Review:

To Love an Elven Lord by M.A. Abraham is a sweet romance novel between an Elven male and his modern day human mate, which is the start of a new series, To Love an Elf.  We meet Eniko, as she sits outside her house with her friend, Katherine,  watching her handsome hunk of an neighbor mowing the lawn outside. Eniko and her friend, are planning the wedding of her son and her friend’s daughter, and enjoying the sight in front of them.

At the wedding, her neighbor, Raith introduces his friend, Athian, who just arrived in town.  Eniko looks at both men, who have similar looks; tall, handsome, muscular and young;  Athian smiles and immediately befriends, Eniko.  In a short time, Eniko is surprised that Athian is paying attention to her, as he is very young and she is an older woman, having just married off her son.  Athian decides to help fix up Eniko’s house, fixing up many things that need enhancements, which brings their friendship closer.

What Eniko doesn’t know is that Athian is not who she thinks he is, as he is from another realm and is an Elf.  He has come here to purposely meet Eniko, because he recognizes that she is his lifemate.  As they become closer, Eniko tries to tell him she is too old for him, and does not want to go further.  Finally, Athian shows her what she looks like in his world, as they rarely age, and she would revert to the younger version of herself.

What follows is Eniko falling for Athain, and her friend Katherine, catches them kissing, causing an all out war between former friends.  Katherine’s vindictiveness brings home the newly wed children, who to Eniko’s surprise are on their side, especially after talking to Athain. Katherine becomes the enemy, but Eniko’s life will have a wonderful dream like happy ever after.

To Love an Elven Lord was a short quick sweet read, very well written by M.A. Abraham.

REVIEW: DARK PRINCE REIGNS is the first instalment in Ruby Carter’s contemporary, adult GIORDANO dark, erotic, Mafia, romance series focusing on head of the Giordano family thirty six year old, Matteo Giordano, and thirty year old, British accountant Talia Adams.

WARNING: Due to the graphic torture, and violent situations and scenarios, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Matteo and Talia) DARK PRINCE REIGNS follows thirty year old Talia Adams, and her three best friends as they celebrate our heroine’s thirtieth birthday with a trip to Italy, a trip in which all four friends end up as ‘guests’ of Mafia Don Matteo Giordano. Two accidental meetings between Talia and Matteo, results in Talia becoming a prisoner in a gilded cage but a prisoner none the less. In an effort to uncover the truth about her sexy captor Talia discovers that all is not right in the world of imports and exports. In the hopes of using the information discovered, Matteo goes on the offensive but in doing so brings Talia up close and personal with the Italian Mob. What ensues is the building but highly sexual relationship between Matteo and Talia, and the potential fall-out as Talia loses her heart to a man who refuses to accept anything beyond the present.

The relationship between Talia and Matteo begins as enemies when Matteo suspects Talia is not who she claims to be. Aggressive and unwilling to play the prisoner to a man whose heart is hardened to love and romance, Talia gives as good as she gets until she loses her own heart and begins to fall in love. The $ex scenes are aggressive, forceful, and impassioned not without some questions of consent.

We are introduced to Talia’s friends Maya, Albany and Jess; Matteo’s men Leo, Nico, Tomma and Enzo; his housekeeper Aldo, and cook Lorette, as well as several heads of the Giordano Clans. I am hoping the author has future plans for Leo, Nico, Tomma and Enzo’s stories.

DARK PRINCE REIGNS is a story of betrayal, deception and vengeance; power, force and control; family, relationships, secrets and love. The premise is dark, gritty, and graphic; the romance is fiery and hot blooded; the characters are broken, bruised, and passionate. DARK PRINCE REIGNS ends on cliff hanger-you have been warned.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 21, 2021

A Promise of Iron, book one in the Echoes of Illyria saga, tells the story of a young man born from hatred, eager to prove himself in a world tilted against him. In this world where iron is more precious than gold, three friends battle the evils of empire while unraveling the secrets of a forgotten past and a hidden foe.

