ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 6, 2022

After two confidential informants are murdered by a drug lord the DEA has spent months trying to bust, agent Avery Carmichael is ordered to go undercover.

She’s going to need some help infiltrating the outlaw world, which is where the hottest, most infuriating man she’s ever met comes in.

Remy Fulton is the president of the newest Savage Kings MC chapter in Rockland, Virginia. When his younger brother RJ gets into legal trouble, he reluctantly agrees to help the prissy snob with her undercover operation to keep RJ out of prison.

Pretending to be the biker’s latest conquest may prove much more difficult than Avery anticipated. From the moment they meet, Remy argues with her over every little thing. He’s especially furious with her when he finds out she’ll be staying with him for weeks, sharing his home and his entire life.

Their friends and family can’t find out their relationship is fake because blowing their cover could inevitably put Avery’s life in danger.

It’s no secret that the two don’t initially trust or respect each other. But once they’re forced to improvise a few times under pressure, they become more comfortable playing the part of an infatuated couple.

The agent and biker ultimately get so good at being together that even they forget that they’re only supposed to be pretending as they attempt to set up the deal to take down a homicidal drug dealer.

Avery can’t seem to recall why she despised Remy in the first place since he’s proven to be a kind, caring man who would literally do anything to protect his family.

And while Remy didn’t want to spend a second with Avery at the beginning of the undercover operation, he suddenly doesn’t know how he’s ever going to let her go.

REVIEW: REMY by Lane Hart and DB West is the first instalment in the contemporary, adult SAVAGE KINGS MC: VIRGINIA erotic, MC romance series -a spin off from the authors’ SAVAGE KINGS SOUTH CAROLINA MC series. This is twenty-nine year old, Club president Remington ‘Remy’ Fulton, and thirty-one year old, DEA Agent Avery Carmichael’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Remy and Avery) REMY follows the building but acrimonious relationship between twenty-nine year old, Club president Remington ‘Remy’ Fulton, and thirty-one year old, DEA Agent Avery Carmichael. Two confidential informants were murdered by drug lord Thomas ‘Tank’ Sullivan, and DEA Agent Avery Carmichael has been tasked with taking him down. Working undercover with the president of the Savage Kings MC meant pretending to be the girlfriend of a man who wants nothing to do with our story line heroine but Remy Fulton’s brother is looking at hard time, and the DEA has called in a favor from the Savage Kings MC. Remaining undercover is difficult at best when Remy and Avery have been told to keep the assignment a secret when their relationship comes under the scrutiny of Remington’s brothers. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Avery and Remy, and the potential fall-out as Avery’s time with Remy comes to a close.

Avery Carmichael has never worked undercover, and her first assignment involves the Savage Kings MC. Remy is a sexy, built MC President who wants nothing to do with our story line heroine but Remy will see green when our heroine catches the eye of everyone else. To get involved with Remy could mean the end of her DEA career, a career Avery is willing to risk if it means losing her heart to our story line hero.

The relationship between Remy and Avery begins as an assignment in which neither one is happy about their future arrangement. To make their relationship believable, Avery must move in with our story line hero,a move that places one another in each other’s radar. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Remy’s brothers: Colt, RJ and Barrett aka Bear, as well as their father; Avery’s father Michael, several members of the DEA, Savage Kings MC both Virginia and South Carolina, and drug lord Tank Sullivan.

REMY is a story of family and relationships, secrets and acceptance, temptation and struggle, friendships and love. The fast paced premise is entertaining and dramatic; the romance is seductive; the characters are charismatic and dynamic.

Desperation in Death by J.D. Robb – a Review

Desperation in Death by J.D. Robb – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
New York, 2061: The place called the Pleasure Academy is a living nightmare where abducted girls are trapped, trained for a life of abject service while their souls are slowly but surely destroyed. Dorian, a thirteen-year-old runaway who’d been imprisoned there, might never have made it out if not for her fellow inmate Mina, who’d hatched the escape plan. Mina was the more daring of the two—but they’d been equally desperate.

Unfortunately, they didn’t get away fast enough. Now Dorian is injured, terrified, and wandering the streets of New York, and Mina lies dead near the waterfront while Lt. Eve Dallas looks over the scene.

