“Don’t stop.” She reached for my belt again, this time completely undoing it, the button of my pants, and my zipper at world-record speed.
Her phone buzzed. Then it chimed. Then it buzzed and chimed two more times. Then it rang again. Reba.
Cursing, Jenn pulled the phone from her pocket, once again her face illuminated, murderous rage in her eyes. Her finger moved to the power off button. She blinked, hesitating. Her eyes widened, her body stiffened, and she gasped.
“Cletus!”
Something about her tone, like she was horrified, and maybe a little afraid, cut through the heavy haze of lust inertia, and my hands stilled. Shaking myself, it took me a few moments to realize she was showing me the phone screen, and another few to bring the content of the text messages into focus.Momma: Jennifer Anne Sylvester, pick up your phone. If you’re with Cletus, I need his help. Please.
Momma: ALL THE CHICKENS AND ROOSTERS ARE DEAD! PICK UP YOUR DAMN PHONE!
Momma: I’m calling you in a second, pick up the phone. Mr. Badcock’s chickens are dead. All of them. I got here and he’s running around, deranged, yelling about his dead chickens! I called the police and they’re on their way. Please, please, please pick up the phone! At some point, I must’ve taken the phone from Jenn and stepped away, because I glanced up upon reading the messages for the third time, finding the phone in my hand and Jenn fixing her skirt.
“This is nuts.” Her big eyes searched mine imploringly. “Who could have done this?”
I shook my head, having not yet managed to fully shift head gears—you know, from that head to the one on my neck—and my gaze dropped to the wet patch on the front of her dress just visible in the swath of light. My erection throbbed.
So we’re . . . not having sex?
“Why? Why would they do it? And WHO?” She snatched her phone back, her tone bewildered, distracted, and distraught. She was distraught because of the dead chickens, like any normal person would be.
I was distraught also, but my distress had nothing to do with farm animals.
“We have to go.” Jenn grabbed my hand and began walking toward the direction of the hall. Meanwhile, it took me until her hand found the door handle to realize my zipper and belt were still undone.
“This is crazy.” She paused as I zipped up, her tone halting and distracted. “Poor Mr. Badcock. And those poor chickens.” A sound of distress escaped her throat. “This is terrible.”
It was terrible.
And I was going to hell.
Because all I could think was, Talk about a cock block.

Told from several third person perspectives including Tate and Nina LETHAL EDGE follows the building romance and relationship between college professor Dr. Nina Gomez, and Detective Tate Baldwin. A car accident would bring Nina Gomez face to face with Detective Tate Baldwin, having no idea that Tate is her new roommates partner at work. An attack at a local bar involving two students, finds Nina struggling with memories of the past when one of the victims is found assaulted and dead. As Nina battles with what happened, the killer, once again, sets his sights on Nina, in an effort to finish the job he had been unable to complete. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Nina and Tate, and the potential fall out as Nina is targeted in an effort to silence our heroine against what happened in the past.

Detective Tate Baldwin is a US army soldier, is hoping to start up a ranch and training facility, with two of his former buddies, geared toward private security but in the mean time Tate finds himself on the search for a killer who is targeting women at the University of Montana. The relationship between Tate and Nina is one of immediate attraction that began with an accident that would pull our couple together when they quick discover that Nina is Tate’s work partner Avery’s new roommate. Believing himself not worthy of his own happily ever after Tate reveals he is no romantic but acts on instinct where Nina is involved. The $ex scenes are passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 28, 2020

Chloe Lake is finally living her dream. As the daughter of the Governor, she’s consistently in the spotlight, and after being dubbed the Most Eligible Bachelorette of NYC, both her career and personal life has exploded. Fortunately, her work as an advocate for animal welfare requires constant publicity and funding, so she embraces her role and plays for the camera—anything for the sake of her beloved rescues.

But when a big case is on the line, she’s faced with the one obstacle she never counted on: the boy who broke her heart is back, and in order to gain justice, they need to work together.

