Description:
When former forensic photographer Miranda Rhoads moves to the seaside town of Lost Beach, she’s decided to make her living as a wildlife photographer and put crime scenes behind her. But her plans are quickly upended when one morning, she comes across a couple sleeping in a canoe, entwined in an embrace. Looking closer, she realizes the man and woman aren’t asleep–they’ve been murdered.

Detective Joel Breda sets out to find answers–not only about the unidentified victims in the marshy death scene, but also about the aloof and beautiful photographer who seems to know more about his investigation than he does.

As they begin to unravel the motivation of a merciless serial killer, Miranda and Joel must race against the clock to make an arrest before the killer can find them first.

Review:

Flight by Laura Griffin is the 2nd book in her Texas Murder Files series.  I am a huge fan of Laura Griffin, as she is one of the best at murder suspenseful mysteries, police procedurals and a bit of romance.  We meet our heroine, Miranda Rhoads, a former CSI forensic photographer, who left her job (she was burned out) and moves to Lost Beach, a peaceful seaside town, in hopes of moving on.  Miranda now does wildlife photography, content to not be involved in her ex-world of CSI; until she is taking pictures of the sunset and a unique bird.  Miranda comes across a canoe, and two dead bodies, and now that she is a witness, Miranda will meet the detectives in the towns police force.

Joel Breda, our hero, is the detective in charge of the murder, and when he learns that Miranda was a former CSI, he wants her to help them investigate the murder.  Especially since she takes amazing photos of the crime scene, and finds many clues to help the team; which will turn into the possibility of a serial killer.

Though Miranda wanted to escape the life she led before, she finds herself unable to step away, and continues to help Joel and his team.  As more similar older cases begin to show up, the case becomes more complex.  In a short time, both Miranda and Joel find themselves very much attracted to each other; the chemistry between them was great and I loved them together.

Joel, was a strong hero, and a great detective; and together with Miranda they managed to find clues that changes the game.  Joel becomes concerned that Miranda is putting herself in danger, as the murderer maybe too close. The whole Lost Beach Police force was very good, especially Nicole, who was also a very good young detective.

What follows is an exciting, intriguing, suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge throughout, especially as we raced to the climax.   Griffin gave us a great couple, wonderful secondary characters and an excellent suspenseful story.  The last half of the book was extremely tense, I could not put the book down.  I do not want to give spoilers, so you need to read this book to discover what happens.

Flight was another excellent mystery in this series, which to no surprise, was very well written by Laura Griffin.  If you enjoy murder mysteries, police procedurals, lots of intense action, suspense, with a touch of romance, you should read this book.  If you have never read Laura Griffin, it’s time to start now, as she is an amazing writer for romance suspense.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 25, 2021

A steamy fated mates, second chance paranormal romance

My body. My choice. Or at least, it was, until the Fae Winter King hit me with binding magic and insisted I make banshee-human babies. If I refuse, the binding magic will likely kill me.

I have no choice but to comply with my sovereign’s order. Not if I want to live.

But when I meet my fated mate and discover he is no human man, but instead, a mighty dragon shifter, everything changes.

Now I am expecting a beautiful fae-shifter child, and I could not be more excited. Ben and I are headed for our happy-ever-after and I can’t wait to be a mother to his son.

Until the Fae Winter Queen sends our lives into a spiral of horror and destruction with her curse.

Will Ben ever forgive me? Will my frozen heart ever have the chance to thaw?

If you enjoy hot paranormal romance stories containing fae, dragon shifters, fated mates, redemption and second chance romance, then this is the story for you.

Banshee Quest: Renna’s Curse, is both prequel and epilogue to the Blood Fae Chronicles trilogy. This novella can be read as a stand-alone, though the following order is recommended for maximum reading pleasure:

