Description:
As they do each June, the Foxes have driven the winding roads of Appalachia to drop off their children for a two-week stay at their grandmother’s. Here, twelve-year-old Thea can run free and breathe in the smells of pine and fresh bread and Grammie’s handmade candles. But as her parents head back to suburban Virginia, they have no idea they’re about to cross paths with a ticking time bomb.

Back in Kentucky, Thea and her grandmother Lucy both awaken from the same nightmare. And though the two have never discussed the special kind of sight they share, they know as soon as their tearful eyes meet that something terrible has happened.

The kids will be staying with Grammie now in Redbud Hollow, and thanks to Thea’s vision, their parents’ killer will spend his life in supermax. Over time, Thea will make friends, build a career, find love. But that ability to see into minds and souls still lurks within her, and though Grammie calls it a gift, it feels more like a curse―because the inmate who shattered her childhood has the same ability. Thea can hear his twisted thoughts and witness his evil acts from miles away. He knows it, and hungers for vengeance. A long, silent battle will be waged between them―and eventually bring them face to face, and head to head…

Review:

Mind Games by Nora Roberts is a fantastic standalone suspenseful novel, that had me unable to put the book down.   No surprise, as Nora Roberts/JD Robb never fails to disappoint.  With school out for the summer, the Fox family travels to Kentucky, so that the kids (12 year old Thea and 10 year old Rem) can spend two weeks with their Grandmother Lucy.  They love being there with the animals, gardens, mountains, and their Grammie.  Their mother and father return home to Virginia, giving them their own vacation; which leads them into a terrible tragedy about to happen.

Thea awakens from a nightmare, as she saw her parents murdered, and she runs to her grandmother, only to realize that she saw the same nightmare. They both share a gift that is part of the female women in their family, which have the ability to see unique sights. Thea remembers everything about that nightmare, including the killer.  The kids will be staying with Grammie now in Redbud Hollow, and thanks to Thea’s vision, the man who killed their parents has been captured and will spend the rest of his life in prison, with no parole.  Thea learns quickly that the killer also has the same gift, using his gift to tie himself to her; which over 15 years becomes a continual mental battle between the two of them. Thea’s gift is very strong, which allows her to help two detectives to find a missing girl.  Both of those detectives will come to Thea over the years asking for her help.

Thea was a fantastic heroine, as she was smart, strong, dedicated and determined to be one stop ahead of Riggs.  I loved her relationship with Lucy (her grandmother) and Rem (her brother).  It was heartwarming to see how they always there supported each other, including Lucy’s two older sons. All the characters were great, including her best friend Maddy.  Ty (a well-known musician) came into the picture about half way through with his young son, Bray; and in a short time, they both had strong feelings for each other. I loved Bunt, Thea’s dog. & his love of Bray.

Thea was very good at her designing her own video games, getting hired by a firm to create those video games.  She manages to stop Riggs attempts to get through to her, but she wants a life without this evil villain, who always is trying to get into her head.  Thea decides to create a different kind of final game, just for him, as she knows how to mentally deal with him and closing his mind forever.

Mine Games is a fascinating and suspenseful story, that deals with drama, family, murder, psychic abilities, evil villain and romance. Once again, Nora Roberts gives us a fantastic story that has us unable to put the book down from start to finish.  Mind Games was so very well written by Nora Roberts.  You need to read this book, as it was great.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date MAY 16, 2024

All it takes is just one look.

Adak

After a series of relationships where I’ve been made to feel inadequate because of my asexuality, I’ve made the sole focus of my life my coaching career. I love hockey – the chill of the ice, the fast paced, high stress game. I love the fans and the atmosphere. The energy. Now that I’m coaching in the NHL, I feel a sense of serenity and comfort with life. All that’s left is to get my team to The Stanley Cup.

A series of unfortunate injuries has riddled the Bobcats into a serious funk. The frustration that my boys feel echoes through me and after one of the most horrible plays I’ve ever witnessed, I turn my back on the ice – only to catch his eyes. Suddenly, I know what I’ve been missing. In a sea of over 15,000 faces, I found the one I’ve been waiting my entire life for.

There’s sadness in his eyes that’s only overcome with the fear behind it. Nothing will stop me from making Oren mine and giving him the life and love he deserves. Nothing.

Oren

My life is shit. I’m the pariah of my family for hell knows why. All I want is to get away. But I tried once – at nineteen, I ran and my father with his buddies on the police force dragged me home. I’ve since been dragged down into submission.

But then I meet his eyes and everything inside me just… shifts. Adak takes a chance on me and I think that perhaps my father has finally met a wall he can’t barrel through to keep control. That is, until he starts blasting his hate everywhere.

