Review:

Stealing Thunder by Alina Boyden is the first book in her new fantasy series with the same title.  When I started reading this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but upon completion of this story, I am happy to say Stealing Thunder was an excellent read.  The story did start a bit slow, which is normal for any worldbuilding in fantasy; but the second half was very exciting and awesome.

Razia Khan is our heroine throughout the entire book, and she is a trans gender woman, who gave up life as a crown prince to live her life as a woman.  Razia escaped from her evil father, to become a hijras in Bikampur, where she lives with other girls who are dancers, some also being transgenders.  She is one of the finest dancers, a courtesan, as well as being a thief to help her leader pay bills.   Over time, Razia has become the best at everything she does.

During one of her performances, Razia meets Prince Arjun and both become attracted to each other, as they begin to spend a lot of time together.  He also discovers that she is stealing expensive items for her leader, and arranges for her to leave her dera, bringing along two of her ‘sisters’ to become his concubine.   When Razia left her family, she missed her zahhak (dragon) and Arjun allows her to ride his zahhak, bringing back her memories of her long lost dragon,  Sultana.  When Razia goes to live with Arjun’s family, his father puts her down, even though his son cares for her, but with war on the horizon against a powerful enemy, Arjun’s father will quickly change his tune.  Razia’s background as the young heir to the family throne, gives her amazing knowledge and skills that will push her into the forefront of this war.  Those who look down on her, such as Arjun’s father, her cousin, and others, will begin to see how smart she is, as well as being able to know how to stop and defeat their enemies.

I loved how Razia finds her lost dragon, Sultana, and uses her abilities to climb a mountain, and get the help they need to defeat the enemy.   But that will bring her face to face with her father, who is determined to kill her.  Can Razia be able to use her savvy, smarts and Sultana to help her win the battle for her life?  To tell too much more would be spoilers, and you really need to read and enjoy the wild and climatic ending.

The last half of Stealing Thunder was very exciting, nonstop action, with flying dragons, aerial battles, and a heroine who stood up to the challenge.  This was also a sweet romance, as I did like Razia and Arjun together.  Alina Boyden did a great job writing this wonderful fantasy, and I for one cannot wait for the next book.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 12, 2020

He’s sexy. Alphalicious. And suddenly a dad. .

Austin Prescott is a lot of things. Ex football player. Sports agent. And as of this morning? Father. Finding a baby on his doorstep should have been a joke but the pink sticky note and baby carrier she came in is deadly serious.

What’s an out of his depth bachelor to do? Call his tempting and beyond gorgeous executive assistant and beg her to move in.

Quinnlyn Stone agrees to help Austin until he can straighten out his messy life. It’s just another item on her very long To-Do list. It’s absolutely not because she’s attracted to her very single and extremely handsome boss.

Close quarters. A baby. Undeniable chemistry. What could possibly go wrong?

•••••••

REVIEW: DARE TO RESIST is the first instalment in Carly Phillips’ contemporary, adult DARE NATION erotic, romance series focusing on the Prescott/ Dare family-another spin off from the author’s DARE TO LOVE series. This is sports agent Austin Prescott, and PA Quinnlyn Stone’s story line. You do not have to have read the previous series to understand or follow the current timeline but like the original series, there is a back story involving the Dare family, and by extension the Prescott family.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Quinn and Austin) DARE TO RESIST follows the forbidden relationship between thirty four year old, sports agent Austin Prescott, and twenty-eight year old PA Quinnlyn Stone. Austin Prescott was in desperate need of a new PA; with his father / uncle’s upcoming surgery, and Austin donating a much needed kidney, our hero was struggling with his depleting time line. Enter PA Quinnlyn Stone, and the woman with whom Austin will fall in love but all does not go according to plan when an abandoned baby is found on Austin’s doorstep, a baby Austin knew nothing about. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Austin and Quinn, and the potential fall-out as motherhood was never in the cards for our story line heroine.

