ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 24, 2021

To maintain her cover and keep her family off her back, they fake a relationship.

Having spent her whole life trying to prove she’s just as capable as her three older brothers, art retrieval expert Ivy Danger has landed the biggest gig of her career, one that will pay off the mortgage of the animal shelter she owns. That is, if she doesn’t die before finishing the job. Even if she locates the stolen art, the violent gang of thieves won’t give up their million-dollar payday without a fight. She has one person she can turn to for help—Nash Harris. Security expert, her brother’s best friend…and the gorgeous man of her fantasies who treats her like a kid sister. Not that she’d do anything about her attraction anyway—not when it would screw up her family dynamic if things went sideways between them.

Now it’s impossible to tell what’s real and what’s not.

Despite having known Ivy forever, “brotherly” is the last thing Nash feels for the sexy troublemaker. She’s it for him. The One. He’s known it for a while…but convincing Ivy is another matter. When they have to fake a relationship for her current job, things shift between them. They’ve worked together before, but she’s in over her head with this latest job. But before anything can come of it, he’ll have to keep her alive when she’s targeted by a dangerous group known for violent retaliation. Nash will do whatever it takes to keep her safe, to prove she can trust him—on the job, with her life, and with her heart.

REVIEW:SAVING DANGER is the seventeenth instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult RED STONE SECURITY (RSS) romantic suspense series. This is former US Marine, security expert Nash Harris, and art retrieval specialist Ivy Danger’s story line. SAVING DANGER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed necessary.

Told from third person perspective SAVING DANGER follows the best friend’s sister relationship between security expert Nash Harris, and art retrieval specialist Ivy Danger. Ivy Danger’s latest assignment involves the retrieval of a priceless piece of stolen art but the thieves killed their last mark, and the hunt is on for the people involved. Hoping to avoid her family, only in town until her work is done, Ivy comes face to face with her brother’s best friend, Nash Harris, the man who stirs something deep within our story line heroine. Taking some time off from his position at Red Stone Security, Nash partners with Ivy in an effort to recover the art, and take down a killer, who is about to set their sights on Ivy and Nash. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Ivy and Nash, and the potential fall-out as Ivy’s family and friends have been targeted, and Nash refuses to back down from protecting the woman with whom he is falling in love.

Ivy Danger is a strong, independent, take no prisoners kind of heroine but her latest assignment finds Ivy a little deeper than she could have ever imagined. Trying desperately to avoid her family, Ivy struggles with her attraction to Nash, an attraction that could backfire when Nash is placed in the direct line of fire. Nash Harris has been attracted to Ivy for as long as he can remember but Ivy’s job keeps her busy, and Nash refuses to cross the line with his best friend’s little sister but when Nash discovers the potential danger of Ivy’s latest assignment, our hero refuses to back down, placing himself in the direct line of fire. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

The colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters include Ivy’s siblings: Sebastian and Maika, Ezra and Jordan, as well as their mother; fellow security specialist Juan, and several members at RSS; bakery owner Angel, Ivy’s best friend and art collector Genesis. There is definitely something developing between Juan and Angel. The requisite evil has many faces. Here’s hoping the author has plans for Ivy’s brothers.

SAVING DANGER is a fast paced, suspenseful and intriguing story line. The premise is edgy ; the characters are strong, flirty and spirited; the romance is seductive-the sexual tension is palpable.

Using the back stairs, she headed toward one of the rear doors and made her way out into the sunlight. She had a couple more stops to make but… She pulled her phone out as she headed toward the nearby sidewalk.

There was one person she wanted to call even though she knew she shouldn’t.

Nash Harris.

One of her brother’s best friends, the man who starred in all of her fantasies, and hell, was one of her best friends, if she was being honest. She might not be telling her family that she was in town, but she would tell him. It would feel wrong not to. And if she was being honest, she wanted to see him. Craved it, even.

