Description:
A killer is looking to silence them, once and for all.

FBI agent Jordan Wallace is close to cracking the human trafficking case she’s been working, when she does the one thing she should never do: let her guard down. The botched undercover mission is semisalvaged by the last-minute appearance of criminal psychologist Patrick Law, but Jordan can’t imagine making a worse first impression. Especially when she’s partnered with Patrick moving forward.

Patrick’s innate ability to get inside a criminal’s head is an asset for the Krewe of Hunters. But Jordan wishes she could protect her own thoughts from her new partner. Patrick assures her that both she and her thoughts are safe with him, but Jordan’s less sure about her heart. Letting someone have her back has never been her strong suit, but with a dangerous killer still at large, trusting in Patrick might be the only thing keeping them alive.

Review:

Voice of Fear by Heather Graham is the 38th book in her Krewe of Hunters series.  I am a big fan of Heather Graham, as her romance suspense books are always exciting and action packed.  Voice of Fear is the third book in this trilogy arc.  The last two books were centered on Colleen, who is an FBI agent (with the Krewe Hunters), and her sister Megan.  In Voice of Fear, Jordan Wallace, our heroine, an FBI agent is the lead, with the third Law family member (triplets), Patrick Law, as the hero in this book.

The story starts with Jordan working undercover, finding herself captured by human traffickers, trying to escape. Just when she thinks they will kill her, she is rescued by the FBI and Patrick Law. The FBI and Krewe team manage to save other women being sold to other countries. Patrick went out of his way to tell Jordan that she was wrong not to have a backup, nearly getting herself killed. With the man behind the human trafficking still missing, Patrick and Jordan are teamed up as partners.  Even though they got off on the wrong foot, in a short time they become great partners, and eventually a romance will bring them even closer.

It was great to see other members of the Krewe team, especially those who have unique abilities. The Law triplets each possess unusual powers, such as Colleen being able to hear voices in her head, and Patrick, who is criminal psychologist, and can read minds; not to mention that many Krewe members can see ghosts.   Both Patrick and Jordan can see ghosts, and one ghost, Alfie will play a major part in this story, trying to save an old friend, before he moves on.

A powerful and evil vicious dangerous killer is still at large, and Jordan, Patrick, and the team do everything to find him before he kills again. What follows is a tense exciting thriller that will have Jordan, Patrick, and all the wonderful Krewe team, such as Coleen, Ragnar, Angela, Jackson, Mark, Megan, and other members of the Krewe team, working together to save the women. I loved Patrick’s dog, Bry-Bo, who was so helpful when danger was near. To say too much more would be spoilers, and you need to read this from start to finish, as there are some twists and surprises.

It was a wild tense last third of the book, as we raced to the climax, had me holding my breath to see who will survive.  Voice of Fear was an exciting, intense, suspenseful, dark story of murder, with a sweet slow burn romance, great couple and lots of action throughout. Once again, Heather Graham gives us a wild, mindboggling thriller, that kept our attention from start to finish.  I did like that both Patrick and Jordan were a great couple.  If you like intense supernatural thrillers, which is written so very well by Heather Graham, then I suggest you read Voice of Fear.

••••••

REVIEW: BELLE MACABRE is instalment 4.5 in Crimson Syn’s contemporary, adult RBMC / CIRQUE DIABOLIQUE dark, erotic, supernatural MC series- part of the multi-authored ROYAL B*STARDS MC series. This is Belle and Ethan ‘Macabre’ Hudson’s story line. BELLE MACABRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

NOTE: The events of BELLE MACABRE take place approximately ten to thirteen years prior to Coerced Into Submission

Told from four first person perspectives (Macabre, Belle, Serge, Lazarus) BELLE MACABRE focuses on Belle and Macabre’s fight for freedom. Thirteen years earlier, a then sixteen year old Belle witnessed the brutal murder of her mother at the hands of her evil step-father. With no one to help, Belle signed a ‘contract’ with the erotic, supernaturally charged Cirque Diabolique, a contract that signed away our heroine’s life and her soul. Three years would pass before another ‘run away’ would leave his presence on the Cirque Diabolique, a presence that that will force the demons to take control. Enter Ethan ‘Macabre’ Hudson, the man with whom Belle would fall in love. Macabre has a target on his back-a man on the run; on the road to places unknown until he is ‘directed’ to a circus of debauchery, where he will find his heart, and save the soul of the woman he loves. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Belle and Macabre, and the fall-out as Belle’s escape to freedom incites the demons controlling the crowds.

