Description:
The best word for Jasmine Renard’s past year is a four-letter word. After years of concerts and increasing recognition, a rogue group of vampire hunters forced her into hiding. When the offer of a lifetime to perform again comes from the arrogant vampire she’s dreamed of shoving off a cliff, Jasmine might have to reconsider everything. Including, Luca Martens.

Luca has waited long enough to be onstage with Jasmine again. Their electrifying musical chemistry damn near blew his mind the last time they performed. To the point he mishandled what happened backstage after their last concert. He’d do anything to feel the spark again while playing, the one only she can ignite. But she hates him.

Review:

For Your Bite Only by Zoe Forward is a stand-alone novella.  Jasmine Renard, our heroine, is an upcoming famous pianist, who stepped away from appearances due to a rogue group of vampire hunters, who want to kill her.  Jasmine stays in hiding, until her friend convinces her to fill in Luca Martens concert. She hesitates, not because of her fear (she is told she will have security to protect her), but she hates Luca, though he is a master violinist at the top of the world.

Luca Martens, our hero, wasn’t sure it was a good idea for Jasmine to fill in, but secretly he was looking forward to her performance, as the chemistry between them in a duo blows his mind, including sexually. Jasmine was engaged to Luca’s brother, before Marcus broke it off, though they remained friends. It was Marcus who convinces Jasmine to perform. When they meet again backstage, Luca feels the chemistry, as well as Jasmine’s nervousness to perform again; especially her facing Luca again.

What follows is an amazing performance when the two of them play together that brings accolades, and Luca is determined to win over Jasmine. He knew the real reason he behaved badly was they he had strong feelings for her, and was jealous that she was engaged to his brother for a prearranged marriage.  When an attempt is made on Jasmine’s life, Luca arranges her to live in his mansion to protect her, as well as have her continue to work with him in performances.  Secretly, he pushes his parent to allow him to win over Jasmine to be his wife, instead of another prearranged marriage.

The chemistry between Luca and Jasmine was hot and sizzling, with both recognizing their feelings for each other.  I really loved Luca and Jasmine, as they made a great couple destined to be together. Jasmine, thinking she has a chance to go out while Luca is away, is attacked by the rogue vampires, which she manages to survive with help from Marcus and Luca.

For Your Bite Only was a fast enjoyable romantic novella, with a fantastic sexy couple.  There was some suspense and danger, but the chemistry between Luca and Jasmine, and their music together made this a wonderful read. Zoe Forward once again gives us an exciting, fun and steamy story that was very well written.  I would love to see another story about Marcus.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 29, 2021

He’s the tattooed bad boy her mama warned her about.
She’s his hot mess — but mostly hot — next door neighbor.
Until a two-night-stand gives them the surprise of a lifetime…

Jillian Morris is a workaholic who forgets to watch the time. And to eat. And to change her shoes. And to keep even a house-plant alive. And to have any kind of a personal life.

Now an eccentric millionaire has left her eight million dollars. And eight penguins. Yes, real live penguins. She’s a wildlife vet who specializes in penguins, so that makes sense. Kind of. She can, and does, keep penguins alive and well. She now just has to move them cross-country to her friend’s new animal park.

So if anyone deserves a one-night (or two) stand with a hot, younger, tattooed bad boy on a motorcycle, it’s her. Or so Jill tells herself when Zeke Landry flips his bike in front of her motel and she stitches him up.

If only she’d known who he really was.
And that he was the fall-hard-and-fast type.
And the protective type.
And that one night would turn into more like nine-months of being… sigh… very personal.

••••••

REVIEW:FLIPPING LOVE YOU is the third instalment in Erin Nicholas’ contemporary, adult BOYS OF THE BAYOU GONE WILD erotic, romance series -a spin off from the author’s BOYS OF THE BAYOU . This is thirty-four year old, wildlife veterinarian Jillian Morris, and twenty-five year old, builder/accountant Zeke Landry’s story line. FLIPPING LOVE YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines, is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Zeke and Jillian) FLIPPING LOVE YOU follows thirty-four year old wildlife veterinarian Jillian Morris as she ventures to the Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild wildlife sanctuary in the wake of inheriting eight penguins from a man she barely knows but Jillian Morris is a little obsessive about her penguins, refusing to give up control without a fight. Enter neighbor and Bayou homebody Zeke Landry, and the man with whom Jillian will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Zeke and Jillian, and the potential fall-out as a one-night stand, friends with benefits arrangement quickly turns into something more.

