ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 24, 2023

‘Tis the season for a grumpy-sunshine romance with a side of murder and mayhem!

She hates Christmas and everything that goes with it…

Explosives expert Elliana hates Christmas—and the only good thing about this holiday season is that her gorgeous neighbor seems allergic to shirts and clothes in general. She knows because she’s been watching him for months with her drone. She’s never stalked anyone before, but he not only doesn’t seem to mind, he puts on nightly strip shows just for her. When she finally works up the courage to talk to him, she stumbles right into a murder—that he’s committed.

But this holiday is one she’ll never forget…

According to him, the whole murder thing is no big deal—the dead guy needed killing. And while her hot neighbor wants her, protecting her is his main priority. So when she’s targeted, this cinnamon roll hitman kidnaps her for her own good. With a deadly threat hunting them and a hot hitman who keeps handcuffing her to him “for her own protection”, Elliana is starting to reconsider her grinchy stance on the holidays. And when everything finally comes to a head, the results are bound to be…explosive.

••••••••

REVIEW: HOW THE HITMAN STOLE CHRISTMAS is the first novella in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult HOLIDAY WITH A HITMAN romantic suspense series. This is hitman/ assassin for hire Theo Contos, and US Marine explosives expert/business woman Elliana Reed’s story line.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspective (Theo and Elliana)HOW THE HITMAN STOLE CHRISTMAS focuses on the building relationship between our story line couple. For close to a year Elliana Reed has been stalking her neighbor Theo, a neighbor who is well aware of Elliana’s propensity for voyeurism but Elliana is about to come face to face with the reality of her neighbor’s job when he reveals a contract has been issued for our heroine’s death. Finding in herself a victim of an abduction by Theo, Elliana will quickly discover there is more to Theo than she could have ever imagined. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Elliana and Theo, and the potential fall-out as someone has placed a target on Elliana’s back, and Theo will call in reinforcements from the people he trusts the most.

Elliana despises Christmas, and her new neighbor has decided to decorate for our story line heroine but Theo has an ulterior motive, and getting close to Elliana means protecting the woman with whom he will fall in love.

The relationship between Theo and Elliana is slow to build. Elliana has been spying on her new neighbor for close to a year, learning nothing except his need to pose naked for her cameras. Theo Contos knows just about everything he needs to know about Elliana but when a new contract comes in to take down Elliana, Theo takes drastic measures to protect our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Elliana’s business partner Weston Davis, singer Rebel Martinez, as well as Theo’s interesting and professional parents Nestor and Lorna, his sister Aileen and niece Nessa. The requisite evil has several faces.

HOW THE HITMAN STOLE CHRISTMAS can only be described as a ‘reverse’ grumpy-sunshine, holiday, romantic suspense novella with a little big of fun and lively interactions. The fast paced premise is captivating and exciting; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic, charismatic and amusing.

But…with the introduction of several characters and couples, I did feel as though I was missing some information-that the secondary characters had already been established with backstories I missed.

Hell of an Angel by Christi Barth – a Review

Hell of an Angel by Christi Barth – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Bookbub

Description:
Raised in Hell. Living in Buffalo. And on the verge of accidentally destroying both realms…

Dark angel and actuary Evangeline Thayer hates taking unnecessary risks, but she knows becoming human will be worth it. All the creatures in Hell have bullied her about her negligible ‘power’ her whole life. And don’t get her started on why she has wings if she can’t even fly?!? She just needs a teensy bit of help with removing her power…which is where a very hot, very flirty, and absolutely infuriating Nephilim comes in.

Half-angel Gideon Durand has been fighting demons a long time, but he’s never heard of a dark angel. Least of all one this gorgeous, stubborn, and with the power to completely nullify evil. Maybe in Hell, that’s a weakness—but with an unknown evil on the loose and murdering Nephilim?—that’s a damned useful skill. So Gideon strikes a deal with Evangeline: he’ll scratch her wings…if she’ll scratch his.

Now good and evil are—temporarily—working together. And might even be having steamy fun…if it wasn’t for a rather inconvenient threat trying to unleash the apocalypse, once and for all.

