her shirt and toss it, my gaze lowering to her breasts, my fingers tracing the swell above the black lace of her bra, then finding her nipple through that lace.

She sucks in a breath and catches my hand. “Rick, I—”

“God, I love when you say my damn name…”
