When Hayden was a child, she lost her cat. Adults told her the cat ran away, but she knew the truth. The mirror had taken her. She knew because the mirror had given her a glimpse of an alternate world and had nearly pulled her in, so she was certain the cat had suffered that fate.

Twenty years later Hayden discovers the secret of the mirror when she is thrust into it. She learns of a world she never knew existed, and a family she never knew she had. But danger brought her here, and it followed her. Now, Hayden is on a mission to remove the threat, so that she can begin her magical, meaningful new life in this enchanted world.

Review:

Falling into Magic by Elizabeth Pantley is the 1st book in her new Destiny Falls Mystery & Magic series. We meet our heroine, Hayden when she was a child, who was afraid of a large mirror in her room.  Seems her cat disappeared, and though her family said the cat must have escaped outside, Hayden was sure the cat escaped through the mirror.

Twenty years later, Hayden, who lives with her grandmother, great grandmother and works at home with her best friend, Lulu, and her cat, Sassy. While walking outside with her cat, a man comes rushing at her, and shoves her through a hole. When Hayden wakes up, she sees a young man, who turns out to be the brother she never knew.  She learns she is in an alternate and somewhat magical world, Destiny Falls, and her brother, Axel helps to bring her to the beautiful mansion his family lives in.

Hayden gets to meet all the members of the Caldwell family, and is greeted by the father she never knew.  Her father left Destiny Falls for a different life, fell in love, married and had two children.  After Hayden’s birth, he and his young son, Axel were pulled back into Destiny Falls, with no way to return. Hayden begins to learn how magical Destiny Falls is, especially when her cat (now called Latifa) can talk to her telepathically.  There conversations between each other was fun and cute.

Though she is enjoying her time meeting all members of her family, she sends emails to her family back home explaining she is on a work assignment in Denmark.  In a short time, Hayden will notice some strange happenings, including seeing the man who had pushed her into that hole, and realizes someone is behind the dangerous attempts on her. She is determined to investigate who is the culprit, which puts her own life in danger.

Falling into Magic is a lighthearted mystery, in a magical and enchanted realm.  To say too much more would be spoilers; there is a satisfying conclusion, but somethings were left open.   It was a fun story, and I adored Latifa, who was a blast; and enjoyed many of the secondary characters created by Pantley.  I look forward to more of what Elizabeth Pantley has in store for us in future books.

••••••••

REVIEW: VEREK is the third instalment in the contemporary, adult SAVAGE KINGS MC: South Carolina erotic, MC romance series focusing on the Savage Kings MC. This is Verek Rhodes, and Tessa Singleton’s story line. VEREK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: Due to the graphic nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Verek and Tessa) VEREK follows in the aftermath of the kidnapping and brutal assault against our story line heroine, a kidnapping that occurred outside of the Fluid Night Club owned by the Savage Kings MC. Following her rescue and recovery, Verek is determined to seek revenge on behalf of our heroine, revenge that will go against the orders of the MC. What ensues is the search and take down of the men responsible for breaking our story line heroine; the building romance and relationship between Verek and Tessa; and the potential fall-out as Verek is sanctioned for avenging the woman with whom he will fall in love.

Verek Rhodes holds himself responsible for the attack against Tessa Singleton, and as such, is desperate to avenge the woman who has stolen his heart but seeking revenge comes at a cost. Tessa struggles in the aftermath of the violent attack, an attack that has left her broken with nightmares and memories of what happened and why. Upon her rescue, Tessa found herself recovering with Roman and Charlotte, the President of the MC, but a recovery in which Tessa had very little control about the direction of her life.

The relationship between Verek and Tessa is one of immediate attraction but Tessa was weeks away from getting married to another man. Verek has a reputation as a man-whore, and in this, his past behavior is about to define his relationship with not only Tessa but the President and his wife. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters. We are reintroduced to the members of the Savage Kings MC: South Carolina: Roman and Charlotte (Roman #1); Winston and Zoe (Winston #2), Cannon, Conrad; prospects Lucas and Jake; as well as Tessa’s fiance Paul.

VEREK is a story of vengeance and retribution; punishment and protection; relationships and love. The premise is dark and dramatic; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic and intense. Another Savage King finds his happily ever after.

Rough & Tumble by Shae Connor – a Review

Rough & Tumble by Shae Connor – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple

Description:
My name’s Grant Clark, and I have managed to screw up my entire life. In triplicate.
Number one: I fell in love with my best friend.
Number two: I thought he was straight.
Number three: Because of number two, I didn’t make a move on number one. Until it was too late.