The relationship between Belle and Macabre is one of immediate attraction but Belle has forfeited her life and her soul to an unknown entity, a demon who thrives on the lecherous sins of others. Macabre must remain in hiding, one step ahead of the MC that betrayed his family, but to remain with the Cirque means to sell his soul to the demon in charge. Desperate to free the woman with whom he has fallen in love, Macabre calls in a favor, a favor that is going to cost them dearly. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense.

We are introduced to the ‘ringmaster’ Serge Bastien, and dark angel Lazarus, as well as ‘waitress’ Ginger, and several MC members that come in and out of the story line premise.

BELLE MACABRE is a story of eroticism, betrayal , power and control. The premise is haunting and unconventional in the world of the MC; the characters are broken and desperate-controlled by an unknown power; the romance is edgy and dark.

My name is Crimson Syn, not really, but what fun is it to use my real name. Instead I’ll use my inner goddess’ name, it’s much more fun that way. I grew up in New York City where I had a wonderful education, loving parents and awesome friends. What more could a girl ask for?

I started writing at the age of sixteen. The first romance I read was Stephanie Laurens’ Devil’s Bride. Since then I have been influenced by dozens of flourishing romance authors and even more dashing and daring rogues. I must say it, but Fifty Shades was not my first erotic romance, nor did it influence me to start writing them. If you’ve never read Mary Balogh, Elizabeth Hoyt, Lisa Kleypas, Bertrice Small or A.N. Roquelaure’s Sleeping Beauty trilogy, then you’re missing out. Those were my sweet introductions to erotic romance, and boy were they hot.

So here I am, after reading so many wonderful stories, I have too many sinful tales of my own not to share. I like my alphas rough and possessive, and I have no shame in saying it or writing it. I had delightfully wicked teachers growing up, their books took me to new worlds and brought me new loves. So, I want to do the same for you. I want to indulge my readers in those steamy reads that will send them into the arms of dangerous alphas and deliciously sexy rogues, without leaving the confines of their nice warm bed. If I am able to entice your inner goddesses, then I have done my job and I am satisfied.

She’ll decide not to sell and he can ensure his family is taken care of. Except as he tries to make Kyra fall in love with the town, Aiden starts falling for her.

•••••

REVIEW: WISHING ON A CHRISTMAS COWBOY is the first instalment in Sara Richardson’s contemporary, adult STAR VALLEY romance series. This is former US Navy SEAL Aiden Steele, and pediatric nurse Kyra Fowler’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives WISHING ON A CHRISTMAS COWBOY follows in the aftermath of the death of Kyra Fowler’s estranged father. Kenneth Fowler had walked away from his wife and daughter years before leaving a heart broken Kyra to struggle in the after math. Fast forward to present day wherein, Kenneth Fowler has passed away, leaving the small town of Star Valley Springs in the hands of our story line heroine. Kyra has no plans to keep or live in Star Valley but the people have a plan of their own. Enter business owner/rancher/ former US Navy SEAL Aiden Steele, the man with whom Kyra will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Kyra and Aiden, and the fall-out as the people of Star Valley set a plan into motion to persuade Kyra Fowler to become one of their own.

Kyra Fowler has struggled in the years since her father walked away but Kyra never knew the truth about what happened and why. With her arrival in Star Valley secrets will reveal a different story than the one she was told, a story that leaves our heroine wondering where everything went wrong. Meeting Aiden Steele made Kyra reconsider her hopes for the future, a future that would have pulled Kyra around the world.

