For the cases no one else can solve, they send in the Special Threat Assessment Team

Supernatural creatures are no longer keeping their existence secret from humans, causing panic around the globe. To investigate, monitor, and―when necessary―take down dangerous supernatural offenders, an international task force was established: The Special Threat Assessment Team.

STAT agent Jestina Ridley is in London with her team investigating a suspicious kidnapping. Over her radio, Jes hears her teammates being savagely attacked. She runs to help, but she’s too late. The only survivor, Jes calls for backup and gets former Navy SEAL and alpha werewolf Jake Huang and his new pack. Convinced that the creature who butchered her teammates was a werewolf, Jes doesn’t trust them. But if they’re going to uncover the facts and make it back home alive, she’ll need Jake’s help. And with everything on the line, Jes will have to accept Jake for who he is, or lose the partner she never expected to find…

Review:

Wolf Under Fire by Paige Tyler is the first book in her new STAT: Special Threat Assessment Team series. The STAT series is sort of a spin off from Tyler’s SWAT series, which also had one of the members from the SWAT team being the hero in this series.   The STAT team is assigned unsolvable cases, which will include supernatural creatures.

Jestina Ridley, our heroine, works for Special Threat Assessment Team (STAT) and is on assignment with her fellow team mates to investigate a kidnapping, which horribly goes wrong with the death of her teammates.  Jes had a glimpse at a strange creature when she arrived on the scene, but what she may have seen disappeared quickly.   Her boss brings her back home, as she is now being placed on a new team.

Jake Huang, a former Navy Seal, whom we met in previous SWAT story, has been placed in charge of the STAT team.  Jake is an Alpha werewolf, and meets his team for the first time, before they all head to London to work on the kidnapping case.  Jes at first is not too keen on some of the members of the team being werewolves, as she fears werewolves were the ones who killed her team. In a short time, she will learn to accept them as good guys, as well as the surprise attraction she has with Jake.  The rest of the STAT team were awesome, as I loved them all; Caleb, Misty, Harley and Forest; as well as Zoe & Chloe, whom Jake took under his wing, as part of his pack. I loved the concept of Misty being a technopath, and what she can do.  Very cool.

Once the team begins to investigate the case, it becomes obvious that more is at stake than just a kidnapping, which could involve high level attacks on political and wealthy people, escalating to a major world changing effect.  The team will also discover these creatures (more than werewolves) are difficult to kill.

What follows is an action packed, non-stop, exciting thriller that held me on the edge of our seats throughout, unable to put the book down.   There were so many dire situations that had the team in danger, with their lives hanging by a thread;  Tyler had so many surprises and twists, that kept us on our toes.  I loved that over a short period of time, Jes and Jake began to have strong feelings and chemistry between them, and soon Jake will realize that she is the ‘One’.  They were so good together.

Wolf Under Fire was a sensational start to this series.  It was an exciting action filled adventure from start to finish, with a wonderful couple, and great secondary characters, whom I am sure will play major parts in the future books.  Once again Paige Tyler gives us fun new series, which I cannot wait to see what she has in store of us next.