Quinnlyn Stone never wanted children but ‘working’ alongside Austin as he struggles to raise the daughter he never knew finds Quinn reconsidering her options but in the end, our heroine refuses to give in to her heart and her soul. Austin had no idea that he had fathered a child. Knowing nothing about raising a baby, Austin begs Quinn Stone to move in and help, placing temptation within reach for our story line hero.

The relationship between Quinn and Austin is one of the forbidden. Austin Prescott is Quinnlynn’s boss, and our heroine refuses to jeopardize her position for an affair with our hero but the attraction is palpable; and everyone including family knows that in the end, our couple will end up together. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Ian and Riley Dare (Dare to Love #1), Alex and Madison Dare (Dare to Desire #2) : Austin’s siblings-baseball player Jaxon, doctor Braden, sister Bri, and football star Damon, their mother Christine, and their biological father Paul Dare: as well as Quinn’s best friend and PI Evie Wolfe. Evie and Damon’s story line is next in DARE TO TEMPT.

DARE TO RESIST is a multi-troped story of family, friendships, revelations and love. The premise is emotional and inspiring; the romance is seductive and spicy; the characters are energetic, lively and sassy. DARE TO RESIST is an encouraging and animated look at family, blood or otherwise.

Love Me Forever: Dirty Rich Betrayal (Dirty Rich #11) by Lisa Renee Jones-Review  and Excerpt Tour

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 12, 2020

Grayson Bennett returns.

A powerful man, the king of the world to some, but he is nothing without Mia Cavanaugh. She is his life, his heart, the reason he breathes. Shaken by an attempt on her life, Grayson is ready to marry her, love her, protect her, but the threat isn’t over. He has lost everyone he loves before Mia. He will do anything it takes to protect her and call her his forever.

•••••••

REVIEW:DIRTY RICH BETRAYAL: LOVE ME FOREVER the eleventh instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult DIRTY RICH romantic, suspense series, and the second instalment in thirty-eight year old, billionaire businessman and attorney Grayson Bennett, and thirty-year old, criminal lawyer Mia Cavanaugh’s story line. DIRTY RICH BETRAYAL: LOVE ME FOREVER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading DIRTY RICH BETRAYAL (Dirty Rich #4) for back story and cohesion but the author has generously recapped the previous events leading to the current timeline. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. As per most of Lisa’s series, there is a slight cross-over with inclusion of some of the characters from the author’s Walker Security series, Eric Mitchell (The Filthy Trilogy), Grayson Bennetts best friend, as well as Reese Summer and Cat Maxwell (Dirty Rich #1).

Told from three first person perspectives (Mia, Grayson and Eric) using present day and memories from the past,  DIRTY RICH BETRAYAL: LOVE ME FOREVER picks shortly after the events of Dirty Rich Betrayal (Dirty Rich #4) wherein Mia and Grayson have reunited following a year forced apart by betrayal and revenge but with their reunion, the threats continue until someone dies placing Mia and Grayson in the direct line of fire. The group known as The Dungeon is determined to destroy Grayson Bennett, using the woman he loves in the process. With the help of Blake Walker and Walker Security, as well as Graysons best friend Eric Mitchell, the team uncover the truth behind the attempts on their personal security and private lives. As Grayson battles between head and heart as it pertains to the safety of the woman he loves, Mia must come to terms with an upcoming case, a case where the odds are quickly stacking against Mia, and the woman she is about to defend.

DIRTY RICH BETRAYAL: LOVE ME FOREVER is a story of betrayal, vengeance, retribution and love; a story of revelations and acceptance. The fast paced premise is engaging, captivating and intriguing but the final conflict resolutions were too easy-too neat and clean; the romance is passionate and seductive; the characters are colorful, strong and intense. LOVE ME FOREVER is a dramatic story of second chances and happily ever after.

My lips part Mia’s and I can taste a million missed moments on my tongue, a million wants, and needs. A million demands my body craves and I want to bury them all inside her. I reach up and catch the top of her blouse just above her buttons and yank, tiny buttons flying everywhere. She gasps and already I’ve unhooked the front clasp of her bra. Already, my gaze is raking over the swell of her high breasts, the pucker of her pink nipples.