Review:

Hell of an Angel by Christi Barth is the 2nd book in her Unlocking His Heart series. I did not read the first book, but it read very well as a standalone.  We meet Evangeline Thayer, when she meets three men who need help, as she is an actuary, who calculates risks for companies.  Evangeline lives in Buffalo, but was raised as a child in Hell, since she is a dark angel; she hated Hell as she was bullied, and eventually was able to escape and pretend to be human. She is also powerless, with only the ability to nullify those with evil powers, which she never uses, since she feels it is a curse; but Evangeline wants to live as a human, be safe and wants to remove the power she has.

Enter the three men, Gideon, Zaviar and Rhys, who want to hire Evangeline to help their business, which starts off on the wrong foot, when she overheard Gideon’s sarcastic comments. Little does she know that the three men are Nephilim warriors.  Later that night, Gideon is flying to check things out, and notices a girl on the ground and jumps down to save her.  Both are shocked, recognizing each other, and Eva was waiting for a ferry to take her to Hell to visit her aunt, and Gideon ruined it.  Gideon learns about Eva’s ability, and her being a dark angel; he tries to convince her to work with them. He explains that they are half angel, half human, and their job is to save humans from the dangerous demons.

Gideon, who is player, is slowly falling hard for the beautiful Eva, and he with his partners can’t understand why she wants to change to only being human; they feel she should learn about her true abilities.  Eva ends up staying in the safe place that all of them including, Maisey and Liss live in.  Together, Gideon, and his paranormal besties, teach Eva and the girls learn to defend themselves and be able to fight the demons escaping from hell.  The Nephilim discover that keepers of the gates, are being murdered and are determined to find out who is behind the killings.

With Eva and Gideon spending more time together, with him helping her find the things she will need to create a spell, and make her human. But Eva will agree to help the Nephilim’s stop the war between Heaven and Hell; even though they all feel she would be a great addition to their team.  I really did like Eva, and a bit later, started to like Gideon, who continued to fall in love with her; she was falling for him too, but worried that if she became human, there was no future. I loved when Eva got to meet Lucifer Morningstar, who is her grandfather, the Devil. She will learn more about her so-called missing powers. I do not want to give spoilers, and the last third of the book was very exciting, as I could not put the book down.

Hell of an Angel was a fun, action-packed story in a wonderful fantasy world filled with demons, angels, fallen angels, dark angels, Nephilim’s; with good and evil. I loved Gideon and Eva together, as in time they made a great couple. Hell of an Angel was so very well written by Christi Barth.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 19, 2023

No one could have prepared for the inferno that would ignite when they collided, least of all them.

Lucy

Seven years ago, I fled from a life where being a woman meant you were bound in shackles, and only dangerous and sadistic men held the keys.

I made a new life for myself and found the family I always needed in a group of outlaw bikers.

There’s only one problem—Jude Ashcroft. The man needles under my skin like no one else. When he goes low, I go to hell.

Until one night when my past catches up with me, and he saves me from the hell I barely escaped the first time.

But the trouble that found me that night was only the tip of the iceberg.

He doesn’t understand what or who he’s dealing with. He thinks he can protect me, but if I let him, true evil will come knocking, and it won’t come alone.

Jude

My life is simple, uncomplicated. The only things I care about are my brothers, my bike, and having no strings attaching me to any one woman. Everything is status quo, just how I like it.

Until Lucy. I’ve never met a woman more obstinate than the little demon. If cutting me down and showing me up were a sport, she’d have a gold medal in the pocket of those tight jeans.

She’s nothing I’ve ever wanted. Too mouthy, too opinionated, too… Lucy. Now I need to convince the part of me that craves a challenge, craves her fire.

She’s hiding something, though. I don’t know what, and I don’t know why. The only thing I do know is it’s going to bring trouble like we’ve never seen to my club.

But I’ll show her exactly what happens when someone tries to take what’s mine, because whether she likes it or not, that’s precisely what she is.

•••••

REVIEW:Jude by Kate Randall is book 2 in the Black Roses MC series. As always, I recommend reading a series in order, but it can be read as a standalone if the reader chooses. This is a motorcycle romance, and Readers should expect what comes with that, but it also has a new twist to it as well.

Jude and Lucy are a great, funny read that many readers will enjoy. Lucy is an independent woman, but has a past that she is trying to still deal with, Jude of course is an alpha male and overly protective. The banter between these two is funnier than most I have read, as the plot starts to unfold, and the characters to develop more, we get to slowly seeing more and more of their relationship.