Jillian Morris’ life is spiralling out of control but the one thing she knows and wants are the safety and reassurance of her penguins lives. Zeke Landry is the designer and builder behind the penguin facility at The Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild, and is also the renovator and contractor for Jillian’s home . When Jillian offers a friends with benefits relationship, Zeke jumps at the chance, hoping to turn a spontaneous romance into something more but the something more is about to turn into something more permanent when Jillians discovers their liaisons have led to an unexpected pregnancy. Jillian doesn’t know the first thing about children or relationships, and in this she battles between head and heart with what is to come.

Meanwhile, Jillian’s penguins do not appear to be settling into their new environment so the possibility of a ‘new’ handler means Jillian has more time to spend on herself. Jillian is a woman whose behavior is different, almost on the autism spectrum scale but a woman who’s determination to protect her penguins is paramount to the point of obsession and her constant presence within the the penguin environment.

The relationship between Jillian and Zeke is one of immediate attraction predicated on a friends with benefits, neighbors and lovers by proximity but Jillian isn’t looking for anything permanent, and struggles with the prospect of parenthood with our storyline hero. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the large extended Landry family (including those from the Boys of the Bayou series) and the ‘herd of goats’ that continually escape wreaking havoc wherever they go. Naomi and Donovan’s story is next.

FLIPPING LOVE YOU is a story of family and friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is engaging and captivating; the romance is provocative and fun; the characters are numerous, energetic and entertaining.

He lifted a hand to run it through his wet hair.
Her eyes followed the motion, seemingly riveted on his arm. He wasn’t sure if it was the tattoo or what exactly. But he did know that Jillian was fascinated with his ink. She had traced all of it with her fingers and tongue last night more than once. And he had a lot of ink.
“I’m the guy who’s remodeling your house.”
Her eyes widened. “We’re going to be neighbors.”
He let his grin grow slowly. “Yup.”
She tipped her head back and groaned.
But it wasn’t one of the hot oh-my-God-yes groans she’d been giving him last night. This was more of oh-crap groan.
“You’re clearly not as excited about that as I am,” he said dryly.

Her head came up and she met his eyes. Now there was no roaming over his half naked body. She shook her head. “It just feels complicated to live next door to the guy I’m hooking up with once a month.”
He was confused. “We’re hooking up once a month?”
“Well, that was what I was going to propose anyway. Friends with benefits, you know? After last night I thought that could be kind of fun.”
“That would be fun. Very, very fun,” he said. “But why only once a month? I’m up for that kind of fun way more often.”
“Sure. But then it turns into more like dating or a relationship or something rather than just getting together for hot sex.”
“And I take it the relationship and dating thing is something you’re trying to avoid?”
“Very much so. And living next door to you means that we’ll see each other occasionally and since you’ll be saving me from alligators on a regular basis, we could potentially turn into actual friends. And that makes the hooking up even more complicated.”
Having the sun up hadn’t made him feel any less attracted to, slightly confused by, surprised by, and definitely amused by this woman. “But friends with benefits has friends right in the title.”
This all sounded good to him. Having a neighbor he could get naked with whenever the urge struck, who didn’t want anything else from him, sounded pretty great.
“I’m just really not interested in a relationship,” Jill went on. “I’m not good at them. And I don’t really have time for them. And I don’t put the effort into them, which ends up bothering the other person after a while. Which is understandable. I’m not blaming anyone. I just really like to have everything laid out and everyone on the same page. And I like sex. It would be really perfect to be able to have amazing sex, but only when it’s convenient.”
Zeke gave a soft snort. Convenient hot sex. It really did sound pretty amazing.
“If you just want to walk through my door, only wearing a robe and nothing underneath to save time, I’m not gonna kick you out, cher,” he told her. He was half-teasing. But only half.
She finally gave him a hint of a smile. “I can just show up on your front porch anytime I want?”
He reached up and cupped the side of her head. He brought her in close and put his mouth against hers. “Any freaking time.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 29, 2021

Luca Sabatini saved me and an entire truck full of women on our way to be sold into sex trafficking—but who will save me from him?

