ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 2, 2020

Jake Callahan. Prince of the popular crowd.

My mortal enemy.

Gorgeous. All the girls want him.

Quarterback. All the boys want to be his friend. He’s the most popular boy in the senior class.

And he hates me.

Or so I thought.

What I mistook for hatred turns out to be…interest. There’s that thin line, right? It makes me crazy. I can’t stand it. Attraction, chemistry, whatever it is, I also can’t resist it.

And neither can he.

Together, we make no sense. The odds are against us. His friends definitely don’t approve. I’m not a part of their crowd. Not one of the cool kids. I don’t fit in, or so they say.

But that doesn’t stop him from falling for me.

And it won’t stop me from fighting for him.

REVIEW: FALLING FOR HER is the second instalment in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, young adult THE CALLAHANS romance series focusing on the Callahan siblings- a spin off from the author’s ONE WEEK GIRLFRIEND series. This is high school students, quarterback Jake Callahan, and Hannah Walsh’s storyline. FALLING FOR HER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from four first person perspectives (Jake, Hannah, Drew, Fable) FALLING FOR HER covers a few weeks in the life of high school students, quarterback Jake Callahan, and Hannah Walsh. Jake Callahan is the all-star quarterback; leader of the popular crowd but a young man struggling with his direction in life. His previous relationship was full of turmoil and angst, and in this Jake wasn’t looking for anyone or anything to tie him down until his friends and fellow football players pushed him in the direction of our story line heroine-Hannah Walsh- a senior student who stuck mostly to herself but became the target of ridicule and bullies as soon as Jake focused his attention on her. What ensues is the building friendship, romance and relationship between Jake and Hannah with the approach of homecoming, and in the face of mockery and taunting from the school’s popular crowd.

The relationship between Jake and Hannah begins as a big of a dare. Jake is hoping that Hannah will wear his football jersey but all Hannah sees is a set up by the ‘in crowd’ to take her down. Jake is persistent in his attempts to persuade Hannah to be his friend regardless of the mockery and teasing he faces from his own teammates and the hatred from his ex-girlfriend. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The animated cast of secondary and supporting characters include Jake’s parents Drew and Fable (One Week Girlfriend series), as well as his sister Ava; fellow teammates and friends Diego, Caleb and Tony; Hannah’s best friend Sophie; Jake’s ex girlfriend Cami, and his arch-rival Eli Bennett.

FALLING FOR HER is a story of bullies and mean girls; family and friendships; love and relationships; the have and the have-nots. The premise is entertaining ; the characters are dynamic, energetic, flawed and real; the romance is sweet, tender and impassioned. FALLING FOR HER is a delightful and frustrating, yet familiar look at the cliques of high school and how they affect everyone they touch.

Hannah settles into the chair closest to mine, a sketchpad in her hands. She flips through it, and I can see page after page of drawings, some of them so realistic I want to tell her to stop so I can really check them out, but I keep quiet. I’m not about to bring attention to myself again. I don’t want to get kicked out of the class.
I freaking need this class.
By the time Sanborne is done talking and telling all of us to try our hand at drawing, I feel like I’m about to burst with my need to talk to Hannah. “You mad at me?”
Her head bent, she’s concentrating on the movements of her pencil across the paper. “What?” she asks distractedly.
“Hannah.” She glances up at me when I say her name, those pretty blue eyes extra wide. “Are you mad at me?”
She frowns. “Why do you think I’m mad at you?”
“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe it’s the way you’ve avoided me since class started,” I tell her. “I was the last person you gave a sketchpad to.”
“Maybe I saved the best for last?” she says weakly.
I don’t smile. I don’t say a word. This usually works for me.
But Hannah’s quiet too. And stubborn. I can tell by the jut of her chin. The way she studies me, her expression blank.
Damn. She’s good.
“Are you only going to talk to me on Snap, but not at school?” I ask, my voice low.
She blinks rapidly, like she can’t believe what I just said. “No.”
“That’s what it seems like.”
A sigh escapes her and she drops her head, refocusing on the sketchpad. “I don’t know how to talk to you.”
“Huh?”
“In person.” She looks up, then immediately looks away. “I’m an idiot.”
A smile starts to curl my lips and I immediately tell myself to stop. “You’re not an idiot.”
“I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings,” she murmurs morosely.
“You’re forgiven.”
She lifts her head when I say that, her plump lips turned upward, and I’m hit with a sudden flash of wanting to kiss her.
Yeah. No. Not going to happen.
“Great, thanks so much,” she returns, then gestures toward my blank sketchpad. “You better get started. She’s going to want to check out your technique.”
“I’ve got the best technique in this school, don’t you know?” I can’t help but say, and Hannah’s cheeks turn pink again.
She’s really cute when she blushes.
“Don’t be a perv,” she says, grabbing my discarded pencil and pointing it toward me. “Start drawing.”
“Do I have to?” I slide my fingers onto hers, my thumb curling around hers before I pluck the pencil from her grip.
“Y-yes. You do.” Her voice is shaky, and I wonder if my touch affected her.
I hope it did. All I have to do is look at her and she affects me.
Whatever’s happening between us is confusing as hell.
“I didn’t listen to a word the teacher said,” I tell Hannah, and she scoots her chair closer to mine, launching into the same lecture Sanborne did, almost word for word.
I listen to the rhythm of Hannah’s speech, the excited way she speaks. She loves art, I can tell, and she genuinely wants to help me. I stare at her mouth, the way it moves, how her front teeth protrude the slightest bit, giving her this sexy overbite. I’m fucking entranced, caught up in her spell and when she finishes lecturing me with the faintest smile on her face, all I can do is smile in return.
“Oh. So you do smile,” she says softly.
I turn it into a frown. “No I don’t.”
She laughs, and I soak up the sound.
It’s just as pretty as I thought it would be.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 1, 2020

Admittedly, my first plan was a little crazy.

I had forty days to execute it. Find a fake fiancé, move in with him, and convince the powers-that-be that we’re madly in love.

Surely this British girl can sweet-talk a few American officials.

Step One: the sexy, wealthy doctor I’ve been chatting up agrees to my plan–with a demand of his own. A baby. An actual ring. A for-real marriage and family. Turns out, there’s someone more bonkers than me.

So Step Two: I now have forty days to convince my fake fiancé that we can’t be real.

Because there’s no such thing as love at first sight–right?

