ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 30, 2020

The devil in my nightmares is the man of my dreams.

For the past three years, I’ve been running from a man I’ve never met. A man who carries a grudge. A man who specializes in revenge. I thought I had it all—a career and a new home in a sleepy small town. My world comes crashing down when a sexy gang member from the city arrives at my job, wrapped in tattoos and sinful smiles. Beneath his flirtatious facade beats the heart of an angry man. I’ve committed the one sin he can never forgive. I stole from him, and he won’t be satisfied until he’s repaid with the money or my life.

They say there are two kinds of power: power derived from fear and power obtained by acts of love. Cash Delacorte holds them both over my head. He’s everything I never wanted: dark, deceptive, and dedicated to a life of crime. He’s determined to pull me into the darkness with him, and the thing is—I want to go. Every kiss, every lie, every punishment propels me into a future I never dreamed possible.

Making Whoopie (Hot Cakes) by Erin Nicholas-Review & Excerpt tour

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 30, 2020

This marriage of convenience is about to get sticky.

Getting hitched for the health insurance is not Jocelyn Asher’s idea of romance.

But the hospital quote has really frosted her cookies, and suddenly, “I’m rich. We should just get married,” sounds a whole lot more swoony.

Especially when the man proposing is this gorgeous. And takes her to parties featuring champagne and petit fours. She’s a sucker for anything with bubbles or icing. And just like that she finds herself married to a near stranger.

Grant Lorre is usually allergic to spontaneity.

So why did he ask the beautiful small-town baker he had a one-stand with to marry him? Somehow watching her lick batter off a whisk–not a euphemism–made a wedding and a little fraud seem like a sweet idea.

They’ll just play house and make some whoopie–pies, of course–for a few months and then move on with their separate lives. Until then, bring on the cream filling. And that is a euphemism.

But as things heat up even outside of the kitchen, they quickly realize there’s no recipe to follow when it comes to love.

REVIEW:MAKING WHOOPIE is the third instalment in Erin Nicholas’ contemporary, adult HOT CAKES erotic, romance series focusing on the new owners and investors in the Hot Cakes snack company in Appleby, Iowa (Aiden, Dax, Cam, Ollie and Grant). This is Hot Cakes co-owner Grant Lorre, and baker/cake decorator Jocelyn Asher’s story line. MAKING WHOOPIE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

SOME BACKGROUND: Several months earlier, business partners Aiden, Dax, Cam, Ollie and Grant bought the faltering Hot Cakes snack company in Appleby, Iowa saving the town in the process. These are their stories.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Grant and Jocelyn) MAKING WHOOPIE follows the marriage of convenience between Hot Cakes co-owner Grant Lorre, and baker/cake decorator Jocelyn Asher. Jocelyn Asher works at for her best friend Zoe McCaffery’s home town bakery called Buttered Up, and in the previous weeks, Grant Lorre, one of the new co-owners of the Hot Cakes Factory has visited Buttered Up every morning. At a family dinner where Grant Lorre has been invited, feeling stupid and left out, Jocelyn leaves in an effort to get away from the magnetic pull towards the man that catches her eye. Blurting out her feelings, Grant takes advantage of Jocelyn’s moment of weakness, and finds himself spending a night ‘making whoopie’ but all is not well in Jocelyn’s life, and Grant makes our heroine an offer she cannot refuse. What ensues is a marriage of convenience, and the potential fall-out when Grant admits he doesn’t do coupling, and believes a woman should be able to go it alone.

Jocelyn Asher loves working for Zoe McCaffery but working for Zoe isn’t making our heroine rich. Struggling with a personal emergency Grant offers Jocelyn a temporary reprieve that sees our couple married, if only for the short term. Grant Lorre is all about financial independence and teaches women how to invest and survive in the real world but miscommunication and a need to see Jocelyn succeed finds our couple at odds including the permanency of their days old marriage.

The relationship between Jocelyn and Grant is one of mutual attraction but Grant’s quiet demeanor belies a man who is disinterested in our story line heroine until Jocelyn takes the first steps towards her own happily ever after. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate and FUN, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters include Grant’s partners Aiden, Dax, Cam and Ollie; Zoe McCaffery, and Jocelyn’s sister Paige, Jane, Kelsey, Aspen and Henry.

MAKING WHOOPIE is a story of friends, family, relationships and love; a sugary tale about a quirky baker and a guarded hero with a white knight complex who believes all women should be financially independent. The premise is sweet and spicy; the characters are spirited; the romance is furious and fun.