He tells me I belong to him, that a Sabatini keeps what is his. I shouldn’t want to belong to anyone, yet a longing I don’t understand thrums through me—an attraction I cannot deny. Except it’s not safe for me, or him. I climbed into the back of the truck of my own free will because I’m running from a fate far worse.

For the first time in my life I feel safe with Luca. He promises no one will ever hurt me again. He will protect me from what I’m running from; he’ll kill anyone who is a threat to me. I want to believe him—he’s run Vegas for the Outfit for almost as long as I’ve been alive. Only the man I’m running from has an entire army behind him. If I thought Luca could go up against him and survive, I would stay, but others have tried and paid with not just their lives but the lives of their families. I could never live with myself if Luca and the Sabatini family ended up dead because of me.

When I’m found the reckoning is one of bullets and blood, just as I feared. Only one question remains: Once the smoke clears, who will be left standing?

•••••

REVIEW:HIS: LUCA is the third instalment in Fiona Murphy’s contemporary, adult THE SABATINI FAMILY erotic, dark, Mafia, romance series- a spin off from the author’s Dirty Billionaires series. This is thirty-six year old, Luca Toro Sabatini, and twenty-four year old, Isabella ‘Bella/Isa’ Reyes’s story line. HIS: LUCA can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storylines is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Luca and Bella) HIS: LUCA follows the building romance and relationship between thirty-six year old, Luca Toro Sabatini, and twenty-four year old, Isabella ‘Bella/Isa’ Reyes. Isa, as she was called, has been ‘given’ not once but twice to two older men in an effort to appease her father’s friendships with the Mexican cartel but tired of the abuse, one of Isa’s brother arranged for our heroine to be ‘shipped’ off with a truck filled with women destined for sexual slavery, only to be rescued by Luca Sabatini. Luca’s attraction to Isa aka Bella is immediate, and claims Bella as his own. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Bella and Luca, and the potential fall-out as Bella’s past demands retribution targeting Luca in the process.

Luca Sabatini is the illegitimate son of former Chicago hitman Tony Sabatini but with the death of his step-father, Luca took over the control of Las Vegas, Nevada. Working to rescue kidnapped women from sexual slavery, Luca ensures the women he saves, have a place to stay but discovering Isa aka Bella Reyes stirred something deep within our story line hero, and Luca immediately claimed Bella as his own. Bella knew she would always have to be on the run, fearing not only her father but the Mexican Cartel. Never expecting to fall for Luca Sabatini, Bella struggled to remain with the Sabatini family believing her presence placed a target on the people with whom she was falling in love

The relationship between Luca and Bella is one of immediate attraction. For Luca, it was a case of insta-love, for Bella, her attraction and love grew within a matter of hours and days. Luca knew Bella would one-day be his wife but Bella struggled with a past that refused to let go. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word in my ‘romance’ story lines.

All of the previous story line couples, including those from the author’s Dirty Billionaire Series play secondary and supporting characters. We are witness to the growing and expanding families, as well as a look to the future, also revealed in a previous story line. Tony Sabatini plays a larger role in Luca’s story line.

HIS: LUCA is a story of family and relationships, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, love and happily ever after. The premise is entertaining ; the characters are animated and captivating; the romance is seductive and intense.

Due to commitment issues I have lived in many different cities and my favorite is Chicago but I have managed to settle into Austin and perhaps my commitment issues are behind me.

I have enjoyed reading from a very young age and it wasn’t long before the children books bored me and I read the books my mother enjoyed Stephen King and Dean Koontz and I didn’t sleep without the light on until I was about ten.

I came across my first Harlequin by accident and it was love at first read, no one died and happy endings? It was a whole new world and I loved it.

I wrote my first story at eight and everyone died, of course. Since then I would like to think I’ve gotten better and now I’m writing the happily ever afters I first fell in love with, with some hot sex thrown in along the way.