I feel for Lucy, after all that she has been through, and making her new life better than the one she broke from. Kate Randall, is a newer author to me, but I can safely say that her books are definitely going to become a must read. The book ends on a slight cliffhanger, but don’t worry, Readers, Jude, and Lucy get their happily ever after. Who the next book is, only the author knows… But we all know who we want to be….

How can he make her see he isn’t going anywhere?
When Hayley and her daughter’s lives look to be in jeopardy, Wrath will do everything to ensure they stay safe.

Will Wrath and Hayley get their happy ever after, or will they end before they’ve even truly begun?

•••••

REVIEW: WRATH is the seventh instalment in Brooke Summers’ contemporary, adult FURY VIPERS MC dark, erotic, MC romance series. This is Judd ‘Wrath’ Langan, and Hayley’s story line. WRATH can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order, or at the very least book five PYRO-Pyro aka James is Hayley’s brother. The events of WRATH cross over with, and run parallel to books five and six PYRO and SHADOW

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Wrath and Hayley) WRATH covers approximately five and half years in the life of our story line couple. At sixteen years old Hayley gave birth to her daughter Eva. Two years later, Hayley’s brother Pyro would take our heroine under his wing, where she would meet and fall in love with Fury Vipers MC member Judd ‘Wrath’ Langan but Pyro made it clear his sister was off limits so Pyro and Hayley kept their affair secret for close to five years. As Wrath and Hayley settled into a form of domesticated life, the past would return, demanding everything and more. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Wrath and Hayley, and the potential fall out as Wrath and Hayley’s time in America comes to a close.

The world building covers five and half years where we will discover the abuse and assaults against our story line heroine. Pyro and Hayley grew up in the foster care system, a system that failed the grieving brother and sister. As Pyro begins his life anew in Ireland, Hayley must deal with the fall-out of the past she never forgot.

The relationship between Hayley and Wrath is one of immediate attraction but Pyro has declared his sister-hands off. Wrath has kept our heroine close, falling for the woman who has stolen his heart but misunderstanding threatens their future going forward. When the past returns, Wrath must take steps to ensure his small family is safe but in doing so, our couple and Eva must leave their family behind. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, dynamic and familiar secondary and supporting characters including many of the previous story line couples. We are reintroduced to Hayley’s brother Pyro aka James, as well as Shadow, Raptor, Preacher, Ace and Eda, and Hayley’s daughter Eva. Here’s hoping the author has plans for Ireland’s Devil’s Falcons MC.

WRATH is a story of betrayal and vengeance, family and exploitation, power and control, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is dark, gritty, and emotional; the romance is provocative and edgy; the characters are desperate, resolute and strong.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 19, 2023

He told me he loved me, then abandoned me.

My sister was his first choice. Too bad for him, I refused to be his second.

Dante Leone was bad news with a gorgeous exterior and a dangerous mind. Emotionally unavailable and slightly unhinged, he was a heartbreak waiting to happen. Again.

I ran. He gave chase and my fate was sealed.

Roaming the world, I searched for a vital part of me. There’d be no new beginning until I found my answers. My taste of freedom was sweet, yet lonely. And oh, so fleeting.

I should have known he would catch up to me. After all, he thrived on the chase. I’d learned that the hard way.

But guess what?

I was no longer the woman he seduced all those years ago. I no longer believed the pretty lies that passed his lips nor the false promises in his deceitful eyes.

My name is Phoenix Romero, and I’d make the rules this time around.

Like my namesake, I had risen from the ashes and this time, I would be the one to make him burn.

•••••

REVIEW: THORNS OF SILENCE is the fourth book in Eva Winner’s contemporary, adult THORNS OF OMERTA dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is Phoenix Romero, and Dante Leone’s story line. THORNS OF SILENCE runs parallel to, and crosses over with the events of THE STOLEN EMPIRE trilogy that focuses on Dante’s brother Amon, and Phoenix’s sister Reina.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Phoenix and Dante) using present day and memories from the past, THORNS OF SILENCE follows the rekindling but tempestuous relationship between our story line couple. Five years earlier Dante and Phoenix’s lives spiralled out of control, and in the ensuing years, Phoenix never forgave the man who destroyed her heart but the truth is stranger than Phoenix could have ever imagined when she discovers that Dante is no longer the man with whom she had fallen in love. As Dante continues to pursue our story line heroine, memories from the past begin to reveal a Romeo and Juliet tale of dysfunctional family values. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between our story line couple, and the potential fall-out when secrets reveal a dark and dangerous past for Dante and Phoenix.

