In the dramatic conclusion to the Ravenwood Coven series by NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan, this sleeping magical paranormal town knows that war can be a beginning…and an ending.

Rowen Ravenwood is the final witch of her line—the only one standing in the way of Oriel, the dark necromancer who wants the core of the town’s magic for his own. With each passing battle and loss, Rowen is one step closer to losing it all if she doesn’t rely on the one man she refuses to love again. Only this time she might not have a choice when family secrets come to light.

Ash Christopher’s family curse hit him harder than anyone knows. He’s cool, relentless, and only feels what he needs to in order to survive. He’s gained everything in power and lost all else to his ambition—including Rowen. After all, a man cannot have a soul mate when he does not possess a soul.

The town of Ravenwood is dying and as the final battles come to pass, it will take the courage of a coven reborn, a mating bond broken, and a love worth fighting for in order to save all before it is lost.

REVIEW:The Ravenwood Coven series has come to an end, but what an end it was! The final installment of C.A.R’s paranormal romance series left me with a yearning for my own kind of magical happy ending.

Who doesn’t love a good fight between good and evil? I mean come on friends we were raised on Disney stories! Rowen is the last one, the one to stop Creepy, McCreepster; Oriel, the big baddie that wants to take away all the magic. Rowen is struggling to overcome Oriel, every step, every loss, every battle is harder and harder than the one before. The town is counting on her, her family is counting on her, but she needs help.

Just not from the one person she knows she needs it from.

Ash.

The one she loved and lost, and refuses to ever love again. Just like Rowen, Ash has his own family curse, one that takes his soul. A soul that used to be her. Rowen and Ash have a broken hearted love story that shakes up the plot and keeps the story spinning and spinning. I love how fast paced this story was, we got everything we wanted for the conclusion. Answers are revealed, curses are lifted and as a dedicated romance reader, I got the happy ending I wanted so much.

Way to go C.A.R for finishing another amazing series!

REVIEW:EVE OF DESTRUCTION is the first instalment in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s adult THE LEAGUE: EVE OF DESTRUCTION sci-if, fantasy series-a prequel novella series to the author’s THE LEAGUE. This is mercenary for hire Eve Erixour, and League assassin Jinx Shadowbourne’s story line. Eve is Jayne Erixour’s (BORN OF BLOOD) sister.

NOTE: EVE OF DESTRUCTION is a prequel to BORN OF BLOOD.

Told from third person perspective EVE OF DESTRUCTION takes place before the events of BORN OF NIGHT, book one in Sherrilyn’s THE LEAGUE series. Eve Erixour is a mercenary for hire and League assassin Jinx Shadowborne saves our heroine from an unanticipated attack. Hours later, Eve will discover a badly injured Jinx, and with the help of her friend Jedi, brings Jinx to her apartment in an effort to save his life. One glorious night spent with an injured League assassin finds Eve pining for a man she knows could be her death but with her sister Jayne locked away in a League prison for the sins of her father, Eve struggles with what could have been.

Meanwhile Jinx, embittered about the past, and hating his life with The League, finds himself the target of a League assassination order, and does one final act to help the woman he loves.

EVE OF DESTRUCTION is a fast paced, short story of insta-love; a novella that reveals some of the background, familiar characters and history before the events of THE LEAGUE. The character driven premise is revealing and enjoyable; the characters are captivating; the $ex scenes are intimate and enthusiastic.

Description:
Single mom Robyn Caldwell needs a new plan for her future.  She has always put her family first.  Now, with her kids grown, she yearns for a change. But what can she do when her daughter has become the most demanding bride ever, her son won’t even consider college, her best friend is on the brink of marital disaster and her ex is making a monumentally bad decision that could ruin everything?

Take a vacation, of course. Press reset. When her great-aunt Lillian invites her to Santa Barbara for the summer, Robyn hops on the first plane to sunny California.

But it’s hard to get away when you’re the heart of the family. One by one, everyone she loves follows her across the country. Somehow, their baggage doesn’t feel as heavy in the sun-drenched, mishmash mansion. The more time Robyn spends with free-spirited Lillian, the more possibilities she sees—for dreams, love, family. She can have everything she ever wanted, if only she can muster the courage to take a chance on herself.

