ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 17, 2020

A sweeping, second chance standalone romance!

I was pretty good at living without regrets until a way too close call during a skydive. Instead of my life flashing before my eyes, I saw one face, one regret that’s been gnawing at me ever since—Presley. The woman I loved madly ten years ago. The woman I had to walk away from.

At first, all I want is to sort out why I can’t get her out of my head. But as soon as I see Presley again, I know I have to win her back at any cost. Brilliant, captivating and utterly beautiful, she’s the one I want.

Fate steps in when we’re asked to pair up to find a treasure in art and antiques. It’s an opportunity I can’t pass up—to uncover a path back to the woman I let get away while we chase down a love story a hundred years in the making.

Trouble is, Presley is tougher now, more wary, and she’s been hurt. By me. So it’s going to take a whole lot more than one hot kiss and a wild adventure together to convince her to give me a second chance.

REVIEW: P.S. IT’S ALWAYS BEEN YOU by Lauren Blakely is a contemporary, adult story line focusing on thirty seven year old extreme explorer Hunter Armstrong, and thirty-five year old historian / archivist Presley Turner.

NOTE: P.S. IT’S ALWAYS BEEN YOU was originally released as a three part serial.

Told from dual first person perspectives ( Hunter and Presley) using present day and letters from the past, PS IT’S ALWAYS BEEN YOU follows the second chance romance between thirty seven year old extreme explorer Hunter Armstrong, and thirty-five year old historian / archivist Presley Turner. Ten years earlier Presley Turner had fallen in love with Hunter Armstrong but Hunter was about to leave to explore the world. An opportunity of a lifetime turns into ten years of silence leaving a heart broken Presley to mourn the loss of the man that she has never forgotten. Fast forward to present day wherein Hunter returns from his latest adventure, with the opportunity to work with the woman he has always loved. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Hunter and Presley as they begin a journey of a lifetime, reliving a life that could mirror their own.

Presley Turner and Hunter Armstrong have been commissioned to unravel the mystery surrounding the life and love between the Caribaldis and Valentinas, a treasure hunt of sorts, but as their journey of discovery unfolds, the letters reveal a deeper and more familiar story. All is not as it appears to be as our couple uncover the clues that will lead them to their own happily ever after.

The relationship between Presley and Hunter is a rekindling romance that was destroyed ten years earlier when Hunter left without looking back. An extreme explorer and sports enthusiast, Hunter was all about the next thrill but he never forgot about the woman he left behind. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

There is large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters, all of whom have a connection to our story line couple, and the journey between the past and the present.

P.S. IT’S ALWAYS BEEN you is a story of heart break and love; second chances and hope. The premise is sweet and intoxicating; the characters are energetic and dynamic; the romance is seductive.

Betting on Love by Jennifer Hoopes – a Review

Betting on Love by Jennifer Hoopes – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple

Description:
Whitney Carroll is back home in Gatlinburg, Tennessee after divorcing her low-down, cheating husband. First thing on the to-do list: Get a job. Second thing: Just say no to men. Third thing: Don’t fall for the boss. One out of three’s not too bad, right?

For Sam Ellis, his to-do list is always work, work, work, trying to keep his family’s legacy alive. Now, out of concern, his siblings bet he can’t keep a girl happy for thirty days, and if he loses he’s out as CEO. No problem, he can fake a relationship. And he knows just who to ask…his new man-vegan assistant.

Yet Whitney’s sexy boss—secret singer and Skee-Ball champion—is definitely NOT boring, and their connection is undeniable. But when a disaster strikes at work, Sam will have to decide if he’s willing to trade in his job for his heart.

Review;

Betting on Love by Jennifer Hoopes is a charming, sexy, flirty fast read.  Ms. Hoopes drops the reader into the dynamic that becomes Whitney and Sam from the first chapter and the sparks fly from there.  Whitney and Sam have a flirty, sexual, yet friendly chemistry that’s apparent from the get go and it just leaps off the pages.  You can’t help but notice the attraction between these two characters and it catapults their adventure from beginning to end.  It’s this instant connection and attraction between the two characters that make the reader dive in, not putting the book down till you’ve read everything there is to know about Whitney and Sam.  It doesn’t hurt that Ms. Hoopes adds a wonderful secondary cast of characters in the form of Sam’s interfering siblings to only add to the already fun and crazy adventure between Whitney and Sam.

