REVIEW: RAGING WITCH is the third novella in Melody Raven’s contemporary, adult DANGEROUS MAGIC DIVISION paranormal, suspense series focusing on a powerful witch Sonia Shaw, and the Dangerous Magic Division of Homeland Security. RAGING WITCH should not be read as a stand alone, as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book two LONE WITCH.

NOTE: Melody Raven has retitled, recovered and reissued her DANGEROUS MAGIC series. Book one Blood Magic is now Atomic Witch: Book two: Kindred Magic is now Long Witch. RAGING WITCH is the author’s new release.

Told from first person perspective (Sonia) RAGING WITCH follows witch Sonia Shaw in the aftermath of a violent take down and killing of another supernatural power. Sonia struggles to find her place in the DMD, the Dangerous Magic Division of Homeland Security, a division that supervises and controls the paranormal but Sonia’s powers are unstable; her boyfriend Ian was killed then was later reanimated as NotIan; Sonia was responsible for arresting her own father; and her boss, werewolf Carter Blackburn, battles his hatred for a woman he knows was only doing her job. As the team at the DMD continue to take down the baddest of the bad, Sonia is assigned to investigate the haunting of a local frat house, a haunting that could mean the end of the world.

RAGING WITCH is a story of secrets and lies, magic and power. Sonia Shaw’s powers are unstable and no one is able to show our heroine how to control or use what should come by naturally. Bound by magic, Sonia walks amongst the supernatural but without her power, she is wandering alone. Someone or something is set to take over the world, and our heroine is caught in the middle. The fast paced premise is intriguing and enchanting; the characters are energetic and powerful. RAGING WITCH is a quick read that sets up the backstory for what is to come.

REVIEW:*Squeal*

Flirt is the PERFECT title for this book. What a way to kick off the new series by the lovely Adriana Locke. The Carmichael’s have officially won number one spot as the coolest family series!

You want a book that is swoon worthy? This is it! Sweet, flirty chemistry and spicy hotness to boot, Brooke and Moss set the pages off with their story.

Okie dokie fellow readers, let’s get down to it. Flirt is a standalone, (for now) fake dating romance that leads to true love. Brooke and Moss are co-workers who make a deal to fake date one another to help each other out. Both have their own reasons as to why they don’t do relationships that later come to light, but it’s safe to say neither were ready for their dating to start feeling so real.

Flirt is so fun and well flirty, sweet and steamy with a small town feel and an amazing family attached. The banter, the pranks and yes even the drama make the story feel full and wholesome. The Carmichael’s series is going to be a new adventure that I can’t wait to sink my teeth into!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 7 2022.

He’s a hired gun. A hardened killer. So how’d he end up bottle-feeding lambs for his best friend’s sister?

Dante didn’t set out to deceive. His favor for a pal in prison got him this farmhand job, and Jen needs help guarding more than her blueberries. Someone’s set on hurting her, and he’ll make damn sure they don’t. She can’t know who sent him or why he’s handier with a handgun than a hoe. But none of that matters more than keeping Jen safe.

To save the girl, he’ll have to pair old skills with new. A princess tea party and an old-fashioned gunfight? Why not. Grape stomping and grenades? Sign him up.

But as the enemy closes in, there’s one skill Dante finds he doesn’t have: The strength to walk away when the job is done.

REVIEW:KILLER INSTINCTS is the first instalment in Tawna Fenske’s contemporary, adult ASSASSINS IN LOVE erotic, romantic suspense series. This is assassin for hire Dante Goodman and twenty-six year old, vintner Jennifer Bello’s story line.

NOTE: For fans of Tawna Fenske, there is a slight cross over with the author’s PONDEROSA RESORT series. This is NOT a rom-com…there is nothing funny or humorous in the premise. Some of the retailers have titled this story as a rom-com.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Dante and Jen) KILLER INSTINCTS follows the building romance and relationship between assassin for hire Dante Goodman and twenty-six year old, vintner Jennifer Bello. Jennifer Bello needs to hire a handyman, a farmhand to help with the upkeep at the family owned winery but her ex-fiance is demanding his share of the profits and the business. Enter Dante Goodman, a mysterious stranger whom our heroine believes is her new employee but the man with whom Jennifer will fall in love. Unaware of Dante’s real reasons for working on the farm, Jennifer finds herself on the defensive when she is targeted by three potential enemies including a hotel chain hoping Jennifer sells. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Jennifer and Dante, and the potential fall-out as the threats against our heroine become personal, and the truth about Dante’s identity is revealed.