Review:

The Summer Getaway by Susan Mallery is another one of her wonderful family & romance novels. Robyn Caldwell, our heroine, is divorced and has two grown up children; she feels like everything is falling apart in her life; as she needs to make a decision on selling her house.

When her daughter, Harlow, who is engaged, insists that she wants her wedding to held at the backyard of their house, she becomes belligerent when she learns her mother is planning to sell. Robyn tries to explain that her ex-husband, Cord, wants the half of the sale and time is running out; she can no longer afford living there; but Harlow is beyond reasoning, only caring about herself. Austin, her son, just graduated high school and is working for his father.  He is very close to Robyn, but she worries, since she feels that he should go to college, not depend on his father’s fishing charter business. Her ex-husband becomes involved with Harlow’s fiancée’s sister (20 years younger), and her best friend, despite her warnings, is cheating on her husband.  Robyn is stressed to the max, as she always puts her family first, but now she receives a call from her great aunt, Lillian, to visit her this summer in Santa Barbara, California; it took her a day to decide this is what she needed, to get away and spend time with her beloved aunt.

Aunt Lillian, is 94 years old, and lives in a huge mansion that has secret rooms, priceless antiques, and considered a historical mansion; she also has 15 cats.  Lillian was thrilled to see Robyn, and introduced her to Mason Bishop, a distant relative of her deceased husband.  Mason is a former army veteran, and also writes on the side. Robyn, at first was a bit worried about Mason, but in a very short time, they became friends; as Lillian had already told them that Mason will inherit the mansion and Robyn will get all the contents (antiques, books, papers) within.  Lillian keeps pushing Robyn to move to California and open her own antique store, since she will be able to sell all the valuable items in the house.  Mason and Robyn begin to spend a lot of time together, and the attraction between them escalates, as they both realize that they are perfect for each other.  Will Robyn allow herself to fall in love again.

What follows is a wonderful story of family; especially as each one of those at home in Florida, slowly show up at Lillian’s home to be with Robyn.  She is surprised when Austin shows up, with Harlow, who apologizes on how nasty and angry she was to her mom.  But it doesn’t end there, as in a short period, her ex-husband, ex-boyfriend, best friend, Harlow’s Fiancée and his sister all show up; fortunately the house was big enough to accommodate almost everyone.

The Summer Getaway was a wonderful storyline, that pushes all the buttons of a family, with emotions, drama, anger, divorce, hope, struggles and even sex.  Robyn was the center of this story, and I thought she was great.  I really rooted hard that she would end up with Mason. Another fantastic book that was very well written by Susan Mallery, which kept me unable to put the book down. I suggest you read The Summer Getaway.

ONE

“I’m going to sleep with Dimitri.”
Robyn Caldwell picked up her glass of white wine and briefly thought about swallowing the entire contents in one gulp. Mindy’s statement was certainly gulp-worthy. But she knew pacing herself through lunch was the responsible thing to do. A lesson her friend had yet to learn.
“You are not,” Robyn murmured, because shrieking wasn’t attractive. Especially at “the club,” where their friends and frenemies were also enjoying Thursday’s lobster salad. The dining room was filled with forty or so women, all dressed in Florida chic—diamonds sparkling, gold or platinum charm bracelets clinking, necklaces resting on tanned and toned skin.
“I might,” Mindy Krause said, picking up her champagne. “He’s gorgeous.”
“Of course. He’s a thirty-year-old tennis pro. What else would he be?”
Mindy, a petite brunette who was six months from turning forty, sighed. “I need a Dimitri in my life.”
“You have a great husband. Payne loves you and the kids, and never has eyes for another woman. Why would you screw that up?”
“Payne would never know.”
“There aren’t any secrets in this town. Not in our social circle.”
Something Robyn had learned the hard way herself. She’d been blissfully unaware of her ex-husband’s affairs until a “friend” had oh-so-sweetly informed her.
“Maybe just some kissing,” Mindy mused. “I want a little Dimitri action. The fantasies make me happy, so imagine what the real thing would do.”
“The fantasies are safe. The real thing could destroy everything you have. Knowing you’ve cheated would devastate Payne.”
Mindy’s mouth formed a pout. “I never see him anymore. All he does is work.”
Robyn stared at her friend-slash-boss. “You two talked about how that promotion would be more work for him but that it would be worth it. You wanted this for him.”
“I didn’t know how much he’d be gone.”
The unreasonable statement grated nearly as much as Mindy’s whine. “This isn’t a good look for you,” Robyn murmured. “You’re changing the rules without telling your husband. That never ends well.”
Mindy dismissed the warning with a quick shake of her head. “I’m not worried. Besides, if he does find out, I can just move in with you.” She laughed. “You’ll soon have that big house all to yourself.”
“You have four kids,” Robyn pointed out. “If things go south in your marriage, I’d rather have Payne move in.”
“Well, that would get people talking.” Mindy held up her empty glass to the server. “More, please.”
The server obliged.
Mindy took another sip. “My sister called, swears she found a Thomas Pister chest in a tiny shop in Wales. It’s dirt cheap, so I’m afraid it’s a fake. She’s looking for someone to prove authenticity. Wouldn’t that be a find?”
“It would. I’d love to see it.”
Thomas Pister had built beautiful chests and cabinets in the late 1600s and early 1700s. His intricate designs with stunning inlays sold quickly and for huge amounts. Depending on the condition and the materials, a good-sized chest of drawers could go for sixty or eighty thousand dollars.