As a plus size woman myself, I have started writing the stories I always wanted to see myself in but never did. And now I’m ecstatic to give BBWs the happily ever afters with hot Alphas I want to read.

REVIEW:Take a deep breath before you plunge into this masterpiece because once you start, you will not be able to stop! Freed is book 18 in the Steel Brothers Saga by Helen Hardt. As always with any series, reading it in order is recommended, with Freed I do think the author gives enough back story that you won’t be lost if you read it as a standalone, but that being said, you’ll want to go back and read it in order.

The entirety of The Steel Sage is fantastic, and that continues with Dale and Ashley’s adventure into the unknown. Dale has demons, ones that he struggles with from his past, Ashley has her own battle scars from her childhood, but doesn’t let it control her life now. Two people that you wouldn’t think would need each other end of being their own saving Grace.

Without spoiling all the goodness to come from this read, be prepared to want to scream every five seconds as well. The book is so well written, the emotion, the feeling, the pain and twists of the plot will suck any reader under. For parts of Freed, Dale was dangling off a cliff, and even with the shoddy things he said and did to Ashley, she was the only one to talk him down from that edge. There were times, even as I read it, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen next!

Five star review from me, Freed is a tantalizing read that is sure to keep its readers on their toes, and better yet, coming back for more.

REVIEW:Ruthless Saints is the third book in the St. Monarch’s Academy series by Michelle Heard. This book is a standalone novel in the Mafia, Organized Crime, Suspense Romance genre.

While this book is a standalone – I highly recommend every other book in this series.

Carson Koslov is a paid assassin, and he chooses to live his life In Saint Luc, Switzerland. That is where he meets Hailey Welsh. Hailey is backpacking through Switzerland and has made a

temporary stop in Saint Luc. Carson is trying to blend in with the locals and that takes him to a local bar once a week. To make it look like he belongs there.

That is when he meets Hailey. From the moment he meets her there is something different about her. She seems to be the light to his darkness.

Try as he might, and he knows he shouldn’t – he can’t keep away from her. Every moment he spends with her puts her life at risk..

As a paid assassin he has a lot of enemies. The last thing he needs is the distraction of Hailey Welsh.

Hailey Welsh is a fun loving, personable, beautiful young woman. Working her way through Switzerland. The last thing she needs a relationship.

But she seems to have the same draw towards Carson. From the moment she met him she can’t seem to keep her mind off him.

When Carson decides that he can’t put Hailey at risk in his world, he says his goodbyes. But neither of them are prepared for that – and it isn’t long before they are

gravitating to each other again. Carson knows he must tell Hailey the truth before it is too late – but how do you tell someone you are paid to kill people?

And will Hailey still think of him the same once she finds out the truth?

The moment of truth comes when Carson’s enemies find out about Hailey and use her to get to Carson.

This story is fast paced and worth the ride. The struggle of Hailey coming to terms with what Carson does was gut-wrenching.

And you could feel Carson’s pain emanate from each page as he tried to come to terms with losing Hailey because of who and what he is.

Michelle Heard has a way of painting a world in which you become completely immersed.

In no universe can the moon and sun be together. They’re forever destined to be lightyears apart, with empty darkness filling the space between them.

Don’t read this as a standalone – ohhhhh every book in this series has been so deliciously good. Highly recommend.

REVIEW:  CARNAL URGES is the second instalment in JT Geissinger’s contemporary, adult QUEENS AND MONSTERS erotic, Mafia, romance series. This is the forty-two year old, new head of the Boston Irish mob Declan O’Donnell, and twenty-eight year old, yoga instructor Sloane Keller. Declan was first introduced in the author’s Beautiful Cruel series. Sloane was introduced in book one Ruthless Creatures.

SOME BACKGROUND: At the end of book one RUTHLESS CREATURES, Sloane Keller heads back to New York to visit her best friend Natalie Peterson, the fiancée/wife of Bratva boss Kage Porter, and finds herself the victim of a kidnapping by the Irish Mob.