The epic fantasy series features strong, complex characters with familiar motivations of greed, lust, and revenge, all delivered in a freshly crafted fantasy world. Themes of imperialism, racism, and sexism form the backdrop for a story as much about mystery and intrigue as it is of sword and sorcery. This blend of epic and dark fantasy should delight readers of multiple genres. If you liked The Name of the Wind and The Black Company, this one is for you.

REVIEW:This is something completely different to what I usually read. It starts with a woman in the future who has a journal of a life in the past…..

The year is 1272. The story focuses on a young man Faerin, his life is hard, he wants to become something better. But in a world that wants payment for everything, how will he ever rise to be something more?

Elizabeth makes an appearance several times in the book to remind us that we are being told a story.I like the fact you can have memories removed and stored (a little like Johnny Mneumonic) but there is something in the future that will have you wondering if it has some significance in the past!!

That was a really well thought out book, Elizabeth in the future, trying to read the journal that holds the story of Faerin and his past. Fight scenes? Yes there is, and they are pretty good. Romance? A little, but it’s not really that important here.

And in the future, Elizabeth is having her own issues. The book holds great interest to those who have been waiting to get their hands on it. So she has to discover the secrets before her biggest rival gets here. Because when he does she may lose the book!!

And when Faerin comes into a possession of an sword, he will do anything and everything in his power to retain and look after the sword. He has a couple of friends who he likes as brothers, but I wasn’t sure! If people will sell their souls for iron, then can he trust his friends? Iron we take it is a valuable commodity, people will kill to have it, in fact it’s more coveted than gold!! Why? There seems to be a story behind the reasons why iron is so wanted…..

Magic and mystery come together in a really great read. There is also a lot of going’s on in the background, there is double dealings, backstabbing and money that exchanges hands for information. Some parts get a little bogged down with too much detail, but there isn’t too much thank goodness. Politics and social views are a big thing as well.

The equality and sexism didn’t really worry me as such, if you put yourself in the time period, then women were a lower class, as were the common man. But I do love the class divides, it’s clear there is a hierarchy, it’s clear there are people who make money of the backs of the unfortunate, and they don’t hide that fact.

OH!!! It ends on a cliffhanger….. Do I want to know what happens next? I certainly do.
Pick it up, you won’t be disappointed.

The first words of “A Promise of Iron” are not the words that made it to print. This journey began a long time ago. It was 2006, and for the sake of this story, one can assume I had just finished an all-weekend marathon of the Lord of the Rings. I may have even been playing World of Warcraft, Elderscrolls, or dabbling in any of a half a dozen D&D iterations of the time. When I look back, I can’t honestly remember the spark, that moment of inspiration that told me to open a word document and begin writing.

“A darkness looms,” it said, that first pass at that first paper. There was prophecy in those words. As it turned out that darkness was not some unseen enemy, no grand villain bent on the destruction of the world… it was the story… and it was utter crap.

Before I continue, I think you need to understand something about me first. I am not an author. Not classically trained at any rate. At best, I am a sci-fi & fantasy enthusiast with the temerity to offer something of my own to stoke the fire. I don’t really belong here, not amongst you who are well educated and well informed. Yet I feel as if I do, partly from the welcome and reception received by my betters and partly from the slowly increasing confidence in my own abilities.

I wrote a book that does not suck. No one is more surprised than me. If you were to ask my lovely wife, she would fawn and extol my impressive list of virtues while rolling her eyes in a casual attempt to check my ever-growing ego. In truth, I’m here because of her.

Back to the story…

By the time I cobbled together a few hundred pages of that dreadful first pass, I had come to a simple conclusion— what I had just wasn’t any good. Family and friends may have told me otherwise, but I saw the truth within their ingratiating eyes. So I quit. I stopped writing. I stopped writing for years. I stopped writing, and no one stopped me from stopping. There were casual mentions, reminders that there was a task unfinished, but no spark, no divine influence urging me to continue.

Years passed and I grew up. I had setbacks and new beginnings. I also met my wife. We fell in love, got married, and had a baby. I had known hard work before, but having a newborn was a new kind of work. Working for those you love carries differently. You can push harder, run faster and lift longer than you would when working only for yourself.

But I am rambling…

The spark was there now, fanned to flame by the hands of those who knew me for the true worth of my salt. “Write,” they said, “finish what you started.”

