ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 10, 2023

I made plans. I followed the path. I fell in love.

Then the world took her away from me.

I swore to never love again, and I’ve done all I could to keep that vow.

But life finds a way and I can’t stop this burning attraction with my best friend.

Maddie stood by me when my world shattered.

She deserves more than a broken man who promised to never love again.

Only I swear she feels the same way about me. And I have no idea what to do about it.

Now she might leave the Wilders and I can’t tell her to stay—even if it means shattering the one piece of me I have left.

REVIEW:Coming Home for Us is the fourth installment in the Wilder Brothers series by Carrie Ann Ryan. This series is home to the ex-military Wilder brothers and the women they fall for. As always, I recommend reading a series in order to get the best experience of the story, but C.A.R does provide enough goodness if you chose to read as a standalone.

Maddie and Elijah are the couple for this adventure, and of course we get a nice visit from the previous three pairs from the first few books. Maddie is a wholesome, good girl who is looking to find herself, and she does that at the Wilders Vineyard. Maddie and Elijah’s romance is a bit like a best friend/coworker romance, she falls for him, but he doesn’t see her as anything but a friend, falls for another women, breaking Maddie’s heart in the process, tragedy strikes, grief and pain ensue and then finally light and love shine again.

When Maddie has to make a hard choice to stay or go, she is conflicted and unsure. She loves the life and the family and friends she has built at the vineyard, but seeing Elijah and not being able to be with him, is so painful. Is a change worth it? When Elijah loses the women he thought he would spend his life with, he’s a hot mess, let’s be honest. Understandably. Slowly he starts to see the light again, and Maddie, but she’s not the same as she was before. Or so Elijah thinks. After years, even with Elijah determined to never go through that pain again and swearing off love, Maddie happens. When he starts seeing her in a more womanly way, he starts to think that maybe being happy isn’t as scary as he thought it would be.

Maddie and Elijah were so loveable! The rest of the Wilder family was rooting for them so much, all wanting two of their favorite people to be happy together. I really liked that we got a full story with Maddie and Elijah, even with all the pain he had to go through with Joy, to finally get his HEA was so amazing. This series is a keeper for sure, I can’t wait to see what comes next in the series. I hope that Lark will get a story!!

•••••

REVIEW:CAPTIVATE is the fifth instalment in KE Osborn’s contemporary, adult NOLA Defiance MC erotic, MC romance series. This is thirty-five year old, Jay ‘Raid’ and thirty year old, club girl Frankie’s story line. CAPTIVATE can be read as a standalone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Raid and Frankie) CAPTIVATE follows in the wake of the appearance of ghosts from the past. Approximately fifteen years earlier our hero Jay had fallen in love with his best friend Sophie but hours before Jay was about to propose, Sophie ghosted Jay without looking back. Fast forward to present day Jay, now known as Raid, and a member of the NOLA Defiance MC, comes face to face with the woman that destroyed his heart but Sophie is sick , and she isn’t alone. Raid has a daughter, a young woman he knew nothing about, a fourteen year old teenager that is struggling with what is happening and why. Meanwhile, Raid’s attraction to club girl Frankie must be put on hold in the wake of the impending grief and fall-out of Sophie’s return. As Raid battles between head and heart, Frankie takes Addi under her wing, knowing life as she knows it is about to change. What ensues is the building relationship between Frankie and Raid, as Raid struggles to navigate fatherhood, and the death of someone he once loved.

Meanwhile, the NOLA Defiance MC continue to have problems with Iron Chains MC. From human trafficking to stolen drug shipments, the Iron Chains MC is pushing into the Defiance territory, a push that will directly affect the lives of the people Raid loves.

The relationship between Frankie and Raid is a ‘friends’ to lovers relationship. Frankie is the top club girl, and as such her job is to ensure everyone is happy and knows their place but Frankie, having been with most men in the club, only has eyes for our story line hero, a man who continues to push our heroine to the side. With the appearance of Raid’s past, Frankie accepts that his heart and mind are with someone else but our heroine is strong enough to know, that there is little reason to be jealous of a ghost from the past. The $ex scenes are erotic and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and dynamic secondary and supporting characters including many of the NOLA Defiance MC members and Iron Chains MC. We are introduced to Raid’s daughter Addilyn, and her mother Sophie, as well s Frankie’s friends and classmates Jasmine and Dan. The requisite evil has many faces.