The relationship between Kyra and Aiden is one of immediate attraction but Kyra has no plans to stay in Star Valley, and Aiden is hoping to prevent the sale of the small town he has grown to love. A slow seduction of our story line heroine ends badly when Kyra discovers everything has been a ruse to convince her to stay. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

We are introduced to several townsfolk as well as family and friends of our story line couple: Aiden’s sister Tess, and her daughters Willow and Morgan; his best friends and former teammates Silas and Thatch, as well as Kyra’s best friend Lyric.

WISHING ON A CHRISTMAS COWBOY reads like a Hallmark™ Christmas movie with all the sugar and sweetness of romance and love. The premise is entertaining, enjoyable and heartwarming; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic, determined and real.

HARD FOR YOU (Poison Wolves MC 1) by Sam Crescent-a review

HARD FOR YOU (Poison Wolves MC 1) by Sam Crescent

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk / B&N / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 11, 2022

No one will ever face the Poison Wolves MC and live…

Amelia isn’t liked by her pack. As a vegan, animal lover, and completely against violence, she doesn’t fit in with her fellow wolves. They’ve been trying to get her removed from the pack, but the Poison Wolves MC won’t allow it.

Wolfe has wanted Amelia for some time. There’s just something about the sexy, curvy wolf that he can’t get out of his head. When hunters come close, it’s their job to protect. And after Amelia finds someone lurking near her home, the MC puts a protection detail on her.

It’s Wolfe’s opportunity to finally have her to himself. But she’s a virgin. He’s never been with a virgin, and now, he considers it his job to make it right, to show her every carnal desire.

As the days go by without sightings, Wolfe has to wonder if she lied about seeing something in the woods. Is her life in danger? Or did she just want the attention?

Amelia has never sought out the pack’s attention, and she didn’t lie about the threat. Danger awaits, but will it be too late for Wolfe to save her?

•••••••

REVIEW: HARD FOR YOU is the first instalment in Sam Crescent’s contemporary, adult POISON WOLVES MC erotic, paranormal romance series. This is Poison Wolves MC VP Wolfe, and twenty-five year old waitress Amelia’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Wolfe and Amelia) HARD FOR YOU follows the building but tempestuous relationship between Poison Wolves MC VP Wolfe, and twenty-five year old Amelia. Amelia is a Pack outcast; a vegan wolf who refuses to hunt, a woman who has been broken by the family and the Pack meant to keep her from harm but someone or something is hunting the wolves, and Amelia lives on the edge of the forest involved. Trying to keep his distance, there is something about Amelia that attracts our hero, something he refuses to accept, admit or want anything to do. Breaking Amelia’s heart is but the first in a long list of sins for which Wolfe must atone but not believing her about the hunter in the forest threatens the life of the woman with whom he is falling in love. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Wolfe and Amelia, and the potential fall-out as Amelia is targeted for what she is, and who she knows.

Amelia has suffered for years at the hands of the Pack in which she belongs but Amelia is stronger than most, and our heroine refuses to give in without a fight. Having caught the eye of the Club VP gave our heroine pause for thought but betrayal at the hands of Wolfe meant Amelia struggled with life going forward.

The relationship between Amelia and Wolfe begins slowly as Wolfe cannot stay away from our story line heroine but Amelia’s reputation as an outcast, a vegan and a literal PITA, meant Wolfe struggled with attraction to a woman no other wolf or Pack would accept. Wolfe never wanted to break her heart but Wolfe broke the woman with whom he was falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word in my romance story lines.

We are introduced to several members of the Poison Wolves MC: Alpha, Draco, Boyan and Enzo, as well as bar owner Val, and local veterinarian Doctor Milton.

HARD FOR YOU is a story of betrayal, discrimination, judgement and forgiveness. The premise is heart breaking and emotional; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are energetic and determined.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 23, 2022

When Tess nosedives into Ethan, it’s a genuine accident. But when she trespasses? Maybe not so much.

When Tess Williams, a neonatal intensive care unit nurse, finds her fiancé in bed with another woman, she is done with dating. Even if it means she won’t have a family of her own, because trust and honesty are that important to her. Hellbent on avoiding any temptation of the male kind, she makes one devastating mistake: nosediving into the solid chest of a Delta Force operator.

Her second far-reaching mistake? Trespassing.