I wouldn’t blame Adak if he chooses to leave. This is his career on the line. His image and reputation. Am I worth it?

•••••••

REVIEW:I was hoping for a better story this time as I wasn’t too keen on the last one!

This one I loved, we got the hockey side (which I missed in the last one) we got a few little steamy moments. But it was the connection between Oren and Adak that I adored.

Adak is an ice hockey coach. We’ve met him a couple of times in previous books. It’s not necessary to read the previous ones as they all stand on their own. It was just great that he finally got a story.

He loves the game, his team and the fans that come out to support the team week in and week out.

But he’s lonely, he has a loving family, but he wants what his nephew has with his new husband. He wants a connection to another soul…. Past partners have put pressure on Adak to bend to their needs and make him feel guilty when he doesn’t conform to what society thinks is normal.

I love meeting new characters, I like that it’s not always about the s€x. The author has shown us that love comes in many shapes and forms like humans do. Just because you love someone differently, doesn’t make it wrong.

Oren had me in the first page. His home life is horrid. A father that controls every aspect of his life…. From the clothes he wears to the food he eats. From the job he should be doing (luckily Oren stuck to his principles on that one!) to the friends he should have. He was verbally beaten down, until Oren had nowhere or no one to turn to!! Even his brothers joined with the verbal beat down!! 😔

Fate, or whatever you want to call it put Oren in Adak’s sights. And from then on it gave Oren the strength to fight for what he wanted. It wasn’t easy, it wasn’t pretty, in fact reading parts of the struggle to gain his freedom had me in tears and shouting at my kindle!! His confidence was nonexistent, his self worth was at an all time low. He constantly questioned himself, and had nothing but anxiety when around his family.

It also gave Adak the partner he deserved. One who loved him just the way he was, didn’t expect anything but love/cuddles and understanding.

This book does have triggers. This book is hard going (but sooooo worth the effort) and this book is now my second favourite in the series (Rakesh and Egon will always have my number one position) I just loved how they grew stronger after each incident. I chuckled at the most inappropriate times, and smiled at all the cuddling within this book.

Slow burn ? 🤔 almost borders on the sweet side. But it’s a great read, and one I’m highly recommending. 🫶🏻👌🫶🏻

A Sinful Gift by Emma Castle – a Review

A Sinful Gift by Emma Castle – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Apple / Google Play / Bookbub

Description:
Kidnapped by one man and given to another…to be shared…Feisty, brave and intelligent, Hazel Callahan isn’t afraid of many things in life. Until she’s kidnapped while leaving a bar by a gorgeous mountain man. Her mysterious captor tells her that she’s to be a gift to his friend. When she meets the man who will be the master of her fate, she never imagined she would actually be tempted to surrender to him, or that she’d be willing when he tells her he plans to share her with the mountain man who first took her. A game of seduction begins and soon Hazel fears she may never want to leave…

Review:

A Sinful Gift by Emma Castle is a spicy novella. Hazel Callahan has just won her law case, against her rival, Blake.  She celebrates her win at a bar, and meets a hot sexy man; but decides to go home alone.  As she leaves to her car, she is kidnapped by her mysterious captor, and he tells her he is bringing her to a friend as a gift.  Hazel isn’t afraid of anything, as she is intelligent and feisty, able fight off anyone, but this hunk of a man carries her to the house where she will meet the man who is to be her gift.

To Hazel’s surprise, the man who was gifted, turns out to be her rival, Blake; as they had a relationship years ago, and Blake has never forgotten her. Blake tells her he plans to share her with her captor, Mason, who is his best friend.  Hazel finds herself totally attracted to both men, and a game of seduction begins. They tell her that she would be worshipped like a goddess, with both sharing her.  Hazel willingly knows she will love the attention and all the steamy sex; especially with two men who are swoon worthy.  Blake & Mason (best friends) were determined to win her over, with an overload of pleasure; and Hazel worries that she may never want to leave.

What follows is a very steamy and sexy story, that was constant sex from start to finish. I liked each character individually, as they were loving and caring. Blake having not forgotten about Hazel, was going to do all he could to not let her get away again.  I did think this was a bit too much constant sex scenes.   For those of you who like this steamy storyline, you probably will need to take a cold shower.  😊

Dukes and Diamonds by Lauren Smith – a Review

Dukes and Diamonds by Lauren Smith – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Bookbub

Description:
Diamonds are a duke’s best friend…

When the infamously cold-hearted Duke of Helston decides to catch a gang of jewel thieves stealing from London’s elite circles, he never expects the thief to be a woman.

She’s not just any woman either…she happens to be the bewitching creature he met in the darkened corridor during a musicale who changed his life forever.

What’s a duke to do when he wants to catch a thief who not only stole his family diamond, but also his heart?

