Review:

Come  Here, Kitten by Emilia Rose is the first book in her God of War series. That was somewhat pretty good. Once you get past the sex, the corny lines. The story was original and captivating. I could not put it down…..

You do need your brain in gear as I did have to read a few things twice!!

Ares God of War!! Harbinger of doom and destruction, he’s after the Malavite Stone, why you ask? Well, I’ll tell you…..

Aurora alpha in training (which is mentioned a lot!) but she’s not actually in training! Her mother the first female alpha of The DarkMoon pack is suppose to be training her daughter, but she’s spending more time fretting about the coming war with Ares and his pack of bloodthirsty wolves and training Aurora’s soon to be Beta!!

The reason being, Aurora can’t shift! She was almost killed by rogues, she has the ability (she has the wolf inside) but her spine was shattered, so making shifting impossible (well it takes too long) and uncomfortable beyond belief…..

So as far as Aurora is concerned she’s broken, and believes her mother and pack thinks so too. So trying to believe Ares when he tells her she will be Luna of his pack is going to take time.

If I say too much it’s going to give things away. But I will say it’s worth a little confusion. The storyline is good, the fight scenes are bloody, and the romance is hot and steamy.

Ares is hard to read, he’s both hard and soft, caring and cruel. And when Aurora becomes his unwilling mate, she sees all those sides to him and more. So who is Ares, the soft and caring brother and mate, or the ruthless leader who crushes anyone and everything in his path?

Ares is a complex character, he hides facets of himself from most people, but he can’t help but show his softer side to Aurora, yes she’s his mate, but she’s distracting him from his mission! He wants to be her Alpha, but he also wants her to want all of him….

Oh, I forgot to tell you why Ares is after the Stone didn’t I? It’s because….. no, can’t tell you, it’s better if you read it for yourself. ?

First book in the series, and I’m hoping it’s going to be a series, there is a lot of potential, and I’m really hoping Marcel from Ares pack gets a book. A few minor characters give us a little light relief from all the angst that’s in this book, one being Raffles (named for the crisps she loves so much) a cat with attitude had me smiling whenever I read about the feline.

The thing I was a little uncomfortable with was the way her mother treated her, that was sad, her spineless father never stood up for her, her beta who basically only wanted her for her position in the pack, I felt pity for her, but that never stopped her doing her own thing (and I liked that a lot her) she was crushed time and time again, but she dusted herself off and got on with it.

The rogue’s add the element of mystery, why target Aurora? Do they know something Ares doesn’t? The whereabouts of the Malavite Stone?

The interaction between the MC’s had me pinging from frustration to amusement, screaming at my kindle and rolling my eyes at the way they danced around one another! Neither would tell the other where the stone was or why the stone was so important! But when Aurora finds out why Ares wants the stone, can she help him? Will she want to help him? And when Ares finds out Aurora knows where the stone is, will he demand it? Or can he listen to reason?

TRC: Hi, Emilia.  Welcome to The Reading Café.

Thank you so much for having me!

TRC: We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Hi everyone! I’m a twenty-something year old living in Pittsburgh, PA with my two cats and my boyfriend. I went to college, thinking I was going to become a psychologist but launched my writing career before I finished school. I have been plugging away at it ever since and am so glad that I’ve taken the leap, so I could write steamy (and smutty) romance books all day, every day!

To everyone who hasn’t heard it yet, follow your dreams no matter how crazy they might be!

TRC:  When and how did you first become interested in writing?

My book-loving journey started in middle school when I used to devour ALL of the Stephanie Plum novels. They were probably a bit too raunchy for 14 year old Emilia, but I couldn’t stop reading them.

And then in high school, I turned to Wattpad and found so many different werewolf novels that I absolutely fell in love with. I loved being able to think of myself in a supernatural world with beings who had different abilities like shape-shifting. So, I joined a creative writing club in high school called The Ink Bandits and have been writing ever since!

TRC: Can you please give us a brief description of Come Here, Kitten.

Taming an alpha is never easy—even when you’re his mate.

ARES

Warmonger Alpha Ares promises to kill anyone who has the Malavite Stone—a crystal packed with ungodly powers and healing properties. From slaughtering packs to building himself an empire, he will stop at nothing to find it.