••••••

REVIEW:BANSHEE QUEST : Renna’s Curse is the four instalment and novella in Jen Katemi’s adult, BLOOD FAE CHRONICLES paranormal/fantasy romance series focusing on the hybrid children of Winter Fae Renna. This is banshee Renna and dragon shifter Ben’s story line. BANSHEE QUEST can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: A banshee is part of Irish mythology; a fae or sprite whose keening wail warns of impending death.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Renna and Ben) following two time lines (present day and thirty five years in the past) BANSHEE QUEST follows Winter Fae Renna as she is ordered by the King and Queen of the Winter Fae to personally repopulate the Banshee line with half-human hybrids, as she is one of the few remaining Banshees alive. Sent to the Earth realm, Renna finds herself up close and personal with Ben, a dragon shifter, and the man with whom Renna will fall in love but a curse against our heroine by the Winter Fae queen forces Renna to leave Ben, and embark on a journey to repopulate her kind, a task meant to reinforce the Winter Fae queen’s power and control. Fast forward to present day wherein Renna has been reacquainted with three of her daughters, and is determined to find the man whose heart she destroyed years before.

BANSHEE QUEST is a story of family, loss and acceptance; of revelations and love. The relationship between Ben and Renna begins as an assignment but our heroine never expected to fall in love, let alone with a dragon shifter and her future mate. The fast paced premise is entertaining; the romance is passionate and hot; the characters are powerful, determined, colorful and captivating.

Set To Music by Negeen Papehn – a Review

Set To Music by Negeen Papehn – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Apple

Description:
Dr. Darya Zameeni doesn’t have time for interruptions—in her ER, or in her life. Especially not from the gorgeous man pacing in her waiting room. With mountains of student debt, an ailing single mother, and a younger sister to support, Darya can’t afford to get sidetracked, even though they can’t take their eyes off each other.

Disillusioned Grammy-winning rock star Anthony Castillo’s night wasn’t supposed to end like this—in the ER, panicked after his little brother’s sudden collapse on stage. The band cannot go back on tour without Carlos, but his brother needs constant medical attention. When the beautiful, no-nonsense Dr. Zameeni treating Carlos shows no interest in their fame, he decides she is the perfect candidate for the job. If only he can convince her—and himself—that he wants nothing more.

Darya can’t imagine leaving her job, even temporarily, to follow a rock star around the globe. She’s expected to be the perfect Iranian daughter, after all. But Anthony’s offer comes right as she needs the money and she cannot deny their attraction.

Family is everything to them both. With so much to lose, the smart thing would be to go back to their lives and forget they’d ever met. But doing the smart thing has never seemed so wrong…

Review:

I’m not a big fan of medical romance, nor a fan of singer/band romances. But Set To Music by Negeen Papehn has changed my mind (well a little anyway). Wonderfully written, great supporting characters and a really solid plot.

Darya is a good person, a good daughter and the makings of a great doctor. Working a long shift at the hospital Darya is about to come face to face with a Latino Rock God! Well his brother actually, he’s in after collapsing on stage, he’s a band member, and it’s her job to assess his health. But she can’t help but notice the brother.

Anthony is panicking, he can’t lose his brother to the same disease that took his father! Speeding towards the hospital he prays it’s not going to take his baby brother, he will do all he can to keep him well. Meeting an angel in this place of death was the last thing Anthony expected. But being a doctor could be a blessing in disguise.

There are a few sparks, but Darya knows it would be unprofessional to be attracted to her patients brother, it would only cause heartache for all involved. But when a family tragedy forces her to reevaluate her finances, she accepts the offer Anthony offered her. But seriously!! A doctor on tour, with a band!! Can she really travel such close quarters with a man who makes her insides shake?

It’s a slow burn romance, and at some points in the book, you wanted to move them along. Darya has been told time and time again to look for an Iranian husband, to dress a certain way and to never shame the family! But it’s only been the three of them for a while and Darya has stepped up to look after her mum and sister.

It’s the backward steps, just when you think it’s going in the right place…. we go back!!

I liked Darya, a strong and independent woman. Dedicating her life to her family and career. It did make me chuckle when she had no clue who the rockstar was.

Anthony was a different type of rockstar, he might have the tattoos and an attitude, but explaining that it’s only a mask for his public makes you look at industry in a different light. Seeing the softer side, the family oriented man was definitely better than the arrogant jerk on stage.

The sadder moments were treated with dignity, the medical side was good (if a little long winded at times) and the concerts were described with great detail. And the support in the shape of best friend, band members and family was a joy to read. The jokes were provided by the band members, but for me, the mothers in this book stood out for me, it’s why the main characters were strong, they had supporting mothers behind them.