CAPTIVATE is a story of secrets and lies, family and relationships, forgiveness and acceptance, grief and love. The premise is heart breaking and emotional; the romance is provocative and intense; the characters are charismatic and strong willed.

Homecoming by Kate Morton -a review

Homecoming by Kate Morton -a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Google Play /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 4, 2023

Adelaide Hills, Christmas Eve, 1959: At the end of a scorching hot day, beside a creek on the grounds of the grand and mysterious mansion, a local delivery man makes a terrible discovery. A police investigation is called and the small town of Tambilla becomes embroiled in one of the most shocking and perplexing murder cases in the history of South Australia.

Sixty years later, Jess is a journalist in search of a story. Having lived and worked in London for almost twenty years, she now finds herself laid off from her full-time job and struggling to make ends meet. A phone call out of nowhere summons her back to Sydney, where her beloved grandmother, Nora, who raised Jess when her mother could not, has suffered a fall and been raced to the hospital.

Nora has always been a vibrant and strong presence: decisive, encouraging, young despite her years. When Jess visits her in the hospital, she is alarmed to find her grandmother frail and confused. It’s even more alarming to hear from Nora’s housekeeper that Nora had been distracted in the weeks before her accident and had fallen on the steps to the attic—the one place Jess was forbidden from playing in when she was small.

At loose ends in Nora’s house, Jess does some digging of her own. In Nora’s bedroom, she discovers a true crime book, chronicling the police investigation into a long-buried tragedy: the Turner Family Tragedy of Christmas Eve, 1959. It is only when Jess skims through the book that she finds a shocking connection between her own family and this once-infamous crime—a crime that has never been resolved satisfactorily. And for a journalist without a story, a cold case might be the best distraction she can find…

An epic novel that spans generations, Homecoming asks what we would do for those we love, and how we protect the lies we tell. It explores the power of motherhood, the corrosive effects of tightly held secrets, and the healing nature of truth. Above all, it is a beguiling and immensely satisfying novel from one of the finest writers working today.

REVIEW:HOMECOMING by Kate Morton is an adult, historical fiction, mystery thriller focusing on one family, two distinct time lines 1959 and 2018, and several intersecting memories, reflections, journals and books following in the aftermath of the murder of an entire family.

Told in nine parts, from several third person perspectives, numerous timelines as well as a novel recounting what happened years before, HOMECOMING follows UK journalist Jessica Turner-Bridges in 2018 as she is tasked with returning to Australia in the wake of her beloved grandmother’s fall but upon her arrival Jessica begins to unravel a dark, family secret revealing the 1959 murder of a not so distant family she knew nothing about. When Jess was a child, her mother Polly walked away from her only daughter, leaving her in the care of her grandmother Nora Turner-Bridges, and the two have been estranged ever since. Fast forward to present day, Jessica battles between head and heart when her ailing grandmother’s strange utterances and cries prior to death, reveal a dark family secret that immediately pushes Jessica to uncover the truth, a truth about the murders connected to her past.

HOMECOMING is a complex, detailed, thought provoking and powerful story of secrets and lies, family and relationships, betrayal and acceptance. The world building is intricate and exhaustive, meandering through sixty years of secrets and rumors, secrets that reveal a troubling past predicated upon murder and deception. The premise is expository and tangible; the characters are numerous, trouble and looking for answers.

Velma Gone Awry (Brooklyn 8 Ballo Mystery) by Matt Cost-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 12,2023

8 Ballo’s mother was certain he was going to be born a girl, but when he comes out a boy, she writes down simply the number 8, as he has seven older siblings. She meant to change it to a real name at some point but never got around to it.

Now, in his mid-thirties, 8 is a college educated man, a veteran of the Great War, jilted in love, and has his own private investigator business. He enjoys his friends, a good book, jazz music, and a very simple life. When he is hired to find the young flapper daughter of a German businessman, life suddenly becomes much more complicated.

•••••

REVIEW: VELMA GONE AWRY is the first instalment in Matt Cost’s historical, adult BROOKLYN 8 BALLO noir mystery, crime series set in the roaring 20s, focusing on Brooklyn PI 8 Ballo.

