A vibrant, intense story of good and evil, of a doomed love affair, and of the lengths a family will go to in order to protect – and discover – the harrowing truth.

1933 Pea Ridge, Mississippi – A black man is allegedly murdered for the unspeakable crime of loving a white woman. Six months after his death, a mixed-race baby is born but the child vanishes. The most feared family in town is involved in these two incidents, but they are mysteries no one will speak of. To mention such things can only bring trouble, or worse…

Present Day – Beau Meade, former CIA agent and now county sheriff, is back to civilian life after years of serving his country in the most dangerous way possible. On a chance meeting with Lucy Bondurant, daughter of an old family nemesis, Beau finds himself swept up in a mystery that Lucy’s family hoped would stay buried forever. As they race against time to put the pieces of the puzzle together, Beau and Lucy come face to face with a love story as beautiful and as enduring as time itself.

HOUR OF DREAMS is all things bittersweet, tragic, and triumphant.

•••

REVIEW: HOUR OF DREAMS is the first instalment in Kat Le Veque’s contemporary, adult THE UNHOLY ANGELS romantic suspense series focusing on three former CIA agents: Trace Rocklin, Reed McCoy, and Beau Meade, a deep ops undercover group known as the Unholy Angels. This is attorney Lucy Bondurant, and Pea Ridge Sheriff Beau Meade’s story line.

NOTE : Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from omniscient dual third person perspectives (Beau and Lucy), following three time lines HOUR OF DREAMS focuses on the search for the truth. In 1933, Pea Ridge Mississippi, a young woman fell in love with a black boy, and the ensuing spiral manifested in pregnancy murder, cover ups, and hate in a time when interracial relationships were illegal. Fast forward to present day attorney Lucy Bondurant returns to her home town of Pea Ridge in the wake of her great grandmother Victory Hembree Bondurant’s death but her grandmother’s journals and a letter for Lucy are about to reveal a decades long secret that she refused to take to her grave. With the help of Sheriff Beau Meade, a former CIA operative with close connections to the past, Lucy will slowly unravel the truth about what happened years before. Two families tied together by the sins of the past, and a town that refuses to acknowledge what happened and why.

The world building follows several times lines;1933, early 2000s, and present day. The story line flashes between the past, a time when racism, prejudice, discrimination, murder and a brush with slavery endured; when the murder of a black man was tossed to the side. Present day focuses on Lucy and Beau’s search for the truth: a journal with a haunting story of love and loss, a town that refuses to talk about what happened in the past; and a stalker who won’t leave Lucy alone.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, enthusiastic and determined secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Lucy’s extended family including her parents Bill and Mary, Aunt Dell and Cousin Clyde, as well as several townsfolk with long memories and even longer hate.

HOUR OF DREAMS is a story of secrets and lies, love and loss, power and control, family and relationships. The premise is dramatic, heart breaking and dark; the romance is subtle; the characters are charismatic, determined and dynamic.

In this charming town where dreams come true, and Christmas magic is everywhere, come along for a tale of love, community, and the true spirit of the season.

Review:

Christmas in Chestnut Ridge by Nancy Naigle is the 2nd book in her wonderful Chestnut Ridge series. The story revolves around Sheila, who owns her own business in Richmond, as a successful realtor.  Natalie (book one heroine), moved to a small town in The Blue Ridge Mountains, in Chestnut Ridge.  With Christmas near, Sheila agrees to return for a few weeks in Chestnut Ridge, to help her bff, Natalie, in the town’s annual decorating contest, The Christmas Tree Stroll fundraiser.

Sheila decides to move in with Orene, a sweet older lady, who always welcomes her when she visits Chestnut Ridge; as well as the community welcoming her.  Natalie and her friend, Amanda begin to work with Sheila on the decorative trees for the contest; and the fun begins.  Chestnut Ridge is a close-knit town, priding themselves to go above and beyond throughout the community.  For example, when a home is destroyed in a fire, the town will rally around the family, helping the family (4 young children), find a temporary home, with everyone helping. Sheila is so moved by the residents helping, as she too will get gifts, as well as help the family in the future.