Not that she didn’t have the sharp planes of his face memorized or dream about how kissable his lips looked—or fantasize about running her fingers through his dark brown hair. The man always kept it so short and it looked so damn soft. Aaaand she was getting off track.

Maybe she’d just have one dinner with him. Get a glimpse of his fine ass and get her fix until the next time they got to meet up. It wasn’t enough but it would have to do for now.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 24, 2021.

All she wanted was the truth.

All he wanted was to be left alone.

Nadia has always been in charge of her life. As a private investigator, she makes her own hours and only takes on cases that she wants to work on. But when a family friend asks her to look into a case, she instantly regrets it—it hits far too close to home.

The last thing she wants to do is rip open old wounds. Especially Trade’s, the single father she’s been spending time with. It isn’t long before she’s falling not just for him, but for the kids he’s trying so hard to protect.

But the little voice in Nadia’s head tells her that something isn’t right, and she’s determined to find the truth. Using her connections to the Knights of Fury MC and the Fast & Fury motorcycle garage to gather evidence, Nadia uncovers evidence of a conspiracy that will leave everyone shaken—and force her and Trade to do whatever it takes to keep their new family safe

REVIEW:CUSTOM LOVE is the third and final instalment in Chantal Fernando’s contemporary, adult FAST AND FURY romance series focusing on the men and women who work for Fast and Fury Custom Cycles. This is single father Trade, and private investigator Nadia’s story line. CUSTOM LOVE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary. The FAST AND FURY series is a spin off from the author’s KNIGHTS OF FURY MC series.

Told from first person perspective (Nadia) with a final chapter from Trade,CUSTOM LOVE follows Nadia’s private investigation into the murder of Trade’s girlfriend. One year earlier, Trade lost the love of his life, leaving him a single father to four children. A local man was arrested, charged and found guilty of the murder but fast forward to present day wherein Nadia, a private investigator, is asked to reopen the case in the belief that the man in jail is taking a fall for someone else. The problem, Nadia is friends with the dead woman’s sister, boyfriends and extended family at the Knights of Fury MC, and unwilling to betrayal their love or their trust, Nadia reveals her investigation, only to be shunned by the man with whom she will fall in love.Enter former MC member, single father Trade. What ensues is the building but struggling romance and relationship between Trade and Nadia, and the potential fall-out when Nadia’s investigation begins to take a personal turn with everyone involved.

Trade has struggled in the year since the murder of his girlfriend. As a single father, Trade has had the help and assistance of family and friends but our hero has never thought about moving on until Nadia drops into his life. Battling between head and heart when Nadia reveals the direction of her investigation, Trade must chose between the past and the present, hoping to avoid a lonely future alone. Nadia knew taking the case would open up a proverbial ‘can of worms’ but never thought she would lose her friendship with Trade. Recusing herself, Nadia would struggle with the information she knows, pulled back in when the FBI and police begin another investigation of their own.

The relationship between Nadia and Trade is slow to build as Trade struggles to move on from the past. Nadia is reluctant to fall for a man who is unable to let go of what was especially when she may always be second choice, now and in the future. Trade never thought he would find someone else to love, and guilt begins to override his need for our heroine. The $ex scenes are passionate but mostly implied.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including several from the Knights of Fury MC. We are introduced to Trade’s children, their aunt Izzy, and Detective Decker.

CUSTOM LOVE is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; a story of betrayal and vengeance; second chances and the future. The premise is engaging and entertaining but not quite as edgy as the previous instalments- I expected a little more drama and conflict when it came to the resolution; the romance is sweet and gentle; the characters are energetic and enterprising.

REVIEW:PROTECTIVE is the fifth instalment in KE Osborn’s contemporary, adult HOUSTON DEFIANCE MC erotic, MC,romance series focusing on the members of the Houston Defiance MC. This is Sargent at Arms Texas, and club attorney Finley ‘Fin’ Knight. PROTECTIVE can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the storyline premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Fin and Texas) PROTECTIVE follows in the wake of threats against our story line heroine. Finley Knight’s latest court case made her a target of a very powerful man. Desperate for help, Finley approaches her most infamous clients, the Houston Defiance MC, asking for protection, in case of attack. Enter Houston Defiance MC Sargent at Arms Texas, and the man with whom Finley would fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Finley and Texas, and the potential fall-out as the club finds themselves targeted from several sides, leaving a wake of death and destruction in the wake.