Chloe swears she can handle it until old feelings resurface, and she’s faced with a heartbreaking choice.

Will this time end differently—or are they destined to be only each other’s first love—instead of forever?

Owen Salt fell hard for Chloe when he was a screwed-up kid in college, and spent the next years changing himself into the man his grandfather believed he was capable of. But when his career led him across the country, he knew he needed to leave the woman he loved behind. He’s never forgotten her, but as the new darling of the press, now, she’s way out of his league. When work brings him back to fight for justice by her side, he swears he can handle it.

But he’s never really gotten over his first love—and he wants one more opportunity to prove he’s a man who’s worthy.

Can Owen convince the woman who holds his heart to take a second chance on forever—or is it too late for them both?

Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series.

•••••••••

REVIEW:BEGIN AGAIN by Jennifer Probst is a contemporary, adult romance storyline set in the author’s STAY series, and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is attorney Owen Salt, and advocate for animal welfare Chloe Lake’s story line. BEGIN AGAIN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Chloe’s story begins in book one THE START OF SOMETHING GOOD.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Chloe and Owen) BEGIN AGAIN follows the second chance romance between twenty six year old attorney Owen Salt, and twenty-eight year old animal advocate Chloe Lake. Approximately seven years earlier, Owen Salt walked away from the woman he loved in an effort become the best man he could possibly be but in doing so Owen destroyed our heroine’s heart. Fast forward to present day wherein Owen returns to New York, as the new lawyer for Chloe’s animal rights group, a position that forces Chloe to work side by side with the man that cause her so much heart ache and pain. With another suitor hoping to make Chloe is own happily ever after, Owen must step up his game if he is going to prove to Chloe that he is a changed and better man. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Owen and Chloe as Owen must prove he is worthy of Chloe’s love.

Owen and Chloe met years before as both were serving mandatory community service at a local animal rehab farm. Owen immediately fell in love with our story line heroine but their two year age difference and Owen’s less than stellar (prior) behavior forced Owen to reconsider his direction in life, and in doing so meant Owen would have to leave a heart broken Chloe behind. Chloe Lake never completely recovered from Owen’s rejection, and his return to New York brought with it too many memories of a time long ago but Chloe was willing to give Owen another chance if only to prove he was a worthy adversary and advocate for the animals she so dearly loved.

The relationship between Chloe and Owen is a rekindling romance; a second chance relationship between two people whose lives went in opposite directions when Owen walked out of Chloe’s life in search for something ‘more’. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

Several of the previous story line characters and couples play secondary and supporting characters including the return of Hei-Hei, the giant Polish chicken, and Chloe’s now governor father Jonathan Lake and his new wife Alyssa (Something Just Like This 3.5).

BEGIN AGAIN is a sweet yet spicy story of second chances. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the romance is captivating; the characters are familiar, dynamic, stubborn and fun.