Mina’s expensive, elegant clothes and beauty products convince Dallas that she was being groomed, literally and figuratively, for sex trafficking—and that whoever is investing in this high-overhead operation expects windfall profits. Her billionaire husband, Roarke, may be able to help, considering his ties to the city’s ultra-rich. But Roarke is also worried about the effect this case is having on Dallas, as it brings a rage to the surface she can barely control. No matter what, she must keep her head clear–because above all, she is desperate for justice and to take down those who prey on and torment the innocent.

Review:

Desperation In Death by J.D. Robb is the 55th book in her magnificent In Death/Eve Dallas series. I have noted this many times that I love this series, as I have read every single book, as well as all the novellas of this series. I also love Eve and Roarke, who I still consider the best literary couple. Desperation in Death is another very good addition to this series.  I will never have enough of this series, and marvel how Robb continues to give us fascinating stories at 55 books later; though this book is one of the darker books in this series, with lots of twists and turns.

Eve is called to a scene where a dead teenager is found; as she notices the clothes/undergarments on the dead girl, she begins to suspect that the girl was a victim of a sex trafficking organization. Eve and Peabody begin a search of another missing teen, who was injured and ran away; they are determined to find the missing girl, before the villains find her.  As the case continues to get darker, it causes Eve to remember her own past, as she is mentally and emotionally distraught; with Roarke and Peabody trying to keep her calm.  We learn more about the missing girl, Dorian, and her now dead friend, Mina; as they escaped the “Pleasure Academy”, only to have Mina push Dorian to safety, bringing her own death.

It was sad and dark, as we see how the young girls are being kidnapped at a young age, and forcefully trained to be a sex slave. Eve pulls everyone together, including other departments to help find the so-called academy and Dorian.  Roarke, who we know, always helps Eve on her cases, and this is no different; but he is concerned how this case is affecting Eve.

I always love to see all the many recurring characters, such as Peabody, Nadine, McNab, Mira, Mavis, Feeney, Reo, Summerset, Galahad, and Eve’s entire police team. Closer to the end, Dorian will eventually open up to Eve, and help find the villains and the Academy; giving her own justice, as well as all the girls rescued.

What follows is an intense, exciting, non-stop action filled race to find the people running the awful sex trafficking Academy. The story is grim and tragic, with the last third of the book being very tense and exciting, with edge of your seat suspense.

With 55 books and many novellas, Eve has changed drastically from being alone to having so many friends and teammates she cares about.  J.D. Robb once again gives us another masterpiece to this wonderful series, which I hope keeps on rolling for many years to come. Desperation in Death is another masterpiece to this amazing series, which is always so very well written by J.D. Robb.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 1, 2022

She walks through the strangely familiar house, hardwood floors creaking under her feet. They are in bed: peaceful, except for the pool of blood spreading across the white sheets.

A couple expecting their first child is brutally murdered in their home. The prime suspect? The scorned ex-wife who supposedly has no knowledge of why she’s there or what happened.

When Detective Charlotte Pierce arrives at the scene, it’s up to her to unravel the mystery of newlyweds’ murder. It looks like an open and shut case, but certain things are not adding up.

Despite pressures from her FBI director father, Charlotte came to Mesquite County to escape the burdens of a big city police department. She has been through a lot and a quiet suburban community where nothing really happens is exactly what she is looking for.

Little does she know that this quiet community is filled with secrets of its own, including those within the police department. She could easily go with the flow, but she refuses to ignore even the smallest inconsistencies.

Was it the ex-wife or is the murderer still out there? Can Charlotte get to the truth before he kills again?.

•••••••••

REVIEW: WHAT SHE DID aka LAST BREATH is the first instalment in Kate Gable’s contemporary, adult CHARLOTTE FINN PIERCE mystery, suspense, thriller series focusing on Detective Charlotte Pierce.

Told from three first person perspectives (Charlotte, Will, Erin) WHAT SHE DID / LAST BREATH follows in the aftermath of the murder of attorney Derek Bryson and his pregnant wife Susannah. The only suspect is Derek’s ex-wife and former attorney Erin Lowry Bryson, a woman who cannot recall anything in the hours prior to the murders, having been found in the house, covered in blood. As the police struggled to make a case against Derek’s ex-wife, Erin discovers that everything about her own life with Derek has been predicated upon a number of lies, and there is a distinct possibility that she is the pawn in a much bigger game than she could have ever imagined. What ensues is the search for the truth, as Erin begins to interfere in the investigation, and her TSTL (too stupid to live ) actions threaten any possibIlity of a not guilty outcome.

