Description:
Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t.

They broke up six months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

Which is how they find themselves sharing the largest bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blue week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most.

Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other. Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week they’ll all have together in this place. They can’t stand to break their friends’ hearts, and so they’ll play their parts. Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show. It’s a flawless plan (if you look at it from a great distance and through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses). After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week…in front of those who know you best?

Review:

Happy Place by Emily Henry is a fun sweet romantic standalone novel.   We meet our heroine, Harriet, a surgical doctor, who is invited to her annual Happy Place, where she spent the last 10 years with her wonderful and fun best friends, Sabrina and Cleo; after college Parth, Wyn and Kimmie became part of the group. When Harriet heard that Sabrina’s father was selling their Happy Place, she knew it may be the last time they get together.  Sabrina, a lawyer, has been dating Parth, also a lawyer, and they planned to get married.  Cleo, a farmer, was with Kimmie. Harriet has kept a secret from her friends, as she and Wyn (together for 8 years) broke up 5months ago, and to her shock, when she arrives, Wyn is there.

They both agree not to ruin the week with the news of their breakup, and tell them when the holiday is over.  So they pretend to be together, sharing a room, and totally fake dating (not admitting their attraction to each other remains). Harriet has still not gotten over why Wyn broke up with her in a brief phone call.

What follows is a fun, sweet week with all of them enjoying each other’s company, drinking wine & cheese, eating at various restaurants, having the time of their lives in their sun filled happy place. Harriet and Wyn began to succumb to their feelings, and the chemistry between them was hot; but would that be enough to bring them together, after the week was over? Slowly, things change, as each of the couples have issues, which caused concern.  Harriet was always the one who kept others together, never fighting, as she hated conflicts, and wanted to please everyone.

Happy Place was a wonderful second chance romance, with fantastic friendships, family atmosphere, and love all around. I loved Harriet’s fantastic friends in Sabrina and Cleo, and really like Parth, Wyn and Kimmie.  It was so much fun to see them together. As we got closer to the end, secrets are revealed, causing possible break of friendships.  An amazing group of friends will rise to the occasion, to bring love back into the picture.  Happy Place was so very well written by Emily Henry. I really enjoyed this book, and suggest you need to read this.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 25, 2023

It’s 1938, and a young woman selling face cream out of a New York City beauty parlor is determined to prove she can have it all. Her name is Estée Lauder, and she’s about to take the world by storm, in this dazzling new novel from the USA Today bestselling author of The Social Graces and Park Avenue Summer.

In New York City, you can disappear into the crowd. At least that’s what Gloria Downing desperately hopes as she tries to reinvent herself after a devastating family scandal. She’s ready for a total life makeover and a friend she can lean on—and into her path walks a young, idealistic woman named Estée. Their chance encounter will change Gloria’s life forever.

Estée dreams of success and becoming a household name like Elizabeth Arden, Helena Rubinstein, and Revlon. Before Gloria knows it, she is swept up in her new friend’s mission and while Estée rolls up her sleeves, Gloria begins to discover her own talents. After landing a job at Saks Fifth Avenue, New York’s finest luxury department store, Gloria finds her voice, which proves instrumental in opening doors for Estée’s insatiable ambitions.

But in a world unaccustomed to women with power, they’ll each have to pay the price that comes with daring to live life on their own terms and refusing to back down.

•••••

REVIEW:FIFTH AVENUE GLAMOUR GIRL by Renee Rosen is an adult, fictionalized historical tale about the rise of cosmetics giant Estée Lauder told through the eyes of Gloria Downing.

Told from first person perspective (Gloria) following two separate timelines (1938-1946) and (1984) FIFTH AVENUE GLAMOUR GIRL follows down on her luck Gloria Downing as she struggles in the wake of losing everything after a scandal that destroyed her family, sending her father to jail. Working as a shampoo girl in a local Manhattan salon in 1938, Gloria would meet struggling cosmetics entrepreneur Estée Lauder, as Estee ventured into a world dominated by men. With the ongoing depression, and an economy about to be devastated by war, Gloria found herself jobless, on the outside looking in until landing a job at Saks Fifth Avenue. As Gloria’s star began to rise from counter girl to buyer, Estee would push the boundaries of friendship, desperate for a chance to promote her beauty line at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Neither Gloria Downing nor Estée Lauder were who they represented themselves to be. Having had to reimagine the face they presented to the world, Gloria would disown the father who brought down the family with a financial scandal, and Estee chose to put business before family and love. Gloria will have loved and lost twice before finding her own happily ever after, and only one man would ever hold Estee’s heart but Estee was always looking for something more and exciting. Estee and Gloria’s often embattled relationship would result in a lifelong friendship between two people whose secrets and lies were but one scandal away from total implosion.

