Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo
Description:
All’s fair in love and war…
Abby Snyder finally has the opportunity to expand her diner now that the building next door is available. Unfortunately, she must compete with Nick Coleman to get it. Abby—usually über-responsible—shared one night of intense passion with the playboy, and she’s been trying to forget it ever since. But then Nick bets her the building that he can make her fall in love with him in thirty days.
With his reputation ruining his chances at gaining some big clients, Nick needs a way to prove to everyone that he’s reformed. Dating Abby, the most respected girl in town—and the only one he wants—is the perfect solution. Nick’s confident he’ll get Abby to fall for him, so he’ll win the building and the girl he can’t get out of his mind.
But even though Abby can’t lose, resisting Nick is harder than she thought.
Review:
Resisting Her Rival by Sonya Weiss is a short story filled with lots of great one liners 🙂
Yes we can probably guess how it ends. Yes it’s predictable, but the story is very well written. There are so many funny parts.
Both Nick and Abby try to outdo each other in their attempts to try persuade their landlord to sell each person the building, Abby wants it to expand her restaurant, Nick wants to expand his business, and the building would be ideal. Then he hits on the idea of a bet, if he can make Abby fall in love with him in 30 days, then they date properly, and continue where they left off (a one night stand a few months ago)and he gets the building, but if Abby wins, she gets the building and he’ll renovate for free.
So the story revolves around each of them trying to get one over on each other. And along the way, Nick falls in love with Abby. Abby on the other hand, takes longer, she has been hurt by an ex-husband, and lost her parents, she is scared to fall in love.
The way they flirt was fun, and sad moments will make you grab tissues. Secondary characters were very involved. I think there could be another story. This is a short review, as I didn’t want to give too much away.