That is until he meets Aurora.

AURORA

Aurora thinks she knows exactly how to destroy such an arrogant alpha: with a good night and some ale spiked with wolfsbane.

But she has three little secrets that could threaten her entire existence…

– She knows where the Malavite Stone is.

– A pack of bloodthirsty rogues are trying to kill her.

– And she’s falling for the man she once feared.

Can Aurora fend off the rogues alone? What will Ares do when he finds out Aurora’s secrets? Will their relationship survive their fate? Enter into this steamy, paranormal world today to find out!

Come Here, Kitten is an erotic werewolf romance written by Emilia Rose and is the first book in the God of War series.

TRC: What inspired you to write Come Here, Kitten?

My readers wanted to see me write more possessive alphas, and along came the cruel and ruthless Alpha Ares. This book has characters who face real-life problems and who have disabilities that many people face today–whether it’s mental disorders or physical limitations. I have found inspiration to bring those characters to life in a paranormal realm.

TRC:  What is your writing process?  Do you like to outline your story before you start? Do you have a specific place you like to write?  Is there a special time of day that works best for you?

I am all over the place. Usually, for the first book in a series I let the character do whatever they want. They drive the story and lead me to places that I never thought I would go. By book two or book three, I outline the entire book chapter by chapter, so my characters don’t go out of character or do something crazy to mess with the growing story-line in my head.

As for a specific writing place, it’s just wherever I feel motivation to write.

Morning/midday definitely work best for me. I CANNOT do night time writing. I’m not a night owl by any means because… well, I love my sleep.

TRC: Walk us through a day in the life of Emilia Rose.

I’m dreaming about the hero in my latest WIP, when my boyfriend’s alarm yanks me out of la-la land at 8am sharp. After lounging in bed for half an hour, I make my way to the living room to listen to music and day-dream some more about the scenes and chapters I’ll be writing during the day. At 10am, I grab my mask and leave for the coffee shop to work for a couple hours on one of my many WIPs, trying to get four to six chapters completed. After gulping down two large jasmine teas, I make it back home, do some admin stuff, make dinner, and watch a movie or netflix shows as my cat, Peanut, curls up in my lap.

TRC:  Can you please tell us what you are working on now, and what you have upcoming in the last quarter of 2020 and 2021.

I’m working on ten paranormal and contemporary romance books in 2021, including my God of War series, Submission Trilogy, and Excite Me trilogy.

My God of War series, which starts with Come Here, Kitten, will be a four or more book werewolf romance series following Aurora and Ares as they conquer vicious hounds in the Sanguine Wilds. It includes a mix of Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology and rates high on the steam scale!

My Submission Trilogy, which starts with my fan-favorite book Submitting to the Alpha, is a steamy werewolf romance. It follows Roman and Isabella as they face a deadly and corrupt god. There is also a fun spin-off about twin-alphas who both have the same mate!

And last but definitely not least is my Excite Me trilogy. Excite Me is a three-book contemporary romance about Mia and her best friend’s father. Their love is forbidden and oh-so-sexy! I have absolutely fallen in love with these characters and cannot wait for everyone to get their hands on these books!

Most of these books are currently available on Patreon but will be available on Amazon soon!

TRC: What other hobbies or interests do you have?

Like any other writer, I enjoy spending time with my two cats and my boyfriend, and getting lost in another Netflix show. My favorite show right now is The Witcher for plot purposes only… definitely NOT for Henry Cavill as the bad-ass, monster-slaughtering hunk Geralt 😉

TRC:  Would you like to add anything else?

All my current work is available on Patreon, including seven complete novels, three updating novels, and 40+ steamy one-shot stories which will eventually be expanded into books. You can read my work here: http://www.patreon.com/emiliarosewriting

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 19, 2020

My name may be Romeo, but I’m far from romantic. My brother betrayed the family, forcing me into the role of underboss beneath the criminal mastermind that is our father.

I’ve never been a merciless criminal, and my father tests my resolve by giving me a stolen woman, knowing the situation disturbs me. What he doesn’t know is the disheveled beauty intrigues me.