Review:

Dukes and Diamonds by Lauren Smith the first book in a new series. I really like how this author does both historical and paranormal stories. Dukes and Diamonds is the first book in a new Victorian Jewel trilogy featuring three women who come together to steal from the rich and give to the poor. (Very Robin Hood vibes.)

Without her new found friends, Tabitha’s story might have turned out completely different! Stealing food to survive, her fathers death had left her destitute and all alone. Then stealing from the rich to give to the poor (but only the ones who deserved it!).

Fitzwilliam Seagrave (Fitz to friends) the cold-hearted Duke of Helston (the name the ladies of high society gave him) decides to catch an elusive gang of jewel thieves stealing from London’s elite circles. Setting a trap to catch the thief he never expects the thief to be a woman. And she’s not just any woman either…she happens to be the young lady he’s beginning to fall for, exchanging heated woods and a wonderful moment that has him thinking of wedlock!

Fitz doesn’t believe or carry the notion of love. But spending illicit moments with Tabitha has him thinking thoughts he ought not to! And how can he marry a penniless young woman who he thinks is a thief? So beneath his station (arrogant man 😆) but with the help of his friends and grandmother (who is such a hoot) he’s taught a few valuable lessons. He just has to come up with a way of letting Tabitha know his feelings (and to stop her from stealing!)

I liked Tabitha (although a little uncomfortable with her stealing, but I see why) her actions had a motive, and her wit had me chuckling throughout the book. I like that she wasn’t a shy and innocent maiden (he won’t be her first bedroom experience 😜) and lusted after her Duke. She’s loyal to her friends and a quick mind.

Her partners in crime are Julia and Hannah, and they make a great trio. And I’m hoping they both get a story as each young lady is such a laugh, but have their own stories of woe!

Add in a few steamy interludes, the other  Robins and other side characters and it’s a good read. Throw in a little angst and a twist, and it turns from a good into a great read.

I can’t wait to read who’s next. So what happens next? There has to be consequences to her actions. If she’s caught will she name her accomplices? And will Fitz forgive her, or turn her into the local constabulary?

My entire world has been turned upside down.
With one adjustment after another.
The truth of my father’s betrayal cuts deep.
Now, my little sister, Clover, is struggling to deal with day-to-day life.

I’ve given everything for her. I joined Defiance to keep her safe. And now, being reunited with our older sister who we thought was gone, I don’t have to go it alone. But it’s not enough. Clover’s grades are declining, and I refuse to let her fail.

Enter Sadie, the feisty blonde tutor. A woman who takes my breath away, despite hurling accusations that the club is Clover’s issue.

She might be small in stature, but what she lacks in size, she makes up for in sassiness. Sadie doesn’t hold back, letting me know her thoughts on the club, and me. But what is clear mutual loathing needs to be set aside, because Sadie is the only one who can help Clover thrive.

Sadie aggravates me, yet something pulls me toward her. She’s a beacon, but beneath the light shines secrets. There’s a poison running through her hidden past. I just have to hope the venom doesn’t paralyze me before it’s too late.

REVIEW:MALICIOUS is the second instalment in KE Osborn’s contemporary adult LA DEFIANCE MC erotic, MC romance series -a spin off from the author’s NOLA Defiance MC/ set in the author’s world of Defiance MC. This is Jesse ‘Maverick’ Cadell, and baker/tutor Sadie Evan/ Connor’s story line. MALICIOUS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for cohesion.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Sadie and Maverick) MALICIOUS follows the acrimonious relationship between our story line couple. Maverick joined LA Defiance in the wake of his father’s betrayal, and protecting his sister Clover is precipitated Maverick’s move to LA but Clover’s health and her association with the MC are affecting her grades, so the club hires tutor Sadie Connor. From the outset, Maverick struggles with Sadie’s appearance in their lives, her attitude towards the club, and his attraction to the woman who would steal his heart but Sadie has a secret that is about to threaten the live of everyone Maverick loves. What ensues is the building but tempestuous relationship between Maverick and Sadie, and the potential fall-out as the past returns to claim our story line heroine placing a target on the back of the LA Defiance MC.

The world building follows several paths including the personal lives of several members of the LA Defiance MC. From Clover’s struggle in school, to Ingrid’s pregnancy, and the potential war with the Rojas Cartel, and the Steel Serpents MC.

The relationship between Maverick and Sadie is acrimonious at best. Sadie doesn’t respect the MC and her reasons are currently not known but Maverick’s dislike of Sadie is in complete contradiction to his attraction to the woman with whom he will fall in love. The love scenes are intimate and provocative.