As the story line progresses, we are introduced to Derek’s law partner Christopher Flynn, attorney Sandra Pullman, private investigator Shawn Nieves, Detective Charlotte Pierce and Detective William Torch. The story line focused more so on, and was told mostly from Erin Lowry Bryson’s point of view, and therefore, some of the information and evidence comes from a suspect, and not the police investigation. I think the author should tell more of the story from Charlotte’s point of view, as this is a series focusing, first and foremost, on Detective Charlotte Pierce, and the cases to which she will be assigned. I was a little confused thinking the series was about Erin Lowry.

Kate Gable pulls the reader into a story of suspense and mystery, murder and vengeance, betrayal and discovery. The premise is intriguing; the characters are energetic, real and charismatic.

REVIEW: NAMELESS GIRL aka WHEN SHE LEFT is the second instalment in Kate Gable’s contemporary, adult DETECTIVE CHARLOTTE PIERCE LAST BREATH mystery suspense series focusing on Mesquite County Detective Charlotte Pierce.

NOTE: The series name has changed a couple of times; book two NAMELESS GIRL was original titled WHEN SHE LEFT, and continues to be so at several outlets- there may be some confusion for readers

Told from three first person perspectives (Charlotte, Franny, Madison) following several intersecting and separate paths NAMELESS GIRL focuses on the search for a missing nineteen year old young woman. Sixteen year old, Franny Dillard hasn’t seen her nineteen year old sister Madison in close to three weeks, and her parents appear unconcerned about their daughter’s whereabouts. In an effort to locate her sister, Franny speaks to Detective Charlotte Pierce, in the hopes the police will search for the truth but hours later, Franny arrives home to discover her parents have been murdered, and the mystery begins to spiral out of control.

Meanwhile, Charlotte has been invited to her grade eight reunion, a reunion that forces Charlotte and her friends to revisit the past when one of their own vanished without a trace.

Detective Charlotte Pierce and her partner Detective Will Torch had no idea a missing persons case would devolve so quickly but as the detectives begin a search for the truth, not all is well in Mesquite County, California as money laundering, fraud, murder for hire, extortion, arson and the Mob all coalesce into a mystery of who, what and why. As Charlotte and Will commiserate over dinner and drinks, Charlotte will be introduced to former police officer turned firefighter Dylan Ferreira.

NAMELESS GIRL is an intriguing story of suspense and mystery, murder and manipulation, secrets and lies. The premise is engaging, suspenseful and twisted; the characters are animated and passionate. If you are a fan of the author’s Detective Caitlyn Carr series, you will recognize many similarities and themes

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 11, 2022

When a young woman’s lifeless body is found with strangulation marks not far from her tent, Detective Charlotte Pierce heads to the small mountain town of Quail Lake to investigate.

Mesquite County Sheriff’s department is short staffed and the only other person working the case is an inexperienced deputy who has never investigated a murder.

Soon, Charlotte discovers that the twenty-year-old murder victim was living in a camper van with her boyfriend and documenting their life online as van life influencers.

But there’s more to it. Charlotte had actually met the couple while on a hike by a desert waterfall and intervened when their argument got intense.

Now, Charlotte is up against the clock to find the boyfriend, the person she suspects was the last one to see the woman alive.

The investigation leads her from the sleepy town of Quail Lake to the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles and the streets that she is all too familiar with having worked previously for the LAPD. It also brings her in contact with an old acquaintance, Detective Kaitlyn Carr who helps her with the mystery.

As Charlotte and Kaitlyn start to pieces of the puzzle together, they find out that appearances are deceiving. Quail Lake is a town where secrets don’t want to stay buried and the truth will put both of their lives in danger.

••••••••

REVIEW: LAKE OF LIES by Kate Gable is a cross over novella from the author’s DETECTIVE CHARLOTTE PIERCE and DETECTIVE KAITLYN CARR series.

