When the past isn’t really dead and buried…

After a lifetime of constant danger as an assassin, Ivy is finally safe to step out of the shadows. She’s even considering allowing a man into her life—a sexy former intelligence agent who makes her want more than she’s ever dared hope for. Except he doesn’t know the truth about her past—or what she’s done. She owes him and wants to wipe her slate clean once and for all. But when a past threat suddenly resurfaces, it puts countless lives at stake and threatens to destroy everything she’s built.

No one is safe.

Walker has zero regrets about leaving his intelligence career years ago to take care of his family, but a recent terrorist attack at home thrusts him back into the action. Now recent bombings in the UK all point to one of his former assets—who was supposed to be long dead. Once again he finds himself teamed up with Ivy, the unforgettable and mysterious operative he’s undeniably attracted to. She awakens something inside him he thought was gone forever. But as hot as the unexpected fire burns between them, he knows she’s holding something back. Something big. Even so, he has no choice except to trust her—because they’re running out of time to stop a madman bent on exacting vengeance. And this time, it’s personal.

REVIEW:FATAL FALLOUT is the seventh instalment in Kaylea Cross’ contemporary, adult CRIMSON POINT PROTECTORS romantic, suspense series- a spin off from the author’s Crimson Point Series. This is former CIA agent Tobias Walker, and assassin Ivy Johnson’s story line. FATAL FALLOUT is a cross over story line with the author’s VENGEANCE series, a series focusing on an elite, all-female group of trained assassins and specialists.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives FATAL FALLOUT follows in the wake of the return of a man long thought to be dead. Isaac Grey was believed to have died in a fire in Russia, with both Walker and Ivy believing they were responsible for the death. When a series of bombings and kidnappings link back to a dead man, Walker finds himself heading to the UK, in an effort to work with a woman he never met. Enter Ivy Johnson, one of the former Valkyrie assassins, and the woman with whom Walker will all in love. As the threats in the UK become a reality, the threats back in the US become personal for our story line hero. Working side by side is a struggle for Ivy, having issues of trust for as long as she can remember but when the truth about the past is revealed, Ivy hopes Walker will forgive her, for the sins of the past. What ensues is the building relationship between Ivy and Walker, and the potential fall-out as our couple are targeted, in a game of revenge.

Ivy Johnson has never known love until she met the sisters of the Valkyrie program. Having been hurt and left for dead in the past, Ivy battles between head and heart to reveal the entirety of her life to the man with whom she is falling in love. Walker is a man determined to take down Isaac Grey before he destroys everyone Walker loves but Grey is two steps ahead of those desperate to take him down, two steps that threaten the lives of everyone involved.

The relationship between Walker and Ivy is one of immediate attraction. Walker has heard about Ivy for close to a year but meeting Ivy gives Walker a hope for a second chance having already lost the first woman he loved. Working together brings Ivy and Walker up close and personal but a perceived betrayal pushes Walker out of Ivy’s life. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters include a cameo for all of Ivy’s Valkyrie sisters including the more intricate involvement of Kiyomi and her boyfriend Marcus; Crimson Point security specialist Donovan Myers, and Walker’s step daughter Shae. We are introduced to former SAS Agent Warwick James. The requisite evil is someone both Ivy and Walker had long thought dead. Warwick’s story line is next.

FATAL FALLOUT is a story of vengeance and power, desperation and determination, forgiveness and love. The fast paced premise is exciting and entertaining; the romance is seductive; the characters are strong-willed and dynamic.

•••••

REVIEW:BETTING ON A GOOD LUCK COWBOY is the second instalment in Sara Richardson’s contemporary, adult STAR VALLEY romance series. This is US Navy SEAL Silas Beck, and widow/single mother/rancher Tess Valdez’ story line. BETTING ON A GOOD LUCK COWBOY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Tess and Silas) BETTING ON A GOOD LUCK COWBOY follows in the aftermath of the death of Tess Valdez’ husband. Two years earlier, while serving with Afghanistan, Tess’ husband Jace, was killed on duty. HIs best friends and fellow SEALs, Tess’ brother Aiden, Silas and Thatch returned home to open their own construction business, in an effort to remain close to our story line heroine. Fast forward to present day, Silas and Tess act on their attraction but Tess wants to keep their relationship on the down low, and Silas’ refuses to be Tess’ dirty little secret. Meanwhile, someone has been shooting at a herd of wild horses, injuring one of the beauties in the process. With the hope of uncovering the person responsible, Tess makes it her mission to bring justice to the horses only to discover the guilty party maybe someone she knows. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Tess and Silas, and the potential fall-out when Silas believes he is not good enough, and re-enlists for another tour.