Texas has lusted after Finley Knight for as long as he can remember but volunteering to protect Finley places our hero in the direct line of fire, a fire he is willing to fight in an effort to save the woman he loves. But sometimes, the threats comes from another direction, and now the Houston Defiance MC is pulled into a war, not of their making. Along with former prospect Phantom, Texas finds himself on round the clock security duty, fighting a fight that he may not be able to win. Finley Knight is a strong willed, independent and oft-times frustrating heroine who refuses to change her life, even if it means, exposing herself to another attack. The fact that Finley ‘asked’ for help, then refused to follow, makes our heroine TSTL at the most inopportune times.

The relationship between Finley and Texas is one of immediate attraction but Finley refuses to cross the line with her protection and client. When the attacks against Finley target her home, Texas pulls Finley in to the Houston Defiance compound only to discover that betrayal comes at a cost. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Phantom, Wraith and Prinie, Zero and Cherry, as well as most of the previous storyline characters. The requisite evil has many faces.

PROTECTIVE is a story of betrayal and vengeance, obsession and revenge, family, friendships, relationships and love. The premise is heart breaking, emotional and captivating; the romance is edgy and seductive; the characters are broken, energetic, and desperate.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 26, 2021

My husband was taken from me.
Murdered two years ago.
Now it’s time for revenge.

At least that’s what I wanted until a stranger catches me red handed.
Matthew’s dominant, possessive, and too ruthless to ignore.
He wants to help. To give me a future, freedom, and, most of all, vengeance.
Problem is, he has no clue who I really am. Or my family’s legacy.

I do everything in my power to keep my secrets hidden.
To maintain our perfect pact that becomes complicated by attraction.

Until I learn my lies and sins are nothing in comparison to his.

••••••

REVIEW: SEEKING VENGEANCE is the first instalment in Eden Summers’ contemporary, adult HUNTING-MAFIA dark, erotic, romantic suspense, Mafia series-a spin off from the author’s HUNTING HER. This is single mother Layla Torian, and businessman Matthew Langston’s story line. SEEKING VENGEANCE can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the HUNTING HER series for back story and cohesion where Layla’s story begins.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Layla and Matthew) SEEKING VENGEANCE follows Layla Torian on her journey for revenge. Layla’s life spiralled out of control when her father, Luther Torian, manipulated our heroine to betray her family and the people she loved but two years earlier, her daughter’s life was threatened, and Layla demands retribution for sins of the past. Meeting businessman and nightclub owner Matthew Langston stirs something deep within our story line heroine but exposing secrets and lies reveals a deeper connection than anyone could have ever imagined. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Layla and Matthew, and the fall-out as Matthew and Layla’s pasts collide, once again, threatening, everything and everyone Layla and Matthew love.

Layla Torian has struggled with her place in the family for a number of years, always on the outside; ostracized by her siblings, barely in control. Needing revenge for the heart break and pain of almost losing her daughter, Layla goes in search of the people she believes continue to destroy her life, only to come face to face with Matthew Langston, a man who knows more about revenge than Layla knows. Matthew Langston is a man with many secrets, and lies by omission are about to break our heroine’s heart. Obsessed with Layla, Matthew is willing to risk everything to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Matthew and Layla is predicated upon a number of lies. Neither Matthew nor Layla are willing to expose themselves-the who, what, and why, of their need to avenge and protect but an immediate attraction and desire pulls our heroine into Matthew’s life. With a history of ‘falling’ for the wrong type of men, Layla is about to discover that Matthew may be the most evil of them all. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and intense but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word, although only used once, more for shock value than anything else.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Layla’s extendedn family of siblings and one-time friends from the original Hunting Her series: Luke and Sarah, Decker and Keira, Anissa and Cole ,Luca and Penny; Layla’s daughter Stella, and their half brother Tobias, as well as Matthew’s largely dysfunctional family, and his right hand man Bishop.

