Description:
Frankie Elkin is an expert at finding the missing persons that the rest of the world has forgotten, but even she couldn’t have anticipated this latest request—to locate the long-lost sister of a female serial killer facing execution in three weeks’ time.

She has called herself “death,” but people called her the devil.

The case was sensational. Kaylee Pierson had confessed from the very beginning, waived all appeals. Despite the media’s chronicling of her tragic circumstances—the childhood spent with a violent father—no one could find sympathy for “the Beautiful Butcher” who had led eighteen men home from bars before viciously slitting their throats. Now, with only twenty-one days left to live, Pierson has finally received a lead on the whereabouts of the sister who was kidnapped over a decade ago, and she needs Frankie’s help to find her. The Beautiful Butcher’s offer:

When was the last time your search ended with finding the living?

Unable to resist the chance for a rescue, Frankie takes on Pierson’s request. Twelve years ago, five-year-old Leilani went missing in Hawaii. The main suspect? Pierson’s tech mogul ex-boyfriend, Sanders MacManus. Now, on a remote island in the middle of the Pacific—the site of MacManus’s latest vanity project—fresh evidence has appeared. In order to learn the truth and possibly save a young woman’s life, Frankie must go undercover at the isolated base camp. Her challenge: A dozen strangers. Countless dangerous secrets. Zero means of calling for help. And then the storm rolls in…

Review:

Still See You Everywhere by Lisa Gardner is the 3rd book in her Frankie Elkin series. I have read a number of books by Gardner, and I think she is one of the best authors who write suspense thrillers, as I have loved all her books. Frankie Elkin, our heroine, is the star of this series; she is a recovering alcoholic, who is an expert in find missing people that are cold cases. Over the years she has found 15 people, with the majority not found alive.

The prologue has Frankie visiting a prison, where a serial killer (The Beautiful Butcher) is on death row, having viciously killed eighteen men; with her execution scheduled in three weeks. Kaylee receives a letter from her long-lost sister, who disappeared many years ago.  She believes her sister (Lea) was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend, and she wants Frankie to find her and help her escape.  She convinces Frankie to take the job, which is in a remote lodge on a Hawaiian Island owned by the ex-boyfriend.

Frankie flies to the private island, and poses as a staff member, helping with cooking and cleaning rooms; she gets to know many of the staff, as she learns more about MacManus and his protégé, Lea. I really liked many of the staff members, especially the cooks Ann and Trudy; and slowly becomes closer to all of them (Vaughn, Ronin, Charlie, etc.). Frankie needs to know who she can trust, especially with MacManus arriving with his security team, and Lea.  She begins to suspect there is someone who is possibly sabotaging the resort.

When Frankie meets Lea, she tries to question her, but finds her not fully cooperative, claiming she knows nothing about a letter to her sister, whom she has not seen in 12 years. Frankie then discovers that Kaylee has escaped from death row, which is why MacManus has added extra security.  They all suspect that Kaylee will be coming for them; and Frankie begins to suspect that Lea is also very much involved.

What follows is an amazing, action-packed and exciting thriller, where Frankie finds herself in a number of dangerous situations. The last half of the book was an extremely tense thriller that kept me glued to my kindle.  Especially in the last quarter of the book, with the tension escalating as everyone was fighting for survival. Still See You Everywhere is a gripping fast pace story that is filled with danger, drama, fear, and everyone’s lives on the line. As we get closer to the end, there are a number of surprises and twists.

Once again, Lisa Gardner gives us a fabulous intense exciting story, that was very well written. As noted previously, you can never go wrong reading Lisa Gardner, who always writes fantastic suspense psychological thrillers.  I suggest you read Still See You Everywhere, which was a fantastic story.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 11, 2024

I shouldn’t be alive.

I should’ve died in that plane crash.

Instead, I survived.
Thrived, even.
After all, I’m a rock star and a billionaire.
There’s nothing I can’t buy.

Nothing, except peace.

And when it all comes crashing down around me…
The guilt.
The pain.
The sorrow.
That’s when she appears.

The one woman I’m not allowed to love.
I needed her to fill the void after everything was lost.
There she was, ready, and grieving too.
Both of us are broken, shattered people.
So why does she make my heart want to beat again?
I need a new reason to keep breathing.
And I think that reason—is her.

REVIEW:Famous Last Words are emotions. Every emotion is raw and real, Ms. Author has a way of drawing them out with her stories, and this one is even more true. FLW is a second chance love story, filled with love, loss, drama, family and second chances. This book was so hard to put down that I finished it in one sitting.

Seraphina “Sephie” and Brahms story starts when they are children and stretches to adulthood where they find each other again. When tragedy strikes them early in life, they are torn apart, misunderstandings and family drama causing more and more issues between the two of them. Much of their early story involves Sephie’s family and a horrible plane crash, and Brahms’ involvement in it. There is so much suspense in this as the storyline chances between the present and the past memories of the two main leads.