The relationship between Silas and Tess is one of mutual attraction but Silas struggles to date the widow of his former best friend. Tess wants nothing more than to move on with her life-her daughters love Silas, and Tess knows that Silas would be the perfect man to raise her family but Silas continues to struggle with the loss of his friend, and the guilt of falling in love with his best friend’s wife. The $ex scenes are all implied.

The colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters include Aiden and Kyra (Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy 1), Kyra’s best friend Lyric, Tess’ daughters Willow and Morgan; Brad Kline and his daughter Callie, as well as a number of other ranchers and townsfolk. There may be something developing between Lyric and Thatch.

BETTING ON A GOOD LUCK COWBOY is a story of loss and grief, acceptance and forgiveness, happiness and love. The premise is entertaining and emotional; the romance is subtle and passionate; the characters are struggling but determined.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 11, 2023

Everyone wants to make money off of insurance. In In$ured to the Hilt this includes a greedy claimant and her voluptuous daughter, an ambitious administrative assistant, a desperate insurance agent, and a man obsessed with maintaining his reputation. In the end, they are all “insured to the hilt,” some more literally than others.

•••••••

REVIEW:  IN$URED TO THE HILT is the first instalment in Charlotte Stuart’s contemporary, adult JOHN SMITH MYSTERIES, a cozy mystery series focusing on former private detective turned insurance investigator John Smith.

Told from first person perspective (John) IN$URED TO THE HILT follows John Smith as he is tasked with investigating a car accident claim in which the ‘victim’ alleges to have permanent injuries. As John’s investigation appears to take on a life of its’ own, the bodies begin to amass, and a number of ‘accidents’ place John in the direct line of fire. John’s investigation quickly spirals out of control when an accident claim turns to insurance fraud turns deadly, and the threats against John become personal and deadly.

We are introduced to police officer Sargeant Bruno McGinty, who appears to be a friend of the family; John’s mother and amateur sleuth Heloise Smith, as well as John’s boss Martin Van Droop, and receptionist Emma.

IN$URED TO THE HILT is a character driven story of greed and vengeance, deceit and murder. John Smith’s investigative techniques are questionable at best, his career as a private investigator should have prepared John for the consequences of crime and punishment, and getting involved without the protection of the police. IN$URED TO THE HILT is a lighthearted and spirited look at greed, murder and insurance fraud.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 7, 2023

A lethal plague sweeps the globe. Millions have died. Survivors are confined to their homes.

Gabriel passes his time in a small New York apartment on the city’s Upper West Side. During the plodding solitude of the lockdown, he observes several strangers in their nearby apartments. As he watches them struggle to survive a world at risk of extinction, he wonders about their lives—where they’re from, what they value, how they’re coping with a deadly contagion. All alone, he develops a vague yet important connection to these people, an affection for those who are struggling to survive isolation, fear and looming death.

Told in powerful, spellbinding free verse, Gabriel’s observations grow deeper and more elaborate as the endless days pass. But when he and a woman from across the street begin to watch each other from afar, his imagination begins to collide with the bleak reality of the times.

•••••

REVIEW:A PLAGUE OF MERCIES by Adam Pelzman follows designer/inventor Gabriel before, during and after a worldwide lockdown in the face of a pandemic, a contagion that is slowly tearing its’ inhabitants apart.

Told from free verse, third person objective perspective, through the eyes and thoughts of Gabriel, A PLAGUE OF MERCIES is a voyeur into the lives of several people during the height of ‘the plague’. From his New York apartment, Gabriel is witness to the small, self contained units in the apartment across the street. In the city of millions, behind the drapes of his apartment, Gabriel watches as the lives of seven people unravel and unfold during a crisis that has all but shut down the world. From the gay couple, physicians on the front line of the epidemic hoping to adopt a child,to Sophie, the young single woman of whom Gabriel watches her every move, to the socialite that struggles without the affirmations of her friends and popularity, and the elderly couple struggling with age and disease, Gabriel ‘spies’ and waits, narrating about the what ifs and whys, the who and how, personally connecting with each without every actually having met.