••••••••

REVIEW:FORTY DAY FIANCE is the third instalment in Erin McCarthy’s contemporary, adult, rom-com series focusing on a group of friends in New York. This is former British fashion model and vintage clothing reseller Felicia Hobbs, and physician/widower Dr. Michael Kincaid. FORTY DAY FIANCE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Felicia and Michael) FORTY DAY FIANCE follows the fake fiance relationship between former British fashion model and vintage clothing reseller Felicia Hobbs, and physician/widower Dr. Michael Kincaid. Felicia Hobbs’ latest assignment brings her face to face with Dr. Michael Kincaid, a man whose wife died ten years earlier but a man who is just now clearing out his late wife’s closets. The attraction between Felicia and Michael is immediate as our couple are quick to find themselves falling in bed but Felicia’s happiness soon plummets when she is notified that her visa has expired and she is to be deported back to the UK. With only forty days to make her case, Michael makes Felicia an offer she cannot refuse. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Michael and Felicia, as our couple take their fake engagement public in an effort to learn more about one another and themselves.

Dr. Michael Kincaid wants it all: a wife, a family, and love, and falling for Felicia was easier than he could ever have imagined but all does not go according to plan when Felicia walks away within days of the deportation deadline. Felicia Hobbs does not want to return to the UK but the likelihood of getting her visa renewed is slim to none as our heroine has applied several times to extend her time in America.

The relationship between Felicia and Michael is one of immediate attraction; a palpable sexual chemistry upon which they immediately react but Felicia never expected a proposal from the man with whom she will fall in love. Felicia struggles with issues of trust and in this her attitude was often immature including her decision to run when the going got tough. Misunderstanding and miscommunication including some well intentioned but interfering comments from family and friends pushes at our couple’s future plans. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and sex but saying that I struggled with the heroine’s need to call Michael ‘daddy’ during $ex-one of my romance trope pet peeves.

Felicia’s friends and previous story line couples return as secondary and supporting characters: Grant and Leah (Weekend Wife) and Maddox and Savannah (Five First Dates), and their friend Isla. We are introduced to Michael’s brother Sean, and his mother Gloria.

FORTY DAY FIANCE is a cute story with a flirty and fun couple; a fake fiance / older man, younger woman trope wherein our couple has forty days to find happiness and love with one another. The premise is entertaining; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic and dynamic

“I’ve just confessed to having a crush on you and catfishing you,” Felicia said. “Should I leave?”
“But you really do love Russian authors, British rock, and Australian beaches?”
She nodded. “Yes. And I do hate pickles, self-checkout, and tequila.”
I tried to mentally scroll through all of our conversations and ascribe them to the woman standing in front of me. It wasn’t hard to see that it made more sense than the woman I’d gone to dinner with. The real Savannah. Who had been sweet but not as sharp-witted.
“You, Michael, love true crime novels, British rock as well, and Belize. You hate chewing gum, buffering on the internet, and people who are cruel to animals.” She set her wine down on the quartz countertop. “It was me, I swear, and everything I wrote was the truth.”
I studied her. She looked sincere. I’d really enjoyed talking to her and she clearly remembered our exchanges even though it had been a month back. They’d meant something to her, like they had to me.
“Then I guess you owe me a dinner date with the woman I was actually talking to,” I said. “Because she and I were having a great conversation.”
She tilted her head and gave me a small, but very sexy smile. “Oh, really? I owe you that?”
I nodded. “I think you do.” I came around the island so I could be closer to her. I glanced at her lips. “You told me you have a policy of always kissing on the first date, remember? Just to test chemistry. I’ll be expecting that as well.”
“I see. You drive a hard bargain, sir,” she said. “But I’m prepared to make restitution.”
“Excellent.” She really was gorgeous. She was wearing a red sweater that contrasted with her dark hair and showed off a slim build. I could definitely imagine kissing her and more. “How does Thursday sound?”
Felicia raised her eyebrows. “You don’t waste time.”
“No, I don’t. And I don’t have time for games.” I’d already wasted a decade of my life focusing on my career only.
“Ouch. Duly noted. No more deception, I swear.”
I wanted a relationship again. I wanted to be married, to wake up next to a woman who wanted to share her life with me. Over the years of being single I’d had a few hookups and a couple of women who had wanted a friends-with-benefits scenario and that had been perfect for me at the time. But now I wanted to know a woman inside and out, to love every inch of her, to have the luxury of being able to touch her.
Ironic, really. I wanted everything all at once as usual. It was how I’d been successful in my career. Go for it. Grab what I wanted by the balls.
I reached behind me for my wine. I took a sip and studied her.
Felicia slowly slid her tongue across her bottom lip under the scrutiny. Her eyes darkened. She leaned almost imperceptibly toward me.
She wanted me to kiss her. Not Thursday, but now.
So I did what I always did. I went for it.
I set my glass down and reached out and took her glass from her and set it next to mine. I slid my hand into her dark, straight hair. “You’re a very beautiful woman, Felicia. I’ve enjoyed talking to you, you little catfisher.”
“I’ve enjoyed it as well.”
Her voice was a low murmur, breathy, aroused.
I bent down and covered her lips with mine.

REVIEW: FORTUITY is the third instalment in Jewel E Ann’s contemporary, adult TRANSCEND erotic, slightly paranormal, romance story line This is forty-six year old, professor Nathaniel Hunt, and forty-one year old, Gracelyn Glock’s story line. FORTUITY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for Nathaniel Hunt’s back story.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Nate and Gracelyn) FORTUITY follows the building romance and relationship between forty-six year old, professor Nathaniel Hunt, and forty-one year old, Gracelyn Glock. Gracelyn Glock is a single parent, raising her late brother’s son Gabe after a tragic accident that saw Gracelyn become an instant parent. Refusing to uproot ten year old Gabe, Gracelyn moves to Gabriel’s home town of San Diego where she will meet and fall in love with Professor Nathaniel Hunt. Nate and his ten year old daughter Morgan have rented a beach house for the summer next door to Graceyn and Gabe, before embarking on the final leg of their eight year journey around the world but Nate never expected to fall in love in the final few months, a few months where he will lose his heart to a woman who is unable to continue their journey together. What ensues is the building but tearful romance and relationship between Nate and Gracelyn, and the potential fall out as Nate walks away from the woman he loves leaving a heart broken Gracelyn in the wake.

