?????? ????? ???, ??? ????? ???? ?????? ???? ? ????.
We are all, for better or worse, doomed to love each other until death do us part. My heart belongs to Proserpina and St. Sebastian—even if he no longer wants it. Even if she has left it behind to follow him.
Delphine’s fled back home, and Becket’s holy calling is in peril.
And now only Rebecca and I remain at Thornchapel to face the unknown.
The door is open. The door that shouldn’t exist; the door that people have died to close. I don’t feel like the lord of the manor…I don’t feel like a king or a wild god. I am a friend and a boyfriend and a brother—and a failure at being all of these things. But the door doesn’t care about my guilt. It only cares about the sacrifice I’ll make to close it.
As the bruising dark of Samhain approaches, so does the fate of our circle, of Thornchapel and the village and the valley beyond it. And I must don the crown, because one thing is still true, even if I must face it alone.
???? ?? ???????????, ??? ????? ???? ???.

REVIEW:It’s here, it’s hot, it’s confusing and crazy, it’s odd and tantalizing, it’s everything you want and more that you don’t expect. Door of Bruises is the fourth installment in the Thornchapel series by Sierra Simone.

Door of Bruises continues off where book three ended, the door is open and our group of misfits have all left the manor, except Auden and Rebecca. Now for those readers who have not read the first three books, I implore you to read the previous books first. The Thornchapel series is so much more than physical lust that does come through the story, its also the complex relationships between these six individuals. Each person brings something new to the group, each needing something from the other, some connecting more with others, but still each member of this rag-tag family needs the other. They are connected by more than just their parents, secrets, pain, love and now, whatever Thornchapel has in store for them.

This is a different type of review I would leave, but the series has been a once in a lifetime read for sure. There are some books that change a reader, and then others, like this one, that change the way a reader will think. This did that for me. It’s a eye opening, phenomenal read, that I most definitely recommend to all my friends!

ABOUT THE BOOK: release Date November 24, 2020

Paige Asher likes her men the way she likes her coffee: hot, slightly sweet, and only to-go.

The hot friend-of-a-friend she had a scorching single night with was just about perfect — tall, rugged, with a sexy drawl… and on the road out of town by six a.m. the next morning. Long before her mom could start picking out wedding flowers.

But now she can’t stop thinking about the Louisiana boy. His texts make her smile and she suddenly has a craving for gumbo all the time… hot and spicy and far from home.

Mitch Landry had no idea Iowa would be so hospitable to a visitor. He knew the Midwest had a reputation for friendliness but his welcome gift — a sassy, sweet blond who is as no-strings-attached as he is — was a dream come true six months ago.

But why is he still texting her? And why did he jump at the chance to come back to Iowa? And why is he so annoyed by her phobia to commitment this time? And why is he pretty sure leaving Paige this time is going to be one of the hardest things he’s ever done?

Damn, is this what falling in love feels like?

Oh, fu… fudge.

HOT CAKES can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Six months earlier Paige and Mitch spent one glorious night together but our heroine walked away the next morning without any promises for the future. Fast forward to present day wherein New Orleans born Mitch Landry walks into Paige’s Iowan yoga studio in the hopes of a second chance or at the very least a second glorious night together but Paige doesn’t do relationships or believe in happily ever afters, and battles between head and heart when her nosey family begins to circle like a vulture on roadkill. In an effort to keep the family at bay, Paige tells everyone Mitch is her cousin’s fiancé but in the ensuing aftermath, secrets are revealed, and Mitch hopes for something more.