Think ‘REAR WINDOW’ ™, A PLAGUE OF MERCIES follows one man as he lives vicariously through the comings and goings of seven people he has never met. Death will take some, while others leave for short periods of time, all the while Gabriel thrives through the philosophical and imagined connections he makes without ever having left his New York apartment. The premise is an intricate yet timely and romanticized take on the imaginings of one man’s experiences during ‘the plague’.

A man just a few years older lives in a building across the street.

These two people live at the same elevation,

They can see into each other’s apartments.

Every night before the woman gets into bed

she puts on a threadbare gray shirt.

The shirt is long and sleeveless and extends down to her knees.

She turns off the ceiling light

and then turns on a nightlight near her bed.

The light casts an amber glow reminiscent of a campfire.

The man in the other apartment wonders if the nightlight

After she turns on the nightlight

she looks briefly through her window.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 31, 2023

Being the son of a legend isn’t easy.

And though sixteen-year-old CJ Caldwell idolizes his father, Outlaw, he’s not sure he’ll ever live up to the Caldwell reputation. Worse, he’s not sure he’ll be given the chance.

CJ is expected to finish high school and go to college before he will even be considered as a prospect for the Death Dwellers.

Meanwhile, Outlaw wants the option of a different life for his son. Whether or not the boy belongs to the MC, isn’t a requirement of his and Meggie’s love and support. As he tries to convince his boy to choose a different path in life, Outlaw is unaware of how far into the biker life CJ already is. When he takes his woman and their other kids on a vacation and leaves his beloved firstborn home because of football camp, the unimaginable happens that will forever change the Caldwell family.

There’s only one thing CJ wants more than his father’s approval, the only girl for him, Harley Banks. But when he asks her to go steady, she shoots him down cold, breaking his heart—and little does he know, breaking her own heart.

Now CJ is faced with becoming a man, coping with heartache, and trying to save his younger cousin Ryan from hanging out with the wrong crowd. A crowd who is targeting Harley. CJ is even more hurt that she didn’t trust him enough to ask for help—that hurt fueling the anger already building, skewing CJ’s decisions which go from good to stupid to downright dangerous. Then tragedy strikes, reducing one of the MC member’s houses to ashes, and destroying a trust that may never be restored.

Life altering mistakes will be made. Some will live, some will die. And the brutal, bloody reality of being a Death Dweller will spill onto another generation…

••••••

REVIEW: RECKLESS is the first instalment in Kathryn Kelly’s contemporary, adult DEATH DWELLERS MC: LEGACY dark, MC romance series-a spin off / next generation set in the author’s Death Dwellers MC world. RECKLESS introduces the next generation including CJ Caldwell (Christopher ‘Outlaw’ Caldwell’s son), his sister Rebel, brothers Ryder, Axel, Rule, and their adopted brother Diesel, as well as Val and Zoann’s sons Ryan and Willard, and Johnnie and Kendall’s kids Harley, Mattie, JJ and Rory; Mort and Bailey’s daughter Harley. You do not have to have read the original series but for back story and cohesion I recommend catching up on the DEATH DWELLERS MC.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise including graphic language and violence, there WILL be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from several third person perspectives, following two timelines, RECKLESS focuses on the volatile and unstable world of the Death Dwellers MC. As each generation begat the next, the sins of the father followed. Christopher ‘Outlaw’ Caldwell had hoped to raise his family without the fear of reprisal and history repeating itself but life in the MC often meant a life straddling the rules of morality and respect. As the next generation, all teens under the age of eighteen, step forward to claim a place for themselves, there is someone waiting to strike down and take control. At the heart of the story is a fight for power within the old guard, a generation who believes they deserve it all, and one young man who knows the time will come when he must step up and take control. All is not well- the family dynamics are fragile, abusive, authoritative and competitive; an MC princess pushes the line until she pushes too far.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, dangerous and questionable characters including all of the Death Dwellers MC series couples, and their extended families and children . The author includes a chart at the beginning of the story, otherwise a spreadsheet may be necessary to keep track of connections and relations.