“Grayson,” she whispers, and there was a time not so long ago that I thought I’d never hear my name on her lips again, at least not spoken with that raspy burn of a plea. And that’s what my name is on her lips right now: a plea.

I know what she wants, what she needs and I need. That forbidden burn of submission she has often admitted to wanting, the need in her that answers my need for control. For her, it’s the only time she allows herself to fully let go, to dare to give me that control, and fear nothing. For me, inside that control is her trusting me, her being all-in in every possible way. I’d like to say I know she is, and on most levels I do, but the bite of her leaving is fresh. Her believing I cheated is a bleeding wound, only now healing. But it is healing. That said, it’s true, absolutely fucking true, that her submitting right here in our bedroom and showing me how much she trusts me, feels urgent. It feels necessary.

Cupping her hands behind her back, I yank her to me hard and fast, her naked breasts smashed to my chest. I’m about to kiss her and turn her over and spank her when she says everything I didn’t know I needed to hear in a mere three words. “I was lost without you.” A moment later, she pushes to her toes and presses her soft lips to mine.

Just like that, she spreads a softer, sweeter emotion through me and that dark hardness only she understands submits to her. She owns me. There was a time when I might have tried to fight such an absolute need, but there was never a chance. Not with Mia.

I tear away her jacket and toss it aside, cupping her head and slanting my mouth over her mouth, drinking her in, drugging myself with that sweetness of hers that is so damn perfect. The kind of sweetness that brings a man to his knees and I’m already there. I’ve been there. Her fingers tangle in the thick strands of my hair and it’s as if we’re swept into a far, far land, in the middle of an ocean where only we exist. Where we’re drowning in each other.

It’s Mia that ends that kiss, tearing her lips from mine and reaching for my tie. Impatient, I grab it and yank it out of my collar. Another time, I’d use that tie, I’d twist it around her wrists. Five minutes ago, before her confession, before her kiss, I’d been in that place where the past year fucks with my head. A place where I’d lost her and my father. I’d have done just that. I’d have used sex to take us away, to consume us, and run from the pain. Instead, I’m here, I’m present, and I don’t want to be anywhere but here and present.

I’ve barely tossed it aside when she’s fumbling with my buttons. “Why are you not naked right now?”

“You first,” I murmur, turning her around and unzipping her skirt. She kicks off her heels and when my hands slide under the material, I slide it, and it alone since she’s still pantyless, down her hips. She steps out of it and when I might otherwise hold her here, I don’t. Not now. That’s not what I want now. She rotates to face me and just her standing there willingly naked and vulnerable is enough. I don’t care about control right now. And my need for that is a dangerous black hole I need to avoid.

Trust.

I have to give it to get it.

I have to remember that my walls created her fears.

I unbutton my shirt and then just tear my shirt over my head. I’ve barely tossed it aside and she’s pressed against me, soft and warm. She presses her lips to mine again, and the minute her tongue strokes mine, that need only she stirs inside me explodes…

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 12, 2020

The Montgomery Ink saga continues with an unforgettable romance where two best friends make a bet that could change their lives forever.

Bristol Montgomery and Marcus Stearn have been best friends for so long, they sometimes forget when they weren’t as close as they are now. While friends and family think there’s something beneath the surface of their friendship, the two have always been steadfast in their stance on no heated looks or deeper feelings.

The problem? Years ago, they promised each other that if neither of them was married by the time Bristol turned thirty, they’d marry each other.

Even though both have long since decided never to force the other into an arranged marriage, circumstances and sheer stubbornness force them to refuse to back out of their deal.

Now, they’re determined to get married—even as dangerous exes and feelings they deny, block their path.

••••••••

REVIEW:Embraced in Ink begins with everyone attending Bristol Montgomery’s 20th birthday party. She is preparing to move away to pursue her music education and career. Her best friend, Marcus Stearn is in attendance as well. Neither of them can imagine their lives without the other in it. As the party winds down, the two of them vow to stay close even though they will be miles apart. Then, Bristol comes up with a plan for their future: if neither are married in ten years, they will marry each other. Marcus is a little taken aback but decides to make the pact. After all, what could go wrong?

