REVIEW: COLD KING OF NEW YORK is the first instalment in Siobhan Davis’ contemporary, adult THE ACCARDI TWINS DUET erotic Mafia romance, and follows the building romance and relationship between twenty-seven year old Don Joshua Accardi, and twenty-two year old Gia Bianchi. Gia Bianchi has been training for years as an undercover agent for the elite group known as the Commission, the overseers for founding Mafia famiglia members but in the wake of a large shipment of stolen drugs and property from the Accardi Shipping lines, Gia Bianchi is tasked with going undercover in an effort to ferret out the person responsible. Don Joshua Accardi is a cold hearted and stubborn Don who is about to face off against the woman with whom he will fall in love but never expected to find himself guardian and protector of our story line heroine. Believing a member of the Irish mob is responsible, Gia is sent in to attract and seduce but not everything goes according to plan. The world building follows the search for a betrayer, and a mole within the ranks of the ruling Mafia Famiglias; Gia’s seduction of a man know to be cruel and dominant; and the building relationship between Gia and Joshua.

The relationship between Gia and Joshua begins acrimoniously. Joshua doesn’t do relationships, having been betrayed in the past, and as such refuses to accept the existence of Gia beyond her current assignment but as Gia’s journey toward the darkside becomes more dangerous and dark, Joshua finds himself falling for a woman who is about to control his heart. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and energetic secondary and supporting characters including the three original couples first introduced in the Mazzone Mafia series. We are introduced to Gia’s best friend Elisa Salerno, as well as Joshua’s ex, and Caleb’s current affair Anais. Caleb and Elisa’s story line is next.

This is twenty-seven year old, Don Caleb Accardi and Elisa Salerno’s story line. CRUEL KING OF NEW YORK can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Caleb and Elisa) CRUEL KING OF NEW YORK follows the building but acrimonious relationship between childhood friends Don Caleb Accardi and Elisa Salerno. Elisa Salerno is a college student who has been in love with her best friend Caleb Accardi all of her life but Caleb’s continuous manwhoring has gone too far, and Elisa is ready to move on with her life. The relationship between Elisa and Caleb is a best friends to enemies to lovers in the face of personal betrayal and issues of trust. Caleb’s manwhoring has destroyed our story line heroine, and in this, Elisa is forced to walk away from the man whom she loves. The $ex scenes are seductive and impassioned.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and energetic secondary and supporting characters including the three original couples first introduced in the Mazzone Mafia series. We are re-introduced to Elisa’s best friend Gia Bianchi and Caleb’s twin brother Don Joshua Accardi, as well as Caleb’s ex Anais.

CRUEL KING OF NEW YORK is another story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is heart breaking and dramatic; the romance is fated ; the characters are broken, sassy and flawed.

This book club is whooshed right into the pages of a cozy mystery. The quirky group of brave members must solve the mystery and reach The End to get out of the book.

In each book of the series, they travel to a different world and meet paranormal characters. It could be shifters, fairies, genies, ghosts, or anything else! It’s so much fun, you’ll wish for a book club like this!

In this book journey, they travel to an enchanted amusement theme park. It’s a magical, wonderful place, but something is disturbing the park. Robberies are occurring from every ride. It began with little things, like props or costumes, but now the stakes are rising.

The book club has entered this story so that they can find out who is behind the thefts and stop the problem. Hopefully, they can do it before chaos strikes the entire theme park and closes it down, leaving hundreds of workers jobless and thousands of park visitors disappointed.

 

 

Review:

Carousels and Characters by Elizabeth Pantley is the 9th book in her wonderful Magical Mystery Book Club series. Refresher: The magical library consists of 8 members, who choose a book, and they are transported into the story, with cozy mysteries that they have to solve. This is a fun, enjoyable, lighthearted series, with wonderful characters and a magical cozy mystery.

Paige chooses a book to travel to an enchanted amusement theme park, where the club is swept into the magical park. The workers in the park need help to figure out why there are robberies, and missing people.  Posing as park inspectors, they enter each of the attractions, to ask questions with the staff. The group tries to learn why, as each area is having issues; when one person disappears from one location, and turns up in another.  The group split up often, as they are determined to find the culprit.

While they have fun in the wonderful park, enjoying rides and all the food; but the group constantly gets thrown off, with a few red herrings and suspects. In a short time, they will begin to suspect the culprit, and the park leaders also help.

The group is always fun, as all of them are fantastic characters. I loved that Paige is now the leader, with Glo and Gee Gee staying in the previous book.  I also love Frank, who is always wonderful.  The rest of the team are all great characters, always finding clues along the way.

