ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 26, 2021

Unswerving: Angus Force is determined to hunt down the serial killer he’d once shot dead–or so he thought. But an anonymous source reports that Lassiter is alive. Force hasn’t slept since, knowing it’s only a matter of time before “the Surgeon” strikes again. And soon, a body is found, bearing Lassiter’s same maniacal MO. It’s just the beginning of a murderous trail blazing through DC and Virginia, right to Force’s backyard…

Unstoppable: Nari Zhang is the shrink for the ragtag Deep Ops Unit, though she isn’t Force’s shrink–which is a very good thing. Because once they’re thrown together on the case, their attraction is explosive and irresistible. They’ll just have to fight that much harder to keep the heat between them from flaming out of control. But things are about to become far more challenging, and deadly, than they could have imagined…

Unhinged: Once the killer catches a glimpse of Nari, she becomes his new obsession. She is now the focus point–for both Force and Lassiter–in a dangerous dance for survival.

REVIEW:DRIVEN is the fourth full length instalment in Rebecca Zanetti’s contemporary, adult DEEP OPS romantic suspense series focusing on the members of the Requisition Force, Deep Ops Team, a division of the Homeland Defense Department ( HDD) of the FBI. This is disgruntled and disgraced FBI and HDD agent Angus Force, and FBI psychologist Nari Zhang’s story. DRIVEN can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and history, as the hunt for a serial killer, once thought dead and buried, has been developing throughout the series.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Nari and Angus) DRIVEN brings into focus Angus Force’s obsession with proving, the serial killer nicknamed “the Surgeon”, is alive and well, taunting our hero at every opportunity. Years earlier, Angus was credited with taking down and killing serial killer Henry Wayne Lassiter but a series of murders, with similarities to the murders of Henry Wayne Lassiter, have piqued the obsession of our story line hero. As the murders take on a familiar pattern, and the victims bear a striking resemblance to the members of the Deep Ops Team, Nari and Angus become targets of a pathological mind, pulling Angus into an investigation where he becomes the number one suspect.

The relationship between Nari and Angus is one of immediate attraction but an attraction predicated upon close proximity, and a thinly veiled line between hate and lust. When the Requisition Force Team is disbanded, our couple remain working together, pushing them closer to love and their own happily ever after. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once, again, there is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including former police detective and undercover operative Malcolm West, and Pippa Smith, (Hidden #1), Special agent Raider Tanaka, and computer hacker Brigid Banaghan (Fallen 2) , US Navy SEAL Clarence Wolfe, and reporter Dana Mulberry (Broken 3); Angus’s quirky alcohol guzzling, lipstick eating German shepherd Roscoe, and Wolfe’s pocket sized kitten Kat: FBI administrator Opal Clemonte; Nari’s biological father Quan Zhang; former MI6 Agent Dr. Jethro Hanson; Special Agents Tom Rutherford, and Kurt Fields.

DRIVEN is a story of obsession, betrayal, treason and vengeance; family, friendships and relationships; power, infatuation, and murder. The premise is intriguing and enthralling; the romance is passionate; the characters are dynamic, compelling and tireless. DRIVEN is a wonderfully exciting addition to the Deep Ops series.

Told from first person perspective and third person texts between London and her girlfriends, HOW TO GET LUCKY follows the forbidden relationship between DJ Teddy Lockhart, and choreographer London Hollis. Teddy Lockhart works as the in house DJ for the all-male revue at the nightclub Edge but Teddy is hoping to expand on his business when he meets choreographer London Hollis, a dancer who stirs something deep within our story line hero but London is off limits as she is the boss’ sister. London is hoping Teddy is able to put together the music for an all-female dance routine to be featured at the Edge but working along side London is becoming more difficult as their sexual attraction is palpable and hot. Keeping their relationship on the down low, London and Teddy begin to fall for one another but Teddy has already experience the backlash of falling for the boss’ daughter, and refuses to again be placed in a similar position. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Teddy and London, and the potential fall-out as Teddy must come to a decision about his future-both professional and personal.