Or is it?

When I accidentally interrupt him with another guy—and he turns out to be the worst—well, I think it’s time I finally make a move.

Don’t you?

Review:

As a lover of M/M romance, I was very excited to adventure into Rough & Tumble by Shae Connor. While the book itself and its characters are good and the plot easy to keep up with, I was a little disappointed on the spice level.

From the cover and blurb, I thought this was going to be a slow burn, friends to lovers’ story, however it is not. Grant and Darryn are young, they are in college, but the amount of immature drama was really not needed. There is always a need for conflict in a story, but Rough & Tumble characters have little maturity or growth. There were some awesome supporting characters that I would love to have seen Grant grow with, as well as more compassion from Darryn. The issues and misunderstandings between Grant and Darryn go on way longer than they needed to and the actual romance part doesn’t come up until the book is practically over. This again felt like the author was dragging out unneeded conflict for as long as possible.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are some really good moments in Rough & Tumble, funny tidbits that give the readers a giggle and meaningful moments between friends. I think the story had a great message and it was a good book.

BANSHEE CRY (Blood Fae Chronicles #1) by Jen Katemi

BANSHEE CRY (Blood Fae Chronicles #1) by Jen Katemi

ebook only 99¢: Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo / Google Play

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 9, 2020

This banshee will do anything to save those she loves. Even climb into bed with her enemy.

A banshee without a voice is damn near useless, right?
I should know. I am one. At least, I’m half-banshee, and I’m guessing it’s my human half who failed my dad all those years ago, when the vamps arrived and tore him apart.
I tried to call a warning, to sing of death in the way of my kind.
But no one heard my broken four-year-old voice.

Now all these years later, there’s a vamp on my front doorstep, begging for help.
And despite the fact that he’s the hottest thing I’ve ever laid eyes on and his blood sings to mine in a way I’ve never experienced, I remember the past.
And all I want to do is stake him. Right through his cold, dead heart.

But he’s asking for my assistance in ridding the world of a supernatural curse.
If we don’t work together, this unsuspecting world and everything I know and love could be gone.
Destroyed, just like my father.
And this time, I’m not going to let that happen.
This time, I’ll do anything to be heard, even without a banshee cry.
This time, I’ll need to climb into bed with my enemy.

BANSHEE CRY is the first in Jen Katemi’s brand-new BLOOD FAE CHRONICLES paranormal romance series. Each book features faeries, humans, vampires, shifters, witches and other creatures of the supernatural realm. The series is set in a world full of magical realism and steamy desire, and each story delivers it’s own happy-ever-after ending. The series is best read in order.

••••••••

REVIEW: BANSHEE CRY is the first instalment in Jen Katemi’s contemporary, adult BLOOD FAE CHRONICLES erotic, paranormal romance series. This is twenty-nine year old, half-Fae/ half-human banshee Aleachiarsiwella aka Aleah, and two-hundred and eight six year old, vampire Luc Durand’s story line.

NOTE: A banshee is part of Irish mythology; a fae or sprite whose keening wail warns of impending death.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Aleah and Luc) BANSHEE CRY follows in the aftermath of the appearance of an injured vampire at Aleah’s front door. Knowing that, years before, vampires had killed her beloved father, Aleah is reluctant to offer help but something about Luc Durand stirs deep within our story line heroine. Luc Durand is a member of the supernatural police force, and as such is searching for a group of rogue ‘supes’ who are targeting both humans and supernaturals alike. An attack against her neighbors and friends finds Aleah on the defensive but it is the appearance and aid of a surprising foe that reveals more abut Aleah’s past than she could have ever imagined. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Aleah and Luc, and the potential fall-out as Aleah is targeted for who and what she is.

Approximately twenty five years earlier, vampires had attacked and killed the only parent she ever knew, and in this, our heroine is cautious and hesitant about helping the injured vampire. With little knowledge about her mother or her own abilities as a member of the Fae, Aleah battles between head and heart, and the less than perfect powers of her Banshee wail.

Luc Durand is a vampire who lost his maker years before. As a member of the supernatural police force it is Luc’s duty to hunt down the rogue supernaturals who are targeting and destroying so many lives.