OH, FUDGE is a quick read; a fun, sexy and fast paced novella that reveals some of the back ground between Mitch and Paige, as feisty Paige struggles with keeping her independence or wanting something more. “You’ll do anything I want?” he asked, his voice rough and his eyes hot.
“Definitely.”
“How hot is the fudge?”
Her eyes widened. “Hot. Too hot for smearing on body parts,” she said, reading his mind.
One side of his mouth curled. “Damn.”
“But,” she said, “I have some fudge we could heat up a little.”
“You have some already made?” he asked. “Why was I waiting for you to stir that up?”
“The fudge I’ve already got is for you.” She felt her cheeks get a little pink. She was shy about this? She was naked at the moment, and he’d done a lot of intimate things to her already, but admitting she’d made him fudge made her blush?
“You made me fudge?”
Dammit. He looked pleased by that. He was so going to get the wrong idea. Especially when she told him the whole story. She sighed. “Yeah. I made it around Christmas. I was going to mail it to you but then… I changed my mind.”
“You were going to send me fudge for Christmas?” he asked, his grin growing. He lifted a hand to her cheek.
“Yes. But then I realized that you’d think it meant I liked you and was thinking about you,” she said with an eye roll.
“Oh, sweetheart,” he said, his voice dropping and that drawl becoming more pronounced. “I know you like me and have been thinking of me.”
He was cocky. A little. Not overly. Not obnoxiously. But enough to be… hot. She did like confident men. “Well, you can not think that the fact that it’s chipotle fudge means anything,” she said.
His grin definitely grew with that. “You made me spicy fudge?”
“Spicy and sweet go together really well.”
He nodded, his grin turning into an almost smirk. “They sure do.”
“But it was just something I wanted to try, and since you eat all that crazy spicy food I thought you were someone I could send it to.”
“But then you realized that I’d think it meant you liked me.”
She blew out a breath. “Yeah.”
“Do you normally make chipotle fudge?”
“No.”
“Huh.”
“You’re thinking it, aren’t you?”
“That you like me? Yeah, I’m thinking it.”

REVIEW: DON’T LOOK is the first instalment in Alexandra Ivy’s contemporary, adult PIKE, WISCONSIN romantic, suspense, thriller series focusing on the people of Pike, Wisconsin.

Told from several third person perspectives DON’T LOOK follows businessman Kir Jansen, on his return to his hometown of Pike Wisconsin in the aftermath of his father’s death. As the former Sheriff, Rudolph Jansen was a well-respected man but a gun shot to the head left Rudolph a shadow of his former self leading to a life of heavy drinking. The possibility of serial killer in Pike Wisconsin had Rudolph struggling to get anyone to believe but a drunk with fantastic stories about threatening letters and motive, is still a drunk.

Kir Jansen knew about the mysterious letters his father received but it wasn’t until Kir returned to Pike Wisconsin did the killer begin to up his body count. Meeting local veterinarian and former school mate Dr. Lynne Gale stirred something deep within our story line hero but a list of potential victims included the woman with whom Kir would fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Kir and Lynne, as the couple begin an investigation of their own when local law enforcement failed to do what needed to be done.

DON’T LOOK is a story of betrayal and revenge; of desperation, murder, obsession and hate. Lynne and Kir began to piece together a list of possible motives, motives that would connect back a number of years. As the body count increases, our couple become suspect, as they followed the cues that the new sheriff ignored. The premise is intriguing; the romance is passionate; the $ex scenes are mostly implied; the characters are colorful, and energetic but saying that I struggled with the couple’s ability to gather information when law enforcement claimed they had no leads or ideas. The story line is edgy and dramatic but you will have to suspend reality as Kir and Lynne solve a cast that no one else was able

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 24, 2020

Dragon shifter Hadrian has always thought a sweet mortal maiden would suit him best, so is astonished when the spark of the firestorm leads him to a warrior Swan Maiden—and one intent upon killing him. He doesn’t care if the firestorm is faked or not—the spark has led him to a fierce and alluring woman who claims his heart immediately. Rania hates dragons above all other creatures and would willingly sacrifice the Pyr to Maeve—even though Hadrian and his firestorm are almost powerful enough to make her forget her own convictions. Hadrian needs her help and promises to make the effort worth her while—Rania finds his arguments persuasive but fears she’s been beguiled by his potent touch? When Maeve catches them together in the realm of the Dark Fae, only trust and teamwork can see them both saved. Will Rania believe in their shared destiny and the promise of the firestorm in time?

••••••

REVIEW:DRAGON’S MATE is the fourth instalment in Deborah Cooke’s contemporary, adult DRAGONFATE paranormal, romance series focusing on the DragonFate Warriors –a spin off from the author’s Dragonfire series. This is blacksmith and dragon shifter Hadrian, and Swan Maiden/assassin Rania Hingston’s story line. DRAGON’S MATE can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is a continuing premise throughout. Several characters from the Dragonfire series cross over for familiarity and cohesion.