Jes sprinted down the hall without giving it a second thought. Grabbing the last man through the door by the collar of his jacket, she yanked him backward, flipping him over her hip and slamming him to the floor before he knew what was happening.
Balling her hand into a fist, she punched him in the throat hard enough to stun him, then ripped his pistol out of his grasp while he was gasping for air. Refusing to think about the brutality of the situation, she placed the barrel of the large-caliber automatic against the man’s chest and squeezed the trigger. In this position, the recoil of the big weapon was ferocious, but she ignored it—and the resulting blood—focusing instead on snagging the extra magazine from the man’s underarm holster.
Getting to her feet, she approached the room carefully. The last thing she needed was to catch a stray round from one of the guards—or Jake.
Pressing her back against the wall outside the open door, Jes darted to take a quick look inside. The room was filled with acrid smoke from the flashbangs, but she could still see the dead bodies strewn across the floor. Jake and Misty were nowhere in sight and something told her they’d taken cover behind the heavy desk that was flipped over.
The piece of furniture was thick enough to stop the spray of bullets the men were popping off, but the gunfire was so intense Jake couldn’t even try and get off a shot in return. Since the bad guys were already spreading wide to circle around and come at the desk from both sides, the situation was only going to get worse.
What if Jake had already been hit?
That thought scared the hell out of her. She’d heard a werewolf could absorb a lot of damage, but how much was too much?
“Backup’s arrived,” Jes announced loud enough for Jake to hear her in his earbud, even over the gunfire, then took aim and started shooting.
The moment the men realized someone was coming at them from behind, they turned their weapons on her. At the same time, Jake popped up from behind the desk and began blazing away with the automatic in his hand. Bodies started dropping under the combined effort.
Jes was sure they’d gained the upper hand, but then a flashbang came at her through the light haze of smoke still filling the room from the previous ones. Cursing, she leaped back into the hallway to keep it from blowing up right in her face. She hit the floor hard, the air getting knocked out of her. Ears ringing, she scrambled around and lifted her pistol, knowing a bad guy would be coming to finish her.
But no one did. A moment later, the shooting stopped. It was immediately replaced with a roar and a growl that seemed to echo through the house and make the entire third floor vibrate.
Jes quickly climbed to her feet, only to fall on her butt again as Jake and Damien crashed through the wall. Somewhere along the way, they’d lost their weapons and were now locked in hand-to-hand combat, like two enraged monsters. Jake wasn’t the only one with claws, either. Damien had them, too.
Jake had been sure the creature that had attacked Jaime and Neal wasn’t a werewolf, but seeing Damien fight, she was beginning to think Jake had been wrong.
Jes got up on one knee, trying to get a shot at Damien, but he and Jake were moving way too fast as they smashed each other into first one side of the hallway, then the other, fists slamming into their opponent so hard she could hear bones break.
She was about to say the hell with it and take a shot at Damien regardless of the risk, but then he slung Jake bodily across the hall, bouncing him off the wall. Even though it had to hurt, Jake immediately jumped to his feet and kicked Damien in the center of his chest, shoving him halfway down the hallway.
Jes didn’t waste the opportunity. Lifting her weapon, she emptied the remainder of her magazine in the man’s chest. Damien flew backward from the impact of all those rounds hitting, slamming into the floor so hard she felt it. She didn’t give a crap if he was a werewolf. That many bullets through the center of his chest had to mean he was freaking dead.
Dropping the spent clip, she quickly slammed a new magazine in and chambered a round. The son of a bitch had killed Jaime and Neal and tried to do the same to Jake. It took everything in her not to put all the bullets in the fresh magazine into him. The only thing stopping her was the knowledge that she might need them if they had to fight their way out of the manor.