SEEKING VENGEANCE is a heart breaking and emotional story of betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, power and control, obsession and love. The premise is revealing, twisted and edgy; the characters are wounded and determined; the romance is seductive, captivating and spirited. SEEKING VENGEANCE ends of a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

“Are you deliberately torturing me?” he growls.
My heart kicks. Wild and unrhythmic. “Torturing you?”
He raises the scotch, downing the contents in one fell swoop before returning the glass to his side. “You know exactly what I’m talking about.”
There’s a warning in his voice. A delicious subtle threat.
My throat tightens. My chest, too. Everything is so painfully, invigoratingly restricted that I have to fight hard to maintain level breathing.
I raise my other leg, crossing both at the ankles against the rim of the tub. I shouldn’t be doing this. Warning bells ring in the farthest recesses of my mind. If only they were loud enough to put a stop to the craziness. “Join me.”
His jaw ticks. That’s his only response. No movement. No words.
“Matthew?”
His features tighten, almost setting in a glower as he grates, “Be sure about this, Layla.”
“I think I am,” I lie. I’m not even partially certain. I’m running on instinct alone. No, not instinct—infatuation.

REVIEW:FACELESS is the second instalment in Alexandra Ivy’s contemporary, adult PIKE WISCONSIN romantic, suspense thriller focusing on the people of Pike, Wisconsin. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Noah and Wynter FACELESS focuses on Noah and Wynter’s search for the truth. Approximately twenty-five years earlier Wynter lost her mother to a fatal shooting, a shooting the police blamed on an armed robbery gone bad. ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 24, 2021

Sold into slavery mere hours after his birth to werewolf parents, Tracker spent decades in service to cruel underworlders. Then the fallen angel Harvester transferred his ownership to a human woman who gave him as much freedom as the unbreakable bond would allow. Still, thanks to his traumatic past, he’s afraid to trust, let alone feel love. But when an acquaintance shows up at his door, injured and in need of help, he finds himself longing for a connection. For someone to touch. For someone to care.

Stacey Orr has had it bad for Tracker since the day her best friend, Jillian, was forced to hold his unbreakable slave bond. At first, the fact that he’s a werewolf seemed weird to Stacey, but hey, her best friend was married to one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, so weird is definitely a matter of perspective. Stacey knows the depths of Tracker’s trauma, and she longs to help him even as he helps her, but breaking through his walls isn’t easy.

And it only gets harder when the only blood family he has, the pack that gave him away, lays claim to him… and everything he loves.

REVIEW:  Bond of Destiny by Larissa Ione is the twentieth installment in the Demonica Series and can be read as a standalone. The Demonica series is one of Ione’s many paranormal series, Bond of Destiny is a standalone novella in that series. While I am a big supporter of reading a series in order to get the most out of it, this novella provides enough backstory that reading the previous books isn’t a must do.
Tracker is a werewolf, and has spent his whole life in the service of others, given to slavers just after he was born, he has spent all his time at the will of others. His Masters. Most of those Masters are too cruel to even mention, he has never been shown love or kindness. That changes with his new owners, Jillian and her husband, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The story really starts to take off when Stacy comes into the picture. Stacy is Jillian’s best friend and a strong woman in her own right. When Tracker rescues Stacy from a winter storm and they end up snowed into together sparks fly and the goodness begins.