We meet Tucker, the towns Fire Chief, who is very good at his job, with everyone loving the how he gets his volunteers to do help with various things.  When the fire brought about home destruction, they did manage to stop the fire before it got totally destroyed.  When Tucker meets Sheila, he finds himself attracted to her, as they both felt the sparks between them.  Sheila always steps up to help others, including Tucker; slowly the romance between Tucker and Shelia escalates.  I did love Sheila and Tucker together, hope in the long run, they will find love.

Natalie, Amanda and Sheila are determined to win the contest, as Tucker’s volunteers are also determined to win. I love the camaraderie within the town, with Sheila enjoying the Christmas spirit; with all the residents always helping one another. All the fantastic secondary characters, made this a fabulous town to be part of.

Christmas in Chestnut Ridge was a sweet delightful story of friendship, love, heartwarming, wonderful neighbors and a terrific small-town romance. I loved the Christmas spirit, with all the decorations being done as they lead to Christmas, as well as The Christmas Tree Stroll contest.  Christmas in Chestnut Ridge was so very well written by Nancy Naigle. I wholly suggest you read this book, as it was a great read.

Review:

Snowy Mountain Christmas by Sharon Sala is another wonderful story that takes place in the Colorado mountains. Trey Austin, is doing research for a book he is writing, and makes a wrong turn leading him into a torrential storm, causing a devasting car crash.  Trey loses conscious, and opens his eyes as he is close to drowning, but he is being rescued by a woman with filled with courage to try and save him; her face was the last thing he saw.

Marley Corbett was also heading into the same storm, and discovers Trey’s car wreck. This tiny woman was determined to rescue Trey and eventually she manages to pull him out, and waits for the help to arrive.  Marley is exhausted and drained, and once the ambulance arrives, she continues to her home in Colorado.

Marley owns a B&B, having grown up in a family with lots of love, enough money and hard work in her business.   Trey grew up in a house with nannies, tons of money and no parental love or attention. Where Marley is happy, with lots of friends, who also help run the B&B; Trey is bitter about his parents with no love.

When Trey begins to heal, he is determined to find his savior, with no clues who or where she is.  He decides to use social media in getting help to find his “Cinderella”.  When time has passed a bit, Marley will see an interview showing Trey looking for his Cinderella girl; she calls the number and introduces herself as the woman who saved his life.  Trey is thrilled and heads to the mountains to meet Marley.

Trey arrives and meets Marley, and with a major snow storm, they spend lots of time together.  Trey finds himself falling for his dream girl; Marley also falls hard for Trey, as they made a great couple.  She also learns about Trey’s parent’s not being around him during his childhood years; as well as him being a well-known anonymous author. In time, Trey will get his agent to reveal his real name, since his books will be become a series.  Trey and Marley open themselves up to the public, since she was indeed the Cinderella girl.  I really liked a number of secondary characters, which included Marley’s Inn friends, and of course Meridith (Trey’s agent).

Snowy Mountain Christmas was a delightful, heartwarming fun, and wonderful Christmas story.  I really loved Trey and Marley together.  There was so much fun throughout, with moments of emotions, love, laughter and heartfelt times in this modern Cinderella story. Snowy Mountain Christmas was so very well written by Sharon Sala.  I wholly suggest you read this book, as you can never go wrong reading anything by Sharon Sala.

Even if she does help the burden of his own painful past feel a little lighter… But when their paths keep crossing at the holiday market, it starts to feel like fate, prompting them both to wonder if taking a chance on love might gift them everything they’ve been wishing for.