SOME BACKGROUND: In the aftermath of the Dragon’s Tail War wherein the Pyr defeated the Slayers , the dragons now face a new foe in the guise of Maeve, the Dark Queen of the Fae. Maeve believes shifters and vampires, any species that is half-human, half-mythological creature are abominations, impure creatures, tainted beings, and therefore must be annihilated and destroyed leaving only the Fae and human beings to walk the earth.

Told from several third person perspectives following several intersecting paths, using present day and stories from the past DRAGON’S MATE follows Swan maiden and assassin Rania Hingston as she is tasked with killing thirteen ‘Others’ in an effort to release her brothers from their magick-induced prison. Maeve, the Dark Queen of the Fae, has trapped Rania’s brothers in their swan-shifted state, and Rania has made a deal with Maeve to free her brothers, for a price-thirteen lives for thirteen lives. Rania’s final target is a member of the Pyr, an ancient dragon shifter but our heroine has no idea that the dragon she has chosen is actually her fated ‘dragonfire’ mate. Enter emerald and silver dragon Hadrian, the man with whom Rania will fall in love. What ensues is the acrimonious and tempestuous relationship between Rania and Hadrian, as our hero struggles to prove to Rania that they are destined for all eternity while the shifter world around them begins to implode. Maeve is determined to destroy all of the abominations she deems beneath the Fae, and in doing so wipes out entire packs and covens in her need for power and control.

DRAGON’S MATE is an infinitely detailed and complex story that follows several plotlines all converging in an effort to destroy the Dark Queen of the Fae. Magically enhanced by the woman she believed was much more than a mother-type figure, Rania has gone on a centuries long killing spree in an effort to free her brothers from Maeve’s magical control but our heroine will soon discover that Maeve’s promises are not worth anything, and Rania’s killing spree has done nothing but bring guilt and grief to those that survived.

Deborah Cooke reveals our couples’ backstories, their family histories, losses and loves, setting a foundation for what happened and why. Both Hadrian and Rania’s families had been cursed by magick, and with it the loss of families and friendships for an eternity ensued. The detailed premise is heart breaking, engrossing, dramatic and intense; the characters are numerous, energetic, and impassioned; the romance is seductive and edgy. Deborah Cooke closes one series ARC but leaves the story line open ended-I am not sure what the author has planned for the numerous characters whose stories have yet to be told.

Keras (Guardians of Hades 7) by Felicity Heaton-dual review

Keras (Guardians of Hades 7) by Felicity Heaton-dual review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo / Google Play

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 24, 2020

Keras is darkness. It sustains him. It strengthens him. It offers relief from the pain born of his feelings for a goddess of Olympus, a bewitching and beautiful female placed beyond his reach—one who stole his heart and broke it. Centuries of enduring that pain have left him tired, and the temptation to surrender control to that side of himself grows each day.

Even when he knows that darkness will destroy him.

Enyo has regrets. Hundreds of them. But the one that has plagued her for centuries, is the moment that shattered her friendship with the firstborn of Hades and her own heart with it—a moment that changed her and set her on a new path. With the battle between the sons of Hades and the daemons turning more dangerous for the man she loves, she can no longer stand on the side lines.

It’s time for this goddess of war risk everything to fight for what she wants.

As the battle to save the Underworld and the mortal realm rages to dangerous new heights, will Keras be consumed by the darkness or will Enyo be the light that saves him?

••••••

Sandy’s review: KERAS is the seventh instalment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult THE GUARDIANS OF HADES paranormal/fantasy romance series loosely based in Greek mythology, focusing on seven brothers- the sons of Hades and Persephone -banished to Earth to guard the gates to the Underworld. This is Prince of the Underworld and Lord of Darkness Keras, and goddess of war Enyo’s story line. KERAS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as the brothers struggle against an unknown enemy to keep the human world and the Underworld from colliding.

NOTE: The Guardians of Hades series is Felicity Heaton’s interpretation of, and does not follow, the actual Greek mythological family tree or events.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line content, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Keras and Enyo) KERAS follows the sons of Hades and Persephone as they continue to battle the daemons and otherworldly figures at the two remaining gates to the Underworld but with each subsequent closure of the previous gates, the brother assigned to the specific gate sacrificed his blood, a sacrifice wherein the blood is often ‘stolen’ in an effort to control the brothers from afar. Keras, as the Lord of Darkness struggles to keep the darkness under control, a growing darkness he, his brothers and his mother, blame on the loss of the only woman he has ever loved, but Keras’ battle with the darkness reveals a battle of another kind, an all too human battle with addiction and drugs. With a war on the horizon between the brothers and the daemons of the Underworld, the goddess of war Enyo believes it is time to seek out Keras, and offer her help, but in doing so sets a series of events into motion pushing Keras into a downward spiral of abuse and hatred aimed at our story line heroine. As the brothers prepare for war, Keras must come to terms with his addiction, and the darkness he has directed at the woman he loves.