Throughout this entire story, I felt so bad for Tracker and the life he has had to live. You can tell how lonely they both are and how much they both want to connect to each other; they just don’t know how to go about it. Tracker is so awkward at times and Stacy is a bulldozer in getting what she wants. Since she has decided that what she wants is Tracker, she is going to stop at nothing. Just as Tracker starts to live his life, his so-called family comes waltzing their furry behinds back in the picture, except what they want isn’t something Tracker is willing to give them. Drama ensures *no spoilers* and Tracker along with the help of friends must figure out what to do.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for paranormal romance. I loved this! I thought the way Tracker slowly started coming out of his shell was so sweet. You can really start to see him open up and become his own person as the story progresses. Stacy was funny and a good match for Tracker, but her relationship with Jillian was a little odd sometimes. Nothing that would deter from the book, but just a little odd. I hope to see more from the Demonica series! Bond of Destiny was funny and bitter sweet. The sexy scenes are a perfect tie in for the character growth and add to the story rather than fill it in. I can’t wait to see what comes next!

Impossible female.
Damn, Stacey was stubborn.
And sure, Tracker liked that. To a point. Her stubbornness made it damned hard to protect her. As a DART agent, he was sure she was capable, just as she’d said. But just as he’d said, she was injured, and until he found out what they were dealing with, she had no business being out here.
It was his duty. Period.
As far as her deception—although he hesitated to label it that—he wasn’t sure what to do. He didn’t truly believe that Jillian would be cruel in her anger. His reaction had more to do with his past experiences than his present.
And in the past, he could be tortured mercilessly for what had happened between he and Stacey. Now…now he was worried more about disappointing Jillian.
Jillian has basically freed you, but you keep putting the shackles back on.
Shackles? Stacey had no idea.
But it was something he’d have to deal with later. Right now, something was lurking in the forest.
He looked toward the heavens, measuring the darkness. The sky was clear and the moon was nearly full. Which meant a lot of light. Too much light. He’d be easily seen out in the open.
The trees and buildings threw silhouettes onto the fresh white snow, so he kept between drifts and in the shadows as best as he could and used his natural night vision to scan the forest. Pausing near the barn, he raised his head, seeking scents that might be out of place.
He caught a whiff of a deer somewhere nearby, but aside from that, nothing stood out. Still, the sense of a threat remained, like an oil slick on his skin.
He moved cautiously in the direction of the Harrowgate. The roads weren’t cleared yet, so anyone trying to get here would either have to use the gate, flash in, or hike for miles through deep snow and thick forest.
He really hoped no one had flashed in. Anyone capable of materializing into a location was powerful. Granted, anyone who could use a Harrowgate was a bigger threat than your average human, but the flashers were next-level dangerous. Fallen angel and hellhound-level dangerous.
As he approached the plowed path leading to the Harrowgate, the danger vibe intensified. Adrenaline spiked hot in his veins, bringing with it the high of the hunt. The only time he’d been happy in Sheoul was when there was a threat or when he was hunting something his masters wanted. The beast inside him craved the chase, and for a brief time, nothing else mattered. He could forget everything but the thrill of the hunt and the satisfaction of a good battle.
He’d given his all, and he’d earned a reputation among slave owners of being willing to face anything, do anything, go anywhere, because he was so brave.
His owners, who had bragged about his fierceness, were wrong. He hadn’t been brave. He just hadn’t cared whether he’d lived or died.
Now he cared.
More important, he had people he cared about.

After initial shock at the idea she could have a twin, something clicks inside Lane—and now she needs to locate her missing sister. A romance blossoms as Jonas agrees to help her. But when the man from Lane’s nightmares shows up in her dreams again, Jonas and Lane realize Veneta may be in grave danger, and their search for Lane’s sister turns into a heart-pounding race.

Review:

Maple Leaf Harvest by Catherine Anderson is the 7th book in her Mystic Creek series.  Lane Driscoll, our heroine, has been having occasional realist nightmares since she was a child; her parents have sent her to doctors, but nothing has ever helped.  With time passed, her nightmares are less, but out of nowhere she has a terrible nightmare, about someone hitting her, and wakes up to notice she has bruises.  The next day at the store, the same man in the dream, sees her and shouts “how did you escape”, but she manages to get away.  Soon after, Lane decides to leave her hometown, to escape the possibly of this person finding her, and try to figure out what is happening.  She ends up in Mystic Creek, and starts a new job in a perfume shop.