Dante Goodman is an assassin for hire but our hero also works security and safety. As a favor to Matteo Bello, currently in prison for a crime he did not commit, Dante agrees to ‘keep an eye’ on Matteo’s sister, knowing that to cross the invisible line could be the end of a possible friendship. Jennifer Bello is struggling to make ends meet, and the threats from her former fiance are only adding fuel to the fire. With the help of Dante Goodman, Jennifer puts a plan into place to help save the winery never realizing the real enemy is but a smile away.

The relationship between Dante and Jen is one of immediate attraction; a forced proximity/forbidden relationship in which Dante wants what he cannot have, and Jennifer struggles in the face of secrets and lies. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced, via phone, to Jennifer’s brother and Dante’s friend Matteo, their sister Nicole, as well as Dr. Sebastian LaDouceur-Dante and Matteo’s comrade in arms; and Jennifer’s ex Johnny and his fiance Penelope.

REVIEW:SAVE ME is the second instalment in Vi Carter’s contemporary, new adult BROKEN PEOPLE dark, erotic, romance duet focusing on nineteen year olds Jared McGivney and Layla Masters. SAVE ME can not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one DECEIVE ME. There is a slight cross over with the author’s Young Irish Rebels/ Wild Irish series.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers. If you have not read book one there may be spoilers in my review.

SOME BACKGROUND: Jared and Layla met and grew up in the foster care system, a system that let down our story line couple. Seven years earlier, following a catastrophic injury, twelve year old, Layla disappeared, leaving Jared to fight the system, and their abusers, on his own.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jared and Layla) SAVE ME picks up immediately after the cliff hanger of book one DECEIVE ME in which Layla is the victim of an attack that has left our heroine struggling to survive. Unable to recall the events leading up to that fateful night, Layla struggles with the confusion only to realize the young man she has always loved is keeping secrets about what happened and why. Battling between head and heart, Layla’s love for Jared never falters but his secrets and lies are threatening the tepid truce and reconciliation between our story line couple. As Jared sets a plan into motion seeking to avenge the attack on Layla Masters, ghosts from the past resurface threatening to take down the man that Layla loves.

The relationship between Layla and Jared continues to grow; a second chance love affair between two people broken by the system, destroyed by betrayal, power and control but all is not well in the McGivney household, and another betrayal is about to tear Jared apart. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Layla’s adopted parents Evelyn and Carl Masters; Jared’s father Athar McGivney, and his mother Maura; Irish Mafia son Warren O’Reagan (Young Irish Rebels series); as well as fellow students Ashley, Abby, and Caroline, and the mean girls including Jared’s ex Alex. The requisite evil have many faces.

SAVE ME is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, obsession and control, desperation, power, greed and love. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are struggling, broken but trying to heal. There is quite a bit going on; quite a few twists and turns, and surprising revelations but saying that I felt there were too many details missing with regards to the divulging of the truth and the past- I was hoping for more intimate specifics and particulars.

ABOUT THE BOOK: APRIL 7, 2022.

Making something off-limits will always make that thing more appealing.
Jules Warren, my sister’s best friend, was no different.
She has been the leading lady in every fantasy I’ve had since I was a teenager.
There was no way I was turning her down when she invited me to her room.
Those fantasies? They had nothing on the real thing.
I was given the weekend to make my dreams come true.
The ramifications, however, will last a lifetime.
Keeping a secret is one thing.
Living with the lies is impossible.