KERAS is an action packed, fast paced story of family, betrayal, vengeance and war; a story about a fight for power and control; a tale about addiction, abuse, acceptance and blame. Felicity Heaton pulls the reader into an intense and dramatic story wherein our heroine must face the fall-out of two hundred years of heart break and regret. With the approach of war, Enyo’s presence is needed, for as the goddess of war, she is capable of so much more.

There is a large ensemble cast of creatures, gods and goddess from Greek mythology including Nyx and Thanatos, Enyo’s brother and god of war Ares; all of Keras’ brothers and their significant others as well as their parents Persephone and Hades. Enyo is a strong, female heroine who has been secluded from the man that she loves; Keras is a prince of the Underworld but struggles to control the darkness within. Thanatos’ story line is next.

There are some light moments interspersed throughout the story line- everything isn’t always heart breaking and dark. We are witness to the next generation of gods and goddess entering the world, as well as the rebuilding romance and relationship between our leading couple.

The story line premise is difficult at times as Keras loses control and attacks the woman he loves but saying that, our heroine purposely places herself in the direct line of fire in an effort to ‘lull’ Keras into a fight meant to ease the darkness and pain. As a fantasy story line, the heroine is immortal, a goddess with the ability to heal from the life-threatening wounds but for some readers, Keras’ actions may hit too close to home.

Julie’s review: Oh I’m so happy to have read this book, and so sad the series is coming to an end….. but wait, the author has added another book or two to this series. Hooray!!

This series has been an absolute joy to read. The emotions it pulls out of you range from sadness to utter joy.

Keras is the last of the brothers to have his story told.
He’s the eldest of Hades sons, and has had to shoulder a lot of responsibilities, the daily caring and looking after his brothers. He reluctantly took on the role of leader. It’s what his father expected of him, and Keras would never let his father down.
He’s an emotionless god, they slow him down, and slowly he’s been closing himself off from his brothers. Not a good thing to do!
The continual battle to keep the gates to Hades realm safe, watching his brothers battle their own personal demons and not to be able to fix it. And then as one by one watching his brothers fall in love! He’s not jealous, he’s not sad, he’s not anything but numb!!

Enyo is the goddess of War, her brother Ares (yes, Hades son was named after that god) has always kept her safe, but that safety comes at a price! Being kept away from the only man she’s ever loved has caused her so much pain! But no more, she’s going to join the battle and not even her brother can tell her what to do…..

There is history between the main characters, and in the previous books we didn’t get a lot of information on them. But whenever her name was mentioned, Keras would storm away! And when she would visit his brothers and not him, that had to have hurt. So it’s great we finally get more on the pair. And it’s a great story of unrequited love, moments missed, opportunities that they let slip them by. Each believing they were only friends and nothing more!

We also get to find out what’s in the box he always carries with him. And it’s a big factor in this story…….

It’s a story of two lovers kept apart. Both yearning for one another, but both afraid to let anyone in.
It’s a story of addiction, and the ongoing battle to win.

It’s a story of good possibly triumphing over evil, but not without a price!!

As always the story is gripping, the emotions will have you on the edge of your seat. I could not put this book down.
The fight scenes as always are bloody and ferocious, intense and humorous in places. The interaction between the brothers is on point as usual, the witty one liners and quick comebacks are what make this book enjoyable.

Keras has been a dark horse from the very first book, giving just enough away to keep you hooked. And when he finally gets his story, it just about break your heart.

Enyo is a great character, very strong, but had so much taken from her. Eons of being put in her place had made her second guess herself.

But the one thing that didn’t change over the centuries……
Their love for one another….

But will love be enough to overcome the evil that is coming their way? The battle ahead is suddenly thrust upon them and allies quickly turn on one another!! Who can the brothers trust?

