The numerous characters require a spread sheet in order to keep track of who, what and how; a map of Humboldt and the universe is necessary to know where you are at all times.

“Hey, Sean.” That was Joe, the bartender, an old cuss, wiping down the bar.
“Don’t call me, Sean.” That was the hunk sitting on the bar stool.
“That’s your name.”
“I know, but it sounds too girly. I’m trying to impress the broad.”
Sean’s eyes focused on her like laser beams set to stun. She was Jane to some, Janey to others; the latter more a term of affection. Either one couldn’t help but smile.
At six-foot-tall, Sean would have made a good quarterback. Anyone curious about how well he threw things could just trace the arc of the flying bodies. Muscles erupted out of him like pimples on teens. He showed them all off as a deterrent to anyone who deigned to question his bouncer status. That was a maroon long johns top stretched over his torso atop tight jeans. He must have a hundred pairs of jeans in back alone to get around all the split crotches with all the high kicking. This was definitely one high-kicking bar. Jane Macelvey could attest to one thing: the only people who did better high kicks than former special forces operatives were ballet dancers; and the latter only because they remembered to point their toes.

Ali Dansby knows that Harley is suffering but she refuses to be Harley’s proverbial punching bag because he is too stubborn to accept there is life after death. Everyone grieves and recovers at their own pace but Harley’s back and forth, up and down attitude with our story line heroine was threatening not only his recovery but Ali’s as well. Unable to compete with the ghost of his wife, Ali considers walking away but for the love a small child she loves as her own.

The relationship between Harley and Ali is one of immediate attraction but an unwanted attraction for our story line hero. Believing his need for Ali is dishonouring his late wife’s memory, Harley’s back and forth attitude and continuous mixed signals quickly push Ali out of his life. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of energetic and familiar secondary and supporting characters including many of the members of the Cerberus MC. We are introduced to Harley’s mother and his father Micah Cobreski, as well as newcomers Rick and Landon. Rick and Landon’s story line is next.

HARLEY is a story of grief and loss, struggle and acceptance, second chances and love. The premise is emotional and heart breaking; the characters are broken but recovering; the romance is captivating and seductive but struggles with the ghosts from the past.

Let’s see…where to begin…

I’m inching up on the BIG 4-0. The gray hairs are doubling what seems like daily, and the wrinkles and laugh lines are more pronounced than ever.

I have an amazing husband (Married just over 15 years.)

We have two boys we’re doing our best to raise as respectful gentleman.

I have a master’s degree in criminal justice which I used to work as a juvenile probation office until deciding to write full-time in June of 2019. So that means there’s usually always some criminal/law element to my novels.

If I’m not writing; I’m reading.

My favorite genres recently are bully/reverse harem and enemies to lovers. Maybe I’m reliving my traumatic teen years through the girls who actually end up with the boys. (Not that I would change my history since it’s gotten me exactly where I need to be!)

I love coffee. I miss carbs. Music is LIFE. I try not to be too serious.

PROLOGUE

I’ve been shot. It feels like fire ravages my body and mind. I try to roll onto my side, but my brain is scrambling and misfiring. From somewhere, I can hear Emmett so clearly, and then the fire rages, boiling the blood in my veins until I wish for death.

If I am alive, being so hurts too much. I say his name, pleading with him, but the anguish doesn’t end. His breathing is close to my face. I want to beg him to make this stop, but I can’t form the words. Then he’s gone, leaving me to die.

Through the pain and heat, light burns my eyes as I blink them open. Past the haze of pain, he’s there, a vision, leaning over me. So perfect. His mouth moves, but there’s no sound. My eyelids flutter closed against the pain that has latched on to me. It grows in intensity until I wish for death again. Cold sweeps in like a raging sea, taking the fire with it and leaving the ice in its wake. I shiver. My body rattles, and I manage to open my eyes.

Emmett’s face fills my view. Blood trickles down from a cut on his head. He’s screaming as men pull at him. I reach for him, and it’s like he’s given me permission to come back to him. He throws the men away from his arms, and he’s there again, his breath on my face, fear in his eyes.

“I love you. I can’t live without you.” His words give me peace, and I smile; my eyelids grow heavy.

Emmett is moving away from me again, being dragged by Gardaí. His mouth opens in a roar as he tries to push them away. I’m slipping, and everything grows cloudy. He continues to fight, but there are too many of them. They cover Emmett as they take him to the ground. His eyes, so full of pain, are the last thing I see before the cold captures me fully. As my lids close, I realize there’s no more pain. No more anything.

I’m walking through a field of lilies, and I can hear her sweet little laugh. My heart bursts with joy as I run my hands along the flowers and search for my little girl.

“Pretty sure you did give him a few shoves at the ping pong table.” I raised my eyebrows and she laughed softly.
“Only because I wanted to win and he kept screwing up.”
“Karis, guys should be able to read women’s signs. Anyone looking at you two would have seen that you weren’t into him like that. But Ferris has it bad, and he’s ignoring it or in denial. Telling himself it’s because you’re inexperienced or something.”
“So I should have told him to back off or pushed him away earlier if you hadn’t shown up? Even though it would have made it awkward when I saw him at BTC, which is practically every day in the summer?”
“You would let a guy kiss you, your first kiss, so you didn’t hurt his feelings?”
Karis laughed again and the rage beating inside me dimmed slightly. “Okay,” she conceded. “You’re right.”
“You didn’t have any trouble pushing me away the other night,” I reminded her. And she’d been turned on, I hadn’t misread that. She’d liked how my body felt crowding hers.

This is twenty-five year old, chef and musician Josiah ‘Jagger’ Jones, and thirty year old attorney Dierdra de Messieres’s story line. MAYBE WE CON’T can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Jagger and Dierdra) MAYBE WE WON’T focuses on the building romance and relationship between twenty-five year old, chef and musician Josiah ‘Jagger’ Jones, and thirty year old attorney Dierdra de Messieres. Several months earlier Dierdra’s alcoholic mother died, and our heroine struggled in the aftermath, discovering her mother had a secret that was about to be exposed. Fast forward to present day wherein Dierdra is passed over for a promotion at the law firm, and our heroine embarks on a two month hiatus back home in Silver Island where our heroine will discover there is more to life than working hard for someone else. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

As per Melissa Foster’s style, there is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and familiar characters having crossed over from the previous instalments as well as several of the author’s related series. We are reintroduced to Dierdra’s sisters Cait and Abby, as well as many of the locals who live and work in and around Silver Island.

MAYBE WE WON’T is a story of family and friendships, relationships and struggles, acceptance and recognition, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is emotional, entertaining and consuming; the characters are tenacious and dynamic; the romance is seductive and hot.