••••••

REVIEW:CEASE FIRE is the ninth instalment in Marie James’ contemporary, adult BLACKBRIDGE SECURITY erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Blackbridge Security. This is thirty two year old Christopher ‘Kit’ Riggs, and thirty five year old Jules Warren’s story line. CEASE FIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jules and Kit) CEASE FIRE follows the friends to lovers, best friend’s brother relationship between thirty two year old Christopher ‘Kit’ Riggs, and thirty five year old Jules Warren. It’s the weekend of Kit Riggs’ sister’s wedding and all Kit can think about is his sister’s best friend Jules Warren. Jules has starred in Kit’s dream and fantasies for as long as he can remember and the weekend of the wedding all of his fantasies are about to come true but a return to reality meant keeping their weekend affair a secret, a secret Jules is hoping to keep for a very long time. What ensues is the building relationship between Kit and Jules, and the potential fall-out as Jules’ secrets take on a life of their own, secrets that are about to push our hero out of her life.

Jules Warren has lusted and loved her best friend’s brother since they were teens but Jules feared losing her best friend if she crossed an invisible line between friendships and love. All of the Riggs’ brothers were off limits but Jules wanted what she could not have. Kit Riggs has lusted after his sister’s best friend for as long as he can remember but one heart breaking moment sent Kit into a spiral, a spiral that lasted for close to eight years.

The relationship between Kit and Jules is a best friend’s younger brother, friends to lovers relationship between two people who had been warned to stay clear of one another. Years earlier Kit’s sister laid down the law ensuring none of her brothers attempted a relationship with her best friend Jules but Kit knew that Jules would always be the woman he loved, regardless of the heart breaking realization that Jules didn’t want him, in return. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.

All of the Blackbridge Security team return as secondary and supporting characters including Brooks, Wren, Deacon, Quinten, Ignacio, Flynn, Jude, Gaige and Finn. We are introduced to Kit’s family: sister Beth, and brothers Jason, Anders and Gannon as well as their parent Marjorie and Walter.

CEASE FIRE is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and acceptance, forgiveness and love but a story that deviates from the suspense aspect as it solely focuses on the relationship between our story line couple. There is no outside conflict; no dangerous suspense, and no threats to anyone’s safety or life. The premise is captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are colorful and charismatic..but saying that..I had a difficult time accepting Jules Warren-her duplicity, her lies, her actions and her attitude-she was not a very likeable character. She only cared about herself, and in doing so, emotionally hurt several people in the process. I struggled to enjoy the overall story line-I struggled to find anything redeeming about our story line heroine.

Let’s see…where to begin…

I have an amazing husband. We have two boys we’re doing our best to raise as respectful gentleman.

I have a master’s degree in criminal justice which I used to work as a juvenile probation office until deciding to write full-time in June of 2019. So that means there’s usually always some criminal/law element to my novels.

If I’m not writing; I’m reading.

My favorite genres recently are bully/reverse harem and enemies to lovers. Maybe I’m reliving my traumatic teen years through the girls who actually end up with the boys. (Not that I would change my history since it’s gotten me exactly where I need to be!)

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 4, 2022.

There was absolutely no way she was falling for her neighbor. No matter how gorgeous he was.

Aurora Keller thought she’d lucked out when she decided to put down roots in Redemption, Tennessee. She had a new business, new friends, and a picture-perfect little house. There was just one problem, and it came in the form of her six-foot-three tattooed, muscle-bound neighbor from hell, who just so happened to be her best friend’s future brother-in-law. It really wasn’t fair that Satan’s offspring was so nice to look at.

Callum Morrison wasn’t a good man. Or at least that was what he’d convinced himself. After a series of bad decisions that had resulted in the worst years of his life, all he was looking for was peace and quiet. Too bad he bought a house right next door to the one woman he wanted but could never have. That was enough to make any man grumpy.

What had started as a war against two neighbors turned into something so much more.

And if they aren’t careful, the fallout could destroy them both.

••••••

REVIEW:JP just does it for me! Every time I pick up one of her books, I am never let down. Blurred Lines is the sixth book in the Redemption series and continues on with characters we’ve met before.

We’re back to small town living in Tennessee, and back to characters that we love. Rora is one of a kind, probably one of the most unique characters I have ever read. She’s sunshine and soulful, but now her life has a tiny little gray cloud in the form of Callum.