Ethan Mitchell, only son of a Texas billionaire, joined the Army to turn his life around. Adamant all women are only after money and can’t be trusted, and to keep his past secret, he is only interested in casual flings. Until a stubborn and infuriating five-foot-seven firecracker crashes into him, insisting he is mistaken, and he needs to apologize.

Sure. Like hell he is. And like hell he will.

Ethan may admit he is wrong (about one woman specifically), but will he risk exposing his secrets to keep her in his life? And Tess may give in to the attraction between them, but will she risk her heart for someone who, all too often, is sent on life-threatening missions?

•••••

REVIEW: IRREVOCABLE is the first instalment in AJ Reid’s contemporary, adult GUARDIANS erotic, romance series. This is billionaire/Delta Force operative Ethan Mitchell, and NICU nurse Tess Williams’ story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives IRREVOCABLE follows the turbulent but building romance and relationship between billionaire/Delta Force operative Ethan Mitchell, and NICU nurse Tess Williams. A night out with friends found Tess Williams stumbling into a sexy and brooding but cantankerous man, a man she would meet not once but two more times, several weeks later, where in she would discover our ill-tempered hero is one of her brother’s Delta Force Operatives, and a man who believes women are after him for only his money. A whirlwind affair between Tess and Ethan would end dramatically when Tess catches Ethan with someone else, the end of which Tess will suffer like she had never before. Life as she knows it is about to spiral out of control but Ethan refuses to listen or accept anything Tess has left to offer. What ensues is the building relationship between Ethan and Tess, and the fall-out when Tess walks away, pushing Ethan to close his heart, one final time.

The relationship between Tess and Ethan begins acrimoniously. Ethan believes Tess is a stalker; after his wealth and power; a woman who only sees Ethan as a final payday. Tess, on the other hand, has no idea as to Ethan’s identity, and crossing one another’s paths was nothing more than a coincidence that was about to become something more but Tess doesn’t do ‘army’, having watched from the sidelines as her parents’ marriage imploded. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Tess’s brother Joshua Williams; fellow Delta Force Operator Hayden Cooper, as well as Tess’s mother, and several co-workers at the hospital.

IRREVOCABLE is a story of mistaken beliefs, accusations and mistrust; jealousy and misunderstand; forgiveness and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing yet heart breaking; the characters are captivating, determined and animated; the romance is seductive but struggles in the face of issues of trust. Saying that, I made every effort to sympathize with our story line hero but his attitude and actions left something to be desired.

I would like to add, I wish there was more insight into the Delta Force operations-most of the missions and events are behind the scenes and off page.

TRC:  Hi AJ and welcome to The Reading Café.Congratulations on the release of IRREVOCABLE.

AJ:  Thank you so much, and for having me today!

TRC:  We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself

Follow: Twitter / Goodreads / Facebook / Amazon Author page / Website

AJ: I’m an Aussie from Perth, Western Australia and am married to a wonderful husband who still makes me laugh after 24 years. We have two boys, 19 and 17 years old, and 3 dogs. We’ve been living in the US for almost 8 years, and our oldest son is starting university beginning of next year. Our baby, who isn’t a baby anymore, just started his senior year. I honestly can’t believe how quickly they’ve grown up. It feels like yesterday when I was sitting next to the pool writing while they had swimming lessons.

TRC:  Who or what influenced your career in writing?

AJ:During a 10-week work trip to the US in 2006, I joined a library when I had finished all the books I had brought with me and came across a Cynster novel by Stephanie Laurens. I couldn’t put it down, or the next one, or the next. When I was done with every Cynster, Bastion Club, and Cobra novel, I decided to try my hand at writing. I’ve never regretted this decision for one moment.

I initially thought I’d write Regency novels, but while I was researching potential historical events as the backdrop for my first book, I stumbled across the Reivers of the English-Scottish borders. I immediately knew I wanted to not only learn more about their turbulent past and history, but also that I wanted to write their stories. I immersed myself into research for almost 2 years before I started writing the first book.

After many years of research, learning the craft of writing, completing the first manuscript, and moving to the US, I needed a break from the past and returned to my other grassroots love, Contemporary Romance. Once I finish the GUARDIANS series, I plan to return to the 16th century border for their Happily Ever Afters.