Told from first person perspective (Charlotte Pierce) with a single chapter by Kaitlyn Carr LAKE OF LIES follows in the wake of a young woman, found dead at her campsite, a young woman whom Detective Charlotte Pierce had witnessed being abused by her boyfriend at another time. Days earlier Charlotte came across a young couple, Madison and Michael, who were filming and blogging their journey across the country when the young man became aggressive and abusive towards Madison. Offering to press charges, Charlotte is surprised when the young woman declines, contiuing on their journey together. Days later, a hiker stumbles across a body, the murder victim is none other than young woman Madison, the woman Charlotte met days before. With the boyfriend as the prime suspect, Charlotte begins an investigation but a staff shortage at the precinct forces Charlotte to call in help from Detective Kaitlyn Carr, who is tasked with interviewing the boyfriend’s parents. Suspecting all was not right with the parents, Kaitlyn quickly becomes suspicious when the young couple’s van is found parked outside, and the parents claim no idea as to the how and why. Brought in for questioning, Michael proclaims his innocence directing the detectives towards someone else. What ensues is the search for the truth, and the fall out when obsession leads to murder, prefaced by love.

LAKE OF LIES bares some but limited resemblance to a recent murder case that gained national attention when another couple filmed their trip across America, a trip that ended in the murder of the young woman. LAKE OF LIES is a novella length, fast paced, quick read that pulls together two tough but experienced Detectives as they search for a killer, to bring justice for a young woman who died long before her time. The premise is intriguing with a couple of twists and turns.

•••••••••

REVIEW: MISSING LIVES aka HOW SHE DISAPPEARED is the third instalment in Kate Gable’s contemporary, adult DETECTIVE CHARLOTTE PIERCE MYSTERY (aka Detective Charlotte Pierce) mystery/suspense series focusing on Mesquite County, California Detective Charlotte Pierce. MISSING LIVES can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

NOTE: Once again, the author has changed book titles, and the series name such that the confusion is making it difficult to keep track of the books and series order. MISSING LIVES/ HOW SHE DISAPPEARED is part 3 of the Charlotte Pierce Mystery, yet the author has the same series aka Detective Charlotte Pierce with the first two books (different) titles with the same characters and premise, and that book 3 is a different premise all together. Confused..yep, so am I.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Charlotte and Kelsey) MISSING LIVES follows several paths including the truth behind Charlotte’s missing childhood friend Kelsey, the disappearance and murder of two young boys, Charlotte’s boyfriend’s dangerous and deadly work assignment, and a ghost from the past that refuses to let go.

Detective Charlotte Pierce and her partner Detective Will Torch are assigned to investigate the disappearance of a young boy who would later be found dead. As the duo begin their investigation into the first of three missing boys, Charlotte will be forced to work alongside the man who almost destroyed her life, an FBI Agent who continues to harass our story line heroine. When Charlotte reveals the truth to her partner, about what happened years before, she must consider her options going forward, options that may threaten our heroine’s career.

Meanwhile, Detective Will Torch’s personal and professional life are about to collide; and Charlotte’s boyfriend is injured on the job.

MISSING LIVES is a fast paced, intriguing, suspense filled story of secrets and lies, power and betrayal, family and friendships, obsession and murder. The premise is captivating, dramatic and intense; the characters are charismatic and determined. Detective Kaitlyn Carr from the author’s Kaitlyn Carr series crosses over with a cameo appearance in preparation for an upcoming cross-over novella.

Here’s hoping the series, the books, the stories and the covers eventually merge and release in a non-confusing manner.

REVIEW GIRL IN THE LAKE is the fourth instalment in Kate Gable’s contemporary, adult DETECTIVE CHARLOTTE PIERCE MYSTERY THRILLER series focusing on former LAPD Detective Charlotte Pierce. GIRL IN THE LAKE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as their is an ongoing premise throughout.

Told from first person (Charlotte) and third person (Sarah) GIRL IN THE LAKE follows Detective Charlotte Pierce as she vacations with her boyfriend in Quail Lake, California. ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 6, 2022

Three Powerfully Alluring Vampire Men
And One Queen to Rule Them All

All Mina ever wanted was to escape her father’s control. Half human, half vampire, she lived eternally torn between two worlds, never fully experiencing the pleasures of either—until her father chose her as the pawn in his latest political move, gifting her to the darkly powerful and dangerously seductive Malachi Zion.

Malachi is not a vampire to be trifled with. He rules with an iron fist and has a reputation for the darkest of sins. But the longer Mina spends with him, the more she realizes he’s not the monster she first thought—and as fear bleeds into lust, then trust, then something more, Malachi opens Mina up to a world she never knew could be hers for the taking: including the love of Malachi’s two closest friends and companions.

