Description:
Decades ago, rogue dragon shifter Rune Abaddon took a stand against the decaying, corrupt systems governing their people. He now uses his bad-ass reputation to protect the innocent as it all comes crashing down. But he’s pushed the limits one too many times. His hideout is destroyed, his few allies are scattered and hiding, and the Alliance has placed a dead-or-alive bounty on his head, making him the most wanted dragon in the western hemisphere.

And then the most enticing woman he’s ever met barges into his mountain, demanding an audience.

Hadyn Reece’s future was ripped away long ago. The man fated to be her mate was murdered alongside her parents before Hadyn was old enough to be turned, leaving her to be raised and trained by her dead mate’s parents in the dragon shifter world. Now, the Alliance has come for the only family she has left. It’s a good thing she was raised by dragons, because the only one who can help her save them is a traitor she’d be smart to fear.

Especially when his dragon decides she’s theirs.

Review

The Traitor by Abigail Owen is the 5th book in her Fire’s Edge series.  Finally!  I’ve waited (sort of) patiently for Rune Abbadon’s book for a while now, and it was well worth the wait.

We’ve known about Rune since the first book, in fact he’s been mentioned (and possibly appeared) in the spin off series (Inferno Rising Series). He’s a rogue dragon that defies the alliance, and he’s been a thorn in the The High King’s side for some time!  But in this book we find out more about the man/dragon. We already know he’s a snarly, lone Wolf! An enigma.  But he was once part of the infamous Huracáns team.

So what happens for him to go rogue?  We know he’s taking mates that are destined to other dragons! Why? It’s all to do with a theory he worked out. But no one really believed him,  so going rogue was his only option!

Hadyn is such a complex character. Definitely human, brought up by dragons after her parents and their son died. Teaching her all there was to know about dragon kind.  She’s a human meant to be a mate for a dragon.  And after losing her adoptive parents to a rogue seeking team, she’s now looking for help. Her dragon father told her of a dragon that could help her.

But when she finds him, he’s not that helpful! In fact he doesn’t trust her at all!!  His dragon is very interested in the little human (Hadyn) but Rune doesn’t let anyone get too close. And so an uneasy truce/alliance is formed.

Spending time with Hadyn is very distracting for Rune, he’s usually not interested in females. But this one is crawling under his skin with her constant questions, attitude and determination. Maybe he ought to suggest a no strings affair whilst he helps her?!

I love these stories. It’s easily read on its own, but read in order just gives the book more depth.  We see how and why Rune is so closed off. There is also a lot of action (running from rogue hunting squads). The attraction between these two is just hot. But he knows she can never really be his. She belonged to someone else, and a fated mate only gets one chance, so trying to mate with Hadyn could cause her death!

We catch up with previous couples, we also get more info on what’s happening with the Alliance. And when a bounty is placed on Rune’s head it places everyone he cares about in danger! There is so much going on, death of a beloved couple. Fights for freedom and rescue missions. It doesn’t let up!!

I’m recommending this book, but I’m also asking that you read the others as well. You won’t be sorry. The pace, the passion and the story is just one you’ll want to read again and again.

An esteemed group of loyal returning guests is set to descend upon the hotel, joined by a number of new faces who have managed to secure coveted bookings in the wake of last-minute cancellations.

Awaiting them all is the Louis XVI’s new manager, Olivier Bateau, an anxious man whose lack of experience leaves him unprepared. He and his level-headed assistant manager, Yvonne Philippe, both strive to continue the hotel’s tradition of excellence. But they quickly realize that anything can happen at any moment, and on one cool September evening, everything does.

A successful art consultant arrives at the hotel for the first time since her brutal divorce, and is surprised to find new love—if she is willing to risk her heart again. A new guest contemplates ending his life, and saves a life instead. A couple finds their once-in-a-lifetime trip interrupted by a tragic medical emergency, leaving the idyllic future they’ve long waited for hanging in the balance. And one of the hotel’s most high-profile guests, a French politician and assumed presidential candidate, holds a mysterious meeting in his suite that will threaten his life and legacy. Rocked by the events of this one fateful night, guests and staff alike brace themselves for the aftershock, as it quickly becomes apparent that more dramas and misfortunes are still in store.