Review:

The December Market by RaeAnne Thayne is a sweet romantic Christmas story that takes place in Shelter Springs. We meet Amanda Taylor, who owns the local soap shop, in the town of Shelter Springs, Idaho.  Amanda wasn’t always a fan of Christmas, due to the past in her childhood, especially with her bad father. She runs her store, The Lucky Goat, as well as being the head of the Shelter Springs Holiday Giving Market during the Christmas holidays.  Amanda keeps tabs on her grandmother Birdie, and goes out of her way to help the community of Shelter Springs. Amanda worries when she notices her grandmother has been hanging around a new resident in the Shelter Inn retirement village.

Rafe Arredondo, is the grandson of Birdie’s suitor, as he is somewhat concerned, though not as much as Amanda is worried.  Rafe has an adorable young son, Issac; as well as being the assistant fire chief and being a paramedic. After an accident on the job, Rafe is told to take a month off, with his broken arm; which finds himself becoming friends with Amanda; and young Isaac is so adorable, with Amanda totally loving him.  Both Rafe and Amanda have had heartaches in their past lives; Rafe having lost his wife due to a drug overdose, and Amanda losing a boyfriend due to a tragedy.

In a short time, Rafe has strong feelings for Amanda, as they spent a lot of time at the Christmas market together; but Amanda refuses to admit that she is attracted to Rafe.  Both Amanda and Rafe have hard times with emotional issues in their lives, but their attraction continues to keep their paths intertwining.  Isaac was so cute, and he always invited Amanda to come to events, which brings Rafe too.  😊

The December Market was a wonderful, heartwarming romantic Christmas story.  I really like both Amanda and Rafe, and hoped that they would finally give into their love for each other.  The December Market was so very well written by RaeAnne Thayne.

A Reign of Rose by Kate Golden – a Review

A Reign of Rose by Kate Golden – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Bookbub

Description:
They must save the world—but can they also save each other?

Kane Ravenwood, King of Onyx Kingdom, would go to the ends of the continent for Arwen Valondale, but what if she’s beyond even that? Broken in ways he never imagined he could be, Kane must find a way to fulfill the prophecy and kill his father, Fae King Lazarus. And after what he’s endured, he’s willing to save Evendell by whatever means necessary—even if that spells his own death.

Little does Kane know, he’s not the only one fighting for revenge. Arwen is no longer afraid to fight—no sacrifice is too great, no enemy too daunting. Now, nothing will stop her from destroying Lazarus and his allies, because she knows if she fails, both realms will be doomed forever.

Review:

A Reign of Rose by Kate Golden is the 3rd and final book in her The Sacred Stones romantasy trilogy.  This picks up a few weeks after the end of A Promise of Peridot, with Arwen captured by Lazarus.  Arwen fears Lazarus, as he plans on making her have children as his blood heir; she has been unable to escape, with Lazarus making sure guards are constantly watching her.

Kane, thinking that Arwen is dead, is determined to find the Blade that will kill his father, Lazarus. He leaves behind his team, to find his father; and while sneaks in at the ball, he is shocked to see Arwen, dressed to the hilt, and alive. Kane rescues Arwen, and together they manage to escape and find their way home; to gather their soldiers, and hopefully negotiate with other alliances.

Kane and Arwen return to the Rose Kingdom, with Mari, Griffin, Briar and others that are surprised and happy to see that Arwen is alive. They will need all the help they can get to fight the war against Lazarus.  Arwen (the last full fae blooded born), is destined to kill Lazarus, accepting her fate in a prophecy meant to be her doom; but Kane plans on getting the Blade and ensuring that he is the one who will kill his father, and answer the prophecy of his death.

Arwen becomes so much stronger and a badass (she becomes a Phoenix), believing in herself, and her powers, as well as her confidence and outlook on her life.   Kane loves Arwen so much, that he will do anything to keep her safe. I really loved how much both Arwen and Kane love each other. Great couple. I really liked the found family vibes, with so many of the wonderful characters, such as Mari, Griffin, Dagan, Briar, Wyn, just to name a few.

