Transhumanism: The quest to transcend human limitations through cutting-edge technologies.

Who wants to live forever?

FBI Special Agent Zack Wilder, a man with a dark past and a dangerous secret, is about to find out.

When an attempted assassination and forced medical leave coincide with a request to help find his ex-wife’s missing sister, Zack heads to San Francisco. He soon discovers Chloe is not the only person missing—numerous homeless people have taken part in drug trials and never been seen again.

The trail leads to the Athanasia Foundation, a powerful group of scientists and wealthy elites obsessed with cheating death and unconcerned about the collateral damage. Zack must navigate a labyrinth of unscrupulous experiments that span the globe and threaten the very fabric of humanity: genetic modification, cryogenics, consciousness uploading…
The more he digs, the darker the secrets he unveils, and the more bodies he uncovers.

Now someone is getting desperate. Zack has no interest in living forever but it’s a race against time to see who dies first—and he’s determined it won’t be him.

REVIEW:TRANSHUMAN is the fourth instalment in NJ Croft’s contemporary, adult ZACK WILDER THRILLER: THE FULCRUM suspense, sci-fi thriller focusing on thirty-four year old, former US Army Ranger turned FBI Special Agent Zack Wilder.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise including graphic violence and death, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Fulcrum is a ‘clandestine’ organization that has remained hidden from society for hundreds of years, an organization that hopes to maintain order in a world precariously balancing between chaos and harmony.

WHAT IS TRANSHUMAN?: According to the Oxford dictionary the belief or theory that the human race can evolve beyond its current physical and mental limitations, especially by means of science and technology.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including FBI Agent Zack Wilder TRANSHUMAN follows in the wake of Zack Wilder’s leave of absence from the FBI. Always a bit of a rogue agent, Zack finds himself suspended, for the lack of a better term, but when his ex-wife calls saying her younger sister has gone missing, Zack knows his time off will be spent hunting for the people involved. Zack’s investigation begins to spiral when our hero discovers several missing homeless people may have unwittingly become part of a group whose lives have been forfeited in the name of immortality, and Zack may be the next victim on the list. Always acting on his own, without the permission of the those in charge, Zack focuses on the reality of what is happening, and why danger is present at every turn. Not only has Zack disobeyed the his superiors at the FBI but the Fulcrum Organization is none too pleased with our story line hero.

The secondary and supporting characters are interesting and charismatic. We are reintroduced to Zack’s ex-wife Sarah, and his former FBI Partner Special Agent Kelsey Taylor; Zack’s handler at Fulcrum Lazarus, Fulcrum agent Kienan Reynolds, as well as Zack’s brother Senator Peter MacNally. The requisite evil has many faces.

TRANSHUMAN is a story of power, money and control; of life and death; of immortality and sustainability; of betrayal and vengeance; of cryogenics, cybernetics, science and more. The premise is detailed, complex and intriguing; the characters are determined, desperate, dangerous and powerful.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 28, 2024

A story as old as time… He comes from nothing, and she was born with a silver spoon. Do opposites really attract?

The Black Knights are back and better than ever!

As the son of a felon, Fisher Wakefield is no stranger to the seedier side of life. So when Eliza Meadows, BKI’s elegant and efficient Girl Friday, finds herself the target of group of low-down, murderous thugs, he doesn’t hesitate to jump into the fray despite Eliza insisting she doesn’t need his help.

The lone survivor and only witness to the killing of U.S. senator and his family, Eliza is forced to rely on the covert operators at Black Knights Inc. to keep her safe. But she’s never been very good at letting other people solve her problems. And to make matters worse, Fisher, the bad boy from the bayou, refuses to leave her side.

As the Black Knights race to uncover who is behind the senator’s murder, they soon find out all is not as it seems. There are mysterious powers at play. And if Fisher and Eliza can’t learn to work together, they might lose everything.

••••••

REVIEW: MAN IN BLACK is the third instalment in Julie Ann Walker’s contemporary, adult BLACK KNIGHTS INC: RELOADED romantic suspense series- a spin off set in the author’s BLACK KNIGHTS INC world. This is Fisher Wakefield, and Eliza Meadows’ story line. MAN IN BLACK can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing plot, as well as Eliza and Fisher’s story begins in book one.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Fisher and Eliza MAN IN BLACK follows in the aftermath of the assassination of several members of the US government. As one of only three survivors, Eliza Meadows is under the protection of the crew at BKI (Black Knights Inc) but when the other two survivors are murdered, the FBI makes other arrangements for our story line heroine. Nothing goes according to plan when an attack at the BKI compound threatens the lives of the entire crew, forcing Eliza to face down the man who had stolen her heart. Enter BKI agent Fisher Wakefield, the man who fell in love with Eliza the first day they met. What ensues is the building but contemptuous relationship between Eliza and Fisher, and the potential fall-out as Fisher struggles with the demons from his past, pushing Eliza out of his life.