Teddy Lockhart knows the hardship of falling for someone at work, and in this he lost everything and had to start over. Teddy had no idea that London was his boss’ sister, and in this our hero struggles with his attraction to a woman that could cost him a job and his professional career. London Hollis is hoping Teddy Lockhart is the DJ to put together the music for her upcoming show but their attraction to one another may be a problem in that Teddy refuses to get involved with another workplace romance.

The relationship between Teddy and London is one of immediate attraction. Teddy notices London immediately, but knows that to work with London threatens his need to remain professional at work. There back and forth is flirty and fun-the $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced via text to London’s besties Olive and Emery; male dancers Sam, Carlos and Stanley, club owner Archer Hollis, as well as London’s roommates Nate and Stanley.

HOW TO GET LUCKY is a story of betrayal and relationships; family, acceptance and love. The premise is lively, enjoyable and entertaining; the romance is seductive and captivating; the characters are colorful, energetic and fun.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 18 , 2021

I am Zane Teague, feared by men and desired by women, and I was born into a life of luxury, riches, and crime. Destined to take my place at the head of the family, and to be the ruler of our world.

Finally, I was crowned King, with the criminal world at my feet,
I take what I want, when I want it.
My name is revered, but there is one thing that I desire – have to have – but will never attain, no matter how hard or dirty I fight.

Bailey Roach is the woman I crave, the woman who should be in my bed. She’s the queen I want to rule beside me, and I’ve loved her for most of my life. But she’s also my best friend’s sister and I swore to him that I would never touch her, never let the evil and chaos in my world taint hers.

Despite the promise I made, she is all I can think about, and the pain of wanting what I can’t have is now my greatest weakness. Her hold on me has the potential to turn my world upside down and destroy everything I’ve worked for. Worse than that, she has the power to rip my heart and soul apart… yet, I have to have her.

When need engulfs you, it can only lead to disruption.

REVIEW: DISRUPTION by Victoria Johns is a contemporary, adult, best friend’s sister, dark, erotic, romance focusing on Zane Teague, and Bailey Roach.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from first person perspective (Zane Teague) following several time lines DISRUPTION follows Zane Teague, as the new head of the criminal family his father once contolled, a family that, among other things, controls the import and export of sexual slaves but Zane’s life is about to spiral out of control as he struggles with his ongoing attraction to his best friend’s sister, a woman who pushes all of Zane Teague’s buttons.

Years earlier, Zane Teague made a promise to his best friend Jameson Roach that he would not hit on, or date his twin sister Bailey but the heart has never stopped wanting Bailey Roach, and in this Zane is about to discover that getting what he wants will disrupt his life in more ways than one. Five days together does not end well for our story line ‘anti-hero’, and in the aftermath Zane discovers Bailey has moved on with someone else. What ensues is the tempestuous relationship between Zane and Bailey, and the fall-out as Bailey’s choices begin to affect Zane, and any hope of a future together.

Zane Teague is the leader of a criminal organization that is deeply involved in the trafficking of women for $exual slavery. Zane is not a reformed anti-hero but a man who is willing to do anything to remain on top. Zane’s Achille’s heel is his best friend’s sister Bailey Roach but a promise made is a promise kept in the world of his criminal organization.

Bailey Roach knows that life with Zane Teague will always be dangerous and dark but Bailey’s attraction and need for Zane is equally matched by Zane’s need for our story line heroine. Provoking and inflaming their attraction and sexual desire, Zane and Bailey’s short lived liaison begins to build a wall from where there is no going back. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.

We are introduced to Bailey’s brother and Zane’s best friend Jameson Roach and his new bride Kerry: Zane’s right hand man Bishop, who will do anything for his boss; the woman who controls Zane’s human commodities in Hawaii Roxanne Elks, and her husband Graham; Bishop’s sister Bella; as well as Thorn Mottram, the man vying for our heroine’s heart.

DISRUPTION is a dark and gritty story line of betrayal, deception and obsession; power and control; hate and love; secrets and lies, obligation and pact. The premise is haunting, heart breaking and tragic; the romance is provocative and emotional; the characters are edgy, damaged, and impassioned.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 18, 2021

I made the mistake of falling for one of my brother’s friends.
As if that wasn’t stupid enough, I then declared my love to him.

Yeah, I know. Big mistake. Huge mistake.
But here I am with my rejected feelings, and Noah won’t even look at me. Whenever he has to talk to me, his words are blunt. Yet they cut deeper than any knife.