No one fell in love over cheesy potatoes.
That was ridiculous. There was nothing sexy about cheesy potatoes. Or potatoes without cheese, for that matter.
But lust? Well, that was a possibility. Apparently.
Because watching Grant Lorre eat cheesy potatoes across her best friend’s mother’s dining room table was making Jocelyn Asher hot.
Of course, Maggie McCaffery’s cheesy potatoes were award-winning. Seriously. She’d taken home the purple ribbon four times from the Dubuque County Fair and twice from the Iowa State Fair. And Grant seemed to agree that they were delicious. He’d made a sexy groaning sound when he’d first taken a bite, and Josie had been mesmerized as his lips closed around the tines of his fork. Never mind how her heart rate had picked up when he’d turned the fork and licked it.
She was a mess. Purple ribbon or not, Josie was pretty sure that getting worked up over watching a man eat potatoes meant she was hard up.
She took a long drink of iced tea and tried to remember the last time she’d had sex. If she wasn’t forgetting anyone—and how sad would that be—the last time had been with Ben Davis. After Kara Davis’s, now Tibbin’s, wedding.
Last week Kara had been into Buttered Up, the bakery where Josie worked with her best friend Zoe, to order a miniature version of her wedding cake to celebrate their first anniversary.
Josie sighed. That had to explain the sexy potato thing going on across the table. It had to.
But then Grant laughed at something Aiden, his best friend and Zoe’s fiancé—yes, it was one big happy group at this table—said, and Josie felt her neglected lady parts clench. Yeah, it wasn’t the potatoes.
Thankfully.
Kind of.
As weird as getting turned on by potatoes might be, it might have been preferable to being turned on by the man who had been coming into the bakery nearly every morning for the past two weeks, but hadn’t so much as asked her to have a cup of coffee with him.
He’d asked her if the blueberries in the muffins were locally sourced. He’d asked her if they had any gluten-free cinnamon scones. He’d asked her for a lemon slice for his cup of hot water. But that was pretty much the extent of the things he’d asked her over the course of the time they’d known each other.
Oh, and he’d caught her when she’d fallen off a ladder. Twice. Very gallantly.
He’d swept her up before she’d hit the floor. Like a freaking knight in shining armor.
But both times he’d simply set her on her feet and gone on with his day.
She, on the other hand, was now getting hot and bothered by side dishes.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Erin Nicholas has been writing romances almost as long as she’s been reading them. To date, she’s written over thirty sexy, contemporary novels that have been described as “toe-curling,” “enchanting,” “steamy,” and “fun.” She adores reluctant heroes, imperfect heroines, and happily ever afters.

Erin lives in the Midwest, where she enjoys spending time with her husband (who only wants to read the sex scenes in her books), her kids (who will never read the sex scenes in her books), and her family and friends (who claim to be “shocked” by the sex scenes in her books).

Then I found out the new athlete was none other than the most wanted man in hockey today: Hunter Maddox

Gifted. Sexy. At the top of his game. And the only man who has ever broken my heart.

If signing him will help save our family business, I’ll swallow my pride and do what’s asked.

But when it becomes clear his uncharacteristic antics off the ice are a hint of something deeper, keeping things strictly professional between us becomes more than complicated. But I know better than to cross that line.

I’ll never date a client. Not even for him.

Win the Stanley Cup and do it before time runs out.

Not a small feat, but it’s what’s motivated me since the start of my career.

And time is running out.

Enter Dekker Kincade.

Feisty. Dogged. Damn gorgeous. The one I let get away.

I have no idea why she’s traveling with the team, but hell if resisting her is going to be easy.

REVIEW: HARD TO HANDLE is the first instalment in K. Bromberg’s contemporary, adult PLAY HARD erotic, romance series. This is thirty-two year olds, professional hockey player and New Jersey Lumberjacks team captain Hunter Maddox, and sports agent Dekker Kincade’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Hunter and Dekker) HARD TO HANDLE follows the second chance romance and relationship between professional hockey player and team captain Hunter Maddox, and sports agent Dekker Kincade. Hunter Maddox is all about the game of hockey including the drive for the Stanley Cup. With his contract up for renewal Hunter comes face to face with his former ‘friends with benefits’, sports agent Dekker Kincade, the woman who walked away three years earlier and broke his heart but there is more to Dekker’s appearance than a friendly hello. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Dekker and Hunter and the potential fall-out as Dekker struggles between head and heart, and Hunter’s current attitude is affecting everyone both on and off the ice.