Gracelyn Glock knows love, and struggles with memories from the past, memories that often keep our heroine from moving forward. Meeting Nathaniel Hunt finds Gracelyn hoping for a future but a future that will have to be put on hold while she raises the son of the brother she has lost. Nathaniel Hunt and his daughter have spent eight years travelling the world but Nathaniel knows it is time to settle down. Having lost the only two women he has ever loved, Nate never expected to find love a third time, a love that is stronger than the other two combined.

The relationship between Nate and Gracelyn is one of immediate attraction, forced together by circumstance and time. Gracelyn knows that their time together is soon to come to a close but Nate is hoping for something more. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate but mostly implied.

We are introduced to Gracelyn’s nephew Gabe, as well as her mother Sharon and father Forest : Nathaniel’s daughter Morgan, and his parents; and Gracelyn and Nathaniel’s landlord Mr. Hans who sees more than everyone else.

FORTUITY is an emotional yet heart warming story of family and responsibility; of letting go and moving forward; of second chances, love and happily ever after. The premise is poignant and impassioned –I may have cried a tear or twenty: the romance is seductive and passionate; the characters are animated and playful. FORTUITY is a wonderfully warm and spirited story of the power of love, acceptance and happily ever afters.

“What took you two so long? Don’t worry, we saved you some cake.” Mr. Hans smiles from his recliner with Hunter on the sofa, her thumbs dancing along her phone screen. Gabe will get along well with her.
“Cake, Morgan?”
My steps falter when I hear Nate’s voice from the kitchen.
Mr. Hans winks at me. “I invited Nate for cake too.”
I nod slowly. “I see. Whose birthday is it?”
“Life is a celebration. Cake needs no excuse.”
So much for having some time to digest what Nate said to me and my flirty reaction to his kiss comment. I put on a neutral face and drag my timid ass into the kitchen.
“Cake, Gracelyn?” Nate glances up from the counter, a knife in one hand and a plate in his other hand.
“Mmm … yes, Gracelyn. You want cake.” Morgan rolls her eyes back in her head as she slowly chews a bite, standing next to Nate.
How am I supposed to look at him when I saw him barely an hour ago and he said he wanted to kiss me, and I returned the desire without the actual kiss? I guess we’re going to be two people who want to kiss but know that it will never happen.
“Thank you.” I take the cake, giving Nate a two-second glance. It’s all I can give him without completely self-combusting into a pile of ashes.
“Mr. Hans … this is so good.” Morgan traipses out of the kitchen.
“It is good. I haven’t had cake in a long time.” I slowly lick the frosting from the fork.
Nate glances at the floor, eyes narrowed, and hunches down. After a few seconds, I move around to his side of the island.
“Did you drop something?”
Hunched like a baseball catcher, gaze still to the floor, he crooks a finger at me.
I set my plate on the counter. “Did you lose a contact lens?” I squat next to him behind the counter.
He lifts his gaze to meet my squinted eyes. The corner of his mouth bends just as his hand slides behind my head and his lips press to mine.
What the hell?
My lungs freeze while my heart pauses and my mind explodes. There’s no tongue to this kiss, just hungry lips. It knocks me off balance, and I fall to my knees, resting my hands on his shoulders.
Nate pulls back half an inch, letting his lips hover next to mine, the warmth of his breath covering my stunned mouth. “I’m not even sorry.” He shrugs.
My mouth opens as if it wants to speak, but I have no idea what to say.
“Dad …”
Nate bolts up, leaving me on my knees. “Yes?”
“Can Hunter use—” Morgan’s eyes narrow at me, my head barely peeking over the counter. “Gracelyn, what are you doing?”
“I’m …” I give her a tight smile.
Nate says, “Picking up a few crumbs.”
At the same time, I say, “Tying your dad’s shoe.”
His explanation is much better.
Morgan laughs. “Um … okay. You’re both acting weird.”
I climb to my feet.
“Can Hunter use what?” Nate asks.
“Your bike so we can go for a bike ride.”
“Are you going to stay around here?”
Morgan nods. “Pinky swear. We won’t go too far.”
“I’ll need to put the seat down for her.”
“Yes! Thanks, Dad. I’ll go tell her.” Morgan runs out of the kitchen.
Nate covers the cake with plastic wrap and nods to my plate with the half-eaten piece of cake. “Are you going to finish that?”
Cake. He wants to talk about the cake?
My head inches side to side.
“Too good to let it go to waste.” He picks up the plate and finishes my cake.
YOU KISSED ME!
“By the way …” His gaze remains on the plate as he scoops up the last bite. “Morgan knows I know how to tie my own shoes.”

REVIEW: STORM is the first instalment in Carian Cole’s contemporary, adult ASHES AND EMBERS erotic, rock romance series focusing on the rock band Ashes and Embers. This is thirty-year old, lead guitarist and motorcycle mechanic Storm Valentine, and twenty-six year old, Evelyn’s story line.

Told from first person point of view (Evelyn) STORM follows the building relationship between thirty-year old, lead guitarist Storm Valentine, and twenty-six year old, Evelyn. On her way to a business presentation, Evelyn finds herself stranded in a freak snowstorm with no rescue in sight. Enter thirty-year old, lead guitarist Storm Valentine, a man she knows nothing about but a man struggling to find some down time on his own. Trapped together in Storm’s car for close to forty-eight hours, Storm and Evelyn’s back and forth, acrimonious introduction has the potential to lead to something more, something stalled by Evelyn’s current relationship to her high-school sweetheart. What ensues is the building but tempestuous relationship between Storm and Evelyn, and the potential fall-out as Evelyn struggles to walk away from a ‘comfortable’ situation.

STORM is a story of attraction and betrayal; family, friendship; and falling in love. The premise is entertaining; the forbidden romance is hot and steamy; the characters are colorful and energetic if you can past Evelyn’s less than acceptable behavior which hindered my enjoyment of the book.

When her best friend gives her a gift certificate to a local tattoo parlor to cheer her up, Ivy gets a helluva lot more when inked-up Lukas Valentine–renowned tattoo artist, violin player extraordinaire, and extreme hopeless romantic–captures her heart.

Lukas is an old soul with a heart of gold. When Ivy walks into his shop, he’s instantly drawn to her shy smile and down to earth personality. Tired of the dating scene, Lukas is ready to settle down, and he’s hell-bent on making Ivy believe they can have the happily ever after they both dream about – with each other.

Despite their age difference, the chemistry and love they share is undeniable. Lukas is everything Ivy never knew she wanted in a man, but can she trust her heart with a much younger man, and can they overcome the hurdles that life keeps throwing in their way?