The relationship between Aleah and Luc begins acrimoniously as Aleah continues to struggle with the death of her father, at the hands of a supernatural being. Aleah’s attraction to Luc is measured equally by Luc’s attraction to Leah but it is the scent of her blood that pushes Luc to want to claim Aleah as his own. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Renna and Tarrien, two members of the Winter Court Fae, as well as Aleah’s friend Laura. Tarrien and Indigo’s story is next in Banshee Song.

BANSHEE CRY is a fast paced, imaginative and spicy story; a dramatic and intense tale that reveals some of the background and history that have led our couple to the here and now.

Deception (Dark Desires:Origins 2) by Nina Croft-a review

DECEPTION (Dark Desires Origins #2) by Nina Croft

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / KOBO / Chapters Indigo / Google Play

RELEASE DATE: November 23, 2020

Brave new world or the same old crap?

Warlock Milo Velazquez has always dreamed of a day when “monsters” like him don’t have to hide in the shadows. Now, on a planet far from Earth, he’s hoping the old prejudices have been left behind. Though from what he’s seen so far—not a chance.

Their new leader could make life a living hell for Milo and the other immortals illegally transported across the galaxy. Under cover, he scopes out the threat, but he never expected to find a beautiful woman locked in a cell underground. He should ignore her and focus on his mission, but instead he sets her free.

Milo has met all kinds, paranormal creatures and humans, in his centuries of life, but Destiny is like nothing he’s ever encountered before. She’s flawless, and strangely naïve, though she can spout off facts like a walking encyclopedia. He isn’t sure who—or what—she is, or why someone so innocent would be a prisoner.

All he knows is Destiny is different…and finding out why could be their only hope for survival.

•••••••

REVIEWDECEPTION is the second instalment in Nina Croft’s sci-fi, DARK DESIRES: ORIGINS paranormal/ fantasy romance series. This is Warlock Milo Velazquez, and Destiny’s story line. DECEPTION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. DECEPTION and the Dark Desires : Origins is a prequel series, set five hundred to a thousand years earlier, to the author’s DARK DESIRES series.

SOME BACKGROUND: One thousand years earlier Earth was dying, and one hundred and twenty thousand of Earth’s Chosen had set off in search of a new planet able to sustain human life. Fast forward five centuries wherein the seven surviving space ships and their crews find themselves following a self-declared profit and leader, and the formation of the Church of Everlasting Life. These are their stories.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Milo and Destiny) DECEPTION follows Warlock Milo Velazquez, and the crew of the Trakis Two as they are called to a meeting where the goal of the mission is about to be changed. Milo, along with Wolf shifter Dylan, have stepped in to represent the Trakis Two, a space ship manned by a crew of supernaturals, supernaturals considered to be abominations and against the law of God. But all is not well on the planet’s surface as Milo and Dylan will soon discover when an underground armament of nuclear weapons threatens the lives of thousands of people, and an intriguing young woman crosses paths with our hero. Enter Destiny. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Milo and Destiny, and the potential fall-out as Destiny’s future is about to be revealed, and the crew of the Trakis Two are targeted for who they are, and their interference in the formation of a brand new Order.

Milo Velazquez is a warlock-the product of a demon/wizard breeding and as such is considered an abomination for his use of magic and power.Meeting Destiny, a young woman whose naïveté borders on innocence and childlike, but a woman who is quick to learn about life and everything it has to offer, gives Milo pause but our hero discovers there is more to the mission, a mission that is no longer focused on reestablishing a planet for Earth’s Chosen but a planet ruled and controlled by a chosen few.Destiny’s existence raises too many questions for the crew of the Trakis Two, an existence that shouldn’t be, yet an existence whose sole purpose is that of supply and demand.

The relationship between Milo and Destiny is one of immediate attraction yet there is something about our heroine that doesn’t quite fit into the objective of Earth’s Chosen and the Church of Everlasting Life. Destiny was ‘born’ while everyone else was in cryo- hibernation, and awoke to find herself without direction or purpose. Curious as the reality of her new-waking world, our heroine finds herself confined to a cell until a stranger’s visit affords Destiny the opportunity of freedom. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text but I have to shake my head at the need for $ex when an entire army is on the hunt for our story line couple.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including wolf shifter Dylan, and Trakis Two captain vampire Rico; geneticist Elvira; self-proclaimed leader Luther Kinross, and Silas Wynch.

DECEPTION is a story of secrets and lies, deception and betrayal; friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is edgy, engaging and captivating; the romance is passionate; the characters are colorful , energetic, and charismatic.