I enjoyed both characters, yes they each have a back story that propels them to agree to the crazy bet made by Sam’s siblings, but in the end both realize that the chemistry and relationship that they’ve formed through working together goes far beyond a silly bet.  Both have fallen in love with the other, but don’t know if the other is on the same page.  Instead of just being honest with their feelings and talking to each other they allow work and the bet to get in the way, almost destroying something good between them.  In the end of course love prevails and it all works out but not before a little misunderstanding and anger at one another and themselves gets in the way. However, thanks to Sam’s siblings the two are brought together in the end and when Sam finally shows his secret talent to the whole city by getting up on stage and singing his apology to Whitney for basically being a donkey, I swooned and nearly fell off my chair.  I absolutely loved that scene, I think it was my favourite in the whole story and there were a few funny scenes along the way as well.

Betting on Love by Jennifer Hoopes a perfect book for sitting back with and getting comfortable as we all deal with these uncertain times.  Yes it’s a fast fun read, but it’s also a story that lets us forget what’s happening outside around us and escape for a few wonderful, sexy and fun hours following Sam and Whitney along their adventure.

Until next time, happy reading everyone!!

Description:
State attorney Bridget Nolan is successful in all aspects of her life—except romance. After breaking up with her longtime boyfriend, she’s been slow to reenter the dating scene. To be honest, she has more important things to do like putting bad guys behind bars. But with her brother’s wedding right around the corner, she suddenly needs a date and fast. Lucky for Bridget, the legal intern is almost done with his program.

Matt Kido is dumbstruck by Bridget—total love at first sight—but there’s one problem. She’s totally off-limits while she’s his boss. But the moment he no longer reports to her, Matt decides to take a chance. An impulsive decision takes them to Las Vegas where, as the saying goes, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Unless you put a ring on it.

Review:

Not That Kind of Guy by Andie J. Christopher is a romance standalone novel, though it seems like a series, as the lead characters were part of an earlier story.  I was not sure what to expect, as this was my first novel by Christopher, and I was pleasantly surprised as I thoroughly enjoyed this fun and sexy romance.

We meet our heroine, Bridget Nolan, a tough, smart, beautiful and successful state attorney, who loves putting bad guys (rapists) behind bars; but she is unlucky in love.  After a breakup with her childhood sweetheart, Bridget has no intention getting into another relationship, and just wants to do her job.  Her brother & future sister in law (previous book heroes) are getting married, and her family is pressuring her to bring a date.

Matt Kido, our hero, applies for a summer internship for the state, and is assigned, much to her dismay, to Bridget. Matt Kido comes from a very wealthy family, who also controls a fellowship that Bridget was hoping to get.  He is also coming off a relationship with someone who cheated on him, and despite his ex-trying to win him back, he has sworn off any of her attempts.    Matt is immediately attracted to his new boss, a beautiful hot redhead, who is also a bad ass attorney that always wins her cases.  The attraction is immediate, though Bridget is determined to make sure she doesn’t become involved, especially since she is his boss, though in a short time working together, they do become friends.

When Bridget is desperate to get a date for the wedding, Matt volunteers to be her date, only as friends to meet the family in Las Vegas for the weekend. With her ex also attending the get together, he angers Bridget, and she plays up to Matt; after drinking all night, they both wake up married.

What follows is a fun sweet romance between two unlikely people, who have so much chemistry between them, we knew it would not take long for them to succumb to their feelings.  I loved Bridget’s brother Jack, and Hannah (she was even more bad-assed); as it was fun to see them with Bridget and Matt.  I did not like Chris, the ex; nor Matt’s mother, who tried to break them up; I did like when the mother discovers what Matt’s ex did, and she changes her tune.  Lol

Because of their lust for each other, they decide to stay married until after the wedding, once his internship is done, and he no longer works for Bridget, Matt will do all he can to win her over.  Will Matt succeed?