REVIEW: LUKAS is the third instalment in Carian Cole’s contemporary, adult ASHES AND EMBERS erotic, rock romance series focusing on the rock band Embers and Ashes. This is twenty-four year old violinist and tattoo artist Lukas Valentine, and thirty-six year old, Human Resources manager and mother of two Ivy’s story line. LUKAS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalment is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and history.

NOTE: The time-line for LUKAS crosses over with, and runs parallel with the time lines of books one and two: STORM and VANDAL.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Lukas and Ivy) LUKAS follows the older woman / younger man relationship between twenty four year old violinist and tattoo artist Lukas Valentine, and thirty six year old, single mother/ Human Resources manager Ivy. Ivy is a woman scorned having discovered her husband of eighteen year having an affair with a much young woman. To help her move forward, a friend offers a gift -certificate for a tattoo with a sexy young artist she knows nothing about. Enter Lukas Valentine, tattoo artist and violinist with the rock band Ashes and Embers. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Ivy and Lukas, and the potential fall-out as vengeance and betrayal set our couple up to fall.

LUKAS is a story of betrayal, vengeance, passion and love. The premise is encouraging and captivating; the romance is seductive and intense; the characters are animated, energetic and real. And to keep it consistent, the author adds another twist at the very end.

REVIEW: TALON is the fourth instalment in Carian Cole’s contemporary, adult ASHES AND EMBERS erotic, rock romance series focusing on the rock band Ashes and Embers. This is twenty-six year old, guitarist and music writer Talon Valentine, and twenty-five year old, small business owner Asia’s story line. TALON can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. TALON is a story of family, friendship, struggle and loss. Although the author claims the story is not based on the reality television show similar in context and premise, there are too many similarities not to go unnoticed. The premise is entertaining, engaging and thought provoking; the characters are sassy, sensitive and energetic; the romance is captivating and tragic. TALON is my favorite Ashes and Embers story line, so far. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.

Can the inexperienced nerdy girl tame the notorious player?
Or will he peel back her pages, exposing the wildcat hidden underneath?

••••••••

REVIEW: Blaze begins with Lily Gallo and her father, Mike Gallo, having a conversation at Inked, the family business. Lily, having dropped out of college when she realized being a doctor is not what she wanted, decided to follow in her father’s footsteps at Inked and learn the trade of piercing. She has trained and become quite good at the craft. Lily tells her dad to take the rest of the day off because she can handle whatever comes up. She hears someone enter the shop and is stopped short when she sees that it’s none other than Jett Michaels. Jett is a family friend and he is also a guy who Lily has loved from afar for what seems like her whole life. He was the cool kid in school. She was the nerd who knew she would never be able to exist in Jett’s world.

They are all glad to see Jett, who has just been discharged from the military. When he left, he was a kid finding his own way. What Lily saw walk in was a man who was even hotter than before. They are both shocked to see each other, but what shocks Lily even more is that Jett is there for a piercing……a very intimate one. When Mike learns this, he wants to stay and do it himself, but Lily and the rest of the Gallos persuade him that Lily can handle it. Mike concedes and leaves.

As Lily readies for the procedure, she and Jett visit about what’s been happening in their lives since he left town. She wants to be on her own, away from her parents’ house and he needs a roommate. What Jett hadn’t planned on was asking her to be his roommate. It just sort of happened. Add to that the fact that he has had a crush on Lily too only adds another layer of uncertainty for both of them.

When Lily tells her cousins, Gigi and Tamara, that she did his piercing and that he asked her to be his roommate, the convince her to do it. She wants to but she knows that telling her dad, who needs a bigger word for being overprotective, will be one of her biggest hurdles. The other hurdle being the feelings she’s had for him forever.

Lily and Jett find a house that suits their needs. No, her dad, Mike, is not a happy camper, but her mom, Mia, handles it pretty well. The rest of the Gallo family isn’t happy about it either, but Grandma Gallo handles them all like a pro. After all, what can go wrong?
Blaze is another amazing addition to the series. I loved getting to know these characters! Lily is so sweet and smart and a little naïve, but Gigi and Tamara help in ways that no one else can. Jett is loyal and protective and worldly. When the two of them are in a scene together, the chemistry is off the charts. Perhaps my favorite thing in this one is the literal laugh out loud moments that happen. Lily really doesn’t have much of a filter and the things she says, and thinks, are hysterical. She is self-deprecating and truly has no idea how into her Jett actually is, nor how beautiful she is. It takes a little while for her to come around and see Jett for more than being the womanizer he has been most of his life, but when the two of them connect? Jesus lord………… The scenes go from being funny and sweet to being downright scorching. Of course, we get to see most of the Gallos in this one, which is always a plus. If you’re not reading Chelle Bliss, you are sorely missing out on one of the best created worlds I’ve had the privilege of reading in a very long time. Well done, Chelle Bliss! Very, very, very well done!!!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 2, 2020

A cowboy is in over his head in this contemporary Western from New York Times bestselling author Jessica Clare.

Single father Henry “Hank” Watson is a fresh transplant from Alaska to Painted Barrel, Wyoming. He doesn’t want anything more from life than to put in a good day’s work, then go home to his daughter, Libby. But when Libby needs some emergency work done on her curls thanks to a gum incident, Hank’s out of his depth. He takes his daughter into town where he meets Becca, the local salon owner.

Becca’s still nursing a broken heart after her ex dangled marriage in front of her, then bailed a few days before the wedding. She’s done with men…or so she thinks. When she meets Hank and his little girl, she realizes that they need her help with more than just hair. It’s clear they both need a woman in their lives.

Everyone in town thinks Hank is too gruff for someone as sweet as Becca. But what they don’t realize is that he makes Becca feel loved. She can see a future with him and his adorable daughter…if they don’t move back to Alaska.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: THE COWBOY MEETS HIS MATCH is the fourth instalment in Jessica Clare’s contemporary, adult THE WYOMING COWBOY erotic, romance series. This is rancher and single father Henry ‘Hank’ Watson, and salon owner/stylist Becca Loftis’ story line. THE COWBOY MEETS HIS MATCH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Becca and Hank) THE COWBOY MEETS HIS MATCH focuses on the building relationship between rancher and single father Henry ‘Hank’ Watson, and salon owner/stylist Becca Loftis. Two years earlier, Becca Loftis was dumped by her boyfriend fiancé of ten years, and in this she became and still is the fodder for gossip and pity in Painted Barrel, Wyoming. Wanting love and to be loved, Becca resigns herself to a life alone until rancher and single father Hank Watson walks into her salon with his four year old daughter Libby, and a ‘hair gum’ emergency he isn’t equipped to handle. Pulling up her big girl panties, Becca approaches Hank about going out together, only to be shot down in the process. Months will pass before Hank finds his ‘balls’ and asks out our heroine out in return. What ensues is the slow building relationship and romance between Becca and Hank, and the potential fall-out as Hank’s time in Painted Barrel, Wyoming comes to a close.