She tried to kill me with my own gun on the first night, pushing my fixation into a dangerous addiction.
She’s unknowingly teaching me the power I have, and now I’m going to take over my father’s empire.
It’s a cold dark path to the top and I’m finally ready to lead the way.

•••••••

REVIEW: BEAUTIFUL THIEF is the second instalment in MN Forgy’s contemporary, adult, OMERTA LAW dark, erotic, romance series. This is Romeo DeAngelo, and Luna’s story line. BEAUTIFUL THIEF can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Romeo DeAngelo was first introduced in book one BEAUTIFUL CRIMINAL.

NOTE: BEAUTIFUL THIEF contains graphic scenes of violence that may not be suitable for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Romeo and Luna) using present day and memories from the past, BEAUTIFUL THIEF follows in the aftermath of Kieran DeAngelo’s exit from the DeAngelo Crime Family, and Romeo’s reluctance to become an underboss in his father’s organization. To prove he is worthy, Romeo must negotiate the purchase of sex slaves, something of which he was unaware but Romeo’s latest acquisition is someone familiar, someone who stole his heart years before. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Romeo and Luna, and the potential fall-out as Luna’s time with Romeo comes to a close.

The relationship between Luna and Romeo begins as a business arrangement, one in which Romeo had no idea as to what had happened. Rescuing one woman from sexual slavery meant many other women had been left behind, and in this Romeo is about to enter into the dark side, in an effort to avenge the woman with whom he is falling in love.

We are witness to Romeo’s breakdown fifteen years earlier wherein our anti-hero will meet his ‘flower’, a woman whose predilections and violent tendencies will eventually match Romeo’s own. Romeo was never number one in his father’s eye but with the departure of his brother Kieran, Romeo needed to prove he was worthy of wearing the proverbial crown.

We are reintroduced to Romeo’s brother Kieran and his girlfriend/wife Leona; Romeo and Kieran’s parents, as well as the return of their Uncle Gio and Leo.

BEAUTIFUL THIEF is a fast paced story of blood, bondage, family and crime; a story of power and control; rescue and revenge. The premise is dark and gritty; the characters are energetic, manic and a little bit crazy; the romance is wild and free.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 4, 2020

Waking to a macabre world filled with thirst, Danny Roberts finds himself a thrall to a vampire calling herself Mistress, compelled to bend to her every whim. A member of an organization called the Shepherds, Mistress keeps humanity safe from wolves, those who would harm the innocent and threaten the ancient peace between humans and Vampires. But all is not what it seems. Change is coming, dark forces stir in the corners of reality, and time is growing short. Will Danny be able to overcome his own weakness and embrace his destiny or succumb to the power lurking in the shadows?
Only Time will tell..

••••••••

REVIEW: That was a really good book, just a little confusing in places. Lots of characters, and I’m not sure if they were all needed! In fact with everything that’s going on, it could have been made into a two books.

Danny is now a vampire’s slave (known as a thrall) but not just any thrall, Danny seems to have retained his own mind, and that’s never been heard of before. So his “mistress” can keep him and he can help her chase down “Wolves” He doesn’t remember how he was “turned”, but he can’t be around people, and certainly not his friend and partner Sophia.

Sophia is his detective partner, she’s always worried about him, but now he’s a vampire he can’t associate with her, he needs to disappear…..

Mistress is a head Shepherd, it’s a vampire council that monitor the humans, (Sheep) and when the Wolves (killer humans) start killing off the humans (a vampire can’t have his food source killed off, they have to eat) then the vampires call for the Wolf Hunters. Mistress is going to train Danny to be her apprentice.

There is a lot of conflicting emotions coming from Mistress, she thinks the vampires are superior. And reading all her abilities I have to agree, but spending time with Danny, you see her softening towards him. I think she admires him, she also treats him like a child and talks to him like a mother would her son.

After dispatching the latest serial killer, Mistress and Danny are then dispatched to L.A. chasing down this killer is proving a little more trickier.

Danny also has learn to harness his “Will”, (the power to change and control his body, his appearance and to influence others) that’s only one of his gifts. He also learns he can tolerate sunshine, the more he drinks, the more he can tolerate. But there is also a side to the blood taken, you can’t kill a “sheep” or the blood can have bad repercussions!