Told from limited omniscient third person perspective VELMA GONE AWRY focuses on the search for twenty-something heiress and ‘flapper’ Velma Hartmann. Velma has gone missing, and her well-connected father is desperate for her return so Fritz Hartmann hires private investigator 8 Ballo to find and return his wayward girl but from the outset 8 Ballo finds himself facing down gangsters and mobsters during the Prohibition era of the roaring 20s, mobsters that are also looking for the same woman as our story line hero.

VELMA GONE AWRY is a ‘noir’ detective novel set in the 1920s during the American Prohibition era where speakeasies and jazz clubs are all the rage, hiding the criminal activity of gangsters and mobsters behind music and illegal booze. Matt Cost pulls the reader into a who’s who of the early twentieth century famous and infamous: Arnold Rothstein, Bugsy Siegal and Myer Lansky, Dorothy Parker, F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby, Al Jolson, George Gershwin and baseball great Babe Ruth. We are up close and personal with movie stars, singers, writers and poets, professional sports stars, as well as famous landmarks and speakeasies, and the big names in organized crime including several members of The Five Points Gang. The racism and discrimination of the 1920s is front and center as a world at war creates a war on the streets between anyone and everyone deemed not of their kind.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and ‘familiar’ secondary and supporting characters many of whom have been written about, and starred in our history books and theater. We are introduced to 8 Ballo’s best friend, African American businessman Pearle Hill.

VELMA GONE AWRY is a fast paced, action packed story of secrets and lies, power and control, murder and mayhem, crime and punishment. The character driven premise is twisted and dramatic; the characters are edgy and passionate.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 6, 2023

I’ve always been a part of the world of monsters. Storms thrive on the energy of other storms. In many ways, all monsters are perfect storms. That’s why they’re hunted. Content with a life of work and friends, I somehow find myself falling for the eleven gorgeous storms of House Igarashi. Settling in with them is natural, as if I’ve always been missing these pieces and suddenly I can take a breath of fresh hair. And then the Division of Silence threatens to take it all away. My name is Hadley. I am a lightning storm. If I lose even a single one of my men, I’m going to bring this world to its knees with blinding fury from the sky.

This is a polyamorous story with content not intended for those under 18 years of age due to graphic scenes and situations.

•••••

REVIEW:It’s the continuation from book one, so you’ll definitely need to ready that one before diving into this one…..

It’s still told in the Bronte and Hadley points of view, but it’s not all about them, it’s a story involving all of the harem.

Hadley is settling down to living her life with her houseful of “husbands” although she’s still sad that she’s lost her friends who didn’t understand her decision to move in with 11 men!! But she’s making new friends with the help of Bronte. She just needs a job!

Bronte is getting use to asking for what he wants and not what he thinks everyone else needs. The love that keeps the household together is shown through Bronte. But after the attack, Bronte has so many doubts and fears, he’s not sure if he will ever get past them!!!

The book starts off with a huge bang!! And I’m sure there were tears and snot bubbles (including mine!!) and from there on it’s a rollercoaster of a ride!! The organisation that what’s them eliminated have stepped up their campaign, no one that is in a harem is safe!

So what do the groups decide? After long discussions and debates, they want to go on the offence, take the fight to the organisation. Bronte wants revenge, but he doesn’t know how to go about it, he also just wants to hide and keep his family safe. Hadley feels the same, but her power wants revenge. Her husbands want to keep Hadley and Bronte safe, they don’t know who will be next…..

The duet has become my favourite in this series. The emotions will have you on the edge of your seat, the twists and turns come in thick and fast.

And we catch up with previous harems which I love. The banter and connections will have you smiling. I don’t want to give too much away about the ending, but it wasn’t what I was expecting.

A really highly recommended read.

Crea lives in upstate New York with her dog and husband. She has been writing since grade school, when her second grade teacher had her class keep writing journals. She has a habit of creating secondary, and often time tertiary, characters that take over her stories. All of her RH relationships end up being heavily polyamorous – meaning it’s not just all the men for one woman. There’s also some M/M action going on. When she can’t fall asleep at night, she thinks up new scenes for her characters to act out. This, of course, is how most of her meant-to-be-thrown-away characters tend to end up front and center – and utterly swoon-worthy! Don’t ask her how many book boyfriends she has…

When not writing, Crea is an avid reader. Her TBR pile is several hundred books high (don’t even look at her kindle wish list or the unread books on her tablet). Sometimes, she enjoys crafting; sometimes, exploring nature; sometimes, traveling. Mostly, she enjoys putting her characters on paper and breathing life into them. Oh, and sleeping. ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 6, 2023

Welcome back to Redwood University, where nothing is as it seems…and I’m stronger than anyone expects.