TRC:  What challenges or difficulties have you encountered writing and publishing your stories?

AJ:Finding time for writing between my professional career, family, and my other interests like reading and traveling. I have a lot of support from my family which helps tremendously.

TRC:  Would you please tell us something about the premise of IRREVOCABLE and the GUARDIANS series?

AJ:Tess is a neonatal intensive care nurse who has gone through several bad breakups. She really wants a family, but after catching her fiancé cheating on her three weeks before their wedding day, she’s done with relationships and decides to have a baby on her own when the time is right.

She’s also dealing with the loss of her Special Forces brother during a classified operation, a dad who has put his Army career ahead of his family, and suspects her only remaining brother has just made Delta Force selection which renews her fears she might lose him too.

Ethan is the only son of a Texas billionaire, and had joined the Army to turn his out-of-control life around. He grew up believing that women are only after his family’s money and can’t be trusted, and is only interested in short-term flings to keep his past buried.

When they meet by accident in the hottest “It” lounge in Dallas, Ethan insists Tess is hitting on him. She doesn’t take being wrongly accused lightly. The second time they encounter each other, all kinds of sparks fly between them, but they assume they can ignore all of that because they are never going to see each other again. Which they of course do!

Every book in the GUARDIANS series take place in Dallas with heroes who are stubborn Delta Force operators and heroines who are NICU nurses with wills of steel. There will also always be horses, dogs, and of course, annoying and interfering family members! The main characters of the subsequent books are introduced in the previous ones, but they can all be read as stand-alone.

I should also mention that I don’t sugarcoat the more realistic aspects of neonatal nursing experiences. Where I can’t draw on my own experience, I make every effort to ensure I handle these very personal and sensitive themes with the utmost care.

TRC:  How many books do you have planned for the series?

AJ:I have 3 books planned for the GUARDIANS series.

TRC:  How do you keep the plot(s) unpredictable without sacrificing content and believability?

AJ:By making sure the motivations and emotions match the characters’ responses to the unexpected and don’t catch readers by surprise. Foreshadowing is also something I like to use to make sure, even though my characters have no clue what’s coming, that my readers are suspecting a little something.

My critique groups and beta readers are also a huge help to keep me on the straight and narrow, and they let me know when something doesn’t work or is confusing or unbelievable.

TRC:  Do you believe the cover image plays a deciding factor for many readers in the process of selecting a book or new series to read?

AJ:Absolutely. Most of the time the cover is the first thing to draw a reader’s attention and should make them want to read the blurb, which should make them want to read the first few pages, and then the rest of the book. They’re all tied together, and each plays a critical role.

TRC:  When writing a storyline, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

AJ:I’ve only once let the characters do the directing, and never again. It was a disaster of epic proportions to sort that plotline out and make sense of things. So these days, I keep them on a short leash!

TRC:  The mark of a good writer is to pull the reader into the storyline so that they experience the emotions along with the characters. What do you believe a writer must do to make this happen? Where do you believe writer’s fail in this endeavor?

AJ:It’s key to really understand what the character is going through at that moment. I also consider how I would feel and respond to a similar situation, and then I dig deeper into what the character would feel and respond. There’s a fine balance to ensure the level of detail is appropriate for each scene, otherwise it can completely undo any emotional connection again.

TRC:  Do you listen to music while writing? If so, does the style of music influence the storyline direction? Characters?

AJ:I develop the storyline and characterization first before I compile a playlist, but I don’t always have one. When I do, I listen to the songs while I’m planning the next scene in my head or when I’m driving, and once in a while when I’m writing and am in the mood for music.

This is how I know the hero in the second book of the GUARDIANS series is going to be a handful. I mean, Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance is on that playlist…

TRC:  Many authors bounce ideas and information with other authors or friends and family. With whom do you bounce ideas?

AJ:I have two small, close-knit critique partner groups on Scribophile. We’ve been together for ages and know each other very well. It’s great being able to work with writer-friends who know my writing style, challenge me to take risks, and who I can ask all kinds of questions, anytime. I met some of them in person on a trip to Yellowstone National Park last year, which was fantastic. Yellowstone also lived up to its reputation. It was absolutely stunning!