This book is more gothic horror than romance. And a really good murder/mystery thrown in. There is something else going on in the background, can Danny and Mistress figure it out? I must admit it, I got drawn in and that’s where I stayed till I finished.

The suspense is there, the action is thrown at you, and if I could I would have hid behind my fingers at some of the scenes. This would make an excellent film. And one I’d go and watch.

The interaction between Mistress and Danny felt a little stilted at first, then it flowed beautifully. Her sarcastic barbs thrown at Danny had to make me both chuckle and cringe for him. Watching him grow into his new role was fascinating. In fact at one point I thought he would outgrow his mistress.

Loved the interaction with the librarian Libby, she was quick, inquisitive and a font of knowledge.

I read a lot of vampire literature, from Dracula to sparkly, Master to victim, hero and villain. But this was unlike anything I’ve read before. A new concept to an old genre.

I’d happily recommend this book to anyone that fancies a book with “bite”

She is running from her past life as London’s most prized mistress.
When beautiful Fancy Booker’s last benefactor leaves her his fortune, she sails for the new country of America.
Giving herself the name Liberty Wexford, she hopes to set a new course for her life—alone.  The last thing she needs is another man in her life.

He has no time for a woman, since the Revolutionary War is a jealous mistress. Hawk Gentry has two guiding principles. First, as a Son of Liberty, he must be cautious of others, especially anyone British. Second, as a child, he and his Passamaquoddy Indian mother were left alone while his French father trapped or fought wars. He vows never to do the same to any woman he loves, and the family they may have.

Will the war unite or divide them?

When Liberty and Hawk run into each other on the unruly streets of Boston, they begin a tentative friendship. Even though neither wants romance, the sparks fly between them from the moment they meet. As their relationship blossoms, their pasts rise up to haunt them.
Will Liberty and Hawk overcome the obstacles that seem certain to force them apart? With the Revolutionary War beginning, can love hold the hearts of a Hawk and A BRITISH COURTESAN IN AMERICA?

Reading order:
Revolutionary Women:

Book 1 A British Heiress in America

Book 2 A British Courtesan in America

Review:

A British Courtesan in America by Becky Lower is the 2nd book in her Revolutionary Women series.

Liberty is on her way to American, to start a new life.  But it seems her old life wants to follow her, and on the ship, she makes the acquaintance of a fellow ship mate, but Liberty is not going to settle for a little fun, she wants something permanent.

Hawk is part French, part Passamaquoddy Indian, he’s a blacksmith by day, but I’m his spare time he writes columns for a paper, to rally the American troops, he works hard, he has no time for love…..

Their first encounter is when Liberty loses a shoe abs almost gets run over! Hawk comes to her rescue. There is a spark between them, but Liberty is not going to fall for it, and anyway the gentleman in question wants to return her back to her home as quick as possible!!

It makes a change for a mistress to take a starring role, they usually get delegates to sex scenes or villain status. But Liberty didn’t start out as a courtesan, se came from a loving family, but as time went on her parents died, and Liberty found herself in a place where her face could make her a fortune.

Eventually the draw between Hawk and Liberty is pulled tight, they begin a friendship, and both Hawk and Liberty realise there’s could be something more, but her past raises its head, and when she tells Hawk about her past, he’s shocked, and tells her he wants nothing to do with her!!

Does Liberty swoon like a maiden with the vapours? No, she picked herself up, renames herself and continues with her life….. I loved how Liberty reinvents herself, she’s a woman with both a spine and a brain. She’s not afraid of hard work, she gets a few jobs within this book, she’s determined never to be a kept woman again.

It did make me chuckle at the double standards Hawk had, it was ok to visit one of those ladies, but it was another thing to take one as a wife!! It’s not until both his friend and his mother point out that Liberty may not have had a choice in what she did to survive.

And so preparing to eat humble pie, Hawk goes to find her and apologise, but she’s not there! And Hawk has to use his tracking abilities to find his missing love…..

It’s a nice afternoon read. It touched upon the American/England war. It gives us a different female character, rather than the timid and virginal female, it’s a strong and resourceful woman. It’s part of a series, but it stands on its own, no need to read the first one.