My nineteenth birthday awakened something within me, revealing truths I could’ve never imagined. My new powers do not come without risk, though, and the future of shifters everywhere rests upon my shoulders.

As my mate is preparing to challenge his father, the evil alpha proves he has a few tricks up his sleeve that could destroy the entire supernatural community.

It’s a fight for our lives, but as Alexei and I have learned, we are stronger together. If Alpha Jones wants to steal our fate, then we’ll band together and take him down.

Because no one is going to deny us our happily ever after.

••••••

REVIEW: TO CLAIM A MATE is the third and final instalment in Poppy Ireland’s contemporary, new adult REDWOOD UNIVERSITY paranormal, romance trilogy focusing on heir to the Redwood Pack Alpha Alexei Koenig, and eighteen year old Nicole Fairweather. TO CLAIM A MATE cannot be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events and cliff hanger of book two TO SAVE A MATE. If you have not read the previous two instalments there may be spoilers in my review.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise including graphic violence, strong language and questionable consent, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from several first person perspectives ( Alexei, Nicole, General Minifred, Christian) TO CLAIM A MATE follows in the wake of the disappearance of our story line heroine. Nicole Fairweather has always believed she is human but the approach of her nineteenth birthday brings with it an unknown power inherited from the mother she never knew. As Alpha Jones takes aim at all races of the supernatural, Nicole finds herself hiding and training with the Fae, as her mate Alexei Koenig is whisked through a portal with a coven of witches.Working together to stop the destructive reign of Alpha Jones, Alexei and Nicole will prove their mating and match are fated and real.

The relationship between Nicole and Alexei is one of fated mates but one of which several wolves including the Alpha refuse to accept. Nicole is thought to be human but Nicole is much than anyone could have ever imagined. As Nicole struggles to come into her powers, Alexei must take a stand in an effort to take control from the top. The $ex scenes are erotic, seductive and provocative.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and magical secondary and supporting from several supernatural factions including shifters, vampires, witches and Fae. Alexei’s second in command and beta Corbin finds his mate in Nicole’s best friend Bee, and there is a second chance at love Nicole’s father, Alexei’s mother, and Bee’s father General Minifred. I am hoping the authors have future story lines planned for several of the secondary characters.

TO CLAIM A MATE is a detail and complex story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, madness and mayhem, magic and fate. The fast paced, action packed and character driven premise is dramatic and intense; the romance is fated and passionate; the characters are energetic, enchanted and powerful.

•••••

REVIEW:BLOOD MONEY: Vittorio is the second instalment in Kristine Allen’s contemporary, adult LA FAMIGLIA DE LUCA erotic, Mafia romance series-a part of the multi-authored MAYHEM MAKERS SERIES. This is twenty-eight year old, Chicago underboss Vittorio De Luca, and twenty-six year old Kendall’s story line. BLOOD MONEY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Some of the events of BLOOD MONEY cross over with, and run parallel to some of the events of book one BLOOD LUST.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be trigger for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Vittorio and Kendall) BLOOD MONEY follows the second chance romance and relationship between twenty-eight year old, Chicago underboss Vittorio De Luca, and twenty-six year old Kendall. Ten years earlier, Vittorio De Luca, of the De Luca crime family, fell in love with Kendall, the granddaughter of a small bakery owner, against his grandfather’s wishes. In an effort to protect the woman he loved, Vittorio walked away but never forgot about the woman that called to his heart. Fast forward to present day, Vittorio will discover Kendall has returned in the wake of her grandmother’s illness, a return that brings with it memories from the past but all is not well in Chicago, as someone is trying to encroach on the De Luca territory, taking aim at our story line heroine. What ensues is the rekindling romance and relationship between Vittorio and Kendall, and the potential fall-out as Kendall struggles with what happened and why, and Vittorio learns the truth about Kendall’s heart breaking past.

Kendall had quickly fallen in love with Vittorio De Luca. A summer spent together ended with Kendall’s broken heart, and Vittorio a no-show to say goodbye. Ten years would pass before Kendall would see Vittorio but memories would never erase the loss and heart break of what could have been. Vittorio De Luca’s life was never his own, and his relationship with Kendall went against his grandfather’s laws. In an effort to protect Kendall, Vittorio was about to destroy the woman he loved but her destruction would come at a much larger cost.

