REVIEW: TAKING VENGEANCE is the sixth and final? Instalment in Kaylea Cross’s contemporary, adult VENGEANCE romantic suspense series focusing on a group of women once known as the Valkyrie-members of a secret CIA government project. TAKING VENGEANCE is an ensemble story line such that the Valkyrie’s and their spouses must work together to take down a human trafficking ring. The VENGEANCE series is a spin-off from the author’s HOSTAGE RESCUE TEAM series. TAKING VENGEANCE should not be read as a stand alone as the story line ties up a couple of open ended plot points.

SOME BACKGROUND: Years earlier, an unsanctioned, secret CIA run project ‘stole’, brainwashed and trained a number of orphan girls in an effort to design the perfect killing machine known as the Valkyrie. The project was disbanded but the Valkyrie have since found themselves targeted by someone high in the organization, someone who is willing to kill to protect the secrets they know. Deadly operatives trained to work alone, each a specialist in a different field, the Valkyrie struggle when they find themselves losing their heart and falling in love.

Told from several third person perspectives including Kiyomi and Marcus TAKING VENGEANCE follows in the wake of an encrypted message received by hacker Valkyrie Amber Brown (Covert Vengeance), and her search for the person responsible. Amber has discovered that someone is looking into the whereabouts of the remaining Valkyrie members, but more specifically, doubling down on Kiyomi Tanaka. With the message received, the Valkyrie’s set into motion a plan locate and dismantle a human trafficking ring linked to Kiyomi’s past, a past that is about to come full circle the new revelations about a possible connection to the Valkyrie project but all does not go according to plan, and the team must face the possiblity of losing one of their own.

TAKING VENGEANCE is a fast paced, energetic and edgy story line. The reader is up close and personal with the lives of everyone in the months and years following the reconnection of the Valkyrie killing team. The characters are spirited, dynamic and passionate.