Hank, and his brothers Caleb and Jack live in Alaska but found themselves working for their uncle Ennis with the approach of calfing season. Hank, a quiet and grumpy alpha male, with no time or desire for a relationship, can’t stop thinking about Becaa Loftis but struggles with his need to keep his daughter his number one priority. Not only does Hank want Becca in his life but his daughter Libby has fallen in love with the woman who calls to our hero’s heart but once again, Hank battles between head and heart keeping Libby his number one priority. When things begin to spiral out of control, Hank announces his return to Alaska, forcing Becca to walk away from the man that she loves.

The relationship between Becca and Hank is slow to develop. Becca is aware that Hank has no plans to stay in Wyoming, and in this, Becca decides their relationship should remain casual but casual is something Hank does not want to do. Hank, comes off rude and boorish, and struggles with issues of trust having been betrayed by a woman from his past; Becca is willing to give love another chance but finds herself walking away to protect her heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include many of the locals. We are introduced to Hank’s brother Caleb and Jack, his daughter Libby, and the uncle Dr. Ennis Watson. The return of mayor Sage Cooper Clements (A Cowboy Under the Mistletoe #3) who has a bit of history with Becca and Becca’s former fiancé Greg, finds Becca looking forward while still looking back.

THE COWBOY MEETS HIS MATCH is a story of betrayal and acceptance; loss and love; moving forward and never looking back. The premise is inviting; the characters are colorful and captivating; the romance is seductive but struggles in the face of miscommunication, Hank’s lack of experience, and Becca’s desire to be loved.

The doorbell rang, jarring her out of her thoughts, and she peeked through the curtains at the man on the porch.
Her heart fluttered again.
Okay, she was attracted to him. Even if she tried to convince herself otherwise, one look at Hank sent Becca’s pulse to hammering. He was everything she said she wasn’t attracted to—tall, rough, hairy—but, damn, he really did something to her. She gazed at the broad spread of his shoulders in the plain, dark button-down shirt. He practically bulged out of it. He wore jeans that showed off a rather tight butt, and his legs were long and strong and just . . . gosh. What would it be like to be kissed by someone like him instead of slender Greg?
Her mouth went dry at the thought.
Hank scowled at the porch and then rang the doorbell again.
Oh. Right. Here she was staring at him through the window instead of answering the door. Becca smoothed her artfully loose chignon, took a deep breath, and then opened the door. “Hey, Hank.”
The big cowboy said nothing, just looked her up and down. It made her nervous . . . but it also made her squirm in a lot of good ways. “Is this okay?” she asked, gesturing at her dress. It was pale pink and sleeveless, above the knee, and it toed the line between cute and flirty and too summery.
He dragged his gaze away from her legs, paused at her boobs, and then clenched his jaw and gazed up at her face. “What?”
That was flattering. Becca found herself smiling. “Is this okay for where we’re going?”
He grunted.
Becca resisted the urge to smack him in the stomach to get an answer out of him. A grunt was not a damned answer. “Where are we going?”
Hank gazed down at her, and she noticed his cheeks were slightly flushed and he was sweating. Was he nervous, too? If so, that was cute. To think she made a man this intimidating-looking anxious. It made her feel a bit more like a femme fatale—something she’d never been. Becca was always the sweet one, the cute one, the dependable one. Never the vixen.
Tonight, she kinda wanted to get her flirt on and see where it would take her.
“Dinner.”
She gazed up at him. “I know that. I mean . . . where?”
“Steak.”
Now she was the one clenching her jaw. The man was impossible. Was this how the entire dinner was going to go? Nervous or not, he had to talk to her.
Didn’t he?
But it was a silent ride in his truck as he drove them two towns over. They stopped at a familiar steak house, one that she’d seen and heard about but that Greg had never taken her to. By that time in their relationship, they’d been together for so long that dates pretty much just involved getting together and having sex . . . and then she’d clean his apartment and cook for him. Yeah, she was an idiot.
She was doubly an idiot because she was thinking about her ex again while on her first date with a non-Greg man.
Hank pulled the truck up to the restaurant, and before she could get out of the cab, he was dashing around the far side to get her door. He’d done that back at her house, too, but she’d been too distracted to notice. She appreciated it now, though, and beamed at him. “Thank you, Hank.”
He gave her a jerky nod, wiped his hands on his jeans, and then went to get the door to the restaurant. He wasn’t holding her hand or touching her, but it was still a thoughtful gesture. Her heels clacked on the sidewalk as she approached the front door, and as she did, she passed what must have been twenty motorcycles all piled into a row of parking spaces. Was this a biker joint? She suddenly felt very out of place in her pink dress and tall heels. But then Hank was right there, looming over her as he held the front door open, and she suddenly felt safe again.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 26, 2020

Prince of the Underworld and Lord of Earth, Marek was banished from his home by his father, Hades, two centuries ago and given a new duty and purpose—to keep our world and his from colliding in a calamity foreseen by the Moirai. Together with his six brothers, he fights to defend the gates to the Underworld from daemons bent on breaching them and gaining entrance to that forbidden land, striving to protect his home from their dark influence.

Haunted by a betrayal that shattered him and set him on a dark path of vengeance, Marek closely guards his heart, as determined to keep it safe as he is to wipe the scourge of vampires from the world.

Until a hunt lands him in the presence of a beautiful woman who threatens to steal that heart as she battles his sworn enemy, her graceful moves igniting a passion so fierce and hunger so deep it consumes him.

She knows deep in her heart the warrior can help her save her brother, but can she trust a man who is driven to slay every vampire he meets?

When Marek’s enemy emerges from the shadows, and Caterina is pulled down a dark rabbit hole into a dangerous world, will they be strong enough to overcome their pride and their prejudices or will a dark turn of events shatter both their hearts?