FIFTH AVENUE GLAMOUR GIRL is a fictionalized account of Estée Lauder’s foray into, and her rise in the world of perfumes and cosmetics. Some of the information is based in fact while much of the story is a fantasy brought to life from the mind of Renee Rosen. The premise is entertaining, engaging and interesting; the characters are larger than life yet real and vulnerable.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 25, 2023

Knives Out and Ocean’s 8 meets The Nest in this hilariously twisty novel by award-winning author HelenKay Dimon, about a woman who returns home from prison to her dysfunctional con artist family and tries to get them to go legit.

One day a con man met an heiress, wooed her, married her, had two kids…and kept on conning. Jillian Moorewood is the oldest child from that meet-cute-gone-wrong marriage. The stable one. The sensible and dependable one. The one who protects and fixes. The one who went to prison to save their sorry butts. Now, thirty-nine months later, she’s out and she’s more than a little pissed. Finally home she finds the scheming clan in full family fleecing mode. They all claim they didn’t really agree to Jillian’s previous go-legit-or-else ultimatum before she went away. They viewed it as a “suggestion” then ignored it. So, business as usual. But Jillian is done with the lies and fakery. She demands the whole messed-up crew clean up its act, and this time she’s not kidding—she has the leverage to make it happen.

Problem is, her life is in shambles, but with the help of a great aunt (crooked but loveable), a bodyguard (who is a nice surprise after three years in prison), and a few allies (all working undercover), Jillian starts to put her life back together. She kicks out a few mooching relatives living under her roof, sets limits on everyone’s access to the money, ducks from their various attacks, and sees if that bodyguard is maybe interested in sticking around for a while. For the first time, she’s Jillian Moorewood, her own woman, and she’s ready to figure out who she is.

•••••

REVIEW:  MOOREWOOD FAMILY RULES by HelenKay Dimon is a contemporary, adult, stand alone story of mystery and suspense surrounding the Rhode Island, dysfunctional Moorewood family of grifters, liars, cheaters and thieves-Jillian Moorewood, her sister Emma, their cousins Tenn, Anika and Astrid-their father Jay, and great aunt Patricia.

Approximately thirty-nine months earlier, Jillian Moorewood took the fall for her family in the wake of an FBI investigation into fraudulent claims and financial crimes. The Moorewood family come from a long line of grifters and scammers, and their thieving ways had caught up. Someone in the family turned the blame on our story line heroine, who upon her release, set about to uncover the who and how. Terms are presented, threats are made, and mandates not met as Jillian sets about to reclaim everything she lost but Jillian needs protection, and estate manager Kelby hired Beckett Romer to stand guard over Jillian Moorewood. With Beck at her side, Jillian begins to ferret out the truth, devising a plan to give everyone exactly, what they deserve.

There is a very large and often confusing ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters, few of whom have any redeeming qualities including the aforementioned Moorewood family members: Gregory Paul (jillian’s ex) and Emma’s new boyfriend; Security/bodyguard Beck Romer, family business manager Kelby McAllister, Harry (Anika’s boyfriend), Harry’s mother Beverly Tolson, and Jay’s girlfriend Izzy.

MOOREWOOD FAMILY RULES is a story of power and control, deception and betrayal, and reads like a mix between Clue™ and Knives Out™. The family of grifters are scamming one another, conning their soon to be significant others, and getting conned themselves. Jillian Moorewood’s mandate to stop conning, upon her arrest, only intensified the family’s need to amass a collection that does not belong. The premise is intriguing, interesting and detailed; the romance between Jillian and Beck is subtle, almost a cozy mystery feel; the characters are numerous but most are questionable, misguided, unethical and immorally wrong

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 21, 2023

A story of love at first sight. Then everything, including reality, gets in the way.

When Wyatt meets Sean sparks fly. Their Zoom encounters, although work-related, generate the most unusual electronic reactions. But when they meet in the flesh he forgets all about contacting technical support because Sean is even more electrifying in person — an unusual experience for a Grindr-jaded Wyatt.

But the interference continues and every time they meet Sean appears to get cold feet. Wyatt’s no fool. He knows the attraction is mutual. Neither is he desperate for attention. He gets plenty of that on his own. Sean is either up to something, he figures, or he’s frightened because he keeps coming back but retreats every time.

Two worlds collide. Disillusioned at thirty-five, Wyatt leads a life that suits him. Affable to all but open to few, he’s more-or-less content, a little bored, and not bad on his own. As far as he’s concerned, he’s seen and heard it all.

Sean is different. Brimming with enthusiasm, he stumbles into Wyatt’s life like an overgrown puppy. Almost unnaturally handsome, he comes with none of the personality traits of the physically endowed. Yet, beneath the spectacular appearance is a man who’s awkward with people and reluctant to talk about himself.