Flash forward ten years and the two of them are at another family get together. Both are still single and a little uneasy about the pact that was made. When they are leaving the party, the conversation about said pact is brought up and when Bristol is overheard saying they were engaged, the family hears and to say everyone is excited is an understatement. Not wanting to discuss it in front of everyone, they let them believe it’s true and leave.

Now, if either of them were to admit to the other that they were starting to have feelings of more than friendship, things would have gone smoothly. But they don’t. Instead they discuss it and for some really jacked up reasons, they decide to actually be engaged.

Of course, Marcus is questioned by the Montgomerys at a guys’ get together and Bristol is questioned by her girlfriends, but neither gives away their secret pact. Once things start playing out between Bristol and Marcus, a former boyfriend (and fellow performer) shows up just in time to stir up a little trouble….at first. The ex is not happy about Marcus and Marcus is not happy that this guy shows up and seems a little too interested in Bristol. Add to that the fact that Bristol doesn’t see what the problem is and Marcus ends it and storms out.

Bristol is heartbroken and is afraid to tell Marcus her true feelings, just as Marcus is afraid to do the same with her. What follows leaves Marcus reeling and Bristol’s life in danger.

Embraced in Ink is a nicely written story of friends to lovers. Bristol is a great character, albeit a little naïve in my humble opinion. Marcus is a great character as well. Once things start spinning out of control, neither one of them steps up to set things right until it’s almost too late. I love the protectiveness of the Montgomerys. However, the Stearns support of both Marcus and Bristol tugged at my heart. If you’re a fan of friends to lovers, you’ll certainly enjoy this one. Well done, Carrie Ann Ryan!

ABOUT THE BOOK: RELEASE DATE May 12, 2020

The stakes have never been higher, and she’s full of the devil.

Edward Fasbender is my husband.

Together, we brought down powerful men.

Now we have a chance to start over. To be the family neither of us ever had, to leave the past in the past where it belongs. Edward has a choice to make.

It will decide if we fall into the flames–or rise together.

•••••••

REVIEW:RISING is the fourth and final instalment in Laurelin Paige’s contemporary, adult SLAY erotic, dark, romance quartet focusing on businessman/billionaire media mogul Edward Fasbender, and Celia Warner. The SLAY Quartet is a spin-off from the author’s FIXED series, and falls in the timeline before Fixed Forever and a few years after Forever with You. Some of the events cross-over and run parallel between series. RISING should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book three SLAY: REVENGE.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: Years earlier, Warren Werner and his brother Ron took over and dismantled Edward Fasbender’s father’s business, and in the ensuing time ruined the lives of Edward and his sister Camilla. Fast forward to present day wherein the time has come for Edward to take down the Warner family, starting with Celia, then targeting Warren and Ron.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Edward and Celia) RISING is the culmination of four instalments that focuses on the love/hate relationship between our leading couple, and Edward’s need to take down the Warner family but Edward’s growing love for Celia falters when secrets, lies and perceived betrayal begin to affect the rest of their lives. The past resurfaces, revealing the depths to which Celia and Hudson destroyed so many vulnerable lives, and the fall-out as Edward is unable to come to terms when the truth is revealed.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Edward’s adult children Hagan and Genevieve; his sister Camilla, and her son Freddie ; Celia’s parents Madge and Warren;Hudson and Alayna Pierce, and Hudson’s brother Chandler.

The relationship between Edward and Celia continues to be sexually aggressive, seductive and intense. There also continues to be major issues of trust, secrets, and lies of omission that affect the couple’s relationship going forward. Edward is a dominant lover who uses $ex to punish the woman with whom he has fallen in love. I struggled with the use of a certain four-letter word.

RISING sees Edward Fasbender’s vengeance come to fruition yet reveals the growing love Edward feels for our story line heroine. Celia and Hudson’s games have caught up with the couple, and Alayna Pierce (Hudson’s wife) is caught in the middle forcing Hudson and Celia to reveal all of their sins. The premise is intense; the romance is raw; the characters are broken but healing. RISING is a provocative and engaging story of vengeance and the true meaning of love.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 11, 2020

Their marriage was nothing more than a business transaction. Or at least that was what they told themselves.