So, I’ve changed my mind a little about rockstars and doctor romances, don’t think I’ll be diving into anymore just yet. BUT, if the author writes about this band, I’m first in the queue for a book. There are a few triggers in this book that may upset a few people. So please be warned.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 25, 2021

All Lenore Warwick wants for her 21st birthday is to hang out with her friends, finish her second year at Berkeley with flying colors, and maybe catch the eye of a hot musician playing a show at a club that she can now (legally) get into.

Unfortunately, fate has other plans for her.

A week before her birthday, she’s kidnapped by the brooding and dangerous stranger with cold eyes and a lethal touch, who has been stalking her on San Francisco’s fog-shrouded streets. Absolon Stavig isn’t your average criminal though. He’s a centuries-old vampire who’s caught between wanting to kill Lenore and wanting to save her.

You see Lenore, too, is a vampire.

She just doesn’t know it yet.

Taken by a pair of vampire slayers when she was just an infant, Lenore was raised never knowing her true nature. All Lenore knows is that she has (normal) parents who love her, that she’s exceptionally smart, and she’s squeamish around blood. But once she turns twenty-one, she’ll fully turn into a vampire, and Solon hopes he’ll be there to guide her, opening her eyes to her deepest hunger…both sexual and otherwise.

But this turning can’t be kept a secret. Soon both slayers and vampires are hunting Lenore, with only Solon and his unpredictable motley crew of vampires to save her.

If they don’t kill her first.

Black Sunshine is a dark adult standalone romance with a paranormal twist, about sex, love, secrets, and revenge, set in contemporary San Francisco.

••••••••

REVIEW:Lenore is just your typical teenager, partying, and having a good time. She loves her parents dearly, but lately they’ve become really over protective! It’s great, but when you want a party and instead your doing a family holiday! Things need to change….

She has a few good friends, an ex-boyfriend and a love of tattoos and Edgar Alan Poe. I liked Lenore, she was a little eccentric, but sounded like a lot of fun. You have to feel for her when she’s kidnapped and told she’s a vampire! Your heart goes out to her as she struggles with the lies from her parents (who aren’t her laters) the hatred and lack of empathy from Absolon. Then the lust that hits her in waves! Then let’s not forget the craving for blood! (Which before hand would have made her faint!)

How she keeps her mind in tact is a wonder…..

Absolon Stavig “Solon” is an ancient vampire, his sole job was to “teach” Lenore about becoming a vampire.

And I want it noted that he is not a sparkly vampire, it’s not even a broody Eric vampire, this one is more like Bela Lugosi, the nasty look in his eyes, the nasty way he treats Lenore is absolutely horrible. You don’t get the sense he’s there to help her, he’s a mercenary who will sell witches to vampires and vice versa. There is so much more to this vampire than meets the eye!

Being kidnapped was bad enough, being told your not human and your going to turn into a vampire was laughable, until it actually happens!Having to go through two stages until a vampire (lust then bloodlust) Lenore is left in the capable hands of Wolf. (We then get a type of fade out, only to be told that Lenore and Wolf have sex for days!) And as for notion that Lenore will be sold to the highest bidder!!!

We haven’t even touched on the vampire hunters/slayers guild! The witches and the in between world (known as black sunshine)

What a dark story. Really twistedI’d love for there to be more to this stand alone story. So if ever the author decides to write more, I’m definitely down to reading them.

Really well written, at some point you think Solon is going to finally realise Lenore is for him. Loved Amethyst and Wolf, they are such great characters, and I’m still not sure about Ezra!

So will Solon want Lenore for himself? Will he give her the explanations she’s craving? And can she really trust him to keep her safe? Or will he only be out for himself?

Highly recommend this book.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 23, 2021

We were supposed to run away after graduation.
When she didn’t show at our meeting place, I got brave and went after her.
It was a mistake.
I left bloodied and bruised.
I had no choice but to walk away.

Years passed.
I traveled, settled halfway around the world,
made enough money that I didn’t have to look back.
But I never got over her.

Then, out of the blue, she calls.

And, what she asks for, the favor that she wants?
I never thought I’d be willing to take a life.
But the truth is, and always has been: I’d do anything for her.