Dekker Kincade and her three sisters work for their father’s KSM agency, and Dekker’s current assignment is to procure professional hockey player Hunter ‘Mad Dog’ Maddox but Dekker knows that to face Hunter Maddox means to potentially lose her professionalism in the face of lust, love and the man who had stolen her heart. Hunter Maddox is slowly spiraling out of control. A once, well oiled, self contained hockey machine, Hunter’s antics in public and on the ice hide a deeper, emotional fall-out that he keeps hidden to himself. Angry at the world, Hunter begins to take out his frustrations on his teammate, his family and the woman he loves.

The relationship between Hunter and Dekker is one of second chances: a rekindling romance that was destroyed by Dekker’s need to run, something she continues to do with each encounter with our story line hero. Dekker is the one woman whom Hunter is unable to forgive but the woman he knows has stolen his heart. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to the Kincade sisters: Lennox, Chase, Brexton, and their father Kenyon Kincade; Maddox’s parents Gary and Carla Hunter, his brother Jonah, agent Finn Sanderson, and several members of the team: Callum Withers, goalie Katzen , Frankie, Maysen and Coach Junger.

HARD TO HANDLE is a story of family, relationships, struggles and love. A story of sibling rivalry, parental control, loss, grief, guilt and acceptance. The premise is emotional and real; the characters are edgy and dramatic; the romance is provocative and intense.

center;”>I stare at Hunter. At his shirt plastered with sweat and
how it clings to his body, despite the chill of the ice his skates are standing on. He has
his warm-up pants on and is without a helmet, his hair curling at the ends from thesweat. And all I see in his eyes is anger I didn’t put there. Or maybe I did. Rejection can do that
to a man . . . but there’s something more here. Something I walked in on that doesn’tmake sense.

“Don’t give me that look, Kincade,” Hunter mutters as he skates over to the penalty box

where his electrolyte drink sits.
“What look?” I ask.

He half laughs, half snorts and meets my gaze across the distance. “Disappointment.
Disproval. Disdain. I’m the king of all of them, so save your breath—or in this case—your

glare, because it’s not going to work with me.”

“Are we working on emotions that start with the letter D today?” I ask. A hint of my
embarrassment and anger over how I acted last night creeps into my voice, but I mask it
with sarcasm. “If that’s the case, I’m more than impressed with your answers thus far.”
He clenches his jaw in response and then skates back over to line up more pucks so he
can shoot them. And he does, one after another, each shot taken with laser precision and

a healthy dose of fury behind it.

He goes through the first ten lined up and then stops to catch his breath.
His talent and skill are undeniable, but so is the beer bottle in my hand.
“Just because you’re the captain and star of this team, doesn’t mean management won’t

frown upon this,” I say, unable to let this go.
“Screw the management.”

“No one likes a player who’s hard to handle and honestly, Hunter, you’re becoming hard

to handle.”

“No one likes unsolicited advice from someone who has no bearing on his career,

either,” he counters, the rebuke stinging but deserved.

The problem is, I do care about him. Doesn’t he get that’s where my hostility stems

from?

And only a crazy person would say that, Dekker.

I put my hands up in surrender to both him and my own thoughts. “You know I only
want the best for you.” I take a few steps in his direction in the first row of the stands.
I’m close enough to catch the hitch of his movement and to see uncertainty flicker in his
eyes. It’s almost as if he needs to talk but doesn’t see me as someone he can trust. I hate

that. “What is it, Hunter?”
“Nothing. It’s . . . never mind.”

But I see it, and he knows I see it. The question is what do I see, though?

Home Before Dark by Riley Sager – a Review

Home Before Dark by Riley Sager – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
What was it like? Living in that house.

Maggie Holt is used to such questions. Twenty-five years ago, she and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. They spent three weeks there before fleeing in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His tale of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity—and skepticism.

Today, Maggie is a restorer of old homes and too young to remember any of the events mentioned in her father’s book. But she also doesn’t believe a word of it. Ghosts, after all, don’t exist. When Maggie inherits Baneberry Hall after her father’s death, she returns to renovate the place to prepare it for sale. But her homecoming is anything but warm. People from the past, chronicled in House of Horrors, lurk in the shadows. And locals aren’t thrilled that their small town has been made infamous thanks to Maggie’s father. Even more unnerving is Baneberry Hall itself—a place filled with relics from another era that hint at a history of dark deeds. As Maggie experiences strange occurrences straight out of her father’s book, she starts to believe that what he wrote was more fact than fiction.