•••••••••

Sandy’s REVIEW:MAREK is the fourth instalment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult GUARDIANS OF HADES erotic, paranormal/fantasy romance series very loosely based in Greek mythology, focusing on seven brothers- the sons of Hades and Persephone -sent to Earth to guard the gates to the Underworld. This is Prince of the Underworld and Lord of Earth Marek, and vampire hunter / human Caterina’s story line. MAREK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as the brothers struggle against an unknown enemy to keep the human world and the Underworld from colliding.

NOTE: The Guardians of Hades series is Felicity Heaton’s interpretation of, and does not follow, the actual Greek mythological family tree or events.

Told from several third person perspectives including Marek and Caterina MAREK follows the building relationship between Prince of the Underworld and Lord of Earth Marek, and vampire hunter / human Caterina. Approximately ten years earlier Caterina’s brother Guillem was attacked, and Caterina is desperate to find a cure to prevent her brother from becoming a vampire but ten years of hunting and killing vampires, and her brother remains a shell of his former self, slowly succumbing to whatever disease is slowly eating away at his body. Caterina isn’t the only hunter in Barcelona destroying the hundreds of nests of vampires in her city, and in this Caterina struggles with her attraction to the warrior who may or may not be human himself. Enter Prince of the Underworld and Lord of Earth Marek, the man/the god with whom Caterina will fall in love but all does not go well for our story line couple when Caterina is targeted, and finds herself doing the bidding of someone who promises to fix what ails her dying brother, a bidding that will cost Caterina her humanity. What ensues is the slow building relationship between Caterina and Marek, and the potential fall-out as Caterina becomes the puppet of a powerful enemy, threatening to destroy Marek to take control of the Gates to the Underworld.

Marek despises the vampire with every fibre of his being having been betrayed by one in his past. Alone in his quest to take down the vampires, Marek battles between head and heart when he discovers another ‘warrior’ as desperate as he to kill the vampires that broke his heart but protecting the Gates to the Underworld comes at a cost, as Marek and his brothers find themselves in a constant battle with the numerous daemons that are constantly coming through the portals of H*ll.

Caterina is determined to destroy every vampire in existence believing one of the vampires is her brother’s maker but the more vampires Caterina kills, her brother becomes weaker with no sign of recovery. Meeting Marek, a man who claims not to be human, finds Caterina working together in an effort to rid the city of her brother’s ‘killer’ but working together means their mutual attraction grows with every encounter.

The relationship between Caterina and Marek is slow to build. Marek is at the command of his father, as well as the summons of the gate he continues to guard but someone or something is trying to gain access to the Underworld, using both Caterina and Marek in their endeavour, placing Caterina in the direct line of fire when Marek’s enemies forces Caterina to turn on the man with whom she is falling in love. The $ex scenes are passionate and intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, all of Marek’s brothers including Ares and his mate Megan (ARES #1), Valen and his mate Eva (VALEN #2), Esher and Aiko (ESHER #30) Daimon, eldest brother Keras, , and baby brother Calistos play secondary and supporting roles; their mother Persephone, and their father Hades, as well as a number of daemons, shape-shifters, and wraiths. We are introduced to Caterina’s brother Guillem, who finally succumbs to the powers slowly taking over his body.

MAREK is an action packed, ensemble story line wherein the reader is privileged to the internal dialogue, introspection and thoughts of the leading characters. Marek is compelled to kill the vampires he blames for betrayal; Caterina is hoping to cure the brother she so desperately loves. The premise is engaging, energetic and captivating; the characters are colorful, dynamic and spirited; the romance is seductive and steamy.

•••••••••••••

Julie’s Review: Marek the Guardian of the gate In Seville and the “earth” element is book 4.

Marek is on a mission, to seek out and destroy all and any vampires he comes across.

Betrayed by a lover, he slaughtered her nest and now he’s on a mission to wipe them all out!!

Caterina is looking for a cure for her beloved brother.

Bitten by a vampire, he’s slowly dying, he hasn’t got much longer, so if she can find his “sire”, then Caterina hopes he will become human again.

Looking for vampire nests in Barcelona she hopes to come across the vampire and kill it, before it kills her brother!!

Coming across Caterina was a surprise, and before he knows what’s hit him, he has a partner to back him up on the hunt. But what will he do when he finds out her secret? Will he help or will he end her brother’s life?

Caterina wasn’t expecting to find out that not only do vampires exist, but other monsters and gods roam this earth too. Can she trust Marek with her brothers secret, or will she walk away to protect him?

This book was a total surprise, I wasn’t sure of Marek’s background story. We know something dark happens in his past, but being betrayed by a vampire lover, wasn’t one of them. And it has to be a big betrayal as he’s bent on taking them all out, and he’s not suppose to!! (Vampires are permitted to go to and from the underworld)

He’s also in the middle of his brother’s “love life” and he hates that his brother Keras doesn’t speak to him unless he has to! (The story between Keras and the goddess of war looks to be a long standing one, and will I’m sure the story will be a good one)

Have to admit I was a little taken aback with how quick the main characters fell for each other (considering how in love he was previously!) but what he feels for Caterina is completely different from what he felt with Airlea.

Liked how the storyline is different from the rest (in fact all the stories are different)

It’s great that we get a little more information with each story that’s told. The ongoing war with the unseen forces that want control of both the underworld and this one.

And the surprises just kept coming in this one…..

As all the books in this series, it’s really well written, fast paced, loaded with fight scenes and twists.

We interact with all the brothers and the women in their lives.

We laugh along with the funny moments. And I wanted to shake them too!! And a few moments had me reaching for the tissues!!

The series is coming to an end soon ?and that’s sad! But I’m looking forward to reading the next brother.

It’s going to be epic!

Julie ?