She crooks a finger, beckoning me closer. But there’s only six inches separating us. If I take a step forward, my boots will touch her toes. So I bend instead, until my ear is next to her lips, like I’m waiting for her to tell me a secret.
For a moment I consider the fact that I’ve been up and down the stairs to the loft at least a dozen times. The only air circulation in here is from a portable fan, so I’ve been sweating and shirtless for several hours. I might not smell all that fresh.
But that thought disappears when her fingertips drag along my collarbone and I feel the warmth of her breath at the edge of my jaw.
“Aaron.”
Her palm wraps around the back of my neck. So soft. So warm.
I swallow and grind out, “I’m listening.”
Her thumb finds that spot between my ear and my jaw, and she presses, gently at first and then more firmly. Her lips brush the shell of my ear, and she whispers, “Look at me.”
I feel like a marionette, and she’s pulling all my strings. I turn my head toward her, and her lips brush across my cheek, sending a hot shiver down my spine, lighting me up like a pinball machine.
Teagan Firestone is a dangerous woman. Sweet, beautiful, broken, and yet . . . bold and resilient. She’s a lethal combination, and it’s all compounded when those soft lips meet mine.
I don’t even know what’s happening. Well, I know. I’m kissing her. Or she’s kissing me. She definitely started it.
It’s like an explosion. Like an entire warehouse of firecrackers igniting at the same time. I groan into her mouth and wrap an arm around her waist, pulling her flush against me.
Our tongues tangle, and her other hand grips my biceps, sliding up and over my shoulder. She knocks my hat off my head, and it drops to the floor behind me. And then both of her hands are in my hair, sliding through the damp strands, gripping at the crown, angling my head farther to the side. Deepening the kiss.
Dragging it out.

REVIEW:WICKED AS SEDUCTION is the first instalment in Shayla Black’s contemporary, adult WICKED AS SEDUCTION: TREES AND LAILA erotic, romantic suspense duet, and the fifth instalment in the author’s WICKED AND DEVOTED series. This is former elite soldier and tech six Forest ‘Trees’ Scott, and Laila Torres’ story line. WICKED AS SEDUCTION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommended reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion. Trees was first introduced in the author’s Devoted Lovers series.

NOTE: If you are a fan of Shayla Black’s Wicked Lovers, and Devoted Lovers series, you may recognize some of the characters as Wicked and Devoted crosses over with both of the aforementioned series.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from third person perspective WICKED AS SEDUCTION focuses on the building but acrimonious relationship between former elite soldier and tech wiz Forest ‘Trees’ Scott, and Laila Torres. Laila Torres spent the majority of her life forced into sexual slavery by the Mexican Cartel but several months earlier our heroine and her sister Valeria were rescued by the team at EM Security, a team that included Forest ‘Trees’ Scott. The Cartel is demanding the return of Laila, her sister Valeria, and her sister’s son, and begin a search for our story line heroine. Hoping to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love, Trees Scott becomes guardian and protector of Laila Torres, a woman who struggles to trust, and believes every action is a prelude to bargaining or a payment. While her sister Valeria and young child are taken into protective custody by the EM Security Team, Trees and Laila find themselves on the run, barely one step ahead of the Mexican Cartel. What ensues is the building but embattled and cautious relationship between Trees and Laila, and the potential fall-out as Laila’s inability to trust, and her need to find her sister, continue to place our heroine in the direct line of fire.