He cut the engine. Leaned in. Her hand drifted up to hesitantly touch his face, smooth and stubble free, his square cut jaw straight, full lips, and cut cheekbones straight from a superhero comic. “You’re very handsome,” she whispered.
He chuckled. “Thank you. But you are a work of art.” He stroked her hair. “And it’s officially our fifth date. Would you invite me up?”
Tension stiffened her muscles. She wasn’t ready to sleep with him yet. There was something sacred about inviting a man into her bed. When she was young and reckless, she’d made a bunch of bad choices, sleeping with bad boys to prove nothing could hurt her, and it only made a bigger mess in her head. Now she accepted her need to go slow and refused to apologize for it. “I don’t think tonight is a good idea,” she said.
He nodded, taking the rejection with his normal ease. “Got it. Then I’ll just have to show you how you make me feel right here.”
He lowered his head and kissed her.
Chloe responded immediately, allowing her mouth to soften under his, her hands gripping his broad shoulders. He smelled of expensive cologne, a musky, ocean scent that should have driven her crazy. He knew what he was doing, expertly applying the perfect amount of pressure, slowly sliding his tongue with subtle precision, allowing her to warm up. Her body responded like a fine-tuned machine and she sank into the kiss, deliberately shutting her mind down to enjoy the moment.
When he finally lifted his head, satisfaction gleamed in his eyes. “You are delicious,” he muttered. “I can’t wait to see you again.”
“Me, too.” She smiled and grabbed her purse. “I better go. Thanks for dinner.”
“Thanks for saying yes.”
Chloe climbed out of the car and walked to her apartment building. Nodding to Art, the doorman, she took the elevator up to the eighth floor and entered her sacred space. Kicking off her heels, she went straight to her living room, got comfortable, and took out her phone.
He answered on the second ring. “Sweetheart! It’s so good to hear from you. What’s up?”
The sound of her father’s voice was everything good in the world, and she leaned her head back on the sofa, closing her eyes. Funny, for so many years, she hid everything from him, refusing to share any of her feelings. Now she looked forward to their talks, and though she had many close friends who’d be there anytime, she preferred going straight to her father. “Hi, Dad. Am I interrupting?”
“There’s nothing I could be doing where I’d consider you an interruption. You sound funny.”
She laughed but it turned into a half sob. “I had a date. With Drew Dinkle.”
A whistle cut over the phone. “That’s great! I’ve always liked Drew. He’s got his priorities straight—family values, hard work, and charity. If I had a choice to set you up with anyone, I’d pick Drew. How’d it go?”
“Great. He took me to Felice’s.”
“Our favorite place. See, he’s winning already. How long have you been seeing him?”
“This was our fifth date. Dad, can I ask you something?”
“Sure.”
“Is it better to be ruled by your heart or your head?”

A series of three red boxes are delivered personally to Savich at the Hoover Building, each one containing puzzle pieces of a town only FBI agent Pippa Cinelli recognizes. Savich sends in Cinelli to investigate undercover but someone knows who she is.

Savich and Sherlock are up to their eyebrows in danger, but can they figure out the red box puzzle and the young wife’s secret before it’s too late?

Review:

Deadlock by Catherine Coulter is the 24th book in her FBI Thriller series. I looked forward to returning to this series, and it’s wonderful FBI heroes, Savich and Sherlock.  Though this is the 24th book in the series, it does read very well as a standalone. Deadlock has two cases, with one involving a past case, but it is easy to follow without a problem.

Savich begins to receive strange violent puzzles from an unknown person, and knows that this is some sort of threat.  We meet FBI agent Pippa Cinelli, who recognizes the puzzles from her old hometown, and Savich gets permission from Pippa’s boss to allow her to investigate the puzzles in her hometown to figure out who and why.

At the same time, Savich is in the right place and the right time to rescue a kidnapping attempt of Rebeka, a congressman’s wife. Savich with some help from Sherlock, will begin to investigate who is trying to hurt Rebeka. They learn that she had gone to a medium, who claimed her deceased grandfather was trying to talk to her, and the medium kept talking about stolen money hidden many years ago; Rebeka claims she knows nothing, as her grandfather’s stories were not real.  But Savich knows this is the why Rebeka’s life was in danger, and assigns Agent Griffin Hammersmith (whom we have met in previous books) to protect Rebeka.  The investigation begins with many surprising twists, with Savich being pulled between two intense cases.

Pippa begins to work with Police Chief Wilde to investigate the puzzles, and finds herself under attack by someone who is trying to stop her from going further.  Sherlock and their son are rescued from a fire in their house, which was also a threat.  We the reader, know from the start about the past case, where psychopath Marsia Gay, whom Savich sent to prison, is hell bent to enact her revenge against Savich by hurting those close to him before she has him killed.  This is a vicious and complex web going back years, and Savich, Pippa, Police Chief Wilde need to tie the missing pieces to prove Marsia is behind the threats.