What’s a girl to do when the man she loves won’t give her the time of day?

Make herself irreplaceable in his life, of course.

Noah West
More handsome than all the rest.
I loved him from deep in my bones,
But then he found out
And became all curt
And trampled my heart in the dirt.

REVIEW:Callous Heir is the fifth book in The Heirs series by Michelle Heard.

This book is a continuation yet stand alone to the Trinity Academy Series.

We are now learning about The Heirs… the children of the couples from the Trinity Academy and The Enemies to Lovers Series.

A crossover of a crossover – per se.

Carla Reyes has been in love with Noah West since she was 15 years old and he was 20. She did the wrong thing and fell for her brother’s friend. When Carla finally got the courage to tell him he harshly rejected her. That is until things changed.

Carla is now 18 and is attending Trinity Academy. And must share a suite with Noah – now 23. At first Noah is very cold towards Carla but he slowly begins to see that she has grown up.

Noah begins to feel things that he never has felt before. Almost stoic in his emotions before, he comes into his own eventually.

Not going to lie – Noah annoyed me in the beginning, and not in a good way. I knew he would eventually come around and sway that decision but I wasn’t expecting him to change so quickly. He turned out to be my favorite Heir so far.

Carla was the perfect combination of sassy and sweet. She also had a resilience in waiting for Noah that I am not sure others could sustain. But once Noah begins to have feelings for Carla all bets are off.

The perfect quick one sitting read, no way to drag it out and slow things down as I wanted to know what was going to happen next at every page turn.

I fell hard and fast for Noah and his ways.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading the other books in this series.

Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner -a Review

Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner -a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Frankie Elkin is an average middle-aged woman, a recovering alcoholic with more regrets than belongings. But she spends her life doing what no one else will–searching for missing people the world has stopped looking for. When the police have given up, when the public no longer remembers, when the media has never paid attention, Frankie starts looking.

A new case brings her to Mattapan, a Boston neighborhood with a rough reputation. She is searching for Angelique Badeau, a Haitian teenager who vanished from her high school months earlier. Resistance from the Boston PD and the victim’s wary family tells Frankie she’s on her own–and she soon learns she’s asking questions someone doesn’t want answered. But Frankie will stop at nothing to discover the truth, even if it means the next person to go missing could be her.

Review:

Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner is her first standalone novel in about 20 years.  I have read and loved a few of Gardner’s series, as she is a master at creating wonderful thriller series.  In Before She Disappeared, Frankie Elkin is our heroine, and a different kind of lead character, that actually turned into a fantastic one.

Frankie is a recovering alcoholic, who is a loner, having suffered some tragedies in the past; now she devotes all of her time to finding missing people that are no longer being looked for. Frankie moves around a lot, picking her cases, never staying anywhere for a long period; as over the years, Frankie has found 14 missing people, but none of them found alive.  After finishing up a case, she decides to go to Boston, as another missing case intrigued her.

The missing girl, Angelique Badeau, a high school student, disappeared 11 months ago, and Frankie gets a job in a local bar, in the Haitian neighborhood of Mattapan.  She convinces the bar owner, that even though she is white, in this rough area, she will work 5 days a week, in exchange for renting the upstairs apartment. The fun part of her renting the room, is the other resident, who shares it; Piper the wild crazy cat. LOL In her off hours, she meets with resistance from the detective who was in charge of the case, as well the missing girl’s family, and others she meets along the way.  But in a short time, Frankie gains the respect from many of the local Haitian people; of course, there are dangerous people who do not want her to continue to investigate.

Frankie manages to convince Angelique’s aunt and brother to let her look around, and ask questions; which in time, the brother will be helpful.  She starts finding questionable clues that need answers, and Detective Lotham begins to trust her, and they made a great team. The chemistry between them became hot, though there was no future.   I really liked the bar owner, Stoney, the cook, Viv and some other people who befriended her; the brother was also a very good character. We also get to learn more about a tragedy from Frankie’s past, that gives her nightmares.