Poppy Weston had been burned enough times by undeserving men to know her heart was best left under lock and key. She was content with her life, even with the lack of romance. Then Jase Hyland walked into Redbud Inn and offered her something she couldn’t refuse. In return, all she had to do was marry him.

Jase had seen firsthand the kind of damage relationships caused, and he wanted nothing to do with it. He’d been taught from a young age that the only things that should matter to a man were wealth and power. However, all it took was a series of events to lead him down a path he never expected to travel.

It was supposed to be simple. No feelings, no emotions, just two friends entering into a mutually beneficial arrangement.

He thought he had it all figured out . . . until he went and fell for his wife.

Sandy’s REVIEW: CRAZY BEAUTIFUL is the second instalment in Jessica Prince’s contemporary, adult REDEMPTION erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the people who live and work in Redemption, Tennessee. This is thirty five year old, businessman Jase Hyland, and B&B owner Poppy Weston’s story line. CRAZY BEAUTIFUL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Several weeks earlier Jase Hyland discovered that his father had been embezzling from the family owned company but before Jase was able to ascend to the position of CEO, the board of directors demanded our hero marry or give up the position to his cousin Titus. With only one potential “wife” on the horizon, Jase asks his best friend Poppy if she would become his wife for the foreseeable future, in an effort for him to take over the Leadership of the company. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Jase and Poppy, and the potential fall-out as Jase’s family demands what they believe is their just due, targeting Poppy in the process.

Poppy Weston knew that to marry Jase meant slowly succumbing to her falling heart but when Jase’s family sets their sights on our story line heroine, Poppy finds herself facing her own mortality for a man who has suffered for far too long.

The relationship between Jase and Poppy is a friends to lovers, fake marriage arrangement wherein Poppy reluctantly agrees to marry Jase in an effort to protect his heritage from falling into the wrong hands but Poppy knows she is about to lose her heart to a man who isn’t willing to settle down for the long haul. Sarah’s REVIEW “Jase Hyland, you’re my favorite person..”

The second in the Redemption series by Jessica Prince, and what a journey this one was…

Redemption isn’t just a place for Jase, it’s home. After finally freeing his sister from the hellish linage of his parents, Jase takes over Hyland Steel, the family company. This however comes with a cost. A cost he was more than willing to pay once he found the right person. To take the CEO position, all he had to do was marry…

Sounds easy right?

Poppy Weston gave 7 years to a man that hurt her, broke her heart and her wallet. Her little Inn was her pride and joy, but she was at her limit. When her best friend’s older brother comes home for his little sisters wedding, things might just get a little crazy. Jase and Poppy grew up together, have known each other for years, but came from two different worlds. When the Inn takes a turn for the worst, Jase swoops in for a save. A plan to help them both. To get married. A business deal, one to help them both.

Jase and Poppy tie the knot and their future begins, a future that neither of them thought possible. Soon Jase and Poppy can’t see the line they thought they drew before getting hitched, but they don’t care. Emotions that Jase thought were not possible blossom, and Poppy soon becomes a person that means more to him than anything.

The past however, doesn’t want to see Jase and Poppy happy and comes back to bite them.

Oh my! Jessica Prince has out done herself in this one. Crazy Beautiful is sure to warm the heart of anyone that reads it. This story is one of hope, love, trust and redemption. The characters have the best chemistry, the story line is detailed and progressive. As always the author gives us a little reprieve from the day to day of life and hope of love. 5 out of 5 star review, can’t wait for what comes next!