REVIEW:WILD REBEL is the first instalment in Laurelin Paige’s contemporary, adult DIRTY WILD erotic, romance series, a part of the author’s Dirty Universe. This is thirty-five year old, businessman and ad executive Cade Warren , and grade school teacher Julianna ‘Jolie’ Stark’s story line. WILD REBEL and the Dirty Wild trilogy is the final trilogy in Laurelin Paige’s Dirty Universe which include The Dirty Duet, and Dirty Games Duet. Some of the premise in Wild Rebel crosses over with some of the premise of the aforementioned duets.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from first person perspectives (Cade Warren) WILD REBEL follows thirty-five year old businessman and ad executive Cade Warren as he battles between head and heart with the appearance of the woman he once loved years before. Julianna Stark aka Jolie has come to New York to ask Cade Warren for a favor, a favor she knows she doesn’t deserve but a favor she believes Cade may be all too willing to help her unfold. As Cade continues to struggle with his attraction and need for the woman that destroyed his heart, Jolie discovers that Cade’s love will no longer be an issue. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Cade and Jolie, and the potential fall-out as Cade and Jolie must come to terms with what was, what is, and what may never be.

Cade Warren despises our story line heroine for the betrayal she delivered years before but Cade is completely unaware about the truth of what happened, a truth he only knows through his own horrific experiences, and the resulting scars both inside and out. Jolie Stark is desperate for revenge, and the only person she believes would be willing to help is the man whose heart she destroyed years before. Having both suffered at the hands of a mutual abuser, Jolie is determined to exact vengeance, and in doing so, may reveal a greater truth that neither was aware.

The relationship between Jolie and Cade is one of second chances; a rekindling romance and relationship destroyed by perceived betrayal, broken hearts, secrets and lies. Jolie has never stopped loving our story line hero but a heart once broken never heals as strong as before. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced Donovan Kincaid and Sabrina Lind (Dirty Duet). Donovan Kincaid is one of Cade’s business partners, and the man who begins an investigation into Jolie’s need for vengeance, and the ties to our couple’s past.

WILD REBEL is an impassioned story of power and control; betrayal and vengeance; secrets, lies, abuse and hate that barely touches the surface of what happened years before. The premise is intriguing, through provoking and twisted; the characters re edgy, wounded and real. WILD REBEL ends on a bit of a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

Now he wants to take her to the mats no matter how much they go toe to toe.

ER nurse Daniela England has lost so much that she’s vowed never to need anyone again. Fight club helps her beat back her survivor’s guilt, but it means dealing with Riddick. As Sean heals, the sparks between them burst into red-hot passion—and ignite old wounds. REVIEW:FIGHTING THE FIRE is the third full-length instalment in Laura Kaye’s contemporary, adult WARRIOR FIGHT CLUB erotic, military, romance series focusing on a number of retired military personnel who meet at the local WFC headed by Army Ranger Moses Griffin. This is former US Navy and current firefighter Sean Riddick, and former US Black Hawk and current nurse Daniela England’s story line. FIGHTING THE FIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Sean and Dani) FIGHTING THE FIRE follows the frenemies to lovers relationship between former US Navy and current firefighter Sean Riddick, and former US Black Hawk and current nurse Daniela England. Months earlier Dani and Sean had a one -night stand but in the ensuing months Dani struggled with regret in the face of the upcoming anniversary of her husband’s death. An accident outside of the Warrior Fight Club involving Sean pushed Dani to take care of our story line hero, a push that would place our couple together for the foreseeable future but as their relationship turns into something more, Dani begins to pull away, leaving Sean wondering where it all went wrong. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Dani and Sean, and the potential fall-out as Dani continues to struggle with the death of her husband, as Sean battles the demons from the past.

Dani continued to push away our hero at every opportunity but Sean wasn’t willing to back down with a try. An accident would pull our couple together, an accident that could have very well ended our hero’s career. ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 23, 2021.

The third and final book in a Walker Security trilogy featuring Adrian Ramos…

He was dirty, then he was bad, now he’s just plain wild. Like all the men of Walker Security, when he fell for his woman, he fell hard. Some might call his love for Priscilla a weakness, but you might as well call her a weapon.