He had never been one for believing in signs, but as Marek watched the skull made of bubbles slide down the glass shower screen, a bad feeling stirred deep in his gut.
He finished scrubbing the suds from his hair and slicked it back, running both hands over his head as his eyes strayed back to the skull now stretching and deforming into something resembling Edvard Munch’s painting The Scream.
It meant nothing. Omens weren’t real.
If the bad feeling came from anywhere, it was because things had gone too quiet since the wraith had broken into the Tokyo mansion and rescued the shapeshifter female he and his brothers had managed to capture. It had looked as if she was going to be a valuable source of information, that Esher could break her down and convince her to talk if he had enough time.
Marek and his six brothers had held her in their grasp for only a few hours before the wraith had used the memories he had stolen from Esher to penetrate the barrier around the mansion and had whisked her away through a portal.
Now, they were back to square one. They had an enemy and they had no clue how many were in their ranks or what they planned to do next. All they knew was that this band of daemons wanted to destroy the gates he and his brothers protected between the mortal world and their home, the Underworld, to merge the two realms into one they would control.
Keras was still annoyed about the fact they had lost their only source of information, as well as other things.
Marek couldn’t remember the last time his oldest brother had said more than two words to him. At every meeting Marek attended, Keras spoke to the others about their reports and what he wanted them to do next, but when it came to Marek, all Keras dished out was the cold shoulder.
Marek cursed Enyo under his breath, not foolish enough to do it aloud in case the damned goddess of war was able to hear him. It was time she overcame whatever it was that stopped her from facing facts and his brother, before she ended up getting Marek killed. The next time she showed up on Marek’s doorstep, she was getting the cold shoulder treatment.
Or he would damn well teleport to wherever Keras was so she was forced to see his brother again.
It was about time they both faced their feelings.
Keras was as in denial as Enyo was.
The skull continued to mock him. Marek swiped the side of his left hand across the glass, obliterating it, and shut off the water. He didn’t believe in signs.
He made his own destiny.
The Moirai could tell him the future all they wanted, but what good were the seers when they couldn’t tell him the details? He and his brothers had been stuck in the mortal world for two hundred years thanks to the fates and their sketchy facts. Their father, Hades, had banished them from the Underworld to protect the gates and await the attack the fates had foreseen, believing it would motivate them and give them reason to focus all of their effort on their mission so they could return home.
Two centuries of waiting and the enemy had finally made themselves known.
War was coming.
Marek couldn’t wait.
His gut swirled with a dark hunger, one that had been steadily building over the last two weeks and pressed him to obey it. He flexed his fingers as his thoughts trod a dark path, feeding that hunger with images of beautiful carnage, of walls painted crimson, and blood rolling down his body as he stood amidst the aftermath of a battle.
The image wasn’t one he had witnessed, but one that was to come. Marek could tell the future too in his own way. He could predict the result of a hunt—because he always won. Nothing stood between him and the high of victory, not when he was hunting. His blood burned with need as his hunger got the better of him, and he stepped out of the shower, unable to deny it any longer.
Tonight.
He would make that vision real tonight.
He dried off and scrubbed a towel against his dark hair, mussing the waves into curls as he stared at himself in the mirror. He wasn’t surprised to find his normally brown eyes were black with the dark need to hunt, revealing the depth of his hunger.
He tried to keep his mind on other things as he tugged on his trunks and then his black combat trousers, and pulled on a tight black T-shirt, but his focus kept slipping, filling his head with pleasing images of fighting that roused another need in his veins, a trickle of pleasure that warmed him. His eyes slid shut as anticipation built, the thought of what was to come making him want to rush.
As always.
He clenched his fists, savoured the sting of his nails biting into his palms, and tamped down the urges, clawing back control. He would have his high soon enough. It was better he remained focused during the fight. Afterwards, when the twelve vermin he had been tracking for the last two weeks were little more than fizzing piles of flesh and bone, he could indulge himself and enjoy the bliss and satisfaction that came from killing them.
Vampires.
His father, Hades, would be angry with him if he discovered Marek’s need to slay vampires, a species his father viewed as allies. His brothers would probably be just as furious. Knowing that didn’t stop him. It couldn’t stop him.
The vampires needed to pay.
He had tried to deny the hunger to kill them, and it hadn’t ended well. The compulsion was strong, so powerful that it had driven him into his darker side—a side that came from Hades’s blood in his veins—and he had lost all control, becoming a slave to it.
His second-eldest brother, Ares, had found him a week later, caked with blood and grime. Apparently, he had located him by following the trail of carnage Marek had left in his wake. By his brother’s estimate, close to a thousand daemons had lost their lives to Marek’s blade, and on top of that he had slaughtered five Hellspawn.
Hellspawn were what he and his brothers called the daemon breeds that Hades deemed acceptable, ones who still served him and were allowed to travel freely between the mortal world and the Underworld.
Hades had forgiven him for killing them.
He doubted his father would forgive him if he became aware of the thousands of vampires he had slaughtered since then.
All of them in cold blood while fully aware of what he was doing.
Marek stalked into his bedroom, the terracotta tiles cool beneath his feet despite the thick heat of summer. Insects buzzed and chirruped outside, their song a soothing melody as he breathed deeply to focus, centring himself as he prepared for battle.
He felt the earth deep beneath him, sensed it surrounding him, and he closed his eyes as he allowed his connection to it to calm him further, and push out the frantic need building within him. Patience.
There were a dozen vampires in that nest in Barcelona, and he was going to butcher every single one of them.
Nothing was going to stop that from happening tonight.
He rounded his oak double bed that stood against the wall opposite the bathroom and opened a drawer on the side table to its right.
His dark gaze landed on the one thing it contained and the hunger roared back to life inside him.
He swallowed and reached into the drawer, his eyes slipping shut and pleasure rolling in on the wake of his hunger as his fingers made contact with the leather hilt of the blade. It was smooth beneath his touch, worn from centuries of use. He bit back a groan as he curled his fingers around it and lifted the blade, felt the delicious weight of it in his palm. He opened his eyes and looked down at it, shivered as he drew the curved knife from its sheath and the silver blade caught the low lights, reflecting them up at him.
The beauty of it hit him hard in the way it always did, had him transfixed as he took in every nick in the razor-sharp blade and recounted all the vampires he had killed with it, using the silver it contained to send them to their final deaths.
The need to hunt condensed inside him, boiled and raged, pushed at him until he surrendered to it. He swiftly sheathed the blade and jammed it into the waist of his fatigues, and focusing on his destination, he summoned his ability to teleport.
Darkness whirled around him, consumed him as he took a single step forwards. Familiar sensation washed through him, his connection to the Underworld lasting only a heartbeat before he emerged from the teleport. It was comforting nonetheless, and the closest he had been to home in two hundred years.
He landed in a cobbled alley surrounded by old cream stone buildings. The air was thicker here in Barcelona than in Seville, heavy with moisture that made it hard to breathe as the stifling heat bore down on him. He gave himself a moment to adjust to the summer temperatures, and then silently moved along the alley, using the shadows as cover as he stealthily approached the arched entrance of the vampire nest.
His senses sharpened as he focused them ahead of him, eager to count the number of foes awaiting him.
Only it wasn’t twelve signatures that popped up on his internal radar.
It was only five.
Marek cursed and moved faster, drawing his blade from its sheath at the same time. He could still eliminate these five, taking the edge off his hunger, and then he would wait for the rest to return. He reached the entrance of the building and stopped dead as the scent of spilled vampire blood hit him together with a feminine grunt and a hiss.
There hadn’t been any females among the vampires.
Was it a vampire?
Or a victim?
He eased the heavy wooden doors open and slipped inside. His eyes rapidly adjusted to the darkness that clung to the ground floor of the building, revealing the courtyard.
And a woman.
She stood in the centre of the courtyard, the low lights reflecting off her caramel-coloured hair as it tumbled around her shoulder, shifting in waves as she turned her head left and then right, eyeing the four male vampires moving to flank her. If it hadn’t been for the fact that she was facing off against the vampires, he would have thought her one of them with her tight dark clothing. She matched their style perfectly, calf-height black leather boots showing over her tight navy jeans and a form-fitting black tank revealing her toned figure.
A thin cut slashed up her left arm, a crimson trail from it reaching her elbow.
Darkness stirred inside him as she took in the vampires, her wide luminous hazel eyes bright with what looked a lot like fear.
A startling new urge blasted through Marek in response.
A need to protect her.
The dark-haired vampire facing her licked his fangs.
Not on Marek’s watch.
Darkness rushed through him, sweet and addictive, dangerously seductive as it subdued his softer emotions, leaving only raw rage and a black hunger for violence behind. His nails sharpened into claws, canines lengthening to match those the vampire was flashing at the woman.
His would-be victim.
Marek leaned his weight forwards and readied his blade, his gaze locking onto the male; mind racing to calculate everything about him, from his weight and height, to which foot he favoured and any possible weapons he had concealed on his body.
Satisfied that the vampire wouldn’t stand a chance, Marek pressed down on his right foot, intending to launch at the male.
Only the woman picked that moment to yell a battle cry and spin on her heel, a silver blur shining around her as she gracefully pirouetted.
And stabbed the vampire nearest Marek right through his heart with a short sword.
Marek rocked back on his heels.
She wasn’t a victim.
She was a warrior.
Breathtaking as she ducked beneath the blow from the blond male behind her and lashed out with her leg in a fluid sweep that looked as if she had performed it a thousand times. She caught the male’s ankles, toppling him, and spun back up to her full height as she brought her blade around.
It sliced clean through the throat of the vampire she had stabbed, cleaving his head from his body as he frantically clutched at the bubbling wound in his chest. The vampire slumped to land by what appeared to be the fizzing remains of another vampire, giving Marek a better view of the warrior as she took on the remaining three.
Part of Marek growled at him to intervene, to protect her as he had intended.
The rest of him was struck dumb by how gracefully she moved as she twisted and turned, blocked and attacked, undeterred by the way the vampires evaded her blows.
He had never seen anything like her.
It wasn’t fear that flashed in her hazel eyes as she spun on her heel and jammed her blade into the gut of the blond vampire. It was excitement. Pleasure. The same thrill he felt as he watched her.
Who was she?
The hunger that had gone dormant inside him the moment he had set eyes on her returned with a vengeance, snarling a black demand in his head as he watched her fighting the vampires.
Fighting his vampires.
It didn’t matter who she was. She was intruding on his battle, had ruined his plans for the night. These vermin were his to kill.
The woman slashed her blade across the leg of the blond vampire, cutting deep into his thigh through his black jeans, delivering another deadly blow of silver judging by how the vampire she had managed to kill was slowly melting away to nothing.
She leaned over and grasped the male by his hair, stared into his eyes as the silver consumed him, tearing pained hisses from between his clenched teeth as he convulsed.
Her first mistake.
A fatal one.
She had taken her eyes off the remaining two.
The tall dark-haired male grabbed her from behind, fisted her fall of caramel hair and pulled her head back, ripping a pained cry from her lips.
The vampire’s eyes blazed red as he bent his head to pierce her delicate neck with his filthy fangs.
Marek growled from the shadows, the feral snarl pealing from him before he could contain it as the need to protect her roared back to the fore, stealing control of him again.
The woman tensed.
The vampires froze.
Their glowing scarlet eyes edged towards him.
Marek launched at them on a roar.