Quiet rained down on the dimly lit back porch, oppressive and thick with the tension I’d unwittingly walked into.
I’d never done well with awkward silences. I had the nasty habit of rambling in an effort to fill the void any time I found myself in that situation. That compulsion came over me then, spurred on even more by the fact that any time I was in Jase Hyland’s orbit, I turned into a flustered, bumbling disaster.
“I’m so sorry. I wasn’t lurking, I swear. I honestly didn’t know you guys were out here. Then when I did, I wasn’t sure what to do. I kind of froze.”
The sigh he released before bringing the tumbler in his hands to his full, pouty lips and sucking back some of the amber liquid inside sounded like it carried the weight of the world.
“It’s all right, sweetheart. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
I began to fidget in place, shifting from foot to foot and wringing my fingers together in front of me as the full force of his attention hit me like a wrecking ball.
My heart was at risk of doing a Kool-Aid Man impersonation and busting through my chest at any second.
Even with half of his features still shrouded in darkness, I knew exactly what he looked like. I’d spent enough time watching him during his visits to see his sister that I’d managed to memorize every sinful inch of him. And yes, I realized that made me sound like a psycho creeper. But I couldn’t help myself.
His well-trimmed brown hair had just enough product in it to keep it from flopping over his forehead but wasn’t overly styled. By this time of night, there was bound to be a five-o’clock shadow dusted across a strong, square jawline. The bridge of his nose had a tiny bump, making it slightly imperfect, but still attractive on such a handsome face, and his sharp cheekbones made him look almost regal. He was like a slightly scruffed-up Chris Evans. In other words, gorgeous.
He wasn’t like any of the men I’d grown up around. Redemption, Tennessee had its fair share of attractive guys, believe me. But this man was different. Where the men in my town lived in T-shirts, jeans, and flannel, Jase was well-groomed, usually in slacks and a button-down.
From my vantage point, I could see that his shirt was opened casually at the collar, and the cuffs of his sleeves had been rolled up to expose solid, veined forearms. Arm porn at its finest. The shirt was fine quality, tailored to fit his broad shoulders and thick biceps perfectly.
As usual, his look screamed money, but not in a flashy way that said he was trying to show off. It was how he carried himself. His calm, cool confidence gave off that impression.
God, he’s gorgeous, I thought, as I continued staring, unable to pull my attention away from his perfect, masculine features. I’d never been so thankful for dim lighting. It was the only thing hiding the insane blush that burned through my cheeks and chest—just one of the curses of being a redhead. “I’ll just, uh . . .” I trailed off pathetically, hooking my thumb over my shoulder and taking a step back.
“No, stay.”
Two little words from his gorgeous mouth, and I felt the need to fan myself. Clenching my fists to keep from doing that, I took hesitant steps in his direction, bracing my hands on the railing around the porch once I finally reached his side.
I didn’t have the first clue what he and Bennett had been arguing about, but I couldn’t stand to see the blank, stoic look on a face that was normally so happy. I arched a playful brow and stated, “You look like you’re about two seconds away from making a run for it.”
His head twisted toward me, one corner of his mouth kicking up in a smirk that made my belly flutter like a million hummingbirds had taken flight. Those golden-brown eyes, lined with long, dark lashes, danced with humor in the pale glow of the porch light. “You wouldn’t be too far off the mark, Flower.”
My heart did an Olympic gymnast-style flip at the name he’d christened me with on his very first visit to Redemption. Said in that husky voice of his, I nearly melted into a puddle of goo right then and there.
I twisted to face him full on and sucked in a dramatic gasp. “And risk the wrath of Farah? She’d murder you so dead.”
His smile was still there, but for the first time that night, I noticed just how tired he looked. There were faint purple smudges beneath his eyes. The scruff on his jaw was longer than I’d expected it to be, his hair unrulier.
Don’t get me wrong, he was still hotter than a damn forest fire, but it was evident in the lines on his sexy face that something was weighing on him.
“Hey,” I started, lowering my voice. “You all right?”
He downed more of his drink, bourbon, judging by the smell of it, and used that time to school his features and paste a carefree expression on before responding. “I’m good, Pop.”
With how often Jase had come to town to visit Bennett and his sister, staying at the inn most of those times, I’d gotten to know him well enough to consider us casual friends. More than acquaintances, but not besties by any stretch of the imagination. Still, I cared that something was plaguing him.
“You know, it’s none of my business if you don’t want to talk, and I’m certainly not gonna push, but if you ever need someone to listen, Jase, I’m never more than a phone call away.”
His glass came down on the iron banister with a clank. The intensity in his gaze as he stared down at me—like he was seeing something deep inside me at that very moment, something I didn’t understand— stole my breath and caused my lungs to deflate.
“You’re something else, Poppy. You know that?”
My blush grew so furious I thought I might actually catch fire at any second. “I’m just me,” I said quietly, looking up at him through the fan of my lashes. “Nothing special.”
His voice took on an even huskier timbre as he said, “That’s where you’re wrong, Flower. So very wrong.”
With that, he downed the last of his bourbon, placed the glass on the railing, and shocked the hell out of me by leaning down and placing a kiss on my forehead. “And I’ll keep your offer in mind.” Then he turned and headed back into the house, leaving me reeling.