Each is fascinated by the other and neither wants to make the first move. Sean appears to hesitate and Wyatt, normally a hook-up pro, is lost. Despite his growing frustration — or perhaps because of it — he persists in hoping they’ll get together one day. And when that day comes the intimacy is greater than he’d ever imagined.

Even locked in Wyatt’s arms, however, Sean refuses to talk about himself. But bouts of sex and declarations of love break down his barriers, and one by one, he lets his secrets drop. At first, Wyatt doesn’t believe him. Worse, he doubts his sanity. He’d expected to hear stories of an unhappy childhood, not fantastical fabrications of a life that cannot be.

But with each secret revealed Sean demonstrates its truth until Wyatt is stuck between forsaking the world as he knows it or walking away. He hasn’t got much time, though. Sean has even more secrets and he’s not alone.

••••••

REVIEW:SEEING SEAN by Patrick Doyle is an adult, sci-fi, LGBTQ romance storyline focusing on call-center co-workers thirty-five year old Wyatt, and twenty-six year old Sean.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Wyatt and Sean) SEEING SEAN focuses on the building relationship between call-center co-workers thirty-five year old Wyatt, and twenty-six year old Sean. Wyatt was tasked with getting to know their new employee Sean but Sean had opted to work from home. A work-place party would be the perfect opportunity to introduce Sean to everyone else but all was not as it appeared to be. From the outset, Wyatt struggled with the perfection that was the man with whom he would quickly fall in love, a man as mysterious as the events that were about to upend their lives. On the run, Sean would discover everything about his life had been a lie, and Wyatt would be the stabilizing factor in their lives going forward.

SEEING SEAN is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and innocence all wrapped up in a science fiction narrative of what if and why. A thought provoking, haunting and imaginative tale, SEEING SEAN is both sweet and edgy, tender and tragic. The world building is told through the innocent and somewhat naïve voice of Sean, a voice that is neither naïve nor weak. Patrick Doyle pulls from several familiar and popular tropes including a much touted and successful video game turned television series

With any chance of happiness drifting farther out of reach, Vasile fights to connect with Corky, to prove his devotion even if he doesn’t have the words.

REVIEW: It’s been a while since I read this series, and looking up the books, it’s been a while since one was written, so I quickly ran through the previous books. It’s not really necessary to read in order, but some of the storylines will make better sense. And I promise you they are worth the time.

*There are triggers in these books that might upset a few people, so my advise is to read the warnings before heading in…..

Corky “Catherine” Disdale owes her life to Mary, her foster mother, who took her in and raised her with love and a strong sense of justice. So when a big company comes knocking on her foster mother’s door for her land, Corky takes up the gauntlet to defend her. She’s also on a high from receiving a job offer from a top law firm, so winning this case with have double the joy……

Vasile Lazăr, is an old world vampire, he’s now trying to be a warrior in his new town of Ţărână. But trying to fit in is proving hard, the language barrier and customs of this new town is daunting, but he’s determined to fit in and find a balance in his new life.

I have to admit the way the author wrote Vasile was a little strange at first, but once you get into his headspace, Vasile’s language and thought process is easy to follow. But things don’t go Corky’s way…. Her boyfriend dumps her whilst defending her client, her new job vanishes, and it looks like the only home she’s ever known will be sold out from under her foster mother!! Can her day get any worse?

Not gonna lie, I soooooo wanted to ? his lights out!!! Man, was he an annoying a$$!

Vasile and Corky meet and for him it’s instant attraction on his side, but Corky needs a little more convincing as he almost attacks her!

There is also another story going on with another new member in this town Reece! And don’t forget the enemy haven’t given up trying to acquire women for their own males! Corky and Vasile slowly get to know one another, he’s hoping it’s a courting that will lead to his own female, she’s not going to commit (although she’s loving the new job/friends and town she’s relocated to.)

I now remember why I liked these books. A slow burn romance with a great storyline. Characters that hold your attention till the last page.

Plenty of twists and turns. We also get to meet a few new friends, and frown at the ending of the book. (Nothing bad, just leaving it open for the next book!)

They realize this new zone may be impossible to escape unscathed.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 21, 2023

The barely old enough to drink girl I’m forced to marry is an anime-loving, manga-reading, selective mute brat who wears too much eyeliner that highlights the anger in her eyes. Neither of us want this marriage but it will happen. I’ve worked too hard for too long not to do whatever it takes to run Vegas on behalf of the Outfit.

I’m not surprised when Carina runs. What I wasn’t ready for is how much I want to catch her. Not because I have to marry her, because I want to—want her. I want her for her. Panic attacks, eyeliner, curvy gorgeous body, and all. The problem comes with convincing her.

Carina may take some to believe me, believe in me. I’m not worried. We have all the time in the world because she belongs to me and I’m never letting her go.