Jonas Sterling, our hero and local psychologist, is shocked to see his ex-girlfriend in the store.  When Lane decides to find a psychologist to help her find a cure to her nightmares, she ends up in Jonas office, and he throws her out.  Lane is surprised, since he calls her by another name, and despite her saying that is not her name, he wants nothing to do with her.  But Jonas, being a nice guy, will bring Lane back to the office, and will learn that his ex must be the identical twin of Lane. Jonas will discover that Lane was adopted (which she knew) when she was three years old; but also find out that her identical twin was adopted by someone else, which is against the law to separate twins.

Lane and Jonas will embark on a journey to find ‘Neta” (the other twin), especially since Lane continues to get violent nightmares, which show her twin is in danger, suffering torture. But finding her is almost impossible. Can Lane and Jonas find the villain in time to save her life?

What follows is a slow build romance between Lane and Jonas; they made a great couple with sizzling chemistry.  I really liked them together.  I did not like when Lane made a wrong decision regarding Jonas, without knowing all the facts; and giving up too easily.  To tell too much more would be spoilers, and this is an excellent mystery thriller, which I do not want to spoil.

Maple Leaf Harvest was very exciting, emotional, tense and intriguing story, as they race to find the sister she never knew, in time.  I loved the secondary characters, such as Jonas’s friends, and Lane’s adopted parents.  Catherine Anderson once again gives us another great addition to her Mystic Creek Series.  I suggest if you have not read the Mystic Creek series, you need to do so soon and start with the first book.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 24, 2021

I used to live in darkness and a comet soared through my night sky. So I made a wish.

Blood is my sanction.
Pain is my salvation.
Fear is what I instill.
Especially for my Comet.
The warm barrel of a gun against my head? It won’t stop me from protecting what is mine.
Even if it means spilling more blood.
My love for her has been tested and I’m furious.
Seconds has turned to minutes.
Minutes has turned to hours.
And suddenly months have gone by without a change.
Trying to make Daphne remember is getting us nowhere.
It’s time to accept our fate.
This is the new us.
Giving up isn’t an option, but moving on is, and we are doing it together.
While we figure out how to be together again, we wait for her stepfather to be sentenced.
Even if I want to be the executioner.
And while time creeps by, I don’t give up hope she’ll come back to me.
In the chaos of fighting for our lives, fighting the flames that try to take us down, there is one thing stands strong.
Us.
She’s mine.
And there are no limits to protect what’s mine.
A taste of time is nothing compared to the history we hold.
And sometimes time tells us when to let go.
But I’ll hold on tight until my death.
…And wishes do come true.

REVIEW:TONGUE’S TASTE is the sixteenth instalment in KL Savage’s contemporary, adult RUTHLESS KINGS MC: LAS VEGAS dark, erotic, MC romance series, and the third story line focusing on of Wayne ‘Tongue’ Hendrix, and Daphne Lace. TONGUE’S TARGET should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of TONGUE’S TARGET #10.

WARNING: Due to the graphic nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers. If you have not read any of the previous story lines focusing on Daphne and Tongue, there may be spoilers in my review.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Daphne and Tongue) TONGUE’S TASTE continues to follow the volatile and unconventional relationship between Daphne Lace and Wayne ‘Tongue’ Hendrix. Daphne and Tongue are currently in hiding with the New Orleans’ chapter of the Ruthless Kings MC. Daphne’s crazed step-father is desperate to locate our story line heroine but demons from her past have reclaimed our heroine such that she can no longer remember the man that she loves. As Tongue struggles in his efforts to bring Daphne back to the present, Daphne’s birth father Mercy is desperate to start a relationship with the daughter he has never known. Memories will surface as secrets reveal the painful truth about what was and what will never be.