And can Keras overcome his darkness? Can he tell his goddess that she’s the only one in his heart? And can Enyo finally put her happiness before her brothers wants?

If you’ve picked up Keras without reading the previous books (why?) then you may feel a little behind (but you can read it) but if you’ve read the other books, then your in fkr a bumpy ride……

So when her scoundrel of a husband mysteriously returns, years later, hoping to set things right, Lily guards her heart. But curse the man for being just as breathlessly handsome as the day she last saw him.

Adam Darling never meant to leave his innocent, beautiful wife, but if he hadn’t, he would’ve been sent to prison and Lily’s good reputation destroyed. He can’t blame her for hating him, and now that he’s back, he’ll do whatever he must to prove he never stopped loving her, even if it takes the rest of his life.

But when Lily is blackmailed by someone from their past, she wonders if the reason Adam abandoned her is more complex than a simple con. To find the truth, though, she’ll need to do the impossible—trust him—and with the attraction simmering between them hotter than ever, getting too close could get her burned…

Review:

The Price of Temptation is a historical romance by Harmony Williams.  Adam Darling is newly married to his wife Lily. When someone from his past shows up and forces him to betray his wife by abandoning her and stealing her dowry.  Shortly after her husband betrays her she loses her father. This leaves her in debt and the threat of debtors prison looming.

That is until four years later when her husband suddenly reappears in town. Adam refuses at first to tell his wife where he has been and what he has been up to?  And Lily has a hard time wanting to trust him again. But with a blackmailer after Lily, Adam stays and decides to try and help her and her family. But will Lily be able to trust him again? And can they work together to take down the one person who threatens the very lives?

The characters were deeply in love until Adam is basically torn from his wife Lily. And he will do anything to protect his wife. But will Lily ever be able to trust him again? Will their love be able to overcome their pasts?

Highly enjoyable book, beautifully written.

Review:

Once Upon a Mail Order Bride by Linda Broday is the 4th and final book in her wonderful Outlaw Mail Order Brides series. I love this series, as Broday never fails to make us fall in love the couples in this western historical romance.   Refresher: The story takes place in Hope’s Crossing, which is a town run by outlaws, who have started a clean slate on their lives, with building a family and changing their lives for the better.

Ridge Steele, is an ex preacher, and because of the crime he did not commit, is one of the original outlaws who has built Hope Crossings. Ridge has been writing letters to a mail order bride, and is waiting impatiently for her arrival to marry him.

Adeline (Addie) Jancy, has recently gotten out of a three-year prison term, and with the help of Luke and his wife, they manage get her away from men who are determined to kidnap her and bring her back to her evil father; who was the one who had her imprisoned.  Addie was in solitary confinement all those years, and she cannot speak due to the trauma; only using the written word to express herself.

When she meets Ridge, she finds him kind and patient, helping her take her time to learn how to speak again.  They immediately get married, and start their life together. Addie despite her inability to talk, wins over all the townsfolks, especially with her cooking.  In a short time, she learns more about the hardship Ridge has gone through and begins to fall hard for him, as he does with her.

They both have major issues; Ridge always on the lookout for those looking for him, even if he is innocent; and Addie running from her fanatical deranged father, who plans to kill her.  Both Addie and Ridge were great together, both strong, protective and loyal, and it was such a pleasure to watch them become closer.  When Ridge is in danger, with someone ready to attack him, Addie yells out a warning, bringing back her voice.

What follows is an exciting story line, with nonstop action, heart stopping dangerous situations and a sweet romance between two people with flawed pasts that will catch up with them.  Things do get desperate when Addie’s nightmare comes true, and Ridge do anything to find her and fight to save her, also bringing forth her mother, who was also under the father’s evil control.

Ridge and Addie were so good together, and you couldn’t help loving them, as they were the best couple yet. I loved how they had young Bodie stay with them, and he being loyal to them.  It was great to see all the main characters from the previous books. Since this is the final book, I must say Broday did such a great job bringing us this outlaw town, with fantastic couples and secondary characters, as well as giving us beautiful heartwarming romances, with some dangerous elements.

Linda Broday once again gives us another wonderful addition to this fabulous western historical series.  Once Upon a Mail Order Bride was a perfect conclusion to this series.  If you enjoy western historical romances, I suggest you read this series, and Linda Broday’s writing is superb.