What follows is an exciting & intense mystery, where Frankie finds herself in some dangerous situations, with someone following her, even on occasion hearing gun shots. Another disappearance of a young student, changes the game, with Frankie and Lotham exploring why these girls have been kidnapped.  Will Frankie find Angelique?  Will she break the trend and find her alive?

Before She Disappeared was an amazing exciting, action-packed thriller, with many twists and turns that kept me unable to put the book down.  Once again, Lisa Gardner gives us a fabulous story, which though it is supposedly a standalone novel, can very well become a new series.  I suggest you read Before She Disappeared, which was so very well written by Lisa Gardner

Aftershock by Judy Melinek & T.J. Mitchell -a Review

Aftershock by Judy Melinek & T.J. Mitchell -a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
There’s a body crushed under a load of pipes on a San Francisco construction site, and medical examiner Dr. Jessie Teska is on call. So it’s her job to figure out who it is—and her headache when the autopsy reveals that the death is a homicide staged as an accident.

Jessie is hot on the murderer’s trail, then an earthquake sends her and her whole city reeling. When the dust clears, her case has fallen apart and an innocent man is being framed. Jessie knows she’s the only one who can prove it, and she races to piece together the truth—before it gets buried and brings her down in the rubble.

With Melinek and Mitchell’s trademark blend of propulsive prose, deft plotting and mordant humor, this rollicking new installment in the Jessie Teska Mystery series will shake you up and leave you rattled.

Review:

Aftershock by Judy Melinek and T.J. Mitchell is the 2nd book in their Jessie Teska series.  I did not read the first book in this series, but it did read well as a standalone.  Aftershock begins with Medical Examiner Jessie Teska, our heroine, called in the middle of the night to investigate a dead body at a construction site. The body lies under pipes that had dropped from a collapsed beam. Everyone assumes it was an accident, but Jessie notices signs of the body having been dragged, no blood on site, and other small things which dictated that this was staged. The police give her a hard time, as they prefer this being an accident, but Jessie is determined to prove this was murder.

There is also a romantic element to the story, as Jessie is in a relationship with someone, who resents all the time she spends trying to solve every case.  I really didn’t care too much for her boyfriend, especially since he refused her to meet his family.  This is part of the overall story, but in the background to the true storyline.

When an earthquake, hits Jessie suffers a head injury, but she pushes to get released, as she needs to examine the victim, as well as the other normal deaths that come in during the earthquake.  Jessie is a workaholic and when the detectives arrest one of men at the construction site, Jessie keeps investigating, as she feels this person is being framed.  Along the way, she does alienate some people, as per her discoveries that causes the police to be negative, as well as her boyfriend walking out.   But Jessie proves herself to be a great medical examiner, as well as her own detective work.

What follows is an exciting story, though I will note that I thought Jessie’s continual determination to prove who was the real culprit put her life in danger a few times, especially with her injuries.  It did not feel realistic.  The ending was a wild climax, holding my breath if Jessie would survive. It was sort of a surprise as to who, how and why?

Aftershock was a good mystery, and Jessie Teska was very good as the heroine, though I thought some things she continued to do border lined on believability. The story had covered a lot of areas, earthquake, murder, dysfunctional family, police/DA issues and intense situations.  Overall, Aftershock was well written by Judy Melinek and T.J. Mitchell.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 18,2021

The first time I met Hudson Rothschild was at a wedding. I’d received an unexpected invitation to one of the swankiest venues in the city.

Hudson was a groomsman and quite possibly the most gorgeous man I’d ever laid eyes on. He asked me to dance, and our chemistry was off the charts.

I knew it wasn’t a good idea to get involved with him, considering the wedding I was at. But our connection was intense, and I was having a great time.

Though the fun came to a screeching halt when Hudson figured out I wasn’t who I’d said I was. You see, that unexpected invitation I received? Well, it hadn’t actually been addressed to me—it was sent to my ex-roommate who’d bounced a check for two months’ rent and moved out in the middle of the night. I figured she owed me an expensive night out, but I guess, technically, I was crashing the wedding.

Once caught, I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. As I bolted for the door, I might’ve plucked a few bottles of expensive champagne off the tables I passed, all while the gorgeous, angry groomsman was hot on my tail.

Outside, I jumped into a taxi. My heart ricocheted against my ribs as we drove down the block—but at least I’d escaped unscathed.