The relationship between Vittorio and Kendall begins as a forbidden romance; a summer affair that ended painfully cruel and surprisingly hard. Vittorio was desperate to protect our story line heroine but in doing so would lose much more than the woman who had stolen his heart. Kendall’s return to Chicago meant a second chance for Vittorio but a second chance that would come with new and different threats for the De Luca family. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to Vittorio’s brothers Gabriel, Alessio, Lorenzo and Leo; friends/security Pietro and Dario, as well as Vittorio’s grandfather, their father, and Kendall’s Nonna, and parents. The requisite evil has many faces. The author includes cameos and drops the name of several other authors (including her own) who are participating in the Mayhem Makers series.

BLOOD MONEY is a story of family and relationships, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, second chances and forgiveness, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is emotional and captivating; the romance is provocative and seductive; the characters are charismatic, powerful yet vulnerable and lost.

He’s a younger man. An ex-Marine with a traumatic past. And he wants only one thing.
Her.

The last thing Jo Rossi expects when she goes to Remington for a make-or-break audition is to end up meeting an ex-Marine who’s more than half a decade younger than her and hotter than a freaking supernova.

And wait. Is he flirting with her?

The one and only time Jo has ever acted on impulse, she ended up with a surprise baby and a career she had to put on hold for six years. She needs to play it safe. Smart. And she definitely needs to not have a wild, impulsive, no-strings-attached fling so far from home.

Except Sawyer Knox is definitely flirting with her. And the more she gets to know him, the harder it is to resist…

Sawyer learned the hard way how short life can be. So when he sees Jo at the end of his bar, with her sassy smile and her mile-long legs, hell yes he flirts with her. He just didn’t mean to have a scorching-hot fling with her. Or to spend so much time with her after that.

He definitely didn’t mean to fall for her so fast or so hard.

Sawyer wants her. He wants it all. But Jo has to decide—can she risk her heart and go from fling to forever?

REVIEW: T HE RENEGADE is the fifth instalment and stand alone in Kimberly Kincaid’s contemporary, adult THE INTELLIGENCE UNIT erotic, romance series a spin off from the author’s Station Seventeen and Remington Medical series. This is bartender and former US Marine, twenty-six year old Sawyer Knox, and thirty-two year old, drama teacher/actress and single mother Jo Rossi’s story line. THE RENEGADE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Jo is Frankie’s sister THE GRIFTER #3.

NOTE: The Renegade book five was released (out of order) after book six THE SAINT.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Jo and Sawyer) THE RENEGADE follows the quick building romance and relationship between bartender and former US Marine, twenty-six year old Sawyer Knox, and thirty-two year old, drama teacher/actress and single mother Jo Rossi. Jo Rossi is an actress, and her surprise pregnancy six years earlier meant the acting jobs were few and far between. Now divorced, Jo has an audition in Remington, where she will meet former US Marine and bartender Sawyer Knox, a man who stirs something deep within our story line heroine. Sawyer is several years younger than Josephine ‘Jo’ Rossi but watching from the sidelines, struggling with the ongoing affects of injuries suffered on his last tour of duty, pushed Sawyer to reconsider his own future, going forward. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Sawyer and Jo, and the potential fall-out as Jo’s time in Remington comes to a close.

The relationship between Jo and Sawyer is one of immediate attraction but Jo struggles with their age difference and the possibility of a short-term affair. Sawyer Knox continues to do battle with issues of PTSD and the fall-out of a traumatic brain injury from an IED explosion that killed all of his friends and fellow teammates. Meeting Jo Rossi gave Sawyer hope for the future, hope that may be cut short with Jo’s prior commitments. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are energetic and familiar: Shawn and Frankie; Detective Isabella Walker, Detective Addison Hale, Detective Matteo Garza, Liam Hollister, Sawyer’s boss Kennedy, as well as Jo’s ex husband Derek, and their daughter Makayla.

THE RENEGADE is a quick read; a stand alone story of love and acceptance for two of the series secondary characters. The fast paced premise is captivating- the conflict is limited to personal choices and family commitments; the romance is seductive; the characters are fun and flirty.