The world building crosses over with the Stolen Trilogy in which we are up close and personal with Amon and Reina but Amon is unaware of the true nature of everything Dante lost, including the woman that once called to his heart. Phoenix continues to struggle with the anger she feels towards Dante Romero but Dante never expected to face the end, and loss the woman he loves, a second time. Three more years will pass before the truth is finally revealed.

The relationship between Dante and Phoenix is one of second chances but Phoenix is unable to let go of the past, a past that was taken without her consent. Dante is unaware of what happened or why, and in this, the slow reveal of his memories bring with it heart break and loss. The $ex scenes intimate and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and controversial secondary and supporting characters many of whom we have met in previous instalments and The Stolen Empire Trilogy: Dante’s brother Amon and his girlfriend/wife Reina; Dante’s right hand man Cesar; Reina and Phoenix’s father and grandmother Diana Bergman; Reina and Phoenix’s friend Isla and Raven; as well as Illias Konstantin (Thorns of Lust/Thorns of Love): Enrico Marchetti (Thorns of Death), and several members of the Russian Bratva, Greek Mafia, Japanese Yakuza, and Cartel.

THORNS OF SILENCE is a story of devastating betrayal and vengeance; secrets and lies; power and control, dysfunctional family dynamics, forgiveness, acceptance, loss and love . The premise is emotional, heart breaking and intriguing; the romance is limited as our couple spend most of the story line separate, fighting or at odds; the characters are broken, desperate and charismatic.

The Scoundrel of Drury Lane by Lauren Smith – a Review

The Scoundrel of Drury Lane by Lauren Smith – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM

Description
He was falsely accused and sentenced to die…

At nineteen, Christopher “Kit” Hollingsworth is spared the noose but sentenced to serve seven years in Australia as a convict. The men who betrayed him have plans to make sure he never returns to England. But Kit’s strong will and thirst for vengeance ensure his survival.

Seven long years later, he returns to London but he’s forever changed. Gone is the innocent, handsome young lad he’d been. Now Kit is a towering, muscular man of twenty-six with scars inside and out. He wants England to see the new him, the man who lost his soul, and he wants the three men who destroyed his life to forfeit theirs. The only light in his dark night is a beautiful, innocent young woman who paints the sets at the Drury Lane theater.

There’s just one problem…she’s the daughter of one of the men who sent him to prison.

Review

The Scoundrel of Drury Lane by Lauren Smith is a Regency romance. I do love a period romance, and I absolutely love this author. So when a new book appears it’s an instant read for me.

It’s the seventh book in this series. It’s also a spinoff for a new series “The Rogues of Devil’s square.” So technically it’s book one ? it stands in its own, so no need to read the previous books. And as the other books are by different authors I’m assuming the author tends to take this book and turn it into a new series ?

Kit was sent to Australia as a convict! Why? Well I’d tell you, but it would spoil the book, so you’ll have to find out for yourself ?

He plans to hunt and take his revenge on the men that sent him to hell. They never expected him to return. But he did, and Kit is going to make them pay with the help of his friends (which sets up the next couple of books ?) his first task is to locate the men that betrayed him, and his friends are already on the task. Feeding him information gives Kit the feeling that his friends hadn’t forgotten him, and were going to exact revenge on his behalf. He is upset and angry that his first target has died! But finds out he had a daughter, Kit plans to make the woman give him the money stolen from him, and sets about making plans…..

It does remind me a little of the Count of Monte Cristo books.

Suzannah isn’t your usual young lady, rich parents?  (in the past they were rather well off, now? Not so much) She’s use to getting her haves dirty and mucking in to help out. She’s also first to help someone out.

Meeting Suzannah throws Kit into a conundrum! He’s smitten with the young woman, and can’t work out why she’s living a frugal life! She should be living in splendour, but no matter, he wants answers and his money! Suzannah is rather perplexed! This man claims her father stole his life and money!!

The romance is the usual slow burn, but after reading so many instant love/lust books, it’s nice to read a buildup ? then we have the betrayal!! ? will Kit be able to look past at the turn of events with Suzannah? Or will his past dictate his future, and ruin the best thing that has ever happens to him?

The supporting characters were great, loved how Kit’s friends were still loyal and working in the background to find evidence of his innocence.

Another highly recommended read for anyone who loves a historical story with a little mystery thrown in for good measure.