Not That Kind of Guy was a fun, enjoyable, sexy romance, with a wonderful couple, and great secondary characters.  I wholly suggest you read this book, as it was so well written by Andi J. Christopher.

ABOUT THE BOOK:Release Date February 20, 2020

Only she can save her home …

Upon turning twenty-five, Ceri Ross inherits an estate in Scotland. To avoid losing the druidic enchantments that have kept her alive since her parents’ deaths, she must spend a year at Conlan Manor. When she arrives, she discovers the old druid caretaker isn’t the only one sharing the mansion with her–an uninvited guest is lurking. She calls the security company run by her best friend’s husband and anticipates he’ll set up a system to catch her midnight visitor. Business keeps Rowan Sheridan in the States, but his brother Rio is free–Rio Sheridan, the one man she can’t stop thinking about even though he can never be hers.

Only he can save her…

Ceri Ross is a flirt and a talisman with obligations to the warrior community. She must bond with her fated mate and not spend time with random unattached warriors, yet it seems to Rio that she didn’t get the memo. None of which helps him: the woman calls to him like a siren.

A clan is counting on them.

Hamish Buchanan has taken care of Conlan Manor for years. The energy swirling around the Conlan heir and the big American warrior she’s hired to protect the most secure stronghold in the Highlands gives him hope. If Ceri’s warrior discovers his mate within the confines of the manor, the clan will enjoy enhanced protections from the violent war goddesses for ten generations. If only Ceri and Rio would stop sparring long enough to figure out they belong to each other..

REVIEW: WARRIOR is the second instalment in Tam Derudder Jackson’s contemporary, adult TALISMAN paranormal, fantasy, Celtic mythology series. This is twenty-five year old, event planner Ceri Ross, and twenty-eight year old, security specialist Riordan Sheridan’s story line. WARRIOR can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading book one TALISMAN for back ground and history.

SOME BACKGROUND: Centuries earlier, the Morrigan cursed the descendants of the Sheridan family, a curse that has the potential to be broken with the mating of a warrior and his fated mate. Desperate to prevent the breaking of the curse, Morgan sets into motion a series of battles that will pull the Sheridan family into a war where family and friendships will be tested. Morrigan is part of Celtic mythology representing the cycle of birth and death, but is also the patron of magic and revenge, prophecy and night.

Told from several third person perspectives including Ceri and Rio, WARRIOR focuses on the relationship between twenty-five year old, event planner Ceri Ross, and twenty-eight year old, security specialist Riordan Sheridan. On her twenty-fifth birthday Ceri Ross inherited her family estate in Scotland. To ensure the druidic magic continues to protect our story line heroine, Ceri must spend one year at Conlan Manor leaving her friends and family behind but Ceri discovers there are secrets and magic surrounding Conlan Manor, and heightened security is needed to protect those within. Enter Ceri’s nemesis and current target of aggression Riordan ‘Rio’ Sheridan, and the man with whom Ceri will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Ceri and Rio, and the potential fall-out as Maeve sets her sights on our leading couple.

Riordan ‘Rio’ Sheridan is descended from a long line of Celtic warriors, who before midnight on their twenty-eight birthday must find the woman, their talisman, their fated mate who will fight, in tandem, against the Morrigan(sisters Morgan, Macha and Maeve) or fear fighting beside the goddesses for all eternity. But Rio’s brother Rowan’s mating with Alyssa, broke part of the curse, allowing the warriors to live past their twenty-eighth year.

Rio and Ceri’s attraction to one another is fraught with angry energy and cutting words that barely hide the palpable sexual intensity between a warrior and his talisman but Rio refuses to ‘test’ the theory that Ceri is his mate, preferring to watch from a distance as his anger unfolds. Ceri Ross has known from childhood that she is a talisman, and has trained for the day where she will be asked to stand by his side but with each mating, the talisman will come into her full power, with an ability that is meant to help her mate in an upcoming battle. Immediately upon discovering Rio is her mate, our heroine’s attitude did an abrupt one-eighty knowing they would have to face the Morrigan together. With the approach of Samhain, reinforcements are needed as the Sheridan, Conlans and Ross Clans prepare for a celebration, bringing together Rio’s brothers and their mates , his parents, and Ceri’s aunt in an effort to prepare for the upcoming battle.

