REVIEW: ONE NIGHT WITH A BILLIONAIRE is the first novella in Vickie Lewis Thompson’s The Perfect Man series. Focusing on three friends from Texas, the first storyline finds Melanie Shaw, alone in the romantic city of Paris, France when her friends are unable to make the long awaited European vacation. Things go from bad to worse when Melanie finds herself the victim of a mugging and all of her money is now in the hands of a Parisian thief. Enter Drew –a fellow Texan; a billionaire; and Melanie’s savior. Within a matter of a few minutes, Drew has come to Melanie’s rescue, offers his home and car and planned out her Paris itinerary down to the last minute. Along the way, the couple will soon realize, that they have more in common than Paris and a Texas twang-they are perfect for each other in every way-almost too perfect. Drew likes to rescue people and things and Melanie is ripe for the rescuing.
The story is a novella, therefore everything happens rather quickly-from a rescue by Drew to the final kiss-five days will pass and an entire lifetime of promises is vowed and a happily ever after. There is no angst; no mystery; no suspense and no conflict. There was nothing to propel the storyline forward. The writing is simple; the plotline is very predictable but it is the one-on-one conversations between Drew and Melanie that are difficult to accept-almost adolescent in context. I thought I was reading a story written by a teenage girl. The quality or perhaps the style of the writing was less than stellar.
I am not sure how to describe my feelings about this particular book, but for all intents and purposes, I was disappointed. And as for the title, there was more than ONE night with a billionaire. In fact there were five nights with this particular billionaire, which made me curious as to the selection of the title. The sex scenes were romantic but again, the talk between the couple would have been best left off the pages. I was rather uncomfortable with their sex talk-it felt off; stilted; juvenile.
Sadly, One Night With a Billionaire did not live up to my expectations, although I am not sure what I was expecting. But I know, this was not it.

Ah man .. nothing sucks worse than a billionaire story that doesn’t pan out! Do you think perhaps it has something to do with the fact that it is a novella?? Some of my fave authors write incredible novels, but come up so short when they attempt the novella! So much to engulf in such a short amount of words!
I love your honesty Sandy! 🙂
Rachel 🙂
Hi Rachel. I am not sure what happened with this one.
Yes, I have no doubt the author tried to move the relationship along because it was a novella but many authors have the ability to write novellas and not leave me feeling like something is off.
And the sex scenes just didn’t do it for me. They almost seemed forced; the sex talk was very immature and not hot and sexy.
There were several things about this storyline that bothered me, so I think it is an overall feeling about the story that left me unhappy.
Screw up a hot sexy scene and I am out! LOL That’s too bad .. sounds like the premise has potential! Novellas are funny that way .. unfortunantly, I have read more stinkers than not! When I come across a good one it makes me very happy! 😉
Nice and honest review. I read the full book of this series, and I liked it. I think I know where you are coming from, there was a small part at some point that the comments felt a bit off. But Rachel could be right, my full book was good, and your novella didn’t meet your expectations. Sorry.
I think there was a combination of different factors involved in my not raving about this particular storyline. Everything was rushed because it was a novella but on the other hand many authors have the ability to write novellas and not leave me feeling the same. And again, something was off with the relationship-I just didn’t feel and a story, hence the author, should make me believe in the relationship.
Interesting review Sandy . It’s hard to read a book and it just doesn’t feel right . And there is nothing worse then forced sexy it just doesn’t do it for me at least.
I am not really sure what I felt but I know their conversations during sex didn’t seem real; felt disjointed and almost adolescent. It felt like the sex scenes were written by someone else….
i might like this one, since i love all kinds of romances. thanks for the honest review, sandy.
Thanks Mari. It did have potential.
Nice review Sandy. We can’t love’em all.
Thanks Alicia….and I can’t agree more.
Awww, bummer! I do appreciate the honesty. Finding love in Paris sounds awesome; too bad it wasn’t stirring enough.
Thanks Carmen. It had plenty of potential but something felt off
An honest review, but I do like romance novellas. Short and sweet.
Thanks Bran and yes…a very quick read.