She was so focused on keeping her weapon trained on Damien where he lay on the floor, she didn’t even realize Jake had disappeared back into the room until he ran out with a limp Misty in his arms. Jes’s heart sank like a stone.
“We need to go,” Jake said, striding past her and heading down the hallway away from the steps. “We’re about to have more company.”
Jes didn’t ask how Jake knew that. She simply chased after him.
The fight with Damien must have caused him some serious damage, but Jake carried Misty without slowing down. They were almost at the end of the corridor when she heard the thud of footsteps on the stairs behind them.
Jes glanced over her shoulder to see at least ten armed men reaching the third floor. That was bad enough. But then Damien sat up, shirt covered in blood and looking pissed as hell…and not nearly as dead as he should be. Suddenly, the group of armed men didn’t seem like a big deal. Damien worried her way more.
Turning, she sprayed the men—and Damien—with half the rounds in the magazine just to make them duck, then ran after Jake again. She expected him to seek refuge in the last room along the hallway. Instead, he yanked open the french doors at the end of the corridor with one hand, exposing a small Juliet balcony.
What the hell were they going to do with that? It wasn’t like they could hide out there. The balcony was too shallow. Besides, Damien and the rest of Darby’s men had already seen where they were headed.
Jes was about to ask Jake as much when he gently placed Misty on the floor. Before she could question the move, he turned, put both hands on Jes’s waist, then swung her over the metal railing of the balcony, holding her by one wrist and dangling her like a toy.
“When I let you go, grab the railing of the veranda below us,” he said, dark eyes intent on hers.
Wait. What?
Jes opened her mouth to tell him he was insane—that she wasn’t a werewolf with superstrength and animallike reflexes like him—but she was already falling. She released the pistol she didn’t even realize she was holding, somehow miraculously grabbing the railing on the second-floor veranda before she fell to her death.
Crap. It felt like her shoulders were being ripped out of their sockets.
She was never doing that again.
Jes was still hanging there in midair when she felt as much as heard Jake leap past her. She looked down just in time to see him land on his feet on the lawn below her, Misty wrapped firmly in his arms.
He’d jumped from the third floor of a building—with someone in his arms—and landed on his feet.
Double crap.
Setting Misty on the ground, he scooped up the automatic pistol Jes had dropped, firing it at something above her. She flinched when the bullets struck the metal balcony, but then felt like cheering when the men up there grunted as other bullets struck flesh.
“Let go!” he shouted to Jes before shooting another volley at the floor above her. “I’ll catch you.”
That idea was even crazier than the first one, but Jes did it, falling at a dizzying speed. She opened her mouth to scream, unable to stop herself, but then strong arms snatched her out of the air before setting her on her feet. She barely had a chance to catch her balance before Jake grabbed her hand and dragged her away from the manor.
He scooped up Misty in one arm on the way even as bullets kicked up the grass all around them. Seconds later, the big Rolls-Royce SUV was barreling across the lawn toward them, Harley at the wheel. The moment it skidded to a stop, Forrest jumped out of the passenger seat to take Misty from Jake while Caleb got out of the back and fired a MAC-10 machine gun at the remaining men on the third floor. Jes wasn’t sure if he hit anyone, but they sure as hell ducked.
Jake led Jes past Caleb and practically shoved her into the backseat, then jumped in after her, deftly climbing over her to take the window. The big omega followed, sitting on the other side of her and yanking the door closed as Harley floored it, tearing the grass to all hell as they sped away.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 26, 2020