So I did…

I wish I could say the writing road ahead was shorter than the one behind, but when you have to double back because you forgot your map, it’s easier to just pick a new path.

So I threw it all out. I changed the tone, the perspective, the themes. I wrote that new first draft in a fraction of the time it took to torture through the last one. When I was finished, I presented it to her. I was eager for feedback, praise, or a sobering dose of reality. When she told me how she loved it— I saw no lie within her eyes.

Thanks for reading.

Salt & ruin,

-Brandon

About That Night by Laura Brown – a Review

About That Night by Laura Brown – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / Book Depository

Description:
Izzy Fineberg can take on any challenge—and she’s had some big ones lately. After one fateful night with the hottest Deaf man she’d ever met, Izzy found she was pregnant with his child. And she never caught his name. She’s been doing the single mom thing for nine months now, and surely, nothing could be more challenging than that. But her first day at her new job, she meets her supervisor…and recognizes him immediately.

Nolan Holtzman never expected to see Izzy again, and now, she’s the new hire at the agency he works in. He’d think things were finally going his way for once, if not for the iron-clad ban on interoffice dating. He’ll have to keep his distance from her if he wants to keep his dream job helping the Deaf community. Much easier said than done when Izzy drops the bomb that she’s a single parent…of his son.

It’s the shock of his life, but that won’t stop him from stepping up to be a dad. So when Izzy is suddenly in need of a place to stay for a week, Nolan invites her and the baby to his home. But even as difficult as it is, keeping their little family a secret from their employer isn’t their biggest challenge ahead…

Review:

I quite enjoyed About that Night by Laura Brown.  It’s a fast read with a good flow that keeps the reader entertained from beginning to end.  I also like the fact that even though it’s a quick read, Ms. Brown doesn’t rush anything about her story between Izzy and Nolan.  She takes the time to give us enough backstory to understand how Izzy and Nolan came to know each other before meeting again. She also fills us in on parts of their past that are important to their current state.  All this important information helps to propel their adventure forward and what an adventure it is.

I thought both Izzy and Nolan were well written. They felt real and believable as characters, which helps us relate better to them creating a connection that keeps us wanting to read on and see just what will happen next. Their chemistry is there from the get go and it’s off the charts.  Whenever Nolan and Izzy were alone together the sexual tension between them just kept building until they finally combusted.

I will say, Ms. Brown definitely knows how to create that special chemistry between her couples and this time it just added to an already precarious adventure for Nolan and Izzy. It’s like I was sitting on pins and needles waiting for the rug to be pulled out from under them at work regarding their past meeting and winding up being parents to one very cute and adorable baby Archie.  For me I’d have to say Archie stole the story in every one of his scenes.  The descriptions of Izzy and Nolan’s separate interactions with Archie, then their combined interactions with him are just downright sweet, comical and adorable.  It was very easy to see these scenes in my minds eye and I couldn’t help but smile at all of them, and just want for all three of them to get their HEA.  Watching the 2 of them learn to be parents together and realize they have to put Archie first is very sweet, charming and comical at times.  As per my favourite scene; Nolan changing Archie for the first time and not knowing what can happen when you change a baby boy.  Needless to say poor Nolan got a little pee pee shower, LOL!!  Yes I was laughing out loud at that one.  Needless to say even though they have some bumps in the road to their HEA, both Izzy and Nolan realize they are better and stronger together then apart, not only as a couple but as parents too.  They wind up creating their own little family and they couldn’t be happier about it.

If you’re looking for a speedy read, with a feel good mood to it you need look no further then About that Night by Laura Brown.  You won’t be disappointed.

Until next time, happy reading everyone.

Olivia Dyer can’t wait to put the year behind her. Her father died, and the event hall she ran at her family’s distillery was destroyed. The cost to the business and her mental health more than she could ever afford to repay. Rebuilding both takes all her effort leaving little time for anything else. Except for a single night of fun with the hot hockey player who’s been watching her every move.

When a kitchen catastrophe throws Anders and Liv together, it ends with an evening neither of them can forget. It was only meant to be one night. But when Anders is unexpectedly traded to see out the rest of his contract with the Denver Rush, and his plans to leave as quickly as possible are disrupted by the sultry brunette who defines courage, their only option is to give to the attraction they feel for one another.