You hurt her, vengeance is coming and his name is Adrian.

••••••••

REVIEW: WHEN HE’S WILD is the third and final instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult WALKER SECURITY: ADRIAN erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on former undercover FBI Agent and Walker Security specialist Adrian Mack, and ADA Priscilla Miller. WHEN HE’S WILD should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events and cliff hanger of book two WHEN HE’S BAD. Several characters cross-over from the author’s other Walker Security series.

NOTE: If you have not read book the previous books in Adrian’s Trilogy, there may be spoilers in my review.

SOME BACKGROUND: In the weeks prior to the testifying against the Texas Kings biker club, a club in which he was undercover for close to two years, former undercover FBI Agent Adrian Mack comes out of hiding, and focuses on protecting ADA Priscilla Miller. Assistant District Attorney Priscilla Miller has been assigned the case against Nick Waters aka The King Devil but with the witnesses and people who will be testifying dying or disappearing, Adrian Mack is the remaining credible witness, a witness who is the target of more than one assassination attempt.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Adrian and Pri) WHEN HE’S WILD continues to follow Adrian and Pri as they struggle to stay one step ahead of Nick Waters, whose threats against our couple hit too close to home. Unable to trust family or friends, Pri Miller must quickly learn to trust our story line hero, a man who struggles with demons from his past. When information is revealed about the firm for which she works, Priscilla knows it is only a matter of time before everything spirals out of control. On the run with the team from Walker Security, our couple must come to terms with their issues of trust, and accept that each is willing to sacrifice to save the other.

The secondary and supporting characters are numerous and memorable: Blake Walker from Walker Security; Rick Savage (The Savage Trilogy); a well as Walker Security agents and former members of SEAL Team six- Lucas ‘Lucifer’ Remington, Adam, Jacob; Adrian’s brother Rafael; District Attorney Ed Melbourn, ADAs Cindy, Grace; Priscilla’s ex fiancé Logan Michaels; Nick Waters and his right-hand man Jose Deleon.

WHEN HE’S WILD is a fast paced, energetic and intriguing story line of betrayal and corruption, power and control, trust, acceptance, relationships and love. The premise is riveting and exciting; the romance is seductive and provocative; the characters are headstrong, determined and inspiring. Here’s hoping the author has plans for Adrian’s brother Rafael.

Any other time, that would be enough for me to pull back.

But not tonight. Tonight, I need her to understand everything is not roses and chocolates. It’s fucking, just to get a high that makes you forget the blood and pain, and that is not even a little bit gentle. That’s not lovemaking. That is grinding it out, roughing it up, until nothing exists but pleasure. And it’s about control. It’s about the world stripping it away and my need to claim it again, which is what I’m trying to do with Waters. But she isn’t listening. She has to listen.
I now know that means no turning back.

“You trust me?” I challenge softly.

Her lips part and she whispers, “You know I do.”

“Show me and I’ll tell you anything you want.”

“I’ve already shown you,” she says. “You know I trust you.”

She doesn’t understand but she will. “Show me again,” I say.

“All right,” she says. “What do you want right now, Adrian? Tell me.”

Her. I want her for the rest of my life, but even above that, I want her alive and happy. Her life over my life. That’s what this is about. The room darkens, the cloud just behind Pri outside the window is heavy with the promise of rain, ready to burst. An ominous reminder of how explosive and ready to burst our situation has become.

“Let’s see how much you really do trust me, Pri,” I say. “I’m in charge. You are not. You do as I say when I say it.”

Her rebellion is instant. “And if I don’t?”

“I’ll punish you,” I say, my voice absolute.

Her eyes go wide. “How?”

I leave that question unanswered. “Undress,” I order softly.

I step backward and sit on the couch that faces the window, leaving two oversized—and perhaps useful before this is over—chairs free. I’m now in a position to watch her, to dominate her, and there is a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes that tells me she’s aware of this fact. She’s a woman who prefers control. Giving it away will not be easy for her. Giving it away is a sign of ultimate trust.

Her eyes narrow on me and for a moment I see rebellion, but then there’s a softening of her expression that I know to be the first hints of submission.