She has him just where she wants him…

Joelle Sommers is very good at her job as a PI and bail recovery agent, but she’s definitely out of her element when she arrests sexy businessman Dean Colter in a case of mistaken identity. Because unlike her usual fugitives, Dean is cooperative, accommodating, and hot as sin . . . and not at all guilty as charged. But this bad boy isn’t so innocent either, and she finds it increasingly hard to resist his seductive charm, and their mutual attraction.

After years of working himself to the point of having no life outside the office, Dean Colter is in the mood for an adventure. But being kidnapped by a gorgeous bounty hunter—one he discovers is into bondage, to boot—isn’t exactly what he had in mind. Still, it doesn’t take long for him to realize that being a willing captive has its advantages.

Jo might be the one with the handcuffs, but Dean’s about to discover the key to unleashing the passionate, uninhibited woman beneath the tough, stubborn facade. And when he does, all bets are off.

••••••••

REVIEW: HOT AND SEXY is the first instalment in Erika Wilde’s contemporary, adult SOME LIKE IT SEXY erotic, romance series focusing on the Sommers siblings. This is former police officer turned PI and bail recovery agent Joelle Sommers, and businessman Dean Colter’s story line.

NOTE:HOT AND SEXY was originally published as A Wicked Seduction by Janelle Denison.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Joelle and Dean) HOT AND SEXY focuses on the building relationship and romance between former police officer turned PI and bail recovery agent Joelle Sommers, and businessman Dean Colter. Joelle Sommers believes she needs to prove herself in a business where the majority of investigators are of the male persuasion. When a new case comes into the firm, Joelle volunteers to bring in the man who jumped his bail for grand theft auto but to Joelle’s surprise the man she takes into custody is unlike any of the bond jumpers she has ever known. Enter businessman Dean Colter, and the man with whom Joelle will fall in love. What ensues is the take down of, and cross-country journey with Dean Colter, and the potential fall-out when Dean and Joelle’s time together comes to an end.

Dean Colter had no idea that he was a wanted man. A case of mistaken identity finds our hero locked in a car, then a hotel room with a sexy woman whose issues of control come from years of misogynistic attitudes. Once a cop whose life spiralled out of control, Joelle found herself working with her brothers at Sommers Investigative Specialists, a position where she often found herself under the protection of her two older brothers. Needing to prove she is worthy of the job, Joelle jumps at the opportunity to bring in Dean Colter but finds herself falling in love with a man who is probably innocent of the crime he has been accused.

The relationship between Joelle and Dean begins as a take down and arrest for our story line hero. Going along for the ride, Dean, who is supposed to be on vacations, sets his sights on seducing Joelle Sommers but quickly loses his heart to the woman who struggles in a malecentric world. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Joelle’s brothers: Cole and Noah, and their receptionist Melodie Turner, as well as Dean’s mother Anne. Cole and Melodie’s story is next in Hot and Heavy.

HOT AND SEXY is a story of family, friendships, acceptance and love. A case of mistaken identity, the quick building lust to love relationship is tempered by the prospect of Dean having to return home, leaving Joelle behind. The premise is captivating; the romance is tender and seductive; the characters are colorful, energetic and impulsive.

With a low groan, Jo stretched her aching muscles and tried to roll to her side, certain her alarm would go off at any second to wake her up. Her right arm refused to follow the movement of the rest of her body and instead ended up twisted at an awkward angle above her head. Frowning at the odd sensation biting around her wrist, and perplexed at the unexplainable and uncomfortable position she seemed to be in, she blinked her lashes open and found herself looking directly at her prisoner reclining casually on her bed, his head propped up by his hand, unrestrained and completely in control.
He stared at her in return, the dark stubble lining his lean jaw intensifying the green hue of his eyes. “Good morning, sweetheart,” he drawled in greeting.
She barely heard his words…not when her mind filled immediately with alarm that he’d managed to escape somehow. Then pure, undiluted panic registered when she yanked on her hand again and realized she was the one secured to the headboard of the bed, putting her at his mercy. Adding to her internal chaos was the knowledge that her keys and revolver were on the nightstand between them…far, far out of reaching distance.
Her heart beat so hard she feared it would explode from her chest. She had no idea how she’d gotten in this predicament, couldn’t remember anything at all to give her a clue as to why she was the one shackled to Dean’s bedpost, or how the authority had shifted in Dean’s favor.
No matter the hows or whys, she refused to be a victim. She scrambled to a sitting position, preferring to be defensive instead of defenseless. Narrowing her gaze on him, she jutted her chin out. “How did you manage this clever trick?” she asked, opting for a sharp, snide tone to drown out the fear churning in her belly.
He had the audacity to wink at her. “I’ve always heard a magician never reveals his secrets.”
“You’re a felon, not a magician,” she snapped irritably, hating that this man had somehow, some way, duped her.
He feigned a wince at her well-placed barb, which did nothing to hide the humor dancing in the depth of his eyes. “Come on, Jo,” he said, cajoling her with his rich voice and sexy smile. “If I was really a felon on the run, fearful of standing trial back in San Francisco, I would have been long gone by now, leaving you to your own devices and letting the motel maid find you shackled to the bed. And if I was some kind of malicious criminal, I would have taken advantage of you hours ago.”
Her heart rate slowed as she mulled over his comment, knowing instinctively that what he said was true—no real convict would have wasted such a prime opportunity to flee. Knowing, too, that his behavior since she’d captured him and the evidence she’d discovered in his wallet all lent undeniable credibility to his innocence. Now she was forced to trust him, his story, and her own intuition.
Believing him came much easier this morning than it had last night, not that she was going to admit that out loud and give him any more leverage than he’d already managed to gain.
Calmer now, she wanted, needed, an explanation. “Could you tell me how I ended up cuffed to your bed?” she asked, then followed that up with a polite, “please?”