The relationship between Ceri and Rio begins acrimoniously as Rio is perturbed to discover that Ceri is a talisman who flirts and flaunts with every available male but his family history will prove there is a backstory to his anger and turmoil. Upon the discovery that Ceri is his talisman, our couple are quick to forget about their jealousy and anger, anger that was growing with every interaction. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Rowan and Alyssa (Talisman #1), Riley and Lynette, their parents Sian and Owen Sheridan, guardian Finn Daly; Ceri’s aunt Shanley; druids Hamish Buchanan and Davy Sutherland; and warrior Alaisdair Graham ; weather god Taranis; goddesses Scathach (warrior woman and martial arts teacher), Maeve and Morgan. Alaisdair and Shanley’s story line is next in Prophetess.

WARRIOR is a detailed story line that closely follows Celtic mythology and lore with druids and warriors; gods and goddesses, magic, family, destiny and love. The complex premise is enchanting, inventive and clever ; the characters are animated and edgy; the romance is seductive and energetic.

Description:
Sometimes the happiness we’re looking for has been there all along…

Adele and Justine have never been close. Born twenty years apart, Justine was already an adult when Addie was born. The sisters love each other but they don’t really know each other.

When Addie dropped out of university to care for their ailing parents, Justine, a successful lawyer, covered the expenses. It was the best arrangement at the time but now that their parents are gone, the future has changed dramatically for both women.

Addie had great plans for her life but has been worn down by the pressures of being a caregiver and doesn’t know how to live for herself. And Justine’s success has come at a price. Her marriage is falling apart despite her best efforts.

Neither woman knows how to start life over but both realize they can and must support each other the way only sisters can. Together they find the strength to accept their failures and overcome their challenges. Happiness is within reach, if only they have the courage to fight for it.

Review:

Sunrise on Half Moon Bay by Robyn Carr is an emotional and sweet story of family and sisterhood.  Justine and Adele are sisters, but with the 20-year age difference, they are not that close, but they do care about each other.  Justine is a successful attorney, being the breadwinner for the family, and married to Scot, a stay at home dad, with two children.

Adele was planning to go to college, but when her father died, and her mother had a stroke, she dropped out of school to take care of her mother.  Justine helped staying with the mom once a week to give Adele a break, and giving her money, as well as playing their expenses.  8 years later, her mother dies, and Adele needs to find a way to resume her life.  At the same time, Justine’s marriage is falling apart, as her husband is having an affair, and spending his money on his mistress.

What follows is a change in both of their lives, with Justine moving forward with a divorce, as well as having to deal with her husband using the money to pay off his mistress debts; and Adele deciding it was time for her to find a job.  It was nice to see Adele accidently fall into a job which helps people, and discovers she is very good at it.  The sisters become closer, as they both must face the new challenges life has given them, and be able to be there to support each other along the way.

Both Adele and Justine will also find themselves with friends that eventually would grow to a relationship, giving both the happiness they deserved. I liked the many secondary characters Carr created, which included Adele’s work friends and Jake, who was her best friend; as well as Justine’s friend who helped her through the divorce and a new job.  I did not like Scot, nor his girlfriend, who both not nice.

Sunrise on Half Moon Bay was a wonderful heartwarming and emotional story line, very well written by Robyn Carr.   It is a story that revolves around two sisters, in very different stages of their lives, who bond together to embrace their sisterhood and the changes life offers to bring back happiness.