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Apple

She does as well and is determined to shield him from the harsh road he will be forced to travel. It is a dream that will be denied when she is killed in battle when Gabriel is only six.

It is the beginning of Gabriel’s climb to power and how he comes to be known as the fiercest warrior in the Elven lands. He is both feared and respected by friend and foe alike. In war Elven Warriors shout their battle cry, ‘Eagle Claw’ as they race to attack their enemies. Their enemies quake at the sound as they know who they will soon face. He is Gabriel, High Lord General of the Combined Elven and Fae Armed forces, and he has no equal in the land.

Review:

The Eagle Claw Legend by M.A. Abraham is a novella set in her wonderful Elven Legends world. As we recognize by the title, this is about our illustrious hero, Gabriel and how he became the High Lord General of the Combined Elven and Fae Armed Forces.  The story begins with the birth of Gabriel to Danae and Tyrian, and his wife’s determination to allow her son to enjoy the early years of his life.  Tyrian begins immediately to slowly train Gabriel on basic things, as he knows the fates plan is to make his son into the ultimate warrior..bar none.

Danae is killed in a battle when Gabriel was only 6 years old, and despite his grief, he cannot show his father any emotions, as the father will begin to push for more strict training.  Gabriel has a brother, whom he has not seen for hundreds of years, and when Tyrian lies on his death bed, the older son is called home. Lorenth senses the life Gabriel has had all these years, and in a short time, they do become closer, as he plays pranks, and forces Gabriel to enjoy a little and have fun.

With the Demon war on the horizon, Gabriel proves his uncanny ability to sense where the enemy is, as well as training his warriors fiercely; which leads to the utmost respect and loyalty not only from his warriors, but from the Kings and leaders. Nothing gets done without the approval of Gabriel, who continues to be the best leader/warrior there ever will be.

With the help from other Kings and the Fae, they learn about the Dragons, and with their help, the tide changes in their favor.  It was nice to see some of our favorites from where it all began, King Daroth, Serenity, C’Liandra, Marious, Aren, Liessen, and in the last chapter, we hear the name of Eden (our ultimate heroine), whom Gabriel has not met yet.

This was a fun, as well as interesting story showing us how Gabriel grew up with a dominant father, and started as a child to learn to be what was expected of him by the Fates.  The Eagle Claw Legend was fast paced read, and brought back many memories.  If you are a big Elven Chronicles fan, you need to read this novella; very well done by M.A. Abraham.

Description:
A lass begging to marry him might top the list of “oddest things to happen,” but Chief Adam Macquarie is desperate. And no matter how much he hates to do it, he’s not above lying to get what he wants. Starting with the fact that he just omitted the truth about the situation back at his home—where there are no women and only a handful of other people. Because he has a secret need for a wife himself, one she won’t be too happy about when she finds out.

Lark Montgomerie is thrilled the brawny chief agrees to save her from her drunken father’s machinations of wedding her off to the first fool that agrees. He’s easy on the eyes and no one can be worse than her current options. Now a new life awaits her, on an exciting Scottish isle no less, and nothing will dampen her spirits. That is, until she arrives in her new homeland and realizes more than a few things are amiss…

Review:

The Highlander’s Unexpected Proposal by Heather McCollum is the first book in her new Brothers of Wolf Isle series.

A curse upon thee, Chief Wilyam Macquarie, and your land.

For ripping my daughter, Elspeth’s, heart in two after getting her with child and not wedding her, killing her as if ye wrapped the noose around her neck yourself…

Until your clan ceases creating bastards, turning them out into the cruel world alone…until the day when your clan learns what love is, your land and all those upon it will be barren. Your crops and livestock will wither, illness will spread, and sorrow will prevail.”

The witch clutched the dagger, stained with blood, and stabbed it into the tree. From that moment on, the tree bled, weeping for the Macquarie clan of Ulva.

Witnessed by Chief Wilyam Macquarie Randall Maclean, Dawy  Macquarie, Flora Macquarie

With a description like that I had to chuckle. Reading the book had me laughing out loud/ shaking my head / not really what I’d thought, it was so much more.

