Victor Ross II-Interview with the model

Last year, I was looking for pictures that would represent Father’s Day and I found a picture of a man, walking on the beach,  holding a young child’s hand.  That picture led me to Victor Ross II.

 

Today is Father’s Day and as a special treat, The Reading Cafe would like to welcome Victor Ross II-Model, Artist, Poet and Father.

TRC: Hi Victor, and welcome to The Reading Café. Would you please tell us about your childhood growing up in Missouri?

Victor: It was rural town living. Just playing sports and goofing off with my brothers. I had a great child hood, parents spoiled us, especially with love.

TRC: Where your parents (family) supportive with the choices you made?

Victor: 110 billion percent.

TRC: How involved in sports and recreation were you as a child?

Victor: I was constantly involved, I was either playing basketball, baseball, soccer, running track, or playing football football. Outside of these I was camping and hiking in my grandpa’s woods.

TRC: Before you were scouted as a model, what had you planned to do with your life?

Victor: I wanted to play ball or thought I would run in the olympics one day, but also I always knew I was an artist. I always wanted to be a writer and paint. I always always had the idea to be in advertising.

TRC: You are a very creative individual in the visual arts including photography, as well as writing poetry. Do you currently have any art pieces on display in a gallery?

Victor: I have a painting that is displayed inside my modeling agency at LA Models. I have my painting up on www.vr2.biz and I am working on participating in a show soon.

TRC: Which medium do you prefer and why?

Victor: I don’t really have a specific medium. I go through phases where I would rather pick up the camera, then I’ll have weeks where I just paint, and then I’ll phase into writing poetry.

TRC: Have you ever published your poetry? Would you consider publishing a book of your own poetry, along with your art e.g. connecting the poetry with the photographs/artwork or as a stand-alone book?

Victor: I do, I have self published a collection of poems called A Voice In The Dark Looking For Home, Oiseau, Once just dreams poems, and also When we were the ocean. You can find them online at Victor Ross II Bookstore

TRC: Explain the significance of: ‘you cannot stop my thoughts with a dot, Period.’

Victor: It means that not everything is on the surface. Just because something is said, it doesn’t mean that it has to end right there and be still. That makes it just words. It can resinate, the real stuff is in the feelings behind our words, our emotions. Just because grammar says we have to place a period at the end of a thought or sentence doesn’t mean we stop thinking the thought and it’s over. I could say I love you. I’m still going to feel this emotion so the moment continues and is allowed to carry on. So hence I say you cannot stop my thoughts.

TRC: At one time you considered opening your own studio. Do you still have plans for your own studio, and if so, when do you see your dream coming to fruition?

Victor: I do still plan on opening a studio and creative space one day. I have no set date on this one yet. One sweet day.

TRC: You name several ‘musings’ including Theodor Suess Geisel and Shel Silverstein (personally I like the Runny Babbit series). Do you read to your son whenever you have the chance?

Victor: I sure do. We read all the time. One of his favorites is “Falling Up”

TRC: Have you ever considered writing a series of poetry for children?

Victor: I haven’t really thought about that. I have been in the works of writing a book of River’s quotes he has has said over the years and also a book with a story River helps me illustrate.

TRC: What is your favorite piece of poetry/prose?

Victor: At the moment it is A Tear And A Smile by Khalil Gibran

TRC: Would you like to share any poetry/prose with us today?

Victor: “Life is all about finding people to blame, for your smile.”

TRC: Your son has been photographed and can be seen in several of your photos. Has your son ever modeled professionally with you or as an individual?

Victor: He has done some work as a baby and we were actually just asked to maybe do a father son shoot for Hallmark.

TRC: You know that will illicit the ahhhhhs!!!

TRC: What is your opinion, with regards to young children in the modeling industry?

Victor: As long as parents aren’t forcing their kids to not be shy. I say sure as long as they are comfortable with it. I have left plenty of castings because my son would have rather went and played. Just don’t force it. Now that he is in school I limit the projects.

TRC: Please tell us about how you were discovered and entered the modeling industry.

Victor: I heard about a model search going on in the city when I was 15 and was scouted there.

TRC: What and where was your first gig as a model?

Victor: It would have been in a runway show in Overland Park Kansas at the mall.

TRC: What would you consider the best and the worst aspects of the modeling industry?

Victor: Best: Free Time, Worst: Not Working

TRC: Nude photography is a controversial topic for many models in the industry. What is your opinion about nude photography?

Victor: It’s your choice. Either you want to or not and you can let your agency know that you don’t want to be optioned for those jobs.

TRC: What would you say or recommend to young models entering the modeling industry about nude photography?

Victor: I say you have a young beautiful body once, why not have it photographed. If your comfortable with it, sure do it. If your not, don’t. Just make sure it’s a professional setting and make it beautiful and art.

TRC: Would you please tell us about your favorite shoot?

Victor: They all have there moments. I have fun with little editorial shoots as well as big campaigns.

TRC: You have worked and modeled for video shoots, ad campaigns including Motorola, and print medium. Which do you prefer and why?

Victor: I like video shoots and commercials and making video’s with buddies. It’s just more fun to be able to have movement and be more expressive.

TRC: What are you currently doing?

Victor: I am currently working on an one act play, but I think it is leading me into a book. Also at the moment working on two poems and greeting cards for a company I just signed with.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?