Now surrounded by all three men, the center of their shockingly seductive world, Mina may finally have the power to face down her father and take back the life—and crown—that by all rights should be hers.

•••••

REVIEW: COURT OF THE VAMPIRE QUEEN by Katee Robert is a contemporary, adult, reverse harem, LGBTQ, paranormal, erotic romance story line focusing on twenty-five year old dhampir Mina Lancaster, and vampires Malachi Zion, Wolf and Rylan.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: All vampires can be traced back to one of the original seven vampires whether turned or bloodline. The bloodline vampires are slowly dying out, and in this, Mina Lancaster is a vessel for her family’s lineage.

Told from first person perspective (Mina) COURT OF THE VAMPIRE follows the building relationship between dhampir Mina Lancaster, and vampires Malachi, Wolf and Rylan. Mina Lancaster is believed to be half human/ half vampire with no discernable powers. Mina’s father, Cornelius Lancaster is a powerful vampire who is the ultimate evil Master, and has entrapped Malachi Zion behind a blood ward, a ward that will not allow Malachi his freedom to feed. Hoping for a vampire heir, Cornelius forces his daughter onto the starving Malachi never thinking that the two could eventually fall in love but Malachi’s past is about to come into the present when his former vampire lovers Wolf and Rylan, also make a claim for our story line heroine. Something about Mina’s blood is calling to the men with whom she will bond, something that proves our heroine is much more than the half human/ half vampire she has been led to believe. To free herself and Malachi from her father’s control, Mina must take down Cornelius Lancaster by first bonding with her vampires, a bond that triggers the powers hidden deep without our story line heroine. What ensues is the building and highly sexual relationship between dhampir Mina and her vampires, and the potential fall-out as Malachi, Wolf and Rylan are caught in a trap from which they may never get free.

We are introduced to Wolf’s sister Lizzie; monster hunter Grace, demon Azazel; and Mina’s father Cornelius Lancaster.

COURT OF THE VAMPIRE QUEEN is an erotic tale of lust and need, blood and $ex, more lust, more need, more blood and more $ex. Traversing a fine line between romance, erotic and erotica, the story line and world building is hyper focused on the sexual relationship between Mina and her powerful vampires. The actual story is constrained and overwhelmed by the numerous $ex scenes–I was hoping for more world building, back story, and story line conflict. Nothing is off limits; blood play and feeding is a part of the act; often times, the foursome cross the line of barely controlled need and feeding frenzy, a need that often over powers their sense of self preservation. The $ex scenes are intense, erotic, passionate and aggressive but they are vampires, pleasure and $ex are a part of their feeding.

The conflict resolution is hurried, although the build up is fast and furious. The epilogue fast forwards COURT OF THE VAMPIRE QUEEN approximately four years. There is a slight cliff hanger-I am not sure if the author has plans for some of the secondary characters but their issues and story lines need to be told.

REVIEW: BRICK’S HOUSE is the first instalment in Darlene Tallman’s contemporary, adult RBMC: ROANOKE, VA dark, erotic, MC , slightly paranormal romance series-a part of the multi-authored RBMC series. This is RBMC Roanoke president Brick, and Raeleigh Matthews’ story line. BRICK’S HOUSE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the multi-authored series is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Brick and Raeleigh) BRICK’S HOUSE follows in the wake of the search and rescue of an abused and battered young woman. Just hours before the Roanoke Raiders were to be patched in as full-fledged members of the Royal B*stards MC, RBMC member Voodoo got a call from his grandmother, Madam Laveaux, a woman with powers no one has questioned. A young woman, believed to be Brick’s future ol’ lady lay injured and dying, and the RBMC must track down our heroine before it’s too late. Enter Raeleigh Matthews, and the woman with whom Brick will fall in love. Raeleigh has been used and abused most of her life, and she has been left in the snow, with the hopes she would die. Her rescue comes with the reality of a somewhat normal life, a life spent with the members of the RBMC, a crew of men who are determined to exact revenge for horrendous life our heroine has suffered. What ensues is the slow building relationship between Brick and Raeleigh, as Raeleigh must navigate a world she knows nothing about.

Raeleigh Matthews knows very little about her life including the smallest nuances like birthdate and age. Never having celebrated a holiday or spent time with anyone else, Raeleigh must recover her independence under the watchful eye of the RBMC. There are currently no ol’ ladies for the members of the RBMC Roanoke but Brick is about to come face to face with his future, a future he always wanted but never expected to see.