The world building follows several pathways including the attempts on the lives of the BKI members, all black ops and former black ops soldiers. Several of the original team members offer guidance and familiarity, as the new crew of members find their own happily ever afters but Fisher struggles with what was, and believes he is not capable of happiness or love.

The relationship between Eliza and Fisher struggles in the face of unrequited love. Eliza has been dating a senator’s son as Fisher watches from the sidelines as his heart is destroyed. Eliza knows her heart belongs to someone else but their animosity is pulling our couple apart. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate and intense.

Once again, several original members of the BKI family return including Becky and Boss. We are introduced to FBI Agent Julia O’Toole, and the return of Britt Rollins. There is something developing between Britt and Julia. The requisite evil has many faces

MAN IN BLACK is a story of betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, power and control, acceptance, forgiveness and love. The premise is captivating and compelling; the romance is seductive but struggles in the face of ridicule and scorn; the characters are desperate, determined and broken.

Past Tense (Matt Moulton Mystery 1) by Michael Amedeo-review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo Paper /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 20, 2024

As America races toward the supposedly bright new decade of the 1950’s, disillusioned white private dick Matt Moulton finds himself faltering in the dark. Should he serve an amnesiac client whose recovering memories of paid murder intensify his own wartime guilt as an assassin? Should he risk endangering the person he loves, a beautiful black woman, for information on that case and an apparently related one? Does he imagine he can save her and himself from the corruption, the intolerance, and the apathy that linger in that violent nation’s shadows?

Taking place in a misty, sulky San Francisco, “Past Tense” appeals to readers who love their thrillers hardboiled. It brings pulp fiction back from the past, but here the genre seems more modern and yet more noir-like than ever before.

•••••

REVIEW: PAST TENSE is the first instalment in Michael Amedeo’s historical, adult MATT MOULTON MYSTERY noir, mystery series focusing on private dick Matt Moulton.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers from more sensitive readers.

Told from first person perspective (Matt) PAST TENSE follows former US Army sniper / Detective turned private dick Matt Moulton. The year is 1949, and Matt Moulton, a successful private investigator is about to find himself in the middle of an investigation where the body count rises in proportion to the secrets and lies uncovered by our story line hero. Matt has been contracted to find a missing woman but the information Matt receives only veils the truth when another case involving an assassin with amnesia crosses over with Matt’s current case, involving a corrupt politician, and several unscrupulous law enforcement officers. With the aid of his office assistant Sara, and administrative assistant Gina, Matt begins to unravel the truth, a truth that becomes stranger than fiction as a killer takes aim at everyone involved.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and interesting secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Matt’s assistant Sara Manson; his girlfriend and detective bureau administrative assistant Gina Harner; Lieutenant Gilbert Brannigan; San Francisco mayor Anthony Rossini, and assassin John Boorman.

PAST TENSE is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, murder and corruption, race, acceptance and relationships. The premise is intriguing, suspenseful and dramatic; the characters are colorful and charismatic.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 27, 2024

A cell phone number triggers a deadly chain of events which pits assassins Matt and John against the enigmatic Anastasiya. She is a vampire who has lived in the shadows for two hundred years and is not about to allow the extermination of her kind by mere mortals.

When a desperate young woman named Faith joins the men, she becomes the key to Anastasiya finding them. The vigilante priest, the ruthless crime boss, the disillusioned PI, the unfaithful trophy wife — each has their part to play as Anastasiya’s hunt moves towards the inevitable deadly showdown.

Hera’s Curse is a blend of crime noir and deconstructed vampire myth unlike anything you will read.

••••

REVIEW:This is definitely not your typical vampire story. A pretty good plot. Good characters and twists that will keep you reading until the last page.

Matt and John are assassins, guns for hire. On the lookout for a target they’ve been assigned. One looks forward to the chase and killing, the other not so much. They’ve been friends for a while, but a rift is beginning to form…..

Faith made one bad choice and now she’s paying for it! But when a lifeline is thrown to her, Faith has to quickly decide to stay where she is (if she does then she won’t be around for much longer 💀) or to go with Matt and John her new heroes and help them find the guy she’s with. (I personally would go with option two.) Deciding on the second option, Faith hopes it doesn’t lead her down an even more dangerous path!!