What follows is a non-stop exciting and intense adventure with two different cases. Both cases intensified, with wild endings that was so very well done.  This review is difficult to write, as there are so many surprises, twists, game changers, and to tell too much more would be spoilers. I love Savich and Sherlock together, as they are a great team.  The addition of Pippa, Wilde, Griffin was also very good.  Coulter not only gives us wonderful characters we care about, but she also creates evil villains.

Deadlock was a thriller from start to finish, and even if intense at times, it was an enjoyable ride, especially with terrific our marvelous heroes.  Catherine Coulter once again gives us a fabulous story, with so many different surprises and excitement all the way to the climax.  Deadlock was a fast-paced, exciting, intriguing, suspenseful mystery.  If you like suspense, mysteries, espionage, especially in the world of CIA/FBI, I wholly suggest you read Deadlock.

The Goodbye Guy by Natasha Moore – a Review

The Goodbye Guy by Natasha Moore – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple

Description:
Rachel Bradford is finally living her dream as the star of her own interior design show. But ratings are slipping, and if she wants to save the show, she has to set an episode in the hometown she fled. Worst of all, she’s going to have to work with the cocky bad boy who humiliated her.

Single dad, Beckett Colburn plans to turn an old fire station into a neighborhood bar. He’s blindsided when he discovers his family made a deal to turn his dream into a reality TV project. He’d rather run into a burning building than work with his childhood nemesis–on camera.

But it’s not easy with a TV crew in town stirring up trouble, spreading rumors, creating buzz. Not to mention the inconvenient sudden attraction that sparks every time Rachel and Beckett fight.

Review:

This the second novel in Natasha Moore’s Men of Lakeside series. As a second novel, it’s usually not as wonderful as the first. Great surprise! This one’s fantastic! Kudo to Natasha Moore on returning to Lakeside and giving us a fabulous story.

This is the story of Rachel Bradford and Beckett Colburn. Rachael and Beckett went to high school together and they were certainly not friends. Rachael’s most embarrassing moment came from Beckett and a few exaggerations he made. His worst moment came from Rachael yelling at him that he would never leave this town and would work for his family his whole life. So, no. They weren’t old friends or lovers…  However, neither will admit that there was an attraction, but their families were not friends and were always at opposite ends of politics in Lakeside, so they followed suit.

Rachel left Lakeside and ditched her families plans for her college to study art and design, where her heart and imagination led her. They’ve never let her forget what a disappointment that was for them. Even though she now has her own TV show The Rachel Touch. She works hard to get and keep her show fresh and exciting, maybe too hard.  So far, there are no limits to what she’ll do to keep her career on top. Now the producers want more. More excitement and skill. They’ve decided on a project in her hometown (that she’s never returned to), restyling an old firehouse station into a neighborhood bar for none other than her nemesis Beckett Colburn. She so doesn’t want to do this, but saving her show and career is a must.

Beckett is the youngest of the Colburn and Sons crew. He still feels he must prove himself trustworthy to his family. Noah, his older brother is mayor of Lakeside and along with their father, has arranged with The Rachel Touch producers to have them do the design and refurbishment of the family’s new project, without consulting Beckett. Beckett is not happy. He’s concerned about trying to work with Rachael, will she try to sabotage his bar? Can he keep control of “his” project and still do his work and raise his daughter?

Beckett is a single father. His daughter, Holly, is a fan of the Rachael Touch and Rachel herself. Rachel’s producer wants some family drama and forbidden romance, anything to push the show’s ratings.

Between all the animosity, will they be able to work together. Twenty years can change a lot of things, will they be able to reconcile their differences enough to work together? And what about that old attraction, could that still be alive?

Natasha Moore has been able to build her wonderful characters and hometown settings into a spectacular story with full on family drama, town politics, career issues, and sizzling romance. Grab a copy for yourself and get set for a wonderful read!