The relationship between Brick and Raeleigh begins as a rescue and recovery. Raeleigh is in no condition to start a relationship, and in this, Brick is about to set her up with life experiences including a job and a place of her own. Wanting the woman who calls to his heart, Brick quickly realizes that it is time to pull Raeleigh into his life. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate. without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters from two converging RBMC. We are introduced to Brick’s ‘brothers’: Rooster, Banshee, Hawg, Scythe, Kracken, and Road Captain Arrow. The requisite evil has many faces.

BRICK’S HOUSE is a dark, gritty and emotional story line of abuse and neglect, murder and punishment, acceptance, understanding and love. The premise is heart breaking but hopeful; the romance is impassioned; the characters are charismatic, broken but struggling to heal. BRICK’S HOUSE ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 1, 2022

So I forgot about the night I spent with Sylvie Davis… big deal.
Listing all of my one-night stands would be impossible.
It’s par for the course for any man who decided early in life they’d rather enjoy a buffet instead of a single entrée.
But now my boss has ordered me to accompany her back to her hometown.
His words: She needs a little help.
Translation: I think you could fall for this girl.
Leave it to the MC president, and every other chump in this club, to think I need help where women are concerned.
They think love is the final answer in this game of life. If you don’t have it you’re losing.
I know they’re wrong, but find myself grateful that I agreed to go.
It doesn’t take long for an ex to come sniffing around.
I say he’s bad news.
She says I’m jealous.
With the vibes I’m getting from this guy, I find myself hoping she’s right.
The alternative is bad for everyone concerned.

REVIEW: SPADE is the twenty-third instalment in Marie James’ contemporary, adult CERBERUS MC erotic, MC romance series focusing on a group of former members of the US Armed Forces. This is former Marine Dylan ‘Spade’ Pratt, and Sylvie Davis’ story line. SPADE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Spade and Sylvie) SPADE follows the second chance, frenemies to lovers relationship between former Marine Dylan ‘Spade’ Pratt, and Sylvie Davis. Months earlier Spade and Sylvie had a one night stand, a night Spade cannot remember or why. Believing Spade had ghosted her, and she meant nothing but a fling, Sylvie struggled with what she believed was rejection by the man that stirred something within her heart but when Sylvie discovers her grandfather’s medical bills hadn’t been paid, she must return to her hometown, a return accompanied by our story line hero. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Spade and Sylvie, and the potential fall-out as Sylvie’s return home may have unearthed a secret that is about to target our story line heroine.

Sylvie’s grandfather aka Big Daddy is in a nursing home but Sylvie has discovered his bills have not been paid. Returning to her home town finds our heroine coming face to face with her past, a past that isn’t quite what they present themselves to be. Spade suspects something isn’t quite right in Sylvie’s home town but his suspicions are ignored, and Sylvie is about to pay the price

The relationship between Sylvie and Spade began as a one night stand that our hero cannot remember. In the weeks that followed Sylvie’s immature attitude and bitterness threatens any possible future with our story line hero; her adolescent behavior is off-putting and constantly places Spade on the defensive. Spade doesn’t do relationships but something about Sylvie pulls at his heart but Sylvie continues to radiate malevolence and animosity whenever they are together. ˇhe $ex scenes are intimate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and familiar secondary and supporting characters including most of the Cerberus MC. We are introduced to Sylvie’s grandfather Big Daddy Davis, as well as her cousin Naomi, and childhood friend Will Varon.

SPADE is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; betrayal and trust; heart break and misunderstanding; acceptance and love. The premise is engaging and captivating; the romance struggles in the face of our heroine’s inability to let go; the characters are determined but constantly at battle with one another. Saying that, Sylvie Davis is a difficult heroine to like-her less than stellar attitude, immaturity, and reluctance to forgive and forget, gets old pretty fast.

Let’s see…where to begin…

I’m inching up on the BIG 4-0. The gray hairs are doubling what seems like daily, and the wrinkles and laugh lines are more pronounced than ever.

I have an amazing husband (Married just over 15 years.)

We have two boys we’re doing our best to raise as respectful gentleman.

I have a master’s degree in criminal justice which I used to work as a juvenile probation office until deciding to write full-time in June of 2019. So that means there’s usually always some criminal/law element to my novels.