Now; seven years later, Brahms’ life is at a tipping point. He gets into a bad accident and his brother reaches out to Sephie for help. She is a highly skilled physical therapist, and one of the only people that can get through the thick skull of Brahm. Brahm however is more than just messed up from his accident, he is also messed up in booze and drugs. He is truly living up to the out of control music man.

The plot continues quickly, characters are reunited, Brahm finds his truth, and long ago secrets are revealed. Most importantly, both Sephie and Brahm are finally able to heal their relationship and move on with their lives. There is a pretty big plot twist that I didn’t see coming, but wow, just amazing! The ending and epilogue to Famous Last Words had me in absolute tears, this book was so emotionally freeing and the book hangover I currently have is so real! I really applaud Ms. Author for the amazing work she has shared with the world with FLW.

A Grave Robbery by Deanna Raybourn – a Review

Description:
Lord Rosemorran has purchased a wax figure of a beautiful reclining woman and asks Stoker to incorporate a clockwork mechanism to give the Rosemorran Collection its own Sleeping Beauty in the style of Madame Tussaud’s. But when Stoker goes to cut the mannequin open to insert the mechanism, he makes a gruesome discovery: this is no wax figure. The mannequin is the beautifully preserved body of a young woman who was once very much alive. But who would do such a dreadful thing, and why?

Sleuthing out the answer to this question sets Veronica and Stoker on their wildest adventure yet. From the underground laboratories of scientists experimenting with electricity to resurrect the dead in the vein of Frankenstein to the traveling show where Stoker once toured as an attraction, the gaslit atmosphere of London in October is the perfect setting for this investigation into the unknown. Through it all, the intrepid pair is always one step behind the latest villain—a man who has killed once and will stop at nothing to recover the body of the woman he loved. Will they unmask him in time to save his next victim? Or will they become the latest figures to be immortalized in his collection of horrors?

Review:

A Grave Robbery by Deanna Raybourn is the 9th book in her Veronica Speedwell Mystery series. We get to see Veronica and Stoker at the start, as they both worked for Lord Rosemorran’s helping restore his many collections for future display.  It was nice to see both Veronica and Stoker settling into their affectionate relationship, as they are both clever, witty and always challenging each other.  Veronica Speedwell is a lepidopterist, a woman who is ahead of her time, and Stoker is a scientist and adventurer. They make a terrific team.

Lord Rosemorran lets them know that he has acquired a new purchase, which would be a birthday present for his young daughter; it was a wax figure of Sleeping Beauty, similar to Madame Tussaud’s. He wanted Stoker to add a mechanism to make the figure look alive.  When Stoker goes to cut the mannequin open, to his shock he discovers it was not wax, but a preserved young lady.  Unable to let this go unpunished, both Veronica and Stoker set out to solve this crime. They try to learn how long this body was deceased, and they call their friends, JJ (journalist) and Mornaday (detective) to help search the newspaper and police archives for missing young ladies.

Veronica and Stoker follow a trail that led them first to a circus, to get some answers, but JJ was able to find a girl who drowned 15 years ago, which will lead them to Plumfield’s mortuary to track down who the girl was.  The new Plumfield owner was able to find some papers, and he will be one of the new characters that help Victoria and Stoker; as well as Spyridon, who helped Stoker hide the body.  They were all very good characters, and fun.

What follows is wild adventure that will eventually lead them to a dangerous killer. The mystery was very compelling, as well as a number of twists as we reach the climax.  Veronica and Stoker, as well as JJ and Mornaday will plan a trap to catch the true killer, putting some of them in danger. I really enjoyed both Veronica and Stoker, as they were lots of fun, and romantic. A Grave Robbery was very well written by Deanna Raybourn.

He’s been supplementing his hours with covert rescue missions organized by the FBI. But his latest charge may be more than he bargained for.

Marlowe Kennedy is on a routine archaeology dig in Thailand when she’s arrested for drug trafficking. She has suspicions about the true culprit, but even when she’s rescued from prison, there’s nothing she can do about it without proof. Her protective bodyguard’s only objective is to keep her safe until they cross the border into friendly territory.

The best way to do that? Travel as man and wife.