Danielle Steel tells an unforgettable story about a famed hotel, where a few complications quickly escalate into a matter of life and death, changing the lives of everyone who passes through its doors.

Review:

Complications by Danielle Steel is a standalone novel.  Complications revolves around a luxury hotel in Paris, Hotel Louis XVI, that has been around for decades, which has recently undergone renovations over a four-year period.  The story begins with opening night, as the new manager and assistant welcome the guests. The new manager, Oliver, is a nervous wreck, but his assistant Yvonne, who is much younger, seems to have things under control, always able to fix anything that should happen.

Of course, opening night starts off with a bang, with a number of incidents.  Gabrielle Gates, a famous New York art consultant, decides to return to the Hotel Louis XVI, to try to get over her bitter divorce (her husband of 20 years cheated on her with a young girl).  A happy couple in love, both coming off divorces, looking forward to enjoying Paris, takes a tragic turn, when her boyfriend has a heart attack.   A British doctor, Alaistair Whyte-Jones, who is staying on the same floor, performs CPR on the stricken man, and plays a big part in saving his life, which will require major surgery.

Alaistair and Gabrielle, start spending time together, as they try to help the girl, and visit at the hospital; a friendship begins.  We learn more about Alaistair, as he has come to this hotel knowing he is dying, with a short few months to live; he is prepared to end his life when things get bad.  The relationship between Gabrielle and Alaistair heats up, as they begin to have feelings for each other, and she learns about his cancer.  It is Gabrielle who will convince Alaistair to take the treatments, instead of not doing anything at all.  The story revolving around Gabrielle and Alaistair is the main storyline, as we see them fall in love, and her support for him during his severe treatments.  I really liked the two of them together, as they made a great couple.

Another story line revolves around a powerful French politician, who is also planning to stay at the hotel.  Patrick Martin, is plans to run for President, but he has a secret.  He leads a double life, having an affair with another man, who is blackmailing him. When things get out of hand, the other man falls, hitting his head, and dies.  Patrick decides to leave the hotel, and go home, preparing to tell the police a false story.  His life will implode, with everything falling apart, including his family.

What follows is a number of interesting stories, revolving around three different groups, as well as management of the Hotel. It was nice to see the various cities that played major parts of the background; Paris, London, New York. I thought the new manager really was not fit for his job, though the assistant, Yvonne was great.  Alaistair and Gabrielle was a wonderful story all the way through.  Complications was very well written by Danielle Steel, which was a quick read and entertaining.

Olivia, who is eighteen years younger than him and happens to be the daughter of Prescott Group’s biggest, most important investor. She’s completely off-limits, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting her. In his arms. His bed. His life.

He’ll burn down the entire city to protect the only woman he’s ever loved.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: BAD INTENTIONS is the fourth instalment in Tara Wyatt’s contemporary, adult THE PRESCOTTS erotic, Mafia, crime-world series focusing on the Prescott family. This is forty-five year old, CEO of the Prescott Group and head of the Kings of Hell’s Kitchen Lucian Prescott, and twenty-six year old, interior designer Olivia Walsh’s story line. BAD INTENTIONS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Lucian and Olivia) using present day and memories from the past, BAD INTENTIONS follows the forbidden, older man /younger woman romance and relationship between forty-five year old, CEO of the Prescott Group and head of the Kings of Hell’s Kitchen Lucian Prescott, and twenty-six year old, interior designer Olivia Walsh. Approximately five years earlier, Lucian Prescott fell in love with his business partner’s daughter, a woman eighteen years his junior, and thusly off limits. Over the next five years, Julian and Olivia would randomly meet at parties and get togethers but it is not until her father asks a favor does Julian know Olivia is now his for the claiming. But…when Olivia’s ex-boyfriend begins to demand everything and more, Julian becomes guardian and protector of the woman that calls to his heart. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Julian and Olivia, and the potential fall-out when an assassin sets his sights on our story line heroine.