Yet with Liv stuck in the past and Anders firmly focused on the future, can they put aside their differences and allow themselves to find love in the present?

REVIEW:LOVE IN MOMENTS is the second instalment in Scarlett Cole’s contemporary, adult LOVE DISTILLED erotic, romance series focusing on the Dyer siblings. This is twenty-three year old, Swedish hockey player Anders ‘Iceberg’ Berg, and Dyer’s Gin Distillery co-owner Olivia Dyer’s story line. LOVE IN MOMENTS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Anders and Olivia) LOVE IN MOMENTS follows the building romance and relationship between Swedish hockey player Anders ‘Iceberg’ Berg, and Dyer’s Gin Distillery co-owner Olivia Dyer’s. A Christmas Eve wedding at Dyer’s Distillery in Denver, Colorado finds Anders Berg helping a flustered Olivia Dyer following a workplace accident that left our heroine short staffed. A one-night stand between our leading couple becomes awkward several weeks later when Anders Berg is traded to the Denver Rush bringing our hero up close and personal with the woman he hasn’t been able to get out of his head but Anders doesn’t do relationships, and Olivia is struggling with demons from her past. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Anders and Olivia, and the potential fall-out as Anders time in Denver comes with a possible expiry date.

Olivia Dyer has struggled since the storm that all but destroyed the family business, and in this the family is overly protective of our story line heroine. Meeting Anders Berg stirs something deep within our story line heroine but Anders has been honest, claims to not be interested in a permanent relationship but only a little fun on the side. Hoping his time with the Denver Rush expires at the end of the season, Anders isn’t prepared to fall head over heals for our story line heroine.

The relationship between Anders and Olivia begins as a one night stand wherein our hero never promises a happily ever after but a trade to the Denver Rush, the team in which his brother Karl also plays, forces Anders to face the woman that he could never forget. Olivia fell for Anders on Christmas Eve but never expected to come face to face with the man who is about to break her heart. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The colorful secondary and supporting characters including Ander’s brother Karl; Olivia’s sister Emerson and her husband Connor (Love in Numbers 1), their brother Jake, as well as several members of the Denver Rush.

LOVE IN MOMENTS is a story of family and relationships; betrayal and trust; miscommunication and misunderstanding; hope and love. The character driven premise is realistic and imaginative; the romance is spicy and spirited; the characters are edgy and intense.

She hadn’t felt this turned on in…hell, she’d never been this turned on. And, as a woman with an ex who had repeatedly told her that she was ‘hard to get off’, the news that she could get so close so quickly was new.
But as the thoughts hit her, she lost the feeling, lost the edge she was riding.
“What?” Anders said, suddenly.
“It’s nothing.” She tried to find where she was, trying to find her way back to the woman in the mirror about to ride out an orgasm thanks to the man behind her.
Anders slid his fingers from her underwear and outrageously slipped them into his mouth. “This,” he said. “It’s honesty. Your body can’t lie about being turned on.” He turned her to face him. “Answer me honestly, Älskling, where did you go?”
Her cheeks burned red with a heat she could feel, but for some reason, she felt the urge to be completely honest with Anders. If it all went south, she wouldn’t need to see him again anytime soon.
Embarrassment raged within her, but she had nothing to lose. She looked down at her shoes, but his erection obstructed her view, making her wish the ground would open up and swallow her whole. “I was right there with you, and then a voice from the past reminded me that I’m not the…I’m not the kind of…that I don’t…”
“Don’t what?”
“I don’t come easily. And I was so close, but…”
Anders stepped back and for a moment, she thought he was going to tell her to forget the night and send her home, but then he reached for her chin and tipped her face to look straight at him.
“Keep your eyes on me.” He let go of her chin and removed his jacket. He threw it over the chair near the door and then began to open the buttons on his shirt. “You know what defines a professional athlete? An Olympian?”
Olivia shook her head. “Being the best at the sport?” she offered weakly.
Anders shrugged. “Yes. But it is so much more than that. It requires massive reserves of physical stamina.” He pulled the shirt from his trousers and slipped his arms from the sleeves.
Holy-freaking-Christ-on-a-cracker. His body was Michelangelo-level perfection. Chiseled, muscular, a smattering of chest hair, and dear lord… his pants hung low on his waist. How could he even think they were on the same playing field? The orgasm she’d been close to disappeared completely.
She bit her lip as he reached for his belt and removed it in one swift move. “And on top of physical stamina, there is a mental toughness, a don’t-quit-no-matter-what-the-costs mentality. With those two, you can do anything.”
Anders unbuttoned his trousers, lowered the zipper, and then, after kicking off his shoes and socks, he let them and his underwear slide to the ground.
“Oh my gosh. Your leg.” She reached for him. The bruise spread across his hip and thigh.
Anders gripped her hand, holding it away from him. “It’s fine, Olivia. It doesn’t hurt. You know what does though?” His erection was hard and heavy, thick and long. “This.” He grasped it, and she felt the feelings of arousal begin to bubble to the surface again.
For a moment, he didn’t say another word. He just stood in front of her, lazily palming his cock. A slow back and forth motion. Then he approached her like a wolf about to eat its prey. “Tonight, sweet Olivia, I’m going to use every ounce of physical stamina and mental toughness to do whatever it takes to make you come and come often. I’m going to drive out of your mind the reckless words of a man who didn’t realize you were worth every effort, and that every orgasm you found at his hands was even more precious than if it had been given easily. You are a challenge that I am going to spend the rest of this night conquering.”