“Has it ever occurred to Scott to get a serious job?” Adele asked. “I mean, forgive me, since I haven’t had a serious job in my life.”
Justine smiled patiently. “Your jobs have all been serious, and without you we’d have been lost. If you hadn’t dedicated yourself to Mom’s care, it would have cost our whole family a fortune. We’re indebted to you. And I agree it would help if Scott worked more than part-time, but I think that ship sailed years ago. He’s only worked part-time since Amber and Olivia came along.”
Adele adored her nieces, ages sixteen and seventeen. She was much closer to them than she was to Justine.
“I’m sorry you’re going through this,” Adele said. “I wish there was something I could do.”
“Well, the thing is, the future is looking very uncertain. I might need your help,” Justine said.
“What could I do?” she asked.
“Adele, I don’t like to push you, but you have to get it to¬gether. We have to make some decisions about what you’re going to do, what we’ll do with the house. I realize what I’ve given you for your hard work hasn’t been much, but I don’t know how long I can keep it up—paying for the maintenance on this house, the taxes, a modest income for you… I don’t want to panic prematurely,” Justine said. “Maybe I’ll be able to work everything out without too much hassle, but if I run into trou¬ble… Money could get very tight, Addie. All those promises I made—that I’d help financially while you fix up the house, that I’d give you my half of the proceeds when and if you sold it… I might not be able to come through. I know, I know, I promised you it would be yours after all of your sacrifice, but you wouldn’t want me to ignore the girls’ tuition or not be able to make the mortgage…”
“But Justine!” Adele said. “That’s all I have! And I was con¬sidering finishing school myself!” Though if she was honest, she had no plans of any kind.
Justine reached out to her, squeezing her hand. “We’re a long way from me needing money. I just felt it was only fair to tell you what’s going on. If we’re in this together, we can both make it. I swear, I will make this all work out. I’ll make it right.”
But as Adele knew, they had never really been “in it together” in the past, and they wouldn’t be for very long in the future. Addie’s dedication to their parents allowed Justine to devote herself to her career. For that matter, it should be Justine and Scott shoring each other up. At least until Justine had a better idea. But where was Scott today? Golfing? Biking? Bowling?
Adele realized she had some difficult realities to face. When she dropped out of school to help her mother care for her fa¬ther, she wasn’t being completely altruistic. She’d needed a place to run away to, hiding an unplanned pregnancy and covering her tattered heart. She’d never told her family that her married lover—her psychology professor—had broken down in tears when he explained he couldn’t leave his wife to marry Adele, that the college would probably fire him for having an affair with a student. For her, going home was the only option.
At the time Justine and Scott had been riding the big wave and didn’t lust after the small, old house in Half Moon Bay. That house was chump change to them. So, they worked out a deal. Adele had become her mother’s guardian with a power of attorney. But the will had never been adjusted to ref lect just one beneficiary rather than two. In the case of the death of both parents, Adele and Justine would inherit equal equity in the eighty-year-old house and anything left of the life insur¬ance. At the time, of course, neither Adele nor Justine had ever considered the idea that Adele would be needed for very long. But before Adele knew it, eight years had been gobbled up. She was thirty-two and had been caring for her parents since she was twenty-four.
Adele, as guardian, could have escaped by turning over the house, pension, social security to a care facility for her mother and gone out on her own, finding herself a better job and her own place to live. She wasn’t sure if it was her conscience or just inertia that held her in place for so long.
“I just wanted to make sure you understood the circumstances before anything more happens,” Justine said. “And since you don’t have any immediate plans, please don’t list the house for sale or anything. Give me a chance to figure out what’s next. I have children. I’ll do whatever I can to protect them and you. They’re your nieces! They love you so much. I’m sure you want them to get a good education as much as I do.”
Does anyone want me to have a real chance to start over? Adele asked herself. This conversation sounded like Justine was pull¬ing out of their deal.
“I’ll think about this, but Scott has responsibilities, too,” she pointed out.
“He’s been out of the full-time workforce for so long…” Jus¬tine said.
“Just the same, we all have to live up to our adult commit¬ments and responsibilities. And you’ve had a highfalutin job for a long time. You’ve made a lot of money. You can recover. I haven’t even begun.”
“I need your help, Addie,” Justine said. “You need to come up with a plan, something we can put in motion. Make plans for your next step, put a little energy into this old house, make suggestions of what we should do with it, everything. Let’s fig¬ure out what to do before I find myself short and unable to help. I’m sorry, but we have to move forward.”Excerpted from Sunrise on Half Moon Bay, Copyright © 2020 by Robyn Carr. ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 1, 2020

Stella Locke is starting over. After an ugly divorce, she picks up her Southern roots and transplants to upstate New York where the air is crisp and no one knows her name. She’s an enthusiastic reader and just so happens to pick the quaint little spot where her favorite author lives. The small town of Grace welcomes Stella with open arms, a new job, and a smoking hot neighbor.