After returning to Maine, as Bob and Marlowe navigate this treacherous terrain with the help of their friends, they face vengeful authorities, a vindictive frame job, and perhaps most important of all—turning their fake marriage into something real

••••

REVIEWTHE HERO is the third instalment in Susan Stoker’s contemporary, adult GAME OF CHANCE erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on a group of former US Special Forces soldiers (Callum ‘Cal’ Redman, Kendrick ‘Bob’ Evans, Jackson ‘JJ’ Justice, Riggs ‘Chappy’ Chapman) who own and operate a tree service, search and rescue, Appalachian Trail maintenance company called Jack’s Lumber. This is thirty-five year olds, Kendric ‘Bob’ Evans, and archaeologist Marlowe Kennedy’s story line. THE HERO can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. An important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Kendrick and Marlowe) THE HERO follows the rescue of our story line heroine from a Thai prison. While on an archaeological assignment in Thailand, Marlowe Kennedy would find herself framed and imprisoned for drug possession and trafficking. Without benefit of defense or help, Marlowe has given up hope until a visit from an American stranger telling her to be prepared. Enter former US Special Forces soldier Kendrick Evans, and the man with whom Marlowe will fall in love. Upon her explosive rescue, Marlowe and Kendrick find themselves on a cross continent run, wherein Marlowe will become the woman to save our hero’s life. What ensues is the quick and forced relationship between Marlowe and Kendrick, and the potential fall-out as their journey and struggles through Asia, continue back home.

The world building focuses on the betrayal of our story line heroine. Framed for a crime she did not commit, Kendrick Evans is ‘hired’ to rescue the woman with whom he would fall in love but their escape gets more dangerous, the closer to their final destination.

The relationship between Kendrick and Marlowe begins as a rescue but a potential safe haven finds our couple forced into a marriage to protect their lives. On the run now as a married couple, they will quickly discover their mutual attraction adds a further hurdle as Kendrick battles not only the elements but a fight to survive. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and impassioned secondary and supporting characters including Kendrick’s friends and former teammates, most of whom we have met in the previous instalments. April and JJ’s story line is next.

THE HERO is a story of betrayal and vengeance, greed and retribution, friendships and relationships, acceptance and love. The suspense filled premise is intriguing and captivating but I struggled a little bit with the sting operation meant to reveal the truth, an operation that left our heroine vulnerable. The characters are determined and dynamic; the romance is seductive .

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 28, 2024

All I wanted was one taste, but one taste is all it took.

Razor

I finally found a home to call my own as a VP for the Reapers Rejects MC’s Mexican charter. It’s the first place I’ve spent an extended period of time at since I was in my early twenties.

But, I still get cabin fever. It’s why my Prez sends me out on runs to the States numerous times a year.

I usually make a pit stop at our Vegas charter, but this time I had business in LA. Where better to stay than one of the club’s allies—the Satan’s Raiders MC.

It was a surprise running into Oakleigh again, but it was even more surprising when I saw her dancing on a pole at a local strip club.

I should have gotten up and walked out, knowing damn well I shouldn’t have stayed. I debated it as she sashayed over to me and offered me a lap dance. I could have said no, but I didn’t, and that ‘yes’ started it all.

She was barely nineteen and the club would hang me if they knew.

Then again, the best fruit is always forbidden.

REVIEW: RAZOR is the nineteenth instalment in Elizabeth Knox’s contemporary, adult REAPER’S REJECTS erotic, MC romance series. This is nomad turned VP for the Reapers Rejects MC’s Mexican charter Ricardo Alejandro ‘Razor’ Ramirez, and Oakleigh Michelle Mahon’s story line. RAZOR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Oakleigh is the daughter of Hammer #18. RAZOR crosses over with some of the events and characters of the author’s SATAN’S RAIDERS MC series.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers. If you have not read any of the previous instalments, there may be spoilers in my review.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Razor and Oakleigh) RAZOR follows the visit of Razor Ramirez to the Satan’s Raiders MC, a visit that will culminate with Oakleigh Mahon’s acceptance of our story line hero. Oakleigh Mahon has been struggling in the months since an attack against the Satan’s Raiders MC left our heroine fighting for her life. In an effort to become independent without the help of the MC, and to hide a life she was hoping to forget, Oakleigh finds herself dancing for money, and masking the pain with illegal drugs. Enter Razor Ramirez, the man with whom Oakleigh will fall in love. Razor knows his time in Vegas is coming to a close, and in an effort to save the life of the woman that has capture his heart, Razor makes Oakleigh an offer she does not refuse. What ensues is the building relationship in Mexico between Razor and Oakleigh, and the potential fall-out as Oakleigh’s father refuses to accept Razor in his daughter’s life.

The world building focuses on recovery and acceptance, addiction and acceptance. Scared to tell her father about her move to Mexico or her downward spiral, Oakleigh takes off with Razor, and finds herself a place to call home.

The relationship between Oakleigh and Razor begins as friendship that will quickly turn into something more. Razor is desperate to protect Oakleigh from the demons that have taken hold, and Oakleigh wants something more than to be wounded victim of a vendetta attack. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate .

There is a large ensemble cast of coloful, energetic and dynamic secondary and supporting characters from both the Reaper’s Rejects MC and Satan’s Raiders MC including Oakleigh’s father Hammer, his wife Shiloh, and Oakleigh’s aunt Jada; Python, Reaper’s Rejects MC president Amara and her husband Dante, as well as the introduction of several new prospects. Python’s story line is next

RAZOR is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and anger, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is dramatic and intense; the romance is provocative; the characters are determined and charismatic.

ABOUT THE BOOK: March 8, 2024

Romeo. Boy Toy. Player. I’ve heard what they call me, and never gave it much thought.
Then Zoe walks in with her library smarts and innocent eyes and one helluva dirty idea.
I guess living in hospitals for two decades didn’t leave much time for dating.
Or any kind of fun, really.
Zoe’s a virgin with a bucket list, and guess who’s on it?
No way am I satisfying her desires.
She’s my boss’s little sister-in-law, and besides.
I’m maxed out with my sick dad and a secret I’m not ready to share.
I’ll help with the unsexy things on Zoe’s list.
Problem is, everything from a foul-mouthed pinball machine to my dopey dog keep conspiring to push us together.
Even cooking class and an oddly sexy oil change lead straight to temptation.
Girls like Zoe don’t end up with guys like me.
It’s basic math even this high school dropout can do.
So how come I can’t stay away?

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 7, 2024

Always protect the heart of the ice.

Max

This wasn’t supposed to happen to me. I’m supposed to be at the top of my career. Untouchable. Worshiped. Finally proving to all the jerks in my life that I made it. I’m at the top.

Then a video that shouldn’t exist leaks and everything comes crashing down. I’m about to lose it all and I can’t seem to get out of my own way. My agent banishes me to a place that technology can’t touch while he tries to salvage my career.

I’m caught between rage and deep depression, lashing out at everyone and everything around me. I have myself to blame but right now, all I want is to drown in my misery. Even when something unexpected and good comes along, all I can do is push and push until I’m once more drowning all alone.

Deryke

I don’t know what’s come over me. Why does this disaster of a hockey player suddenly call to my heart and everything inside my body and mind? I mean, the world knows what’s in his pants and I’ve never been even slightly turned on by that! Why now? Why him?

Even when he’s bratting so hard I want to break him, I can see that he acts the way he does because he’s hurting somewhere deep inside. He won’t let me in, but for some unknown reason, I can’t let Maximus Latham go.

He needs me. He needs someone to believe in him and not disappear the minute he messes up. He needs someone to love him for him, not for being the hockey god he is. Except I’m not sure I can reach him in time before he self-destructs.

But damned if I’m not going to try.

••••

REVIEW: I’m hoping this series goes on forever. Another story smashed off the ice and into the back of the net ? this authors ice hockey/mm romance series has to be one of my all time favourites.

The characters are so 3 dimensional that I tend to forget they aren’t real. That the text messages that send to one another aren’t on my phone!! The books in this series hold not only a place in my heart, but also a place in my head.

This book focuses on the bad boy, the player, the trouble maker and his name is Maximus Latham (Max to friends)

He’s popped up in a few books (but you don’t have to read them to understand his character,) and in all of them he’s acted up, played the fool and will do anything for attention! But this time it backfires spectacularly and Max is facing the horrifying threat of losing the only thing he’s good at ice hockey!

Taking himself off to a remote island sounds like a good idea, but Max suffers a boat load of self doubt and insecurities, and begins to withdraw from his surroundings and in fact life itself!

It’s so sad reading how he slowly stops caring, how the voices in his head batter him about, until he’s just a husk, a shell of the man he once was….

Deryke is on the same island as Max, but for different reasons. He comes to the island to visit friends and recharge before the start of the season (yes, Deryke is a hockey player too) ? Seeing Max in the bar on the island has Deryke approach him to say hi. They aren’t on the same team but they do recognise each other enough to say hello. But Deryke gets no response!

I love the whole idea of someone out there just for you. And although Deryke isn’t gay, and Max is bi (although probably prefers men to be honest) they just click. Deryke doesn’t really question why he’s attracted to Max, he just knows he is suppose to be there to care and support Max ?

And so starts the whole story of Deryke bringing Max back to life. Showing him that he is worth the time and effort. Max’s backstory is a sad one, it certainly contributes to his mental health and the way he sees himself….

This book is about redemption, recognition and caring for someone enough to put your own life on hold…..But with the start of the hockey season, and Max still hasn’t heard from his manager or coach and Deryke is heading back to the mainland to start training how will Max cope on his own? Deryke is his lifeline!!

I liked how we get to see previous characters from previous books in this series. I liked how Deryke dealt with Max ? and I just wanted to wrap Max up and deal with all of his heartache.

Another highly recommended read from me.