I’m also part of bigger Scribophile groups where I can get answers for about just anything from doctors, nurses, lawyers, veterans, other Border Reiver gurus, and of course, writing, publishing, and marketing.

TRC:  What do you believe is the biggest misconception people have about authors?

AJ:That most of us write full-time, and writing is our main/only income source.

TRC:  What is something that few, if any people, know about you?

AJ:I absolutely love everything netball, and recently, started to get into American football. I still love Aussie footy rules, too!!

TRC:  On what are you currently working?

AJ:The second book of the GUARDIANS series which I hope to have out early next year.

It ain’t easy being the Ol’ Lady of the President of the Royal Bastards MC, but Sky never thought it’d kill her. Especially when she’s pregnant with his only child. Well, it could be his baby. Kingpin said it didn’t matter. Will a surprise left on their doorstep ruin everything? It will. Sky will have to go through hell and back to keep him. But will it work?

At the same time, there’s trouble in paradise. A secret keeps Eve and Hallow apart. Kingpin was right, Eve should’ve lied to her fiancé. Telling him the truth causes nothing but trouble, but Kingpin never should have gotten involved, not when he’s hurting himself.

••••••

REVIEW:  ROYAL SURPRISE is the fourth instalment in Morgan Jane Mitchell’s contemporary, adult RBMC: Nashville TN, erotic, MC romance series – a part of the multi-authored Royal B*stards MC. ROYAL SURPISE is the continuing story of forty-something, club president Beau ‘Kingpin’ Strict, and his ol’ Lady twenty-four year old, Sky Wynburn. ROYAL SURPRISE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events of book three ROYAL ROAD.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

NOTE: If you have not read the previous three books, there may be spoilers in my review.

Told from three first person perspectives (Kingpin, Sky , Eve) ROYAL SURPRISE follows in the aftermath of the wedding between Kingpin and Sky. Everything and everyone in the RBMC : Nashville MC is spiralling out of control. Infidelity is rampant; issues of trust threaten to destroy marriages and relationships; and past sins resurface to add fuel to an already out of control fire. Sky is pregnant but Kingpin continues to question the validity of the father’s identification, and with it, his ongoing issues of trust threaten his hours into days old marriage. As the president, Kingpin has his selection of women, and with it, rubs his new wife’s proverbial face in his power to do so but all is not well within the Nashville MC organization, when Sky’s life hangs in the balance for her husband’s past transgressions.

Meanwhile, Hallow and Eve’s almost wedding finds Eve on the run, placing the Nashville chapter up against another MC. Fear of the unknown, and secrets from the past, threaten to destroy Hallow and Eve’s hard fought love.

The relationship between Sky and Kingpin struggles in the face of secrets and lies, mistrust and misunderstandings, betrayal and vengeance, hopelessness and loss. Sky’s love for Kingpin is predicated upon their original relationship, a relationship that pitted mother against daughter for the affections of our story line male lead (Royal Road). Throughout his life, Beau ‘Kingpin’ Strict had suffered at the hands of his father, then during his incarceration in prison, but Beau continues to battle the demons that often control his present.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful yet questionable secondary and supporting characters many of whom were introduced in previous story lines including: Hallow and Eve, Paisley, Cece and Irish, Leo, Marin, and Penelope.

ROYAL SURPRISE may be a difficult story line for susceptible readers, and for anyone opposed to infidelity and cheating. The premise is dark, gritty, raw and haunting; the romance is heart breaking and edgy ; the characters are arrogant, self-centred, twisted and tragic.

REVIEW: Flickering Heart is book one in the Sara Browne series by Tricia T. Larochelle.

Eighteen year old Sara Browne has just started college at Commonwealth University in Charlottesville, Virginia.

This is a huge leap of faith for her as her body, mind and soul is scarred from losing both of her parents to a car accident at a young age. Sara has spent the last six years after becoming orphaned at the private school, away from everything and everyone she knows. As excited as she is for college she is also very scared as this is her first time navigating life as an adult. Luckily she has made a friend in Amy, her new suite-mate.