Julian Prescott is the head of a group known as the Kings of Hell’s Kitchen, a well connected group of former members of organized crime who act as go-betweens when the criminal underworld take aim at one another but Julian will quickly discover Olivia’s ex is as dangerous as they come, and Julian is no longer satisfied to sit back and wait for someone else to take control. Olivia Walsh has known since the first time she laid eyes on Julian Prescott, that he would one day be her man but Olivia’s business is about to take off, and if not for her ex on the constant prowl, everything about her life would be perfect. When the threats against Olivia become more dangerous and dark, Julian calls in help from the Kings of Hell’s Kitchen but even they are not infallible when someone else is determined to take back what doesn’t belong

The relationship between Julian and Olivia is older man/younger woman (May-December romance) wherein five years of lusting after one another finally comes to fruition. Olivia’s father is not impressed with Olivia’s choice in men but Julian is the perfect foil for the man that is targeting our story line heroine. Julian has always believed he would never settle down but when threats against Olivia bring Julian front and center, Julian knows that it is only a matter of time before he claims Olivia as his own. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including all of the previous story lines couples, as well as the Kings of Hell’s Kitchen:Luca Romano, Ryu Shiroda, Killian Byrne and Sasha Petrov. We are introduced to Olivia’s father Gavin Walsh, several of our heroine’s BFFs, Olivia’s ex Massimo Greco, and Julian’s cousins Noah, Hudson and Levi.

BAD INTENTIONS is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; a story of betrayal and vengeance, obsession and retribution, power and control. The fast paced premise is gritty and captivating; the romance is spicy and provocative; the characters are energetic, powerful and determined. BAD INTENTIONS is my first story by Tara Wyatt, but it definitely won’t be my last- I am going to have to go back to the beginning, where it all began.

An Unexpected Kind of Love (When Snow Falls 1) by Hayden Stone-Review Tour

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo / Google Play /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 9, 2021.

Bookstore owner Aubrey Barnes likes his quiet, orderly London life, thank you very much. His shop may be struggling, his only employee is a menace, and his plumbing is one creaky pipe away from disaster, but he can handle it. Maybe. He cannot, however, handle the film company that’s thrown his Soho street into chaos.

And he definitely can’t handle the charismatic American actor Blake Sinclair.

Which is why he’s extremely reluctant to lease out his shop as a set for Blake’s film, but it’s his one opportunity to save his business. Now he can’t get away from the distractingly hot actor.

Then Aubrey finds himself alone with Blake in a trailer, and what happens next turns London’s heat wave into an inferno that leaves him breathless.

Aubrey is not cut out for the high-profile life of dating a celebrity, especially an American actor who’s not even out yet. Good thing their tryst is absolutely not going anywhere.

Of course, when you expect nothing, that’s exactly when it starts to mean everything.

••••••

REVIEW:AN UNEXPECTED KIND OF LOVE by first time Hayden Stone is a contemporary, adult, LGBTQ, MM romance story line focusing on American actor Blake Sinclair, and twenty-three year old, London bookstore owner Aubrey Barnes.

NOTE: AN UNEXPECTED KIND OF LOVE focuses on a sexual relationship between two men that may not be suitable for some readers.

Told from first person perspective (Aubrey) AN UNEXPECTED KIND OF LOVE follows the building romance and relationship between American actor Blake Sinclair, and London bookstore owner Aubrey Barnes. Blake Sinclair is in London, England filming a movie, cast as the best friend to the leading star. A change of location to the streets of SoHo brings Blake up close and personal with bookstore owner Aubrey Barnes, when Aubrey’s store becomes a part of the story. Aubrey Barnes is in no position to turn down the cast and crew as he continues to struggle to make ends meet at the store, but the added bonus of catching the eye of American actor Blake Sinclair begins to place the focus on a new relationship that is about to implode when the truth is revealed. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Aubrey and Blake, and the potential fall-out as Blake’s time in London, comes to a close, and his relationship with Aubrey becomes the focus of the media and paparazzi back home.

Aubrey Barnes currently owns and operates his family’s struggling bookstore, a business in which Aubrey places all of his heart, soul and money , leaving nothing for himself. Meeting actor Blake Sinclair forces Aubrey to reconsider everything about his current situation, a situation in which he battles to make ends meet. Falling for Blake was completely unexpected but Aubrey will be blindsided when Blake pushes away the man with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Aubrey and Blake begins as a series of misadventures from an unhappy client to a coffee shop mishap, a mishap quite possibility orchestrated by one of our heroes. Aubrey’s ex Eli continues to meander in and out of Aubrey’s life, a meandering that threatens his relationship with Blake Sinclair. Although Blake’s time in London is temporary at best, our couple make plans for a long distance relationship, a relationship that may not survive the gossip and fodder. The $ex scenes are passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic lanaguage and text.