Laila Torres does not trust Forest ‘Trees’ Scott, and makes his life miserable by trying to escape at every opportunity. Laila believes it is only a matter of time before our hero demands payment for her rescue and safety, and Laila refuses to owe anyone including the man who offers up everything else. Trees Scott fell for our heroine from the moment of rescue but Laila was in no position for a romantic relationship. With the Mexican Cartel on the hunt, Laila finds herself working with EM Security, and a man she refuses to accept regardless of his promise to keep her safe.

Meanwhile, all is not well at EM Security when the team suspects a mole in their midst. From One-Mile and Trees most recent missions, information is leaked, and one of their own is suspected of betrayal and deceit.

The relationship between Laila and Trees is cautious, acerbic, emotional and intense. Laila Torres is broken, and is unable to trust our story line hero. Rumors continue to circulate about a betrayer at EM Security, and Laila begins to suspect it is the man hired to protect and hide her from the Mexican Cartel. Trees Scott struggles to prove he is trustworthy; that he is not the mole, but the only man for our story line heroine. Laila’s need to run makes her a little TSTL, as she continues to push Trees closer to the edge, an edge from which he may never return. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate, erotic and seductive.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters many of whom we have met in previous story lines including One-Mile, Colonel Caleb Edgington, and his sons Hunter Edgington, Logan Edgington, Kane Preston, Deke Trenton, Joaquin Munoz , Zyron Garrett, PA Tessa Lawrence and her daughter Hallie, as well as Laila’s sister Valeria. The requisite evil has many faces.

WICKED AS SEDUCTION is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, coercion and blackmail, an inability to trust, family and love. The premise is captivating, gritty, and heart breaking; the romance is provocative but struggles in the face of Laila’s history of capture and abuse; the characters are broken, energetic, charismatic and lost. WICKED AS SEDUCTION ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned

The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James – a Review

The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
In 1977, Claire Lake, Oregon, was shaken by the Lady Killer Murders: Two men, seemingly randomly, were murdered with the same gun, with strange notes left behind. Beth Greer was the perfect suspect–a rich, eccentric twenty-three-year-old woman, seen fleeing one of the crimes. But she was acquitted, and she retreated to the isolation of her mansion.

Oregon, 2017. Shea Collins is a receptionist, but by night, she runs a true crime website, the Book of Cold Cases–a passion fueled by the attempted abduction she escaped as a child. When she meets Beth by chance, Shea asks her for an interview. To Shea’s surprise, Beth says yes.

They meet regularly at Beth’s mansion, though Shea is never comfortable there. Items move when she’s not looking, and she could swear she’s seen a girl outside the window. The allure of learning the truth about the case from the smart, charming Beth is too much to resist, but even as they grow closer, Shea senses something isn’t right. Is she making friends with a manipulative murderer, or are there other dangers lurking in the darkness of the Greer house?

Review:

The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James is another one of her excellent psychological thrillers.  The story takes place in Claire Lake, Oregon and revolves around two POV’s; Beth in 1977 and Shea in 2017.

By day, Shea Collins works as a receptionist at a doctor’s office and at night, she runs a blog website called the Book of Cold Cases. Shea is obsessed with solving true crimes, especially since she was abducted as a child, and luckily managed to escape; she continues to be haunted by that memory. The man who attempted to abduct her, was caught and sent to prison, with a possible parole coming up; which makes her nervous.

In 1977, Beth Greer, who lives in alone in a huge mansion, very wealthy and only 23 years old; when two men were murdered during the night, with the same gun that killed her father, Beth is accused of the crime. They called her the Lady Killer, as one man claims to have seen her near the crime scene. After a major investigation and trial, Beth was acquitted, and no real evidence could be found, as she returned to her mansion, to be rarely seen.