RECKLESS is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, abuse and corruption, discrimination and rejection. The premise is detailed, complex, dark, gritty and raw; the next generation of characters are often immature, spoiled, self serving and impulsive; the old guard struggle with what is happening in their lives and the lives of their overly dramatic children. RECKLESS ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

Heed my warning, the language is graphic and strong.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 1, 2023

A secret admirer’s devotion turns deadly in a twisting novel of psychological suspense.

Mia Anderson is an invisible woman. An unremarkable thirty-two-year-old Tennessee librarian, she’s accustomed to disappearing in a crowd, unseen and unheard. Then she receives an anonymous note: You look beautiful today.

It doesn’t stop there. The attentive stranger—a secret admirer named Adam—has plans for Mia. With each new text comes a suggestion for her hair, clothes, or attitude, and for the first time in memory, Mia feels noticed. Slowly, she develops a confidence in herself she’s never had. But Adam has a surprise coming…and Mia finally sees him for who he is and what he’s prepared to do for her. Even kill.

Fearing she could be implicated in the murder, Mia’s forced to turn to the stranger in the shadows watching her every move. Adam’s game of cat and mouse begins with Mia as the prey. In order to survive, she must also become the predator.

••••••••

REVIEW:YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL TONIGHT by LR Jones (Lisa Renee Jones) is a contemporary, adult, stand alone thriller focusing on thirty-two year old Tennessee librarian Mia Anderson.

Told from first person perceptive (Mia) following two timelines, YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL TONIGHT focuses on Mia Anderson, and her best friend Jessica ‘Jess’ Pierce’s attempt to push our heroine out of her comfort zone to try something new. Mia is a librarian who believes herself to be ‘invisible’ to others, non-descript, plain-Jane type, stereotypical nerdy librarian whose prospects for a future with love limited at best. Mia’s best friend Jess Pierce is tasked with writing an article about dating apps, and signs up Mia for a chance at love. Mia is immediately taken with ‘Adam’, a businessman who is willing to help give Mia the push she needs to try something new but something isn’t quite right, and Mia begins to suspect that Adam isn’t the man he presents himself to be. As the bodies begin to amass, all in the name of defending our story line heroine, Mia knows there is only one man who may be able to help, a man who isn’t at work when she needs him the most but as the people in her life disappear or die, Mia struggles to separate herself from the online persona.

YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL is a murder-mystery, suspense thriller focusing on obsession and madness, delusion and determination. LR Jones pulls the reader into a fast paced story line that covers a few days in the life of our story line heroine. The premise is intriguing although the direction of the story, and the guilty parties were obvious and predictable; the characters are desperate and dogged- most of the secondary and supporting characters control every aspect of our heroine’s life. I had some concern about the immaturity of the characters, and the adolescent dialogue-not what I was expecting.

Hooking up with the college freshman I was supposed to keep an eye on was easier than tracking her.
Kidnapping her after that first night was easier than following her around campus.
I’m massive, scarred, and tattooed. I don’t exactly fit in with her crowd.
After the job was done, cutting her loose was the hard part.
Making it through the day without seeing her became impossible.
Some may call it stalking, but I call it vigilance.
She seems invested in this game of cat and mouse we’re playing, but she’s mistaken.

REVIEW:REDEMPTION REFUSED is the fifth instalment in Marie James’ contemporary, adult MISSION MERCENARIES dark, erotic, romance series. This is twenty-three year old, vigilante Elio ‘Donavan’ Lombardi, and nineteen year old, college student Alani Warren’s story line. REDEMPTION REFUSED can be read as a stand alone but for back story I recommend reading books three and four BRIDGES BURNED and DEPRAVITY DELIVERED. Alani is Ayla’s sister (Depravity Delivered): Donovan is the brother to Madelene (Bridges Burned) Some of the events of REEMPTION REFUSED cross over with, and run parallel to some of the events of book four DEPRAVITY DELIVERED.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the storyline premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers including r*pe, torture and abuse.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Donavan and Alani) REDEMPTION REFUSED follows in the wake of the abduction, abuse, trafficking and recovery of Alani’s sister Ayla. Ayla was trafficked to the Mexican Cartel, and forced to do unthinkable acts in an effort to protect her younger sister Alani. Alani has no sense of self-preservation, searching for danger at every turn in and around the campus at Lindell University, believing she is untouchable but Alani has been assigned a guardian in the guise of Donavan, a man who stirs something dangerous and dark in our story line heroine.