If I’m not writing; I’m reading.

My favorite genres recently are bully/reverse harem and enemies to lovers. Maybe I’m reliving my traumatic teen years through the girls who actually end up with the boys. (Not that I would change my history since it’s gotten me exactly where I need to be!)

I love coffee. I miss carbs. Music is LIFE. I try not to be too serious.

REVIEW: PRESTON is the fourth instalment in Rae B Lake’s contemporary, adult BOYS OF DJINN MC dark, erotic, MC, FBI romance series-a spin off from the author’s Wings of Diablo MC series. This is undercover FBI agent Preston Djinn, and Yelena’s story line. PRESTON can be read as a stand-alone without any difficulty. But I recommend reading the series in order, for back story and cohesion.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise including human/child trafficking, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Preston and Yelena) PRESTON focuses on the take down of a man wanted by the FBI. Approximately four years earlier, FBI Agent Preston Djinn agreed to go undercover in an operation that could change the man he once was. With one of his brothers facing a death sentence, Preston made a deal, a deal that would see our hero become someone he didn’t know. Working for Dean, a man involved with gun, drugs, human trafficking and nuclear arms, Preston became one of the ‘bad guy’s but struggled when he discovered his brothers were now part of Dean’s imprisoned spies. With the arrival of a young woman Yelena, a young woman once part of the cult known as the Children of Gaia, Preston would battle between head and heart knowing that to save the woman with whom he is quickly falling in love, he may have to sacrifice one of his own. With the FBI refusing to help, Preston quickly discovers there is more to the story than he could have imagined. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Preston and Yelena, and the potential fall-out when a web of destruction and betrayal is revealed at the top.

Yelena is a reluctant member of the Children of Gaia, and is expected to produce the next prophesized heir but Yelena served four years in a Canadian prison, and is hoping to stay one step ahead of the man in charge. Finding herself, once again, facing a lifetime with the Children of Gaia, Yelena discovers Preston is not the man he appears to be.

The relationship between Preston and Yelena is quick to develop; an affair of insta-lust to love in which Preston claims Yelena as his own but not all is well within the FBI, and neither one may be able to make it out on their own. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Preston’s blood brothers Wyatt, Cody, Spark and Devin Djinn. We are introduced to several traffickers including Dean and Yemen; head of the Children of Gaia Emerson, as well as several members of the Wings of Diablo MC, and several FBI agents. The requisite evil has many faces.

PRESTON is a fast paced, quick read that focuses on betrayal and vengeance, family and deception, power and control, acceptance and love. The premise is dark, raw and haunting; the characters are animated, charismatic, and edgy; the romance is energetic.

Her hand traces up my forearm to my shoulder before she slides her feet out of my grasp. Pulling them under herself, she raises up to her knees and presses a soft kiss to my lips.
I’m shocked, frozen for a moment, and she does it again.
Finally, I reciprocate. I grab the back of her neck and deepen the kiss, my body hungry for hers in a way that lets me know that I’m starved for her particular connection. I want her, and she’s giving herself to me.
But for what in return?
“No.” I pull away, out of breath and get off the bed. “You don’t have to do that. I’m not… “I close my eyes tightly, trying to wait for some of the blood that’s already flowing down to my c*ck to go back to my brain, so I can think straight. “I’m not doing this, so I can f**k you, Yelena. I don’t want anything from you.”
“I know it. For the first time in close to a decade, I know that what happens is my decision. You are probably going to be in for some major life changes after this goes down, and I haven’t been with someone who hasn’t forced themselves on me since I was twenty. This may be the last time you get to experience normal, and could be the first time I get to experience it again. Momentous for both of us, really.” She smiles at me and gets off the bed, walking to where I am. She wraps her trembling arms around my neck and looks me deep in my eyes.
“I want us to take each other away from all of this, Preston. Even if it is just for a little while.” Her voice disables me in a way that I have never felt.
I know I shouldn’t. It’ll just be harder for me later. To have a taste of a life I could have had but ultimately had to give up. A life Wyatt, Spark and Cody have to look forward to when they go home.
Normalcy.
Desire.
Passion.
“Please… just…” She stutters, probably thinking I don’t want to continue, but I don’t think I have a choice in the matter any longer.
She’s right, this may be the last chance for me to experience this.
She’s granting my last wish.