One day, while at work, Shea is shocked to see someone from the past, who is in the office to meet the doctor. Face to face with the infamous Beth Greer, she asks if she could have an interview with her; and a few days later, Beth agrees to meet with Shea, at her mansion. Shea will learn quickly when she realizes the mansion is haunted, as she hears footsteps, water being turned on, draws opening, cold breeze of someone passing by, blood, and even seeing a young girl outside, enough the scare the crap out of anyone, and Beth was still sitting downstairs.  Make no mistake, this is a very scary, frightening story that had me holding my breath a number of times.

Despite her being scared, Shea is determined to find out the truth of what happened 40 years ago, as with Beth Pov’s we learn all about how her father and later her mother who were murdered; not to mention who was behind the Lady Killer Murders.  During the flash back to 1977, we do meet this new suspect, who no one really knew anything about.

What follows is an exciting, dark, suspenseful and creepy mystery in both time periods, which kept me hooked to find out what happened.  The mansion was very scary, as Shea found herself in a dark and dangerous place; to tell too much more would be spoilers.  The Book of Cold Cases was an intriguing story that was also a gothic thriller. If you enjoy suspenseful thrillers with a ghostly background, I suggest you read this book.

About the book: Release Date March 15, 2022.

I chose this. I wanted him. I knew he was complex and challenging and that he would never fit into any kind of conventional life.

That right there is just one of the reasons I fell so hard in love with him. And why I’ll always stay exactly where I fell. There’s no rising and flying away from Darius Hawke.

New York Times bestselling author Nina Lane returns with the Birdsong Trilogy, a provocative romance between two people whose forbidden love will set their lives—and the world—on fire.

REVIEW: WISHES AND WINGS is the third and final instalment in Nina Lane’s contemporary, adult BIRDSONG erotic, romantic suspense trilogy focusing on twenty-two year old Nell Fairchild , and forty-four year old, photojournalist Darius Hawke. WISHES AND WINGS should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book two FEATHER AND FLAME.

NOTE: WISHES AND WINGS focuses on terrorism and war, and was written prior to the attacks and invasion of Ukraine. If you have not read book one or two there may be spoilers in my review.

SOME BACKGROUND: After graduating from art school, Nell Fairchild was unable to find a job, and volunteered with an organization that was helping to rebuild the war torn country of Krasnovar, a country that holds devastating memories and pain for Darius Hawke. Another war was encroaching on the small Eastern European country, and Nell finds herself battling between head and heart when the man that she loves, risks everything, including his life, to rescue our story line heroine.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Darius and Nell), and third person (Henry) WISHES AND WINGS picks up immediately after the events of FEATHER AND FLAME wherein Nell has left Europe, only to return to the USA in the wake of civil war in the Eastern European country of Krasnovar, leaving behind the man that she loves, a man now in the hands of the people in charge. Desperate for Darius’ release, Nell goes to the one person she believes can save our story line hero but secrets and lies begin to spin a tale of treachery and death, forcing Nell to do anything to protect Darius Hawke. On the run, our couple must come to terms with the betrayal by someone close, a betrayal that is bigger than anyone could have imagined. What ensues is the building relationship and love between Darius and Nell, and the potential fall-out as greed and power place our couple in the direct line of fire.

The relationship between Darius and Nell is an age-gap, love affair in which Darius step-sister was Nell’s embattled and struggling mother. Nell’s early years were fraught with grief and loss, while Darius’ barely survived the brutality of a father whose ultimate aim was to control by coercion and power. Nell fell in love with Darius years before but their relationship will be scrutinized placing another target on our story line couple. The $ex scenes are passionate, seductive and profound.

The secondary and supporting characters include Nell’s dad Henry Fairchild and his girlfriend Fern; Darius’ father Conrad Hawke, as well as several characters we had previously met in Krasnovar.

WISHES AND WINGS is a story of the ultimate betrayal, power and control, vengeance and greed, love and moving forward. The premise is emotional and dramatic; the characters are determined and charismatic; the romance is captivating and intense.

New York Times & USA Today bestselling author Nina Lane writes hot, sexy romances about professors, bad boys, candy makers, and protective alpha males who find themselves consumed with love for one woman alone. Originally from California, Nina holds a PhD in Art History and an MA in Library and Information Studies, which means she loves both research and organization. She also enjoys traveling and thinks St. Petersburg, Russia is a city everyone should visit at least once. Although Nina would go back to college for another degree because she’s that much of a bookworm and a perpetual student, she now lives the happy life of a full-time writer.
