Description:
As Prime magic users, Catalina Baylor and her sisters have extraordinary powers—powers their ruthless grandmother would love to control. Catalina can earn her family some protection working as deputy to the Warden of Texas, overseeing breaches of magic law in the state, but that has risks as well. When House Baylor is under attack and monsters haunt her every step, Catalina is forced to rely on handsome, dangerous Alessandro Sagredo, the Prime who crushed her heart.
The nightmare that Alessandro has fought since childhood has come roaring back to life, but now Catalina is under threat. Not even his lifelong quest for revenge will stop him from keeping her safe, even if every battle could be his last. Because Catalina won’t rest until she stops the use of the illicit, power-granting serum that’s tearing their world apart.
Review:
Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews is the 5th book in her fantastic Hidden Legacy series. I couldn’t wait to read this book, as I love this series, but then again, I love everything written by our illustrious duo, Ilona and Gordon Andrews. Upon completing this book, all I can say is WOW! To no surprise, I loved Emerald Blaze. The Baylor/Rogan family are totally awesome. Brief Refresher: The Hidden Legacy series is fantasy romance, with families that have magical powers and control society, with each family having their own Prime members (high magical ability). The entire Baylor family returns, and they are all such wonderful characters; besides Catalina, there is Arabella, Mom, Grandmother, Leon, Berg, just to name a few; and we get more time with Nevada and Connor.
Catalina is our heroine in this arc and I loved her and Alessandro, our hero. It was great to see them finally get together, as he was back and promised to be her protector in a wild, exciting, captivating, nonstop action filled thriller that kept me on the edge my from start to finish. As much as I loved Nevada and Rogan, together, by the time you reach the end of this book, you know you are loving Catalina and Alessandra equally as much. Bravo for Ilona Andrews for constantly reeling us into their amazing stories.
Catalina is a wonderful heroine, who is so loving and loyal to her family. With Nevada under House Rogan, Catalina is the head of House Baylor, and in this book, she shows how smart, savvy, strong and immensely powerful she is.
What follows is an exciting, nonstop action with Alessandro and Catalina, working together to find a murderer who killed the son of a powerful prime. When Catalina brings the Prime leaders together, she begins to suspect who the killer is. But while that is going on, all hell is breaking loose with a major entity causing destruction and deaths. Together Catalina, Alessandro, Prime House leaders and the Baylor team try to stop the entity from becoming even more powerful, as it will destroy everything and everyone. To tell too much more would be spoilers, especially if you have not read Nevada’s trilogy and the previous book of this arc. The overall plot is complex, and best if you have not read the earlier books.
Emerald Blaze is a fantastic mind-boggling story that had me holding my breath so often. Kudos once again to Ilona Andrews for always giving us sensational stories, fabulous couples and wonderfulk secondary characters. If you have not read Hidden Legacy, you need to start from the beginning. It is not to be missed.