And Anastasiya our villain of the story, but is she? Being persecuted by humans who feel threatened by her has Anastasiya on edge. Being hunted because of one silly mistake made by one of her progeny, Anastasiya will hunt them. And Faith maybe the key to finding the two killers…..

It has stories coming together from all the different characters, we get to see how they come to this point in their lives, why they are here, and how it’s all going to end!

The ending, although I vaguely saw coming, still surprised me.

But I’m going to be honest, I really struggled getting into the book and it keeping my attention. I usually inhale vampire stories. But this one…. I can’t put my finger on it, it just didn’t flow like the books I usually read.

But that’s not to say it’s a bad book, no it’s not. It’s written well, thought out pretty good, and executed nicely.

The characters felt just a little out of sync with each other and the book. But I could easily distinguish one from another.

A good read if you like a thriller with a noir feeling.

EVOLUTION OF A STORY
By Shaun Griffin

How does an author come up with an idea? How does it evolve? Is there some secret formula? Could a simple algorithm be designed to create our stories? Input some values and, hey presto, your story is done. I suppose to some degree this is happening.
All hail the AI tech wizards of creative oblivion.

The extent to which the art of weaving stories will be successfully mimicked by AI is much debated. There are times I grow despondent at the idea human beings would even think to relinquish their creativity to an algorithm. But then the muse wakes me at three in the morning with an idea and it is something magical. A magic I think AI will never be able to replicate.

This brings me to how I came up with my novel, Hera’s Curse. Although it was not called that in the beginning. It began as a short story called, Compound Vision.

It was 1998. I was driving to work one morning when I passed an old Ford Cortina (for American readers the equivalent would be a 1980s Chevy sedan) travelling well below the speed limit. Two young men, obviously closely related, sat upfront. They stared blankly ahead, blithely unaware of the world around them. The word ‘Hick’ immediately came to mind. Then it occurred to me—what if there was more to these two than met the eye? Rather than the slow-witted individuals they appeared to be, what if they were hitmen? I had this mental image of two brothers in dungarees and hobnailed boots sporting Magnum revolvers.

A few weeks later I was filling up at a gas station when a white minivan pulled up alongside. Seated inside were two prim rows of high school girls. What struck me was that they looked identical—from their immaculate private school uniforms to the blonde hair pulled back in a regulation ponytail. Every school principal’s dream. But what if that conformity hid something far more sinister?

That weekend I wrote a short story about two country bumpkin hitmen hunting a thug named Manny, who has been lured to a boarding house by some young women with the promise of sex. In the men’s search they meet Faith, a runaway who has been forced to work for Manny. She leads them to the boarding house where they discover the vampire women feeding on Manny. The story was told in a tongue-in-cheek style from the perspective of a fly-on-the-wall, hence the title. Everyone who read it remarked that I should expand it into a full-length story.

Work commitments got in the way and the story was shelved. Fifteen years later, I finally sat down to write. I thought about the original story. The characters in it were just caricatures and would not sustain the interest of anyone reading a novel. But where to start?

The first to change were the hitmen. They evolved into Matthew and John, two young men waging a war against drug dealers, though each for different reasons. Next were the young vampire women. Who were they? How did they become? For this story I felt things should be grounded in a plausible reality. Out went the usual tropes. These vampires would be a product of a virus and though enhanced in strength, agility, longevity and so forth, they could be killed like any human.

An infectious disease needs an origin and so the character of Anastasiya was born. Her noble origins and her motivation for creating her cult fell into place easily. It was then that I saw that the main conflict would be between Anastasiya and Faith, the last of my original trio. Mother and Maiden but who to be the Crone? Tammy is my interpretation of this aspect of the Goddess. All that was left was a way of connecting these protagonists. Enter Don Stone, the quintessential PI.

Once I’d completed my first draft, I realised I had the makings of a trilogy. I called it, American Noir. I hope you find the first part, Hera’s Curse, as enjoyable to read as I did to write it.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 14, 2024

A ruthless, jaded elf and a bewitching human hiding a powerful secret—unlikely soulmates whose passion will test the boundaries of life and death.

Nothing could make Yasmin return to Shaldorn, the place of nightmares. But when she’s caught stealing, she’s given an ultimatum: take Ravi over the Dangerous Peaks to the stronghold or face imprisonment.

She has no choice but to agree, though she intends to escape the elf as soon as she reaches the mountains. Yet, as they battle nature itself, the two enemies find common ground—and an all-consuming passion.

Can they prevail in their dangerous heist, or be torn apart by a betrayal?

••••

REVIEW:RISING SUN is the first instalment in Donna Grant’s adult ELVEN KINGDOMS paranormal / fantasy romance series, a spin off, set in the author’s numerous interconnected series including Dark Kings and Dragon Kings. This is sun elf Ravi, and human Yasmin’s story line. There is a slight cross over with Dragon Lover (Dragon Kings 5).