What follows is an intense, non- stop action, dragons, war and spice.  Kane is determined to find the Blade that will kill his father and protect Arwen. The last 1/4 of the book was full of adventure, danger, intrigue, fast-paced, twists and turns, with an epic battle at the end.  I was unable to put the book down, as it kept my attention throughout. It was also emotional, as well as steamy; with Kane and Arwen being together.

This was a wonderful romantasy, with the war, exciting, non-stop action filled; and romantic side with the emotional love and spice. The climax and epilogue were great, especially with Kane and Arwen together. A Reign of Rose was so very well written by Kate Golden. I hope that Kate Golden will give us more into this unique world; perhaps Mari/Griffin, Hart Renwick or Aleksander.  Let’s hope, as I do want more.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 2, 2024

My whole life has been a lie.

I was sheltered and raised in a Catholic household. I was taught to dress a certain way.
Behave a certain way. Never having any free will of my own. But all my Catholic beliefs went out the window when I met him. I was only sixteen at the time.

Deimos…his name sounded so good coming out of my mouth. Rumors were spread that Deimos was just a myth that parents told their daughters to scare them into being obedient or else they would meet Deimos, the GOD of Terror and Dread. I was determined to prove his existence, but I never imagined that the truth would be even more dangerous than lies.

As I dove deeper into the mystery, things got more complicated when I met Alexander, the handsome tattoo artist. My feelings for him became more apparent. I never imagined I could love two people simultaneously. Could I trust my heart? Or would it lead me down a path of destruction? As the stakes increased and the dangers intensified, I had to make a choice: continue my search and risk everything to be with Deimos or lose my chance with Alexander.

•••••

REVIEW: THE TATTOO ARTIST is the first instalment in Kassandra Marie Lopez’ contemporary, adult LA PETITE MORT dark, erotic, Mafia, romance series. This is twenty-four year old, tattoo artist Alexander Hades, Deimos and eighteen year old, artist and student Quinn Connor’s story line.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from three first person perspectives (Alexander, Deimos, Quinn) using present day and memories from the past, THE TATTOO ARTIST follows the building relationship between Alexander and Quinn. Approximately two years earlier, sixteen year old, Catholic school girl, Quinn Connor witnessed the beat down and murder of man outside of her bedroom window. Believing the perpetrator Is the killer known as Deimos, our heroine begins to fantasize about the ‘God of Terror’, a man she would not see for close to another two years. Bored and struggling with a direction in life, Quinn would accompany her best friend Sophia to a tattoo appointment where she will come face to face with her future in the guise of Alexander Hades but all is not as it appears to be, as Alexander’s slow seduction of Quinn is offset by Quinn’s fantasies involving the myth, the killer, known as Deimos.

The world building is complex and multi-layered. Alexander Hades is an enigma; a tattoo artist, an MMA fighter, a killer and a member of the Greek Mafia controlled by the Hades family. Quinn Connor is a naïve, Catholic school girl; a part time librarian with aspirations to be an artist, a young woman whose entire life is predicated on a series of secrets and lies. Protected by Alexander, lusting after Deimos, Quinn finds herself spiralling as the truth is slowly revealed.

The relationship between Quinn and Alexander is a slow building romance as Alexander tenderly seduces the woman with whom he has fallen in love but Alexander has secrets, deep, dark and dangerous secrets that once revealed may destroy his relationship with our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are provocative and intense.

We are introduced to Alexander’s brother: Aristotle and Sebastian: Quinn’s best friend Sophia Sutton; library employee Isaac; as well as Quinn’s ultra religious parents; her friend Owen Walsh, and several members of the Russian, Irish and Greek Mafia. The requisite evil has many familiar faces. There is some history between Sophia and Aristotle.

THE TATTOO ARTIST is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, obsession and madness, forgiveness, acceptance and love. The premise is dark, dramatic, twisty and intriguing; the romance is passionate and intoxicating; the characters are broken, disturbing, desperate and determined.