With the intention of bringing Tyndal back home to the Valley, Ravel and his brother, Rafe, journey to the outside world. She is needed at home, it is time for her to take her place in their society. It is Rafe’s hope that he will catch her interest and return as his wife. It is, however, not to be, as with one kiss, Ravel realizes that she belongs to him. He will fight anyone that gets in his way, even his brother. How can he get her to come back willingly though?

Forced to go to Ravel’s help, Angelika’s family travels to Tyndal’s home and the fun begins. It takes the female members to track her down, and then, much to the dismay of the men, they decide to indulge in their idea of having a good time before they leave for home. The problem with this is that it does not involve the men. How are they to not only find their wives, but get them to go home peacefully after they have been allowed to run wild in this world?

Review:

Angelika Leanne by M.A. Abraham is the 3rd book in her Daughters of the Valley series.  Angelika, our heroine, moved out of the valley through the portal when she was 16 years old, feeling neglected by her family and issues with her sister.    She stays with her godmother, Tyndal and becomes a major success in creating bakeries.

Both Rafe and Ravel decide they need Angelika to return home, where her abilities are required, as she reaches her powerful  destiny.  Rafe will realize quickly that Ravel is the one who will mate with Angelika, as their bond is apparent.  Though she feels their attraction, she wants nothing to do with Ravel, and spends most of her time at her bakeries.  Ravel, despite his determination to win Angelika, will have his hands full, even to the point of giving up.

It was nice to see the family and previous heroes return (Teryka, Merika, Riven, Tyrus, etc)  as they try to help Ravel and Tyndal to bring Angelika back.  In the last book, when Teryka (Angelika’s mother) was the heroine, she worked for an evil film producer, and eventually escaped back home to the Valley. It is this same producer who wants to find the portal, hoping to gain immortality.  He is a very powerful and evil man, who will stop at nothing to get his way.  He hires people to kidnap Angelika, and the last half of the book becomes a bit more exciting, though the shenanigans of the wives against their husbands was fun.

What follows is a wonderful fun and exciting story, with a nice romance of two people determined to fight their destiny.  I really enjoyed seeing all the wonderful characters Abraham has given us, as well as Ravel and Angelika.  This is a story that you need to read and enjoy, so giving too much information would ruin it.  M.A. Abraham once again gives us a sweet lighthearted story line, and dangerous excitement.  I suggest you read Angelika Leanne.  It was a fun read.

The Fiery Crown by Jeffe Kennedy – Review & Guest Post

The Fiery Crown by Jeffe Kennedy – Review & Guest Post

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Following The Orchid Throne, Conri and Lia’s marriage of convenience has turned into an uneasy alliance. If only the two leaders could agree on something. Driven by revenge, Conri wants to attack Emperor Anure before the tyrant gets to them first. But Lia needs to keep Calanthe safe, and refuses to sacrifice her kingdom. Their ongoing battle for control has built up tension they’re both more than happy to release in bed, the only place where they find common ground. But Conri and Lia are developing deeper feelings for each other that are complicating matters. In the second book in the Forgotten Empires trilogy, Conri and Lia find their loyalties torn, and with Emperor Anure’s threat growing, will they be able to risk everything with each other before it’s too late?

Review:

The Fiery Crown by Jeffe Kennedy is the 2nd book in her Forgotten Empires series.  The story picks up immediately following the ending of the first book, The Orchid Throne.  Lia and Conri are now married, and though they are both attracted to each other, especially in bed; they both have their own differences how to move forward to fight the evil Emperor Anure.   Conri continues to want vengeance against Anure, who destroyed his home (Oriel) and his family.   Lia, knowing that Anure wants her and her powerful Orchid ring, is determined to keep Calanthe safe, even if it means her life.  The two of them continually argue over what is best, though when it’s bedtime, their sizzling chemistry takes over.