NOTE: There are some scenes of sexual spanking and bondage that may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Sloane and Declan) with a chapter from Natalie and Stavros, CARNAL URGES follows the abduction of our heroine Sloane Keller by members of the Irish Mob but Sloane being Sloane begins to push all of Declan’s buttons. Declan O’Donnell, second in command, has orders to bring Sloane to his boss but said boss has apparently met his demise, leaving our hero in charge. Not knowing what to do, Declan holds Sloane prisoner, where she will make friends with Declan’s men, threatening any sense of normalcy within the Irish mob. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Declan and Sloane, and the potential fall-out as Declan’s backstory is revealed, and a war brewing between the ruling families sees the heads taken down, one man at a time.

Sloane Keller is a spunky, confident, quirky, feisty, take no sh*t heroine who gives as good as she gets. Always ready with a chirpy come-back, Sloane easily makes friends with several members of Declan’s mob but her over the top attitude pushes at Declan’s barely veiled control. Falling for Sloane was never in the cards, but Declan finds himself pulled into the whirlwind that is our story line heroine. Declan O’Donnell never wanted to take control of the Boston Irish mob but circumstances required that Declan step in and step up, placing Declan at the top, in command but Declan keeps secret the who, how and why, and his secrets are about to place Sloane in the direct line of fire.

The relationship between Declan and Sloane begins as an abduction wherein Sloane’s energetic and high spirited personality immediately gets on our hero’s nerves. Reading to toss Sloane back from where she came, the palpable sexual attraction fuels a burning need for Declan O’Donnell. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate, erotic and intense-with some scenes of spanking and light bondage.

We are reintroduced to Declan’s right-hand man Kieran, and Spider; head of the Russian Bratva in New York Kage Porter and Natalie Peterson; Bratva member and Sloane’s former boyfriend Stavros; and Declan’s ‘handler’ Greyson.

CARNAL URGES is a story of power and control; secrets and lies; obsession, betrayal, and love. The back and forth, humorous banter and snark between Sloane and Declan is fast, fun, and furious-Sloane is a fearless heroine who is full of life and love for a man who would kill to protect the woman he loves. The fast paced premise is spirited and often amusing ; the characters are fiery and animated; the romance is captivating, provocative and seductive. CARNAL URGES is a wonderfully humorous and sizzling addition to the author’s QUEENS AND MONSTERS Mafia series. CARNAL URGES epilogue ends on a cliff-hanger, you have been warned.