Boudreaux’s Lady by Lauren Smith – a Review

Boudreaux’s Lady by Lauren Smith – a Review

Amazon / B&N /BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Danger makes the heart grow fonder…
Miss Philippa Wilson makes the best of a bad situation. Her lot in life isn’t what she’d choose, but being an upstairs maid for a wealthy baron is better than living on the streets. Little does she know her lackluster days are about to become decidedly more interesting…and dangerous. When a madman wants Philippa dead, it’s going to take more than the plan of her good-hearted employer to save her and find out why she’s being targeted. It’s going to take a hero…or maybe a rogue.
Beauregard Boudreaux is a notorious rogue, living uneventful days and terribly scandalous nights with little thought to settling down. He needs nothing more than a strong drink, a beautiful mistress, and a spirited card game to be happy…When he intervenes to rescue a friend’s upstairs maid from a killer, he’s drawn into a game of cat and mouse with the maid used as bait to draw out the killer. But the more time Beau spends with Philippa as her protector, the more he has an irresistible attraction to this mysterious woman. He also can’t shake the feeling that he’s seen her somewhere before.
But Beau has lost too much in life to risk being hurt again. He can’t let himself fall in love, not even with the temptation Philippa presents to him.
And bloody hell, she is oh-so tempting…

Review:

Boudreaux’s Lady is a historical romance novel. If you are familiar with Lauren Smith’s League of Rogues Series, you will recognize many of the characters in this new novel. This is a wonderfully thrilling novel with mystery, danger, suspense and of course, sizzling romance.

The main characters of the story are Beauregard Boudreaux and Phillipa Wilson (Selkirk).

This novel begins with a prologue set in London in October of 1806. Lady Albina Selkirk, wife of Cornelius Selkirk, the Earl of Monmouth has given birth to twins. A boy and a girl. The first born was a son, but he was stillborn. The girl was born second and healthy. Lord Monmouth was furious that his only son and heir was stillborn. He cursed at his wife as she lay bleeding out, dying. He instructed the midwife, Lucy, to take the girl to the miller’s cottage (the Wilsons) and make a deal to swap her for their son. He would give them much money to start over and he would raise their son as his heir, but they must all keep silent about it, forever. If they would not take his offer, he would kill the girl child.

The story picks up twenty years later at a ball where the Duke of St. Albans watched his grandson, Roderick, dancing.  He spoke to his good friend and almost neighbor Beau Boudreaux. The duke remarked on how the boy did not favor either him or his father, the Earl of Monmouth. But he loved the boy anyway. He was a good man with a kind heart. Beau and the duke were good friends since Beau was a boy and his mother had moved them here after his father had (a marquess) been killed by a firing squad in France, for his political beliefs. Beau thought of the duke as a surrogate father. The duke told Beau was the anniversary of his daughter’s death during childbirth and showed Beau her portrait in his hall. She was the most beautiful woman Beau had ever laid eyes on.

This setup is a little long, but I’m attempting to let you know what the story entails. I am, of course, leaving out the juicy details and conversations. I don’t do spoilers and you wouldn’t want me to spoil this marvelous tale. The author has done a marvelous job of showing the characters and gently letting you get to know them and their motives.

