Catching Up with Alyssa Day

Catching Up with Alyssa Day

The Reading Cafe is happy to have Alyssa Day with us today. Alyssa has taken time from her busy schedule to visit us and give us an update on what is happening with her, as we all are patiently awaiting her next Warriors of Poseidon novel, and what a wait it is…finally…finally Alaric and Quinn will be here in December with Heart of Atlantis. Let us talk to Alyssa now.

TRC: Hi Alyssa. Thank you for taking the time to visit us at The Reading Cafe, and to give us an update as to what you have in store for us in 2012.

Alyssa: Thank you for inviting me!! I’m delighted to be here.

TRC: Before we ask about your books, we know you just got back from living in Japan, but aside from all your unpacking, how does it feel to be back in America?

Alyssa: It’s really wonderful! Japan is a beautiful country, but we were there for the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear meltdown, and then subsequently evacuated from the country for a month, so it was a fairly stressful time. Not to mention two international moves in just over a year. We admire the strength and resilience of the Japanese people very much, but we’re really glad to be home.

TRC: Heart of Atlantis is scheduled to be released on December 4th and is one of the most anticipated books upcoming, as Alaric and Quinn have become such fan favorites. When you started this series, did you anticipate their popularity when you created their characters?

Alyssa: I knew from the reaction to the first book that something about Alaric and Quinn really touched a nerve with readers, and to be honest, it worried me a bit, because I knew before I began writing the series that Alaric’s book would be the 7th in a 7-book arc. (Which turned out to be the 10th, because two novellas and Daniel the Vampire’s book also intervened.) I didn’t want readers to hate me for drawing it out!!

TRC: Your next release is Alejandro’s Sorceress, which is an e-book special. Can you please tell us a little about the book?

Alyssa: Alejandro and Maria were characters in Justice’s book, ATLANTIS UNLEASHED. Alejandro stole every scene he was in, and I couldn’t leave his continuing story untold. It was very fun to write, but the mechanics of writing and publishing a book in a new venture (indie e-books) at the same time as moving home from Japan has been pretty stressful. I appreciate my readers’ patience, and I learned my lesson: I’ll never again announce an e-book release date before it’s actually happening! LOL. Here’s an EXCERPT.

TRC: You mention on your website that you plan on books for Denal and Jack. Do you plan on each of them having their own book? Will they be novellas or full books?

Alyssa: Denal will probably get a novella like Alejandro, but I’m not sure yet. I haven’t found his heroine. Jack, on the other hand, is going to get his VERY OWN SERIES!!! Yes, you’re one of the very first to hear this, but I’m going to build an urban fantasy series around Jack and his continuing adventures! The first book will be out sometime in 2013.

TRC: How far do you plan on going with Warriors of the Poseidon? Will you continue this series after Atlantis rises?

Alyssa: I never say never, but right now I am taking some time to write other things, like Jack’s series I mentioned above, and The League of the Black Swan, a new series coming in 2013 from Berkley. The League is a sort of paranormal secret police, who take on cases when supernatural trouble occurs. The first book centers around Luke, who is sometimes called the Dark Wizard of Bordertown, and who is the illegitimate son of Lucrezia Borgia! I also have a novella, Curse of the Black Swan, which will be in an anthology with Lora Leigh and two other authors (to be announced) sometime next year.

TRC: Who is your favorite male character in your books and why?

Alyssa: I love them all, and usually the hero and heroine of the book I’m working on at the time are my favorites, but I’ll admit Jack and Ven hold special places in my heart because of their great senses of humor.

TRC: Who is your favorite female character in your books and why?

Alyssa: I could never choose only one. It’s like saying “which of your kids do you like best?”  LOL.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Alyssa: Just thanks for having me, and thanks to all the wonderful readers out there who allow authors to have the jobs of our dreams. You rock!!

TRC: Thank you, Alyssa for giving us an update on what we can look forward to this year. We also are happy that you will be coming back to the Reading Café in December, so that we share the excitement of Heart of Atlantis. Can’t wait for Alaric and Quinn.