Scarlett Cole is a contemporary romance author that calls both Toronto, Canada and Manchester, England home. A born city dweller, she periodically quashes the urge to live in the country by hiking up a mountain to remind herself that living away from people would terrify the pants off her.

She believes everybody deserves their love story to be told and loves her heroes on the rough and rugged side…and usually tall (because she married one of those 6ft 6” men you read about in romance!). She’s an A-type personality and Scorpio star sign, so good luck getting her to do anything she doesn’t want to.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 9, 2021

The Montgomery Ink saga from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues with a steamy new series.

Years ago, Annabelle Montgomery married not for love but for a promise of hope. When she lost him weeks later, she told herself she never needed those sentiments again. Only when she discovers years later that her new neighbor is her late husband’s brother, Annabelle finds she can’t quite shake the emotions she’s long since buried.

Jacob Queen vowed he’d never set eyes on Annabelle again. When they’re forced into each other’s lives once more, they realize that no matter how far they run, no distance can keep them apart forever. More than ghosts lay between them, and when they finally give in to temptation, walking away whole may no longer be an option.

••••••

REVIEW:Love me a good ole enemies to lovers romance!

It’s Montgomery time again fellow readers! This time were in Fort Collins with the cousins, but that doesn’t make the Montgomery’s any less nutty *or crazy* then we are used to. This new series is kicks off with a not so blast from the past coming back to haunt Annabelle Montgomery in the form of Jacob Queen.

When a new neighbor moves in next to her, Annabelle is shocked to see a man she never thought she would see again, her former friend; Jacob has returned to his hometown.

Jacob holds a unruly amount of hate for Annabelle, thinking the worst of her. The woman who he blames for the loss of his only brother, Jacob is determined to hate her until his last breath. Annabelle, the woman who married his brother in a farce of wedding, who he thinks has ruined what little time he had left with and who his parents love just as much as their only son left.

Fate has a way of knocking one on their arse when one least expects it. When fate in the form of Jacob’s parents inform him of the error of his ways; Jacob must come to terms with the fact that Annabelle is a different person than he thought. Things become clear and their relationship changes with it, just not in a way either of them were expecting.

*Takes a sip of wine*

The Montgomery books are some of my most favorites and this one will be added to that pile. These books always revolve around family and I really enjoy reading what happens next in the lives of my favorite characters. Inked Persuasion is a salty, sweet delightful treat that will leave you with a smile when you finish the book. Five out of five stars from this long time reader!

This is the continuing story of Jenkins ‘Boomer’, and Scarlett Rose, first introduced in BOOMER (Ruthless King MC -Las Vegas #2).