Review:

Home Before Dark by Riley Sager is another standalone psychological thriller that I have become accustomed to from this author.  I am amazed how Sager continues to write intense exciting edge of your seat stories that have us holding our breaths from start to finish.

Home Before Dark switches between two POV’s; one set in the present and the other set 25 years ago.  We meet our heroine, Maggie Holt, who inherits a Victorian estate in Vermont from her father, who recently deceased.  Maggie has spent most of her life knowing about this scary mansion, as 25 years ago her parents bought the rundown Baneberry Hall; and after staying only 20 days, they run out of the house to never come back.  Her father wrote a bestselling book (House of Horrors) about their horrifying experience with spirits/ghosts, and Maggie has hated this book, believing it all to be a lie.  She remembers nothing about the place, especially since she was only 5 years old at the time, and neither of her parents would ever talk about it.

Despite her mother trying to convince Maggie (she is an interior designer) to not go there, just sell it, she decides to go and renovate the estate, and then sell it.  Maggie will begin to hear strange noises in the night, and we learn more about those who lived in the house and the so-called spirits from her POV.  I liked seeing Maggie’s POV, but it was her father’s (Ewan) POV that was scary, crazy and horrifying, as we saw through his eyes what was happening.  In Ewan’s POV, most of it is from his book, which details the horror, ghosts, etc; which eventually drove them out of the house.

In the present time, Maggie begins to see shadows and noises, which she tries to shake off as her imagination.  Having hated the book as a lie, she begins to worry that maybe she is wrong, especially after talking to those who were still alive and were part of the mansion.  There are so many twists and surprises that we see in Maggie’s present time that slowly changes the game, and it is here where during the last 1/3 of the book it becomes a wild, exciting, riveting race to the climax.  I was on the edge of my seat, as one surprise after another kept me unable to put the book down; a couple of times I needed to step away, as I felt parts being downright creepy.

What follows is an intense, exciting, creepy, edge of your seat gothic horror thriller that a had so many surprising twists, keeping us engrossed to the very end.  Riley Sager once again gives us another fantastic story that was so very well written.  I do not want to give any spoilers, as you really need to read Home Before Dark from start to finish.  If you enjoy thrillers, suspense, and mystery, look no further than reading anything by Riley Sager.

••••••••••

REVIEW:FLAME by Donna Grant is the seventeenth full-length instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy romance focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. This is navy Dragon Cain, and Dark Fae Noreen’s story line. FLAME should not be read as a stand alone as the current story line continues to follow the ongoing series arc.

SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland, including the latest spin off about the Fae executioners known as the REAPERS. The Dragon Kings have a new enemy with the recent appearance of a group known as the Others, but their true identity and membership is currently unknown. As each Dragon King falls in love and finds his mate, King Constantine is pulled further away from the woman he loves, a woman he betrayed thousands of years earlier.

Told from several third person perspectives including Noreen and Cain FLAME focuses on the search for the truth, and the identity of the group known as the Others. An anonymous email to the Dreagon, the home of the Dragon Kings, finds Navy dragon Cain volunteering to ferret out the information the sender claims to know. Enter Dark Fae Noreen, a member of the Others, and the woman with whom Cain will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Cain and Noreen, and the potential fall-out as betrayal is inevitable when dealing with the enemy.

Navy dragon King Cain knows he has found his mate in the Dark Fae Noreen but trust doesn’t come easily for the other Kings. Having been betrayed in the past, and the obvious issue of Noreen’s identity, the Dragon Kings struggle to accept Noreen at face value including Rhi, a powerful Fae who sees more than most. While Rhi battles between head and heart, her Dragon King slowly begins to spiral out of control without the love of the woman he had chosen to destroy.

FLAME, like many of the previous storylines, recounts and chronicles the history of the Dragons, the Fae, the Druids and humankind; the betrayal leading to war between the dragons and human but also reveals the reason for the Others-their determination, their drive, their goals and their vengeance. We are introduced to their leader, their members and the powerful magic that controls the world but a magic that is slowly dissipating from other realms with prolonged and nefarious use.

FLAME is a story of betrayal, secrets, vengeance and lies. A tale of powerful magic and manipulation, broken minds and broken souls. The premise is intriguing and emotional; the romance is seductive and intense; the characters are spirited, animated and impassioned.