Stepping out of her comfort zone Amy and her head to their first tailgate, where things don’t go quite as planned. Having never partied before, Sara gets grabbed from behind and spills her beer on Rachael and her Versace outfit. As Rachael loses her mind on Sara, a six three god – Scott comes to her rescue – telling Rachael to calm down. Sara was pretty sure Scott and Rachael were a thing with the way she saw Rachael touching him earlier. But that wasn’t the case. Not at all.

Scott and Sara start hanging out, and despite all of everyone’s warnings of Scott being a “player”, Sara is interested. They spend more time together and the girls from Scott’s past are not happy about it. Sara starts to receive threatening letters, Vandalized messages on her car and someone poured water on her laptop. Sara begins to realize that someone does not like that she is getting closer to Scott. In a whirlwind of romance, Sara falls quickly for Scott and vice versa. But outside conflicts continue to plague their relationship. Someone really isn’t happy that Sara cares for Scott.

When Sara trusts the wrong person, her life gets turned upside down. She has been drugged and raped. When Scott finds out he wants to kill the person that has done this to his Sara. Scott beats the perpetrator within in an inch of his life. Sara must figure out a way to save Scott from ruining his life and going to jail. She knows exactly what she must do.

But can Sara convince the right people that Scott was only protecting her? And what will happen when to Scott. Will his life be ruined by a rash decision to hurt the person that harmed Sara?

This book was a whirlwind of a first relationship for Sara. With everyone telling her that Scott was a “player” and not to be trusted – she has a hard time trusting his word. When Scott keeps information from Sara it only makes matters worse. But will Sara be able to forgive Scott and move past what has happened to her?

Highly recommend – fast read, twists and turns of a first time relationship. The budding relationship of Sara and Scott was heartwarming. You want nothing but the best for Sara, who has had a rough life.

Looking forward to book two in this series.

(Would add a trigger warning for sexual assault.)

REVIEW: Revive is book two in the Sara Browne series by Tricia T. Larochelle.

This book centers on Sara’s recovery from her sexual assault. It also caters to Sara and Scott’s relationship and rebuilding trust. The onset begins with Sara having nightmares; Scott is there to help her through each one. Scott becomes the most patient and understanding man ever after experiencing the trauma with Sara.

Absolutely loved their relationship!

Sara spends a lot of time contemplating and thinking while trying to recover.   Sara becomes obsessed with a student that went missing last year – Carrie Stevens.  She picks up bits of information here and there and the more she finds out the more she needs to know.   Carrie disappeared without a trace. With soft encouragement from Amy, Sara seeks out counseling for not only the trauma of her sexual assault, but unresolved issues stemming from her parents passing.   (One session left me a crying, blubbering mess – because what a lesson!!)

Each session of counseling helps Sara take steps forward in the right direction. Sara also decides to join a self-defense class to be able to always protect herself.

A press conference from the parents of Carrie Stevens for the one year anniversary of being missing, lends more to Sara’s curiosity.  Sara questions Scott if he knew Carrie and he was quick to answer that he only knew her from the posters that were up around the school.  He also gets upset and tells Sara to let it go and stop pursuing information, which was weird to Sara.  Just when Sara starts to get some answers into what happened to Carrie, her best friend Amy goes missing.

Sara begins to track down the people that she had doubts about with Carrie’s disappearance.   Coming too close to the perpetrator,  Sara finds herself kidnapped also and in a shocking twist it is revealed who has kidnapped them.

Sara does everything in her power to save herself and Amy.  She has lost so much in her life, she wasn’t about to lose her best friend also.  Will she be able to save them both?   And what will Scott do when he finds out Sara is missing.

I read this entire book in one sitting.  It was an amazing second book in an equally wonderful series. Looking forward to the next installment.