What follows is a another terrific, enchanting and fun addition to this series, that has all the members trying to find clues, as well as suspects. I really enjoy this series, as it is so very entertaining.  All the characters in the Magical Mystery Book Club are very good, with Paige leading the way. There were a few surprises along the way, which changes a few things at the end. Carousels and Characters was a wonderful lighthearted fun magical mystery, which was very well written by Elizabeth Pantley.  I look forward to the next book.

REVIEW: SEEING YOU is the fourth instalment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult SWEETBRIAR RIDGE: THE DONOVANS romance series-a spin off from the author’s THE DONOVANS series. This is financial advisor Marcus Calloway, and bakery owner Billie Donovan’s story line. SEEING YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Billie and Marcus) SEEING YOU follows the rekindling but contemptuous relationship between financial advisor Marcus Calloway, and bakery owner Billie Donovan. Billie and Marcus were teenaged sweethearts, both successful financial advisors in DC, but ten years earlier, Billie walked away from a future with Marcus, returning home to Sweetbriar Ridge, in the hopes of finding some peace and happiness with her life. Fast forward to present day, Marcus returns to Sweetbriar Ridge in the face of his father’s age and illness, coming up close and personal with the woman he once loved, only to receive a face full of muffin from an angry Billie Donovan when he suggests working as a baker was beneath her education and status. Desperate to convince our heroine she should leave town and return with him, Marcus finds himself the villain in a town where all of the support goes to the woman he once loved.

The world building focuses on the back and forth between our story line couple. Billie wants to stay in Sweetbriar Ridge where she is happy and has established her own business but Billie wants her own happily ever after and she doesn’t see it with Marcus, in the his stakes world of finance. Marcus is a snob; likes expensive things and often looks down on those he consider beneath his worth, and in this, most of the people in Sweetbriar Ridge, consider Marcus a non-entity, and would prefer he left for good.

The relationship between Marcus and Billie is one of second chances; a rekindling romance that continues to struggle with dual futures, dual aims, dual beliefs, and constant misunderstanding and misdirection. Marcus wants Billie to move back to DC but Billie has found peace in small town living. There are no $ex scenes, everything is implied.

The secondary and supporting characters include several of the previous story line couples and characters including; Billie’s siblings Levi and his wife Jade, Ashlyn, and Chloe; who all have our heroine’s best interests at heart, and their parents Marie, and estranged father Ronan;and Marcus’ brother Max, and their father John.

SEEING YOU is a story of struggle, assumptions and acceptance, forgiveness and love. The premise is inviting an emotional; the romance struggles in the face of different views and expectations; the characters are dynamic and determined.

REVIEW: KILO’S EDGE is the first instalment in the contemporary, adult SAINT’S OUTLAWS MC: PHOENIX Chapter in the Viking’s MC spin off co-authored by Cathleen Cole & Frank Jensen, a part of the multi-authored Saint’s Outlaws MC series. This is former US soldier, SAA and gun store owner Kilo aka Chris, and twenty-four year old, Camila aka Mercy’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Kilo and Camila) KILO’S EDGE follows the building romance and relationship between Kilo aka Chris, and twenty-four year old, Camila aka Mercy. Having moved in next door, Camila had eyed her neighbor with a little more lust than she had anticipated but her missing key, a visit from next door and an impromptu snack quickly finds Camilia more than friends with the man with whom she will fall in love. Enter MC member Kilo. Camila has a secret, one that is dangerous and dark, a secret that will require the help of the Saint’s Outlaws MC and the Viking’s MC to end the threats against our story line heroine.

The world building is detailed, and introduces the members of the Saint’s Outlaws MC Phoenix, and their connection to the Vikings MC. There is plenty of camaraderie between the member and the MC,including the back and forth chirping, friendships and coordinated responsibilities.

The relationship between Kilo and Camila is one of immediate attraction but Camilia is naïve to the world of the MC, and in this, she is learning on the go, in the hopes of fitting in as she falls in love. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. Overdrive’s story is next.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, charismatic and energetic secondary and supporting characters including several members from the author’s Vikings MC. VP Overdrive, Code, Ruck, Drifter, Bolo, treasurer Flir; Camila’s sister Carmen and their mother Lucia. The requisite evil has many faces.

KILO’S EDGE is a story of betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, family and relationships, friendships and love. The character driven premise is detailed and intriguing; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are dynamic and determined.