Donavan and Alani are questionable characters-they are both angry and volatile, dark and psychopathic in their anti-social behavior. Alani has poor to no behavioral control, often hurting those she should loves the most. On a downward spiral, Alani places herself in perilous situations with erratic behavior in an effort to make herself feel. Donavan witnessed the horrific death of the woman he loved, the loss of their child, and the murder of his sister, and has set about to destroy everyone involved. Babysitting Alani is the last thing he wanted to do but Alani’s unhealthy and treacherous life is quickly falling out of control, where she will be targeted by the Cartel that abducted her sister.

The relationship between Donavan and Alani is tempestuous, turbulent, aggressive and destructive. Alani is a walking siren, loving the attention no matter how bad but things go from bad to worse when she is unable to fight the shadows in the dark. Donavan doesn’t do relationships, doesn’t do love but something about Alani draws Donavan to the kindred spirit so much like himself. The $ex scenes are contentious, provocative and intense.

The secondary and supporting characters include Alani’s sister Ayla and her boyfriend Nash; several members of the Cerberus MC, all of the previous story line couples from Mission Mercenaries, as well as fellow university students, and members of the Cortez Cartel. The requisite evil has many faces. Nash and Ayla struggle with Donavan’s dark personality but it is his darkness that attracts our story line heroine.

REDEMPTION REFUSED is a dark, gritty, haunting and twisted story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, darkness and evil. The premise is tragic, edgy and raw; the characters are broken and questionable; the romance is unconventional, destructive but limited to aggressive $ex and foreplay.

Heed my warning-there are numerous triggers and questionable acts of vengeance that may not be suitable for more sensitive readers.

Looking for a Fake Fiancé
Have you ever wanted to prove someone wrong so badly that you could taste it?
It doesn’t matter if they’re right. The fact that they had the audacity to go there is what counts.
Hi. It’s me. I’m that person.
The man I’ve been casually seeing told me I’m not “wife material” and I should “lower my expectations.” Didn’t he realize I lowered them the moment I met him for dinner?
Obviously not.
Am I petty? Maybe. Annoyed? Of course. Determined? Definitely.
I need someone to help me flaunt my new engagement—my fiancé couldn’t wait to pop the question because I’m that amazing—in his face.
The problem? I don’t have a boyfriend, let alone a husband-to-be.
Which brings us to you.
Are you handsome? Successful? A smooth talker extraordinaire?
Are you willing to do all the things that someone madly in love would do?
Putting your hand on the small of my back. Forehead kissing. Acting like I’m a treasure you can’t live without. I need you to be prepared to do all those things … and maybe more.
What do you get out of this? I’m willing to negotiate terms—especially if they include a job and a place to stay. It’s a long story.
One night. One event. Let’s put on one heck of a show.

REVIEW:Flaunt is the next installment in the Carmichael series by Adriana Locke. For readers that haven’t read the series before, it is recommended to read the series in order. Flaunt can be read as a standalone, however, I am a firm believer that it benefits from the previous books. Flaunt is a contemporary romance without trigger warnings and an enemy to lovers’ story.

While reading the Carmichael series; Bank’s story was one that many readers (myself included) have been eager to read. His person was bound to be special, and special Sara is.

Banks is a bit like the class clown, funny and sweet, but a prankster that enjoys keeping the family on its toes. Honestly, he gave me golden retriever vibes for the majority of the book. When Sara is introduced to the story; let’s just say she isn’t in the best place in her life. Things are rapidly getting worse, with no end in sight; Sara is feeling backed in a corner. What should she do?

Banks doesn’t have the best first impression of Sara when they first meet. Sure, she’s attractive, but she is more orderly and quick to temper. Sara is never afraid to tell Banks just what she is thinking. When the 12th hour is near, and Sara finds herself in a bad spot, it is none other than Banks who steps in for the rescue. But does their new found relationship last after being put to the test?

I will say this until I can read no more, the Carmichael family is such a joy to read. Banks, Sara and the Carmichael clan are witty and funny, wrapped up in a crazing loving family. The spicy moments are passionate, and the characters memorable. ⅘ Stars!