Copyright 2022 Tricia T. LaRochelleI pried my laptop from my backpack, powered it up, and typed the words, “Carrie Stevens, Commonwealth University.” Within seconds, several article headlines flashed onto the screen, along with some random pictures below them. None of the women in the photos looked anything like Carrie, so I clicked on an Instagram link instead, where I found a treasure trove of images. The first thing I noticed was Carrie’s short, blue hair and thick makeup. This girl wasn’t the all-American-poster girl I had seen at the press conference at the Student Union Building earlier, although there were similarities: her eye color was the same and her facial structure. I scrolled through a picture of Carrie kissing a guy with greasy, long black hair—a wild party exploding in the background. I found another pic of Carrie holding a shot glass in the air, her eyes bloodshot. The last one I saw included Carrie smoking a tightly wrapped cigarette. I peered closer, maybe not a cigarette.
At that moment, Amy entered through the door. When I didn’t look up, she stopped short.
“What are you doing?” She leaned over my shoulder.
“That’s Carrie Stevens.” I glanced over at Amy. “She looks much different, doesn’t she?”
Amy furrowed her brow. “Who? Oh, you mean the girl who went missing? The one from the press conference?”
I nodded. “Yeah, weird, huh?” I pointed haphazardly over the screen. “It looks like she’s changed a lot since her high school graduation photo was taken. She could be your sister, Amy.”
“Why, because she dyed her hair and put on some makeup?” Amy shrugged, before crossing my room and plopping down on my bed. “She looks better if you ask me.”
“Well … yeah. It’s not a bad look. It’s just different. Do you think they questioned Henry—you know when Carrie went missing?” I turned to look at her.
Amy squinted at me. “Who?”
Oh my God, Amy, how could you forget HIM?
I raised both hands in the air, exasperated. “You know. Henry—the man you were just screaming at.”
Amy’s face opened, showing clarity. She nodded. “Oooooh, you mean, Norman Bates. Yes, I’m sure they did. Why?”

Since she was a little girl, Tricia T. LaRochelle has been obsessed with tragic love stories. No
beach reads for her. Bring on the grit with a double side of turmoil. She likes to feel the character’s anguish as they fight to overcome obstacles to be together. Growing up in central
Vermont, she has seen her share of tragedy but remains a hopeful romantic. She now lives in
central Virginia where she continues to foster the possibilities of how love can conquer all.

Review:

Last Seen Alive by Carolyn Arnold is the 6th book in her Detective Amanda Steele series.  I have noted this many times, that I am a big fan of Arnold, having read most of her series, and I love this series, which continues with another great addition.  Last Seen Alive was fantastic, with me unable to put the book down.  Amanda Steele, our heroine, is a homicide detective in Dumfries, Virginia Police Department

The story starts off with Amanda, having been out with friends, ends up at her ex-boyfriend’s (Logan) house, when they find the body of a woman fatally shot: the woman happens to be Logan’s ex wife, whom he has not seen in 4 years. Amanda pushes Logan out of the room, calls for help, which will also bring her partner Trent.  Amanda’s nasty sergeant, pulls her off the case, since the police suspect Logan killed his wife. Amanda knows Logan is innocent, and together with Trent, they go all out to find the murderer, with her sargeant allowing her to get back on case. Amanda was determined to uncover Claire’s last steps, and learns that her previous boss also was killed the day before.  What is the connection, and who else could be in danger.

Amanda and Trent worked very well together, with Trent getting Amanda to go home at night to be with her daughter, Zoe.  I really liked how Trent became a better partner to Amanda, and enjoyed how well they worked together.  Amanda is a fabulous heroine, who goes beyond, as well as being emotional, with somewhat of a temper; but she is a master as solving crimes. They discover that Claire (Logans ex) was involved in stealing various paintings and artifacts over the years, and they go all out to find out who was working with Claire.

What follows is an exciting, suspenseful, intriguing, tense mystery that kept me unable to put the book down, as this was a mind-blowing thriller. There were so many suspects, and even surprises at the end. To say too much more would be spoilers, and this was a great good story that needs to be read from start to finish, especially with so much going on that keeps us glued to the book. It is important to read this story from start to finish.

Last Seen Alive was a very good excellent crime thriller that was suspenseful, intense, and kept us guessing who was the murderer to the end. Amanda and Trent were so very good together.  Last Seen Alive was so very well written by Carolyn Arnold, and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next. If you like mystery thrillers, police procedural, then you need to be reading this book.