We drive. He takes phone calls, one after another, speaking in Gaelic through each one. After maybe a dozen, he hangs up and turns to me.
“Don’t try to run. It’s safer for you with me than anywhere else right now.”
“Trust me, my feet hurt too much to…What do you mean, it’s safer with you?”
“Exactly what I said.”
We gaze at each other as the limo speeds through the night. Wherever we’re going, we’re going there fast. “So all that stuff you threatened me with on the plane—”
He interrupts, “What kind of guns have you handled?”
When I blink, he growls, “Answer the fucking question, please.”
Please. Astonished, I open my mouth, then close it again. My second attempt is successful. “. 357 Desert Eagle. Glock G19. AK-47.”
His brows lift. He’s surprised by the AK.
“Stavros had rifles lying all over the place. He liked to shoot at fish in the lake.”
“Of course he did. Fucking Russians.” He shakes his head in disgust, then leans down and pulls a small black pistol from a holder around his ankle.
He hands it to me.
“If we’re separated, use it on anyone who approaches you, even if they seem friendly. Even if it’s a little old lady, shoot that bitch between the eyes.”
I stare at him with my mouth hanging open and my eyes wide.
He sends me a mirthless smile. “At last. Silence.”
I can’t form words. This psychotic blue-eyed gangster has rendered me speechless.
When I finally manage to regain control of my tongue, I say, “How do you know I’m not going to shoot you?”
“Are you?”
I consider it. “Maybe.”
“Decide. We don’t have much time.”
“You’re insane, is that it?”
“Believe me, lass, I sometimes wonder.”
Pulling a beefy silver semi-automatic handgun from his waistband at the small of his back, he continues. “Things are going to get bad. We’re going to take fire. The car is armored, but if the tires are compromised, we have about eighty kilometers before they die.”
He stops and looks at me. “That’s roughly fifty miles.”
I see. He doesn’t think I’m brain damaged, he thinks I’m just plain stupid.
“I don’t give a shit about the tires. Rewind to the part about things getting bad and start over. What the hell is going on?”
“I can’t tell you.”
“If you can hand me a loaded gun and tell me to shoot an old lady between the eyes, you can tell me what’s happening. We’re past the honeymoon stage. Besides, I can handle it, no matter how bad it is. Spill.”
I could swear that flash in his eyes is admiration, but it’s probably just an urge to wrap his hands around my neck and choke me.
And not in the good way.
“War is what’s happening, Tinker Bell,”he says ominously. “War and all the bloody business that goes along with it.”
“Oh, swell. You’re being cryptic. I just love an incomprehensible Irishman. They’re my absolute favorite.”
“Careful. You’ll exhaust yourself using your entire vocabulary all at once.”“Can you tell from my tone how much I want to smash the butt of this gun into your face?”
“Can you tell from my face how much I want to smash the palm of my hand into your butt?
”“That was stupid.”
“Says the girl who jumped from a speeding car.”
“I would’ve jumped from a skyscraper if it meant I wouldn’t have to be near you.”
“If I’d known that, I would’ve taken you straight to the top of the Hancock Tower.”
I roll my eyes. “Just tell me the truth. I swear I won’t burst into tears. The last time that happened was before I’d even gotten my first period.”
He pauses, his gaze assessing. “Tell me how it’s possible that you’re not scared of me, or of this situation, or of anything else as far as I can see, and I’ll tell you what’s happening.”
I give it serious thought for a moment. “Honestly? I’m just badass like that.”
After a short, disbelieving silence, Declan starts to laugh.
It’s a deep, rich, sexy sound, beautifully masculine. I hate myself for liking it. And for noticing what nice white teeth he has. And how strong his jaw is. And is that a dimple in his cheek?
He stops laughing abruptly, looking as disturbed by the unexpected outburst as I am. Guess he wasn’t expecting that, either.
“Got that out of your system?”
Glowering, he says, “Aye.”
“Good. So who’s going to be shooting at us?”
“MS-13.”
More gangsters. I’m in up to my eyeballs. “Because…?”
“They don’t like me.”
I stare at him with my lower lip pinched between my teeth.
He says drily, “Thank you for showing restraint. It must be incredibly difficult.”
“You have no idea.”
“There’s another reason they’re after me.”
When he only sits there gazing at me in inscrutable silence, I prompt, “Anytime you feel like enlightening me, I’m all ears.”
“You.”

Between Two Thieves by Sloane Steele – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM

Description:
She’s no stranger to theft—but this time, it’s her heart at risk of being stolen.

Get in. Get out. The two basic rules of thieving.

But when Nikki Russo runs into ex-boyfriend Wade Palmer, getting out gets mighty complicated, mighty fast. Burned by Wade before, her life was less difficult with him gone—even if it was less exciting.

Nikki’s working for the good guys now, trying to restore some ill-gotten gains to their rightful owners. Wade is doing one last job for his mentor—who also happens to be Nikki’s dad.

Now it seems they’re after the same high-value painting. And maybe a little of that thrill they used to share. Teaming up with a man she’s not sure she can trust won’t be easy, especially when Nikki discovers there’s a lot more at stake than Wade first let on.

But then, Nikki’s always loved a challenge. Where’s the fun in easy anyway?

Review:

Between Two Thieves by Sloane Steele is the 2nd book in her Counterfeit Capers series.  I enjoyed the first book, It Takes a Thief and looked forward to the second book, and happy to say I loved this one equally or even better. Refresher: Jared and Mia (cousins), plan their series of heists as payback against their fathers.  A number of years ago, their fathers were exposed for a Bernie Madoff financial scam, causing many people to lose their money; a number of those people were put into financial binds. The fathers are in hiding, leaving the children and their wives to suffer the backlash against them; even though they had no idea what was happening. Years have passed, and now both Jared and Mia have inherited from their mother’s trust funds, which they plan to use to help out all those people who were hurt financially.  They will aim at their fathers’ cronies, who have valuable art, and they plan to steal the various paintings/sculptures, replace with forgeries, and provide compensation to the victims; which they plan to do 12 heists.   But they need to find people who can help them perform the necessary deeds.