  1. Hi Alyssa and welcome to The Reading Cafe.

Another wonderful interview catching up with the author. So glad to see Jack will have his own series…looking forward to another series…….*hmmmm, perhaps I need a second job to pay for all of the books*

  2. Great interview, lots of information… which is going to make my day… can’t get enough of Alyssa Day’s books. Now I understand why I can’t find Alejandro’s Sorceress anywhere. As for the wait for Aleric’s book… the anticipation might be killing us… but it will be soooooo worth it. Again Sandy, you are spoiling us, we only expect the best from you already, and you always deliver. Just like Ms. Day.

  3. Thanks for stopping by Alyssa!! You provided us with some great updates! I am SO glad that Jack will be getting his own series! He has always been a favortie of mine!! Just hearing about the new books coming out reminds me of some favorite characters,………… I need a reread !!!!

  4. Hey earlybirds, I apologize…there is an excerpt on Alejandro’s Sorceress that the link was not working. I just fixed this. so feel free to click on the link and read the excerpt.

  5. Alyssa, what can we say. It is always such a pleasure to have you here to catch up on what’s happening with you. Telling us about Jack is so exciting. You have a lot of Warriors of Poseidon fans, who are panting for Alaric & Quinn. But we will all be there for your series on Jack.

Gang, Alyssa will be back in December, as we will all help promote Heart of Atlantis, and I for one can’t wait.

  6. It feels like a “coming home” visit from Ms. Day!! TRC has supported her work from way back and to have her return for promotion of the most anticipated….just awesome! I cannot wait to get my hands on it, for sure!!!

Jack is a great character and I look forward to reading all about his journey.

Ven is one of her faves….just like me! His sense of humor drew me in right away.

Thanks for the updates and the interview!

  7. Great interview!! This series is on my TBR……………. Everyone who has read it has said it was awesome!! Can’t wait to read it!! Hmmm…………. I think I need to quit work and win the lottery!! 😉

  8. Hi Alyssa. Loved this interview, and I have wanted to read Warriors of Poseidon series since I read the reviews here. I plan to buy the series soon

  9. Love the interview. I love this series – Can’t wait to read how Alaric finally gets his – he always has seemed kinda snarky to me when the other warriors have found their mates 🙂 Great giveaway too.

  10. Very excited to hear all this. And Jack getting his own series! I love that! Like most everyone I’m really looking forward to Alaric and Quinn’s book. I’m very curious to see how he gets around the “rules”. =)

Welcome home and a big THANK YOU to you and your family for serving our country!

  11. Alyssa thansk for coming. I’ve marked my calendar for Alaric’s and Quinn’s story. Happy to hear that Jack will get his own series. Seems only fair since he can’t have Quinn. Looking forward to reading your new series League Of The Black Swan.

    Barb, as always a plesure.

  12. Hafa adai Alyssa!
I hope you don’t mind the quick first name basis, but I’ve heard so much about you from my wonderful online friends that I felt it right to call you by first name rather than “Ms Day” lol
First, I am shy admit that I haven’t yet started on your Warriors of Poseidon, BUT I do have 9 of the series (or maybe 7 if I don’t include the ‘.5s’) already lined up in my Kindle…I’ll be glad once I am up to date and get to participate on your next visit in December…*Assuming that the ‘Final Prophecy’ by J Andersen doesn’t fry my nerves before then ;)*
Lastly, I’m very excited to have authors do interviews like these. I believe it makes them closer in touch with their readers. So thank you Alyssa for taking the time for this interview. Very much appreciated.

@Barb, Fantastic interview!! I was eagerly looking forward for that ‘Lightning Round’ but without it, this is still a job well done.

Happy Mother’s Day to you moms.

  13. Loved the except and can’t wait for the e-book, thank you Alyssa. It still doesn’t have a release date? I have all your Warrior books and will love to try the new series. Good interview Barb