With word passed on to Anure about the marriage, he is now bent on coming to Calanthe to take the Queen, even if she is now ‘spoiled’.  Despite his unbending determination to enact his vengeance against the emperor at any cost, Conri begins to have strong feelings for Lia, though using her as bait, could cost her life.  Lia, is a fantastic heroine, who is tougher than she looks, and her bravery, especially nearer to the end was amazing. Slowly, she reveals a little bit throughout the book about her magic (she is an elemental), especially why there can be no blood on Calanthe.  A surprise twist here.

What follows is a fantastic fantasy set in a world of magic, a flower island, and queen who puts her island first. The Fiery Crown is a much faster paced story line, with a lot of plotting and plans early on, and then the last half of the book was nonstop action, tense fighting, some of which held my breath. I will say that some torture scenes were painful to read.  Besides Lia and Conri, Kennedy created some wonderful characters, including Ambrose, Sonia, Ibolya, Kara, Raven, Vesno, just to name a few.

To tell too much more would be spoilers, and I do not want to ruin this book for you.  You need to read and enjoy every moment.  Jeffe Kennedy did a masterful job writing this story, and I for one cannot wait for the final book in this trilogy.  If you enjoy fantasy, romance, great couple, wonderful characters, including an evil villain, you should be reading The Fiery Crown.

Writing from Two Different Viewpoints by Jeffe Kennedy

When I began writing the early drafts of THE ORCHID THRONE, I thought of it as Lia’s story. I wrote it in first person point of view (POV) because it was her tale to tell, the perspective of an embattled queen awaiting the arrival of a dread enemy upon her shores. I knew Con first as only “the Slave King” in my mind, this brutal rebel who Lia would have to battle. In fact, I titled my first working draft “The Slave King and the Flower Queen,” which pretty much sums up the story right there.

Then I showed the first fifty or so pages to my agent, Sarah Younger at Nancy Yost Literary Agency, and Sarah loved it—yay!—but she also wanted moar Con. She suggested that I write alternating chapters from his POV, to give us more of his side of the story.

Okay then! So I began writing Con’s chapters, detailing the events that led up to him arriving on the shores of Calanthe. I wrote them in third person POV, to distinguish his voice from Lia’s. I wrote about a hundred pages of the book that way and we sold the Forgotten Empires trilogy to St. Martin’s Press based on those pages.

Before I finished writing the book, I asked my editor, Jennie Conway, if she had any early editorial input before I went any farther. Guess what? She wanted even moar Con. Jennie suggested that I write Con in first person POV too, so we’d grow to know him as well as Lia.

Let me tell you, folks—no matter what anyone claims—changing a POV from third to first person takes a great deal of work. It’s not a matter of changing pronouns. I ended up rewriting all of Con’s chapters, and writing from inside his head did change things drastically. While it wasn’t always easy—and I sometimes had to fix it in edits—I tried to differentiate their voices by keeping Lia eloquent and intellectual, while Con is more working man and staccato.

By the time I came around to writing the sequel, THE FIERY CROWN, I had the rhythm of writing Con and Lia’s perspectives. And, of course, now I can’t imagine the series being told any other way. I love going back and forth between their perception of events—and their struggles to understand each other. THE FIERY CROWN is a story about the personal war they’re engaged in with one another as much as the greater battle they’re facing. Their conversations are like sword fights in my head: with Con swinging his heavy two-handed blade and Lia delicately and precisely wielding her rapier wit.

Between the two of them, they just might save the world. If they don’t kill each other first.