***This features rough sexual scenes and a young woman using substance to self-medicate. And a ‘warning’ I never thought I would have to include is there is pregnancy in the book. If such things offend you please do not buy. This is a standalone that takes place in the Sabatini world. Milos and Celia from Beautiful Broken Obsession also appear as Carina is Celia’s sister. You need not have read any other book to enjoy this. If you want to, there are two books that leads directly into this is HIS: Luca and Beautiful Broken Obsession

REVIEW:HIS VICIOUS VOW is the first instalment in Fiona Murphy contemporary, adult, VICIOUS VEGAS erotic, Mafia romance story lines set in the author’s Sabatini world. This is thirty-eight year old, Alessandro ‘Sandro’ Leonetti , and twenty-two year old Carina Parker’s story line. HIS VICIOUS VOW can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Sandro and Carina) HIS VICIOUS VOW follows the arranged marriage between thirty-eight year old, Alessandro ‘Sandro’ Leonetti , and twenty-two year old Carina Parker. Carina’s father is the don of the Chicago Mafia, and there is an opening in the Vegas territory. In an effort to secure his position, Sandro is ‘forced’ to marry don Toro’s youngest daughter Carina, a young woman with several emotional issues, and a need to disguise herself and her weight in a number of cosplay costumes but from the outset Sandro wants our story line heroine, a young woman who is struggling to find a place of her own. Forced into a marriage she does not want, Carina is determined to make things difficult for our story line hero until she finds herself falling for a man who could break her heart. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Sandro and Carina, and the potential fall-out Carina continues to struggle with demons from the past, demons that refuse to let go, falling our heroine into her marriage of convenience.

Carina Parker has never known love, and her ongoing behavior and actions continue to push the proverbial envelope of acceptance and respect. In an effort to become her own person, she have ventured away from the cold actions of her parents, a venture that has created rumors and innuendo about the life she has led. Sandro has raised his younger sister since the death of their parents but Sandro never expected to find himself falling for a woman fifteen years younger. A battle of wills finds our couple at continuous odds, a battle that threatens both of their hearts. Not all is well within the Vegas Mafia family, and Sandro is forced to ferret out the person responsible for placing a target on his back, and the back of the woman he loves.

The relationship between Sandro and Carina is a forced proximity, arranged marriage, age-gap Mafia romance in which Sandro finds himself attracted to a woman even her parents refuse to love. In an effort to gain control of the Vegas territory, Sandro must ‘tame’ the players, and the woman that calls to his heart. Carina never expected to fall in love with the man she was forced to marry but her issues of low self esteem, and an inability to trust are further ingrained by emotionally abusive parents, and her new sister in law that is refusing to bow down. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.

We are introduced to Sandro’s sister Bianca; Carina’s sister Celia and her husband Milos Levin (Beautiful Broken Obsession), and their parent Carlo Toro and Cassandra Parker; Luca, Dominic and Tony Sabatini, and their significant others, as well as Sandro’s assistant Natasha, and event planner Lauren Harbaugh.

HIS VICIOUS VOW is a story of dysfunctional family dynamics, betrayal and vengeance; power and control, rejection and obsession, acceptance and love. The premise is intriguing, captivating and dramatic; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are desperate, determined and dynamic.

Beautiful Broken Obsession
Beautiful Broken Vengeance

Due to commitment issues I have lived in many different cities and my favorite is Chicago but I have managed to settle into Austin and perhaps my commitment issues are behind me.

I have enjoyed reading from a very young age and it wasn’t long before the children books bored me and I read the books my mother enjoyed Stephen King and Dean Koontz and I didn’t sleep without the light on until I was about ten.

I came across my first Harlequin by accident and it was love at first read, no one died and happy endings? It was a whole new world and I loved it.

I wrote my first story at eight and everyone died, of course. Since then I would like to think I’ve gotten better and now I’m writing the happily ever afters I first fell in love with, with some hot sex thrown in along the way.

As a plus size woman myself, I have started writing the stories I always wanted to see myself in but never did. And now I’m ecstatic to give BBWs the happily ever afters with hot Alphas I want to read.

Kitty, and the twins Dottie and Dani have absconded with an SUV from the Devil’s Handmaidens MC, and are headed to Texas to help Hannah with her once in a life time dream, to meet the people behind the books that she loves to read but the foursome have left behind a p*ssed of Prez, and angry MC, who refuse to let the prospects venture on their own. Along the way, the prospects will come face to face with a potential stalker, a young man who will catch the heart of one of our story line heroines but all is not well upon reaching their destination when Zoey aka Shadow’s past returns bringing trouble right behind.

RUNNING WILD is a fast paced, almost frenetic story line with numerous characters including several members of the Grimm Wolves MC. The premise is entertaining and fun with serious and dramatic moments; the romance between Hannah and Presley has only just begun.