TONGUE’S TASTE is another dark, gritty, raw and emotional story line focusing on violence and abuse, and the highly sexual and unique relationship between our story line couple. We learn a little bit more of the Ruthless Kings MC: New Orleans chapter including an up close and personal look at Hex and Seer in action. KL Savage pulls the reader into a haunting tale of betrayal and vengeance, forgiveness and acceptance.

It pains me to see her glance around this old house, staring at it as if she’s never really seen it before. The truth has been revealed about her stepfather, who her real dad is, and what happened to her mom. I can tell by the look on her face she feels like she’s lived a lie.
I’d never lie to her.
Gun to my head, knife to my throat, Reaper’s hand around my heart, I’d rather die than lie to my Comet.
She looks sadly around the house that held so many lies and so much deception. I thought the truth would wiggle her mind free and she’d come back to me, but we are right where we have been for a while now. If the truth doesn’t set her free, I don’t know what will.
Maybe it’s time for me to face the truth. Maybe Daphne won’t ever get her memory back and while it hurts, I’ll adapt.
Because that’s what love does.
I hurt for her, though. All those memories we built are just gone. The strength she’s had to use to get to where she is today has disappeared. It’s unfair for her not to get it back. She deserves to know and remember everything she has accomplished in life.
“I can’t believe I lived here with a monster,” she says, interrupting the stillness of the house.
It’s the first time we have been back since the day at the hospital. The day I almost lost her because of her stepfather’s selfish behavior. Many people died that day, but she didn’t.
Her aunt didn’t.
And the moment she was able to leave the hospital, I didn’t bring her here because this place isn’t her home.
I am.
So I took her to the NOLA Clubhouse where I knew she’d be safe. I’m glad I made that choice because she didn’t want to come back here until she was ready. Her Aunt Tina calls every day to check in on her, but Daphne has yet to talk to her.
Daphne is angry at Tina for keeping the truth about Mercy from her for so long. She hasn’t spoken to Mercy either. She wants to. I can tell. I don’t think my Comet knows how to open herself up to Mercy or her aunt after knowing the truth. For some reason, she can’t remember her own truth, so why would she want to talk about the truth with others?
Daphne confides in me, but there are times where she keeps me at arm’s length. We are nowhere near the couple we used to be before all this… fucking shit happened.
I’d follow Daphne to the ends of the earth, but that doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to be angry and tired.
I miss her. I miss us so much. I miss her touch. I miss sleeping next to her. I don’t know what else to do. Not even Happy makes her… happy.
Speaking of the best boy in the world, I squat and dig into my pocket for a treat and toss it to him. His jaws snap and his tail flicks. My big boy can only wear a harness now. He grew out of his collar. “Aren’t you so good?” I scratch under his chin, and he opens his jaws slightly, smiling when I hit his favorite spot. Bullseye and Reaper did me a big favor when they made a quick trip to bring me Happy a few months back.
There’s a piece of chicken hanging in his tooth, and I reach in and pluck it, placing it on his tongue. I’m never scared of him biting me. He is gentle with a select few people. Me, Daphne, and Slingshot… sometimes. Poor taco-loving bastard has a few scars on his arm from getting nicked one too many times. At the end of the day, he is still a predator, but a loving one at that.
Kind of like me, I guess.
Happy is wearing his emotional support vest, which never fails to get a few stares as I walk him every day.
Daphne is sitting on the floor in one of my oversized t-shirts, sniffling as she cries and wipes her cheek. She holds out her arms and Happy scurries across the floor and climbs into her lap, placing his head right on her shoulder. She sobs as she slides her hand down his spine, petting him gently. He purrs from her touch, which I can relate to.
Been there, Happy. I understand.

K.L. Savage decided they were tired of looking for the kind of books they wanted to read. They had an itch that needed to be scratched, and as every girl knows, nothing scratches better than an alpha.

They write about gritty, alpha males, sometimes their dark sides, and the women they love.
If you have the same itch, their alpha males should fix that.