Grumpy Callum, her new next store neighbor. These two butt heads from the very beginning, but it’s so funny and sexy that you can’t help but want to read more and more. Callum has done his time and paid his dues for his past, but for him it’s more, his redemption isn’t in his future. When he buys the busted up farm house, hoping to fix it up and settle in, he’s surprised to find that the one woman he can’t keep out of his head lives in the house next store. The spitfire that haunts his dreams and occupies parts of his heart that he thought was long dead, Aurora.

When Rora decides to help Callum out, she ends up starting to like him more and more. When his family brings their drama to his door, it’s Rora that is up in their face defending him. Poor Callum is falling deeper and deeper into Rora, but doesn’t think he is good enough for her or that he deserves her. Rora makes it her mission to heal Callum, but when his hot and cold vibes get to be too much for her to deal with she has a hard time letting go.

Callum and Rora are hot and cold, flighting and dramatic, but they are so funny at the same time, you can’t help but love reading their story. I love how no matter what Callum does, Rora keeps trying to heal him and make him realize that he is worth love, that he deserves to receive it and give it. Rora is that balm that Callum needs in his life, and Callum is that love that Rora has been searching for. This book really does have it all, twists, turns, drama and spice. Their HEA is one for the books.

Girl on the Run by Carolyn Arnold – a Review

Girl on the Run by Carolyn Arnold – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Shivers tear through her, but she must be brave—for herself, for her future. She grips her coat tighter and steps into the night and the cold, pouring rain. Never to be seen again.

An ordinary Monday morning commute turns deadly when a gunman opens fire in the local train station. Detective Madison Knight rushes to the scene, but she’s too late for the victims. Two women were fatally wounded, including an expectant mother, and one is fighting for her life. But it’s the face of one of the dead that has Madison seeing a ghost from her past. She looks just like Madison’s college friend Courtney Middleton, who vanished over fifteen years ago. If it is her, where has she been all these years, and does her resurfacing have anything to do with the shooting?

Eyewitnesses say that a young woman triggered the incident, but both the shooter and the girl seem to have evaporated into thin air. Mounting evidence suggests they may be part of a drug-trafficking operation, the girl being one of their runners. But Madison’s not so sure the girl is the hardened criminal she appears to be.

As Madison races to track down the young woman, more people turn up murdered, and there’s still no sign of the girl. Is her body out there to find or is she on the run? If the latter, is it due to fear or guilt? Could it simply be that the shooting victims were caught in the crosshairs of organized crime? Madison’s not sure, but she can’t shake her niggling suspicion: what if it was something more than that?

Review:

Girl on the Run by Carolyn Arnold is the 11th book in her wonderful Detective Madison Knight series.  As I have noted a number of times in previous reviews, Carolyn Arnold always gives us exciting suspenseful murder mysteries, led by a great detective like Madison Knight; and Arnold’s knowledge of police procedurals makes these investigations perfect.

Madison, our heroine, is a tough detective for the Stiles Police Department, who will let nothing stand in her way to find the guilty.   She and her partner Terry, are called to the scene of a shooting at the Liberty Station, where two women are dead and one injured.  After interviewing people at the scene, they learn that a young women triggered the incident when she took some things behind the coffee counter, and those on line complained; only to see a man shoot at the ladies on line.  Both the girl and the shooter are no longer on the scene, and Madison and Terry begin a complex trail that will lead to drug trafficking and revenge.

What follows is an exciting, tense, action filled thriller with many suspects, as well as twists and surprising turns.   While interviewing some of the victim’s families, Madison will find herself shocked at a picture of someone in her past, who supposedly died 15 years ago.  Which will lead to Madison going over and above to revisit what happened all those years ago, and how it effects the murders of the present.  With the new evidence, as well as other murders, the last ¼ of the book was amazing with twists that Madison discovered, which we did not expect.

Girl on the Run was another fantastic, exciting, tense, riveting police procedural, so very well written by Carolyn Arnold.  Madison Knight is a great detective, though I thought she seemed a bit annoying early on; with that said, I dislike her Sergeant and still not crazy about her partner, Terry.  I do like her significant other, Troy, as well as the dog, Hershey.  If you enjoy mysteries, police procedurals, a tough as nails cop, then you need to be reading this series, as Carolyn Arnold is one of the best in police procedure stories.