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Ravi and Yasmin) RISING SUN focuses on the search for a weapon that may be used to take down the Dragon Kings. Yasmin is struggling to feed the many mouths of the children she has chosen to raise but branded a thief, Yasmin must choose between imprisonment or returning to the place that all but destroyed her life. A cross-country journey with sun elf Ravi forces Yasmin to face her darkest fears including the revelation that Yasmin is much more than she appears to be.

The world building is set in a fantasy world with seven kinds of elves, and the return of the Dragons, once thought to be a myth. Someone is determined to destroy the dragons, and in doing so, control the order and the elves.

The relationship between Yasmin and Ravi begins as an assignment. Ravi works for the DIA, and has been tasked to retrieve an explosive device meant to destroy the mythical dragon but Yasmin is struggling with betrayal, and the memories of a place so dark and depraved that very few people make it out alive. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of magical and power beings including the return of Dragon King Kendrick and his mate Esha, as well as several elves including dark elf Dain, and Mountain Elf Manu. The requisite evil has many faces.

RISING SUN is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, jealousy and madness, acceptance and love. The slow building and familiar premise is engaging and interesting; the romance is subtle, there is little palpable sexual attraction; the characters are desperate and dynamic.

FOSTER (Pittsburgh Titans 13) by Sawyer Bennett-review tour

FOSTER (Pittsburgh Titans 13) by Sawyer Bennett

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Google Play / Apple /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 21, 2024

When Foster McInnis’ ex-wife flakes and he finds himself with full custody of his daughter, the nanny he hires brings a new complication—an attraction he can’t ignore, no matter how hard he tries.

I love being on the ice and am grateful for my hockey career, but the off season is my favorite time of the year because it brings me my one true love—my daughter, Bowie Jane. Between my job and my ex-wife living across the country, the time I get to spend face-to-face with my kiddo is limited, though we make up for it with summers full of fun adventures. We’re thick as thieves and take full advantage of our time together, but the distance away from her is killing me.

My fortunes change when my ex walks away and I find myself with full custody. But with the hockey season looming, I know I’m going to need help taking care of Bowie Jane. Enter Mary Elizabeth Archer—otherwise known as Mazzy. Highly recommended to me through the Titans’ network, Mazzy crashes into our life like a hurricane. She’s unlike anyone I’ve ever met and to say I’m intrigued is an understatement. But no matter how attractive she is, no matter how I crave to know everything about her, I can’t go there. It’s inappropriate. Just wrong, wrong, wrong, even though she might be the most right thing I’ve ever known.

Being the indescribable force she is, there is soon no corner of our lives that Mazzy hasn’t impacted in a positive way. And my desire for more with her becomes far stronger than my misguided idea that I could ever resist this woman. Our attraction burns hot and keeping our eyes, hands and mouths off one another gets harder by the minute. It doesn’t take long for me to know that I’m all in with Mazzy. She’s my end game and, lucky for me, winning is my specialty.

••••••

REVIEW: FOSTER is the thirteenth instalment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult PITTSBURGH TITANS erotic, hockey romance series. This is twenty-nine year old, center Foster McInnis, and twenty-eight year old musician and nanny Mary Elizabeth ‘Mazzy’ Archer’s story line. FOSTER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Mazzy and Foster) FOSTER follows the building romance and relationship between our story line couple. Foster McInnis has been granted full-time custody of his ten year old daughter Bowie Jane but Foster needs a nanny, and Mary Elizabeth ‘Mazzy’ Archer is perfect for the job. Mazzy is a musician who was nanny to her younger siblings, and Bowie Jane’s immediate acceptance and trust is everything Foster had been hoping for but Foster never expected to fall for his daughter’s nanny, and in this, Foster must tread carefully before taking a chance. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Foster and Mazzy, and the potential fall-out when Foster’s ex returns taking what doesn’t belong.

The world building is a familiar one-professional father falls in love with his child’s nanny. Foster knows that to cross a line may affect his only child but with the help of his fellow teammates, Foster comes to a decision that will affect his life going forward.

The relationship between Foster and Mazzy begins acrimoniously as Mazzy immediately butts heads with our story line hero. Mazzy has been offered an other position, and Foster is willing to offer anything for help in raising his daughter. As Mazzy and Foster begin to spend time together as a family with Bowie Jane, Foster is slowly falling for the woman that could break his daughter’s heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include several new members of the Pittsburgh Titans hockey club including team owner Brienne Norcross, and GM Callum Derringer. We are introduced to Mazzy large extended family, as well as Foster’s ex Sandra, and her boyfriend Chet.