Love is a weakness for a man like me…

Two years ago my enemies murdered my wife.
They took away the mother of my newborn son.
That’s how I became the beast…
A merciless, heartless, soulless creature.

That’s why I made the deal with Ava:
Take her to repay her father’s debt…

I couldn’t resist.
Not when I saw she feared me as much as she wanted me.
I wanted the beauty, a woman nearly half my age.
I wanted to own her and possess her.
Then I wanted more.
More than her obedience and submission.
I wanted her body, heart, mind and soul.

I never knew I was signing my death warrant when our paths collided.
I never knew who she truly was: A Bratva princess who’s supposed to be a ghost.
Her dark secrets unearth old enemies who want her dead.

I’m Vincent Giordano, underboss to the Giordano family .
I should know better than to start a war.
I should know better than to let love into my cold heart.
This isn’t a fairytale.
When she kisses me I won’t turn into a prince.
I’ll still be the beast.
Yet, I can’t let them take her.
I just don’t know what it will cost me this time.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 23, 2020.

Luca dragged me from hell and delivered me to salvation.
At least that’s what I thought.

I hoped this would be a new life. A fresh start.
But the pain followed.
I’m certain the monsters did, too.

I’m told it’s paranoia. Trauma. PTSD.
Nobody believes my truth.
But they’ll soon learn.

We all will.

Because as much as I want to forget the mantra from my nightmares, it hasn’t stopped being true.
The good guys never conquer. Evil always wins.

REVIEW: LUCA is the fifth instalment in Eden Summers contemporary, adult HUNTING HER romantic suspense series, and part two of Penny Decker and ex Navy SEAL Luca Hart’s duet. LUCA should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events of book four SAVIOR wherein Penny and several women were rescued from a sexual slave operation. The story ARC begins in book three TORIAN.

SOME BACKGROUND: Approximately two years earlier Penny Decker disappeared and had been held captive in Greece, as a sexual slave along with several other women, by crime lord Luther Torian. Luther Torian is the estranged father of Cole Torian (Torian #3) and Keira Torian (Decker #2). In book four SAVIOR, Penny, along with the other women were rescued and brought back to safety in the USA but trouble has followed our heroine home.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Luca and Penny) LUCA focuses on Penny’s recovery from months spent serving a monster but all is not well in Penny’s life as she continues to struggle with PTSD and issues of trust. Currently under the care, and living at the home of Luca Hart, Penny remains withdrawn and unsure, unable to move beyond the pain and damage of what happened or why. As Luca’s attraction to Penny grows with every encounter, Luca battles between head and heart knowing Penny has suffered greatly at the hands of Luther Torian and his second in command Robert. What ensues is the slow building romance and relationship between Luca and Penny, and the fall-out as Penny and the women remain virtual captives of their past but a past that is continuing to affect their present.

Penny Decker believes she is unworthy of happiness or love, and her personal pity parties often become self-fulfilling prophecies as she is unable to move beyond the past-two steps forward, one step back- our heroine‘s emotional struggles, and refusal to talk, are affecting her relationship with our leading hero. Luca Hart’s attraction to Penny was immediate upon their first interaction at the compound in Greece but Luca refuses to cross the proverbial line, a line Penny is hoping did not exist.

The relationship between Penny and Luca begins in book four SAVIOR and continues to build in the current time line. Living at Luca’s house, Penny busies herself cooking and cleaning but is unable to let go of what happened in Greece believing herself a victim of circumstance and life. Luca knows Penny is the woman that calls to his heart but even his heart knows that Penny is going to take time to heal. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Cole Torian and Anissa Fox, Sebastian Decker and Keira Torian, Luke Hunter, Cole and Keira’s half-brother Tobias; security operative Sarah; Luca’s brother Benji, and Benji’s wife Layla. The requisite evil has many faces.

LUCA is a story of betrayal, vengeance, and obsession; healing, relationships, friendships and love. The premise is engaging and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic, dynamic, broken and lost. LUCA ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