The series revolves around those people who Jared and Mia hired to help them. Audrey (Data) is a hacker, Nikki is the thief and London is the forger. In Between Two Thieves, Nikki is the lead in this story, as she runs into her ex-boyfriend, Wade whom she left a few years ago, since he refused to leave her father, the criminal who trained both of them. Nikki is the best at what she does, and seems happier working for Jared and Mia, since she loves being a thief, and this time its for a good cause.  When she meets with Wade, she discovers that he is trying to steal the same painting as her group is planning on.  Though she still has feelings for Wade, she doesn’t trust him, especially since he helps her father.  Wade still loves Nikki, but knows he needs to steal the painting to help her father out of a threatening situation.  Nikki learns that Wade has gone straight, being a partner in a security firm, but without telling her too much information, he pleads with her to let him get the painting.  Unfortunately for Wade, Nikki and her team manage to steal the painting before he can, and she learns why he needed it (her father owes money to a bookie, and they are threating him).  She then decides to help Wade get the painting (she will have London make a forgery) and work on stealing the original now at a museum.

What follows is another wonderful exciting story, in the world of hackers, thieves and forgers, as well as playing robin hood (payback to the victims). There was plenty of action, intrigue, suspense and a couple we rooted for. Nikki was a great heroine, and Wade was a nice guy who was very much in love with her.  I do not want to say too much more, since you should be reading this without spoilers.  Between Two Thieves was very well written by Sloane Steele.  Between Two Thieves was a fun, as well as suspenseful story, with a fantastic group of characters.  I look forward to the next book in this series.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 29, 2021

Only an idiot would try to kidnap Jayla. She’s a take-no-prisoner kind of vampire who rebelled against the previous King of Vampires, and now regularly battles with both human and demon enemies who resent the success of Dreamscape casino she manages in Hong Kong. So when she’s snatched off the streets, she doesn’t bother to struggle. Instead she starts plotting her slow, bloody revenge.

The last creature she expects when she arrives at her destination is Azrael, the mysterious mercenary vampire she killed a century ago.

Azreal has never forgotten Jayla, and not just because she tried to stab a stake through his heart. He’d never encountered a female who could match him in battle. Her raw courage was sexy as hell. And it didn’t hurt that she was drop-dead gorgeous. But, he didn’t abduct her because he desired her. Or at least, that wasn’t his main motivation. He needs her rare talent to stop time. An evil fey has stolen his sword. The weapon is magically bound to him, and unless he retrieves it, he’s doomed to a painful death.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

•••••

REVIEW: SLAYED BY DARKNESS is instalment 17.5 in Alexandra Ivy’s adult GUARDIANS OF ETERNITY paranormal/fantasy romance series, and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is vampires Azreal and Jayla’s story line. SLAYED BY DARKNESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary

Told from several third person perspectives SLAYED BY DARKNESS focuses on the abduction and attempted assassination of our heroine Jayla. Jayla works as the manager for Dreamscape Casino in Hong Kong but a rival casino manager has demanded some of Jayla’s time. On her way, Jayla finds herself the victim of a potential kidnapping, only to come face to face with the vampire she thought she over seven hundred years earlier. Enter former Viking turned vampire Azreal. As Azreal presents his case for ‘kidnapping’ our heroine, Dreamscapes owner Chiron calls upon our intrepid gargoyle Levet, to help locate his missing manager. What ensues is the building relationship between Azreal and Jayla, and the potential fall-out as something more sinister is going on behind the scenes.

Azreal knew immediately the assassin sent to take him down is his fated mate but our hero was cursed by the fey hundreds of years earlier, and his soul has been trapped inside a magical sword all this time but Azreal woke up to discover the sword had been stolen, and his life was slowly draining with each passing day. Desperate to retrieve the sword, Azreal knows of only one being who is able to control time, and that being is the woman that calls to his heart.