Our second main character, Philippa, is introduced now. She’s a maid in the household of Lord Lennox and his wife Rosalind (League of Rogues). While making up rooms upstairs, she hears someone arrive to see Lord Lennox. It was Lord Monmouth. Something about his voice chilled her and she became curious. Watching from the staircase as he waited, he became aware and looked up. His face paled and he muttered “No, you can’t be… Not here. It’s not possible.” He suddenly rushed up the staircase and grabbed by the throat and began choking her…

And that’s as far as I go with the setup! Except, she first meets Beau when he helps Lennox try to rescue her after Monmouth has someone kidnap her to kill her. Yes, this is an exciting thriller from start to finish. I haven’t given you much of the details that are included…because I don’t want to spoil it. Grab yourself a copy and make sure you have time to read. You won’t want to put this one down! I couldn’t!

Congratulations to author Lauren Smith on a brilliant novel.

WYLDE (Arizona Vengeance #7) by Sawyer Bennett-Review Tour

WYLDE (Arizona Vengeance #7) by Sawyer Bennett-Review Tour

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Google Play

There’s a reason they call me Wylde and it’s not just because it’s my last name.

I might be one of the newest players on the Arizona Vengeance team, but I’m no stranger to the celebrity that goes along with being a professional hockey player. Whether it’s a fan seeking an autograph or a puck bunny looking for more, I’ve grown used to the attention. I not only thrive on it; I use it to my advantage. Let’s just say my bed is rarely empty.

When a quirky redhead at the local bookstore stops me dead in my tracks, I decide to pop in and turn on the trusty Wylde magic. As smart and strong-willed as she is beautiful, Clarke Webber isn’t swayed by my witty banter or charming good looks. And when she realizes who I am and the fame that comes along with it, she likes me even less. Thankfully, I’m always up for a challenge. The more I get to know about her, the more I know my playboy days are behind me.

If I’m going to capture Clarke’s heart, it’s time to be a lot less Wylde, and a lot more Aaron.

•••••••••••

REVIEW:WYLDE is the seventh full-length instalment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult ARIZONA VENGEANCE erotic, hockey romance series focusing on the members of the Arizona Vengeance professional hockey team. This is Arizona Vengeance team member Aaron Wylde, and book store owner Clarke Webber’s story line. WYLDE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Wylde and Clarke) WYLDE follows the building relationship between Arizona Vengeance team member Aaron Wylde, and book store owner Clarke Webber. Aaron Wylde is known as the ‘player’ on the Arizona Vengeance but meeting book store owner Clarke Webber stops our hero in his tracks. Clarke Webber is hiding a secret that threatens any potential future with Aaron Wylde-Clarke doesn’t do relationships especially relationships with celebrities and heroes, and in this Clarke refuses to step back into the public eye. What ensues is the slow building romance and relationship between Clarke and Wylde, and the potential fall-out as the media threatens to destroy any chance at happiness for our leading couple.

Aaron Wylde is Arizona Vengeance’s Tacker Hall’s best friend, and Aaron has watched his friend struggle with demons from the past. Knowing something is fueling Clarke Webber’s refusal to date a celebrity, Aaron bides his time as he slowly seduces the woman with whom he will fall in love. Clarke Webber has been hurt in the past; destroyed by betrayal and the ensuing media frenzy, Clarke refuses to place herself in the direct line of fire but dating a member of the Arizona Vengeance comes with the potential, for just that.

The relationship between Wylde and Clarke is one of immediate attraction but Clarke had no idea as to the who and why of Aaron Wylde. Following Clarke’s quick rejection of our story line hero, Wylde begins a slow seduction that will ultimately end when the media attacks the woman he loves. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including most of the previous story line couples. We are introduced to Clarke’s co-worker and best friend Veronica, players Jett Olsson, Kane Bellan, James Steele, as well as rookies Vance Gather, Trace LaForge, and backup goalie Baden Outlett. Kane’s story is next.

WYLDE is a story of family, friendships, betrayal and revenge. A story of love and laughter, and second chances of a sort for one woman who’s self esteem was destroyed by celebrity and fame. The premise is imaginative and inviting; the romance is flirty and seductive; the characters are spirited and inspiring.