REVIEW: BROKEN is the third full-length instalment in Rebecca Zanetti’s contemporary, adult DEEP OPS erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for the US HDD (Homeland Defense Department) and Angus Force’s Requisition Force Team. This is former US Navy SEAL Clarence Wolfe, and reporter Dana Mulberry’s story line. BROKEN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Wolfe and Dana BROKEN follows Clarence Wolfe as he continues to hunt for the person responsible for, killing every man in his Navy SEAL unit, leaving Wolfe battling the memories where is all went wrong but Wolfe never expected to find reporter and part-time Requisition Force Team member Dana Mulberry haunting the same club as our story line hero, a club that specializes, and caters to the people who live on the kinky side of life. But all does not go according to plan when Dana’s target is killed, and Wolfe soon recognizes they have been looking for the same man. With the help of Angus Force’s Requisition force Team, Dana begins to unravel the clues as it pertains to a missing journalist, a journalist who may have uncovered too many secrets of some very powerful men. Meanwhile, Clarence Wolfe is determined to go it alone-like his name, Wolfe is a lone wolf, and will not stop until Gary Rockcliff, the man that killed his friends, is behind bars or dead but said man has a new target, and Dana is now in his sights. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Dana and Wolfe, and the potential fall-out as Gary is always one –step ahead of our story line hero, one step that places Dana in the direct line of fire.

Clarence Wolfe doesn’t do relationships believing himself too screwed up from the injuries he suffered in Afghanistan. With only one goal and one path, Wolfe is determined to take down Gary Rockcliff, no matter if is gets him killed in the process but meeting and falling for journalist Dana Mulberry, divides Wolfe’s attention, forcing our hero to protect Dana before finishing his mission, on his own.

The relationship between Wolfe and Dana is one of immediate attraction but Wolfe keeps to himself, and refuses to place Dana, or his teammates in the direct line of fire. Worried that Wolfe’s suicide mission will be a success, in more ways than one, Dana pulls the Requisition Force Team together to protect the man with whom she is falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including former police detective and undercover operative Malcolm West, and Pippa Smith, (Hidden #1), Special agent Raider Tanaka, and computer hacker Brigid Banaghan (Fallen 2) , Requisition Force team leader Angus Force; Angus Force’s quirky whiskey guzzling, lipstick eating German shepherd Roscoe, and Wolfe’s pocket sized kitten Kat: FBI psychiatrist Dr. Nari Zhang; former MI6 Agent Dr. Jethro Hanson; Special Agents Tom Rutherford, and Kurt Fields.

BROKEN is a story of betrayal and vengeance; family, friendships, relationships and love. The premise is fast paced, energetic and dramatic; the characters are strong-willed, energetic and captivating; the romance is seductive and hot. BROKEN continues to reveal a little bit about Angus Force’s determination to take down a man he once believed was dead; and like so many heroine’s in romantic suspense story lines, Dana Mulberry was a little disappointing- often TSTL (too stupid to live)-determined to place herself in the direct line of fire, claiming, as a journalist, her priority was to finish the job, regardless of the number of people murdered or dead (sigh)

Description:

James Lionel Falconer has risen quickly from a mere shop worker to being the right-hand man of Henry Malvern, head of the most prestigious shipping company in London. With Malvern’s daughter Alexis running away to the country after a terrible tragedy and refusing to return, James’ ascent to head of the company seems inevitable. But even a charmed life like James’ is not without its setbacks.

A terrible fire threatens to end his merchant career before it’s had a chance to truly begin. Mrs. Ward, James’ former paramour, has a secret that could change his life forever. And his distaste for Alexis Malvern is slowly growing into feelings of quite a different sort. Can James continue to be the master of his own fate, or will all of his charm, intelligence, and wit finally fail him when he has to enter the lion’s den?

Review:

In the Lion’s Den by Barbara Taylor Bradford is the 2nd book in her House of Falconer series, and even if you have not read the first book, this reads very well as a standalone. In the Lion’s Den is set in Victorian times in England 1889-1892. James Falconer, our hero, has worked hard working for Henry Malvern’s shipping company, and has successfully risen up to be his right-hand man.  James enjoys his job, has a great relationship with Malvern and other staff members, but he continues to dream about opening his own business in time.