Lark is an old spinster in bygone days, but she won’t settle for a drunk and a liar, so her shrewish nature keeps the idiots at bay, until her father has had enough and says at the next Beltane festival she’s to be wed, the only thing Lark has a say in is who. And that’s why Adam found her in a tree!

Adam is a desperate man, his clan needs new blood and women are the best way to attain it, his brother Beckett is the best bet to marry, but when he hears of a father with five daughters, fate must surely be smiling down on him, his brother can have his pick, and who knows, maybe he can persuade her sisters to come for a visit (plenty of suitors)

That is until he meets the fiery eldest daughter Lark! His brother is going to have his work cut out trying to tame that one!!

Set in 1548 the story actually goes further back to 1422, it seems the lusty chief wanted the fun but not the responsibility. Making a young girl pregnant and then abandoning her brought down a curse that still haunts the Macquarie clan. Slowly the land died and people left the island, only a few remain, and now it’s Adam’s duty to bring the clansmen home, to return it to its former glory.

Adam gets a shock when it’s in fact he who comes home with a bride and not his brother!! He’s a Chief now, his responsibility is to his clan, he doesn’t have time for a bride!! But she is a bonnie lass, maybe she can help the clan to grow.

It did remind me a little of a film “seven brides for seven brothers” where the poor unsuspecting bride is taken home as is expected to cook, clean and care for her husband and his brothers!

Now poor Lark isn’t expecting six brothers, but she certainly wasn’t expecting a barren isle, people may have lived on it once, but it’s going to take more than sweeping out cottages and hanging lucky Heather! There is a vibe that causes Lark to worry, what if she isn’t the good luck charm Adam thinks she is? Maybe she should have told him about her own plight before wedding him!

The romance is slow burning , but when we get there it’s hot and steamy. The bond growing between Adam and Lark is all about trust, and the trust may turn into love, but with both of them hiding secrets, you have to hope trust will see them through it!

We have a few mystery’s to solve, the characters also have a few skeletons to reveal and exorcise!! There is also the fact that other clans don’t think the Macquarie clan will be able to live on Wolf Isle (it’s curse will see the extinction of the Macquarie clan) and the usual clan squabbles. So can the Chief break the curse? Or will his clan be cursed forever?

I loved the banter between the Macquarie brothers, you get the sense of love and loyalty. Their prowess at the games did have me rolling my eyes, a typical male chest pounding scenario. It was great seeing old MC’s from previous books, that was a nice surprise.

And as it’s book one of a new series I’m hoping all the sisters get stories, it would be handy if they all found love on the island with the Macquarie brothers ?

I’ve read a few books from this author and I’ve loved the scene she sets for you. The descriptions have you whisked back to Scotland, the laughter and smells of the campfires, the musty smell of unused homes, it’s all given great detail.

The mystery only adds to this story, the heartbreak a mother feels when a child is tossed to one side, a curse uttered in a moment of anger, and over a hundred years of misery. Can the curse be broken? Or is it simply not giving the muttering of a grief stricken mother the power? But you have to remember that in the period of time, curses, witches and god were believed in greatly, so if you give that curse the power, then it works…..

REVIEW:Ignite by Chelle Bliss is the fifth book in the Men of Inked: Heatwaves Saga. I 100% recommend reading this series in its intended reading order, I feel like you need to do this seeing as this story is a continuation of Wild Fire, the third in the series. There is so much that happens in this book that if readers are unfamiliar with the story or characters, they may not know who some people are and become confused.

We meet Tamara and Mammoth in Wildfire, we see how they start their adventure together, and in Ignite we get to see them find their happily ever after. I so enjoyed reading about them in their first book, and Tam is a hoot all on her own. She’s a Gallo and that says it all. Tamara in this story and her emotions are so real, she’s so strong all the time, but in Ignite you see her shell crack just a little. Of course Mammoth is there to make it all better, but she worries about him and the life they want to start together. The club is important to them both, but once a member always a member. Tamara and Mammoth must navigate choppy waters to find their safe harbor on the other side.

Chelle Bliss is a genius when it comes to writing hot, over the top alpha’s and the woman they fall for. This series is such a fun, happy read and I would give it 4.5 stars for sure! Congrats to the author for another great release!