FOSTER is a story of betrayal and vengeance, lies and manipulation, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is captivating but the conflict resolution was a little too rushed and felt incomplete; the romance is seductive-the chemistry is palpable; the characters are determined and animated.

I taunted a monster. Now I’m caught in his claws.

He was only supposed to be a faceless fantasy.

A masked man from the app to enact my darkest, most depraved impulses with. But I played games with the wrong stranger, and caught the attention of a psychopath.

Because Kratos Drakos isn’t just Greek Mafia royalty. He’s not just lethally powerful, physically massive, and dangerously gorgeous.

I’ve seen what lurks beneath his mask: a beast with a primal taste for chasing, catching, and corrupting.

Now, to stop a mafia war, I’m being wed to that very monster.

But the deeper I’m drawn into Kratos’ twisted reality, the more I realize one thing: The most dangerous game you can play with a psychopath isn’t running away.

It’s falling for one.

••••••

REVIEW: CORRUPTED HEART is the fourth instalment in Jagger Cole’s contemporary, adult VENOMOUS GODS dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is Italian Mafia princess and dancer Bianca Sartorre, Greek Mafia Kratos Drakos, story line. CORRUPTED HEART can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there WILL BE multiple TRIGGERS for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Kratos and Bianca) CORRUPTED HEART follows in the wake of the arranged marriage between our story line couple. A war between the controlling factions of the Greek, Italian, Russian and Serbian Mafia has escalated in part due to the accidental actions of our story line heroine. Pulled into a dangerous situation where she was left to fend for herself, Bianca will quickly discover payment will come at a cost, perhaps the cost of her life. In order to pay for the sins of our heroine, Bianca is forced to marry a monster of a man, a man with whom she is currently involved but all is not, and has never been well in Kratos Drakos’ life, and the past is about to threaten everyone he has ever loved. What ensues is the unconventional relationship between Kratos and Bianca, and the potential fall-out as betrayal threatens to destroy our story line couple

The world building is dark and gritty. Jagger Cole’s storylines are increasingly more brutal, and the characters are bordering on, if not, psychopaths and deviants. Twisted kinks amounting to questionable choices threatens our story line heroine at every turn.

The relationship between Kratos and Bianca begins as a rescue, of a sorts. Bianca is thrown into a situation by a so-called friend but our heroine finds herself a victim of naivety and immaturity as she struggles to stay one step ahead of the of the horrifying reality that has become her world. Kratos Drakos is a creation of his late father-a monster without remorse but a man who has fallen in love with a woman whose own needs are met by our hero. The $ex scenes are dark, unconventional edgy and provocative.

There is a large ensemble cast of questionable, colorful and charismatic secondary and supporting characters many of whom are deviant, and brutal.

CORRUPTED HEART is a story involving the criminal underworld including Russian, Greek, Italian, Irish and Serbian Mafias; a dark, dramatic and twisted premise of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, madness and murder, acceptance and love. The characters are struggling, embattled, and haunting; the romance is tragic and raw.

Heed my WARNING-the triggers are numerous, brutal, haunting- a cautionary suggestion to be prepared.

Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Rebel is the daughter of Alabama Chapter’s club president Shades (Shades #3), and Brayden is the son of California Chapter president Cole (Outlaw #1).

Told from dual first person perspectives ( Brayden and Rebel) BRAYDEN follows the forbidden relationship between Brayden and Rebel. The death of an MC member in the Alabama Chapter MC pulls together brother bikers from all over the States where Brayden Austin will meet his future in the guise of mechanic Rebel but a long standing feud between the presidents of the Alabama and California chapters threatens their growing relationship from the start, pushing Brayden to make a decision that will hurt the people he loves. What ensues is the forbidden but quick building romance and relationship between Brayden and Rebel, and the fall-out when Brayden is forced to chose between family and love.

The world building focuses on life and death, forgiveness and acceptance, family and love . A new enemy is threatening the established MCs; a bitter rivalry, and the fall-out of a life long friendship culminates in the love between the children of the people in charge.

The relationship between Brayden and Rebel is one of immediate attraction but neither one is aware of what happened in the past. The ‘sins of the father’ is threatening the growing love between our story line couple when the couple is forced to make a choice. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate.

Once agains, there is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters many of whom we met in the previous series-Ghost, Red Dog, Blood,Shades, Cole as well as Marcus, TJ and Billy.

BRAYDEN is a story of power and control, family and friendships, forgiveness and love. The premise is dramatic and intriguing; the romance is immediate and attentive; the characters are desperate and broken.