Or so I thought.

Until I realized I’d left my cell phone behind at the table.

Take one guess who found it?

This is the crazy story of how Hudson Rothschild and I met. But trust me, it’s only the tip of the iceberg.

••••••

REVIEW:THE INVITATION by Vi Keeland is a stand alone, contemporary adult, erotic, romance story line focusing on businessman Hudson Rothschild, and perfumist Stella Bardot.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Hudson and Stella) THE INVITATION follows the building romance between businessman Hudson Rothschild, and perfumist Stella Bardot. A misdirected invitation finds our heroine, Stella Bardot, along with her best friend Fisher, crashing the swanky New York wedding of Olivia Rothschild and Mason Royce wherein Stella would meet businessman Hudson Rothschild, the man with whom she would fall in love but all is not well when Hudson discovers that Stella is an uninvited guest, posing as someone else, and the fall-out almost paralyzes our heroine’s future. Needing some start up for her own perfume company, Stella must face down Hudson Rothschild, and our hero wants nothing to do with our story line heroine. What ensues is the building professional, personal and romantic relationship between Hudson and Stella, and the potential fall-out as Hudson’s life is about to spiral out of control when his past reveals betrayal and deceit.

Hudson Rothschild is a single father who shares custody of his daughter with his former wife. Struggling with the failure of his marriage, Hudson battles between head and heart when it comes to Stella Bardot, in the face of her deception, secrets and lies but a successful launch of Stella’s perfume company finds our couple working towards their own happily ever after. Stella Bardot knows betrayal first hand having found her ex-fiance in a compromising position but it was not only her ex-fiance that destroyed her heart. Our heroine likes to collect journals and diaries, and in this, Stella lives the lives of the people, from the pages inside.

The relationship between Hudson and Stella begins as a lie, and struggles in the face of Stella’s deceit. A quick building professional relationship leads to a slow building romance but Hudson is about to face a betrayal that may affect their relationship going forward. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Hudson’s sister Olivia Rothschild, who is the catalyst pushing Stella towards a successful business launch. Fisher is Stella’s best friend and confident, and Jack is Hudson’s best friend is the VP of a large media conglomerate.

THE INVITATION is a story of betrayal and deceit; secrets and lies; business and pleasure; romance and love. The premise is imaginative, inviting, decadent and not without some twists and turns; the romance is spicy and sexy; the characters are sassy, flirty and spirited.

Review:

The Temple by M.A. Abraham is a novella that is part of the Sinners and Saints Anthology. Above is the list of authors participating in this Anthology and a brief description.  Since I read all of M.A. Abraham’s work, this review is only on her novella The Temple.  Brief description: Ele is a powerful goddess in her own right, so she doesn’t worry about her safety as her sisters think she should. She is beautiful in ways that catches the wrong type attention. In order to keep her safe, her sisters blackmail a god from another world to take Ele into his care.  Sagan is a warrior god on his planet and every bit as powerful as Ele. He is also the epitome of what every woman thinks a god should look like. Without seeing Ele, he promises to keep her safe and keep his distance. After seeing Ele, he doubts if he can keep his word.

At the start we meet Ele, our heroine, and her sisters, who fear their sister in law is planning on doing something bad to Ele.  Normally, Ele could handle herself, as she is one of the most powerful goddesses, but the sisters decide to make sure she is safe.   They call upon a warrior god, Sagan, to protect her and after being convinced, he takes Ele to his planet. Even though she is surprised, Ele knows why she is on this planet, and takes it upon herself to womanize the planet which is bare everywhere.  Slowly, Sagan finds himself attracted to her, and tries to win her over.

When Sagan goes away for awhile to handle his bad brother, he returns to find that his home, and his warriors have totally changed, due to Ele’s influence.  When his brother returns, he decides to make Ele his own, and the two battle it out.

What follows is a battle that will involve Sagan, his brother Chase, and their father, whom Ele saved.  Sagan manages to be a step ahead of Chase, but learns that the danger sits with the father. Will Sagan survive? What happens to Ele when she manages to escape and return home?  You will need to read this short story to find out.

I really enjoyed this quick read, and was happy with how the story concluded. M.A. Abraham once again gives us a fun story line, with great characters.