We are introduced to Aubrey’s ever-present employee Gemma; art curator and friend Lily; his ex Eli and his new boyfriend Ryan, as well as several members of the film crew.

AN UNEXPECTED KIND OF LOVE is a story of friendships, relationships, secrets and love. The premise is inviting but I did have a few issues with the overall presentation. As the story was told from a single point of view, I think it would have added a layer of interest with a dual perspective. We know little to nothing about Blake Sinclair, and in the aftermath of their fall out, we know even less about what happens back home. Also, the story line does leave a few of the ongoing plot points open ended- some conflict resolutions that would have been better, addressed.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 10, 2021

Leaving his cosy cabin at Black Ridge in the middle of a winter storm isn’t Lowe’s idea of a good time, but he’ll do whatever his alpha wants. With his twin for company, he battles the blizzard and his grouchy bear side, trying to keep his spirits up. When his brother brings up his bad habit of getting his heart broken, Lowe is sure things can’t get any worse… and then a gunshot echoes around the valley and the smell of blood sends his instincts wild.

And when he finds the owner of the delicate, tempting scent and sets eyes on the most beautiful female he’s ever seen, fear and hope collide as he realises she’s human but everything inside him roars ‘fated mate’.

Going on the run hadn’t been in Cameo’s life plan, but when her nice-guy-turned-drug-lord ex kills her brother and sets his sights on her, the binder goes out of the window. Staying one step ahead of Karl and his men is vital to staying alive, but a wrong turn leads her into a remote valley and what looks like the end of the line… until a gorgeous six-six mountain of a man rescues her and growls a vow to protect her.

As the heat that crackles between them blazes into an inferno, Cameo is torn between accepting Lowe’s help and leaving to keep him safe. With the clock ticking and the men hunting her drawing ever closer, will Cameo follow her head or her heart?

••••••

REVIEW: RESCUED BY HER BEAR is the second instalment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult BLACK RIDGE BEARS paranormal, romance series – a spin off from the author’s COUGAR CREEK MATES’ SERIES which in turn is a spin-off from the author’s Eternal Mates series. It is not necessary to have read the previous series but there is an on-going premise throughout with the inclusion of the group known as Archangel. This is bear shifter Lowe, and park ranger Cameo’s story line.

NOTE: Some of the events of RESCUED BY HER BEAR run parallel to, and cross over with some of the events of book one STOLEN BY HER BEAR.

Told from dual third person perspectives, covering approximately twenty four hours, RESCUED BY HER BEAR, follows the quick building romance and relationship between bear shifter Lowe, and park ranger Cameo. Cameo is on the run in the wake of the murder of her brother, and threats against her life but wherever she goes, the drug cartel with whom her brother was working, wanted their money, believing our heroine was good for the coin. Hoping to lose the men in the Black Ridge mountains, Cameo finds herself injured, in both body and soul. Enter bear shifter Lowe, and the man with whom Cameo will fall in love. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Cameo and Lowe, and the potential fall-out as Lowe’s secrets are about to be revealed, and the men hunting for Cameo take aim at Lowe.

The relationship between Lowe and Cameo is quick to develop. Lowe suspects Cameo is his fated mate, and struggles with the possibility that our heroine may leave when she discovers the truth. Desperate to protect the woman that calls to his heart, Lowe is willing to risk the wrath of his Alpha, looking forward to his own happily ever after. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters include Alpha Saint and his mate (cougar shifter) Holly; Lowe’s twin brother Knox; bear shifter Rune and Maverick, and cougar shifter doctor Yasmin. The requisite evil has many faces.

RESCUED BY HER BEAR is a quick read; a fast paced story of insta-love between a shifter bear and a human female, a human who is willing to kill to protect her mate. The premise is dramatic; the characters are edgy; the romance is intimate. RESCUED BY HER BEAR ends on a happily ever after-for now, as the trouble following Cameo has yet to be rectified.