The secondary and supporting characters include LA Defiance MC president and former Special Forces soldier Alpha, and twenty-five year old Haven aka Blue Jay; Livvy, Rhyann, Poppy, Navy, Loki, Dutch, South and Ingrid (NOLA Defiance MC) as well as Sadie’s ex Grave, and her brother Wes. The requisite evil has many faces.

MALICIOUS is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, destruction and chaos, acceptance and love. The premise is impassioned and captivating; the romance is seductive and provocative; the characters are energetic , determined and charismatic.

REVIEW: FIERCE MONARCH is the third instalment in MJ Crouch’s contemporary, adult GILDED EMPIRE dark, erotic, reverse harem, criminal underworld romance series focusing on Mari Marcosa and the three men whom she loves: Greyson Andrews, Dominic Ricci and Nate Black. FIERCE MONARCH should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events and cliff hanger of book two DAMAGED KINGDOM.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from four first person perspectives (Mari, Greyson, Dominic, Nate) FIERCE MONARCH picks up immediately after the cliff hanger of book two DAMAGED KINGDOM. The betrayals against Mafia Queen Mari Marcosa are coming hard and fast but the most recent betrayal hits the hardest at her heart and her soul. Struggling to move on Mari’s world begins to crumble including further betrayals from people she once considered family and friends. With the help of the men who stood by her side, Mari needs to set a plan into motion but all does not go according to plan when several more attempts are made on not only Mari’s life but on the people closest to our story line heroine.

The world building continues to be complex and detailed, following several paths of betrayal and vengeance. Most of the ruling families, as well as the capos and their men do not like to bow to a woman in charge, and in this Mari has become the number one target, not only of the people beneath her but of someone else gunning for the chair at the top.

The relationship between Mari and the men that she loves is crumbling; destroyed by betrayal, secrets and lies, and going forward Mari will focus on a permanent union to keep the monsters at bay. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense.

Once again there is a large ensemble cast of dangerous and dynamic secondary and supporting characters, many of whom are targeting our story line heroine. Cassius ‘Cash’ Beckstrom continues to focus on taking down the woman in charge, believing his place is on the seat of the throne.

FIERCE MONARCH is another story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, dysfunctional family values, deception, heart break and loss. The premise is dramatic and emotional; the romance is crumbling but provocative; the characters are dynamic and determined. FIERCE MONARCH ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 14, 2024

When hate leads to love next door…

My dad is protective. Scratch that. He’s like the person who would grab a chair, place it on the lawn, and watch me walk across the street just to deliver an apple. So, when a bet between the rude, good-looking guy across the way becomes a full-on battle, it turns into absolute chaos.

He says my degree is useless and that I’m a rich, spoiled princess. I say he’s an idiot who only knows how to fix motorcycles and is incapable of having a clean-shaven face. He gives me a tiara. Thanks. I buy him a razor. Perfect. He follows that up with a book… Like. I. Can’t. Read. I then give him soap—explanation easy there.

The following day, I receive a pink princess blanket that I may or may not have burned and tossed on his front doorstep, not realizing his dad is a cop. Now, both dads want the war to stop between us, forcing us to go on a camping trip to bury the hatchet—which I’m convinced he actually brought.

He’s a hazard to my health. But it’s only a weekend. I honestly don’t know if we’ll make it out alive, but the dads are tired of it all. Regardless, I’ll come out, and prove I’m not the princess he thinks I am. Maybe he’ll end up lost in the woods—one can only hope.

One thing’s for sure. I will never, ever fall for him. Ever.

A bet with the boy next door? Challenge accepted. I’ll be waiting for my trophy at the finish line.

REVIEW:LOVE HAZARD by Rachel Van Dyken is a contemporary, adult, erotic, romance stand alone set in the author’s THE BET series. This is August Wellington, and Hazel Titus’ story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Hazel and August) LOVE HAZARD follows the frenemies to friends to lovers relationship between our story line couple. Throughout most of her life, Hazel has felt the teasing wrath of our story line hero. From bullying to spiteful language and hate, Hazel has been targeted by the boy who would steal her heart. Fast forward to present day, Hazel returns home following her graduation and the death of her beloved great-grandmother only to face down the boy who is now beautiful man. Tired of their bickering and childish behavior, both August’s and Hazel’s fathers put a plan into motion, forcing our couple to work out their issues spending a weekend camping but all does not go according to plan when a wild bear and a rainstorm upend their weekend, and August and Hazel are forced to acknowledge their attraction at a nearby hotel. What ensues is the frenemies to lovers relationship in the face of years of heartbreak and emotional abuse.

LOVE HAZARD is a fast paced, quick read. Hazel and August have spent most of their lives taunting and teasing to the point of petty vengeance but grief and years of misdirected hatred push the families to force a confrontation between our story line couple. The premise is interesting and entertaining; the romance is fast and furious; the characters are determined but initially very immature.