Alexis Malvern, is Henry’s daughter and heir apparent to the company, who after the death of her significant other, runs away to the country side, avoiding anything to do with the company.  Alexis has friends where she is staying, as she slowly grieves, and she ignores her father’s constant attempt for her to return home.

When some things go wrong, such as a fire, and embezzlement, James is promoted by Henry Malvern to become managing director of the compnay.  He travels to Kent to meet with Alexis, to show her the changes being made, and she is very rude to James.  In a short time, Alexis will realize that she cannot continue to stay away, and it was time for her to go home to her father and the company.   James agrees to stay another year and train Alexis on taking control of the company and becoming the managing director, as well as the charity she runs.

What follows is watching Alexis work with James, and a slow built romance starts, as both have strong attractions to each other.  Alexis realizes how mean she has been to James, and knows this was due to her feeling an attraction to him early on, making her run away.  I really loved James and Alexis together, and was happy to see that Alexis was able to rise above her tragic loss and open her heart up again. I also loved many of the secondary characters who played a major role in this story.

In the Lion’s Den was well written by Barbara Taylor Bradford, with a wonderful Victorian background, a bit of history, wonderful characters and romance.  This is a difficult review to write, as you really need to become immersed into the story line, enjoying Bradford’s ability to narratively tie all the pieces together.  In the Lion’s Den is another winner for Barbara Taylor Bradford, and I suggest to read this story.

Review:

Accidentally Family by Sasha Summers is a good solid read.  It has a little of everything in it; drama, romance, ups and downs of life, teen issues, humour, and even death.  I think it’s safe to say this one runs you through the gauntlet of life but in the end love does triumph over all.  Miss Summers writes her story as if she is actually walking down the streets of Pecan Valley and knows each character personally.  As I got more and more into this one, that’s exactly how I felt, as if I were a part of Pecan Valley and I was watching the events of friends and family unfold before my very eyes. It’s the type of story you get invested in for not only the main characters, but the secondary characters as well, and you want everyone to wind up in a good place by books end.

Both Graham and Felicity are very real characters with real lives, and real life issues.  Felicity and Graham are both struggling with putting their lives back together after they each find themselves single for different reasons; Felicity her husband left her and their children for another women, Graham his wife passed away from cancer leaving him to raise their teen daughter.  Neither have had it easy, but they were always there for each other, but never thought they’d find love again, yet alone finding love with each other.  Their journey to their HEA isn’t easy as it meets with restraints in the form of Felicity’s son Nick, where as Graham’s daughter Dianna  sees right away that they have feelings for each other and thinks they’d be great together and she’d love to be a part of Felicity’s family.  Thanks to Felicity’s son their romance falls off the tracks for a bit but thanks to his aunt Charity, his sister and Dianna, he finally sees what they all see and realizes he needs to help fix the situation and does so in the end with everyone’s help.  Along the way Nick also comes to terms with his new baby brother and winds up loving him even more then he thought.  Yes I know the main focus of this story is about Felicity and Graham, but seeing Nick go through his transformation from hating is dad for everything he did and caused to his family brought a raw and realness to the story that once again made you connect to another character in the story on a different level.  There were also a few other mini stories going on beyond Nick’s.  You had Honour and Owen’s young love story, Felicity’s sister Charity coming back home single and pregnant and reconnecting with her old flame Officer Martinez, just what was up with them in the past and where could their story go??  One can only guess until their story is hopefully written.

As I said at the beginning of my review, Accidentally Family is a good solid read from beginning to end.  It’s the kind of story that gets you invested in not only the main couple but everyone else involved.  Yes there we some very raw and serious moments in this one, but Miss Summers balanced everything out with some humourous and fun scenes as well.

Until next time, happy reading everyone!!