Lane Holder is a bit mysterious with his midnight jogs and brazen flirting. He’s got an adorable corgi named Chap who immediately steals Stella’s heart. In time, Stella is blown away by Lane’s charm, maturity, and undeniable interest in her. Being out of the dating game for 20 years has filled her with self-doubt and the hurt endured from her marriage has made her want to keep that part of her past hidden. Still, Lane convinces her to take a chance on him.

Their relationship is a slow, steamy burn that seems to be building toward something special and permanent. But as with any relationship built on secrets, one wrong move and it all could come crashing down.

REVIEW:Changing Lanes by Season Vining is book one in The Welcome to Grace series.

Stella Locke has recently divorced her cheating husband and has decided to pick up her life and move to upstate New York. Stella picks Grace, New York because that is where her favorite romance author Alaina Taylor lives. Her thinking is that if its good enough for Alaina its good enough for her to start over. Upon arriving in Grace she meets her next door neighbor Lane Holder. Mysterious, smoking hot man that jogs every night at midnight. Lane slowly breaks down Stella’s defenses and a beautiful relationship begins.

The sub-characters in this story were amazing and hilarious. Stella’s real estate agent turned best friend is outrageously hilarious and I am praying that she gets her own story soon. She is on of those characters that you want to know more about.

Stella and Lane have amazing chemistry, but when Stella finds out that Lane has been lying to her, all games are off. She has been betrayed before by her ex-husband, but this hurts way worse. Will she be able to forgive him?

And will she even want to take him back?

This was an imaginative, fun romantic read. The story pulls you in and you become invested in small town Grace and the characters that live there.

Looking forward to more books in this series. Recommend highly if you are looking for a boy next door romance with lots of laughs.

What makes a cover?
by Season Vining

Along with the apparent upswing in romantic comedy novel sales has been a trend in illustrated covers to go along with them. Maybe both of these things coincide with the madness and chaos of the world today. People need a distraction—something light with moments of hilarity and heart. RomComs and illustrated covers seem to both fit the bill. Plus, they’re fun. And for those of you who like to carry around paperbacks in public, they are not sexually suggestive no matter what the content of the book is.

The first question when building a cover is, do I want a couple or just one person or just an object. This is completely subjective to the author/designer/publisher’s taste and what they think will sell the book. For RomCom, both members of the couple are almost always represented. Then, what do you want your audience to feel when they look at your cover? Turned on? Happy? Inquisitive? The answer will set the tone of the cover, which could covers everything from the style of illustration, background elements, and colors used.

Like in my new RomCom, Changing Lanes. I knew I wanted an illustrated cover and I knew I wanted the couple on there. But I also knew that Chap, the adorable and lovable corgi featured in the story, should have his place too. There are a lot of elements of the story represented on the cover. For example, you can see Stella’s work apron with the name of the bookstore she works at. Chap sits atop a stack of books, so you know that those are important to the theme of the story. There are fall elements, letting you know when the book takes place. And finally, a road to literally represent Changing Lanes.

When the book is part of a series, you’ve really got to think ahead enough to makes sure that you can create a cover for each book that is unique and appealing while fitting in with the rest of the series seamlessly. Changing Lanes is book 1 in the Welcome to Grace series. I added the fall elements, because there are four books and four seasons. Each cover will have its own theme.

In the end, the cover is usually what sells your book. It is what makes people stop and read the blurb. It is the first impression. So, make sure it’s a good one. Most importantly, make sure it represents the story and overall feel so that readers know exactly what to expect. Sure, there can be twists, turns, and surprises… but leave that to the writing.