SLAYED BY DARKNESS is a fast paced, novella length story of second chances, of a sorts. Jayla believed she had killed a man for no other reason that having been ordered to do so, and with his return, Jayla got a second chance to make things right.Having been cursed by the Fey, Azreal knew he would probably live a long and lonely life but the return of Jayla meant Azreal had a second chance at his own happily ever after, if only they could retrieve the sword that held his soul. The $ex scenes are limited by passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters included Jayla’s boss Chiron, and her assistant Gideon; rival casino owner Emile; gargoyle Levet and his aunt Bertha.

SLAYED BY DARKNESS is entertaining and engaging; the characters are dynamic-always fun to read about Levet ; the building relationship between Azreal and Jayla focuses on the search for the sword, and the acceptance of one another as each other’s mate.

“If you intend to kill me, I wish you’d get on with it before I die of boredom.”
Azrael smiled with rueful humor. “You haven’t lost your arrogance, kiska.”
She froze at the sound of his voice. Or maybe it was his Russian endearment. She’d reminded him of a hissing cat the first time he’d seen her. Sleek and elegant and utterly lethal. Her rich lotus scent swirling in the air. “Who are you?”
Azrael leaned toward her. “First, I intend to relieve you of any weapons you have hidden beneath that lovely gown.”
She hissed in outrage. “Touch me, and I’ll kill—”
“Not this time,” he interrupted, sweeping his hands down the length of her torso.
It took an effort, but he kept his touch light, refusing to acknowledge the jolts of pleasure racing through him. She was bound and momentarily helpless. He might be a vampire, but he wasn’t a monster. Not anymore.
He reached the slender length of her legs when he at last found a sheath tied around her upper thigh. Carefully, he pulled out the slender dagger with its silver blade and tossed it onto a chair across the narrow space. Next, he bent to slide off her shoes, lifting the pointed heels to his nose. Poison. Just as he’d suspected.
“Impressive,” he murmured, flipping the shoes to join the dagger. “Now, this.” Grabbing the thick hood, he slowly pulled it off her head.
Jayla blinked, a visible tremor racing through her body as she allowed her gaze to skim over his face before lowering to the white cashmere sweater stretched across his chest and then down to his dark slacks.
At last, she slowly shook her head as if coming out of a dream. Or a nightmare.
“No,” she rasped. “This is a trick.”
“I’m very real,” he assured her, leaning forward. She was clearly in shock, but she hadn’t panicked. And she hadn’t tried to attack. He was willing to take a risk. With quick movements, he unlocked the shackles and let them drop to the floor. Then, he offered her a sensuous smile. “Do you want to touch and prove for yourself?”

Like most writers, I was born with an avid love for reading. Growing up in a small town in the Midwest, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have a book in my hand or wasn’t dreaming up wild stories in my head. And when I stepped into my local library for the first time I thought it was paradise. There were so many books on the shelves I didn’t know where to start!

Still, I didn’t plan to grow up and become a writer. I was much more interested in a glorious career as an actress on Broadway.

I followed my dream by acquiring a degree in theatre and performing for several years in summer-stock productions, but after I married my college sweetheart I decided to put the career on hold while we started a family. After the arrival of my two sons, Chance and Alex, I found myself seeking a new creative outlet and decided to turn my occasional scribblings into a genuine effort to get published.

I’d like to say that I was an overnight success, but the truth is that it took years before I finally got ‘the call’. The rejections were painful, but now I’m relieved. All those manuscripts that I thought were the next Great American Novel are now exactly where they belong…gathering dust under my bed.

They did, however, help me learn my craft, and just as importantly, they gave me the opportunity to enjoy writing in a wide variety of genres as I searched for my voice. Which no doubt explains why I started writing traditional regencies under the name Debbie Raleigh and then moved to steamy historicals under the name Deborah Raleigh before transforming into a contemporary paranormal writer as Alexandra Ivy. Now my career spans everything from erotica to romantic suspense.

When I’m not writing I love to travel, it doesn’t matter where I’m going as long as it doesn’t include any cooking or cleaning. I also love to spend time with my family who continue to be my greatest source of inspiration. And since some things never change…when I have a few minutes, you can still find me with a book in my hand!