REVIEW:FRACTURED HEARTS-PROSPECT is the seventh instalment in DM Earl’s contemporary, adult GRIMM WOLVES MC dark, erotic, MC romance series, a part of the GRIMM WOLVES MC. This is MC prospect Frank aka Dingo, and Celestine De Luca aka Celee’s story line. FRACTURED HEARTS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory. FRACTURED HEARTS-PROSPECT crosses over with the author’s Devil’s Handmaidens MC series.Celestine is Zoey ‘Shadow’ Jeffries’ cousin.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise including graphic violence, there WILL BE triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from several first person perspectives including Dingo and Celee FRACTURED HEARTS follows in the aftermath of the rescue of our story line heroine. Celestine De Luca is on the run, and Dingo has been sent to bring our heroine home. The Grimm Wolves MC is caught between a war with the De Lucas and the Thunder Club Knuckle Brother white supremacist group, and our heroine has been targeted for who she is, and what she knows. What ensues is the building relationship between Celee and Dingo, and the potential fall-out as a plan put into motion threatens the safety of everyone involved.

The world building continues to focus on the members of the club. We are up close and personal with several previous story line couples including the impending birth of Brick and Emmie’s triplets, and Chains relationship with Winnie and Jackson.

The relationship between Dingo and Celee begins as a cross country trip, one in which Dingo and Celee grow closer together but Celee’s past is quickly catching up, and our couple find themselves on the defensive throughout their journey Back with the Grimm Wolves MC, Celee and Dingo’s relationship continues to grow but lies of omission threaten any future for our story line couple. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and edgy characters including the members of the Grimm Wolves MC, and the Devil’s Handmaidens MC.The return of Shadow aka Zoey reveals a close family connection that may turn into something more.

FRACTURED HEARTS is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, family and abuse, murder and violence, acceptance and forgiveness. The fast paced premise is dark, gritty, dramatic and intense-the violence may be too disturbing for more sensitive readers; the romance is magnetic; the characters are desperate and dynamic.

Then he meets Addie—the light to his darkness, the daughter of the man who created him. Addie is the only one who understands Creed, the only one who makes him feel more man than monster.

But there is war in the air between Creed, his fellow windwalkers, and Addie’s father. Creed will not allow himself, or the others like him, to live as pawns and weapons.

Now Addie must choose a side.
Her father or the man she loves.

•••••

REVIEW: HE IS …CREED Part 1 is the first instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult WINDWALKERS sci-fi, romance series focusing on supersoldier Creed, and scientist Dr. Addie Lawrence.

NOTE: HE IS ..CREED is the re-release and reimagined story first introduced as Michael/ The Legend of Michael (Zodius Series) but has been completely rewritten with new content, characters, names and premise.

Told from several first person perspectives including Creed and Addie HE IS …CREED follows Dr. Addie Lawrence as she struggles with a government experiment, using alien DNA to create an army of super soldiers, DNA injected without the soldiers’ permission. In the wake of her mother’s death from an automobile accident, Addie begins working at Area 51, continuing the work of her late mother, only to discover that her father General Lawrence, has been keeping secrets, and Addie’s life may be in danger. Enter super soldier Creed, the man with whom Addie will fall in love. What ensues is the building and fated relationship between Creed and Addie, and the potential fall-out as a super soldier with even more superior DNA threatens to take over the world.

The world building introduces some of the background surrounding the discover of the alien DNA, and the soldiers who have been injected. As the experiment continues to grow, some of the soldiers will find love, their fated mates, something the US government and army refuses to accept. The premise is a familiar story but entertaining and interesting, none the less.

The relationship between Creed and Addie is one of immediate attraction. Our couple are drawn towards one another, and the frequency of their interactions is increasing the likelihood of a fated coupling but all is not well; Creed has other plans, and pushes away the woman that calls to his heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and powerful secondary and supporting characters including fellow scientists Ava and Katie; super soldiers Caleb and Julian, as well as Addie’s father General Lawrence. Everyone has an ulterior motive, and no one is safe when the soldiers take control.

HE IS …CREED Part 1 introduces some of the background and build up of a powerful army made up of super soldiers, soldiers created to be used and controlled but there is enough human DNA mixed with the alien DNA that proves power comes from all sources, and the combination may threaten the world. The fast paced premise is intriguing and compelling; the romance is provocative and fated; the characters are powerful and determined. HE IS …CREED Part 1 ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