NOTE: If you have not read Boomer (Ruthless King MC -Las Vegas 2) there may be spoilers in my review.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Boomer and Scarlett) BOOMER’S RISE focuses on the re-establishment of the Ruthless Kings MC in Atlantic City. Months earlier, the Ruthless Kings MC-Las Vegas decimated the Atlantic City chapter in the wake of human trafficking, abuse and sexual slavery. Boomer, having rescued Scarlett Rose, fell head over heals, making her his old lady, in the wake of finding himself President of the newly re-established chapter but all is not well with Scarlett’s friend Abigale, who continues to struggle in the aftermath of the torture and abuse inflicted by her previous captors. As the Atlantic City chapter attempts to restore their tarnished name with the people of Atlantic City, the offer of safe haven for anyone who needs help with the incoming blizzard finds the MC facing heart break and grief, and the welcoming of their new club doctor Pulse.

BOOMER’S RISE reveals the new members of the Atlantic City chapter of the Ruthless Kings MC. Refusing to become involved in anything illegal, Boomer desperately searches for legitimate and lawful means of income in an effort to create a peaceful transition with the people of Atlantic City, and in doing so, sets the stage for more upcoming happily ever afters. The premise is consuming and gripping; the romance is passionate and imaginative; the characters are animated, dynamic and entertaining.

I glance around the rink and notice that people aren’t paying us much attention now. They are having their own fun. A few glares here and there, but nothing too terrible. I expected guns, maybe even a little blood to stain this white snow, but I guess I need to rethink my ‘worst scenarios’ since this is a family function.
“You are a freaking sloth, Boom,” Scarlett says, making fun of me.
“Hey, I’m just careful.”
“You look like a newborn baby deer trying to find its legs.”
“That’s mean.”
“Those are the facts, babe.” She clicks her tongue and does the cruelest thing she has ever done to me.
She lets go of my hands.
“I’m going to do a few laps. I’m sure you’ll be around the same spot.”
“Don’t you dare,” I hiss as she lifts her hand and finger waves a farewell to me. “You get back here. What do I do? I don’t know what to do!” I hold out my arms as my feet start to wobble. “Oh man, I’m going to eat fucking ice. I know it,” I say to myself.
Horrible idea. I should have gone to the local casino, but no, I had to go somewhere festive where the locals like to hang and make my appearance. I’m so stupid. Who is going to take me seriously when I look like… what did she call me? A baby deer?
Rude. I’m going to skin her ass later.
“How you doing, Prez?” Teeth asks, crawling on his hands and knees next to me.
“I’m hanging in there. You?”
“Going to go get me a beer. This is a drinking sport,” he says. Teeth looks up at me over his shoulder. His cheeks are red and the red scarf around his neck drags along the ice. “Join me?”
“If I can get there. Crawling is dangerous, Teeth. Someone could fly by and cut your fingers off with the blade on their skates.”
His face turns white and he lifts a hand. “Help me up.”
“No, you’ll bring me down.”
“Help me up, Prez! I didn’t think of that.”
“You got yourself down there, you can get yourself up,” I say, taking a step forward successfully without falling.
His hand wraps around my left ankle, and I hold my breath. “Get off me.”
“No. You’re going to help me, damn it!”
“This was the worst idea ever.”
“You’re just now thinking of that? No shit. None of us know how to skate except Pulse, who had to be a figure skater in his past life. Help me.”
“No!” I try to shake him off, but that’s useless because it causes me to get unbalanced. “You’re a dead man, Teeth,” I say, right before gravity wins. My ass hits the ice so hard the pain vibrates up my spine. I groan in pain and stare up at the night sky. The stars are covered by thick fluffy grey plumes. The snow lands on my face and it feels like a soft tickle against my cheek.
Teeth’s head is propped on my side as he laughs, and I can’t help but to laugh too. “We are so bad at this.”
“Terrible. Let’s not ever do this again,” I say through broken breaths.

K.L. Savage decided they were tired of looking for the kind of books they wanted to read. They had an itch that needed to be scratched, and as every girl knows, nothing scratches better than an alpha.

They write about gritty, alpha males, sometimes their dark sides, and the women they love.
If you have the same itch, their alpha males should fix that.