REVIEW:VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCE by Freya Barker is a contemporary, adult, erotic, story line- a part of the multi-authored CELL BLOCK C romance series. This is auto mechanic/former inmate Gray Bennet, and bookkeeper/diner waitress Robin Bishop’s story line. VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty-the stories are not connected.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Gray and Robin) VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCE follows the building relationship between auto mechanic/former inmate Gray Bennet, and bookkeeper/diner waitress Robin Bishop. It’s been eighteen years since Gray Bennet was a free man but he never expected to catch the eye of a beautiful woman at the 9/11 monument, where he was paying his respects to the sister he lost. Heading home to Beaverton, Michigan to start a new life working for a friend at the local garage, Gray will come face to face with his fantasies, the woman he met in New York, the woman with whom Gray will fall in love. Enter Robin Bishop-bookkeeper and waitress at the local diner. What ensues is the building but trepidatious relationship between Gray and Robin, and the potential fall-out as Gray struggles with demons from his past, and the inability to trust himself around the woman he loves.

Robin Bishop has been a single mom for close to eighteen years and meeting Gray Bennet stirred something deep within our story line heroine. Robin had no idea that Gray had served time but our heroine accepted Gray for who he is, not what he had done but all is not well in the town of Beaverton, and Robin and Gray find themselves caught in the middle between warring forces.

The relationship between Gray and Robin is one of immediate attraction but Gray was in no position to start an affair without first getting his life in order. A job, a place to stay, and re-establishing himself in a town that may or may not have forgiven him for sins of the past found Gray pushing Robin out of his life at every opportunity. It will take a patient woman to understand the demons that threaten to engulf out story line hero, demons that become real with his return to town. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Robin’s mother, as well as her daughter Paige; diner owner Kim, Jason the cook; Frank Hanson, owner of the Dirty Dog, garage owner Jimmy Olson, and several townies who come in and out of the diner.

VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCE is a story of abuse, betrayal, retribution and control. A story of love and acceptance; of understanding and moving forward. The character driven premise is real, raw and engaging; the romance is provocative and tender; the characters are edgy, wounded and spirited.
